Fall River, MA (September 16, 2023)

Despite being a amateur boxing hotbed, Fall River, Massachusetts has not seen a professional bout in over 30 years. That all changes tonight when Boston Boxing Promotions presents “Fall River Brawl” at the legendary Fall River PAL, a venue which has seen the likes of legends such as Marvelous Marvin Hagler compete in its intimate setting.

In the main event, two Fall River natives will go head to head for local bragging rights and civic pride when Kyle Cusick takes on Johnny Kim just blocks away from where Lizzie Borden and her infamous axe put Fall River on the map.

For Cusick, who is trained by local boxing folk hero, Libby Medeiros and trains upstairs at the PAL, a throwback gym whose walls are covered in yellowed posters that showcase the town and the venue’s long boxing history, it’s a dream come true.

“Boxing has such a rich history in Fall River, from being home to the Southern New England Golden Gloves to multiple gyms and professional fighters currently in the city, it’s almost unreal that it has been 33 years since there has been a professional fight card here. To be the main event in my hometown, in the same building as my gym and to have my longtime trainer Libby Medeiros, who cornered Ray Oliveria in the last main event here, in my corner, it’s literally a dream come true.”, explains Cusick.

Boston Boxing Promotions President, Peter Czymbor agrees with Cusick.

“We always have fighters and fans from Fall River who appear on and attend our events in Northern Massachusetts and New Hampshire that have asked for us to head south and do an event here. The time has finally come and the excitement the city has already shown for the event has proven it’s long overdue. Kyle is one of our favorite fighters and people so it’s fitting he gets to be the main event.”

Along with Cusick vs. Kim, the night will also feature Fall River fighters, Stephen Langlais in his farewell fight and heavyweight, Chris Aiello in his professional debut as well the professional debut of Cuban transplant Raidel Rodriguez against 40 fight veteran Brandon Blue.

Handling the night’s PPV commentating duties will be Boston Boxing Promotions’ always lively team of BoxRec’s Grey Johnson and musician/fighter, Chris Jay as well as Fall River trainer Aaron Bernardo along with special guests.
