Kiev, Ukraine (December 4, 2014) 2012 Olympic Heavyweight Gold Medalist OLEKSANDR USYK makes his sixth pro start against South African veteran DANIE VENTER on Saturday, December 13th at the Sport Palace in Kiev, Ukraine.
Boasting a destructive record of 5-0-0 with five knockouts, Usyk has quickly become one of boxing’s hottest prospects.
Standing 6’3” tall, the heavy hitting Usyk sparred for two weeks leading up to this fight with former multiple time world title challenger OLA AFOLABI in preparation for the 10-rounder to be contested for the World Boxing Organization’s Inter-Continental Cruiserweight Title.
He is currently ranked # 7 by the sanctioning body.
Usyk is returning to action following a seventh round knockout of Daniel Bruwer on October 4th before a massive crowd at the Arena Stadium in Lviv, Ukraine.
The vastly more experienced Venter, 19-6-0 (14KO’s), is riding a four bout winning streak, most recently knocking out Big Ben Marcell Mulumbu on October 10, 2014 in Gauteng, South Africa.
“Training was terrific and I learned a great deal sparring with Ola. He’s one of the very best cruisers in the world and it was a tremendous experience,” said Usyk. “I’m getting better with each bout and looking to close out 2014 in style.”
Usyk also has been part of training camps this year with unified Heavyweight World Champion WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO.
Stated ALEXANDER KRASSYUK of K2 Promotions, “The sparring sessions between Oleksandr and Ola were terrific and a very strong learning experience”
“This has been a tremendous year of growth of Oleksandr and we’re looking towards an outstanding 2015 for him. Defeating Venter and winning the WBO Inter-Continental Title would be a excellent way to finish his 2014 campaign.”
