‘King’ Carlos Training in Mexico, Signs Agreement with Manager Al Haymon

Carlos Molina
IBF Light Middleweight Champion “King” Carlos Molina (22-5-2, 6 KOs) has signed a managerial contract with Al Haymon and is temporarily training in Mexico City, while promoter and attorney Leon Margules sorts out his immigration issues.

30-year-old Molina, originally from Michoacán, Mexico, says he’s excited to have aligned himself with one of boxing’s most high-profile managers and is looking forward to returning to the ring.

“I’m really excited and looking forward to fighting the best out there,” said Molina. “Al Haymon has a history of getting the big fights for guys and that’s what I wanted. He will make a great addition to my team, which already includes Warriors Boxing and Leon and Luis (De Cubas Sr.), who have always done right by me in my career.”

Leon Margules says he hopes to have Molina’s, a Mexican citizen living in Chicago for many years, immigration issues ironed out soon and is looking forward to getting the IBF Champion big fights.

“Carlos is excited to work with Al who is going to help us get him the important fights he’s always wanted,” said Margules. “Al does a fantastic job with all his fighters and we’re sure he’ll do the same for Carlos.”

Legendary, long-time boxing advisor Luis De Cubas Sr. says he’s also happy about the Haymon agreement for Molina.

“I’m very excited that Carlos is ready to come back and defend his title and I’m very happy he made Al Haymon his manager,” said De Cubas. “Al is the best in the world without a doubt.”

De Cubas also says he was surprised at Molina’s fitness level for having been away from training for a few months.

“I spent time with Carlos in Mexico and he’s in surprisingly great shape. He did 20 rounds his first day back and ran for an hour. I was very excited to see that. In that altitude, that’s amazing.”

Molina says he will be ready to return to battle “in June or July.”
