TIME named Ramla Ali to the 2023 TIME Women of the Year list, recognizing 12 extraordinary leaders fighting for a more equal world. The full list and related tributes appear in the March 13 / March 20 issue of TIME, available on newsstands on Friday, March 10, and now at time.com/women-of-the-year

Ali, a UNICEF ambassador, began the Sisters Club in 2018 a nonprofit that offers boxing lessons to women who don’t usually enjoy access to the sport: those from ethnic or religious minority backgrounds, as well as survivors of domestic abuse. There are four locations in London, and having opened in Los Angeles, Ali will add a second American location in Fort Worth, Texas soon.

Ali is flying inside the ring too, with TIME interviewing the Somali Olympian in the build-up to her last action where Ali comfortably outpointed Avril Mathie to land her first pro title, the IBF Inter-Continental Super-Bantamweight strap.
