Here is what the fighters had to say Wednesday from MGM Grand:
ERISLANDY LARA
“Garcia is a good fighter and he’s been a champion in multiple divisions, but let’s see how he does at 160. It’s a different animal up here.
“I’ve just worked hard and taken care of my body. There’s no secret to it. I take this sport seriously.”
DANNY GARCIA
“I’m chasing history. If you believe in yourself 100%, then the sky is the limit. I believe in the work me and my team put in. We’re coming to achieve greatness.
“We had the right sparring and did everything correct to get ready for Lara. We’re excited to get in the ring.
“I always feel nerves before a fight. If you’re not feeling those nerves, you’re doing something wrong. You want to be on your toes and ready for everything.”
CALEB PLANT
“He’s not experienced enough for me. I’m ready for the biggest challenges, but first thing’s first, I’m focused on Saturday night and getting that belt around my waist.
“Family is super important to me. My family is always in the gym with me. We’re a boxing family and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
TREVOR MCCUMBY
“I’ve had a lot more sparring and running this camp and I’ve just been doing everything my coach has asked.
“I’m not nervous at all. I’ve done this my whole life and I’m ready for him. I’m ready to meet him in the center of the ring and I’ll be ready if he wants to get on his bike.”
ROLANDO ROMERO
“I don’t know much about Jaimes, but I know it’s important to put on a good performance. I’m focused and haven’t thought about anything past this fight.”
MANUEL JAIMES
“I had a great camp getting in a lot of work at Robert Garcia’s gym. They have Hall of Fame coaches and amazing sparring. It was exactly what I needed.
“This is what I dreamed of as a kid. I always wanted to be on the biggest cards and it doesn’t get any bigger than a Canelo fight on Mexican Independence Day Weekend in Las Vegas.
“I’m the underdog coming into Rolly’s hometown, but it’s all good. I’m coming to win.”
STEPHEN FULTON JR.
“I’m just happy to be back. I’m feeling good and I’m ready. I have a new lead trainer and we’ve worked on a lot of different things that will show on fight night.
“I’m not sure what to expect from Castro. Nobody fights the same every time out. Styles make fights. My message to the fan is that I’m coming for the knockout.”
CARLOS CASTRO
“It’s a dream come true for me to be on this Canelo undercard. It’s the kind of thing you work your whole career for.
“I’m expecting a hungry Stephen Fulton Jr. coming off a loss. He wants to avenge it and he’s coming with everything, just like I am.
“We definitely are coming to steal the show. I don’t have a prediction, but it’s gonna be fireworks.”
