CARTERET, NEW JERSEY (FEBRURAY 15, 2012)—This Friday night at Nutley High School in Nutley, New Jersey, Heavyweight John Lennox will make his second start of 2012 when he takes on Miles Kelly as part of nine bout card promoted by Gabe LaConte’s First Round Promotions.
Lennox, 9-1, 4 KO’s of Carteret, New Jersey is coming off a grueling four round unanimous decision over Riley Brooks on January 13th in Philadelphia.
Lennox and Brooks waged a toe to toe war that thrilled the crowd but was not one of Lennox’ best performaces.
“He didn’t have a full training camp”, said Lennox manager Rich Masini.
“John was flat footed and he fought Brooks fight”
With a full camp under the tutelage of Ray McCline, Mike Hall and Charles Thomas, Masini expects a better performance on Friday night.
“John is firing on all cylinders and we expect this to be his best performance to date”
Although Kelly’s record on reads 2-6, Team Lennox was looking for a fighter with a better record but they also are taking Kelly’s bid for an upset very seriously.
“We couldn’t make the fight we wanted to make but John isn’t taking anybody lightly. Despite Kelly’s record we know he has confidence as he is the one who stepped up for the challenge”
Lennox is already looking for a big 2012 as he begins to step up in class.
“This will be John’s first six round fight and we have an eight rounder penciled in for April in the Netherlands then we should be fighting ten rounders later in the year”
Masini has a lot of faith in his fighter and believes that he will be a player in the Heavyweight division before very long. He also believes that his only loss, that being a controversial first round stoppage at the hands of highly regarded Joey Dawejko in September.
“John hasn’t got a fair shake from the boxing public. He hasn’t been given the respect because of one controversial round and the fact he is one of the most active Heavyweights and he picked himself up from that adversity and continues to win should say something about what he has inside of him”
“He trains like he is fighting for the Heavyweight championship. We have goals of being the top Heavyweight in the world”
“Mark my words, John Lennox will surprise a lot of people down the road and these people will be eating their words”
