Hot shot youngster, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez made the first defense of the WBC Super Welterweight title with a twelfth round stoppage over mandatory challenger Ryan Rhodes in front of over 12,000 partisan fans in Alvarez hometown of Guadalajara, Mexico.

Alvarez began to set the pace over the first three rounds by relaxing while unleashing crisp and quick combination’s that were usually ended with a few to the body. In rounds, four, Alvarez landed a right that was followed by a double and the a little right behind ear sent an off-balance Rhodes to the canvas for the sixth time in his career.

Alvarez continued his combination punch as Rhodes switched from orthodox to southpaw multiple times during most rounds.

Alvarez continued to set a workmanlike pace as he fought in quick bursts about three or four times per round as he knew that Rhodes was no threat as he didn’t fire much of anything back in return.

With the fight never in doubt, Alvarez closed the show in style as he landed some hard shots in the middle of the ring and after nine successive blows the bout was stopped in unison with the towel being thrown in from Rhodes corner forty-eight seconds into the final round.

IBF NUMBER ONE RANKED LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT YUSAF MACK PAYS HOMAGE TO LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT KING BERNARD HOPKINS

PHILADELPHIA (June 17, 2011)—Next Saturday night in St. Charles, Missouri, Yusaf Mack of Philadelphia will attempt to follow in the legendary shoes of Bernard Hopkins and capture a slice of the Light Heavyweight championship as he takes on Tavoris Cloud for Cloud’s IBF title.

Mack of Philadelphia has been extra motivated by a man he calls one of his mentors as he watched Hopkins become the oldest man to win a major boxing championship when he won the WBC/Ring Magazine crown with his win over Jean Pascal on May 21st in Montreal.

“I have known Bernard for my whole boxing life and he was one of the guys who has given me pointers and helped me throughout my career and seeing what he has accomplished and in particular what he did to Pascal gives me that extra drive and inspiration that lets me know I can win this fight”, said Mack

Mack has a record of 29-3-2 with seventeen knockouts recently attended a ceremony where the Mayor of Philadelphia, Michael Nutter presented Hopkins with gifts and recognized him for his amazing accomplishment.

“That was amazing. I was and am so proud of Bernard and being at the ceremony I just kept thinking that if can accomplish some of those things, I can achieve the same. It starts on June 25th when I beat Tavoris Cloud and bring back that IBF Belt home. Ironically it the IBF belt that Bernard first won.”

“After I win on June 25th, The Light Heavyweight division will run through Philadelphia with Bernard and I ruling the division. This has been the best training camp of my life and if Tavoris thinks he is seeing the same guy who fought Glen Johnson, then that will be his problem on June 25th.”

Cloud against Mack is part of a big fight card that will be televised LIVE on HBO.

Tickets priced at $25, $50, $125 and $300 are on sale now and can be purchased at the Family Arena Box Office, all MetroTix outlets including online at metrotix.com or charge by phone at (314) 534-1111. He suffered a cut under his right eye that doctor took a look at to start round ten.

Kayode decisions Godfrey

Lateef Kayode knocked former world title challenger Matt Godfrey on his way to a ten round unanimous decision at the Chumash Resort in Santa Ynez, CA.

Kayode dropped Godfrey with a hard right in the first frame. That seemed to set the tine for the remaining nine rounds.

Kayode, 199 1/2 lbs of Lago, Nigeria is now 17-0 and won by scores of 98-90; 97-90 and 98-89. Godfrey, 200 lbs of Providence, RI is ow 20-3

With Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach in his corner, Kayode has officially “graduated” from ShoBox, according to ShoBox color commentator and boxing expert Steve Farhood. “Kayode is what he is,” Farhood said. “Boxers are always going to give him trouble, but he graduated tonight. And now he can aim for bigger things than ShoBox, which is a compliment.”

Kayode, of Hollywood, Calif., by way of Lagos, Nigeria, knocked Godfrey to the floor in rounds one, five and nine with a devastating display of body shots and power punches to the head of Godfrey. “I thought we would finish (Godfey) off earlier, but he took some good shots,” Roach said. “It’s OK we went the distance. (Kayode) needs rounds. Overall I thought it was a good performance.”

Added Kayode, who won for the fifth time at Chumash and the third time in a row: “We said we were going to cut off the ring and that’s what we did. People here know what I can do now. They’ve seen what I can do. Now it’s on to bigger things.”

Chirs Avalos used two early knockdowns to help catapult him to ten round unanimous decision over Khabir Suleymanov in a Super Bantamweight bout.

Avalos dropped Suleymanov in round one from a good left hand. Sulemanov rebounded to have a decent second round. That would not last as Avalos landed a hard right hand that sent Suleymanov to the canvas. Avalos was deducted a point as Suleymanov bounced up almost as soon as he went down and Avalos continued to land shots and the point was taken.

Over the course of the fight, Avalos was consistent with both hands and every now and again would get hit by a shot from Suleymanov.

Avalos, 120 lbs of Albuquerque, NM won by scores of 95-92; 97-90 and 96-91 and is now 19-1. Suleymanov, 120 lbs of Hollywood, FL is now 11-1.

He came at me with exactly what I expected,” said Avalos, who bloodied Suleymanov’s nose. “But we stuck with our game plan and it worked. I hurt him with my straight right several times.”

What’s next for Avalos, who suffered his first loss on ShoBox last August? “Whoever wants it,” he said. “Whoever wants it.”

“He didn’t hurt me,” Suleymanov said afterward. “I feel fine.”

Art Hovhannisyan scored four knockdowns en route to a sixth round stoppage over Archie Ray Marquez in a scheduled eight round Lightweight bout featuring undefeated fighters.

Hovhannisyan dropped Marquez with a left hook in round two and right hands in round’s tthree and ive. Hovhannisyan dominated the fight and landed a crunching right that was followed by a thudding left that slumped Marquez to the canvas and the fight was stopped at 1:03 of round six.

Hovhannisyan, 133 lbs of Glendale, CA is now 14-0-1 with eight knockouts. Marquez, 133 lbs of Albuquerque, NM is now 11-1-1.

“I was just very confident I would win this fight,” said Hovhannisyan, of Glendale, Calif. “He’s good and he has speed but I never thought I’d lose. He’s undefeated but so am I. I’m ready now for any fight. I’m ready for anyone.”

Added Farhood: “Hovhannisyan fought a very smart fight tonight. He sucked Marquez in and he drew him right into his web.”

CRUISERWEIGHT CONTENDER B.J. FLORES RETURNS HOME TO FACE NICK IANNUZZI ON JULY 23RD IN SPRINGFIELD, MO

SPRINGFIELD, MO (June 10, 2011)—On Saturday night July 23rd, popular Cruiserweight B.J. Flores will return to his childhood home to take on tough Nick Iannuzzi for the Interim NABO and the NABA championship that will headline a hybrid card that will feature four Boxing and seven MMA bouts at the O’Reiley Center.

The shoe is promoted by Joe Kelly’s Titan Entertainment and Wes Slay Productions.

Flores, who now resides in Las Vegas has a record of 24-1-1 with fifteen wins coming by knockout will be making his fourth appearance in Springfield and first start since 2007 in his childhood home.

Iannuzzi of Tampa, Florida has a record of 16-2 with nine knockouts.

“I love fighting here and know this is the place where my roots were planted so its always exciting to come back here”, said Flores.

“”I am very much looking forward to getting back in the ring in front of my hometown Fans. This will be an exciting event with all the area’s best MMA fighters and 4 professional boxing matches! We are determined to bring a VERY high Quality show to Springfield Missouri.”

“I have been STARVING to get back into the ring! Been training like a DOG! My last fight has simply made me more hungry and determined. I can’t wait to face another hi level opponent in this tyype of make or break fight. The winner of this fight takes a GIANT step forward and the Loser takes a GIANT step backwards!! ”

In that last fight, Flores traveled across the globe only to put up a valiant effort in suffering his first professional loss to local icon Danny Green in Australia.

“The truth of the matter is, I have been waiting to get back into the ring because we were supposed to fight again in Australia and I had received countless emails and calls from them telling me of their desire to have me DOWN UNDER after the close fight with Danny Green. The people saw what they saw and for that reason Angelo Hyder and Danny wanted me back. It wasn’t until about 1 and half months ago that we found out they were moving in another direction. So I am now moving forward”

” I have a lot to learn and will be much better with keeping an active schedule and that is exactly what I plan to do. We have a great following in Missouri and I plan on fighting here every 3 months to keep me sharp and keep moving towards another title shot. Before my last fight I was off almost 16 months and you can never be at your best under those conditions. I will NOT let that happen again”!

“Nick Iannuzzi provides a great challenge. We had offered this fight to 8 different guys rated in the top ten in the US and ALL of them had turned it down except IANUZZI. This guy is coming off a very controversially loss to WBO #3 WBA #3 WBC #4 Lateef Kayode. Everyone saw the fight that night and EVERYONE except the three judges thought Iannuzzi had done enough to win the fight. He is tough and gritty and I thought he performed very well on SHOWTIME. Immediately after the fight I did a press release calling out L Kayode. However his camp responded by simply saying I am a racist and blah blah blah. Listen, I all want to do is fight! I don’t care where Lateef is from!! However, I will now look to the next best thing. Fighting the guy who all the SHOWTIME announcers had winning the fight. Nick Iannuzzi. I am looking forward to fighting for the NABO interim and NABA titles and gaining a rating with the WBO and WBA by facing a tough opponent. This fight will put me right back into position to fight another BIG fight! I am very UP for the challenge and looking forward to getting one step closer to another title shot”!

Flores is currently ranked #13 by the WBO and is a former NABA Super Cruiserweight; WBF Super Cruiserweight; USBA and NABO Cruiserweight champion

Tickets go on sale at the beginning of JULY!!!

ROLLING TOWARDS A CHAMPIONSHIP: FRANKLIN “YAH YAH” LAWRENCE LOOKING FOR A BIG FIGHT

Indianapolis, Indiana (June 9, 2011)—Frankin “Yah Yah” Lawrence is looking to get into the thick of the Heavyweight championship picture.

If nothing else, he has earned it.

With consecutive stoppage wins over contenders, Lance Whitaker, Jason Estrada and most recently Jason Gavern, Lawrence has more wins over good competition then most of the boxers that make up the top ten in the four major organizations

Lawrence has a record of 15-2-2 with ten knockouts could conceivably be on a fourteen fight unbeaten streak if not for a controversial decision loss to former WBC Heavyweight champion Oliver McCall.

That did not deter Lawrence as on September 11, 2010 he stopped Whitaker (35-6-1) in Seven rounds. He followed that up by battering former Estrada (16-3) over ten rounds to stop the former U.S. Olympian for the first time in his professional career. Even top rated contender Tomasz Adamek can’t say that.

Just this past May 27th, Lawrence battered Jason Gavern to solidify his status as the WBC Caribbean Heavyweight champion as he dropped Gavern twice en route to making Gavern quit on his stool after the seventh round.

‘I am ready for anyone, whether it’s for one of the steppingstone fights against a top ten guy or a championship fight, I am ready, I am the guy who will being the Heavyweight championship back to America “, said Lawrence

“The Heavyweight division needs someone who comes to fight and not only do I do that I will add an influx of personality”

“Franklin has shown that he is a force to be reckoned with in the Heavyweight division”, said Dave Escalet of Fisticuffs Promotions

“What contender’s have had those three consecutive wins? I think Franklin is ready for something big and with the roll that he is on, we believe that he has as much right to not only be ranked high by the organizations but he will beat any of those top contender and earn his shot at the Heavyweight championship”

NEWARK, NEW JERSEY (June 6, 2011)—Promoter Gabe LaConte is back.

The man who put on some of the most entertaining fights in the 1990’s in New Jersey is teaming up with The Gulfstream Group to present a big night of boxing on Wednesday June 22nd at the Robert Treat Hotel in Newark, New Jersey

In the main event, Ossie Duran of Accra, Ghana will take on Latif Mundy of Philadelphia in a ten round main event for the USBA Regional Middleweight title.

La Conte started promoting shows in the late 1980’s in Newark.

“Newark was a boxing town”, said La Conte

“I met all of the great champions and that inspired me to get into boxing”

LaConte started working as a trainer, manager and then a promoter.

“I did about ninety shows from West Orange, Atlantic City and Newark. Boxing was flourishing in that region. Marc Roberts had his Triple Threat Company and we put on some great shows”

When asked about this card, LaConte is not only very excited about the event but the future for the fighters on the card.

“First you have Duran and Mundy in what will be a great fight. Duran has a few losses on his mark but he can fight. I look at him as the modern day Cinderella Man” (referring to former Heavyweight champion Jim Braddock who also didn’t have the most amazing record before winning the title)

“He is fighting a tough guy in Mundy. Mundy is from Philadelphia and Philadelphia has the toughest fighters in the world so I expect this to be a great fight”

“The rest of the card is made up of the four and six rounders. These fights are the grass roots fights that help make the stars of tomorrow and I expect some of these guys to be fighting for world championships in the next few years.”

“Not only is the undercard thrilling, but we have three undefeated fighters on the show. These are great competitive fights which in my opinion are a television level card. What we are looking to do these shows and have the fans know that when these fighters are coming to fight at The Robert Treat that they are coming to win”

SOLDIERS NEED TO RETAKE GAT SURVEY. globalassessmenttool.net global assessment tool

States News Service April 18, 2011 WASHINGTON — The following information was released by the U.S. Army:

By J.D. Leipold Within the next couple of weeks, Soldiers will begin to see reminders that they must re-measure their resiliency and psychological health by taking the Global Assessment Tool survey again.

One reminder will be seen on the Army Knowledge Online portal. Splash screens will show an additional button under “my professional data” that will be glowing red if Soldiers have not taken the GAT a second time.

As the front-line tool for Comprehensive Soldier Fitness, the GAT allows Soldiers to assess their inner strengths in the emotional, social, spiritual and familial. After completing the 105-question online survey, those elements are quickly evaluated from scientifically validated scales and displayed in a graph of four bars showing weakest and strongest areas.

Soldiers can then immediately look through a variety of comprehensive resilience modules or CRMs and decide the areas they need to work on, and what skills they need to become more flexible in dealing with the challenges of daily life in and outside the Army.

“More so than anything else, the skills that can be learned from the modules can be applied in almost every aspect of your life, be it on deployment, in combat, back at the garrison, in your family life and civilian community,” said Capt. Paul B. Lester, a psychologist with CSF. “We’re not trying to teach what to think, but how to think and approach challenges, then how to negotiate those challenges.” The Army kicked off the GAT survey about 18 months ago, making it mandatory for all non-deployed Soldiers to complete on an annual basis. In February 2011, the number of Soldiers who had been assessed through the GAT reached 1 million.

Lester, who oversees CSF program evaluation, said his team is working through the many statistics involved in determining the successes of the GAT and the modules and much of what they’re seeing has indicated a wide distribution of resilience already.

“We’re not seeing a major difference in resilience between genders, so we know men and women are equally resilient,” he said. “We’re not seeing major differences between ranks, so there’s a wide dispersion of psychological resilience across the force, specifically along demographic lines.” Recently, the evaluation team received data from the 2nd Infantry Division in Korea on the results of their aggressive CSF training during in-processing. Lester said the division has trained 85 percent of their force in less than a year.

“We know, based on what they’re telling us, 78 percent of the suicidal gestures, ideations or attempts have come from the 15 percent of the Soldiers who for whatever reason were unable to go through the training during the initial in-processing,” he said. “Those statistics are fairly strong, but we’ll continue to analyze the data over time.” Initially the feedback given to Soldiers was just basic, but that has been evolved as the number of modules also increases every few months. About six months ago, the evaluation team talked with Soldiers from the bottom rung up to mid-level and strategic leaders who said they wanted help in making meaning of the scores. Feedback is now “light years ahead” of where it was a year ago, Lester noted. go to site global assessment tool

Instead of receiving just a general narrative and overview of the scores, Soldiers now taking the GAT will see a tailored narrative that tells them what areas they’re strong in, as well as weak in, and it will identify some potential areas where they could improve, Lester said.

Soldiers are also able to compare their scores to their peers based on age, military occupational skill, marital status, times deployed, rank and other criteria that give a better perspective of where they stand relative to others.

“For example, I get compared to thousands of other captains, and it shows me how well my scores are compared to everyone else who’s a captain, so it just helps you keep your scores in perspective,” Lester noted. “If you score pretty low on something, it doesn’t mean you’re failing, it just shows where you need to improve within your demographic lines.” The CSF folks realize psychological resilience isn’t a one-size-fits-all program, so they’re also working on tailoring the training specifically to the individual, he said, but that will take another year or two of development. In the next couple of years, he expects to see modules become more focused on specific issues, such as how to lose weight properly in order to make tape.

“We would really love for Soldiers to go through all our modules, but that’s really not the intent,” Lester said. “The intent is that over time the modules are tailored to a Soldier’s needs.”

Chavez wins first world title with majority decision over Zbik

Just like his soon to be Hall of Fame Father, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. won his first world championship in his forty-third bout as he scored a twelve round majority decision over Sebastian Zbik to wrestle the WBC Middleweight title at Staples Center Los Angeles.

Not much was known about Zbik other then he was a fundamentally sound technician and he proves that to be the case as he was an active fighter who had an accurate right hand. Chavez started his patented body shots. Alot of the rounds were similar with Chavez getting in his body and Zbik landing combinations. Chavez got through in round five as he wobbled Zbik with a solid overhand right.

The fight had action in every round as Chavez pulled slightly ahead due to his assault on the flanks of Zbik. As the rounds went on, those body shots began to dig deeper in Zbik and there was still some doubt as Zbik landed and threw more shots.

Chavez, 160 lbs of Culican, MX won by scores of 116-112; 115-113 and 114-114 to become a champion with a record of 43-0-1. Zbik, 158 3/4 lbs of Hamburg, Germany is now 30-1.

Miguel Angel “Mikey” Garcia scored a fourth round stoppage over late replacement Rafael Guzman in round four of a scheduled ten round Featherweight bout.

Guzman, who took the bout in just three days notice after Miguel Beltran Jr. had to bow out due to an injury, came out in round one and used his 5’10” height to his advantage. Garcia needed just that one round ti get into his rhythm as he landed some nice right hands that opened up a cut over the right eye of Guzman. Garcia upped the power on his punches in three which was a prelude to come in the next frame. In that fourth round, Garcia landed a perfect right that dropped Guzman to the canvas. He had trouble getting to his feet and the fight was waved off at 1:58 of round four.

Garcia, 127 lbs of Oxnard, CA is now 26-0 with twenty-two knockouts. Guzman, 126 3/4 lbs of Guadalajara, Mexico is now 28-3.

Santa Cruz stops Lopez in Five

Leo Santa Cruz scored a fifth round stoppage over grizzled veteran Jose Lopez in a scheduled eight round Bantamweight bout at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California.

Santa Cruz had a distinct size advantage and that was evident early as Santa Cruz pushed back Lopez at will in round’s one and four. Santa Cruz continued to batter Lopez all over the ring as he landed long right hands and body shots. The accumulation of punches had Lopez on his heels and even looking at the referee to end things. He didnt get that and proceeded to eat fifteen punches before the fight was stopped at 2:35 of round five.

Santa Cruz, 116 3/4 lbs of Rosemead, CA is now 16-0-1 with eight knockouts. Lopez, 117 1/2 lbs of Trujillo, PR is now 39-10-2.

Luis Ramos Jr. scored a hard fought unanimous decision over Francisco Lorenzo in an eight round Lightweight bout.

Ramos used his boxing skills to offset the rugged Lorenzo who provided a stiff test for Ramos Jr.

Ramos Jr., 135 1/2 lbs of Santa Ana, CA won by scores of 79-73; 77-75 and 77-75 to remain undefeated at 17-0. Lorenzo, 136 lbs of San Cristobol, DR is now 36-10

Juan Sandoval scored a second round stoppage over Rene Torres in a scheduled four round Jr. Lightweight bout.

Sandoval dropped Torres twice in the second frame and cut Torres from the punch that caused the first knockdown. The first knockdown came from multiple uppercuts and the final blows were rights to the head as Torres was off balance. The time of the stoppage was 2:20

Sandoval, 127 1/2 lbs of San Bernadino, CA is now 4-6-1. Torres, 129 1/2 lbs is now 0-5-1

Randy Caballero remained undefeated with a fourth round stoppage over Sergio Cristobal in a scheduled six round Jr. Featherweight bout.

Caballero dropped Cristobal in the first round from a little right hand as Cristobal tried to move forward. Caballero ended things in round four when he landed a double right that sent Cristobal to seat of his pants and the fight was stopped at 2:06 of round four.

Caballero, 120 lbs of Cochella, CA is now 11-0 with seven knockouts. Cristobal, 119 1/4 lbs of Chicago is 3-2

Froch takes majority decision over Johnson to retain crown and advance to Super Six final

ATLANTIC CITY– Carl Froch vaulted into the final of the Super Six world Super Middleweight tournament majority decision over Glen Johnson at the Adrian Phillips Ballroom inside of Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

Not only does Froch advance to face WBA King Andre Ward but he retained his WBC crown in the process.

After a non discript first round, Johnson started to up the pressure in round two as he came forward and landed a big over hand right. Froch had a good beginning of round three as he dipped in and out landing some swift combination’s. In the latter part of the round Johnson landed some nice right back that sent Froch back on his heels. Round four saw Froch box and move in a similar style to his wipe out points victory over Arthur Abraham where he seemed to have his timing down by landing solid combination’s while on the back pedal. Froch had a solid round six by continuing to land three punch combination’s that was sandwiched in between a big right hand that Johnson landed on the ropes.

Round seven was a terrific back and forth battle as Johnson book-ended the round with two big right hands but Froch got some of his own work done as they went back and forth on the ropes. Round eight was a crowd pleasing round to say the least as the two traded bombs to show off their granite chin’s. Johnson landed a couple of thuddding rights while Froch got through some solid lefts hooks. Froch upped his rate and timed Johnson throughout round nine by landing combination’s and in the process did-int give Johnson a great opportunity to get off. Round’s ten and eleven continued to feature great action as the round’s were difficult to score as Johnson would land the one big punch of the round wheras Froach would put together the consistent combination’s. The two traded combination’s down the stretch with Froch’s work rate being the difference

Froch of Nottingham, England is now 28-1. Johnson of Miami, FL is now 51-15-2

Edison Miranda was on his way to a comeback trail and faced off against Rayco Saunders in a light heavyweight catch-weight bout scheduled for eight rounds. Miranda, whose body looked relatively well for the higher weight. The bout started at a methodical pace. Miranda utilized a lot of movement, but was still able to maintain the aggressive nature that made him so popular. The third round changed things, as Miranda was able to land a hard right hand that staggered Saunders. Miranda followed up with multiple right hands that was able to make it through the guard of Saunders. After multiple right hands, Sunders was able to make it out of the round and regain his composure. The bout turned into a tactical affair for the rest of the fight. Miranda methodically worked his way to a 79-73, 79-73, and 80-73 scorecard giving him the unanimous decision victory.

Miranda’s record improves to 34-5 with 29 knockouts and Saunder’s record takes a hit at 28-13 with 8 knockouts.

Former light heavyweight title holder, Zsolt Erdei looked to improve his undefeated record against Byron Mitchell in a fight scheduled for ten rounds. Erdei had moved up to Cruiserweight from some time, but then realized that he had unfinished business in the division where he holds the lineal claim to the Light Heavyweight Championship of the world. This would be his second fight back, and Mitchell would serve as that stepping stone back to prominence.

The fight started extremely well for Erdei. He had no problem fighting tough against his larger opponent, as he had gotten used to being the smaller man in the ring during his cruiserweight days. Erdei landed multiple wide combinations to get around Mitchell’s high guard. As the fight progressed, Mitchell became more comfortable with his opponent and managed to throw some combinations in retaliation. Erdei then slowed the pace and instead of coming straight forward, he would simply side step and throw a straighter punch. This work very effectively for him. In the sixth round, a hard jab set up a powerful right hook that sent Mitchell down flat on his back. Mitchell beat the count, but was met from an absolute onslaught from Erdei. Finally, a right hand bomb sent Mitchell down, and the referee called a stop to the fight as he saw that Mitchell was completely out of it. The time of the stoppage was 1:58 of the sixth round.

Erdei’s record improves to 33-0 with 18 KO’s while Mitchell’s falls to 28-8-1 with 21 knockouts.

“The first fight, I was a little homesick,” said the Hungarian native, who spent most of his pro career fighting in Europe. “This time I had more preparation and more time to get used to being here. It showed in the ring.”

Looking ahead, Erdei, who held the WBO cruiserweight title from 2004-2009 before giving it up for a brief stint at cruiserweight, many possibilities in the talent-rich 175 lbs. division. A chance run-in just hour before his fight had his mind on one man in particular.

“I met Bernard Hopkins at the bakery in Caesars just before the fight,” said Erdei. “He was a real gentleman and we have a great mutual respect for each other. It would be an honor to fight him.”

In the third fight of the evening, rising prospect, J’Leon Love took on the very tough Lamar Harris in a middleweight bout scheduled for six rounds. e bout opened with Love landing combination after combination, staggering Harris on several occasions. As the fight progressed, Harris looked more confident, landing hard left hooks flush against Love’s face. Even still, Love did significant damage with his fast combinations. Towards the end of the fight, Love was in complete control and managed to land a powerful hook that sent Harris down, but not for the count. Harris was able to get his legs back under him, but it was too little too late. Love kept on the pressure and came away with scores of 40-35 from all three judges.

Love improves to 7-0 with 5 KO’s while Lamar Harris has his record pegged down to 6-8-3 with 4 KO’s.

Ivan Redkach scored a sixth round stoppage over Alberto Amaro in the final scheduled round of their Lightweight bout.

Redkach landed some hard combinations and was dominant. At the end of round five, Redkach landed a hard right hook that sent Amaro to the deck. Redkach landed three hard shots to end the round and referee Steve Smoger was close to ending it as the bell sounded. Smoger did call a halt to the action in the final round after Redkach continued his assault on Amaro at 1:46.

Redkach, 136 lbs of Los Angeles, CA is now 7-0 with six knockouts. Amaro, 134 1/2 lbs of Cantano, PR is now 6-6.

Swedish born Light Heavyweight Badou Jack scored a fifth round stoppage over Hajro Sujak in a bout scheduled for six rounds.

Jack landed some nice combination from the outset. he continued to batter the game Sujak throughout the contest. At times Sujak showed signs of life by landing some shots in between Jack rallies. In round four, Jack landed some thudding body punches that eventually came upstairs on Sujak. Sujak began to bleed badly from the mouth. In round five, Jack continued to beat up Sujak until Sujak’s corner threw in the towel that was recognized by referee Eddie Cotton at 1:30 of round five.

Jack, 174 1/2 lbs of Las Vegas via Sweden is now 6-0 with five knockouts. Sujak, 173 lbs of Brooklyn, NY is now 6-2.

Carl Froch, WBC Super Middleweight Champion/Super Six Finalist:

“Everyone is finally starting to acknowledge what I’ve done in successive fights.”

“I wasn’t 100% happy with my performance, because I’m the kind of guy who likes to unload my shots. I didn’t do that enough tonight, but I did enough to win.”

“Johnson is a big, strong light heavyweight and he can hang in with everyone. He is a proud, strong man. He was fading towards the end because I was hitting him.”

“It was a professional performance tonight, which I’m proud of. I did enough to win without taking too many risks.”

“I’m going to stay on the ball. I will have a little bit of a rest, and I’ll go back and see my baby boy Rocco. But, I will stay straight and stay fit.”

“You always learn in every fight. Tonight I solidified that I can box on my last foot and give Ward problems doing that.”

Eddie Hearn, Froch’s Promoter:

“Carl deserves the utmost respect from everyone in the world. He is a real fighter. We don’t have enough people like Carl Froch in boxing.”

“We’re going to build his fight with Andre Ward for what it is: a unification fight between the two best super middleweights in the world.”

“I don’t think there has been anyone who has fought, successively, so many top opponents. Carl is just a fighter.”

Glen Johnson:

“My team has done a wonderful job with my career every since I teamed up with them. We have come up on the short end of the stick sometimes, and they have never given up on me.”

“For me, I will just go home and put more effort into it and see what I can bring next time.”

“It was a close fight. There was a lot of give and take. He hit me with some solid, clean shots.”

“Carl can fight. He is tough. We look forward to seeing a great fight between the two men who have made it to the finals.”

Lou DiBella, Johnson’s Co-Promoter:

“If you don’t love Glen Johnson then you don’t love boxing. It is an honor and privilege to be his promoter and to be his friend. You never get less than 100% from Glen Johnson.”

“Everyone on this team respects the heck out of Carl Froch. If Andre Ward thinks he will have an easy night, he is very wrong.”

“It was a very close fight going into the seventh or eighth round. Glen tried to take him out with one punch and Carl adjusted.”

Leon Margules, Johnson’s Co-Promoter:

“People who came here tonight saw a spectacular fight between two great warriors and champions. Anyone who saw the fight and knows boxing can appreciate the kind of battle Glen and Carl had.”

“For a 42 year old athlete to fight twelve hard rounds like that is a spectacular feat.”

“I’m not disappointed in Glen’s performance; I’m only disappointed in the result.”

Jhonson takes decision from Torres in Tampa

Former Cuban amateur star Yudel Jhonson scored a ten round unanimous decision over Jose Miguel Torres in a Jr. Middleweight bout at the Al A Carte Pavillion in Tampa, Florida.

Jhonson boxed the whole fight as it looked like a glorified sparring session as he landed a handful of good left hands in every round. Torres at times tried to come forward but his offense was few and far between Torres was docked a point in round seven for a low blow. In the final round Jhonson was deducted a point for hitting behind the head. That was the only blemish in an otherwise solid performance for Jhonson.

Jhonson, 152 1/2 lbs of Santo Carlo, Cuba won by scores of.f 96-92; 96-92 and 97-91 to remain perfect at 11-0. Torres, 154 1/2, the brother of former WBO Jr, Welterweight champ Ricardo Torres is now 21-5.

Former world title challenger scored an eight round unanimous decision over Tyrese Hendrix in a Jr. Welterweight bout.

Estrada fought well early as he landed a series of body shots in round two. Hendrix took a couple of the middle rounds as he outworked Estrada. Estrada sealed the deal in the final round as he landed a couple of hard right hooks that landed flush.

Estrada, 139 lbs of Monteria, Colombia won by scores of 79-73; 78-74 and 77-75 to raise his record 39-14-1. Hendrix, 139 lbs of Gainesville, GA is now 20-3-1.

Tapia, who has been one of boxing’s most talked about fighters for the past twenty years (for a myriad reasons) is winding down and wants to thrill his hometown fans in New Mexico one more time before he calls it a day.

Tapia has an astonishing record of 58-5-2 with thirty knockouts and captured the WBO Super Flyweight title with an eleventh round knockout over Henry Martinez in 1994.

He defended that title ten times before adding the IBF Super Flyweight title when he took a twelve round unanimous decision over cross-town rival Danny Romero in one of the mist anticipated grudge matches of the 1990’s.

After two more defenses, he claimed the WBA Bantamweight title with twelve round majority decision over Nana Konadu.

Tapia then went on to win the WBO Bantamweight belt with a twelve round unanimous decision over Jorge Julio.

Tapia won his final belt by scoring a twelve round majority decision to win the IBF Featherweight title over Manuel Medina.

He has won his last three bouts which includes fourth round stoppage over Jorge Alonso this past September 24th

Pastrana has a record of 35-15-2 with twenty three big knockouts.

On January 18th, 1997, Pastrana won the IBF Light Flyweight title with a split decision over former U.S. Olympic star Michael Carbajal.

He defended that title before winning the WBA Interim Flyweight title with a unanimous decision over Jose Bonilla.

Pastrana has come up just a bit short in three more world title opportunities but he has capable of pulling off the big upset on Saturday.

There will be at least three more fights on the live broadcast.
