Las Vegas – July 15, 2013 The MMA boom is underway as Rocktagon Worldwide brings its national tour to the Lone Star State on July 26 with Rocktagon 28 “Journey of Champions –El Paso.”
Fans craving consistent, high-quality MMA events featuring professional fighters from all over the globe should be intrigued by Rocktagon’s Texas debut.
Rocktagon 28 could soon be looked back on as the event that helped reignite the MMA scene in the El Paso area.
A featured bout between submission aces Billy “The Puerto Rican Assassin” Colon and Martin Sano Jr. will serve as the headliner for this blockbuster fight card. The clichéd mantra, “don’t blink,” is certainly relevant considering both fighters have a 100-percent finish rate.
Colon, who has competed all over the United States, hopes a significant edge in experience leads him to the Promised Land against Sano, a highly-touted prospect with an unblemished record.
At only 22-years-old, Sano exudes the kind of confidence one expects in a future champion, but it’ll be interesting to see how he performs on the big stage in front of a savvy veteran like Colon. This will also be his first venture from welterweight to middleweight. With a lighter weight cut, all signs are pointing to fans seeing the best Sano yet.
In the co-main event, fireworks can be expected on the feet when heavy-handed slugger Patrick “Skar” Dixon meets Fort Bliss Combatives team member Anthony Stevens.
While some fighters rely on point scoring, Dixon tends to take the road less traveled, which typically consists of throwing haymakers and leaving opponents curled up in the fetal position.
Stevens, on the other hand, is more of a tactician. He always pushes forward, but his smooth boxing style tends to negate wild, standup exchanges.
Dixon isn’t the type of fighter to linger around outside the pocket. The deciding factor in this bout will be Stevens’ ability to maintain separation and overcome Dixon’s berserker-like fighting style. These two contrasting styles should certainly make for an entertaining fight.
From top to bottom, Rocktagon 28 will be jam-packed with great professional bouts. The full fight card, which is subject to change, is listed below:
