Atlantic City, NJ—Heavyweight Theron Johnson, of Chicago, IL, steps in against unbeaten Bryant Bye Bye Jennings, of Philadelphia, PA, in a scheduled six-round contest Saturday evening, Feb. 26, in the Grand Ballroom at Bally’s Atlantic City.
Topping the seven-fight card is an all-Philadelphia 12-round contest for the NABA interim junior middleweight title between King Gabriel Rosado and Jamaal Da Truth Davis. First fight begins at 7.30pm.
The show will be televised live by www.gofightlive.tv.
Johnson replaces Terrell Baby Bull Nelson, of Plainfield, NJ, who suffered a pinched nerve in his neck last week while sparring.
The 31-year-old Johnson is coming off a pair of wins over local heroes—a first-round knockout over Jed Phipps last Sept. 17 in Baltimore and a six-round decision over Billy Mofford three weeks ago at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT.
A pro less than three years, Johnson is 5-3, 1 K0, but has never boxed anyone with a losing record. At 6-foot-4, he will have a two-inch height advantage over Jennings.
Jennings, 26, is 5-0, 3 K0s, as a pro. He had a brief amateur career (17 fights), but went to the PAL and National Golden Gloves finals, losing each time by decision to veteran lefty Lenroy Thompson.
Tickets for the Feb. 26 card are priced at $50 and $75. They are on sale at the offices of Peltz Boxing Promotions (215-765-0922) and all Ticketmaster outlets (800-745-3000). They also can be purchased online at www.peltzboxing.com and www.Ticketmaster.com.
