PHILADELPHIA – June 4, 2025 – Highly-acclaimed teenage prospect “King” David Garcia will make his debut for boxing legend Danny Garcia’s Swift Promotions this Saturday night as he takes on Marcelino Rangel (1-1) in a four-round bantamweight matchup from the Newtown Sports & Events Center in Newtown, Pennsylvania, outside of Philadelphia.
“Being able to make my U.S. debut with Swift Promotions has always been a dream of mine,” said Garcia, who’s already racked up a 3-0 record with 2 KO’s. “It means everything to me. It means that on June 7, a star will be born. That day will be legendary.”
At just 15-years-old, Garcia turned pro in 2024 after a standout amateur run across 80 fights that included four national championships (U.S. Championship, National Junior Olympics, National Silver Gloves and Wester Elite Qualifier). A native of Phoenix, Arizona, Garcia scored three victories last year, including two by stoppage, and will campaign at 115 pounds. Now 16-years-old, Garcia says his young foray into the paid ranks has always been the plan.
“We’ve known since I was about 13 that we were going to turn pro early,” said Garcia, who’s trained by his father David Sr. “We always wanted to do something different and stand out. Turning pro at 15 I feel like LeBron James, fresh out of high school to the NBA. That’s the type of statement we made by choosing the decision to go pro young and sign with a promotion company like Swift Promotions. We wanted to stand out.”
Garcia began boxing at just four-years-old, as his father and trainer David Sr. was inspired by the father-son team of Danny and Angel Garcia. He’s quickly shown the makings of a future world champion, and with the backing of boxing stalwarts such as Danny Garcia, Puerto Rican star Edgar Berlanga and former world champion Mickey Bey.
“Right now, Edgar is at the highest level in his career as far as his mentality and work ethic,” said Garcia, who will join Berlanga in training camp after June 7. “I’m excited to be around that energy and I think it’s gonna help me grow. I’ve been to camp with him a few times when I was younger, but this will be my first time when we’re both pros. I’m looking to be in that atmosphere with his killer mentality.”
With his idol Danny Garcia, “King” David explained how this June 7 event is the culmination of a years-long relationship between the two Garcia’s.
“I met Danny since I was six-years-old and I’ve been around him ever since,” said “King” David Garcia. “Whenever I was going to his fights or his training camps, I always told myself I was gonna be in his shoes one day. We used to talk about him signing me when he was later in his career, so it was a no-brainer when the time came. I feel comfortable with Danny guiding my career since he’s been in every situation that I’m gonna go through. We have the cheat code having Danny in our corner.”
A native of Phoenix, Arizona, Garcia scored three victories in his debut year, and will look to make a big statement fighting just outside of Philadelphia, a place he considers his home away from home because of his time spent with the legendary Danny Garcia.
“I’m so ready to put on a show for the Philly fans,” said Garcia. “That’s always been a second home for me, so to have my U.S. debut there is really exciting. I’m looking to make a statement to show that I belong in the pro game at the elite level. I’m gonna show everybody why I turned pro at such a young age.”
Despite his young age, Garcia has already set his expectations as high as possible, with his eyes set on fighting as much as possible in order to rocket up the rankings on his way to becoming the youngest world champion in history.
“The goal is to get more fights and more wins,” said Garcia. “We got a couple of big ones coming up, so I’m gonna stay busy. I plan to make a run to try to be the youngest world champion in the history of boxing. Until then, I just want to rack up more wins and be an inspiration for other kids out there.”
