| LOWELL, MA – Undefeated welterweight prospect Jaydell “The Pazmanian Devil” Pazmino (7-0, 7 KOs), of Sandown, NH, puts his perfect record on the line this Saturday, September 6, when he takes on Nicaragua’s battle-tested Giovanni “Babyface” Gutierrez at Lowell Memorial Auditorium. The bout tops CES Boxing’s ‘Mill City Mayhem 2’ undercard. Tickets for ‘Mill City Mayhem 2’ are quickly selling out. Purchase yours now at CES Fights or the Lowell Memorial Auditorium website. The 24-year-old Pazmino signed with CES Boxing in July after making an explosive impression in his last fight, a first-round blowout of Brazilian Aelio Mesquita on a CES Boxing show in the very same venue. “We went over the game plan and he was supposed to box,” says Julio Peña, who trained Pazmino since Jaydell was 15 years old. “Then the original Pazmanian Devil, Vinny Paz, came into the dressing room and said, ‘what are we going to do tonight?’, and I knew the gameplan was out the window and Jaydell was going to go all out.” Instead of boxing first and then applying pressure as planned, the Lawrence, MA native launched a fierce attack, blowing away his opponent in the first round. The performance impressed CES Boxing Founder Jimmy Burchfield Sr. so much that he made it a top priority to sign the new ‘Pazmanian Devil’. “The first time I saw Jaydell fight, he scored a spectacular knockout that electrified the building,” recalls Burchfield. “He’s got the power, the charisma, and the pedigree to become a real star in New England boxing and beyond. CES Boxing has a proud history of developing champions, and we believe Jaydell has all the tools to continue the tradition.” For Pazmino, the feeling was mutual. “I wasn’t signed with CES at the time, but one fight with them and I thought, ‘these guys are professional’,” explains Pazmino. “Compared to the other promoters I fought with, these guys are top notch. I could see that they can take me to the next level, so I signed with them. It’s a great opportunity and I’m going to put on an amazing show for them on Saturday.” In Pazmino’s way stands Gutierrez, a rugged 26-fight veteran intent on using his vast experience to spoil Jaydell’s perfect record. “I fought a lot of guys with experience,” says an unfazed Pazmino. “But I’m young, explosive and elusive. I do a lot of level changing and he’s just not ready for my style. I’m going to be too athletic for him.” Pazmino’s confidence comes from the fact that he is familiar with Gutierrez, having shared the same stage at Lowell Memorial Auditorium back in June. “I caught a bit of his fight,” says Pazmino. “He seems durable. I know he got stopped in the fifth round, but he was still standing and he looked like he was still in the fight. I thought it was a premature stoppage, so I really want to knock him out clean and make a statement.” The question is whether this time, Pazmino will resist the urge to fight like his namesake. The moniker “Pazmanian Devil” carries special significance in New England boxing, having been made famous by two-division world champion Vinny Paz, who was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame earlier this year. The Providence native was a force of nature that combined speed, guts, and an indomitable spirit that often overwhelmed his opponents. Far from feeling the pressure of sharing a legendary nickname, Pazmino embraces it. “I’m going to live up to the name,” insists the 24-year-old. “Vinny Paz saw how I fought the last time – I made an awesome statement, and I’m gonna put on another wonderful performance on Saturday. I’m gonna fill those shoes—I promise you.” Perhaps the pressure does not intimidate Pazmino because boxing is in his blood. Jaydell’s pugilistic journey began at 13, influenced by both his Puerto Rican heritage and his family’s rich boxing tradition. “You gotta learn how to fight when you grow up in Lawrence,”laughs Pazmino. “But also, both of my grandfathers were boxers. They fought in the nationals and in the Golden Gloves in Lowell, so fighting is in my family. First, I was a Tae Kwon Do artist. I wanted to expand my martial arts, so I got into boxing and quickly fell in love with it. Now in his 8th bout as a professional, Pazmino will fight in the same city where he and his grandfathers boxed in the Golden Gloves, less than an hour away from his hometown. “I’m excited man – this feels like home,” says Pazmino of fighting in Lowell. “I’ve been training since I was 13 years old. I’m ready, but I’m taking it one fight at a time. I’m gonna rank up, get that regional belt and just keep working. There’s no rush for success, but we’re going to get there one fight at a time.” As for what fans can expect Saturday, Pazmino left no doubt: “I’m an entertaining boxer, 7-0 with 7 knockouts. You’re going to see another knockout, so come show support. I won’t let you guys down. Let’s go!” For more information about ‘Mill City Mayhem 2’ and all other CES Boxing events, visit cesfights.com.
