Montreal, Quebec, Canada – January 21, 2025 – Former WBC world champion, the spectacular and popular Kim Clavel (20-2, 3 KOs) faces former WBC/WBA world champion, Anabel Ortiz ( 34-7, 4 KOs) of Mexico City in the event titled “UNSTOPPABLE”.
The evening is a presentation of Mise-O-Jeu in collaboration with Bell Media.
The important WBC International and IBF Intercontinental strawweight titles will be at stake in a 10-round clash on February 27 at the chic Montreal Casino.
GYM will present its 180th gala in its history and its 80th at the Montreal Casino.
Clavel who has been extremely active, she will fight her 4th fight in less than 10 months after her convincing victories in her last three outings, all at the Montreal Casino. In her last outing, she was RUTHLESS against Mexican Mayela “La Cobrita” Perez, winning every round of the fight in a superb display of speed, skill and precision.
His goal is still to regain the world championship belt for a second time, a feat that only Arturo Gatti, Marie-Ève ??Dicaire and Jean Pascal have achieved in the history of Quebec boxing. To do this, she is targeting the 105-pound division.
Ortiz is a seasoned veteran who was WBC world champion from 2009 to 2011, then WBA world champion from 2013 to 2021, successfully defending her title nine times during that time. In total, the excellent pugilist fought 19 world championship fights, maintaining a brilliant record of 13 victories against 6 defeats.
In his last outing, last December, Ortiz fought a trench battle in the WBA light flyweight (108 lb) world championship fight in Toronto against undefeated champion Sara Bailey, losing by a very close decision.
Ortiz is at her best in her natural 105-pound division and the fight promises to be very tough for our local favorite, but the stakes are high! Indeed, the winner will immediately obtain a world championship fight the next time she enters the ring.
Kim Clavel won the WBC light flyweight world championship at the end of the pandemic, in July 2022, thanks to a flawless performance by dethroning Mexican Yesenia Gomez (21-8-4.7 KOs).
It was in front of a won over crowd of more than 4,000 spectators, at Place Bell in Laval, in January 2023, that she attempted to unify her WBC belt with that of the WBA worn by another Mexican, Yesica Nery Plata (30-2, 3 KOs). A little overwhelmed by the scale of the promotion and by her lack of experience, the Quebecer lost in a hotly contested confrontation.
After taking the measure of Naomi Reyes (9-3, 5 KOs) and consolidating her position as mandatory contender, Clavel returns, for a third consecutive time, to Place Bell, in October 2023, where, another generous crowd awaited him to dethrone the Argentinian Evelin Nazarena Bermudez (20-1-1, 7 KOs), IBF and WBO champion. In a fight fought at high intensity and of exceptional caliber, Clavel was the winner according to the vast majority, but had to lose by split decision in a heartbreaking verdict.
After a long break and major self-questioning, Kim Clavel regained a taste for competition and six months after her defeat, we began the reconstruction of the great pugilist. Three fights in seven months at the Montreal Casino added a lot of experience and maturity. Today's Kim Clavel is more seasoned, more complete than ever and just as hungry.
Once again, we are convinced that the Cabaret room at the Montreal Casino will be full on February 27. There are many supporters of the great Kim Clavel, she who promises to impress us, to give her full measure and to be “UNSTOPPABLE” as a great historic moment in her career approaches.
After the “GLADIATEURS DU RING” event on Thursday, January 30, we will be able to announce the other participants in this beautiful February evening at the Montreal Casino
