“Sugar” Ray Leonard defended the WBC Welterweight title with a 10th round stoppage over Larry Bonds in front of over 20,000 fans at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, New York

In round four, Leonard landed a blistering combination that put Bonds down near the ropes.

In round nine, Bonds began to bleed from the nose. In round 10, Leonard das dominant and dropped Bonds with a hard body shot along the ropes. Bonds was hurt, and Leonard opened up with a flurry and referee Arthur Mercante stopped the bout at 2:22.

Leonard, 145 1/2 lbs of Mitchellville, MD is now 29-1 with 20 knockouts. Bonds, 144 3/4 lbs of Denver.

Ayala Gets of The Deck and Stops Maldonado in Three

Tony Ayala climbed off the deck and stopped Mario Maldonado in round three of an eight-round junior middleweight bout.

In round one, Maldonado landed a left hook and right that put Ayala on the canvas. In round three, Ayala landed a flurry in the corner that put Ayala down. Ayala continued to punish Maldonado and dropped him again and the fight was stopped at 2:57

Ayala, 154 3/4 lbs of San Antonio is 9-0 with eight knockouts. Maldonado, 156 1/4 lbs of Vineland, NJ is 11-8-1.
