Los Angeles, CA (August 27, 2023) In front of another full house at The Commerce Casino in Los Angeles, CA, ‘King’ Callum Walsh, (8-0, 7 KOs), of Cork, Ireland, THE Fastest Rising Star in Boxing, stopped battle-tested veteran Juan Jose Velasco, (24-5, 15 KOs) in the first defense of his WBC US Silver Welterweight Title on Saturday night.
Headlining the Hollywood Fight Nights event promoted by Tom Loeffler’s 360 Promotions and broadcast globally on UFC FIGHT PASS, the 22-year-old Walsh displayed his full arsenal leading to Velasco’s retirement at the end of the fourth round.
With his Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach looking on, the southpaw Walsh started strong in the opening stanza utilizing a multitude of combinations against the valiant Velasco. Walsh continued to outwork Velasco in the next three rounds leading to the stoppage at the end of the fourth.
Among the celebrities in attendance included UFC Superstar Jorge Masvidal, UFC Ring Announcer Bruce Buffer, Mr. Olympia Flex Lewis, actor Frank Stallone, MMA referee Mike Beltran, UFC Strawweight Contender Tabatha Ricci and actor Curran Walters.
Co-featured at Hollywood Fight Nights, light heavyweight powerhouse Umar Dzambekov, (7-0, 6 KOs), a native of Austria now fighting out of Los Angeles, CA quickly dropped David Zegarra, (35-11-1, 22 KOs), twice to quickly earn the first-round victory in their scheduled eight-rounder. Time of the stoppage was 1:59.
Fighting in a scheduled eight-rounder, welterweight Gor Yeritsyan, (16-0, 13 KOs), a native of Armenia, now fighting out of Los Angeles, CA knocked out Rogelio Jun Dolinguez,
(25-5-2, 19 KOs). Staggering Dolinguez in the opening stanza, Yeritsyan dropped the Philippines native with a left hook to the body which called a halt to the fight at the :24 mark of the second round.
In an entertaining and action-packed super featherweight fight, Arnold Alejandro, (12-1-1, 10 KOs), won an eight-round split decision over Adan Ochoa, (12-4, 5 KOs). The clash was fast-paced as both fighters battled throughout with the crowd standing and cheering. At the end of the spirited fight, scorecards were 80-72 twice for Alejandro and 77-75 for Ochoa
Top super flyweight newcomer Daniel ‘Chucky’ Barrera, (4-0-1, 3 KOs), of Riverside, CA continued to impress with a dominant performance over six rounds against veteran Gilberto Mendoza,
(19-16-4, 10 KOs), of Modesto, CA. Displaying an excellent skill set, Barrera used a piston like jab to set up combinations throughout. All three judges scored the shutout victory for 21-year-old Barrera, 60-54.
Opening the broadcast in a women’s flyweight five rounder, Gloria Munguilla, (5-0), of Los Angeles, CA stayed perfect with a hard-fought unanimous decision against Shawna Ormsby, (0-2-1), of Titusville, FL. Munguilla stayed aggressive throughout the fight as the competitive Ormsby worked hard until the end.
