Antonio Vargas has signed a co-promotional deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom and Boxlab Promotions.

Vargas (19-1 11 KOs) was elevated to full Bantamweight World champion status by the WBA in May, following his stoppage win in December at Caribe Royale in Orlando over Winston Guerrero to land the interim strap.

The 2016 Olympic Team USA member showed his mix of skill and grit in that win, climbing off the canvas in the second round having put the unbeaten Guerrero down in the opening session and ended the fight in the tenth, on an action-packed main event live on DAZN.

Vargas will make the first defense of his title in a showdown to be announced soon, and the 28 year old is excited with his new link-up with promoter Eddie Hearn ahead of the biggest night of his career to date.

“All glory to God for this opportunity,” said Vargas. “I’m so grateful to have the support of Boxlab Promotions and Matchroom as I take the next step in my journey.

“I know there is still so much work to be done, but I’m blessed to be surrounded by a team that believes in me. I am ready to defend my World title and continue to make everyone proud.”

“I’m delighted to welcome Antonio to the team,” said Hearn. “Antonio is in a great spot as the WBA ruler at 118lbs, there’s some huge fights in and around Bantamweight for him.

“It is great to be working closely as always with our friend and partner Amaury Piedra on Antonio’s future, and with the backing of Matchroom and Boxlab, the sky is the limit for him.”
