Erislandy Lara won an easy 12-round unanimous decision over Delvin Rodriguez to retain the WBA Super Welterweight title at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago.
Lara was never in danger and boxed at a measured pace and landing thudding lefts and right hooks throughout the contest. Lara scored a knockdown in round six from a straight left.
Lara, 153 3/4 lbs of Cuba won by shutout scores of 120-107 on all cards and is now 21-2-2. Rodriguez, 153 1/2 lbs of Danbury, CT is now 28-8-4.
Artur Beterbiev scored a 7th round stoppage over Alexander Johnson in a scheduled 10-round Light Heavyweight bout and kept his perfect knockout record in tact.
In round five, Beterbiev dropped Johnson with a jab. Beterbiev landed a big right on the ropes that was ruled a knockdown as the ropes held Johnson up. Johnson was bleeding from the nose continued to take a pummeling at the end of the frame.
In round seven, a short right hand put Johnson down for a 3rd time. Seconds later a hard right sent Johnson to the canvas just as referee Mark Nelson was stopping the fight at 1:38.
Beterbiev, 175 lbs of Montreal is now 9-0 with 9 knockouts. Johnson, 174 1/4 lbs is now 16-3.
