CHESTER, PA (JANUARY 3, 2011)—On Saturday night, January 22nd, Joey Eye Boxing will stage the first ever boxing event at the Beautiful Harrah’s Chester Casino and Racetrack.

In the main event, popular Lightweight, Victor “The Barber” Vasquez will fight an opponent to be named in a bout scheduled for six rounds.

Vasquez of Philadelphia has built up one of the biggest fan bases in Philadelphia due to his exciting style which always has him in the fight of the night whenever he steps into the ring.

Vasquez has a record of 12-4-1 with six knockouts and has been in some memorable fights in his young career.

He holds victories over undefeated Thomas McCuiston (1-0); Tyric Robinson (9-4-1) and his last bout was an exciting six round split decision over Bryne Green (5-3) on October 8th in Philadelphia.

In a four round Crusierweight co-feature, local knockout artist John Poore makes his first appearance in his new weight class when he takes on Zeferino Albino

Poore has a record of 21-4 with eighteen knockouts and is coming down to make a run at Crusierweight after his entire eleven year career as a Heavyweight.

Poore of Boothwyn, PA won his first sixteen bouts all via knockout which included a second round knockout over undefeated Jason Jenkins (5-0) before suffering his first loss to contender Robert Hawkins (18-3).

Poore will be looking to get back in the win column after suffering a third round knockout defeat to Jason Barnett (10-10) on November 20, 2009 in Philadelphia.

Albino of Philadelphia of a record 3-12-2 with one knockout.

A terrific undercard of local prospects will be on display on January 22nd.

In a four round Welterweight bout, Ardrick Butler (5-3, 2 KO’s) of Philadelphia will see action against an opponent to be named.

Former world Jr. Amateur champion Joey Dawejko (3-0, 1 KO) of Philadelphia will take on Jon Bolden (2-1, 2 KO’s) of New York in a four round Heavyweight bout

Dan Grafton (1-0) of Philadelphia will take on Antonio Robertson (0-2) of South Carolina in a four round Heavyweight bout.

Undefeated Welterweight Troy Corbin (5-0, 4 KO’s) takes on an opponent to be named in a four round bout

Popular Featherweight Joey Tiberi (2-0, 2 KO’s) will take on an opponent to be named in a four round bout.

Pro debuting Steffan Burgette of Scranton, PA will take on Joe Dunn (0-3) of Philadelphia in a Middleweight bout scheduled for four rounds.

David Curiel (1-0, 1 KO) of New Jersey will take on pro debuting Kevin Walker of Cleveland in a four round Jr. Middleweight bout

Roman S. Kunciw, 58, and his ex-wife, Charlotte Kunciw, 52, each were charged with one count of theft from an at-risk person.

A jury in February acquitted Charlotte Kunciw but deadlocked on the charge against Roman Kunciw.

Prosecutors planned to retry him, but dismissed the charge after alleged victim Luz Huerta, 88, decided she didn’t want to proceed, court documents said.

Elementary students raise funds for classmate Students at Steele Elementary School in Colorado Springs District 11 are holding several fund-raisers to help a classmate.

Third-grader Hannah Earls, 9, has acute lymphocytic leukemia, which has invaded her bones.

Hannah’s classmates and staff at the school saw the need to raise money to help her family pay for medical treatment.

The school has set up a fund for Hannah. Donations can be sent to Hannah Earls’ Fund, c/o Steele Elementary School, 1720 N. Weber St., Colorado Springs, CO 80907.

A bone marrow drive will be held to find a possible match for Hannah. The drive will be at the school from 3 to 8 p.m. May 31.

Kids run will be held at Memorial Park Feats of Fire Kids Safety Run is scheduled May 19 at Memorial Park. Registration begins at noon at the Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial.

The event is free for children 12 and younger. All participants will receive a commemorative T-shirt and finisher’s medal. First aid and water stations will be available.

There are four different course options: 200 feet for ages 1-3; one-fourth mile for ages 4-5; one-half mile for ages 6-8; and 1 mile for ages 9-12.

Registration will be taken at Boulder Running Company, 3659 Austin Bluffs Parkway; Colorado Running Company, 833 N. Tejon St.; and Runners Roost, 107 E. Bijou St.

The event is coordinated and sponsored by Boulder Running Co., Colorado Running Co., Colorado Springs Fire Department, IAFF, FPA, Pikes Peak Road Runners and Runners Roost.
