MONTREAL, April 22, 2025 — The delay of Wyatt Sanford’s professional debut will have been short-lived. The Canadian Olympic medalist will step into the ring on May 17, facing Gonzalo Manriquez in a 4-round bout featured as the co-main event of a card organized by Plaid Army Entertainment at the Fredericton Coliseum in New Brunswick.
“Of course, we would have liked for his debut to take place on one of our shows, and we plan to have him fight on all our upcoming events. But in the meantime, it was a priority for us to keep Wyatt active by finding him a fight as quickly as possible,” said Eye of the Tiger president Camille Estephan.
Let’s not forget that last August, at the Paris Games, Wyatt Sanford made history by becoming the first Canadian — since 1996 — to win an Olympic boxing medal. He then decided to join the Eye of the Tiger stable this past January, beginning his climb through the professional ranks. His highly anticipated debut was originally scheduled for April 10 at the Casino de Montréal, but a medical issue on his opponent’s side the day before the fight forced a change of plans. The wait, however, didn’t last long before EOTTM found him a new bout. This new matchup on the road, against Argentine brawler Gonzalo Manriquez (5-5-1), in New Brunswick, will also have a local flavor for the pride of Kennetcook, Nova Scotia.
“I can’t wait to get back in the ring, especially with the chance to do it so close to home. I already feel ready to fight, and more importantly, to deliver a great performance,” said super-lightweight prospect Wyatt Sanford.
Tickets for Wyatt Sanford’s professional debut at the Fredericton Coliseum on May 17 are available on the Ticket Pro platform (HERE). While the EOTTM prospect will be featured in the co-main event, the evening will be headlined by New Brunswick super-welterweight hopeful Sean Finnigan (3-0, 2 KOs).
