(San Diego, CA) – With the fall upon us, San Diego’s premier live professional boxing promoter Bobby D Presents will make the jump to a new venue when on Thursday, November 21st; President Bobby DePhilippis presents the latest installment of his popular series “San Diego Fights” at the Crowne Plaza Hanalei Hotel in Mission Valley. The night will mark the second time that Bobby D Presents takes the most action packed fight card in town to the Crowne Plaza since back in 2010 they offered a stellar fight card featuring a way between Chris Chatman and Lester Gonzalez as well as the late Pablo Armenta.
This time, Vista, CA’s Aaron “Gavilan” Garcia (12-3-2, 3KOs) will take his turn up to bat and headline the night against an opponent to be determined. Garcia, one of the most decorated amateur fighters to come out of San Diego County, is on an exciting run after a short hiatus due to injury. Since then, Garcia impressively stopped Ensenada, Mexico, tough guy Cesar Garcia in the first round with a devastating body shot that ended up fracturing his opponent’s rib. In his last fight, Garcia took a shut out unanimous decision over journey man Johnny Frazier back in July.
Featured in the co-main event is the popular local undefeated super welterweight David Barragan (6-0-1, 3KOs) as he continues to build his record in his first scheduled six rounder. Barragan looked impressive in his last fight when he took on Canadian amateur standout Matt Dumais and scored a convincing four round unanimous decision. Barragan sent Dumais to the canvas in the first round but that only seemed to make Dumais stronger as he went after Barragan with everything that he had. The local fighter was able to stay poised and work his counterpunching on the aggressive Dumais. Barragan finished strong as he almost finished off his man in the fourth and final round. Barragan is scheduled against the always dangerous TBA.
In a special attraction, featherweight Prince “Tiger” Smalls (1-0-1) of San Diego will bring his slick boxing style to the Crowne Plaza squared circle in a scheduled four rounder. After a tough pro debut across the border in Tijuana earlier this summer, Smalls came back home in July and easily out-boxed Christian Cartier to earn a landslide unanimous decision. A competitive opponent is being seeked for Smalls’ third pro fight.
Also on the card will be undefeated super bantamweight “Smokin'” Joe Perez (4-0, 3KOs) in a scheduled four rounder. Perez, a Texas native, began his career in Iowa and after three quick knock out wins last year, Perez went the distance for the first time in his career against Alfredo Madrigal last September. Perez displayed a classic boxing style as he dissected Madrigal with strong combinations to the body and head. The twenty-three year old Perez looks to impress his new hometown in his next fight.
One more fight fleshes out the card.
