Kiev, Ukraine (December 16, 2014) With a resounding ninth round knockout victory on Saturday night in Kiev, Ukraine, fast rising cruiserweight prospect OLEKSANDR USYK capped off a brilliant year improving his perfect record to 6-0 with six stoppages.
Fighting in front of a massive crowd at the Sport Palace which included former Heavyweight World Champion and promoter VITALI KLITSCHKO, the 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist battered South African veteran DANIE VENTER over the first eight stanzas before a barrage of punches called a halt to the fight at the 2:29 mark of the round.
The win earned Usyk the World Boxing Organization’s Inter-Continental Cruiserweight belt.
“This has been a sensational year for Oleksandr. Inside the ring he’s truly performed as a future world champion and clearly he’s the most popular fighter in Eastern Europe,” said ALEXANDER KRASSYUK of K2 Promotions Ukraine. “In the coming year we’re looking to see him continue to improve and serve notice that he’s the next ruler of the cruiserweight division.”
Said Usyk, “Venter was a tough guy, a little awkward but I’m glad to get the hard working rounds in. It was a terrific way to end the year and I’m very thankful for the immense support from the fans in the Ukraine and all over Europe.”
“I’ll take a short break now but I can’t wait to see what the New Year brings.”
