Here is what the press conference participants had to say Thursday from MGM Grand in Las Vegas:
DAVID BENAVIDEZ
“First of all, I want to give the thanks to God, because without him, none of this is possible. I want to give a big shout out to Zurdo Ramirez, Sampson Lewkowicz, Al Heymon, Luis DeCubas Jr., PBC and Golden Boy.
“I’m very excited for this. I’ve been training extremely hard. I got five months training in this training camp because I knew Zurdo Ramirez is a great fighter. He’s a great champion. We did a lot of rounds with him back then, and I know he’s gonna come to fight, you know, big respects to all these guys over here.
“With that being said, it’s time to go to war. And when David Benavidez goes to war, he doesn’t shy away from anything. When I see the fire, I put myself in the fire to get the best version out of myself, and I’m not scared of nobody. ?
“You guys will see what the Mexican Monster is made of this May 2. Thank you so much.”
David, you’re going into this fight, you just spoke about how you both have had experiences over the years. You helped get him ready for several fights. You talked about the legendary sparring sessions. Obviously, I’m sure you guys are both very different fighters from the moments you had those firing sessions, but is there anything that you take away from those sessions, going into this fight?
“Yes, I definitely took a lot away from those more sessions, you know? But, you know what? If that gets thrown out the window, I’m gonna be ready to deal with anything that comes my way. That’s what comes with being a great champion. At the end of the day, it’s going to be a great fight, and everybody who’s watching is going to get the money’s worth.”
This is a very special week, and you’ve talked about, you’ve wanted that mantle to be the face of boxing, and now you are headlining your first Cinco de Mayo weekend. Talk about how special is it, because we know in boxing’s history books, how important this weekend is.
“It is definitely really important, and I think just both of us having a fight on Cinco de Mayo weekend is something that we’ve been both working for a long, long time for. We’re both blessed, you know what I mean? We both knew we were gonna get this fight back then, and this is both of our first times fighting on Cinco de Mayo weekend, so we both did our jobs. He captured titles and cruiserweight. I captured titles and light heavyweight and it was just perfect timing. I’m just very excited to be here. I’m very excited to headline, my first Cinco de Mayo with my friend Zurdo Ramirez.”
David, how does becoming a three-division world champion feel? What would that mean to your legacy?
“That just catapults me into the same category as the Greats. You know, it’s very hard to become world champion. It’s very hard to become world champion in two weight classes. So, three weight classes would put me in the same conversations as the greats. At the end of the day, um, I want to keep giving the fans what they want to see, the best fights, and keep winning world titles to solidify my legacy.”
GILBERTO “ZURDO” RAMIREZ
“I’m blessed to be here. Thank you, Team Benavidez. Thank you, Golden Boy. Don’t miss the fight. We will represent really well this weekend.”
Zurdo, Benavidez is making this move up 25 pounds to go to the cruiserweight limit. Do you believe he is taking on more than he should be fighting you?
“No, I think he’s ready for the division. That’s why he moved up.”
Obviously, you’re the champion. He’s the one coming up in weight, but the odds show, you’re the underdog. Do you feel a little disrespected by that, or what’s your thoughts going into this fight where the odds have you as the underdog?
“I’m the champ. I don’t feel disrespect. I just train hard to put a great show to prove myself and prepare to be still champion.”
David has said he is going to test your body. He’s going to test your chin, and he’s gonna test your soul. How do you respond to that?
“He will try, and I will try, I will do it, too. Saturday, everyone will see us.”
ARMANDO RESENDIZ
“I want to thank my team, my coach, Manny Robles, my manager, Jesse Rodriguez and everybody that made it possible for me to be as prepared as I am for May 2, even through the tough training sessions, and tough sparring that I go through.
There’s gonna be a war on May 2. I guarantee you that. It’s gonna be a great show and, God willing, I’m gonna come out with a win as well.”
Armando, you have said you have much respect for Mungia. Do you feel an obligation, with both of you being Mexicans from the Pacific Coast, to deliver a show here on Cinco de Mayo weekend?
“Absolutely it’s a big responsibility, the commitment on my part, to be able to give the fans the kind of show that they deserve. And that’s what’s going to happen on Saturday night.”
You obviously came away with one of the biggest upsets last year as the world champion with the huge upset, defeating former champion, Caleb Plant. How do you prove to everyone that wasn’t just a one-night performance, and that you are here to stay at the top of the division?
“I know they think that. It’s about putting in the work. God willing, we’re able to go out there, execute the game plan, and with that discipline, be able to come out with a win, simple as that.”
JAIME MUNGUIA
“Thank you for being here. I want to thank God for this opportunity, and I’m blessed to have the support of the Team Canelo, Eddie Reynoso and my father, who is also here.
“What I can tell you is that Tijuana is gonna have a new world champion this Saturday night, and it’s gonna be an amazing fight.”
Jaime, you are someone that has encountered adversity, and you came out the other end victorious. You bounced back from your loss to Bruno Sarace, and you rectified that last year with the decision. When you said yesterday that we’re going to see a new Jaime Munguia.
“I’ve gotten over the hump. To be honest with you, when I had that rematch (with Sarace), I was nervous because it was the uncertainty of not knowing what could happen. But now I’m renewed. The toughest part is over, and I’m ready to show you this new facet of mine.”
What challenges does Resendiz present to you?
“It’s certainly a really big challenge against a young, hungry fighter just like me. And I respect that a lot. So, what I want is for us to be able to give the fans the fight that they deserve. And that’s what I’m looking for.”
OSCAR DUARTE
“I’m so thankful to be here standing in front of all of you. I think this is gonna be possibly the card of the year, because it’s that outstanding. The fans are gonna be the real winners of the night because we’re all gonna put on a show.
“I couldn’t help but think about how far I’ve come from the tough training sessions that I’ve had, the way that we train so well with Robert Garcia, having to cut weight, and everything we had to do in order to be in optimal condition for this fight. Now, it’s just time to give the fans the show that they deserve, to be ready for May 2, and I’m blessed to do it.”
Oscar, what is Fierro going to find out when he steps into the ring with you Saturday night?
“I’m pumped up, because Angel is someone that likes to brawl and is someone who represents a really good fight. I’m excited for that, but I’m only relying on myself, really, because I know I had a great preparation. In fact, this training camp was preceded by the one I had before, when the fight was postponed, so I couldn’t be more ready. I’m ready to show who I am.”
ANGEL FIERRO
“Thank you so much for being here. I want to thank God for the opportunity. Also, thanks to PBC, my team, everybody that made it happen.
“What I can tell you is that I’m here to be better than ever and to come out with the win on Saturday, to clean up my name and put Tijuana’s name on the very top. You’re gonna see a show on Saturday night. Let’s go Tijuana!”
Angel, you have a tremendous opportunity in front of you, fighting Duarte. What do you need to do in order to be the man that has his hands raised in T Mobile Arena May Cycle?
“It’s just about being able to show that I’m up to the task. People have seen the good and the bad from me, so all I have to do is be able to make weight tomorrow, then go after it in the fight. God willing, I’m going to be able to bring the win back to Tijuana.”
JORGE CHAVEZ
“First and foremost, I want to thank God for this opportunity. I want to thank everybody who has put their dues into making this event happen. Golden Boy, PBC, DAZN, Prime Video. Thank you guys for having us here. ?
“Shout out to my team, Abraham Perez with SOA Boxing and my head coach, Hector Lopez, with TKO Boxing. I expect a great event. It’s not very often that you guys get a stacked card of Mexicans, so expect war out there. Expect there to be fireworks. It’s a blessing to be here on Cinco de Mayo weekend, Let’s get it, mi gente!”
Jorge, what’s it like to be a part of a card like this against Jose Sanchez?
“It means everything to me. I’m trying to level up and fight the best of the best in my division, and this is another little hill I need to go over, just to see what’s on the other side for me.”
JOSE “TITO” SANCHEZ
“I want to thank my promoter, Golden Boy, and, of course, PBC for having me here. I feel ready to perform on May 2 and give you guys what you guys paid for. Of course, it’ll be that Mexican-style war fight, and we’re ready for anything.”
Jose, both of you are unbeaten, what’s gonna be the key difference in this fight to come out on top?
“I believe just the hard work I did at the gym, the preparation I did at training camp. All the extra miles we did, all that hard sparring we did with different opponents. And that’s the key for this fight.”
ISAAC LUCERO
“I’m really blessed to be on such a great card with so many amazing champions. I can tell you this win is going to be mine.
“I want to thank Sampson Boxing, PBC, Bob Santos and everybody that was able to make this fight happen. So, let’s do it!”
Isaac, you are obviously a part of an amazing card. You’re gonna start the pay per view. What type of statement are you looking to make Saturday night?
“Give me a shot to prove myself. Let me show you how much I’ve grown and how I deserve to be a part of these kinds of cards from now on. That’s what I’m gonna do. That is the statement I want to make.”
ISMAEL FLORES
“I really appreciate this opportunity. This is a dream come true for me, something that I have envisioned for so long. So now I’m here to make the most of it and come out with a win on Saturday night. May 2 is going to be my night.”
Ismail, you took this fight on short notice, and you are making your U.S. debut. Why did you want to jump at this opportunity against Isaac Lucero?
“The issue wasn’t tough at all, because we knew that we had to come here for an opportunity that we just couldn’t pass it up. We’re gonna give it our all. We’re gonna make our preparation worth it.
“This is the kind of opportunity that opens up a lot of doors for us. So hopefully, that’s the case.”
OSCAR DE LA HOYA, Chairman & CEO of Golden Boy Promotions
“Golden Boy is so thankful to all partners involved, including Amazon, DAZN, Sampson Boxing, PBC and TGB. We worked really hard to put an amazing night of Mexico versus Mexico matchups that will keep fans entertained from the opening bell. ?
“We are very proud to be here in Las Vegas, once again, presenting an amazing card on such an amazing weekend for boxing. Cinco de Mayo: the tradition and its glory… what brings us all together is not only this special date, but these special fighters who are here on the podium, their willingness to fight each other and the willingness to really be the very best.
“You’ve heard me in the past saying all the time, the best must fight the very best, and this is the epitome of that. We feel that Cinco de Mayo weekend, a Mexico versus Mexico showdown will be an amazing, amazing event for everyone who wants to celebrate and just have a great time here in Las Vegas and in the U.S. celebrating Cinco de Mayo.
“Pride, heart and legacy. This is where boxing’s biggest stage and Cinco de Mayo weekend come together. When Mexican and Mexican-American fighters step into the ring, they carry not just belts, but the weight of their culture and the generations before them.
“From Julio Caesar Chavez in the ’90s, to myself, making it global, this weekend became sacred in boxing. And now, it continues with David Benavidez versus Zurdo Ramirez, a Mexico versus Mexican-American showdown, that’s about more than a fight. It’s history, it’s identity.
“Zurdo is no stranger to making history. It’s in his DNA. Today, he is a unified world champion, having stepped into enemy territory to secure his belts. Benavidez is fighting to become a three-division world champion.
“This will be a fight of the year candidate. This is a guaranteed war, mark by words.”
SAMPSON LEWKOWICZ, Sampson Boxing
“Cinco de Mayo, we have a history, like Julio Cesar Chavez, and the great Oscar De La Hoya. Oscar took this weekend over. Oscar did something spectacular to make this fight happen.
“Now we have Cinco de Mayo, MGM, T-Mobile, it will be spectacular, not only for that, because these two fighters fight everyone. They took the fight with no hesitation. They talked about this fight when they were young.
“I don’t want to mention names, but I have no choice. We’re not trying to fight, fighters that will not win that night. Like, in this case, Cinco de Mayo, even though he was the last one, in Saudi Arabia, Canelo, I believe he lost, and he passed the torch to the winner of this Saturday. I guarantee you that this winner will be the new face of boxing and Canelo will be the end of the story, because he didn’t fight the best. Thank you very much.”
TOM BROWN, President of TGB Promotions
“This is such a great event. Fighting on Cinco de Mayo weekend is every Mexican fighter’s desire.
“Boxing fans have come to always expect Cinco de Mayo weekend to give them the best and biggest fights of the year. At the opening press conference, Oscar touched a little bit on the history of fighting on this date, going back to the early ’90s with Julio Cesar Chavez, and then we moved into the Golden Boy era, where Oscar really cemented the tradition and put this date as a staple on the boxing schedule.
“There hasn’t been a Cinco de Mayo fight here since 2024, and we promoted that fight, but now, Cinco de Mayo weekend is back and is back bigger than ever. We have a star-studded lineup of Mexico versus Mexico showdowns.
“And then, of course, the main event, Benavidez versus Zurdo, Mexico versus Mexico. I believe that this is gonna be a fight of the year, and I say this with all due respect to Zurdo Ramirez, I believe David Benavidez is gonna have a spectacular win on Saturday night. I believe he’ll take this date over for many years to come.”

DAZN ORIGINAL LA GUERRA CIVIL RERELEASING FOR CINCO DE MAYO WEEKEND FEATURING LIVE Q&A WITH OSCAR DE LA HOYA AND JULIO CÉSAR CHÁVEZ
NEW YORK – April 30, 2026 – DAZN, the undisputed global home of boxing, today announced the re-release of the popular feature-length documentary La Guerra Civil, available to all fans for free, in celebration of this weekend’s May 2 cruiserweight unification bout between Mexican warriors David “The Mexican Monster” Benavidez and Gilbert “Zurdo” Ramirez. The film is a tribute to the country’s rich history of boxing. A DAZN original, the documentary follows the epic rivalry between Hall of Famers Oscar De La Hoya and Julio César Chávez, capturing the magnitude and excitement of an era that continues to influence Mexican boxing today.
The documentary re-release will be accompanied by a rare Q&A session with De La Hoya and Chavez, live from Las Vegas, Nev., on the DAZN YouTube channel at 5 p.m. PT. This exclusive Q&A will further the celebrations and anticipation for what promises to be an all-out war between two of the top Mexican champions in the sport today, live on DAZN PPV on May 2.
“With an all-Mexican War Weekend on deck for this Cinco de Mayo, I am surrounded by the nostalgia of my boxing prime when I fought the best,” said Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions Oscar De La Hoya. “My fights with Julio César Chávez defined an era and elevated Mexican boxing on the global stage. La Guerra Civil captures that energy, that tension, that pride. This is our history, and this is why boxing continues to lead the world in passion and legacy.”
Recalling the epic night of the fight, Chavez said, “I stepped into that ring ready to give my people everything to show the world the relentless Mexican style that defined my life. It was the most anticipated fight of our era, but that cut rewrote history. It changed the story for Oscar and me before we could even finish telling it.”
Directed by Eva Longoria and produced by her Emmy-nominated UnbeliEVAble Entertainment, La Guerra Civil explores the storied rivalry between iconic boxers De La Hoya and Chávez during the 1990s, a clash that ignited a cultural divide between Mexican nationals and Mexican Americans. This film chronicles the defining moment in the sport while offering a look into pride, identity, and the compelling story of two Mexican legends.
To take advantage of all DAZN has to offer, boxing fans can subscribe to DAZN Ultimate, ensuring access to 185+ fight nights and a minimum of 12 pay-per-views (PPV) per year.

VIDEO: Conah Walker Vs Sam Eggington Press Conference
WOLVERHAMPTON FIGHT WEEK FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE: EVERYTHING THAT WAS SAID AS WALKER AND EGGINGTON GET SET FOR SHOWDOWN
Conah Walker and Sam Eggington traded their final verbal blows ahead of Saturday’s powder keg Midlands derby in Wolverhampton – live on the Global Home of Boxing, DAZN.
The Super-Welterweight showdown headlines a stacked card at University of Wolverhampton at The Halls, and hometown hero Walker warned local rival Eggington that he will not be stopped in his quest for triumph, as he targets a push for World Title honours in 2026.
Bilal Fawaz, meanwhile, prepares to defend his British & Commonwealth Super Welterweight Titles against Birmingham’s Ryan Kelly.
Teenage Featherweight sensation Tiah Mai Ayton steps up against former European Title challenger Stevi Levy, whilst Shannon Ryan takes on Nicola Hopewell with the IBF Intercontinental & Commonwealth Super Flyweight belts at stake.
Another wonderkid is in action with Middleweight prospect Harley ‘The Beast’ Burrows looking ahead to his pro debut. Plus, the highly-rated Super Welterweight Junaid Bostan makes his eagerly awaited return, as fellow young gun Louie Ward prepares for his second professional contest.
Here’s what the fighters had to say at Thursday’s Final Press Conference – you can watch it back in full in the video player below:
CONAH WALKER
“It’s been a journey. It’s been a rollercoaster from start to end. In only my fourth fight, I fought an undefeated fighter. Then I fought another undefeated fighter in my fifth fight. It’s just the way I’ve done things. I don’t like to take the easy route and there were easier options on the table for this. I wanted Sam. I was asking for him last year. Not because I’ve got anything against Sam [Eggington]. I think he’s a great fighter and we get on well outside the ring. But business is business. It sells because we’re both big names from the Midlands. But we’re both household names outside of the Midlands too. And I want to be beating these household names – I want these names on my resumé. Obviously, we wanted the Ekow Essuman fight originally. Again, his name is out there. But that didn’t materialise, so I was pushing for Sam. We had a few back-and-forth messages and we agree together that we wanted the fight. We left it to the managers and then it was all done, signed and sealed. Now we are here.
“Dangerous fighters are people who got it all to lose. It’s the same as what Sam has said, this is my dream job. I’ve got to put food on my table. There’s pressure in every walk of life, not just boxing. It’s everywhere you look. Boxing is what I enjoy and challenging myself is what I love. And this is a big challenge. I’m stepping up in weight and facing a high-risk level fighter, who comes and has it. But these are the fights that get me going. You’ve seen how I train and what sort of shape I come in, so it’s my job now to get past Sam and go on to the next big challenges. We’ve got a big fight on Saturday. He’s definitely going to be there. I know that. But he knows I’m going to be there too and that’s what makes it a great fight. I’ve been having these fights that people didn’t want to take. This is a fight I can really get my teeth stuck into. It’s just a great fight.”
SAM EGGINGTON
“I’ve had a lot of fights. I’ve won a lot of belts. I love my job and my motivation is to keep the job I love. The more you lose, you’re going to have to pack it in. So, the fact is I need to carry on winning to keep doing the job I love doing. I get up and I love what I do. It gives me the freedom with my family and stuff like that. So that’s why it is my motivation. I always think the runners in the boxing world is a hard night – but the people who want to come and have a go is meat and drink. I love that stuff and I know Conah is very much the same. It’s why this fight was so easy to make when it was put to the promoter. We snapped it up in a heartbeat. It sells. People know what this is about. Nobody needs to be talked into this because they know what is going to happen on the night. Whether it sets fire in the first or the fourth or the sixth, it is going to set fire. Once it does, it won’t stop until someone falls over or the last bell rings.”
BILAL FAWAZ
“Hello everyone, thank you for having me once again. It’s a momentous occasion. Thank you. The last year has been quite sensational. People come to me and want to take pictures. People ask me for a picture for their son on their birthdays. I cannot fathom or comprehend the level of appreciation that we have ascertained. It’s crazy, and I think it’s because we’re the underdog. We only started boxing two and a half years ago. Look what we have, we’re not afraid of anyone.
“You’re coming to get paid. Let me tell you, you cannot understand how much punishment I will rain down on you. I like you as a person. I have a kid, you have a 4 year old daughter – hats off to you. For you to even dream about stepping in that ring against me, it’s embarrassing to me that you think you can come and challenge me. If you do not apologise now, you will apologise in the ring. I’m telling you.”
RYAN KELLY
“I’m willing to do whatever it takes to come out the venue on Saturday night with those two straps. I believe I can do it. I’ve got to just do that bit more that’s been missing. He’s looking at me very deep. But, he’ll be looking at me Saturday night. It’s going to be a good fight. I like Bilal Fawz, I’m behind it. It’s good, it’s good for boxing. Saturday we get in there and it’s fisticuffs.
“As a fighter, look, he’s got the British and Commonwealth Titles sat next to him. He’s doing something right. He’s got the people watching him. It’s good for boxing, whether he’s against me or not. But like I say, on Saturday I truly believe I get the win in fashion.”
TIAH MAI AYTON
“I’ve just got stronger and bigger in the last year. I’d been struggling to make weight so me and my team just decided it would be better for me to go up.
“I’m excited because everyone knows about Stevi, everyone knows who she is, and she’s got a big following on Instagram. When I do win on Saturday it’s going to look good for me.
“Definitely I want to make a statement. Loads of the women I’ve fought as a pro – none of them have been stopped and I’ve stopped all of them. It’s like the pressure is off now isn’t it – no KO’s. Nobody is expecting to see it all of the time.
“I reckon I could stop Stevi.”
STEVI LEVY
“Firstly, I want to just say how grateful I am to be here. It’s a chance to show the world the fighter I’ve become since working with Jordan and Paul Gill, my new family. And to be able to share it with my son Morgan – it was his birthday yesterday, happy birthday babe. We’ve been doing ringwalk dances for a couple of years now and he’s chosen this one. We’re so excited to do it on a Matchroom show.
“Secondly, I was to say that I am actually a massive Tiah Ayton fan. I’ve followed her for years and I think she’s incredible. I really do. Feelings aside, Matchroom has always been my dream. I sat here four and a half years ago and said the same thing. I didn’t have any skill back then, no ring IQ, no experience and no self-belief. I’ve got all of that now and I’m extremely confident that I’m going to get the win and shock everyone.”
SHANNON RYAN
“I think both of us facing Emma, I don’t really think it means anything overall. It’s going to be a great fight. I’ve seen Nicola before. She had a good fight and a close fight with Emma Dolan. I haven’t taken Nicola lightly at all. I think it will be a really good fight. I respect her and I’m looking forward to it.
“I think I’m ready (for a World Title fight), before I don’t think I was – how I was as a person, my boxing etc. Whereas now I think I’ve come on leaps and bounds. I’ve changed overall. My maturity is a lot better as well. That is something that I’m definitely looking for – get the win on Saturday night and I’m hoping an IBF World Title can come after that. Clean, good performance and a Shannon Ryan win.”
NICOLA HOPEWELL
“It’s a really good opportunity for me to go back up to Super-Flyweight. We’re boxing for the first title that I boxed for at Super-Flyweight as a pro. So, it’s like full circle for me – and then obviously the IBF on the line as well. It’s really exciting for me. I think she’s a good fighter. It’s a really good match-up. I think it’ll be a really good fight to be fair.”
HARLEY BURROWS
“I’m just taking it all in, I’m excited. Obviously this is what we’ve trained for. This is what you dream of as a young boxer so I’m buzzing. Probably in my first ten fights. I was stopping one every two – with a headguard as well. Then I started training full time. I thought, ‘I’ve got something here, so I may as well give it a go’. Jordan [Gill] said told me not to get carried away and to stick to the plan – which is what I’m going to do. The dream it just to be remembered as one of the great household names, and a knockout artist.”
JUNAID BOSTAN
“I’d say the first quarter of this year has just been about getting my shit together. The second quarter onwards is about getting back on job. Last year was what it was. I think sometimes you have to take a few steps backwards in order to go a dozen forward. I think that’s definitely that. We take the lessons and we move forwards. I’m heavily motivated. A good performance, I do believe I can get this man out inside the distance. Getting back to winning ways again. You’d rather have a shit win than a good loss. I definitely agree with that. I’m here for titles. The two titles I’ve always wanted from boxing is the British Title and a World Title. The guys who’s got the British is the one I don’t think many fans would complain about me being in with for a third fight. All eyes on Saturday.”
LOUIE WARD
“It was a good show. It was a good experience. It came with a lot of pressure, I suppose. My teammate was headlining it, Jimmy was on it as well. Maybe I felt a little bit of pressure. He was a tough opponent and it was good to get the rounds in. It feels a little bit different. I’ll still have nerves on the night, but it’s good to have nerves. I’ve always thought it was a good idea to have some nerves before you go in there, it makes you sharp and aware. I just want to put on another good performance really – a more spiteful one.”
VIDEO: Benavidez vs. Zurdo MEDIA WORKOUT LIVE STREAM
DAVID BENAVIDEZ VS. GILBERTO “ZURDO” RAMIREZ MEDIA WORKOUT QUOTES
LAS VEGAS – April 29, 2026 – Undefeated two-division world champion David “El Monstro” Benavidez and unified WBA and WBO Cruiserweight World Champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez kicked off fight week events for Cinco de Mayo weekend in Las Vegas on Wednesday with a media workout before they square off in a first-of-its-kind Mexico vs. Mexico showdown headlining a PBC Pay-Per-View event available on Prime Video this Saturday, May 2 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The reigning WBC and WBA Light Heavyweight Champion, Benavidez can become the first fighter in history to win full world titles at 168, 175 and 200 pounds with a victory on Saturday, while Ramirez aims to become the first to defeat Benavidez and add a crowning Cinco de Mayo weekend moment to his career.
The workout also featured fighters competing on a stacked pay-per-view undercard full of high-octane Mexico vs. Mexico matchups, including WBA Super Middleweight Armando “Toro” Resendiz and all-action former champion Jaime Munguia, who square off in the co-main event.
Also participating in the workout ahead of PPV undercard bouts were top super lightweight contenders Oscar Duarte and Angel “Tashiro” Fierro, who battle in a 12-round attraction, unbeaten Mexican contenders Jorge Chavez and Jose “Tito” Sanchez, who face off in a 10-round super bantamweight tilt and undefeated rising Mexican star Isaac “Puro México” Lucero, who faces hard-hitting Ismael Flores in the 10-round super welterweight opening attraction at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
Tickets are on sale now through AXS.com.
The event is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and Sampson Boxing in association with TGB Promotions. Reséndiz vs. Munguia is promoted in association with Warriors Boxing and Zanfer Boxing Promotions. Duarte vs. Fierro is promoted in association with Cancun Boxing and BXSTRS.
In addition to the PPV being available for purchase on Prime Video, regardless of Prime membership, fans will also be able to purchase the PPV via DAZN.com. On top of those options, fans will also be able to continue to access the telecast through traditional cable and satellite outlets, as well as PPV.com.
Here is what the fighters had to say Wednesday from MGM Grand in Las Vegas:
DAVID BENAVIDEZ
“A win on Saturday lets me know that I’m fulfilling my destiny. I know that I’m gonna be an all-time great when it’s all said and done. I’m just gonna continue showing everyone that I’m the best in the world.
I’ve worked extremely hard for this. Five months of training camp. The only thing I’ve seen in my vision is victory. I’m gonna make sure you get your money’s worth on May 2.
“I’m a different type of fighter than everyone else. I’ve been fighting the best in the world again and again.
“Camp has been amazing. I’m very excited and ready to showcase my skills on Saturday night in front of all those fans.
“I’ve been on weight since last week. I’m gonna come in with a tremendous energy. I really can’t wait.”
GILBERTO “ZURDO” RAMIREZ
“It’s an honor to be here and I’m super excited. This is Cinco de Mayo. This is for all my Mexican people.
“I always knew this would be the kind of fight that people were going to want to see. When it finally came around, I was ready to do it.
“Every fight is tough and every fight is different. The only thing I know, is that on May 2 we’re gonna make history.
“I’m the best. Zurdo mejor. I’m the champion and I’m gonna keep the belt. We’re going to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with a big party!”
ARMANDO RESENDIZ
“It’s simple. I just have to go out there, listen to my corner and enjoy every single minute of it. We’re gonna put on a show and give everyone a great night.
“This could not be more exciting for me. I’m the champ and it feels amazing. I’m enjoying the moment. That’s all you can do. Enjoy this and go for the win on Saturday night.
“Every single fight on this card is outstanding, but I know that my fight is gonna be very entertaining. The only goal is to go home with the belt in my arms.”
JAIME MUNGUIA
“I’ve been here before, but now you’re gonna see a more mature Jaime Munguia. I’m hungry and ready to take the title. We’re gonna put on a show on May 2.
“When two Mexican fighters are inside the ring, you get a great fight. This is no exception. You’re gonna see two warriors out there.
“We’re gonna go in there and look for the knockout. We’re gonna make this a spectacle and get the win.
“I promise that you’re gonna see Jaime Munguia as a two-time world champion on Saturday night. I’m gonna come out on top.”
OSCAR DUARTE
“I’m really proud to be part of this. There’s a long storied history of Mexican fighters competing here in Las Vegas and this card is chock full of fighters prime to make history as well. I’m here to show my best and let everyone know what I’m capable of.
“Fierro is an aggressive fighter, and so am I. The only way to neutralize his aggressiveness is for me to come forward and show him what I’m all about.
“I promise that I’m gonna give everyone a great fight. I’m ready for it.
“I’m here to face the best. I want to go up against the best that the 140-pound division has to offer, and one fighter in particular, Pitbull Cruz.”
ANGEL FIERRO
“I’m gonna go out there and put on a show like I always do. I’m gonna leave my blood, sweat and tears inside the ring. I’m doing this for Tijuana!
“I love being the underdog. I’m here to spoil the party. I gave everyone an amazing fight with Pitbull Cruz and I’m gonna do that again against Duarte.
“I’m here to steal the show. It’s hard to do with all the names on this card. It’s a tall task, but we’re gonna delight the fans and I’m gonna come out with a win.
“This is gonna put me on the doorstep to even bigger fights. I’m talking about world title opportunities. But the first thing is Duarte on Saturday night.”
JORGE CHAVEZ
“Training camp has been great. We’re preparing for a war and excited to perform on this tremendous card.
“I was better than ever in my last fight and fans can expect the same thing on Saturday. I’m gonna be the best version of myself.
“When I win, I want Naoya Inoue. I want to face the best. That’s the bottom line, and that all starts on Saturday night.
“You can expect no less than a war. You know the Mexicans are prime to deliver that.”
JOSE “TITO” SANCHEZ
“I’m really excited to be on a big Mexican style card like this. I’m extremely glad to be in this position.
“I’ve just been staying in camp with Joel Diaz. I’m always locked in and ready. I can’t wait to perform on Saturday.
“I think Benavidez is getting a stoppage in the main event for sure.”
ISAAC LUCERO
“My aim is to keep improving and be in position to go after bigger and better goals, like a world title. I just want to get better day in and day out.
“I’m a warrior above all. But I’m also going to listen to my corner, because I trust them. What I do in the gym is what sets me up for success.
“You can expect a true Cinco de Mayo battle on Saturday. This is gonna be all-out war. You’re not gonna want to miss it.
“I’m just focused on getting the win. Flores has his own goals, but I’m just focused on what I need to do to come out with my hand raised.”

Toro’s Talented Trio of Prospects Fighting in Mexico on May 15th
LOS ANGELES (April 29, 2026) – Toro Promotions, Inc. will hold four monthly shows starting May 15 in Chetumal, Mexico, featuring undefeated super featherweight Nilo Guerrero (11-0-0, 8 KOs), heavyweight Tsotne “Mr. T” Rogava (12-1-0, 8 KOs), and lightweight Narek Hovhannisyan (2-0-0, 1 KO).
The 25-year-old Guerrero, fighting out of Nicaragua, headlines against Juan “Pelon” Pablo Ramirez Rouque (13-4-0, 2 KOs), of Mexico, in the 10-round main event. Guerrero captured the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) FECARBOX super featherweight title in his last fight this past September in El Salvador, stopping William Vargus (9-5-0, 3 KOs) in the second round.
Unusually tall (6’ 1”) for a super featherweight, Guerrero uses his height and reach to his advantage, effectively outboxing his opponents enroute to his 11-0 record as a professional. Rogue is riding a 9-fight win streak into his May 15th matchup versus Guerrero.
The 6’ 3”, 250-pound Rogava faces unbeaten Mexican opponent Mauricio “La Mole” Leo Perez (8-0-1, 6 KOs) in the 8-round co-featured event. A native of Georgia, Rogava is a former kickboxer who represented Ukraine in boxing at the 2020 Olympics. He now lives in Marina del Rey, California.
In his last action, Rogava suffered his first loss as a pro last August in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in which he lost a 6-round majority decision to the eventual heavyweight tournament runner-up Ahmed Krnjic (5-0-0, 4 KOs) in the quarterfinals of the WBC Grand Prix. Rogava is trained by Hall of Famer Joe Goossen.
The third Toro fighter on the May 15th card in Mexico is Armenian lightweight Narek Hovhannisyan (2-0, KO), who squares off with hometown favorite Brayen “El Lobo” Briceno (3-0-2, 2 KOs), of Mexico, in a 6-round bout. Hovhannisyan’s cousin is Gurgen “Big Gulp” Hovhannisyan (10-0-0, 9 KOs), one of the leading heavyweight prospects in boxing.

CONAH WALKER READY FOR AN ALL-OUT WAR AGAINST MIDLANDS RIVAL SAM EGGINGTON IN HIS HOMETOWN WOLVERHAMPTON – LIVE ON DAZN
By order of Conah Walker, “there ain’t no man” beating him in Wolverhampton as he prepares to headline in his hometown this Saturday – live worldwide on DAZN.
‘The Wolf’ went toe-to-toe with Midlands rival Sam Eggington at the first Fight Week Face-Off, taking place on the famous cobbles at the Black Country Museum, where scenes for the popular ‘Peaky Blinders’ TV series were filmed.
Walker – who moves up in weight for this fight – is on the cusp of a World Title fight at Welterweight level. But he’s ready to go into the trenches this weekend for what he expects to be an all-out war at the sold-out University of Wolverhampton at The Halls.
“This is everything I’ve asked for, since jumping on board with Matchroom Boxing,” said Walker, speaking to SJA Award-winning presenter Jamie Ward.
“After a couple of good wins, I was crying out for it asking to be a headliner, so I can get back to where it all started. And I’ve got it, so I’m buzzing.
“’m happy, not only for me and the fight itself, but happy for all my friends and family who have travelled the world to come and watch me. The support has been phenomenal for this. It’s my time now to put on a performance for them.”
‘The Savage’ Eggington – a former IBO World Champion – has built up a formidable reputation over the years as one of the UK’s most battle-hardened fighters with a record 36-9, featuring 20 victories by way of knockout.
And Walker (17-3-1, 8 KOs) believes a win over the Birmingham fighter will further enhance his own impressive standing in the sport as he sets his sights on eventually challenging for World Titles.
“I’ve been calling out to fight Sam for a long while,” said Walker.
“Not because I’ve got anything against him – myself and Sam get on. There’s no bad blood or stigma there. It’s just he’s one of the big names here in the Midlands in and around my weight. So, it’s a local derby. He’s a big name here and a well-known name in the UK. It would be a statement for me to go and win – and win in style.
“There were probably easier fights that I could have accepted, but I wanted to fight Sam. I knew it would sell well, which it has.
“It’s going to catch fire. There’s no doubt about that. It will be a great clash of styles. But overall, I’m too fresh and I’m ready for it. I want to give everyone in Wolverhampton a special fight, showing the world that I am no gimmick.
“There ain’t no man beating me in Wolverhampton. I’m telling you that now.”
Steve Claggett to face top contender Adam Azim on May 30 in London!
MONTREAL, April 29, 2026 — The “Dragon” is heading to England! Eye of the Tiger’s Steve Claggett will face top-10 world contender and European champion Adam Azim on May 30 at the OVO Arena Wembley in London, England.
“I’ve spent my entire life working towards an opportunity like this. I’m grateful and excited to be coming to the UK to fight Adam Azim. I know Adam is a good, young boxer, and I’ll be preparing for the very best version of him on the night. I’ve put in the hard work, I’m already in great shape, and on fight night I’ll be ready to show the UK fans what I’m all about,” said Calgary’s Steve Claggett.
Already experienced in high-profile bouts, Steve Claggett (40-8-2, 28 KOs) went toe-to-toe with Teofimo Lopez in June 2024 in a hard-fought 12-round world championship fight in Florida. The boxer trained in Montreal by Mike Moffa returned to winning ways the following October and recently secured his 40th career victory this past March, in his 50th professional bout. Currently ranked No. 22 in the world by the WBC at super lightweight (140 lb), he’s ready to climb back toward the top on May 30.
British boxer of Pakistani origin Adam Azim (14-0, 11 KOs) is considered one of the rising stars of the division. In just 14 fights, “The Assassin” has already captured the WBC Youth, WBO Intercontinental, IBO World, and European titles. After defeating former world champion Sergey Lipinets last year, he is currently ranked No. 7 in the world by the WBO, and No. 8 by both the WBA and WBC.
“This is another big step forward for me on my journey to a world title. I’m excited to be headlining live on the BBC in front of a massive audience. I always want to be involved in entertaining fights, and on May 30, I’m going to give the fans a night to remember. Steve Claggett is a tough, experienced fighter, he gave Teofimo Lopez his toughest fight, and that’s exactly the kind of challenge I want. I’m ready to put on a great performance and show everyone why I’m destined for the top,” said Adam Azim.
The full #AzimClaggett event, presented by BOXXER, will be broadcast nationally on the BBC platform in the UK. Tickets will go on sale in the coming days. Photos from Steve Claggett’s recent fights are also available in the press kit (HERE).

NO TURNING BACK! O’LEARY AND CHAMBERLAIN COLLIDE ON AUGUST 1, Live on DAZN!
| THE BIG BANG, Pierce O’Leary, will once again be the star turn at the 3Arena in his home city of Dublin on Saturday, August 1, when he goes up against Mark Chamberlain in a first defence of his IBO world super lightweight title, live on DAZN. The pair were originally set to deliver a potential thriller back in March before Chamberlain was forced out through illness, with O’Leary proceeding to captivate a packed house by defeating Maxi Hughes in the fifth round to become IBO world champion. It was a first professional appearance in Dublin for the 26-year-old O’Leary (19-0, 11 KOs) and his popularity was perfectly illustrated by the ‘sold out’ signs being posted well in advance of fight night. For southpaw Chamberlain (17-1-1, 12 KOs), from Waterlooville, this collision with O’Leary will represent his second major assignment at super lightweight, with him previously having been WBC Silver, WBA Intercontinental and IBF European champion at lightweight. In his first title tilt at his new weight, the 27-year-old headed north to Altrincham to fight for the British and Commonwealth titles held by the undefeated Jack Rafferty. The judges couldn’t separate the pair after 12 rounds of non-stop action. Now he takes up the challenge of O’Leary in his home city, and, as the title of the show indicates, it will be ‘No Turning Back’. “This is a fight we simply had to get done,” said promoter Frank Warren. “Everyone was so excited by the prospect of it back in March, so we just couldn’t let it pass by. “It is one of those fights where you just know it will deliver. Two young talents, big punchers who don’t take a backward step. All the ingredients are there for a real barnstormer, with a world title on top this time. “Pierce is spearheading a revival of professional boxing in Dublin, and the reaction to his March homecoming was astounding. The show also witnessed the debuts of two incredible Irish talents in Bobbi Flood and Adam Olaniyan, so there are many special years ahead for the Dublin fight scene. “August 1 will be another spectacular night of action at the 3Arena and, believe me, it will be worth the wait!” |
VARGAS AND WHITTAKER AIM TO SHINE ON HUGE ZAYAS-BOOTS BROOKLYN STAGE
Emiliano Vargas and Ben Whittaker have vowed to dazzle on the very biggest stage, as their fights on the undercard of the blockbuster showdown between Xander Zayas and Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis are announced for Saturday June 27 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY, exclusively live worldwide on DAZN – with Vargas facing Bryce Mills for the WBC USA Silver, WBO Latino and NABF Jr. Super-Lightweight titles and Whittaker meeting Richard Rivera for the WBC Silver Light-Heavyweight title.
TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW AT TICKETMASTER.COM
Vargas’s clash with Mills acts as the co-main event on the card, and it’s another spotlight moment for the Californian starlet who has had an incredible year already. The 22 year old began 2026 with a starring role alongside Zayas in Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show in Santa Clara in February, shortly after being named as The Ring’s 2025 prospect of the year ahead of his return to the ring later that month where he forced the retirement of Agustin Quintana after nine rounds of their co-main clash on another huge card, the unification showdown between Emanuel Navarrete and Sugar Nunez in Glendale, Arizona.
Vargas (17-0 14 KOs) will be looking for the 18th victory of his blossoming career in the Big Apple, but Mills (22-1 9 KOs) will have other ideas. The Liverpool, NY man fights for the third time in 2026 and defends the WBC belt that he won in February at Turning Stone in Verona with a fourth round stoppage of Tobias Green, and successfully defended the strap two months later in Rochester by forcing Julio Rosa to retire after three rounds of their clash.
“I have had an incredible start to the year, and I have no intention of slowing down,” said Vargas. “On June 27 at Barclays Center, I will step onto the biggest stage of my career on DAZN PPV, ready to seize this opportunity and make it clear to every champion in the division: “El General” is coming! ¡Vengo por todo!”
Whittaker (11-0-1 8 KOs) makes his American debut on June 27 and does so hot on the heels of a second emphatic first round KO win under the Matchroom banner. The 2020 Olympic silver medal man destroyed Braian Suarez in Liverpool a fortnight ago to rubber-stamp his trip Stateside, five months after making his promotional debut under Eddie Hearn with a late contender for KO of the year in his Birmingham, close to his Wolverhampton hometown.
The flashy Brit could make a big statement with a third KO in a row on his bow across the pond and send a message to the 175lb division – the exact same prize on offer for Rivera if he can hand a first pro defeat to his 28 year old foe. Rivera (27-2 20 KOs) steps back through the ropes for the first time since landing a first round KO win of his own in January 2025 in Connecticut, a second win in a row following a ten round triumph in his home state in April 2024, and ‘Popeye’ will be relishing his biggest stage since being edged out by Badou Jack in Saudi Arabia on the undercard of the World Heavyweight unification rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua in August 2022.
“I am really excited to make my American debut in the Big Apple on such a big card,” said Whittaker. “I’ve got a lot of love for the American fans, and we’ve developed a great relationship over recent years, so I can’t wait to get out there and put on a spectacular performance for them.”
“The British are coming, the British are coming!” said Rivera. “If Ben thinks he is going to my backyard to make a statement, history will repeat itself. I’m not gonna need a can of spinach for this fight. Ben might have the boxing world fooled, but I’m not convinced.”
A third fight announced for the undercard sees Jahi Tucker (16-1-1 7 KOs) take on Euri Cedeno (14-0-1 12 KOs) over ten rounds for the vacant IBF North American, WBC USA and WBO NABO Middleweight titles, with more undercard action to be announced in due course, all ahead of a stunning main event as Zayas puts his unified WBO and WBA World Super-Welterweight titles on the line against former unified Welterweight ruler Ennis.

Her amateur career culminated with winning a bronze medal at the 2020 Olympic Games, cementing her status as one of the premier international boxers of her generation. Her style blends sharp fundamentals with controlled aggression, allowing her to dictate fights and neutralize opponents’ strengths. The 28-year-old Jones currently holds the IBF world title and resides in Atlanta, Georgia. She was ranked #23 among ESPN’s best women’s boxers of 2025 following her tightly-contested world title defense against Elia Carranza in July 2025. Now, the pair face off in a rematch with Carranza as mandatory challenger.
“As an Olympic medalist and current world champion, I’m beyond excited and truly honored for the opportunity to fight on ESPN and MVP, the biggest and best platform in women’s boxing,” said Oshae Jones. “This isn’t just another fight for me; it’s a moment to help elevate the sport, inspire the next generation, and create opportunities that will change countless lives. MVP’s reigning WBC featherweight world champion Tiara Brown holds a career built on an exceptional amateur pedigree, technical excellence, and championship-level discipline. Long before capturing world honors in the professional ranks, Brown established herself as one of the most accomplished amateurs in the United States. A highly-decorated amateur, Brown was a multiple-time US national champion, competing at the highest levels of USA Boxing and consistently defeating top-tier competition across the country, culminating with a gold medal at the 2012 amateur world championships. That foundation seamlessly translated into the pro ranks, where her experience, composure, and adaptability have set her apart on the world stage. Brown’s style is defined by speed, sharp fundamentals, and intelligent pressure. She is equally comfortable boxing off the back foot or engaging in high-paced exchanges, making her one of the most technically sound and versatile fighters in women’s boxing today. Representing Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s proud boxing tradition, Brown defeated Skye Nicholson in March 2025 to claim the WBC featherweight title before successfully defending the belt against Emma Gongara in September 2025. She is currently ranked Boxrec’s #17 pound-for-pound female fighter and was ranked #16 among ESPN’s best women’s boxers of 2025.
“Saturday, June 13th, I’m going to show the world why I should never be overlooked and taken lightly,” said Tiara Brown. “I am The Dark Menace!”
Hannah Rapp was born and raised in Yorktown, Indiana, where she grew up as a multi-sport athlete competing in soccer, basketball, softball, cross country, and track & field. She went on to attend Purdue University, where she ran track as a walk-on for two years before being cut from the roster during the COVID-19 pandemic. Later that year, she entered treatment for an eating disorder. After completing treatment in 2021, Rapp walked into her first boxing gym and immediately fell in love with the sport. Rapp graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental and Ecological Engineering and went on to build a boxing career, competing in eight amateur bouts before turning professional in April 2024. Early in her career, she relocated to Texas and captured the NABF featherweight title in just her fourth professional fight, working with Coach Carl Perry and manager Ryan Karl. Since first stepping into a boxing gym, Rapp has been driven by the goal of becoming a world champion. She remains focused on reaching her full potential, confident that her natural ability, strong support system, and passion for the sport will carry her to the highest level.
“This is the moment I’ve been dreaming of and preparing for since the first day I walked into a boxing gym almost five years ago,” said Hannah Rapp. “I am thrilled to finally have the opportunity to show the world who Hanarchy is. Tiara Brown is a worthy opponent, and I know she will bring out the best of my abilities.”

She made her first successful world title defense with a TKO win on MVP Fight Night in August 2025, and defended her title again against challenger Stephanie Silva in December 2025.
“No talking, no glitz, no glamour,” said Jasmine Artiga. “Just no mercy. This is for my grandma. It’s time to take over.”
Evelin “La Princesita” Bermúdez is one of the most dominant figures in women’s boxing today. Born in Villa Gobernador Gálvez, she comes from a distinguished boxing lineage as the sister of former four-division world champion Daniela Bermúdez. Evelin currently holds the WBO, IBF, and WBA world titles at 108 pounds. Her rise to prominence was cemented in 2018, when she captured her first world title against Mexico’s Guadalupe Bautista. Since then, she has successfully defended her reign, solidifying her place among the pound-for-pound elite. She has headlined historic fights both in Argentina and abroad, becoming a key figure in the resurgence of women’s boxing in her country. Most recently, she delivered a statement performance, knocking out Canada’s Sara Bailey in just one round on the road, claiming her WBA title and becoming the unified world champion. Bermudez continues to build her legacy, proving that her nickname reflects not only her family heritage, but also the elegance and authority with which she rules her division on the global stage.
“I’m excited to have my next fight scheduled for Saturday, June 13 in Orlando. This will be the first defense of my WBO, IBF, and WBA titles—and, God willing, a key step toward becoming the undisputed champion,” said Evelin Bermudez. “I’m training as hard as I do for every fight, focused on pushing my limits. I’m sharpening my best weapons and adding new ones to keep my opponents guessing in the ring.”
A boxer since the age of 12, inspired by her older brother, Estefany Alegría Osorio always aimed to follow in his footsteps, eventually surpassing his accomplishments. She enjoyed a standout amateur career, becoming a two-time Mexican National Champion at the National Olympics in 2019 and 2020 before turning professional in 2021 with a victory. The Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico native remained undefeated for four years, scoring wins over top-level opponents such as Linda Contreras and Tania García, the latter earning her the WBA Latin minimumweight title. Her unbeaten run came to an unexpected halt in 2024 against Melanie Sarmiento, but she quickly avenged the loss just months later with a clear unanimous decision victory. In 2025, she showcased her elite level by defeating former WBC Silver world champion Ángela Nolasco in a dominant performance. She further solidified her status this past March in an all-out war against Danna Paola Alanís, capturing the WBC Silver world title and propelling herself to the top of the rankings across the major sanctioning bodies worldwide.
“I’m very happy and it’s a dream come true to be fighting for a world title,” said Estafany Alegria. “It’s been years of hard work and finally on Saturday, June 13 I will become world champion. There’s nothing stopping me. I’m in the best time of my career. Bermudez is a great champ but she’s not stopping me.”
Hailing from São Paulo, Brazil, Jully Poca is a powerhouse athlete who has dominated the crossover boxing scene with an undefeated record. Originally Brazil’s premier female fitness influencer, her life took a sharp turn in 2023 when she was invited to compete in the UK alongside megastar Whindersson Nunes. Despite only training for three months prior to her debut, she discovered a profound passion for the sport and has spent the last three years training exclusively as a full-time boxer. Under the tutelage of renowned coach Antonio Filho, the mentor behind former WBO champion Rose Volante, Poca has solidified her status by going undefeated to date and is now set to make her fully sanctioned professional debut with Most Valuable Promotions. Beyond her technical prowess, Jully possesses a magnetic public profile built on genuine courage. “I can’t wait for my MVP and professional boxing debut! This has been such a wild ride so far and I feel like it’s just starting,” said Jully Poca. “I have been making some huge adjustments to my training camp and I am sure everyone will be shocked to see my new best version in action!”

At the 2021 amateur world championships, Marley fought in the IBA cruiserweight division and earned the silver medal, before becoming the 2022 Brazilian national amateur champion. In 2023, Marley won the prestigious Strandja Tournament, the biggest championship on the European circuit, becoming the first Brazilian man to reach the final and win the title before winning silver at the 2023 Pan American Games. He continued his amateur sprint as he returned to represent Brazil again at the Paris 2024 Olympics in the men’s heavyweight division, once again reaching the quarter finals. Outside boxing, Marley faced two difficult losses in 2021, losing his older brother to murder and his cousin to suicide. He now actively serves as a third sergeant in the Brazilian Army, holds a university degree in physical education, and is currently completing a law degree. He trains out of the Brazilian Olympic Training Center and is co-managed by Brazil’s biggest influencer, multi-talented superstar Whindersson Nunes. He resides in São Paulo, Brazil.
“After my pro debut, I was already waiting for MVP to call and give me the date. Now to have this one set, I’m ready to keep showing the world that I’m ready for the highest level,” said Keno Marley. “Everyone can expect a big performance from me and I will be looking for the KO from the first second of the fight.”
Gabriela “Sosa” Tellez is an undefeated rising prospect in the lightweight division, holding a 7-0 record with 3 knockouts. At just 19 years old, the orthodox fighter has already built a strong foundation with over 90 amateur bouts, showcasing maturity and ring IQ well beyond her years. She is currently ranked WBA #3 contender in the world at 130lbs.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to defend my WBA Continental Americas title, especially over 10 rounds, that’s a big step for me, but I’m confident in my ability to shine,” said Gabriela Tellez. “I’ve been working hard in the gym, staying focused, and improving every day. No matter who the opponent is, I’m coming in prepared and ready to give my best performance.”
WBA and WBO #12 ranked contender Jordan Orozco Hernandez will also join the undercard. He boasts a fearsome 100% KO ratio on his 16-0 record, with 16 knockouts. The 21-year-old Nicaraguan bantamweight most recently earned a second round TKO win over Daniel Olea in March.

Manager Keith Sullivan Warns Anthony Joshua’s Choice to Fight Kristian Prenga will Backfire
NEW YORK CITY (April 28, 2026) – The official announcement that Anthony “AJ” Joshua (29-4, 6 KOs) will return to the ring for a “tune-up” fight versus Albanian power-puncher Kristian “KP” Prenga (20-1, 20 KOs) on July 25 caught many by surprise.
Joshua will put his tentatively scheduled showdown, with Tyson “The Gypsy King” Fury (35-2-1, 24 KOs), slated during the final quarter of 2026, at risk by facing Prenga in a 12-round main event, headlining “The Comeback” live and exclusively on DAZN from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
A two-time European kickboxing champion, Prenga, had no amateur experience, and remains relatively unknown in some boxing circles. However, he and his team fully appreciate the career-changing opportunity they’ve been offered, that could end up positioning him among the leading heavyweights in the world.
The 35-year-old Kristian Prenga has demonstrated remarkable punching power throughout his career. He has secured victories by knockout in all 20 of his wins, and his lone defeat came early in his career, in 2017, during just his fifth professional bout. Since then, though, he has been riding a 16-fight win streak, establishing himself as a dangerous opponent.
Joshua has a somewhat suspect chin having been stopped by Andy Ruiz (35-5-1, 22 KOs) and Daniel Dubois (21-2, 21 KOs) and rocked by other heavy hitters.
They are true heavyweights: Joshua stands 6’ 6” and weighed 243 pounds in his last fight; Prenga is 6’ 6” and was 264 ½ in his most recent action.
New York City-based boxing lawyer Keith Sullivan, who gained invaluable experience as a former New York State Athletic Commission Deputy Commissioner, didn’t start managing Prenga until this past February.
Sullivan, through Sullivan Management, is a fierce advocate for his fighters creating opportunities for them and has been extremely instrumental in successfully petitioning sanctioning bodies and commissions for his boxing clients who were the subject of nefarious officiating.
Despite being a founding partner in a successful 20-year-old New York City litigation firm, Sullivan & Galleshaw LLP, Sullivan is highly respected in the industry for his vast boxing knowledge and tireless commitment to fighting for his fighters. Two such clients of note are Irish world welterweight title challenger Paddy “The Real Deal” Donovan (14-2, 11 KOs) and the Japanese three-time, two-division world champion Miyo Yoshida (19-5, 1 KO).
Donovan, ranked No. 3 by the IBF, will fight Karen Chukhadzhian (26-3, 14 KOs) on May 15 in an IBF title eliminator. The winner of this bout will become the mandatory challenger for whoever wins the soon-to-be rescheduled match between IBF Welterweight World Champion Lewis “Croc” Crocker (21-0, 11 KOs) and challenger and Liam Paro (27-1, 16 KOs).
IBF No. 1 world rated Yoshida is the mandatory challenger for unified and undisputed World Bantamweight Champion Cherneka “Neekz” Johnson (18-2, 8 KOs), who is expected to defend her IBF crown against Yoshida later this year.
“If Team Joshua thinks this is an easy night for AJ,” warned Keith Sullivan, “they’ve made a serious mistake. They just walked into a very dangerous situation. Underestimate Prenga at your own risk. I understand why they chose Prenga, but I don’t think they fully understand who they chose, which is going to become very clear on fight night. Team Prenga and I have tremendous respect for AJ and what he has accomplished: extensive amateur record, two Olympic medals, three (IBF, WBA & WBO) heavyweight championships, more than a dozen heavyweight title fights, millions earned, etc. Kristian has not been as fortunate to have those privileged experiences. However, what he does have is heart, determination, strong self-confidence and power.
“This is clearly a lose-lose situation for AJ. If he wins, he is criticized for his opponent selection; if he loses, he is beaten into retirement. I would hate to be in AJ’s shoes or mindset for the next 13 weeks.
“Joshua is a great fighter but KP isn’t coming to participate – he’s coming to shock the world!”
Now residing in Edgewater, New Jersey, Prenga is riding a 16-fight win streak into his bout with Joshua. The former North American Boxing Association (NABA) heavyweight champion has the determined disposition that will allow him to avoid all the noise about his next fight. A triumph over Joshua will cement Prenga as the Albanian heavyweight GOAT.
“I really appreciate my manager, Keith Sullivan, working hard to create an opportunity of a lifetime for me. Keith promised we would do big things together and he delivered,” Prenga added. “AJ is a great fighter. I like him and how he conducts himself in and out of the ring. But fight night is going to be a war and I am walking out victorious; that’s the way it’s going to be”
Should Prenga upset Joshua, the proud Albanian would most certainly be pleased to step in as Fury’s opponent in place of Joshua later this year.
In addition to managing Prenga and Yoshida, Sullivan also manages undefeated Brooklyn heavyweight prospect Pryce Taylor (11-0, 7 KOs), Bronx NYPD officer Nisa Rodriguez (4-1, 2 KOs), lightweight Fei Faiva (6-0-1, 4 KOs) and featherweight prospect Brooklyn Barwick (4-1, 4 KOs). Sullivan co-manages Paddy Donovan (14-2, 11 KOs) and his cousin, middleweight Jim Donovan (2-0, 1 KO), alongside coach and ex-world champion Andy Lee.

NEW OPPONENT, SAME MISSION: ATIF “LORD PRETTY CALVO” OBERLTON IN FULL FORM, AHEAD OF MAY 9 CHAMPIONSHIP EVENT
ATLANTA, GA (April 27, 2026) — Undefeated light heavyweight contender Atif “Lord Pretty Calvo” Oberlton (15-0, 13 KOs) is locked in as he nears closing out camp ahead of his co-main event appearance on Saturday, May 9 at Gateway Center Arena in Atlanta. He will defend his WBA Continental Americas and WBC USA Light Heavyweight titles against former IBO World Champion Carlos Góngora (22-3, 17 KOs) as part of a stacked night of BIG TIME BOXING USA action, headlined by Angelo Leo vs. Ra’eese Aleem for the IBF Super Featherweight Championship.
The bout, presented in association with Manny Pacquiao Promotions and Route 30 Promotions, headlines a high-stakes fight card aimed at reestablishing Atlanta as a destination for elite-level boxing.
The event will stream live worldwide on DAZN, at 8 p.m. Tickets on Sale at Ticketmaster.
Góngora is a real test — a seasoned, durable former world champion who has never been stopped and has proven himself against high-level competition. His only defeats have come by decision against top fighters, including Lester Martínez (20-0, 16 KOs), Christian Mbilli (29-0, 24 KOs), and Lerrone Richards (19-1, 4 KOs). He also holds a win over Chris Pearson (17-5, 12 KOs) and is best known for his dramatic 12th-round knockout of Ali Akhmedov (25-2, 17 KOs) in 2020, showing he remains dangerous from start to finish.
Atif comes into this matchup on a run of dominance, with his last seven wins all coming by stoppage. Most recently, he knocked out Joseph George (13-2, 8 KOs) in the first round on the co-main event of Claressa Shields vs. Franchon Crews-Dezurn, ending the fight before he could fully showcase his range. Against a fighter like Góngora, a clear decision win moves him forward — but a stoppage sends a statement. It reinforces his position in the division, pushes him up the rankings, and brings a world title within reach.
The Philadelphia native returned to Pittsburg for training camp under the guidance of coach Tom Yankello, locked in throughout camp, elevating every layer of his craft as he prepares to defend his titles and continue his climb toward a world title opportunity May 9.
Here’s what he had to say as he closes out camp:
Atif acknowledges the opportunity in front of him, but says his mindset and preparation remain the same regardless of opponent.
“I got full respect for him and what he’s accomplished — he’s a tough guy, former world champion for a reason,” Atif said. “But my confidence is in my work and what we’ve been doing in camp with my coach. We treat every opponent the same, like a real threat, and we prepare the same way every time. This is what we train for. I’m going to go out there and do what Lord Pretty Calvo does. At the end of the day, he’s just another body in the way of me and a world title.”
Atif says he isn’t focused on forcing a finish, trusting his preparation and approach to dictate how the fight unfolds.
“I’m not going in there looking to rush a stoppage,” Atif said. “If it comes, it comes — forcing it is never the answer. I’m going in there relaxed, just doing what I do. That’s something Terence Crawford taught me, and it’s really taken my game to another level. At the end of the day, I’ve been beating on grown men my whole life. When I won Golden Gloves at 17, I was already in there with guys who were older, bigger and had more experience than me. This is just another day at the office.”
Atif says this fight is about expanding his presence into a new market and taking over another major city.
“It means a lot to me, introducing Lord Pretty Calvo to Atlanta,” Atif said. “I’ve always been a fan of their culture and their music — shout out to Young Thug, Wham, Young Nudy, 21 Savage, Belly Gang Kush, YK Niece. For me it’s just a takeover. I wanna take over the world, Pinky — and Atlanta is just the start.”
Atif says this version of “Lord Pretty Calvo” is about elevation in every detail, from his appearance to his performance in the ring.
“When you look good you feel good, you fight good. I’ve been working on every part of me to make sure I show up and show out on fight night. The more updated version of Lord Pretty Calvo this camp is continuing to lock in and working on my skin care routine,” Atif said. “Looking more handsome like I always do. I plan to look better every fight in and out the ring, using the jab and the tools Tom gave me to go out there and dominate my opponent and make it look pretty.”
Atif credits his role model Pernell Whitaker for his style, while making it clear the division still hasn’t seen the full version of him.
“Pernell Whitaker is my favorite fighter of all time and that’s who I model myself after,” Atif said. “I see myself being the greatest fighter of all time. I got the speed, the sharpness, the power, the IQ. What my weight class hasn’t seen yet is me fully showing all my skills because every time I fight I pull a new bunny out the hat — I’m always doing new magic tricks. Shout out to Tom, I appreciate that”.
Atif says this camp wasn’t about one adjustment, but sharpening every layer of his game.
“There’s not just one thing that’s sharper about my game coming into this camp than it was in Detroit,” Atif said. “I feel like everything is sharper. If you think you’ve seen a beautiful jab from me, you’re going to see an even more beautiful jab this time. Whatever my opponent brings, I’m going over top of that — I’m bringing everything that needs to be brought.”
Atif says his preparation remains consistent, staying ready for every scenario whether the fight ends early or goes the distance.
“I prepare the same way I always prepare,” Atif said. “I’m always training my butt off, running the extra mile, doing the extra rounds. I don’t look for the knockouts, they just happen. I just did 15 rounds the other day, five different people back to back. It makes no difference — I’ma come ready and trim everytime.”

DAVID BENAVIDEZ LOOKS TO MAKE HISTORY IN CRUISERWEIGHT DEBUT HEADLINING CINCO DE MAYO WEEKEND ACTION THIS SATURDAY!
LAS VEGAS – April 27, 2026 – Undefeated two-division champion David “El Monstro” Benavidez will look to make history as he jumps up to the cruiserweight division to headline a stacked Cinco de Mayo weekend against unified WBA and WBO Cruiserweight World Champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez in the main event of a PBC Pay-Per-View available on Prime Video this Saturday, May 2 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The 29-year-old Benavidez can become the first fighter to win full world titles at 168, 175 and 200 pounds if he can grab the belts from Ramirez in a first-of-its-kind Mexico vs. Mexico matchup that will also serve as Benavidez’s first foray into the cruiserweight division.
“Continuing to move up and challenge world champions shows everyone that I’m serious about what I do, and that I believe in my skills 100%,” said Benavidez. “Making more history on May 2 would mean the world to me. At this point in my life, I just want to reach greatness. Winning these titles will definitely put me back in position to continue to push for more greatness. I’m just really happy with where I’m at in my career, and with all the risks I’m taking, because I believe it will all pay off when my career is all said and done.”
With this move up in weight, Benavidez plans to use the extra weight to his advantage, and combine newfound power with the speed and combination punching that’s made him so devastating at super middleweight and light heavyweight.
“I feel like this weight is definitely gonna help me,” said Benavidez. “Once you get to this weight, the punches are bigger. When you combine that power with my speed, I bring something to the cruiserweight division that hasn’t been seen since James Toney. My speed is superb and it’s just on a different level. This is gonna be the best David Benavidez that you see.”
Trained in Miami and then Las Vegas leading into May, Benavidez also explained how he’ll be entering this fight with no concerns about making weight for the first time and detailed how that will help him be at his best on May 2.
“My training camp hasn’t really changed, but this is the most stress-free I’ve ever been,” said Benavidez. “Training is always gonna be hard, but I got to the weight a week ago already. I’ve never been in a position where I don’t have to worry about the weight, and that’s gonna make me more dangerous.
“When you cut weight you’re running like seven miles every single day. Right now I don’t have to run at all. I don’t have to deplete myself, and I can use that extra energy in the fight.”
The reigning WBC and WBA champion at light heavyweight, Benavidez does believe that one day he’ll eventually try to make a run at a heavyweight title. However, that time is not now as his intent is still to go back to 175-pounds and unify all the titles.
“A heavyweight title would be great for my legacy, but I’m not interested in that right now,” said Benavidez. “If I go up to heavyweight, that will be later in my career. I want to go back down to 175 and win all the rest of the belts and reign there for a little bit. I definitely think heavyweight is in my future, but not right now.”

Xander Zayas Signs Multi-Year Extension with Top Rank
(April 27, 2026) — The Puerto Rican star who began as a teenage prodigy and developed into a unified world champion is continuing his journey with the team that believed in him from the start.
Xander Zayas has signed a multi-year contract extension with Top Rank, keeping boxing’s youngest current two-belt titleholder with the promotional powerhouse as he enters the biggest fight of his career thus far.
The 23-year-old Zayas will defend his WBO/WBA super welterweight world titles against former unified welterweight world champion Jaron Ennis on Saturday, June 27 in Brooklyn, New York LIVE on DAZN PPV.
“We signed Xander at 16 and have watched him grow from a gifted teenager into a unified world champion,” said Top Rank President Todd duBoef. “He won his first world title at 22, unified in his first defense, and is now preparing for the biggest fight of his career thus far. This successful partnership has grown his profile throughout the sports world and reinforces our confidence in Xander’s future.”
“I’m blessed to continue representing Puerto Rico at the highest level of the sport with Top Rank,” said Zayas. “Thank you for all these years and for giving me the opportunity to grow and bring glory to my country and family. Now it’s time to keep collecting victories and championships for many more years with the Top Rank family.”
“Xander’s path is a testament to Top Rank’s ability to develop talent the right way,” said Peter Kahn, Zayas’ manager. “We signed with them when he was just 16, and they’ve done a great job guiding him into a unified world champion. They also understand the Latino audience better than any promoter in boxing. Extending this partnership was the right strategic move as we now focus on more unifications, multiple divisions, global events, and defining Xander as one of the faces of the sport while building a lasting legacy at the highest level.”
Zayas (23-0, 13 KOs) made history in March 2019 when he signed with Top Rank at age 16, becoming the youngest fighter ever added to the company’s roster. He steadily developed into one of the sport’s top young contenders, capturing regional titles in 2022 with victories over Elias Espadas and Alexis Salazar before rising to the No. 1 position in the WBO rankings. In July 2025, he defeated Jorge Garcia to capture the WBO super welterweight world title less than two months shy of his 23rd birthday. In his first defense, he became the first Puerto Rican to unify world titles on the island by outpointing WBA champion Abass Baraou in January.

“I’m looking forward to competing and picking up where I left o?. As I said. The landlord will collect his rent. That is certain.”
Over the past eight years, Joshua has been central to some of boxing’s biggest heavyweight events, capturing and unifying world titles with landmark wins over Wladimir Klitschko, Joseph Parker, Kubrat Pulev, and Andy Ruiz Jr.
He has also shared the ring in high-profile clashes against Oleksandr Usyk, Daniel Dubois, and Francis Ngannou, headlining several global stadium events including Wembley Stadium and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The 35-year-old, who turned professional in 2016, will be competing in the highest-profile bout of his career to date, marking his first appearance in a major international main event.
Prenga said: “Anthony Joshua is a great fighter, but he made a terrible miscalculation in picking me as his opponent. This is the kind of fight that changes everything in my life and his.

“I feel like I’ve got a job to do and become a role model for the young girls who will be watching across the country and around the world to show that this could be them one day. It’s a privilege. I don’t see it as pressure. I’m so blessed to be in the position I am in and to have had the opportunities I have had.
“All I want to do is inspire that next generation to follow im my footsteps and chase their dreams.
“When I first turned pro, I thought I might have 15-20 fights. Now, I feel like I’m just getting started. It’s been an incredible career so far, boxing around the world to coming home and headline in my 17th fight. I really do feel like we’re just starting to scratch the surface.
“Obviously, getting to World Title level in 10 fights, I moved really fast. But it’s been nice to have had 2025 to go back, work on things and really develop. I’m really excited for what 2026 and beyond will look because I feel like you’re starting to see the best version of me now.
“I feel like I’ve gone from girl to woman. I have changed so much. Not just in the ring but outside the ring, as a person and as an athlete. I live the life. Obviously I’d been to the Olympics and that felt to me like that was my ceiling – it was the pinnacle. So turning pro almost felt like it was a bit of fun. But the journey I have been on, and how serious it has been, this is literally my life now. I take it very, very seriously and I feel like it has grown and developed me as a person.”
Nicolson faced-off with Turner at the weekend as they get set to trade verbal blows at Monday’s Press Conference – starting at 1pm local time and available to watch on Matchroom Boxing’s official YouTube channel.
Nicolson knows that Turner will be doing everything she can to try and cause a major upset on Wednesday – but has warned that she is feeling unstoppable and ready to enter an exciting chapter in her career,.
“Right now I am hitting my peak. I’m entering my best season,” said Nicolson.
“I definitely do not feel like the end is on the horizon. I don’t have a date in my head to say when I’m done. My team around me will know when. But, like I said, we are just getting started. And I think I am going to be in some really big fights.
“We’ve prepared for the best Mariah Turner. We know the best version of her is going to turn up and that she’s coming to try and win. This is her opportunity. It is her golden ticket. So, I have taken my camp very seriously and you can see in my shape that I’m in the best shape of my life. We have not take Mariah Turner lightly and we won’t look past her.
“I know that I get asked about the other big fights that are – or could possibly be – on the horizon. But all eyes on strictly on April 29 and Mariah Turner.
“She’s standing in my way for all the big fights, so I need to do big things on Wednesday nigt before we even begin talking about all of that.”

Micky Scala dominates Braulio Rodriguez on April 18th
| New York (April 24, 2026) — Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing enjoyed a standout weekend across the country, as rising prospects Alex Vargas (15-0, 5 KOs) and Micky Scala (13-1, 7 KOs) each delivered statement victories on back-to-back nights.
On Friday night, Vargas continued his unbeaten rise under the bright theater lights of Madison Square Garden, earning an impressive victory on one of boxing’s grandest stages. Performing before an enthusiastic live crowd and an international audience on ESPN+ at the famed venue, the Long Island native once again demonstrated why he is considered one of the area’s top prospects and a fan favorite. Less than 24 hours later, Scala electrified his home-state crowd in Phoenix, Arizona, delivering a spectacular first-round knockout. The emphatic finish marked a triumphant return from his hard-fought battle last September at The Paramount, as he quickly reminded fans of his explosive power. The pair of victories highlighted the continued development within the Star Boxing stable and underscored the company’s momentum in building fighters on both regional and national stages. “It was an exciting weekend for Star Boxing,” said Star Boxing President Joe DeGuardia. “Alex Vargas delivered a strong performance with his unanimous decision victory on one of the sport’s biggest stages, and Micky Scala gave his hometown fans a moment they won’t soon forget. I’m proud of both men and excited for what’s next”. With victories in both New York City and Arizona, Star Boxing continues to build momentum as its next generation of contenders keeps making noise. |
