BAM: I WANT TO BE POUND-FOR-POUND NUMBER ONE!

Jesse Rodriguez wants to become the pound-for-pound number one fighter in the sport – and believes that starts by winning his unification showdown with Phumelele Cafu for the WBC, WBO and Ring Magazine Super-Flyweight titles at Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas on Saturday July 19, live worldwide on DAZN.

TICKETS FOR BAM VS. CAFU ARE ON SALE NOW VIA SEATGEEK.COM

Rodriguez (21-0 14 KOs) is looking to unify at Super-Flyweight having done so at Flyweight in spectacular fashion against Sunny Edwards in Arizona in December 2023, following that win by collecting the belts he puts on the line against unbeaten South African Cafu (11-0-3 8 KOs) with a stunning KO win over Juan Francisco Estrada in the same state last June to become a two-time Super-Flyweight ruler.

The San Antonio ace fights in his home state for the first time since he became a two-weight World champion April 2023 when he collected the vacant WBO Flyweight strap, and has fought at the Ford Center before, moving to 11-0 there in February 2020.

‘Bam’ has certainly shot to superstardom since that night, but the ambitious 25 year old has more targets in mind, starting with unifying once again on July 19 and looking to become undisputed and climb to the top the list of the best fighters on the planet.

“I would love to be number one pound-for-pound,” said Rodriguez. “There’s a lot of bragging rights being there, and I feel that I can go so far forward from where I am currently at.

“I’m never satisfied, there’s always more to gain and win, so I can go ten times higher from here. I would love to go undisputed, so that’s two more fights at 115lbs, so we’ll see how it pans out.

“It’s bad ass seeing the smaller weights shine. When I was an amateur, it was Chocolatito that was doing it and I was like ‘Damn, this is cool,’ so for me to be in the same position, it means a lot.

“I’m so happy to be fighting in Dallas, it’s great to fight back in my home state, I’m happy to be back home.”

Rodriguez’s clash with Cafu tops a stacked card in Frisco, with the chief support bout of the evening pitting the explosive and unbeaten Diego Pacheco defending his USWBC and WBO International Super-Middleweight titles against Trevor McCumby, while Team USA’s Olympic bronze medal man Omari Jones fights for the third time in the paid ranks, taking on Alfredo Blanco over six rounds, with much more action to be added to the card in due course.

She has continued to build her undefeated record, most recently securing a unanimous decision over Perla Lomeli in November 2024 to defend her female NABF bantamweight title. Tellez will look to keep dominance over Salinas on June 7, following Salinas’ recent losses against Cecilia Nino Rodriguez in Match 2025 and Kenia Stephanie Enriquez in February 2024.

Chaparro landed a sensational first-round KO win in his pro debut on Most Valuable Prospects 6 in April 2024, before scoring a stunning second-round knockout win on the preliminary card of MVP’s Jake Paul vs. Mike Perry in July 2024. He also earned a first-round TKO victory on MVP’s Most Valuable Prospects 9 in Puerto Rico in October 2024. Most recently, Chaparro traveled to the Dominican Republic where he won by TKO over Jordhany Caba.

Eric Priest vs. Luis Arias: A Middleweight Clash of Generations

Tonight, under the bright lights of Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, rising undefeated prospect Eric Priest will square off against seasoned veteran Luis Arias in a high-stakes showdown for the WBA Continental North America Middleweight Title.

Priest (15-0, 8 KOs) is a slick technician with sharp fundamentals and the ability to adapt under pressure — a rare trait for a 26-year-old still climbing the ranks. This bout represents a key step in his journey, a proving ground to show he’s not just a prospect, but a future contender ready for the big stage.

Standing in his way is Arias (20-4-1, 9 KOs), a battle-hardened warrior with miles on the odometer and a résumé that includes wars with top-tier opposition. Arias knows how to weather storms, turn momentum, and capitalize on the smallest of mistakes. His aggressive style and grit make him a dangerous test for any rising star.

This fight is more than just a title bout — it’s a generational collision, where youth, speed, and precision meet grit, experience, and ring savvy. Priest will aim to dictate the pace with his accuracy and footwork, while Arias will look to drag him into deep waters, force exchanges, and see if the young gun can handle the heat.

One fighter is chasing his breakout moment. The other is fighting to prove he’s still a factor in the middleweight landscape. May 30 will deliver answers — the kind that only come inside the ropes.

Yoenli Hernández Set to Defend WBA Continental Latin America Title Against Kyrone Davis in Las Vegas

This May 31, the spotlight returns to the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas, where Cuban rising star Yoenli Hernández will put his WBA Continental Latin America Middleweight Title on the line against the battle-tested Kyrone Davis in a showdown that promises fireworks.

Hernández (7-0, 7 KOs) has been nothing short of sensational since turning pro. The undefeated Cuban slugger brings a perfect knockout record into the ring, showcasing concussive power and relentless pressure that has overwhelmed every opponent he’s faced. In his most recent outing, Hernández dismantled Ángel Ruiz Astorga with a fifth-round TKO, further cementing his status as one of the division’s hottest prospects.

Across the ring stands Davis (19-3-1, 6 KOs), a gritty and seasoned American contender who’s been in with the best, including a tough battle against former world champion David Benavidez. Davis boasts solid ring IQ, technical skill, and the kind of experience that could pose a real test for the still-developing Hernández.

Expect a clash of styles: Hernández will look to impose his power early, while Davis may try to drag the fight into deep waters, using movement, angles, and grit to frustrate the Cuban phenom.

With high stakes and contrasting arsenals, this bout could steal the show on fight night.

WBA Future of Colombian Boxing Returns June 7 with Action-Packed Card in Barranquilla

The WBA Future program is back with another exciting night of boxing scheduled for Saturday, June 7, in Barranquilla, Colombia. The event will feature nine professional bouts and an amateur showdown between regional teams from Atlántico and Magdalena. The action will unfold at Cuadrilátero Élite Gym and will be streamed live on the World Boxing Association’s official YouTube channel.

One of the main attractions of the evening will be the return of Yeni Marcela Arias, former world title challenger and standout of the Colombian women’s national team. Arias is set to headline the amateur segment before the spotlight shifts to the pro ranks later in the card.

The professional slate includes a compelling clash between two promising prospects: Orlando Pérez Jr. of San Onofre will face off against Miguel Bolaños from Soledad. Both fighters are hungry, unbeaten, and know that a win here could push them one step closer to national recognition and beyond.

Magdalena’s boxing federation has confirmed it will send a squad of seven fighters to take on the home team from Atlántico. This cross-regional matchup promises to be a showcase of Colombia’s emerging boxing talent and a key development opportunity for young fighters looking to make their mark.

VIDEO: FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE | Plant vs. Resendiz & Charlo vs. LaManna

PLANT VS. RESENDIZ & CHARLO VS. LAMANNA FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

LAS VEGAS – May 29, 2025 – Super middleweight stars Caleb Plant and Jermall Charlo previewed their respective co-headlining showdowns at Thursday’s final press conference ahead of PBC Championship Boxing on Prime Video this Saturday, May 31 from Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. Plant will step in against Mexican knockout artist Armando Reséndiz, while Charlo faces veteran contender Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna on the four-fight card that streams exclusively on Prime Video for all Prime members in the United States and select countries.

The press conference also featured top middleweight contenders Yoenli Feliciano Hernandez and Kyrone “Shut It Down” Davis, who duel in a 10-round showdown, plus rising contender Isaac “La Bestia” Lucero and hard-hitting Omar Valenzuela, who match up in a super welterweight attraction that opens the streaming presentation at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

Tickets for the live event are on sale now through AXS.com.

Here is what the fighters had to say Thursday from Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino:

CALEB PLANT

“It feels good to be back on the big stage. My team put in a lot of work and left no stone unturned and that’s gonna show on Saturday.

“I’m looking to put on a show. This is a big moment for Armando, but it’s big for me too. I have a lot on the line. He may have nothing to lose, but I’ve got everything to lose. I sacrificed a lot and you’re gonna see it in the ring.

“I’m a competitor and I’m a winner. I’ve been a winner my whole life. Regardless of whatever I’ve done, that’s not what wakes me up in the morning.

“At this point in my career, I’m a complete fighter. Whether its inside, outside or midrange, I have great legs and great feet. Whatever he decides to do, we’ll be right there with him, but levels above. We’re gonna show him there’s levels to this.

“Experience plays a big factor in every fight and that’s something that I’ve had. I’ve faced the best in the sport. I’m the biggest and baddest dude he’s ever fought.

“You’re gonna be hearing ‘And still’, and it’s gonna be in impressive fashion. So make sure you tune in.”

ARMANDO RESENDIZ

“This has me so motivated and happy that I can’t even express how excited I am. My team has gone above and beyond and I’m feeling like the best version of myself.

“I don’t care what Caleb says. I’m just focused on myself. I’m gonna speak with my fists when that bell rings.

“Caleb is right that I have nothing to lose. But I have a lot to fight for too. I just announced yesterday that I’m gonna be a father for the first time. So I’m fighting for more than just myself.

“I’m going to listen to my corner, be disciplined and do whatever it takes to win. I know what I have to do in order to get the victory.

“The fight will show me how I have to approach Caleb. I have a lot of strategies past plan A. If I have to be in a brawl, I will. All that matters is that I get the win.

“He’s the toughest opponent of my life and that motivates me. I want to represent my people and give everyone a great show. I can’t wait for Saturday night.”

JERMALL CHARLO

“If he makes the wrong move, makes a miscalculation, or gets just a little too close, then I’m gonna knock his ass clean out.

“I feel the energy and the energy is great right now. I’m thankful to my whole team that’s stood by me. I’m ready to showcase my talent and give you all the old Jermall Charlo.

“Las Vegas is like a second home to me. I’ve got a lot of friends and family here and I’m happy to be back. There’s no other place like Las Vegas.

“I’m moving up to 168 because the competition is better. I’m not overlooking LaManna, but there are other fighters I can face in this division that would solidify my legacy. But right now I’m focused on getting wins and getting to the next level. I’m always learning and enjoying the sport.

“I don’t know if he’s trying to intimidate me. I wouldn’t expect nothing less than for him to be locked in. He knows who he’s up against.”

THOMAS LAMANNA

“This is my last opportunity at greatness. It’s been a long journey for me and now I get to test my skills against a two-division world champion. Come Saturday night, we’re gonna shock the world.

“I know the show is based around Caleb and Jermall, but I’m here to do my part. I’m gonna upset the apple cart. Let’s let these fights happen.

“I’m real locked in. I know what I’m up against, so I had to train my ass off. I’ve been training like that for six months.

“Every fighter when you turn pro wants to fight in Las Vegas. Seeing my picture on the billboards is an honor. It means everything to me.

“I’m gonna shock the world by any means. That’s the only thing we’re coming to do.”

YOENLI FELICIANO HERNANDEZ

“This is one of the biggest cards of the year and I can’t wait to perform. I’m here to win, there’s nothing else.

“I’m not gonna underestimate anybody. I’m ready for any challenge that comes my way. Let’s see what he’s capable of. I hope he can withstand what I’m bringing.

“I’m prepared for what’s coming my way. I’m excited to perform and show everyone what I’m capable of.

“There’s gonna be an easy knockout coming. I don’t know what round it’ll be in, but I know that I’m getting the knockout.”

KYRONE DAVIS

“I’m coming here to put on a show. I’m used to being in this position, so being the underdog is not a big deal to me.

“Hernandez is good and that’s what we wanted. We want to face the best and that’s what we’re gonna keep doing until I get my shot at the title. Enjoy the fireworks on Saturday night.

“What he’s talking about now doesn’t matter. If he has what it takes, he’ll have what it takes. I’ve faced a lot of great fighters. I know he’s gonna give it his all, but we’ll see if it’s enough.

“There is a lot that’s gonna go into me winning this fight. I don’t care about what he’s done or where he’s from. You don’t win fights on paper. All that matters is what happens when that bell rings.

ISAAC LUCERO

“I’m so excited that we were able to make this fight happen. I can’t wait for people to get to know what I’m capable of.

“I have prepared better than I ever have in my life for this fight, and I hope Omar is equally prepared so that we can give the fans the action they deserve. We’re coming to steal the show.

“There’s gonna be dynamite in the ring on Saturday night because I’m gonna knock this guy out. That’s what I’m coming to do.

“Bob Santos is such a pro and he’s instilled so many things in me both inside and outside of the gym. He preaches about how discipline is key and that’s something that I’ve loved to experience throughout training camp. I’m going to use that to win on Saturday.”

OMAR VALENZUELA

“I’m very thankful to be here and pumped up for this opportunity. I’m glad that everyone is going to see this great performance on Saturday night.

“Las Vegas has been home to many memorable bouts and you’re gonna get another one on Saturday. It’s gonna be two Mexican fighters going hand to hand until someone wins. He’s got nowhere to hide.

“We’re both gonna give it our all, but I’m gonna come out with my hand raised. There’s no doubt about it.

“I know that Lucero comes into the ring well prepared. I’m gonna face this challenge head on and be ready for whatever comes my way.”

TOM BROWN, President of TGB Promotions

“I’m really excited about this card. I’ve always said that I love promoting these events at Michelob ULTRA Arena. We’re thrilled to have this event on Prime Video, we’ve had a great partnership and will have more big fights announced coming up this summer.

“Make sure you get out to the arena early because we have a great card from top to bottom. This is a tremendous event, so make sure you get your tickets. It’s another great night in the Fight Capital of the World, Las Vegas, Nevada.”

PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

FRANK SMITH

Before we start, we have to say big congratulations to Eduardo ‘Sugar’ Nunez, the latest Mexican champion of the world. He’s been on the road firstly to Tajikistan and now to Japan to go and our next plan is to bring him back home to Mexico. It’s a brilliant achievement and we’re looking forward to more big nights with Sugar.

It’s always great to do these events in Mexico, we’ve been lucky enough over the last six years to stage lots of events in Mexico and they are some of the best shows we do. It’s our pleasure to be in Guadalajara and a huge thank you to all of our partners in this event as we head into Friday night, and a night that will deliver amazing entertainment as always.

MJ gets his opportunity in September to finally fight Inoue after waiting a long, long time for it. He’s a former unified World champion, he’s worked hard to get back into that position but on Friday, he cannot look past his opponent. Sometimes it’s difficult to be driven for these fights when you see what you have in the future, so for MJ he’s a pro and he knows he needs to be focused, get the job done and set himself to become undisputed against Inoue in Japan.

The main event, what a fight. You don’t see this that often in boxing where fighters jump straight back in there, so we have to show respect to both men. It was a great fight first time around and so often in the sport fights aren’t made. Khalil knows he’s got to go in there and win, but Manuel is going to have the confidence from the first fight. One thing from the first fight is that Khalil did not stop, even through the tough moments, and the first round of this fight will follow on from the ninth round of the first fight. Both guys are well prepared, they’ll be better than they were last time, and they know what the other man brings, so we’re excited, so don’t miss it live on DAZN.

MANUEL GALLEGOS

I really wanted this rematch as I think it is really important for us to show very clearly what we are able to do, so we’re delighted that we have this opportunity once again and I believe we’re going to show what we are made of.

I’m really happy that the rematch is in Mexico, I’ll have the support of the people here. It’s not taking place in Sinaloa, but I’m sure Guadalajara will be behind me. I’m really motivated to get my hand raised and the fact that we have Mexico behind me means we’ll be giving even more to go and get the victory.

KHALIL COE

I want to thank Manuel Gallegos for accepting the rematch and giving me the opportunity to win the belt back. We have made adjustments in camp, and I feel strong, I feel amazing honestly and I can’t wait to show the difference on Friday night.

Fighting in Mexico is fuel to me, I’ve been traveling all over the world in my career and fighting in different countries, and Friday will be no different.

This is a must-win for me. He’s a great opponent and in order for me to move forward I have to have that notch on my belt and beat the best opponents.

MURODJON AKHMADALIEV

I’m really happy to be here in Guadalajara and I’m ready to fight. Uzbek power is coming.

LUIS CASTILLO

I’ve not been resting since my last fight. I may not have had official fights, but I’ve been working hard in the gym and on my boxing. I have no fear in facing Akhmadaliev.

GABRIEL GOLLAZ VALENZUELA

It was a great experience I had against a really great fighter in Subriel Matias. I think I showed that I am made for that level. It was a final eliminator, and we showed that we are ready for that level and it’s a great sign in the way that we fought in that fight, and we want to get back to that again on that path to a World title.

We’ve worked really hard throughout this camp, I never underestimate any opponent, and we have not cut any corners whatsoever in our preparation. I learnt a great deal from the fight with Matias, and we’ve modified various things. I am coming into the fight with a renewed sense of purpose, I’m anxious, I cannot wait to get into the ring and we’re going to show what we are made of on Friday night.

ADRIAN CURIEL

You learn a lot in defeat. It’s difficult to swallow but I am not a bad loser, and I do feel that I’m very well prepared going into this fight, and why not have the dream of becoming a World champion once again.

I will not be overlooking my opponent on Friday and looking to the future, first we have to deal with Friday night. After that, what’s next will down to my management and promoters. Perhaps it’s a World title or a final eliminator for one, but first the work needs to be done on Friday.

Alycia Baumgardner vs. Jennifer Miranda: High-Stakes Showdown for WBA World Title

On July 11th, the legendary Madison Square Garden in New York City will host a women’s boxing clash that promises to leave its mark in the history books. Undisputed super featherweight queen Alycia Baumgardner will put her crown on the line against Spain’s rising star Jennifer Miranda — a challenger aiming to become the first undisputed champion in her country’s history.

Baumgardner, boasting a 15-1 record with 7 knockouts, has firmly established herself as one of the most dominant forces in the division. With explosive power and an aggressive style, she’s collected every major belt at 130 pounds — including the coveted WBA world title — solidifying her reign as the division’s top dog.

Standing across the ring will be the undefeated Jennifer Miranda (12-0, 1 KO), the current WBA interim champion. The fighter from Cádiz, Spain, brings technical skill, grit, and a nation’s hopes on her shoulders. A win over Baumgardner wouldn’t just be the upset of the year — it would etch her name in Spanish boxing history.

Expect fireworks. Baumgardner will rely on her punching power and big-fight experience, while Miranda looks to outbox and outlast the champ. With every belt on the line and legacy at stake, the bright lights of MSG are set for a truly historic night in women’s boxing.

Xander Zayas to Battle Jorge Garcia for WBO Jr. Middleweight Crown July 26 at The Theater at Madison Square Garden LIVE on ESPN

NEW YORK CITY (May 29, 2025) — At 16, Puerto Rican rising star Xander Zayas became Top Rank’s youngest signee. Now, at just 22, he’s ready to seize his first world title.

Zayas will take on upset-minded Mexican puncher Jorge Garcia for the vacant WBO junior middleweight world championship on Saturday, July 26, at The Theater at Madison Square Garden.

In the co-feature, Brooklyn native Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington and unbeaten Namibian Mateus Heita will collide for the WBC interim featherweight world title.

And, in the eight-round televised opener, Mexican American prospect Emiliano Fernando Vargas returns against Ecuador’s Alexander Espinoza in a junior welterweight showdown.

Zayas-Garcia, Carrington-Heita, and Vargas-Espinoza will be broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN Deportes, and ESPN+ at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Zanfer Boxing and Golden Boy Promotions, tickets go on sale Friday, June 6 at 12 p.m. ET and can be purchased via Ticketmaster.com.

“When we signed Xander at the age of 16, he was a teenager with all the potential in the world. He’s now an accomplished young contender with a tremendous opportunity to win his first world title,” said Top Rank Chairman Bob Arum. “Jorge Garcia has been impressive lately, and I expect an action-packed, dramatic main event at The Theater at Madison Square Garden.”

Zayas (21-0, 13 KOs) looks to become Puerto Rico’s next world champion almost six years after turning pro as a 17-year-old. He became a contender in August 2022 after knocking out Elias Espadas to win the NABO title. Zayas has made seven defenses of the NABO strap, including one-sided decisions over Damian Sosa and former world champion Patrick Teixeira in 2024. He kicked off his 2025 campaign in February with a savage ninth-round stoppage over German puncher Slawa Spomer. Zayas grew up idolizing Miguel Cotto, another Puerto Rican standout who turned pro under the Top Rank banner. Cotto won his first world title, the WBO junior welterweight strap, in September 2004. More than two decades later, Zayas looks to follow the lead of his boxing hero.

??”This is a dream I’ve worked hard for my entire life. I’ve got a good opponent in Jorge Garcia, a Mexican hungry to become a world champion,” Zayas said. “But I’m ready to raise the Puerto Rican flag high in victory and become a world champion at 22 years old. See you all on July 26.”

Garcia (33-4, 26 KOs) enters the assignment against Zayas riding an eight-fight winning streak, which began with a seventh-round knockout over then-unbeaten countryman Hector Andres Reyes in June 2023. During that streak, he has played the road warrior role, knocking out Angel Cruz Johnson in the Dominican Republic and Roarke Knapp in South Africa. In April, Garcia snatched the ‘0’ of the highly touted unbeaten U.S. Olympian Charles Conwell, securing a split decision over “Bad News” in Oceanside, California. The good news from the Conwell triumph was a WBO No. 2 ranking and a shot at the title.

“A lot of people thought I wasn’t going to win my last fight, but I scored a stunning upset,” said Garcia. “Even though I was the underdog, I shocked the world. This fight won’t be any different. Becoming a world champion is my dream, and I’m ready to make it come true on July 26 with a dominant win over Xander Zayas. Mexico will have a new champion this summer.”

Carrington (15-0, 9 KOs) has not found a long list of willing dance partners as he’s ascended the featherweight hierarchy. He’s ranked No. 1 by the WBC and WBO, No. 2 by the WBA, and No. 4 by the IBF, the result of several high-profile victories against seasoned veterans. Carrington went 4-0 in 2024, beginning the year in February with a highlight-reel stoppage of Bernard Torres and ending it with a shutout decision over Dana Coolwell on the Jake Paul-Mike Tyson bill. “Shu Shu” took out his frustration on Jose Enrique Vivas in March, becoming the first man to stop the Mexican pressure fighter. After knocking down Vivas in round two, Carrington ended the fight in the third.

“It’s always a thrill to fight in my city, and I can’t wait to bring the ‘Shu Shu Show’ back to The Theater at Madison Square Garden,” Carrington said. “The featherweight division is full of champions who have refused my challenge, so I credit Heida for accepting. That said, I will take out my frustration on him on July 26 and continue putting the division on notice.”

Heita (14-0, 9 KOs) is the latest hopeful from Namibia, a coastal African nation that has produced world champions Julius Indongo, Paulus Moses, and Paulus Ambunda in recent years. A stablemate of longtime contender Jeremia Nakathila, Heita turned pro as a junior featherweight in 2018, going 9-0 before moving up in weight. Last November, he stopped Tatenda Biningu in nine rounds to win the WBO Africa featherweight title. In April, Heita notched a one-sided 12-round decision over South Africa’s Abdulaziz Kunert.

“I’ve proven to the world that I’m a world-class boxer, and facing the best has always been my ambition because I believe I’m destined for greatness,” said Heita. “I see Bruce as just another obstacle to becoming a world champion. There’s nothing particularly special about him — he’s simply another challenge I will overcome.”

Vargas (14-0, 12 KOs), the youngest son of former world champion Fernando Vargas, has continued to live up to the family legacy since turning pro in 2022. The 20-year-old moved up to junior welterweight last year and went 4-0 with four knockouts, including brutal stoppages over Angel Varela, Jose Zaragoza, and Larry Fryers. In March, he kicked off his 2025 campaign with a highlight-reel second-round TKO against Giovannie Gonzalez. He returned five weeks later to stop Juan Leon in two on the Naoya Inoue-Ramon Cardenas undercard in May. Espinoza (20-3-1, 9 KOs) is an 11-year pro coming off back-to-back wins at home following a loss to Rogelio Jimenez last July.

“Like 50 Cent said, I run New York. All jokes aside, I’m ready to perform on the biggest stage and continue to win,” Vargas said. “Each fight is one step closer to becoming the world champion God called me to be.”

The ESPN+-streamed undercard is scheduled to include second-generation Puerto Rican star Juanmita Lopez De Jesus (2-0, 1 KO) and the pro debut of Team USA amateur sensation Julius ‘JuJu’ Ballo.

Lopez, the son of former two-weight world champion Juan Manuel “Juanma” Lopez, will return in a four-round junior bantamweight tilt against Jorge Gonzalez-Sanchez (5-2, 4 KOs). In April, the 19-year-old fought in his home country in his last outing, decisioning Malik Quinonez-Torres over four rounds.

Ballo, a decorated international amateur standout, will fight Brandan Ayala (2-0, 1 KO) in a four-round featherweight bout. The 22-year-old enters the paid ranks with an accomplished resume that includes wins over several of the nation’s elite.

Sampson Boxing Signs Openly Gay South American Boxer Oscar Bonifacino to Promotional Contract

May 29, 2025 – Promoter Sampson Lewkowicz proudly announces the signing of super featherweight prospect Oscar “La Bestia” Bonifacino, South America’s first openly gay male professional boxer.

Bonifacino (1-0, 1 KO), a 21-year-old from Maldonado on the Southern Coast of Uruguay, started boxing four years ago to escape the homophobic violence he was suffering and immediately began showing a talent for the sport.

“I had already been hurt a couple of times, and I was having problems on the street,” recalled Bonifacino. “Boxing was my way of channeling all my anger.”

Trained from the start by Coach Elizabeth Cabrera at Knockoutcentro Gym, Bonifacino is a counterpuncher with the ability to be explosive when needed. He made his successful professional debut last February with a second-round knockout over countryman Matias Agustin Gabrielli.

“Signing with Sampson was the best thing that could happen to me,” added Bonifacino. “Through my quest to be world champion, he can help my story reach all those who need it to be free and not judged. I fight for all those who at some point could not raise their voices and I will always be grateful to Sampson for giving me the opportunity.”

“I am very proud to be helping this young man fight for himself and for the bullied and oppressed people whose stories he knows only too well,” said Sampson Lewkowicz, known best for his ability to spot hidden fistic talent in uncommon places. “Oscar is a terrific role model for boxing with an incredible story of fighting your way out of hard times. I am proud to be his promoter.”

Bonifacino is currently in training camp in Montevideo, preparing for his next fight, on June 13, live on TyC Sports from Buenos Aires, Argentina, as part of the WBA’s Annual KO Drugs Festival.

FIGHTERS FIRST MANAGEMENT ADDS RISING CONTENDER DOMINIQUE FRANCIS TO GROWING STABLE

DALLAS – May 28, 2025 – Undefeated rising super featherweight Dominique “Trapp” Francis has become the latest rising star to join forces with Fighters First Management, adding another exciting blue-chip contender to the company’s growing roster of talent.

The 24-year-old Francis (16-0, 10 KOs) announced his contender status in his last outing, upsetting the previously undefeated Julio Carrera Lugo via a dominant fourth-round knockout last October. A native of Miami who represents his Haitian heritage in the ring, Francis is trained by renowned coach Derik Santos, along with his father Smith Francis, and will look to capitalize off the momentum from his most recent victory with the help of Fighters First.

“I’m very grateful for this opportunity to sign with Fighters First Management,” said Francis, who will be returning to the ring this summer. “I’m ready to take my career to the next level with the right team behind me.”

Fighters First President Jolene Mizzone and CEO Adrian Clark each expressed their belief in Francis’ long-term prospects as he joins the company that helped guide reigning WBO Welterweight World Champion Brian Norman to championship gold.

“When I first started talking to Dominique, his father and Derik Santos, I knew that Dom had the ‘It’ factor, not only in the ring, but outside of it,” said Mizzone. “He has a great team already and I look forward to joining them and going on this ride together.”

“I’m looking forward to Dominique showing his talents inside and outside the ring,” said Clark. “We’re glad to have him in the Fighters First family and excited about what’s to come.”

Francis turned pro in 2019 following an impressive amateur career that included a championship-winning performance at the 2016 USA Junior Olympics and a run to the final of the 2017 USA Youth Open Tournament. Despite turning pro as a teenager, Francis delivered stoppages in six of his first seven outings and has since shown his ability to compete in the later rounds, winning 10 round decisions in August 2022 and June 2023.

Having recently spent time in the gym working alongside boxing superstar Terence Crawford, Francis believes he is putting together the experience that will eventually help him reach his superstar potential.

“It was a pleasure sharing gym time with a champion like Crawford,” said Francis. “Watching his moves and preparation was a tremendous learning moment. We chopped it up a bit and I definitely picked up some knowledge being around that level of greatness.”

Hall of Fame Boxing Promoter Don King Wins $1.1 Million Purse Bid To Promote WBA Regular Heavyweight World Champion Kubrat Pulev Facing No. 2 Contender Michael Hunter On August 23

MIAMI (May 28, 2025)—Hall of Fame Boxing Promoter Don King has won a $1.1 million purse bid from the WBA for the right to promote a world title fight featuring current WBA (Regular) Heavyweight World Champion Kubrat “The Cobra” Pulev facing WBA No. 2 contender Michael “The Bounty” Hunter on Saturday, August 23 at a site to be determined.

It will be a true week of celebration during Fight Week as King will be celebrating his 94th birthday on August 20. King said the location for the fight will be determined at a later date with Florida, Las Vegas, Ohio and Pennsylvania among the potential sites.

Fighting in his hometown of Sofia, Bulgaria, the crowd-favorite 44-year-old Pulev (32-3, 14 KOs) won the WBA (Regular) World Championship with his 12-round unanimous decision win over Mahmoud Charr last December.

The Southern California native Hunter (24-1-2, 17 KOs) won the vacant WBA Gold Heavyweight Title in June taking out Cassius Chaney in a 12-round unanimous decision at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Fla. In his last fight in December, Hunter registered a fifth-round TKO over Christian Larrondo Garcia in Mexico. Hunter’s only career setback came back in 2017 when he lost a unanimous 12-round decision to current Oleksandr Usyk, who in December beat Tyson Fury to become just the third boxer to become an undisputed world champion in the two weight divisions in the “four-belt era”.

Super middleweight division to open up, Darius Fulghum plans to make his move

LOS ANGELES (May 28, 2025) – So much is on the line Friday night when undefeated Darius “DFG” Fulgham (14-0, 12 KOs) takes on Bektemir “Bully” Melikuziev (15-1, 10 KOs) in what amounts to a World Boxing Association (WBA) super middleweight world title eliminator at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.

“There is going to be separation in the super middleweight division,” Fulghum explained. “(WBA Interim Champion Caleb) Plant fights the day after my fight in Las Vegas, but ‘Canelo’ (Alvarez) holds all the cards.”

The key question, however, is how long Alvarez will maintain complete control of the division?

Undisputed Super Middleweight World Champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (69-22, 39 KOs) rules the 168-pound division and the 34-year-old, who has been a professional boxer since 2005, now only fights twice a year to celebrate Cinco de Mayo (May) and Mexican Independence Day (September) weekends. Boxing’s ultimate rainmaker reportedly signed a four-fight agreement with Riyadh Season, which kicked off May 4 with a dominant 12-round unanimous decision over previously undefeated William Scull (23-1, 9 KOs). Canelo has a mega-fight set versus another future Hall of Famer, Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs), on September 12 in Las Vegas. If “Canelo” completes his Riyadh Season deal, the Mexican will only be left with two more required fights in 2025.

Even if he doesn’t retire after the Crawford fight, “Canelo” will still have four mandatory defenses to make or be stripped of his titles. The winner of Fulghum vs. Melikuziev will position himself as a leading WBA world contender, if not its mandatory challenger.

The only super middleweights rated higher by the WBA than No. 3 Melikuziev and No. 4 Fulghum are Plant (23-2, 14 KOs), No. 1 Christian Mbilli (27-0, 23 KOs), and No. 2 Lester Martinez (19-0, 18 KOs), of Guatemala.

Plant is fighting WBA No. 15 Jose Armando Resendiz (15-2, 11 KOs) the day after Melikuziev vs. Fulghum, also in Las Vegas, on the same card as former world champion Jermall Charlo (33-0, 22 KOs) vs. Thomas LaManna (39-5-1, 18 KOs). Plant vs. Charlo, assuming both are victorious, are rumored to be on a collision course for their next fights.

Mbilli, a French Olympian living in Canada, will be dropped from his No. 1 WBA ranking when he faces World Boxing Council (WBA) Interim Super Middleweight Champion Maciej Sulecki (33-3, 13 KOs) on June 27th, in their title fight for the vacant WBC Super Middleweight Championship in Quebec City.

“This eliminator sets-up everything for me and I’m all business,” Fulghum said. “I won’t make it anything more than it is because each fight I’ve had was extra important; I wouldn’t be here if I had lost any of my fights. There’s no added pressure because this is an eliminator and there will be a lot more to come after this Friday night.”

The 28-year-old Fulghum, fighting out of Houston, has his fight against Melikuziev, the 2016 Olympic silver medalist from Uzbekistan, in its proper perspective.

“This eliminator sets-up everything for me and I’m all business,” Fulghum said. “But I won’t make it anything more than it is because each fight I’ve had were extra important; I wouldn’t be here if I had lost any of my fights. There’s no added pressure because this is an eliminator because there will be a lot more to come after this Friday night.”

Fulghum was a decorated amateur boxer who was ranked No. 1 in the USA as a heavyweight, but as a professional he’s fought strictly as a super middleweight. He was the 2018 National Golden Gloves Tournament Champion, and he also won the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Somehow, he accomplished this while he was earning a nursing degree from Prairie View A & M University during COVID-19.

Fulghum is working with 3 Point Management (3 PM), which has a growing stable of gifted boxers including WBA & WBO Cruiserweight World Champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (47-1, 30 KOs), WBO No. 1/WBA No. 2-rated world super flyweight title challenger John “Scrappy” Ramirez (14-1, 9 KOs), former world heavyweight champion/WBC No. 4-rated Oleksandr “Nails” Gvozdyk (21-2, 17 KOs), former WBA Inter-Continental Light Heavyweight Champion Kareem “Supreme” Hackett (12-1, 6 KOs) and German junior welterweight Simon “Saucy” Vollmer (6-0, 2 KOs).

Jermall Charlo Returns to the Ring Against LaManna for WBA Regional Strap

After nearly two years away from the ring, Jermall Charlo is back — and he’s coming in with something to prove. The former two-division world champion will face Thomas LaManna this Saturday, May 31, at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas, with the WBA Continental Americas super middleweight title on the line.

Charlo (33-0, 22 KOs) hasn’t fought since November 2023, when he outpointed José Benavidez Jr. in a dominant unanimous decision. Now, he’s jumping up in weight and eyeing a third world title — but after a long layoff, questions remain about his timing, sharpness, and whether he can still impose his will at a higher weight class.

LaManna (39-5-1, 18 KOs), meanwhile, has stayed busy and comes into this fight with confidence. The New Jersey native scored a knockout win over Noé Alejandro López in February and knows this is his shot to crash the elite ranks. He may not be the oddsmakers’ favorite, but LaManna’s experience and recent activity could play a key role in shaking up the narrative.

The WBA Continental Americas belt is up for grabs, but more than that, this fight marks a crucial turning point for Charlo. Is the talent still there? Has the fire endured through his time away? Or will LaManna seize the moment with a surprise upset and rewrite his own story?

It’s a classic clash of styles, timing, and trajectory — and fans will be watching closely to see which man rises to the occasion under the bright lights of Vegas.

GARNER VS BELLOTTI LAUNCH PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

A multitude of super featherweight belts will be up for grabs in Bournemouth on 26 July when the BIC plays host to a cracking 130lbs double header, with Ryan Garner going up against Reece Bellotti and Royston Barney-Smith taking on Danny Quartermaine.

All four super featherweights were present at the home of Southampton FC this afternoon for the opening media activity and below are a selection of key quotes from the event.

Ryan Garner
“Obviously every British boxer wants to win the British title and he has got the Commonwealth as well, while I’ve got the European. I want to make history, I don’t believe anyone from Southampton has ever won the British, Commonwealth and European titles at the same time. I am under no illusions, this is the biggest fight of my career, amateur or pro, and I know Reece is a very, very good fighter.

“He has got all my respect and, yeah, there will be fireworks on fight night. Be sure not to miss it.

“His record as a puncher speaks for itself. He’s had nearly as many knockouts as I have had fights. So he is a big puncher and I know that, but I know that if the Ryan Garner who I know is capable turns up, I know that I can come away with the win, but it will be the hardest fight of my career.

“It is just going to be an exciting fight and I am looking forward to it and putting on a good show. I just think what I am capable of is more than enough to win, but it will be a tough fight.”

Reece Bellotti
“This moment is massive and it is definitely the biggest in my career too. Unfortunately for viewers, there is not going to be a huge amount of beef between me and Garner because we respect each other and where we are in our careers.

“I expect the hardest fight of my career, also, and I will train accordingly. I am in good form, I feel good and moving up in weight has massively helped me. I am just looking forward to the fight.

“For me Ryan is definitely up there. I know people will look at Ray Ford because he was a world champion, but there is no reason why I can’t win a world title and also Ryan. Every time I get in there I view it as the hardest by far and Ryan is up there for me.

“I don’t really use power anymore as a factor for me because I learned the hard way before doing that when I got beat. I just relied on it and thought it was the only thing I needed. There is a lot more to the game and I have learned that now. I am not just a one-trick pony now and that will pay dividends on the night.”

Royston Barney-Smith
“I have been trying to get one of these fights for a long time now and, thankfully, Danny has allowed me to fight for his two belts and they do look very nice over there. I am coming for them. He is a champion, he is going to come and defend his belts, so I will rise to the occasion and do the job.

“He is an aggressive fighter and he does a good job at it, a great job. I am looking forward to exploit him in ways I know I can and I know I will.”

Danny Quartermaine
“Royston came and approached me about the fight in a very respectful manner. With the way he did it I thought why not give him that opportunity? Boxing is about opportunities and I am more than willing to put my belts on the line and fight a good level of opponent.

“People have seen me in the past coming forward, being aggressive and putting it on my opponent. In the last couple of fights I think you have actually seen me box as well. I’ve got a jab in my repertoire and I do use it when I can. I think the mix of styles could be very interesting or, as you saw at the weekend, it could be boring. I don’t think it will be one of those fights between me and Royston, I think it will gain the crowd’s attention and there is a lot to fight for.”

CATTERALL VS. EUBANK + UNDERCARD LAUNCH PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

Jack Catterall:

“147 lbs. I find myself in a position now where I can make 140 lbs, obviously the natural step would be to go to 147. It’s got to be the right fight. If the right fights come at 140 in the future then we’ll consider that. Me and Harlem spoke before. I think he was only fighting at 140 around two or three fights ago. When it got proposed at Welterweight, it did me a favour.

“It’s a blessing and a privilege to be able to come back to Manchester and headline. Thank you DAZN and Matchroom Boxing for that. I find myself in a position where my back is against the wall coming off a defeat. I’ve been working on myself since the fight. I took myself to America to do a lot of sparring. I’ve come home and I knuckled down to training.

“When the phone rang and they presented Harlem, it was a yes. It’s always been a yes. I’ve never turned down any fights. What excites me about this fight is the domestic fights. They’re the fights that, throughout my career, I’ve probably performed my best. The pressure is on but I think I thrive under the pressure. Coming off a defeat I’ve got to go in there and perform and prove that I belong at this level.”

Harlem Eubank:

“This is the opportunity that I’ve been training for since I came into the sport. I came in because I want to become World Champion. Jack is a world class operator. He’s proven it time and time again. Now is my opportunity to go in there and show people I’m ready to win a World Title. Jack is the type of fighter I need to overcome to fulfil my ambitions in the sport. We’re prepared, we’re ready. We know how good Jack is. This fight isn’t about how good Jack is. This is about how good I am, and I’m ready to show the world.

“This is the time the fight was meant to happen. I believe that Jack is in the best form of his life. He’s just coming off defeat at the highest level. As he said, he’s taken himself out to America, we’re going to see the best version of Jack Catterall in there on July 5th, and that’s the man that I’m ready to overcome.”

Frank Smith, Matchroom Boxing CEO:

“We’ve had a great run in Manchester in recent times, obviously led by Jack Catterall. Years before that as well, William Crolla’s brother Anthony was the man who was selling out this arena back day as well. It’s exciting to be back in Manchester – a real fighting community and somewhere we love to come. A lot of these fighters up on the top table will look to become those stars of tomorrow.

“I think this is a tremendous main event. Domestic fights are what people buy into. It’s the kind of fight that we need to make to keep the sport building in the UK. It’s great to be working with Nisse Sauerland and Wasserman Boxing as always. When we spoke about this fight, there were discussions with everyone around whether this was the right route to go, and within two or three days it was made. That doesn’t always happen in boxing, as we know. This was a fight both guys wanted. It’s a great fight for both guys. I think it’s the perfect fight for both of them. I’m excited for it.

“I think everyone was after Leo Atang. Every promoter in British boxing, and in world boxing, was interested in signing Leo. He’s 18 years old; he needs time to develop but we believe we can do that. We’ve done it before, and we can take him all the way. He’s got all of the strengths that are needed to get to the top of this sport. We’re excited to be part of that journey. This is a journey that is going to last for the next 15 years. We’ve done it time and time again, and this will be another story in the Matchroom journey with a young fighter in Leo Atang that goes all the way. We’re excited to get started with him and looking forward to July 5th.”

Nisse Sauerland, Wasserman Boxing:

“Jack has got it all to lose. Harlem is coming in here, it’s his first world class step up. Obviously he’s coming off his great victory over Tyrone McKenna. He looked a million dollars. Where does he go? Do we do another McKenna fight? Around that level. Or do we go for the big boys? Props to both men. I didn’t expect Harlem to accept it so quickly. Jack, if he loses, it’s not the greatest position for him, coming off the back of a couple of losses in a row. Props to both guys for taking it. Harlem, I believe, can go all the way. Obviously Jack is in the way now. I do think he has the skills to beat Jack. I see this as a bit of a Froch-Kessler fight. Two gentlemen. They’re going to take it very very serious. Two warriors. No trash talking needed. I think the fight will sell itself. I do think Harlem will win. The time is right for us. The time is right for Harlem. Charlie believes he is ready, so I’ve got to put my trust in the fighter.”

Jamie Moore, Catterall’s trainer:

“Jack’s work ethic and his commitment to the sport is like something I’ve never seen. As you would expect, after you first loss, he had a good rest – he needed a good rest – because that was the most active he’d been for years. Two of those camps were extended, which meant they were longer than you’d want. There was a little bit of fatigue there and I feel like the rest has done him the world of good. His attitude has always been bulletproof. He’s always been that one track mind type of fighter. It’s not an easy fight, but at 31-years-old coming into his peak years he doesn’t want to be looking backwards and getting an easier fight. People have questioned whether Harlem is going to be able to make this step up, but at some point in your career you have to take that step up. You either sink or swim. In my opinion, Jack Catterall will beat him because he’s too good.”

Charlie Beatt, Eubank’s trainer:

“This is a great fight for Harlem. Both of these young men I think should be commended for the way that they conduct themselves in and out of the ring. I think it’s going to be a fantastic fight. I just believe that Harlem has got the speed, the power and the tenacity to beat Jack Catterall.”

Sam Jones, Catterall’s manager:

“First of all, it really is a brilliant fight. We want to give people fights that the British people care about. The British public will care about this fight because it’s a domestic fight, they’re the best fights. Credit to Harlem for taking the fight. It’s a big step up for him. It’s a monumental step up. I don’t believe he is going to be ready for the task. I think it’s going to be all too much for him. Jack and Harlem both have a responsibility to make this a good fight. Harlem has just watched his cousin take part in one of the best fights I have ever seen. He’s under immense pressure as well.”

Jamie Conlan, Eubank’s manager:

“It’s a fight that Harlem has been asking for for a while. Jack has been to the top. It’s a massive opportunity for him to test himself. It’s the hardest fight you could pick in the division in Britain. There’s a lot of pressure on the line for Jack because I think he’s coming off a big loss to Barboza. Back to back losses are hard on the career. It’s a fantastic fight. That’s where you’ll see the best of Jack Catterall and the best of Harlem Eubank. It’s a massive opportunity for Harlem to really get into the world stage and to put his name in the big lights and the big fights. He has momentum on his side. Brighton really building something, especially with Channel 5 and Wasserman. I think it’s a fantastic clash of styles.”

Pat Brown:

“It was a night to remember. It’s what I dreamt of as a kid. I walked past the Ice Rink so many times as a kid. I used to go there skating as a kid, whereas now I look at it thinking over 1,000 people came to watch my pro debut. I said I didn’t want an opponent that was going to come and just tuck up and go down. Grandone came to win and he wanted to rock the boat. That’s what we trained for. The gym is thriving. Dave is coming off a really good win against Fisher. We’re all just bouncing off each other. We always train hard, nobody is slacking. It’s just keeping ready at all times and having a bit of fun as well. It’s what every fighter wants, they want activity. I’ve got the June 21st fight in Birmingham as well. You can’t underestimate anyone. Whoever I’m fighting in Birmingham, I need to be fully tunnel vision for and get the job done. Then we’ll roll into this one. I’ll bring a big crowd and it’ll go off.”

William Crolla:

“Last fight done me a world of good. He’s a tough kid him and he’s upset the applecart a few times. You give him notice, and he’ll upset the applecart. He’s a good lad as well. Like you say, July 5th, another step up to eight rounds, another good opponent in Frazer Wilkinson. I think this is a fight that really suits me, a fight that will bring out the best in me, a fight that I believe I will take him out in. It was different, in the first round everything was going to round; I was landing big and I believe I hurt him a few times in the first. He had a great chin. It was different. It was a great learning fight. I took loads from that fight. I’ve shown I can box on the backfoot. I’m not just this one trick pony who can blast people out. I was switch hitting nice, mixing it up. I believe it was a great performance. It’s set me in great stead for this fight. He seems a fit lad, he comes for it and throws a lot. I’ve always said it, when people come to try and beat me, that’s when you’ll see the best of me. July 5th I’ll turn up and do a job on Frazer Wilkinson.”

Aqib Fiaz:

“I feel like last time was a good performance. I’ve matured so much since the Reece Bellotti fight. I was only 23 at the time. Now is a bad time to be fighting me. I’m excited to get this fight, I cannot wait for July 5th. I feel like he’s made a mistake. This is going to be a big performance from me. I can’t wait to get in there and show him that he’s made a real bad mistake. He wasn’t taking the fight regardless a couple of weeks ago, no matter what weight it was. There’s always pressure to win every fight. I’ve got to win this fight and I’ve got to look good in doing so to get my name back out there with the likes of Bellotti and Garner. A good performance here will put me in good stead for fights like that. I’m going to go through him.”

Michael Gomez Jr:

“It was a weird one mate. I just didn’t turn up (against Reece Bellotti). No reasons why, I just didn’t turn up. When there’s no reasons as to why you don’t turn up, there’s no answers. I said to my team, for me to get back in, it needs to be a big fight. A Manchester derby in Manchester; what more can you ask for? I actually think he’s a decent fighter to be fair. He just likes to play up. It’s going to come down to who wants it more. It’s a fight where I think we both have to win. I think the loser is pretty much screwed. I’m not ready to let go of these big nights just yet. Absolutely not mate, and I think that’s what is going to get me over the line.”

Leo Atang:

“It’s something you watch as a kid growing up. Seeing all of the press conferences and all of the weigh-ins. Now that I’m actually doing it, it’s definitely becoming real. Now was the right time to turn professional because I want to make up for the loss of activity as an amateur. I wasn’t going to be fighting for nearly over a year. I just wanted to be in there, learn on the job and eventually it’ll pay dividends in the future. I want to be Heavyweight World Champion one day. Tune in for a good performance, and a little knockout to finish.”

Alfie Middlemiss:

“I’m just loving it. I’m taking it all in my stride. 3-0 already and back on a massive card. What a great stage for me to go and showcase my skills. I’m looking to put on a statement performance on July 5th. The gym is thriving at the minute and I’m just soaking it up, being like a sponge in the gym. There’s world class fighters and fighters at different levels. I’m just enjoying it, learning as much as I can. I’m going to put it in the ring on July 5th and put on a great performance.”

This Friday night, the spotlight will shine on the super middleweight division as rising contenders Darius Fulghum and Bektemir Melikuziev square off in a pivotal WBA eliminator at The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas — a bout loaded with implications for the championship picture.

Tajikistan’s Usmonov Crowned WBA Gold Lightweight Champion

The World Boxing Association (WBA) congratulates Tajikistan’s Bakhodur Usmonov on his outstanding performance this Friday, May 23, in Dushanbe, where he captured the WBA Gold Lightweight Title with a third-round knockout over Filipino southpaw Albert Pagara.

The bout headlined the sixth edition of IBA Pro, held at the Tennis and Water Polo Palace in the capital city of Tajikistan, and was broadcast live via the IBA Boxing YouTube channel. Scheduled for ten rounds, the contest marked a significant step in Usmonov’s professional career.

Usmonov, a 2023 IBA World Championship medalist, displayed skill and composure from the outset. After an evenly matched opening round, the Tajik fighter began to assert his dominance in the second, utilizing his reach and punching power to shift momentum clearly in his favor.

In the third round, Usmonov increased the pressure. Despite a valiant effort from the experienced Pagara, the damage accumulated quickly. With only 15 seconds remaining in the round, Usmonov unleashed a decisive combination that resulted in a knockdown and prompted the referee to stop the contest, declaring Usmonov the winner by technical knockout.

This victory marks Usmonov’s second win of the year, following a third-round stoppage over Uzbekistan’s Nodirbek Soyibov in March. He now holds a professional record of 10 wins, 0 losses, with 5 of those victories coming by knockout, and boasts a 50% KO ratio.

Within the IBA Pro platform, Usmonov remains undefeated, with prior wins including a unanimous decision over Venezuela’s Luis Arcón in August 2023 and a February 2024 decision against Azerbaijan’s Javid Chalabiyev.

At 27 years of age, Bakhodur Usmonov continues to demonstrate his growth and potential in the lightweight division. With the WBA Gold belt now around his waist, he takes an important step toward greater opportunities on the international stage.

The WBA commends both fighters for their professionalism and sportsmanship and looks forward to Usmonov’s continued success in future title defenses and global competition.

Wang Captures WBA Asia  title with TKO victory in Wenshan

China’s DeKang Wang claimed the WBA Asia Super Bantamweight title this Saturday with an impressive technical knockout victory over Argentina’s Giuliano Fantone. The bout, held in Wenshan, showcased Wang’s speed, power, and growing presence in the 122-pound division.

From the opening round, Wang established control with sharp combinations and relentless pressure. His aggressive style left little room for Fantone to respond, and as the rounds progressed, Wang’s dominance became increasingly clear.

In the fourth round, the Chinese fighter delivered a precise and powerful combination that left Fantone visibly hurt. Recognizing the mounting damage, the referee intervened and stopped the contest, declaring Wang the winner by technical knockout.

With this victory, Wang adds a regional title to his record and continues to rise within the super bantamweight rankings. His performance underlined his potential as a future contender on the international stage.

For Fantone, the loss marks a difficult moment in his career, though his resilience throughout the early rounds showed his determination. He is expected to regroup and return stronger in upcoming bouts.

Wang’s triumph was celebrated by his team and local supporters, as the Chinese boxer moves one step closer to the elite level of the sport. His power and precision make him a dangerous presence in the division and a name to watch in the coming months.

SALITA PROMOTIONS ANNOUNCES TWO HIGH-STAKES SUPPORTING BOUTS FOR CLARESSA SHIELDS’ UNDISPUTED HEAVYWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP EVENT

DETROIT (May 23, 2025) – Salita Promotions today announced two high-level supporting bouts for Claressa Shields’ Undisputed Heavyweight World Championship event taking place on Saturday, July 26 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, airing live on DAZN, the global home of boxing. Undefeated Samantha Worthington and France’s Caroline Veyre, both rising world title contenders have been added to the card in separate and significant bouts.

The GWOAT, Claressa Shields (16-0, 3 KOs), will return home when she puts her undefeated record and Undisputed Heavyweight World Championship on the line in the main event against the reigning IBF Light Heavyweight World Champion from New Zealand, Lani Daniels (11-2-2, 1 KO).

Worthington (11-0, 7 KOs), who is co-promoted by Shields’ T-Rex Promotions and Salita Promotions, looks to take one step closer to achieving her world title dream when she collides with France’s Victoire Piteau (14-2, 2 KOs) for the WBA Jr. Welterweight Women’s Interim World Title. An undeniable rising star under the Salita Promotions banner, Kentucky’s Worthington has passed every test in the ring impressively. Stringing together three statement victories in the past year, Worthington has earned the interim title opportunity in a division that features superstars Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano.

Opposite Worthington, Piteau competes for a spot atop the star-studded 140-pound division. On the strength of five straight victories, Piteau will fight for the first time in the U.S. in a pivotal matchup against Worthington on July 26. The winner of this bout will be in line to face the winner of Taylor vs. Serrano III taking place earlier that month.

“I believe with all my heart that Jesus created me for this very moment,” said Worthington. “Stepping into the ring to fight for the WBA Interim World Championship isn’t just a career milestone—it’s part of my purpose and an opportunity I am extremely grateful for. I feel so confident that I’m more than ready to make a statement at this level, and that statement will be made in the ring July 26, at Little Caesar’s Arena. The super lightweight division isn’t ready for ‘The Heat’ and I’m about to show exactly why I belong at the top.”

“My ambition is to conquer the most prestigious fights and win the most iconic titles in the world of boxing,” said Piteau. “To get there, I will give everything—my strength, my courage, and my unwavering determination. I can’t wait to fight in the United States against Samantha Worthington. From now on, I continue writing my story in the United States, ready to win with heart, fierce determination, and the utmost respect for this sport.”

“Samantha Worthington is one of the most exciting junior welterweights in the world today,” said Dmitriy Salita, President of Salita Promotions. “With a decorated amateur pedigree, an undefeated professional record, and the backing of co-promoter Claressa Shields, she represents the next wave of American boxing talent. From rising through the ranks of USA Boxing to now competing for her first title on one of the year’s biggest stages—Samantha is on a fast track to greatness. It’s only a matter of time before she follows in Claressa’s footsteps and becomes an undisputed world champion.”

The reigning WBC International Women’s Featherweight champion, Caroline Veyre (9-1), who fights out of Montreal, steps into the ring for the second time this year when she faces France’s Licia Boudersa (23-3-2, 4 KOs) in a WBC Women’s Featherweight World Title Eliminator. Signing with Salita Promotions in 2024, Veyre has proven to be one of the most dangerous contenders in the featherweight division. On the heels of two dominant unanimous decision victories in back-to-back fights, Veyre prepares to take the next step towards WBC gold against the battle-tested Boudersa. The 32 year old makes her promotional debut for Salita following a closely contested loss to Beatriz Ferreira for the IBF Lightweight World Title last year. Boasting championship experience, Boudersa stands as a stiff test for the surging Veyre.

“Caroline Veyre is, without question, one of the most technically brilliant boxers in women’s boxing today,” said Salita. “Her smooth, textbook style and exceptional ring IQ make watching her a true showcase of the sport at its highest level. I have no doubt she’s on the path to becoming a world champion and a fixture on the pound-for-pound list.”
