Hollywood, Fla.—Hall of Fame boxing promoter Don King was joined by many of the principal fighters on Saturday’s “Viva Don King II” boxing card at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla., for media workouts today inside Hard Rock Live, the same venue where the fights will be held.

Heavyweight fighters Tony “TNT” Grano (19-2-1, 15 KOs), from Hartford, Conn., and DaVarryl “Touch of Sleep” Williamson (27-6, 23 KOs), from Denver, both participated in today’s workouts and will fight in the main event on Saturday. Grano is the No. 1-ranked NABF contender and Williamson is a former top-ranked heavyweight, and the winner will win the vacant NABF title.

“I’ve done over 50 rounds of sparring with five different professional heavyweights,” Grano said of his training camp. “I give special thanks to WBA cruiserweight champion Guillermo Jones who came and worked with me.

Miami, FL–World Renown Boxing Promoter Don King did it again with another great card of excellent competitive boxing in Miami at the Casino Miami Jai-Alai. This was the first card at the newly renovated Casino Jai-Alai much to the delight of a ravenous crowd who was left begging for more. With numerous accolades, awards, lifetime achievements in the sport of boxing, and accomplishments during his career, King is often referred to the greatest promoter of all time and rightfully so.

For the main event, WBC US Super welterweight Champion Joey “Twinkle Fingers” Hernandez 21-1-1(12KO) was very impressive with a first round TKO win over tough veteran Shakir Ashanti 16-13. Ashanti, who I must note had a crazy outfit of what appeared to be skirt and pom poms attached to his legs, met Twinkle Fingers with a couple fast early punches and the two tied up in the middle of the ring. While tied up Hernandez did what all fighters should do and instead of waiting for the referee to break the action he kept punching with the free hand landing some hard punches that eventually floored the Ashanti. Ashanti was able to beat the count however it was Hernandez who then rushed across the ring and landed a number of clean unanswered shots during a fight ending flurry that ended the junior middleweight fight at 2:45 of just the first round. After the fight Hernandez was quick to grab the microphone from ring announcer Marc Lictenfield to call out Jr Middleweight contender and former 5 time world champion Cory Spinks for a fight. Spinks was not slow to climb into the ring and return fire on the microphone by telling Hernandez to “bring it on” and ”Imma stop this fool right here” which was not very well accepted by Hernandez’s hometown crowd in Miami. Spinks is looking to avenge a 2010 knockout loss to Cornelius Bundrage 31-4(18KO) on June 23rd at the Hard Rock in Hollywood Florida. The fight will be for the IBF title. Hernandez said after the fight, “I’m a bad dude when I want to be. I wiped out Shakir Ashanti like a plate of dishes in the first round—and he went 10 rounds with Cory Spinks!

The WBC #1 ranked heavyweight Bermane “B-Ware” Stiverne 22-1-1, (20 KOs) squeaked out a unanimous decision win over journeyman Willie Herring 13-11-3(4KO) from Orlando. Stiverne, a native of Haiti who grew up in Miami, controlled much of the first part of the fight with hard combinations and pressed the very tough and brave Herring. Herring had no problem standing in the pocket with the bigger Stiverne exchanging punching but was not a fan Stiverne mid-fight jaw jacking taunts and told him to “Shut up and fight”. Herring landed some nice shots at the end of round four that led to a very entertaining round 5 which it seemed the tide seemed to be turning and Herring appeared to be putting together a nice late fight rally. Stiverne hung on to take the decision however it was Herrings toughness that won the fans appreciation as was well noted after the fight. Stiverne mentioned after the fight he had injured his right hand, his money hand and he calls it, early in round two. The cards read, 79-73 twice and 77-75 on the final card, and was the same score I had. Stiverne said after the fight, “Willie Herring gave me just what I needed tonight, a chance to show all the things we’ve been working on in the gym like head movement, establishing my jab, body shots and throwing punches in bunches.” “I came to fight and so did Herring. I threw a lot of leather and he got most of it. “I took this fight and short notice but it was good to get some rust worked out. Herring is lighter and moves well so it wasn’t easy for me to land everything I threw, but he knew when I did. “It was great to be fighting where I grew up in Miami in front of friends and family.”

Former amateur standout and 2008 Haitian Olympian Azea “Haitian Hitman” Augustama 13-1(8KO) let his star shine bright with a win over Grover “The Cobra” Young, 6-7-1(3KO). The sharp Augustama often connected with blistering fast right hand left hook combos to the hard charging southpaw who himself found success early on with a couple straight left hands as well. A bizarre moment happened in the second round when Augustama landed a straight right hand and Young backed up holding his head as if he got head butted. The referee noted it as a clean punch and did not step in, so Augustama jumped on Young with a flurry of punches that prompted him to take a knee to recover still holding his head. I spoke to Augustama after the fight and he stated it was a clean punch. The end came at 55 seconds of the second round.

Marcus “Happy” Oliveira 23-1-1(23KO) was just that …’happy’ after a fast 1 punch knockout over Adam “Atom Bomb” Collins from Portsmouth, OH. The end came quickly at just :49 seconds of the first round when Oliveira landed a crushing left hook to the body which sent Collins to the canvas and unwilling to continue…………. After the fight Oliveira said ““I predicted I would win the fight with a body shot and I did. My body shot dropped him for good. The last time I saw a body shot like that was Tito Trinidad vs. Rafael Pineda. I’m a big Tito fan, so I have always wanted to land a body shot like that. “When I hit him in the face he covered up his head, so I took it to his body. “I’m ready to fight for a world championship this year. I’d fight Nathan Cleverly tomorrow.”

Tough Jr Welterweight prospect Amir Imam 4-0(3KO) from Albany, NY, now fighting out of Pompano Beach Florida, looked sharp with a convincing TKO win over rough and ready but awkward John “Big Money” Willoughby 3-12(2KO) from Selma AL. Imam landed a great straight right hand early in round one that put Willoughby against the ropes and set the tone for the rest of the fight which was of a pitbull versus a feline. Imam knocked Willoughby down twice in the first round once with a beautiful right hand and a second by way of a short left hook inside. The end came at 1:15 of the second round after a crushing right hand at which time referee Sam Burgos.

Undefeated Heavyweight prospect Trevor “The American Dream” Bryan 3-0(2KO) from Albany, NY, now fighting out of Pompano Beach Florida, kept his perfect record in tact with a hard fought unanimous decision win over young challenger Brandon Spencer, 1-3 (1KO) from Augusta GA. It took Bryan a couple rounds to get acclimated to his 283 pound southpaw counterpart’s style, but started to find a home for his double left hook and right hand combination that later proved to be the big difference in the fight. A game Spencer landed hard straight left hands and occasional desperate flurries, but was slowed by body shots of Bryan, and poor conditioning. All three cards read 40-36.

HOLLYWOOD, FLA–ESPN Friday Night Fights was live from the Diplomat Resort in Hollywood, where Henry Rivaltas’ and Shannon Briggs’ Acqinity Sports presented the “D-Day: Dominican Domination” card.

“Acquinity Sports has the best fighter on the planet, Joan Baby Tyson” Guzman, proudly representing The Dominican Republic” is what promoter Henry Rivatla exclaimed about the his contender earlier this week. Joan Guzman 32-0-1, (19 Kos) lived up to some of that hype with a brutal knock out win over Puerto Rico’s Jesus Pabon 17-3, (11 KO’s). Guzman controlled the fight with vicous punches that knocked Jesus Pabon down a total of 4 times. The fight was cleary a mismatch of skill as Pabon had a ton of heart but very little of a challange for the tough Brooklyn based fighter Guzman. Guzman took his time where it seemed at times where he seemed to hold back from attacking.

Guzman dropped Pabon with an brutal left that put Pabon down and out at 1:23 of round eight. Acquinity promoter and former heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs was vocal of the hard work Guzman has put in at the Miami gym of Brigg’s former trainer Herman Caicedo.

Previsouly Guzman has dealt with adversity, despite capturing belts in the junior-lightweight and lightweight divisions. The label was placed on Guzman after he failed to make weight for title fights against Nate Campbell and Ali Funeka. Moreover, the Nevada Athletic Commission suspended Guzman for eight months after he tested positive for a banned substance before another bout in December 2010. Guzman, 32, now feels rejuvenated. Free of his suspension he has begun his run for a third world title and to repair his reputation.

The opening on air bout showcased local Miami contender Welterweight Ed “The Lion” Paredes (30-3-1, 11 KOs) in impressive fashion over late replacement Manuel Leyva (21-5, 12 KOs). Paredes successfully defended his WBO an WBC Latino titles while representing the Dominican Republic. Paredes started the fight with sharp punches while his southpaw counterpart retreated trying to stay away from Paredes’ sharp hard right hands. Paredes found an early home for his right hands and hurt his Mexican oponent in the third round with blistering straight rights and uppercuts. Paredes had Leyva hurt in the third and applied steady pressure but seemed to let Leyva recover and survive the round. Paredes continued with the pressure and dropped the Mexican twice in the fifth both times with an excellent left hook right uppercut combination and again Leyva survived the round while punching on his feet quit admirabley. The brave Mexicans’ survival came to an end came at 1:29 of round seven when Paredes dug a deep left hook to the body and a right uppercut that crumbled Leyva ending the bout with Sam Burgos wisely calling a halt to the beating.

In a middleweight chess match of a bout Taureano Johnson 7-0(5KO) remained perfect while outpointing tough Brazilian Edvan Dos Santos Barros 13-13. Johnson commanded the fight with pressure while Barros fought cautiously seldom offering exchanges. Johnson swept all cards 60-54.

The opening bout of the night was an exciting brawl that left Anthony Castellon 0-0-1 and Tommy Bryant 2-4-1 to a majority draw. The two welterweights slugged however both seemed to have lost steam in just the four round bout. The final round saw both fighters slow and tired but punching. The cards read 39-37 for Bryant and two deadlocked at 38.

Light heavyweights Abdulah Dobey and Jerrod Caldwell had an opportunity of a lifetime when their bout was shown as the final bout of the live ESPN show. The bout was a rock’em sock’em robot affair that ended in a draw. The fight was ugly but entertaining while the two kept very busy. The cards read 39-37 40-36 and 38 38.

Super Middleweight Umberto Savigne improved to 8-1 with a crushing knockout win over Franck Paines 11-3.

Featherweight Claudio Marrero 11-0(9KO) captured the WBC FECARBOX title with a dominating unanimous decision win over Gerardo Zayas 18-19(11).

Undefeated Flyweight prospect Patricia “Patty Boom Boom” Alcivar 5-0 (3KO) is ready to make a big statement while showing the boxing world what she is made of. September 23, 2011 (Hollywood FL)–Tonight’s main event with former NABA lightweight champion Edner Cherry 28-6-2 and former IBF lightweight Champion Eric Aiken 16-8(12KO) ended in bizarre fashion at the end of round one. Seconds before the bell the two got into a mean exchange that lasted just beyond the bell. As Cherry kept punching Aiken relaxed at the bell and Cherry threw an extra punch, a beautiful left hook ala Mayweather sucker punch that floored the former champion and he was out on the canvas for a few minutes. Frank Gentile had no choice but call a stop to the fight as Aiken was clearly affected by the huge power shot after the bell. Clearly unintentional but a good call in the end. The fight was officially delcared a No Contest. On February 17 2007, Cherry lost a competitive decision to former Junior Welterweight world champion Paul Malignaggi in an HBO Boxing After Dark main event. In 2008 he dropped a decision to undefeated WBC and WBO Junior Welterweight champion Timothy Bradley and has come back with 4 KO wins since the most recent coming in January of this year.

In a very competitive welterweight match up Miami’s Damian “Devo” Frias 19-4 10KO) fought hard to a TKO victory win over Henry Crawford 22-2(9KO) fighting out of Patterson New Jersey. Frias, a southpaw, was the more accurate puncher in a chess match that brought boos from the crowd early on, however in my opinion did not deserve it as the two fighters fought hard and showed nice skill and great defense prowess. Frias was steady at chopping his opponent down through the 10 rounds slowing Crawford down making his punches land hard while closing the NJ based brawlers left eye with a steady right jab and hook. This was not the most pleasing fight for the casual fan, but very competitive and a bit of a true boxing fan’s delight of a fight. Going into the ninth round Frias was bloodied and Crawford was bruised and his left eye nearly swollen shut while having taking more of the punishment throughout the fight. Frias saw his chance and turned on the heat and overwhelmed Crawford with big shots as he could not see them coming with his eye swollen shut. Frias’s unleashed the fury in round nine prompting referee Frank Santore Jr to stopped the fight at :57 seconds of round nine, officially scored as a TKO.

Miami’s women’s flyweight Marisol Miranda improved her record to 5-4 (1KO)in a tough split decision win over Chantel “Gorgeous Babe” Cordova 8-3(3KO). The southpaw Miranda pushed the action throughout the fight leaving Cordova to counter punch and often switching her stance to try and slow down the pushing Miranda. Cordova caught the Hollywood Fl based Miranda in the fourth round with a straight right hand that knocked her down but more off balance than a power punch that put her down. The cards were very close and read 57-56 Cordova 57-56 Miranda 57- 56 Miranda.

Light Welterweight Juan Copado 2-0(1KO) fighting out of Richmond Texas, was in for a rough fight when he met Tommy “Gun” Bryant 2-3-1 from Naples Fl. Braynt was very aggressive from his southpaw stance consistently attacking but was clearly out skilled by the Texan Copado who was accurate and remained calm under the attack of Bryant. The judges score 40-36 and 39-37 all in favor of Copado.

In a very action packed Super Featherweight brawl, Arron Chavez 2-2-1 from Vero Beach battled a tough Larry Yanez 2-4-1, who has been very busy to the start of his career this being his fifth fight of ‘11. This was an excellent battle between two very determined pugilists laying it on the line for the love and honor of the sport. Watching these two fighters was a pure joy from a fans standpoint to press row where no one was disappointed in the effort by these two warriors. The cards read 39-37 for Yanez 38-38 twice for a majority draw.

In the fight of the night Junior Middleweight clash Clarence Booth 2-0(1KO) and Cletus Sledin 2-0(1KO) got DOWN! These two combatants went to war and put on a hell if a show for the crowd here in Hollywood Florida. The fight started out very steady with both fighters picking their shots and it all got heated up in round two when Sledin knocked out Booths mouthpiece and the two got into a rough grappling match that resulted in Sledin body slamming Booth in which he was deducted a point. A fierce battle then ensued following the deduction where the intensity greatly increased with a ton of pressure from both fighters and Booth showing his natural boxing skill counter punching and moving nicely defending Booths raw attack. However the skill was not enough as Sledins’ pressure and will outdid Booths skill and won a close unanimous decision despite the point deduction. All three cards read 38-37.

Light Middleweight Jamal “Hitman” Charlo 8-0(4KO) unloaded a spectacular one punch knockout over Eric Draper 4-6 at 1:32 of round 1. Charlos’ speed and superior skill was evident from the opening bell and he was ever impressive with a beautiful right uppercut that landed perfectly and laid Draper out flat on the canvas without movement for a couple minutes. Great knockout!

Welterweight Ed “The Lion” Paredes 27-3-3(16KO) fought off a very tough and ready Juliano Ramos 16-5(13KO) who came after Paredes the entire fight. Ramos started very strong pressuring the taller Paredes and landing some very nice inside shots while Paredes touched the Brazilian from the outside. Ramos stuck to his game plan nicely for the opening few rounds pushing Paredes back and making the rangy brawler fight going backwards.

Paredes adjusted and started to create distance landing cleaner punches midway during round three which slowed Ramos down and turned the early momentuem into his direction. Ramos slowed as the fight wore on and Paredes got stronger landing bigger shots wearing the tough and tested Ramos down. Regardless Ramos stalked The Lion down looking to get inside but the sharp punching Paredes did his damage breaking his Brazilian counterpart down until a big right hand in the eight dropped Ramos, who got up slowly and staggered just enough to have Telis Assimenios wisely wrap him up and wave him into safety at 2:07 of the eighth.

WBC’s #8 ranked lightweight Richard Abril 16-2(8KO) dropped and stopped Sergio Rivera 25-8(16KO) fighting out of Mexico, with a big right hand to the body in the fifth round. The punch was initially called low however Rivera refused to continue. The blow was very suspect as far as being low and it would look like Rivera took an early siesta on a good body shot. Abril set the pace early with a steady diet of jabs and straight right hands and outclassed the tough Mexican showing superior hand speed and landing at a high percentage. The fight was called a TKO 1:28 in the fifth round. Abril has his sights set on WBA Champion Brandon Rios and hopes to soon see him on the other side of the ring.

Heavyweight prospect Luis “El Mercedes” Ortiz 13-0 (11KO) took the TKO win over Arron Lyons 12-11(9KO) from Mississippi. Ortiz clobbered and bloodied Lyons throughout the fight with thunderous shots and impressive speed, all while quickly maturing in the professional ring. While taking a nasty beating, Lyons was able to land a few shots but none seemed to faze the former world amateur champion Ortiz who had 381 fights before entering the pro ranks. It will be interesting to see how Ortiz would do with the top of ranks which he should be ready for in a few fights of tougher opponents. Ortiz looked sharp but may need to work on turning his punches over a little more as many of his power shots were somewhat palming the inferior opponent. Ortiz, who is working at fast tracking his way to the top of the heavyweight ranks, holds both the WBA Federation and the WBC FECARBOX titles which were not on the line tonight. Lyons was cut badly early in the fight and by the end of the seventh the ringside physician had advised the fight to be stopped. In the end Ortiz did his job and disposed of the tough but outclassed Lyons.

In a 105 lb hotly contested bout among a raucous crowd Carlos “el Chocorritonito Buitrago 20-0 (15KO’s) squared up against a fiery Mexican fighter Felipe Riveras 9-9(4KO). The first round were “choc” full of good exchanges and jeers from the crowd with both men getting in some nice shots to oohs and ahhs of the Nicaraguan and Mexican fans. The second round was more of the same with both men getting off some great shots with an extra dose of showmanship from Rivas before the end of the round. Third round was more of Riva getting off the better and cleaner power shots. The 4th ended up with more of the same all Rivas. The 5th round there was a shift in the momentum with Buitrago starting to get off the cleaner shots with Rivas doing more of the Ali shuffle then boxing. The 6th round showed a clear shift in the action with the Nicaraguan starting to dictate the action and dominate the fight. The 7th and 8th rounds gave the crowd a little less action with Buitrago and Rivas going back and forth equally with not man winning the rounds in spectacular fashion. The ninth and tenth rounds gave us more back and forth leaving a nail biting decision for the crowd to wait on.

Lightweight Yoelvis Gamboa 7-0(3KO), the younger brother of WBA and IBF Featherweight World Champion Yorkies Gamboa was successful in stopping iron chinned and clearly out matched Larry Yanez 2-3. Referee Frank Gentile stepped in and saved Yanez at 1:54 of the fourth round. This fight could have easily been stopped a stanza earlier.

In a youth vs. age bout Super Bantamweight Cuban amateur star Yoandris Salinas 16-1(7KO) pressured veteran fighter Felipe Almanza 18-27(9KO) from the opening bell and controlled the entire fight with commanding ring generalship and aggression. Salinas was relentless and landing big shots on the Colombian Almanza and in the 3rd the Cuban landed a vicious left hook right hand the floored Almanza who was unable to reach his feet at the count of ten. The end came at 2:35.

June marks the beginning of hurricane season and graduation ceremonies in South Florida. Last night at The Seminole Hard Rock Live, a healthy crowd of vocal fans witnessed the pugilistic equivalent of both. The Heavyweight Factory promoted an 8-bout card titled: “Hollywood Fight Night” featuring a rising star, two veterans in search of an elusive world title and two former world champs seeking to regain former glory. The exceptionally-matched fights highlighted a herculean effort from under appreciated boxing matchmaker Johnny Bos. Bos, a member of the Florida Boxing Hall of Fame, worked tirelessly through Friday and into Saturday to secure the right fighters for the right fights.

Heavyweight veteran Cedric “The Boz” Boswell (35-1, 26 KOs) single-handedly defended his NABA and WBC Latino belts against Kertson “Warrior” Manswell (20-3, 15 KOs) in the 10-round main event. The 41-year old Boswell started strongly with chopping right hands to serve notice to his Trinidadian opponent, forcing Manswell to raise his guard and shoulder high in defense. Boswell followed up with a quick 3-punch combination as he started to dictate the pace. Manswell fired back a probing right hand to the body and hooked Boswell’s head in a clinch as the round ended.

The second round saw Boswell land a wicked 3-punch combination as Manswell unwisely turned to referee Frank Santore Jr. to complain of a prior right hand he felt strayed low. “The Boz” followed this up with a swift left hook upstairs. Santore stepped in to warn both men for hitting behind the head. The warning apparently wasn’t heeded as Boswell fired a long right hand that caught Manswell to the back of his head. It appeared Manswell may have turned away from the punch, which caused him to crumple to the canvas. Referee Santore Jr. started a standing-eight count but changed it into a 1-point deduction for Boswell. As action resumed, Boswell fired a stump of a jab to stun Manswell, followed by quick, short combinations to the head. Manswell responded with a clean right uppercut to close the round.

Boswell bid farewell to his right-hand punches in the third round after landing a short right hand to Manswell’s head. “The Boz” pelted Manswell with crisp jabs and meaningful left hooks throughout the stanza. By the fourth round, it became evident Manswell was fighting a one-armed man. Amazingly, Boswell continued to hold his own behind an active jab and left hook. By the seventh round, Manswell seemed to understand his tactical advantage and opened up with strong left hooks of his own. Undeterred, the Detroit native trash-talked the advancing Manswell in the 8th and 9th rounds while peppering him with every left-handed blow in his arsenal.

Boswell circled away to his left in the tenth and continued to give Manswell a verbal and physical lashing. Manswell switched to the southpaw stance to attempt an even greater tactical advantage. Boswell’s lead on the scorecards was too great however as judges awarded him the unanimous decision victory with identical scores of 98-90. After the fight, Boswell confirmed he injured his right shoulder: “Whooping him (Manswell) upside his head.” Having Boswell and fellow heavyweight Jameel McCline in the same room was apparently bad for Boswell’s shoulder, since the injury appeared to be the same rotator cuff tear suffered in his only career blemish: a 10th round TKO loss to McCline. (McCline sat at ringside during last night’s bout.)

The co-main event showcased Detroit native and top-rated light middleweight prospect Domonique “3D” Dolton (11-0, 6 KOs) attempting to move up to middleweight to “graduate” to his first professional career regional belts (The vacant NABA USA and WBC FECARBOX titles). Dolton needed every bit of his Kronk Gym boxing pedigree to hold off a relentless challenge from Lithuanian Donatas Bondorevas (12-3-1, 3KOs) to earn a majority decision victory in his first 10-round bout. Playing the role of matador to the bullish Bondorevas, Dolton dazzled with exceptional footwork and defense throughout the early rounds. Controlling the pace and the distance behind accurate combinations, Dolton opened a cut over the Lithuanian’s left eye in the first.

“3D” continued to stymie Bondorevas with fluid movement and crisp punches as action headed into the sixth round. Dolton fired a left hook to the body which prompted a low blow response from Bondorevas. The punch floored Dolton as he yelped in pain. Taking about forty seconds to recover, Dolton resumed his attack with a right hand/left hook combo to restart the blood flowing from Bondorevas’ cut.

Bondorevas found his range by the seventh behind solid right hands that tested Dolton’s chin and conditioning. The added weight and rounds started to favor the Lithuanian heading into the later rounds and both men slowed their attacks slightly from the furious pace. Bondorevas found an opening for his right uppercut in the eighth and started to stun Dolton before short-circuiting his own attack with another low blow. Again Dolton fell to the canvas and referee Sam Burgos issued Bondorevas his second warning. Dolton walked it off and a brawl started taking shape with the blood flowing from the Lithuanian’s left eye.

Bondorevas lost his head and a point in the ninth as he jumped into Dolton with an attempted flagrant head-butt on a break to force Burgos to administer the 1-point deduction. Dolton regained his earlier form in the tenth to keep the action in the center of the ring with refreshed footwork and defense. Bondorevas still had a surprise for Dolton as he forced him to the ropes behind a left hook to the body and a left uppercut to the head that floored him as the final bell rang. Dolton beat the standing-eight count and awaited the judge’s decision, which came with scores of 95-93 (twice) and 94-94. Dolton’s perfectionist nature came out as he explained: “Some guys have awkward styles. I had to learn how to adjust. I knew I was setting him up but I just had to throw more. Sometimes there are rough fights, but you have to deal with them.”

The action-packed undercard featured IBF #14-ranked super-featherweight Daniel “The Prophet” Attah (26-7-1, 9 KOs) against John “The Real Digg” Trigg (18-36, 6 KOs) in an 8-round contest. Fresh off a disappointing decision loss to Filipino Michael Farenas in California two weeks ago, Attah was determined to notch the win. The Nigerian-born southpaw opened up a cut to Trigg’s forehead in the opening round with blazing right hooks. The game Trigg found openings for left hooks and continued to advance towards Attah, eating combinations for his trouble. “The Prophet” poured on the punches to open a cut over Trigg’s right eye in the second round. Heads came together in the fourth; which exacerbated the cut over Trigg’s right eye, yet he continued to move forward.

Attah continued to hold the speed advantage but felt Trigg’s body shots and overhand rights. Trigg complained to referee Frank Santore about Attah’s clinches in the sixth round. Nothing seemed to slow the tough-as nails Trigg except Attah’s huge left hand leads which repeatedly landed on the increasingly bloody face of Trigg.

Trigg saved his best for last in the eighth, scoring a right hand as Attah backed to the ropes. Sensing an opportunity, Trigg fired another right to send Attah to the floor. Attah vehemently complained of a slip but Santore Jr. applied the standing eight-count as the bout came to a close. Judges scored it 79-73 and 78-73 (twice) for “The Prophet.”

The expected slugfest between former undisputed cruiserweight champion O’Neil “Give ‘Em Hell” Bell (26-4-1, 24 KOs) and WBA light heavyweight world champion Richard “The Destroyer” Hall (30-8, 28 KOs) got the crowd roaring in their 10-round cruiserweight battle. Bell, who recently changed his name to “El Yun El,” landed repeated right hands to Hall’s head in the first half of the opening round. Hall, tentatively measuring his fellow Jamaican opponent, fired a right hook that caught Yun El backing up. Pinning Yun El to the corner, Hall continued his assault and shook off a counter right to land a big left hand. The two men traded heavy shots throughout the second round with Hall scoring straight lefts and uppercuts and Yun El replying with powerful rights. Hall fired a devastating left that snapped Yun El’s head back along the ropes, followed by another that left the former cruiserweight champion defenseless and prompted referee Sam Burgos to jump in and stop the assault at 1:58.

Hall wasted no time calling out undefeated WBO NABO and NABF cruiserweight champion Lateef Kayode (16-0, 14 KOs) afterwards, proclaiming: “Every belt you have belongs to me. Everyone told me to be patient but the time has come for you to grow some balls and fight me. He’s African and I’m Jamaican. Everyone knows this will make a great fight. He needs to grow some balls and quit running from me.”

In a battle of the “Beasts,” local Haitian-American heavyweight Dieuly “The Untamed Beast” Aristilde (9-4, 2 KOs) stopped Darrick “The Beast” Allen (2-9, 2 KOs) by TKO at 1:24 in the second round.

Local crowd favorite Erik “The Viking” Leander (11-1, 8 KOs) notched the eighth first-round knockout of his career by crushing 300-lb David Saulsbury (6-3, 6 KOs) with a right hand, left hook combination at 2:06 of the round. Doctors attended to the prone Saulsbury for minutes after the end of the bout as a precaution. Cuban heavyweight Yasmay “Tiburon” Consuegra (5-0, 3 KOs) maintained his undefeated record with a 3rd round TKO stoppage over Ronny Hale (1-2, 1 KO) at 2:26 of the 3rd round. Super middleweight Tracy “T-Roc” Rollins (2-0, 1 KO) of Chicago earned a unanimous decision victory of southpaw Eddie Gates (2-2, 1 KO) from Detroit in the show’s opening bout. All 3 judges scored the bout 39-36 for Rollins.

And a blistering hot sun it was today at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter Florida for today’s outdoor boxing event, “Fight for the Pink.” Jason Gavern headlined the card and proved to the crowd and the boxing world that he is a legitimate threat to all the heavyweight belts as he retained his own WBC Caribean heavyweight belt in a 7th round TKO over a very game and hard hitting Darnell “Ding a Ling” Wilson. Both men came out with bad intentions early with a smattering of hard shots from both sides in the first few rounds with Gavern the more busy fighter establishing his jab early. The middle rounds were more Gavern as he started to seemingly frustrate Wilson by not letting him set for his punches. Gavern a crowd favorite toyed with the ringside observers throughout the fight while Wilson was trying to get off the one big shot. The end came at 1:44 of the 7th round with an overhand right from Gavern that landed flush on the head of Wilson opening a huge gash prompting referee Frank Santore Jr to call a stop to the action. Gavern improves to 20-7 and this fight should move him closer if not in to the coveted top 10 rankings in the world for the big men.

In the other headliner of the day Patricia “Patty Boom Boom” Alcivar continued to impress with another gem of a performance over an extremely tough and game Savannah Hill. Alcivar led off round one with a flurry of punches connecting with several and setting the pace for the fight which would stay much of the same, Boom Boom booming shots into the face and body of Hill. Alcivar showed she was the superior fighter using sometimes 5 and 6 punch combinations all the while maintaining her composure and nimble feet. “Boom Boom” won a unanimous decision after 6 rounds of fighting winning every round on all the judges score cards and she improves her impeccable unbeaten record to 5- 0 and rumor has it she is fighting for a title sometime this year. Much more to come from this exciting young fighter.

On the undercard Swedish Heavyweight David Loy improved to 2-0 with a solid knockout of Justin Riegle in the second round. It should be noted that Loy donated his whole purse to the Fight Breast Cancer cause. Former Florida gold glover had his hands full in his pro debut with veteran Alex Cruz Medina before finally Medinas corner put a stop to the action at 1:22 in the third. Cuban Heavyweight Luis Ortiz improves his record to 7 wins and no defeats with a one sided victory of the slick, elusive now journeyman Jerry Butler. Look for Ortiz to shake up the heavyweight division over the next couple of years if he keeps focused. Finally Arturo Santiago improved to 7-3-1 in a win over Kadel Luiz Martinez in what was a very exciting back and forth match. All in all today’s fight were a success for the fighters the fans and the fight against cancer.

Former Unified lightweight champion of the world Nate “The Galaxxy Warrior” Campbell has confirmed that he has singed a contract to face tough Philly fighter Danny Garcia 20-0(14KO) on April 9th on the great undercard of the Marcos Maidana vs Erik Morales card. This card is shaping up to be one of the best undercards of the year so far with Paul Malignaggi facing Jose Miguel Cotto, Robert Guerrero vs Michael Katsidis and top middleweight prospect James Kirkland making his post prison return.

In the main even on ESPN, WBA #1-ranked welterweight Brad “King” Solomon (17-0, 7 KOs) successfully defended his WBA International belt with tactful unanimous decision victory over Demetrius Hopkins 30-2(11KO) from Philadelphia.

This fight started of slow with a definite feeling out process between these two skillful fighters. Solomon’s speed was a factor as he beat Hopkins to the punch early but not without being caught with counter punches by the skilled Philly fighter Hopkins. As the fight wore on Solomon was much busier and rocked Hopkins on occasion, not without taking a few nice shots back from the hard fighting Hopkins, who is the nephew of future Hall of Famer Bernard Hopkins. Solomon gained national attention on Friday Night Fights in front of a nationally-televised audience with a domination of formerly undefeated prospect Kenny Galarza (14-1, 14 KOs) last June. The cards read 97-93 99-91.

Cedric “The Bos” Boswell (34-1, 26 KOs) is the new NABA Heavyweight champion with a unanimous decision victory over former World Champion Oliver “The Atomic Bomb” McCall 55-11(37KO). From the opening bell Boswell did not show much respect for McCall’s power and looked sharp and much faster while firing off sharp jabs and big handed combos on McCall’s iron chin. Throughout the fight Boswell was far busier, while the hesitant McCall, who turns 46 next month, landed occasional huge bombs and hurt Boswell a couple times in the fight. The two exchanged plenty of un-pleasantries throughout the 10 round fight, but proved to be competitive jaw jacking more than anything. The official score cards read 99-91 98-92 and 99-92.

Dieuly “The Untamed Beast” Aristilde 8-4(1KO) won a slow paced fight by unanimous decision over Lujan Henderson 2-5(KO). Aristilde was off of a tough loss in which he showed the ill effects of his war with Elijah McCall showed some spryness in his step this go The cards read 39-37 and 40-36 twice unanimous decision.

2004 Cuban Olympic gold medalist Super Bantamweight Yan Barthelemy (11-2, 4 KOs) won a hard fought battle over tough Francis Ruiz 9-5(4KO). As the fight remained competitive there was a noticeable skill difference level in Barthelemy who knocked Ruiz down with a sweet left lead hand, right hook in 3nd round. The Cuban southpaw pressed the action with a high volume of punches while Ruiz put up a good fight and exchanged often with the sharp punching Barthelemy. The cards read 98-91, 97-92, 100-89.

Palm Beach-based bruiser Erik “The Viking” Leander (10-1, 7 KOs) brought his berserker attack to bear against Puerto Rican giant Albert “El Caballo” Jimenez (5-4, 5 KOs). Leander crushed Jimenez with a brutal right hook and dropped the Giant down and out at 1:20 of the first round. Official scored a KO for the Viking.

Miami FL – Undefeated Cuban Olympic heavyweight gold medalist Odlanier “La Sombra” Solis (17-0, 12 KOs) earned the right to face WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko at American Airlines Arena in Miami when he won by disqualification over World Boxing Council No. 1-ranked Ray “The Rainman” Austin (28-5-4, 18 KOs). Solis fought the fight in a defensive come forward counterpunching style that edged the 6’6” Austin. Solis rocked the giant in round five with a brutal uppercut and an onslaught of punches that put him down to the chants of Solis by the Cuban contingency. Austin rose to the count partly due to referee Tommy Kimmons taking a couple extra seconds to direct the excited Solis to the neutral corner. Austin slowly started to fight his way back in the following rounds staying on the outside and landing uppercuts. Then the fight got real excited and bizarre in the 10th round when Austin threw Solis down after an exchange in which he was deducted a point. The two fighters met in the center of the ring, Austin clearly out of gas and threw bombs on each other with Solis getting the better of the two. The fighters tangled up against the ropes with Solis back to the ropes when Austin then leaned on him causing the Cuban to be bent over the top rope with both fighters nearly falling out of the ring over the top rope. Ringside officials tried to hole the two huge fighters back from falling out all the while with Austin holding on to a rope securing the position, in what appeared to be a bid to buy time. When Referee Tommy Kimmons finally got the two giants off of the ropes while the bell rang, Austin then punched the Cuban on the final break prompting the referee to raise Solis hand in victory and awarding him the right to Klitschko. After the fight Austin said “Solis will beat Klitschko, he is accurate and has great defense, if there is any doubt it would be his chin.” Austin was actually winning on one of the cards and tied on another. The official time was 2:59 of the 10th.

Undefeated IBF Light Heavyweight champion Tavoris “Thunder” Cloud 22-0(18KO) looked sharp while defending his strap in a great fight versus the tough and tested iron chinned Colombian Fulgencio Zuniga 24-5(21KO). Cloud controlled the fight with sharp and heavy punches and winning the exchanges but not without taking shots himself. Zuniga had a decent fourth round catching the champ. Zuniga was knocked down in round five with a big right hand and Cloud poured it on to finish the round with Zuniga still standing but on unsteady legs. After taking off round six Cloud answered the bell of round seven by ringing Zuniga’s bell with a brutal right hand that was easily heard in the three hundred section of the Miami Arena. Cloud built on his lead round by round by often staggering the tough Colombian with crushing right hands and double and triple left hooks. Cloud dropped Zuniga in round twelve with a brutal left uppercut but once again the resilient Colombian survived the onslaught of the rugged Floridian Cloud. This was a great fight that left both fighters faces bloodied and beaten. As the final bell rings with both fighters swinging for the fences the great crowd in the Miami Arena went wild. The cards read 116-109 117-108 118-108. Previous to this fight, Cloud faced the stiffest test of his career in his last fight on Aug. 7 in St. Louis against Glen “Road Warrior” Johnson, the former IBF light heavyweight champion and 2004 Fighter of the Year. Cloud won the vacant IBF title from Clinton Woods at the Seminole Hard Rock on Aug. 28, 2009. Woods, always a consummate boxer, had held the IBF crown from 2004 to 2008. He held his own against Cloud, but it wasn’t enough as Cloud won the decision. Zuniga’s most notable wins came against rugged contender Antwun Echols and against a tough Mexican veteran, Jose Luis Zertuche. Zuniga has fought in world championship matches at 154 pounds, 160 pounds and 168 pounds. Last year he moved to the 175-pound limit and has notched two wins.

Former three-time world champion Ricardo “El Matador” Mayorga (29-7-1, 23 KOs) from Managua, Nicaragua, returned to the ring at middleweight to stop Michael “Midnight Stalker” Walker (19-6-2, 12KOs), from Chicago. Mayorga landed huge frequent shots from the opening bell and often fought inside taking unnecessary shots from Walker while maintaining his usual ring play tactics of taunting and playing to the crowd who was entertained by the 37 year old Mayorga. Round five was a good round for Walker and for the fans as the two brawled often and Mayorga inviting walker into the corner just to be met with a barrage of heavy shots. Walker hurt Mayorga in an entertaining round six with a huge overhand right where the Nicaraguan had to hold on to get his senses and feet back, and had momentum. Mayorga came back at the end of the round right after lying on the rope playing to the crowd and opened with heavy shots that dazed Walker. In round 9 Mayorga dropped walker but hit him while he was down and was deducted 2 points. After the deduction Mayorga hurt him with a huge uppercut that back the Chicago fighter into a corner and bombarded him with shot prompting the referee to step in at 1:09 of the ninth round.

The New York State Heavyweight Champion Darrel “King David” Madison 16-1(4KO) won a WBC elimination bout over Mike “The Sunshine State Brawler” Marrone 19-2(14KO). It was a very close first round where Marrone worked his jab well following up with an occasional combination and Madison landed with a couple nice straight lefts. As the fight wore on, it totally favored Madison who was more active and accurate leaving Marrone a bit flat footed, hesitant, and standing right in front of Madison’s punches. Madison, a slick southpaw had no problem hitting Marrone as he could not seem to reach the slick Kind David. Some great jawjacking before the fight proved to be nothing more than smack when Marrone said he was going to rename Madison from “King David” to “Burger King “when in the end… Madison served up a happy meal, as he said he would. Madison won by unanimous decision with the cards reading 100-90 98-92 99-91.

In an exciting female bout Eileen “The Hawaiian Mongoose” Olszewski 7-2-2 retained the WIBA flyweight title and gained the GBU strap with a dominate unanimous decision win over Anastasia Touktalova 13-11(2KO) from Russia fighting out of Tampa. Throughout the bout, Olszewski beat Toktoulova to the punch and counterpunched great often landing nice power shots. Olszewski controlled the center of the ring with sharp punches and when inside used great footwork to quickly get out. During her three year reign in the amateurs, Olszewski dominated the 112 lb. division, with a record of 28-0 (7 TKO’s) in the national level amateur competition and a 3-4 (2 TKO) record at the international level. All three judges 80-72

Undefeated lightweight prospect Angelo “La Cobra” Santana (10-0, 7 KOs), from Cuba and now fighting out of Miami, was impressive while he stopped John David “J.D.” Charles (6-2, 1 KO), from Corpus Christi, Texas in the third round. The official time as 2:59 of round three.

Heavyweight Erkan Teper 3-0(3KO) easily outmatched Donato DeMartiis 2-1(1KO) with a knockout win at 1:49 of round one.

In the first fight of the night on the undercard of Don Kings “A Tribute to Freedom” Cruiserweight Pedro “Machine Gun” Rodriguez 4-0(4KO) stopped Thomas “TJ” Cook 1-1(1KO). Rodriguez overwhelmed Cook at the end of the second with the referee stepping in to stop the bout at 2:59 of the second round.

Odlanier Solis: “I wanted to make Austin suffer for the things he said at the press conferences leading up to the fight. I didn’t like it when he said that when he was done with me, they were going to send me back to Cuba. Now I sent him back to Cleveland where all they have are cows.

“I wasn’t tired at all. It was my strategy to fight the way I did tonight. What’s the worst thing that could have happened? I could have knocked him out or made him look ridiculous, which I did.”

At the post-fight press conference: “I don’t think I’m fat. What I would like to do is slap around some of the newspaper writers that say I’m fat.”

Ray Austin: “Solis will beat Vitali Klitschko. He’s accurate and has a good defense. He rests and recovers well, too. The only downside I see might be his chin.

“He showed a lot. I see him being the next WBC heavyweight champion. He’s good.”

Tavoris Cloud: “I got hit with a headbutt in the second round that caused a cut over my left eye, but Zuniga was a tough guy. I knew I had better skills but he came into this fight in good shape.

“I only give my performance a “B” tonight. I will tell you I took this man seriously because I knew he would come to fight.

“I want the winner of Pascal-Hopkins tomorrow night, or Chad Dawson if he ever decides he wants to fight me.”

Fulgencio Zuniga: “Both times I went down were from headbutts. I thought I did enough to win.

“Cloud was a strong guy, a champion and a hard puncher. But I was still proud of my performance.”

Ricardo Mayorga: “I showed tonight that I can still fight. [Michael] Walker thought he had something for me, but the outcome was never in doubt. El Matador is back.”

Former Heavyweight Champion, Oliver McCall 55-10(37) was crowned the new IBF Intercontinental Heavyweight Champion tonight in Hollywood Florida at The Heavyweight Factory’s Backyard Brawl which was co-promoted by Roy Jones Jr ‘s Square Ring, Inc. McCall, faced tough former world contender Fast Fres Oquendo 31-5(21KO), who has been in the ring with a long list of who-was in the Heavyweight division, everyone from Bert Cooper to John Ruiz. Oquendo knocked out a faded Bruce Sheldon, ending his career and he had similar plans with 45 year old, fellow Chicagoan McCall.

That was not the case tonight as McCall was the busier fighter and pushed the pace, a slow pace, of the fight from the opening bell, and through final bell landing occasional big shots. Oquendo landed some meaningful hard right hands on McCalls’ iron chin; however they never phased the former world Champion. Referee Frank Gentile kept busy as the two tied up often. This fight sends McCall closer to a possible title shot and Oquendo, possible retirement after a great career. The cards read 115-113 Oquendo and 115-113 and 116-112 for McCall.

In the Co-Main event WBA International welterweight champion Brad Solomon 15-0(7KO)shined again as he successfully defended his title against rough, tough and tested Anges Adjaho 25-3(14KO). Solomon controlled the pace of this fight throughout with great slick and very fast be-first boxing while creating great punching angles. The fight was largely competitive from the opening bell with the obvious speed and skill advantage going to Solomon. Solomon was a three-time National Golden Gloves champion as an amateur. The cards read 98-92 99-91-97-93

In the first fight of the night former Cuba amateur star Yasnay Consuegra made quick work of Watson Pierre with a dominate second round KO. Consuegra dropped Pierre in round one with a beautiful straight right hand and then a great uppercut at :49 of round 2 that ended the fight with the Haitian Pierre flat out on the canvas for the count.

Former Cuban Amateur standout Inocente Fiz 5-0(3KO) battled hard on his way to a 6th round TKO over tough Anthony Woods 7-14(3KO). Fiz controlled the whole fight with accurate punches and slick footwork. The end came from a flurry of punches at 23 of the 6th round. As an amateur, Fiz won a Bronze medal at the World Championships for Cuba at light welterweight.

Local Heavyweight product Erik “The Viking” Leander improved to 9-1(6KO) with a unanimous decision win over Larry Slayton 1-3-1. Leander had the local crowd behind him as he entered the ring ready for war dressed in full Viking regalia from his long, flowing jacket to his Nordic helmet bearing horns. His hulking presence of the Viking overshadowed his boxing skills as he fought as a brawler rather than a boxer. The Viking knocked Slayton down in the 2nd round and won by a unanimous decision. All three judges scored the fight 40-35.

In a brilliant clash Cuban Yoandris Salinas improved his record to 4-0 (1KO) with a close split decision victory over a very sharp Danny Aquino 5-1(1KO). Both fighters fought valiantly throughout the fight catching each other with crisp clean shots. This fight had the feel of a championship bout while these two warriors fought hard for four rounds. I am sure the crowd felt the same as I did, as I would have loved to seen this fight go another 6 rounds. Great Fight! The cards read 39-37 Aquino and 39-37 twice for Salinas.

Russian Heavyweight Magomed Abdusalamov remained perfect at 9-0(9KO) with a TKO win over Jerry Butler 8-9 (8KO). The southpaw Abdusalamov overwhelmed Butler throughout the fight and caught him in his own corner with a number of unanswered shots that prompted referee Sam Burgos to step in and call an end to the beating at 2:39 of round 2.

The Heavyweight Factory’s’ Luis Ortiz 5-0(3KO) stepped up in competition and won by TKO8 over Francisco Alvarez 12-2(10KO). The fight was fought at a very slow two or three punch rate which drew boos from the crowd. Ortiz finally turned up the heat in round eight when he dropped Alvarez and finished the fight with several unanswered shot with referee Sam Burgos stepping in at 1:27. With a 343-19 amateur record, Ortiz took a silver medal at the 2003 World Championships and gold medal two years later. He was trained by legendary Cuban boxing coach Alcides Sagarra for seven years on the national team.

Cedric “The Bos” Boswell (32-1) Captured the NABA Heavyweight title with a KO in the 9th over Owen“What the Heck” Beck (29-7). Boswell who’s only loss came to Jameel McCline via 10th round knockout was coming off a one year layoff and did not look as sharp as he has, Beck was not exactly slick in the ring either. Boswell was by far the more accurate fighter and landed a beautiful left hook that floored Beck at 2:29 of the ninth. These the two heavies 72 pro fights between the two of them.

Miami Mayor Thomas Regalado welcomed Don King today to announce the WBC Heavyweight title elimination bout December 17th at the American Airlines Arena in Miami. 2004 Olympic gold medalist and undefeated Odlanier “La Sombra” Solis (16-0, 12 KOs), who is ranked #2 in the WBC, will be facing WBC No. 1 ranked Ray “The Rainman” Austin (28-4-4, 18 KOs) with the winner earning the right to face Vitali Klitschko for the WBC title. Solis had this to say, “This match is the key we have been missing, the chance to fight for the heavyweight championship. This is what I have been dreaming and working toward since I first picked up a pair of boxing gloves. And Austin came back with, “I feel blessed to be in this position. I’m bringing the rain and you know what comes with that: the pain.”

IBF Light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud (21-0, 18 KOs) will be facing hard hitting Colombian fighter Fulgencio Zuniga (24-4-1, 21 KOs). Cloud is coming off of a very close hard fought decision win over former fighter of the year Glen Johnson. Cloud stated, “This is going to be a great fight and a great event. I know Zuniga is a puncher, and I am taking him very seriously. After I’m done with him—which I will do—I’ve got some bigger fish to fry.”

Heavyweight Contender Mike Marrone 19-1 (14KO) will be facing Darrel Madison 15-1(4KO). He was quoted saying, “My trainer Eddie Chambers and I are going to do great things. Vero Beach [Florida] is behind me. Darrel Madison is a good heavyweight like me. His nickname is “King David.” What I want him to know is we are developing the best jab in boxing. When we are done with him, his new nickname will be “Burger King.”

Former three-time world champion Ricardo Mayorga will also be in action with an opponent to be named. “I want people to believe in me again. I have a hunger to be world champion again. I expect to win on Dec. 17.” Said Mayorga.

WBA Cruiserweight Champion Guillermo Jones 37-3 (29K0) will be defending his title against DaVarryl Williamson 26-6(22KO).

Also on the card will be undefeated lightweight contender from Cuba Angelo Santana, 9-0(6KO), undefeated Turkish welterweight Selcuk “Little Tyson” Aydin 20-0(15KO) and heavyweight Bermane Stiverne, 18-1(17KO) and a possible female fight.

In the Main event of the evening Richard Abril 13-2(6KO) won the WBC Latino lightweight title with a unanimous decision win over Jose Reyes 23-9(8KO). Abril paced himself throughout the bout picking his shots and often landing great straight right hands and stunning Reyes however seldom throwing multiple punch combinations fighting a safe and slow fight. The cards read 99-91, 97-93, 98-92.

In the Co-Main event of the evening Jr Middleweight Joey “Twinkle Fingers” Hernandez 17-1-1(10KO) from Miami won in impressive fashion by way of TKO over Saul Duran. The beginning of the end came when the southpaw Hernandez floored Duran with a heavy straight left in the second round and, after barley beating the count Hernandez jumped on Duran and finished the job at 2:28.

In the second Co-Main event of the Heavyweight Factory product Luis Ortiz 4-0(3KO) won by TKO over tough veteran Zack Page 21-30(7KO). Ortiz, who had over 360 amateur fights, floored Page in round 5 with a heavy straight left in response to boos by the crowd which motivated the Cuban fighter to turn it up a notch. Ortiz overpowered Page in the 8th and final round prompting referee Sam Burgos to step in at 42 seconds putting a stop to the fight.

Another Heavyweight Factory fighter and former University of Miami fullback James Bryant 4-1(4KO) won by TKO over Dieuly “The Untamed Beast” Aristilde 7-4(1KO). Both fighters exchanged power shots throughout the entire fight, but it was Bryant who was more effective. Bryant dropped Aristilde three times throughout the fight. The fight was called at 1:38 of the fourth when referee Frank Gentile wave Aristilde off after getting up from the final knockdown.

Light heavyweight Azwa Augustama, representing the Heavyweight Factory, improved to 9-0 with a nice knockout win over tough Reggie Pena. Azwais of Haiti, now making his home in Hollywood Florida connected with a brutal body shot then a left hook to the head that caused referee Sam Burgis to step in and put a stop to the fight. The end came at 2:14 of the fourth round.

Yordenis Ugas 5-0(3) who won bronze medal for Cuba in the lightweight division at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games won a convincing unanimous decision over Anthony “Physco” Woods 7-14 from Nassau Bahamas. Woods came out aggressive while the seasoned young Cuban fought a great counter punching fight landing numerous bit shot on the way to victory. All three judges seen the fight 40-36

Light welterweight Russian Khabib Alakhuerdiev 12-0(6KO) remained perfect with a unanimous decision win over Juan Nazario 6-3(4KO). Alakhuerdiev, who is trained by John David Jackson, often rocked Nazario who fought the entire fight going backwards, trying to stay out of reach of the southpaw, just to tie up when close. All three judges scored the fight 60-52.

Cruiserweight Nicholas “The American Showstopper” Iannuzzi 15-1(9KO) won a hard fought unanimous decision over hard hitting Colombian Jose Luis Herrera 16-8(16KO). Round four was entertaining when where both fighters where down and both beat the count. Iannuzzi dropped Herrera again in the final seconds of the sixth and final round to secure the victory. The cards read: 60-54 59-54 60-52.

Cuban amateur standout Inocente Fiz 3-0(2KO) pressured the very game and tough journeyman Jose Angel Roman 11-27(5KO) all night on the way to a unanimous decision win. The cards read 59-55 58-56 59-55.

Heavyweight Timur Ibragimov 29-2(16KO) won the WBO Inter-Continental heavyweight title with a TKO win over previously undefeated Gurcharan Singh 20-1(11KO), who represented India in the 2000 Olympics. Ibragmov, who was on the 1996 Uzbekistani Olympic Team, paced himself through the beginning of the fight and then dropped Singh in the 9th round with a huge overhand right and came out to finish the fight and dropped Singh with another over hand right that nearly knocked him out of the ring, at 1:45 of the 10th and final round.

Brad Solomon 13-0(5KO) was impressive and won the WBA International and the WBC Latino welterweight titles with a TKO win over veteran Wilfredo Negron 26-15 (19). Solomon, the former 3 time national champion was very slick and fast and often rocked the old pro Negron. The very fast athletic Solomon was coming off of an impressive win on ESPN over formerly undefeated heavy handed Kenny Galarza. Sam Burgos stepped in at 2:56 of round six after Solomon overwhelmed Negron with an onslaught of punches. The very skilled Solomon has a style reminiscent of Roy Jones Junior and is on his way to being a contender in the welterweight division. This was Solomon’s’ first fight under the Heavyweight Factory promotional company.

Former Cuban amateur star Luis “Big Thing” Ortiz 3-0 (2KO) won the WBC Fecarbox heavyweight title in just his third professional fight with a unanimous decision win over Kendrick Releford 22-14 (10). Ortiz put his punches together well throughout the fight and dropped Releford with a great left uppercut in the second round. The cards read 80-72 and 79-72 twice. Heavyweight Factory fighter Ortiz, being billed as the next great Cuban heavyweight, had over 360 amateur fights.

Heavyweight Watson Pierre 1-0, fighting out of Fort Lauderdale made a successful debut with a 2nd round KO over big Ray “Hurricane” Tillman 0-1 who was fighting out of the Heavyweight Factory in Tampa. Pierre dropped Tillman with a huge overhand right in the second and Tillman was unable to beat the count. The end came at 1:30.

Heavyweights Emmanuel Augustama 2-0-1(2KO) and Robert Turner 3-2-1(2KO) fought 4 rounds to a draw with the cards reading 39-37 40-36 38-38.

In the third fight of the night former Cuban amateur star Inocente Fiss 3-0 2(KO) looked great with a win over Reynaldo Cepeda 4-1(3KO) representing Tampa’s Fight Factory. After a competitive action packed first round. Cepeda showed great slickness and boxing while fighting hard, but Fiss was the aggressor and landed the bigger shots. The official cards read 59-55 and 60-54.

In an awesome fight of undefeated Miami Cruiserweights, Pedro Rodriguez 3-0(3KO) showed great heart with a great sixth round TKO over Abdulah Dobey 4-1(4KO). Rodriguez stunned Dobey in the second round and continued with a barrage of shots up until the end of the round putting Dobey out on his feet, Dobey was so rocked he went to the wrong corner but came out to a great round three as Rodriguez noticeably slowed and appeared to have punched himself out. Dobey started gaining ground through the middle rounds however was caught with a big comeback by Rodriguez and was dropped at 1:30 of the sixth round.

Jayce Monroe 2-0(1KO) handed Heavyweight Factory’s James Bryant 3-1(3KO) his first career loss with a split decision win in a sloppy fight. Bryant got knocked down early in the first round. The scores card read 38-37 Bryant 39-37 Monroe 38-37 Monroe

Patty “Boom Boom” Alcivar improved her record to an impressive 3-0 with 3KO’s with a dazzling TKO win over tough Denise Jacobs in Tampa. Fighting at a feverish pace Alcivar overwhelmed the former kickboxing contender with grit, determination, and a vicious flurry of combinations. Jacobs came to fight but could not withstand the constant pressure of Alcivar. Alcivar, fighting in her new division of super Flyweight said after the fight she had excellent energy, and felt very comfortable fighting at 115. The fight was stopped midway through the third round after a barrage of unanswered punches by Alcivar who is living up to her moniker Boom Boom.

Undefeated Super Flyweight prospect Patty “Boom Boom” Alcivar (2-0, 2 KO) will be back in action Friday August 13th 2010 in Tampa, Florida, squaring off against gritty former kick boxing contender Denise Jacobs (0-1.)

Currently in her best physical condition, Alcivar is coming off of an impressive fourth round TKO in May over Laura Gomez (3-2) of Mexico City, MX. Jacobs recently fought to a close decision loss to former WIBA and WBA World Boxing Champion Ria Ramnarine 13-5(Boxing) for a Pan Am Kick Boxing Championship.

Alcivar is a former amateur National and International Champion, as well as a two-time NYC Golden Gloves Champion, and is looking to stay busy as woman’s boxing continues to grow in popularity leading up to the 2012 Olympics.

Alcivar was the first female to win the coveted Athlete of the Year Award for boxing, presented by the United States Olympic Committee. The well rounded Alcivar is also a ten-time participant of the NYC Marathon & a 2-time Qualifier/Finisher of the Boston Marathon.

Boxing Promoters Don King, Gary Shaw, & Tuto Zabala teamed up with Jeff Gibson of Elite Promotions for and exciting night of Boxing and MMA in Miami Beach dubbed “Battle at the Beach VIII”.

24 year old Heavyweight Mike Marrone 19-1(14KO) had a very big knockout win over Joseph Rabotte 8-14. Marrone a former Florida Golden Glove champion looked a bit rusty while working his way back into action. He fought in spots early and never seemed to engage until he dropped a bomb of a right hand in round five at 1:49.

Marrone is currently promoted by Don King and trains out of Buddy McGirts Gym in Vero Beach ,FL and was coming off of his first career first defeat in 2008 in Germany against Francesco Pianeta 20-0(12KO’s) who is now ranked #10 by the WBO. At the time of that fight, Marrone was recovering from the passing away of his younger brother Chris due to a car accident and took time off and now is back.

Jimi “Ninja” Chaikong got his first MMA victory over Steven Jenetis who was making his pro debut. Chaikong caught Jenetis in his guard and swiftly maneuvered into a triangle which put Jenetis out when the referee Jorge Ortiz waved it off midway through the first round. Congrats to Jimi Ninja for his first win in over 10 years of professional fighting and breaking his back along the way.. literally in 2001.

In a female boxing attraction Marianne Chubirka 5-4(3KO) won a majority decision over Deneise Jacobs who was making her debut. Churika and Jacobs engaged often with Chukirka landing the heavier shots often finding a home for the overhand right with a come forward style. The cards read 38-38 37-39 40-36.

MMA- Channing Ward won by triangle choke over Danceton Holcom both making pro debut.

Luis Cruz 1-0 won a unanimous decision victory over a very game Frederico Vega 1-1(1KO) both from Puerto Rico. The two fought hard from bell to bell often slugging over boxing. Cruz who is promoted by long time promoter Tuto Zabala and showed promise in his first fight for his new promoter.

In a MMA bout Sam Jones improved to 2-0 with a unanimous decision over Guillermo Marin who was making his debut.

In an action packed light welterweight matchup Roberto Lopez 3-0-2 was relentless with punches and pressure on the way to a unanimous decision over Southpaw Xavier Burges 4-1. All three judges scored the bout 40-36, as did I.

In the second knockout of the night came by way of heavyweight Donato DeMartiis 2-0(1KO) who landed a beautiful left right combo to the head of John Ramos that put out for the count late in round one. Ramos looked determined to land the big shot with several huge handed attempts only to be knocked out himself. It was a try hard effort that got the puncher knocked out by the boxer.

MMA fighter Sidney Carlton got a walkover win over Cedric James who was a no show who showed up at the weigh in’s and not the event.

JP Reese got his first MMA win over Johanner Correa when the fight was called due to strikes at 1:45 of the second round.

Hollywood Florida–The Heavyweight Factory Promotions in association with the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood Florida once again put together a magnanimous show for all those in attendance. The average boxing fan will appreciate a middleweight fight but even the casual fan appreciates the biggest of the big, banging it out for prowess amongst the biggest of men. Tonight was filled with brain shattering blows and the crowd loved the smorgasbord of pugilism it was served up.

In the main event of the night former world champion Oliver McCall 54-10 (37KO) stepped in against the game and ready to get it on, Timor Ibragimov 28-2(15KO). The ring savvy veteran McCall started off with a game plan of jabbing on his way in and trying to set up an overhand right, the same of which garnered him his boxing namesake and knocked a then world champ, Lennox Lewis to the canvas for good. As the fight progressed the younger, slicker Ibragimov used his youth and boxing skills to pepper his elder but respected opponent. McCall’s celebrated right hand opened a cut above the left eye of Ibragimov in the 5th but a culmination of ring savvy and a good cut man got Ibragimov through the fire and ultimately his good boxing and youthful exuberance gave him a majority decision.

In the Co-Feature, Haitian Dieuly “The Untamed Beast” Aristilde 7-3(1KO) faced Cuban born Henry Fuentes 11-1(7KO) in rematch of the heavily contested initial bout they had back in 2008. Aristilde had won the initial confrontation giving Fuentes his first and only loss in the square circle. This contest was one that was not the same outcome of the initial bout. Aristilde, coming off one of the most crowd pleasing fights in this writers history over the main event Oliver McCalls son, Elijah McCall; did not look like the same fighter of yore. The Untamed Beast was in an epic war with the younger McCall some time back and may have not recovered just yet as his legs were not as fresh as they once were and his oft tested chin not as granitesque as well. Fuentes had control from the get go and made a very concerted effort to show that his artillery has expanded since we last saw him. Fuentes put away Aristilde at 2:58 of the third round. Fuentes who improved his record to 11-1 as a heavyweight may need to get a bit more aggressive in order to challenge the upper echelon of boxing heavyweights.

The night began with possibly the fight of the night with Eisa Al Dah from Bristol, UK squaring off against the game Anthony Woods of Nassau, Bahamas who has been a cornerstone of South Florida boxing for some time. Both men exchanged valiantly with the Englishman ultimately rattling off a majority decision in a closely contested, crowd pleasing majority decision.

In the second fight of the night, heavyweight prodigy Clive Lowe, making his debut, of heavyweight factory lineage squared off against Tampa native Michael Greeson. Both heavyweights exchanged valiantly and often the first round with heavy blows much to the appreciation of the crowd. As the round came to a close both fighters threw heavy left hooks with Lowe getting the first and the worst of the exchange. Lowe was knocked down as the referee deemed Lowe unable to continue while administering the count.

In the third bout of the night Miami native Yasnay Consuegra 3-0 took it to Michigan journeyman Harvey Jolly 11-15(6KO). In a less then crowd pleasing bout Consuegra improved his record to 3- 0.

In a much anticipated bout with the Heavyweight Factory James Bryant 3-0(3KO), the crowd did not get their money’s worth and did not see the chiseled, former Miami Hurricanes alumna James Bryant strut his stuff. In a fight that echoed opponent versus winner Bryant came out to the inaugural bell with bad intentions but did not get to display them. His opponent fighter, Lujan Henderson was there to smell the daisy and collect a check as without being hit with so much a solid jab took a knee and was “knocked down” twice to give Bryant the TKO win. Not taking anything away from Bryant who looked the epitome of a young, hungry and ready heavyweight.

All in all another win for South Florida boxing its fans and what the Heavyweight factory is manifesting.

Miami, FL (June 5, 2010)–Yudel Jhonson (7-0, 5 KO’s) wins with an eighth round TKO over Brazilian Juliano Ramos (16-4, 13 KO’s).

Yudell Jhonson, a Cuban Defector who won the silver medal in the Olympics in Athens, Greece looked much bigger than Ramos and was noticeably faster and more skilled. Ramos was reaching for the big shot early while getting countered often by Jhonson who often landed big straight left hands. Jhonson a southpaw controlled the fight with smart boxing and hard punches on Ramos who took the fight on short notice and was game in his attempt to outbox the puncher Jhonson. Ramos has been in with World Champions Kermit Cintron and up and coming superstar Mike Jones, however knocked out by both fighters. In the end Ramos was taking punishment from Jhonson and Telas Assimenios stepped in at of 2:39 the eighth round.

In the co-main event previously undefeated Puerto Rican amateur star Kenny Galarza (13-1, 13 KO’s) was beaten by sharp and impressive Brad Solomon (12-0, 4 KO’s).

Solomon controlled the entire fight by keeping Galarza away with great outside boxing and angles. Galarza, who has over 300 amateur fighters and a ton of power seemed to be waiting for his power shot while Solomon used his legs and size to keep the smaller Galarza away from him. Throughout the fight Solomon fought smart with long fast punches while frustrating Galarza who was deducted a point for a low blow in the sixth. Galarza never committed to an attack while leaving him short of his homerun punch. Solomon proved to be a contender and elevated his value in the welterweight division with this impressive victory. The cards read 99-90 and 100-89 twice.

In the first bout of the night Cleveland’s “Moneyshot” Yuardale Evans 8-0 (5KO) scored a nice unanimous decision over Chris “Smooth Operator” Green 3-2 fighting out of New Jersey. Evans controlled the fight with excellent jabs and strong punches knocking Green down in the fourth round. Green seemed not to have the punching power to keep Evans off of him and was often put back on his heels by Evans great jabs. A late fight cut over the right eye did not slow down the Cleveland fighter. The cards read 60-53 and 59-54 twice.

In the second d fight of the night, Cruiserweight Cuban Pedro Julio Rodriguez improved to 2-0 (2 KO) with a gift of an early stoppage over game Chris Boykins. Rodriguez commanded the fight early and landed a few heavy shots before Sam Burgos stepped in at 1:06 to spare Boykins, a premature stoppage in my opinion.

Former Cuban Amateur Star Jr. Middleweight Inocente Fiz Cuba 2-0 (2 KO) stopped Mario Ramos with the third punch of the fight. The early end came at 35 seconds of the first round with a perfectly placed body shot.

Welterweight Olympian Jonathan Gonzalez from San Juan, P.R. 8-0 (8 KO) looked sharp with a dominating TKO over Yoryi Estralla Santiago De Los Caballeros from Dominican Republic 10-3 (7 KO). The end came at 2:28 of round three when Sam Burgos stepped in to stop the action.

In attendance Yurkois Gamboa Randall Bailey Henry Fuentes Glen Johnson, Lara, Despanigne, Demetrius Andrade, Guillermo Rigondeaux, Joel Casamayor, Patricia Alcivar among other great boxing stars.

In the main event of the evening living legend Hector Macho Camacho 79-6 from Puerto Rico and NY came out to face Mexican Saul Duran 37-16-2 (30KO) in style setting the stage for a nostalgic war of Puerto Rico versus Mexico. In the first round Camacho came out jabbing but caught with a straight right hand flash knocking down Camacho who recovered to win the rest of the round with straight left hands. The second round was nothing of significance with both fighters not connecting with much more then jabs. The third round had no one fighter getting the better of the scrum with both fighters effectively working off the jab and not getting caught with anything much of substance. The 4th and 5th rounds showed the age of both the fighters some with Camacho getting a point deducted in the 5th for holding. The sixth round had Camacho coming out with more energy and landing some shots. The 7th round was a fairly even round with Camacho using the ring wisely and getting his jab off. The ninth round was a spirited round for Macho who made Duran spit his mouth piece. The 8th round was a seemingly even round as both fighters were able to land some jabs. The 9th round had Duran coming out the aggressor and he stayed the aggressor throughout the round hitting Macho man with body shots all throughout the round. Every round in the fight was marred with lots of holding often instigated on the part of Camacho to conserve energy. The final bell was met with chants of MACHO MACHO MACHO giving Hector a burst of energy in the first few seconds. The round was status quo with a lot of jabbing and hugging. In the end the judges had it 97-91, 97-91, 96-91 all for the winner Saul Duran. In the end there was only thing that could put an end to Camacho’s illustrious career and he goes by the name of Father Time….

In a Co-Main Event, former National amateur champion Patty “Boom Boom” Alcivar 2-0(2KO) and Laura Gomez 3-2 from Mexico stepped into the ring to battle and indeed they did just that. Alcivar hails from New York City’s Trinity gym and is trained by Martin Snow, also in her corner was Pete Kid Chocolate Quillin and Billy Padden. In the first round Patti Boom Boom came out with a tenacity not often seen in a fighter in only her second professional fight. Gomez the southpaw was befuddled by Alcivar‘s well executed game plan of moving left off the jab and setting up left hook to the body and head and occasionally throwing her big right hand. Round one was won by Alcivar but the game Gomez was a worthy opponent and she came to fight as well. The second round was more non-stop aggression on the part of Alcivar who started to work the right hand in the mix more and connect with it as well. She moved with the skill of much more seasoned fighter and slipped many of Gomez’s right hands and followed with a double left to the body and then the head and started connecting more and more as the round wore on. The third round we saw Alcivar’s overall talent level start to supersede Gomez’s and Boom Boom starting landing at will mixing in 4 and 5 punch combinations and taking the sap out of Gomez’s tree. The fight was stopped at -___ of the third round as Gomez’s corner had seen enough and threw in the towel. Alcivar moves to 2-0 and Gomez to 3-2. Alcivar credits her faith in god, great corner and hard work in her victorious effort.

In another Co-Main event Liliana Martinez 8-10(4KO) hailing from Dominican Republic got in with Jena “Cowboy” Shiver 11-4-1(2KO) hailing from St. Petersburg Florida for a 6 round bout. In the first round the “Cowgirl as Shiver is called got the best of Martinez using hard lead left hooks to set the pace. A minute in the second round the Cowgirl launched a solid right hand that momentarily staggered Martinez who recovered but that right followed by a couple more intermittently through the round. In the third round Martinez came out with a little more starch in her trunks and caught the Cowgirl with a few good punches probably winning her the round. It was another good busy round for both fighters as well. In the fourth and final round Shiver caught Martinez with a straight right hand putting Martinez on previously starched shorts from the last round. The fifth round started with both girls trying to set up a right hand but neither connected with anything of real substance and the Cowgirl got the better of the round landing more solid jabs and lead left hooks. The 6th was more of the same with the Cowgirl winning a unanimous decision over the very tough Martinez in a very entertaining match up.

For the undercard…..

In a very entertaining opening bout of the night lightweights Cesar Cisneros from Bradenton Florida and Jesus Lule from Ft Myers Florida brawled while they both made their professional debuts. Cisneros showed more technical skill while Lule showed an iron chin and huge heart. Cisneros won a very close majority decision with the cards reading 38-38 and 39-37 twice. The winner here.. the fans.

Paul Marfort made a successful debut with a dominating TKO1 over Nathon Oritz fighting out of Lakeland Florida. Marfort fighting out of Winter Haven FL had Cruiserweight contender Francisco Palacios took the first round over with a big right hand that put Ortiz into a shell and took many shots until downed at 1:47 of there first.

Former Cuban amateur standout Rances Barthelemy 5-0(3KO) won spirited unanimous decision over Milwaukee’s “Superstar” James Owens 4-1 (2KO). Barthelemy overwhelmed previously undefeated Owens early in the first. Owens survived the first and made the second round a bit more competitive but was clearly the less skilled fighter. The cards read all the cards read 40-35.

Danny Pastrana 2-1 fought hard with a unanimous decision win over Carmelo Almodovar 0-1. A bloodied Almodovar was knocked down in the second round and seemed to never regain his legs however showed amazing heart to finish the fight and fought hard to the final bell. The cards read 40-35.

Adrian Perez 5-2-1(1KO) hailing from Brazil went to work on Roger Rosa 1-2 hailing from Brazil. In a very competitive fight both fighters showed flashes of brilliance mixed with inexperience. Perez should the typical heart and valor of his Mexican brethren but ran into an equally tough Brazilian in Rosa. Rosa used straight left hand hands from his southpaw style to catch Perez and Perez was pretty effective with the lead right hand against the lefty. Both fighters put forth a very spirited effort with a very close decision going to the score cards. In the end the cards read 38-38, 38-36, and 39-37 for the winner by majority decision Adrian Perez. The crowd was both excited and equally upset with the outcome.

Former national and international amateur champion Patricia “Boom Boom” Alcivar 1-0(1KO) will be making her return to the ring for her second professional fight Friday May 14th. Alcivar will be facing tough Mexican fighter Laura “La Maravilla” Gomez, 3-1 as a co-feature of the Hector Camacho Sr. vs. Saul Duran main event at the Civic Center in Kissimmee Florida.

Alcivar ended her first fight with a boom by knocking out Jennifer Batchelder last October at 1:21 of the first. With the addition women’s boxing to the 2012 Olympics women’s boxing is back on the rise. Alcivar looks to represent the sport with absolute class inside and outside of the ring. Her fluent and exciting boxing style reveals her excellent amateur pedigree.

Alcivar is considered a pioneer in female amateur boxing. She had a brilliant amateur career having won 2 NYC Golden Gloves, a National & International Championship and was voted the first female to ever to win “Athlete of the Year” by the United States Olympic Committee. Alcivar is also a 10 time participant of the NYC Marathon & a 2-time Qualifier/Finisher of the Boston Marathon.
