Monday’s event also featured undefeated heavyweight prospect Dainier Pero, who will compete in a non-televised undercard bout on October 19. Here is what the fighters had to say Monday from Split T Boxing Club in Las Vegas:

TIM TSZYU

“I bring the heat every time I get in the ring. I’m coming in with aggression on October 19 and I’m leaving with that IBF belt.

“Murtazaliev is a dog. That always presents a tremendous task. He’s strong and he’s got a competitive edge. I’m looking forward to fighting someone like that.

“I was on the same card as Murtazaliev once and I do remember thinking that he’s a tall guy, but most of my opponents are taller than me. We gave each other a little eye-to-eye, like we knew we’d see each other down the road.

“I just love the fight game. I enjoy the thrill of it and I enjoy the progression. I want to get better. I’m never satisfied. I always want to move on and go after the next target. That keeps me motivated.

“I love it here in Las Vegas. Boxing is so big here. I went to the Canelo fight and saw the love and passion. That’s what boxing is all about.

“My cut from my last fight feels good now. It’s in the shape of a v so I’m saying it’s ‘V for vengeance.’

“Could’ve, would’ve, should’ve, my last fight is all in the past. I just have to move on and look for answers another way. The biggest lesson I learned from the Fundora fight was to focus on the present.”

JOHAN GONZALEZ

“Everyone watching is going to see a better Johan Gonzalez. I’m going to be aggressive like I always am, but I’ve also added some news things that everyone is going to see on October 19.

“It means a lot for me to be in this position. I want to show everyone that I’ve improved since the fight with Jesus Ramos and I’ll show it against Tellez.

“We wanted to get right back into the ring after my recent win and keep pushing toward big fights like this. That’s the mindset of my team and that’s what we’re looking to show on October 19.”

DAINIER PERO

“I’m very grateful to be on this amazing card and people can expect that I’m going to give my best in the ring and represent myself and my people well.

“It’s great to have someone like Bob Santos in my corner, because he’s someone who really trusts me, and I trust him as well. That’s what you need from a trainer.

“I’m going to keep taking it one fight at a time. No matter what happens, I’m never going to give up and I’m going to keep fighting for what I want.”
