Cranston, RI – CES Boxing is proud to announce the signing of rising amateur star Will Guilmette to an exclusive promotional contract. The signing will be formally announced this Saturday, April 19 at Café e Fumare cigar lounge in Cranston, RI. Details for the press conference, which is open to the public, are as follows: Date: Saturday, April 19 Time: 2:30pm EST Location: Café e Fumare, 1464 Park Ave, Cranston, RI 02920 Guilmette, who began boxing at age 14, is a decorated amateur who won several New England titles and competed in the Olympic trial qualifiers. “Being from Rhode Island and signing with CES is a dream come true,” said the 23-year-old, who also made several appearances in the ‘Jimmy Burchfield Classic Invitational’ amateur showcase. “CES is the biggest and best promotion around, and it has been for decades”. Seeing Guilmette compete up close convinced CES Boxing Founder Jimmy Burchfield Sr. that Guilmette had the style, character and potential to become the next big attraction out of Rhode Island. “We believe Will Guilmette has all the tools—inside and outside the ring—to become a major star in this sport,” said Burchfield Sr. of the Coventry native. “Will has the potential to have as great a career as Vinny Paz, Gary “Tiger” Balletto, and Peter Manfredo, Jr.” “My goal over the next few years is to show everyone that I will be the next big thing to come out of Rhode Island,” agrees Guilmette, who cites Manfredo Jr. as one of his childhood idols. In fact, “The Pride of Providence” will be a special guest at the press conference. A cast member of the original Contender series, Manfredo Jr. is a former IBO Middleweight Champion who faced the likes of Joe Calzaghe, Jeff Lacy, and Sergio Mora during his successful career. “I looked up to Peter Manfredo Jr. since I was very young,” says Guilmette of childhood hero. “I first sparred with him when I was 14 and continued to train with him throughout my amateur career. I went to my first boxing match when I was in the first grade, and Peter was the main event at the Dunkin Donuts Center. I still have the ‘Italian Warrior’ autographed glove from that night. I learned just as much out of the ring from Peter as I learned in the ring. He is one of the most standup-humble guys I ever met. He will always be a huge role model to me. Not only in boxing, but in life as well. I cannot thank Peter enough for all he’s done for me.” Guilmette’s own professional journey begins on May 10, when he makes his debut against North Carolina’s Jemorean Smith at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, CT. “On May 10th, I’m coming to make a statement,” says Guilmette of his pro debut. “I was born for this. Everyone will see all the years of discipline, sacrifice, and hard work come together in the ring that night.” While fans will get a glimpse of the bourgeoning star this Saturday at Café e Fumare in Cranston, Rhode Island, tickets for CES Boxing’s ‘Championship Jackpot’ on May 10 are on sale now, beginning at $82.
