Headliner & Undefeated WBA Champ, Junior ‘The Young God’ Younan (21-0, 13KO), did not disappoint in his return to The Paramount Saturday night. Younan, from Brooklyn, NY, displayed the type of performance that puts him in contention for a top world ranking. Younan added another victory inside the distance as he stopped the durable Alexis Gaytan, with a flurry of devastating punches. The stoppage occured in the 5th round (2.37 minute mark). Younan solidifies his postion as a top contender with the win and positioned himself for a major fight.
UNDERCARD:
David Malul (1-0, 1KO), had the crowd mesmerized and on their feet the entire fight in a thrilling highly-anticipated Pro Debut. Malul (AKA King David) gave the rowdy Paramount crowd and his strong contingent of fans in attendance a real scare as he was knocked down hard twice in the first miniute of the first round. King David then energized the crowd with a knockdown of his own, dropping Lucien Hannah, the third knockdown in this thrilling first round. A dazed and shocked Hannah sprung up, locked eyes with King David, and both fighters went to war. King David defined what it means to overcome adversity. A brutal head shot sent Hannah into the ropes, flat on the canvas and out for the count. King David got the knockout victory and gave his happy fans the memory of a lifetime in his thrilling professional debut.
FDNY Fire Fighter, Lou Maietta, secured another win by Unanimous Decision (39-37, 39-37, 40-36), against a tough opponent in Beni Beguy. A winner now in his last two bouts, Maietta hopes to remain busy on Star Boxing shows. The bout saw both fighters hit the canvas in another exciting first round.
Joseph ‘ GI Joe’ Elzey (3-0, 1KO), a Bronxite & New York native, kept his perfect record intact, in our featured undefeated vs undefeated matchup. This bout was a hard-fought decision, against the standout Mexican prospect, Erick ‘El Canete’ Perez (2-1, 1KO). Elzey, winner by Unanimous Decision, secured the ‘W’ with the judge’s scorecards reading 39-37, 40-36, 39-37. Both fighters expressed the desire for a rematch on Star Boxing’s November 23rd card.
In what some might consider the ‘who can take the hardest shot of the night’, Yan Carlos Perez (3-0, 2KO), won by Unanimous Decision (59-55, 58-56, 60-55), against the gritty & durable Ronny Reyes. Both these fighters exchanged vicious shots throughout the entire six round bout.
Rodrigo “Lata” Marte’s first round (2:30) knockout of Ezequiel “El Preto” Flores (now 5-4, 3 KO’s) in round one of the opening fight set the tone for a thrilling evening at Rockin’ Fights 48. Marte (now 4-0, 3 KO’s) looked dominant, exciting Star Boxing’s Huntington crowd for the slate of exciting matches that electrified the sold out crowd.

I have always dreamed about becoming a world champion,” said Jangra. “All thanks to God that I am feeling so proud that I am representing my country India for world title. I want to be an inspiration for the next generation of Indian boxers. They can learn from my hard work and dedication. India is an upcoming powerhouse for professional boxing.”

Regarding having Jones as his trainer, “Roy is a great mentor. I am so blessed that he gave me chance to work with him. Learning from the champ is the best way to succeed. One of the best things I have learned from Roy is fishing in boxing ?, meaning how to make way for the counter punch, and I love that!”

Nilo Guerrero (9-0, 7 KOs), was born and raised in Managua, Nicaragua and now resides in Coachella, California. Nilo made his pro debut in 2021, fought his first six fights in Nicaragua and his last three in the USA.

“I’m happy to have this opportunity and I’m motivated for this fight,” Guerrero said. “It’s always been my dream to fight for a world title. My opponent is an excellent fighter and I know this will be a war. We are both fighting to stay undefeated. but I will do my job and get that victory no matter what. I know it will be the best fight of the night. In my mind, the objective is to come out on top, either by decision, TKO or KO.”

ROY JONES JR. was world champion at middleweight, super middleweight, light heavyweight (undisputed) and in 2003 became the first former middleweight world champion to become world heavyweight champion in over 106 years when he beat John Ruiz to win the title. Throughout that stretch he was recognized as the No. 1 pound-for-pound boxer in the world. He now trains over a dozen boxers.

Undefeated Nicaraguan super featherweight prospect Nilo Guerrero, Jr. to take on 10-0 Mandeep Jangra

LOS ANGELES (September 16, 2024) — Nicaraguan super featherweight prospect Nilo Guerrero, Jr. (9-0, 7 KOs) is a throwback fighter willing to risk his perfect pro boxing record against fellow undefeated fighter Madeep “MJ” Jangra (10-0, 7 KOs) this Thursday night (Sept. 19) at Yakima Legends Casino in Toppenish, Washington.

Jangra vs. Guerrero will headline a card in the 10-round main event of a show promoted by Hall of Famer Roy Jones, Jr. (RJJ Boxing), who also trains India-native Jangra, and their fight is for the vacant National Boxing Association (NBA) Super Featherweight Championship. All the action will be streamed live at www.globalsportsstreaming.com.

“We have great faith that Nilo will go up there and handle business to show that he is going to be a force,” Guerrero’s promoter (Toro Promotions) Azat Torosyan commented. “We are very high on him.”

The 24-year-old Guerrero has never fought in more than a six-round bout, but he’s genuinely excited to challenge Jangra.

“I’m motivated for this fight,” the NBA #1-contender Guerrero said. “I’m happy to have this opportunity. It’s a great test and can open future doors towards my dream of winning a world title. My opponent is an excellent fighter, but I will do my job and get that victory no matter what. I know this will be a war. We are both fighting to stay undefeated. I know it will be the best fight of the night. In my mind, the objective is to come out on top, either by decision, TKO or KO.”

Guerrero is a physical freak; he stands 6’ 1”, five inches taller than Jangra, with an exceptionally long reach for a super featherweight.

More importantly, though, Guerrero is a proud Nicaraguan who is the latest boxer from his boxing rich country, which has produced 17 world champions including Hall of Famer Alexis Arguello and future Hall of Famer Roman “Chocolito” Gonzalez, as well as Ricardo Mayorga and Rosendo Alvarez.

“I am happy and motivated to be a member of this generation of boxers to represent my country,” Guerrero added. “I’m working on my own and I know all the world I’m doing will result in my hands being raised in victory, God willing.”

Both Guerrero and Jangra were standout amateurs in their home countries. Guerrero was the Nicaraguan Youth National Champion, while Jangra was the 2016 South Asian gold medalist, in addition to receiving the second highest sports honor in India, the Arjuna Award in 2015.

Jangra moved to Florida to train at Jones’ gym in Pensacola, Guerrero now lives in Coachella, California.

“I’ve adapted to living here,” Guerrero noted. “I work hard every day to continue learning. I have different styles because each fight is different. Each fighter is different, so I look for other fighting styles and know how to develop them at the time of each fight and do the right job.”

It doesn’t matter to Guerrero that he’s headlining for the first time in the United States against the promoter’s fighter. “El Mayor” is a fighter’s fighter. Just tell him when and where the fight is, and he’ll bring his best into the ring.

“I’m not concerned with that (fighting the show promoter’s fighter),” Guerrero concluded. “I just don’t see it that way. I do know that I have a point against me and that’s why I’m working so hard. I’m sure it’ll be a fair fight, and it’ll end in my clear favor.

“I’m happy because I’m representing my country and family. “They are the greatest motivation for me to move forward and achieve my goals. I know that a victory will mean more doors will be open for me and more people will know my name. I will be ready for any challenge that approaches in the future. The goal is always the same: to be the undisputed world champion.”

DAN AZEEZ FACES LEWIS EDMONDSON IN CRUNCH LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT CLASH ON OCTOBER 19TH AT THE COPPER BOX ARENA IN LONDON

LONDON, UK (September 16, 2024) – Dan Azeez will face undefeated rival Lewis Edmondson in a crunch light heavyweight clash on Saturday, October 19th at the Copper Box Arena in London, presented by BOXXER, live on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland and on Peacock in the USA.

TICKETS ON SALE NOW

Azeez and Edmondson meet as part of an action-packed night of boxing at the Copper Box Arena topped by the explosive super lightweight contest between fast-rising star Adam Azim and Ohara Davies.

It is a must win fight for fan-favourite Azeez (20-1-1, 13 KOs) who will be looking to move back into major title contention. The former British, Commonwealth and European Champion lost a world title eliminator to Joshua Buatsi in a ‘Fight Of The Year’ contender in February. Azeez then drew with Hrvoje Sep in a comeback fight at Selhurst Park in June.

Unbeaten Edmondson (9-0, 3 KOs), a gifted amateur who was part of the Team GB set up, narrowly missing out on a place at the Rio 2016 Olympics, before turning over with a record of 52 wins from 60 bouts, has done everything asked of him so far in the professional ranks.

The Southampton man claimed a points win over Joel McIntyre last time out at the Cardiff International Arena in May and now has the chance to claim a high-profile victory against a big name opponent in Azeez.

A shared history between the fighters adds further intrigue to their upcoming contest. The pair met as amateurs with Edmondson coming out on top. Azeez is now eager to settle the score as pros.

Dan Azeez said: “Lewie is a good, skillful, young fighter. He whooped me as an amateur and now it’s time to return the favour!”

Lewis Edmondson said: “I respect Dan as a fighter. He’s very experienced. He’s been there numerous times. We know each other well. We fought as amateurs and sparred in the early days of my pro career. I’m expecting a tough and rough fight. What you see is what you get with Dan. I respect him as a person but it’s the fight game and it’s time to announce myself on the big stage. He’s had his time and it’s mine now.”

BOXXER Founder and CEO Ben Shalom said: “This card keeps getting bigger and bigger. Dan Azeez vs Lewie Edmondson is another brilliant all-British battle that is going to light up the Copper Box Arena on October 19th. It’s a must win fight for both men, who are at different stages of their careers. Make sure you get your ticket or tune in on Sky Sports as this is an event you don’t want to miss!”

Fights fans can expect an electric atmosphere in East London when British super lightweight rivals Adam Azim and Ohara Davies go toe-to-toe in a highly charged contest on Saturday, October 19th at the Copper Box Arena.

Michael McKinson takes on South Africa’s Tulani Mbenge for the vacant IBO World Welterweight Title, Jeamie TKV and Franklin Ignatius reignite their amateur rivalry in a hotly anticipated heavyweight clash, and rising bantamweight star Francesca Hennessy returns to action.

Tickets, starting from £35, are on sale now via BOXXER.com

This event is presented in association with official partners HELL Energy, Car Finance 247 and That Prize Guy.

No Knockout: Canelo goes the distance, scores decision over Berlanga

By Norm Frauenheim (Ringside)

LAS VEGAS –On the scorecards, there was no upset.

But in the court of public opinion, there was a big one.

From pillar to post — sports book to social media, Edgar Berlanga had been mocked, dismissed and damned. The consensus was that Berlanga had no chance against Canelo Alvarez.

But Berlanga was there in the twelfth and final round, trading punches and more than a few words in a pay-per-view fight Saturday night in front of an announced crowd of 20,312 at T-Mobile Arena. Berlanga went the distance. Before opening bell, his chances at that were about as good as the Chicago White Sox winning the World Series.

At 27, Berlanga (22-1, 17 KOs) managed to surprise Canelo (62-2-2, 39 KOs), who promised a knockout before the eighth round. Early on, however, Berlanga displayed something Canelo didn’t expect. The younger man was– is –durable. Above all, he can take a punch.

In the third round, Canelo landed his best, a counter left that has stopped so many other Canelo challengers. It dropped Berlanga, flat on his rear end. But Berlanga did what so many have failed to do. He got up.

Canelo attacked, almost in a desperate pursuit to end it, then and there. But Berlanga had the presence of mind to elude those assaults and then to attack in his own right.

In the end, Canelo, still the unified super-middleweight champion, walked away with a solid decision, 118-109 on two cards and 117-110 on the third. But he didn’t fulfill his promised knockout, which means he didn’t dispel questions about how he’d do against David Benavidez or Terence Crawford. More on them later.

“No, I did good,” he said to a roaring crowd of Mexican partisans.. “Now, what are they going to say.”

There will be doubts. That’s a safe bet. He hasn’t scored a knockout in almost three years. Canelo has his critics and they will be out in force after going the distance against the underrated Puerto Rican. Canelo seemed to know that. Still, his confidence remains unshaken.

“I’m the best fighter in the world,” he said.

Dispute that claim, and many will.  But his dominance at the box office remains unchallenged. He jammed T-Mobile with a crowd that was called a sellout. This side of Japan’s Naoya Inoue, what other boxer in the world can do that these days? Dumb question.

Boxing has its own way of saying: Follow The Money. Follow Canelo. That won’t change, tomorrow or until he retires, perhaps when the 34-year-old fighter turns 37..

But his challengers are younger and only getting better. Berlanga was evidence of that.

“I’m upset because at the end of the day I’m a winner,” Berlanga said.

He was Saturday and he will be again.

Meanwhile, questions about Canelo’s future remain unanswered Crawford at a 168 pounds? Benavidez?

“I”m going to rest and then I’m going to decide what’s next,” he said.

Garcia takes knee, Lara retains title

Danny Garcia apologized.

But an angry crowd booed.

Forget apologies, a near capacity crowd at T-Mobile Arena wanted a fight and it didn’t get one in an advertised middleweight title fight between Garcia and a defending belt-holder, 41-year-old Erislandy Lara Saturday night in the final bout before the Canelo Alvarez-Edgar Berlanga main event.

Garcia, a former junior-welterweight and welterweight champion fighting at 160 pounds for the first time, took a knee in the final second of the ninth round and then surrendered on his stool seconds before the 10th.

“I’m sorry,” Garcia (37-4, 21 KOs) said. “I tried. You can’t succeed if you don’t try.”

Garcia wasn’t able to do much of anything against the middle-aged Lara (31-3-3, 18 KOs), who claims to be the oldest champion in Cuban history.

Presumably, Lara will schedule a few more title defenses. He’ll be 42 in April. It wasn’t clear what Garcia or his volatile father trainer Angel will do next. But the boos included an unmistakable message:

Retire.

Caleb Plant stops McCumby for TKO win

Caleb Plant and Trevor McCumby exchanged insults. They mocked each other in word and gesture. But this was no clown show.

Not in the end.

Plant and McCumby settled their difference along the ropes, boxing’s trenches where blood and bruises are more decisive than words can ever be.. That’s where Plant was at his brutal best. That’s also where he won, pounding McCumby with an avalanche of punches that rained off him from round to round.

At 2:59 of the ninth round of the  contentious super-middleweight fight on the Canelo Alvarez-Edgar Berlanga card at Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena, it was over. That’s when the referee stepped in and halted the brawl.

Plant (23-2, 14 KOs) was the TKO winner, leaving McCumby, a former prospect, to ponder what he’ll do next after his first loss, yet only his fourth fight since 2018 .

McCumby (28-1, 21 KOs), a Chicago native now living in Glendale AZ, scored a knockdown in the fourth, although it looked as if a push instead of a punch sent Plant backpedaling into the ropes onto the canvas. McCumby danced after that one. He shook his hips at Plant.

As it turned out, however, Plant was just warming up. He began to pin McCumby on the ropes, punishing him with successive blows from the fifth until the inevitable end.

“It was a pretty tough fight,” Plant, a former super middleweight champion, said.  “I was just easing in. I proved that I can fight on the inside tonight and I did what I had to do.

“He caught me pulling out and hit me in the shoulder, but that’s part of the game. He came in with wild punches and I just had to stay focused. That’s what champions do..”

Romero wins one-sided decision, hopes for title shot

Rollie Romero wanted a steppingstone.

He got one, scoring a unanimous decision over Manuel Jaimes in junior-welterweight bout Saturday on the Canelo-Bernlanga card at Mobile Arena Saturday night.

“I needed a tough 10-round fight against someone hungry and that’s what I got tonight,” Romero (16-3, 13 KOs), a Las Vegas fighter said. “I was doing a lot of stuff tonight that I should have done in my earlier fights.

“Jaimes was coming forward a lot, but I was controlling the pace. The fight was going how I wanted it to. In the later rounds I started coming forward more and landing more body shots.

“Hopefully I’m fighting for a title next.

“I have my eye on any of the champions.”

Jaimes (16-2-1, 11 KOs), of Stockton CA, simply couldn’t keep up with Romero, who simply outworked him.

“The judges saw what they saw”  he said.  “I’d have to watch the tape to be able to score it myself. I could have been more active, that would have helped me land more.”

Fulton scores controversial decision over Carlos Castro

Carlos Castro got the knockdown.

Got the loss, too.

For Stephen Fulton, there were boos.

“A shout out to the boos,” Fulton said.

Fulton accepted the booing, because he got the win too, a controversial split decision Saturday over Castro, a resilient Phoenix featherweight whose bid for a significant upset was denied by some debatable scoring.

Lisa Giampa had it 95-94, for Castro. On David Sutherland’s card, it was 96-93 for Fulton. On Don Trella’s card, it 95-94, also for Fulton

Castro (30-3, 14 KOs), a skilled boxer, pursued Flulton early and often with a slick mix of head shots and body punches. The early attack seemed to surprise Fulton (22-1, 8 KOs), who hadn’t fought since getting knocked out by pound-for-pound front-runner Naoya Inoue in Tokyo in July 2023.

There were moments when it looked as if Fulton underestimated Castro, especially his power. In the fifth, however, Castro delivered an overhand right that stunned Fulton. It also might have awakened Fulton to a threat he might not have foreseen in his first fight in more than a year.

It knocked him down.

For the next couple of rounds, Fulton was cautious. And Castro was aggressive. moving forward with quick hands to the body and head. In the seventh and eighth, a still-arriving crowd for the Canelo Alvarez-Edgar Berlanga main event began to chant:

“Castro, Castro.”

By then, Fulton had begun to rally. landing repeated head shots, all powered by the realization that the fight was up for grabs.

Again in the ninth and the 10th, it looked as if Castro had begun to tire. Yet, he answered Fulton’s punches with some of his own, especially in the fight’s final, furious seconds.

“Castro, Castro,” the crowd chanted.

Apparently, Sutherland and Trella didn’t hear them

Boom, one big counter from Ricardo Salas scores a stoppage

One counter was enough.

Ricardo Salas, a Mexico City welterweight, threw it.

It floored Venezuelan Roiman Villa, draining him of any motivation to continue. He stayed down, wiping blood away from a wound beneath one eye and waving one hand in apparent surrender midway through the third round.

Salas (20-2-2, 15 KOs) threw it – a straight right hand, — just as Villa (26-3, 24 KOs) missed wildly with a lunging punch. Sala followed with a glancing left. But the counter did the job, finishing Villa at 2:06 of the third.

Eddy Reynoso-trained Goe Lopez wins decision

Geo Lopez had power, hand speed and quick feet.

Only a stoppage was missing.

It eluded Lopez (17-0, 12 KOs), a junior lightweight from Orlando,  in the eighth and furious final round Saturday. A powerful left hand sent Ricky Mediana down and tumbling onto the canvas.

Somehow, however, Medina (15-3, 8 KOs) scrambled to his feet. He survived. But Lopez , who had Canelo trainer Eddy Reynoso in his corner, won, scoring a one-sided decision Saturday on the Canelo Alvarez-Edgar Berlanga card at T-Mobile Arena

Canelo-Berlanga Undercard: Middleweight suffers scary KO

Three fights, three second-round stoppages.

But this one was devastating, momentarily scary.

Cuban middleweight Yoenli Feliciano Hernandez‘ perfect record (5-0, 5 KOs) suggests world-class power. It was more than just a suggestion Saturday in the third fight on a card featuring Canelo Alvarez-versus-Edgar Berlanga Saturday at Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena.

Hernandez’ power put Jose Sanchez Charles down, flat on his face midway at 1:47 of the second. Charles (21-6-1, 12 KOs), of Mexico, stayed on he canvas,  motionless and face down, for several long moments before he was able to climb to his feet and onto a nearby stool.

Eventually, he stood up and seemed to say he was OK to medical personnel who had rushed to his side. Then, he waved at a sparse crowd of fans. They applauded, relieved to see the fighter walk out of the ring under his own power.

Canelo-Berlanga Card: Second fight delivers another second round stoppage

Two fights, two stoppages, both in the second round.

Lawrence King (17-1, 14 KOs) delivered an encore of the Canelo-Berlanga  card’s opening salvo, scoring a second-round stoppage of Vaughn Williams Saturday at Vegas’ T- Mobile Arena.

King, a light-heavyweight from San Bernardino CA., dropped Williams (12-2, 8 KOs), of South Carolina, twice in the second. It was over at 2:15 of the round.

First Bell: Canelo-Berlanga show opens with quick KO

The doors opened, the first bell sounded and Bek Nurmaganbet took care of business before anybody among a handful of early arrivals could get to their seats.

That’s how fast the Canelo Alvarez-Edgar Berlanga card  got underway Saturday at T-Mobile Arena.

Nearly eight hours before the main event and about an hour after high noon, Nurmaganbet ((12-0, 10 KOs) a super-middleweight from Kazakhstan, wasted little time and not much energy, overwhelming Joshua Conley (17-7-1, 11 KOs) within two rounds.  Conley, of San Bernardino CA, never had a chance. Nurmaganbet stopped him in the closing seconds of the second.

“Showtime” Shea Willcox Dazzling in pro debut

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (September 14, 2024) – Everett (MA) junior welterweight “Showtime” Shea Willcox had a dazzling pro debut in last night’s “Fight Night at the Vets Club 2” card, presented by Granite Chin Promotions (GCP), at the Bridgewater Veterans Club in Bridgewater, Massachusetts.

Fighting in front of a packed venue, in which the large majority of attendees were there supporting him, the 22-year-old Willcox did not disappoint as he floored Travis Crain three times, the last leading referee Jack Morrell to wave off the fight at the 43-second mark of the opening round.

Willcox, who was this year’s New England Golden Gloves Champion, as well as the Most Outstanding Boxer of the championship final, displayed poise beyond his age would indicate, calming setting up his vaunted left hook. Willcox used his left hook for the first two knockdowns, a minute into the fight and again 30-seconds later, and he closed the show with a crisp right cross for the technical knockout.

“I had a lot of fans at the New England Golden Gloves, and they really turned out for my pro debut,” Shea said after the fight. They’re always there for me and I’m grateful for their support. I love it!

“We had a game plan, and I knew what to do. I figured that he’s a southpaw and he’d be right there for my left hook. We trained nine weeks for it. My left hook, whether to the head or body, is my best punch. I saw him back up when I hit him early and knew that I had him. I’ll go right back into the gym to work on being a little more relaxed and balanced.”

Friday the 13th certainly wasn’t unlucky for the popular Willcox.

Shea Willcox had his arm raised in victory by referee Jack Morrell

“I knew Shea had a big fanbase, but WOW, what a turnout,” GCP promoter Chris Traietti commented. “It was a great night of local boxing. Shea certainly didn’t disappoint with an impressive first-round stoppage. He was poised and really handled the moment well. The supporting bouts were also incredible. We had two draws and a razor-thin opening bout that ended in a unanimous decision. Nobody left the Vets Club disappointed and that is always the goal, to give the fans their money’s worth. Thank you to everyone that came out, our sponsors, the Granite Chin Staff, and most importantly…the fighters for making this night our best show at the Vets Club to date!”

The other three bouts on the card were all action-packed, entertaining and competitive. Two ended in draws.

Rhode Island middleweight Alfred “Keenan” Raymond (2-10-3, 0 KOs) and Daniel “The Hudson Valley Kid” Sostre (13-26-2 (5 KOs) fought to an entertaining four-round draw that could have been fought in the proverbial phone booth. Keenan won all four rounds on one of the judges’ scorecards, while Sostre took two of three and one from one of the other judges, and 36-36 on the third for a draw. Sostre nearly snapped his 17-fight losing streak.

DOMESTIC RIVALS EDWARDS AND YAFAI SET FOR FLYWEIGHT THRILLER IN BIRMINGHAM ON NOVEMBER 30

Former IBF World Champion Sunny Edwards and Tokyo 2020 Olympic Gold Medallist Galal Yafai will collide in a Flyweight thriller at BP Pulse LIVE in Birmingham on Saturday November 30, shown live worldwide on DAZN

The British rivals have been on a collision course since former Team GB star Yafai joined the professional ranks in February 2022 after fulfilling his lifelong dream of becoming Olympic Champion by outpointing the Philippines’ Carlo Paalam to secure gold in Japan.

Edwards (21-1, 4 KOs) produced a sublime display to inflict a first defeat on Moruti Mthalane in 13 years and become IBF Flyweight World Champion behind closed doors at London’s York Hall back in May 2021.

The gifted 28-year-old, who holds a win over Yafai in the amateurs, went on to make four successful defences of his World Title before suffering the first loss of his career in a blockbuster unification clash with Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez at the Desert Diamond Arena in Arizona last December.

‘Showtime’ returned to winning ways against Adrian Curiel on the undercard of Estrada vs. Rodriguez last time out in June and returns to fight in the UK for the first time since June 2023 aiming to close out the year in style in what promises to be a British blockbuster.

Birmingham’s Yafai (7-0, 5 KOs) picked up the WBC International Flyweight crown on his professional debut at The O2 in London before making defences at the world-famous Madison Square Garden In New York, the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi and The O2 once more in April 2023.

The 31-year-old demolished Tommy Frank inside two minutes to preserve his unbeaten record in front of his hometown fans at the Utilita Arena Birmingham in August 2023 before closing out the year with a points win over Rocco Santomauro in Arizona.

His last win came against Agustin Gauto at Fontainebleau Las Vegas earlier this year in April and now Yafai will run out at the Canon Medical Centre in Sheffield on September 28 before he steps up against the vastly more experienced Edwards for the biggest test of his pro career to date.

“This fight has always been inevitable,” said Edwards. “Our last names hold weight in British boxing and around the world – and it’s really time to put to bed the Edwards-Yafai Saga.

“Being overlooked for the Olympic Games because of family relationships and city ties – lit a fire all those years back. I beat Galal and was shelved in the same year back in 2015 and now this is my chance to show Britain who the real golden boy is.”

“I’m happy that the fight has been made,” said Yafai. “This is going to be a massive fight for British boxing. I need to win a World Title, and this is a fight that will put me on the cusp of fighting for one when I win in my hometown on November 30.”

“This is a huge fight for British boxing,” said Matchroom Sport Chairman Eddie Hearn. “I’m delighted to get this one over the line as it’s the right fight for both men. In my opinion these are the best two Flyweights in the world, and they will clash for a shot at the World Title in front of a huge crowd in Birmingham. Former IBF World Champion Edwards will feel he’s the favourite heading into this one as he looks to recapture gold at 112 pounds. Olympic gold medal hero Yafai hasn’t put a foot wrong so far in the pro ranks, this is a massive step up for him but one that he will be confident of overcoming. It has all the makings of a brilliant fight, and I cannot wait for the BP Pulse LIVE in Birmingham to be bouncing on November 30. Standby for announcements on a bumper undercard and we put on an unmissable night of action exclusively live worldwide on DAZN.”

“We love this fight,” said Alfie Sharman, VP DAZN. “I have always been a massive fan of Sunny, a guy who talks the talk and walks the walk in and out of the ring. Galal is a phenomenal talent who in his short pro career so far has probably not faced a fighter as good as Sunny. It will be fireworks. Live and exclusive only on DAZN.”

An announcement on ticket details will be made in due course.

HARLEM EUBANK RETURNS ON OCTOBER 25, LIVE AND FREE ON CHANNEL 5

Harlem Eubank will return to the ring on Friday, October 25, live and free-to-air on Channel 5.

One of the biggest names in British boxing, the unbeaten Eubank meets former French welterweight champion Nurali Erdogan next month.

Eubank, who delivered a stunning career-best performance in Brighton last year in front of a TV audience of two million, is ready to make up for lost time ahead of big nights in his hometown early next year.

The 30-year-old signed a new multi-fight deal with Wasserman Boxing, last week, and follows that up by confirming the 20th bout of his unblemished career.

Also, on the Wasserman Boxing event in Bolton, which is delivered in association with Ladbrokes and Infinitum, will be sensational British prospect Dan Toward, rising super lightweight star Khaleel Majid and heavyweight hope Matty Harris.

The exciting Niall Brown is also on the card, along with Codie SmithBen Marksby, local hero Alex Murphy and Sophie Alisch.

But it will be the returning Eubank, out of the ring since November, who headlines on Channel 5 with the welterweight puncher looking to become the first man to stop Erdogan.

Harlem Eubank said: “Hot on the heels of my new deal with Wasserman Boxing, I am thrilled to be able to confirm my return to the ring.

“I cannot wait to get my career moving again and October 25 represents the start of the biggest chapter in my boxing story and the beginning of my journey at welterweight.

“I will have been out of the ring for almost year, so I plan on issuing a timely reminder as to what I am all about, live to the nation on Channel 5.”

Kalle Sauerland, Global Head of Boxing at Wasserman, said: “Harlem Eubank gets back to business on October 25, live and free on Channel 5.

“Harlem is one of the biggest names in British boxing and his return to the ring has been long overdue.

“We’re thrilled he signed a new deal with Wasserman Boxing and delighted to deliver him a fight date straight away.

“Harlem drew a huge TV audience for his last fight on Channel 5 and UK fight fans are sure to tune-in again for his long-awaited return.

“Expect a performance that sends a warning shot to the welterweight division.”

Alex Apati, from Ladbrokes, said: “British boxing has been eagerly anticipating Harlem’s return to the ring and he’ll no doubt be heading to Bolton with a point to prove.

“We’d expect plenty of punters to get behind the Brit in what looks set to be another fantastic night with Wasserman Boxing.”

Brick City Fight Night Series Announces Main Event – Newark Native Michael “Slick” Anderson faces off against Daniel “El Gallo” Gonzalez

NEWARK, N.J. — A high stakes welterweight showdown will headline the next installment of Brick City Fight Night Series on Saturday, October 12as local favorite Michael “Slick” Anderson faces Daniel “El Gallo” Gonzalez of Queens, N.Y. in a ten round bout.

Brick City Fight Night Series will be presented by Rising Star Promotions and Prudential Center, with twelve bouts scheduled, from the flyweight division up to the heavyweights. Tickets, priced at $306, $231, $121, and $60, are on sale now and can be purchased at www.prucenter.com or www.Ticketmaster.com.

Anderson (24-3-1, 18 knockouts) is riding a seven fight win streak, including six straight knockouts, underscoring the Newark native’s punching power and exciting style. Anderson was last in the ring in December, knocking out Eudy Bernardo in five rounds at Prudential Center.

“People will always doubt you but they have to remember that your opponent still has to get punched in the face,” said Anderson.

Gonzalez (21-4-1, 7 KOs) of the Woodhaven section of Queens will be the most experienced opponent that Anderson has faced in his 18-year career, having previously went the ten round distance with former WBO junior welterweight titleholder Chris Algieri in a close but losing decision.

In the co-featured bout, two bantamweights will fight for the opportunity to become a top contender in the 118-pound division.

“This fight is a great opportunity to test my skills. I am fighting a tough guy but I know I can beat anyone because my will and grit is unmatched. My resume and my experience with top tier opposition will be the difference when he faces my caliber of fighter. I’m too strong and I am ready for war. I know I will leave with the big win on October 12,” said Gonzalez, who is promoted by Star Boxing.

“This is a true crossroads fight between two veterans in the game. Despite Mike Anderson age, he’s never been at the level that Danny González has fighting on ESPN and DAZN, but when the lights come on, we’ll see him  show up,” said Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna, President of Rising Star Promotions and WBA Middleweight Gold World Champion. “I commend the both of them for taking the challenge at this stage of their careers.”

“This should be an exciting fight and a fan-friendly night at a terrific venue. Danny Gonzalez has always shown the heart of a lion and has given us so many memorable fights. We look forward to another tenacious performance by Danny against Michael Anderson in a true crossroads fight for these two worthy veterans,” said Joe DeGuardia, President of Star Boxing.

In the co-featured bout, hometown favorite Emmanuel “Salserito” Rodriguez (15-2, 8 KOs) of Newark, N.J. will face Brooklyn’s Khalid Twaiti (13-0, 5 KOs) in a ten round bout, with the USBA Regional and WBA Fedalatin titles up for grabs.

New Jersey bragging rights will be at stake as unbeaten prospects Gabriel Gerena and “Dangerous” Danny Gonzalez meet in a six round junior welterweight bout. Gerena (6-0, 5 KOs) of Piscataway, N.J. is riding a three fight knockout streak, while Gonzalez (3-0, 3 KOs) of Iselin, N.J. has knocked out all of his opponents to date, including a third round stoppage of Zachary Davis last Saturday in Carteret.

Both fighters are former amateur champions, with Gonzalez winning the 2023 N.J. Golden Gloves title at 147 pounds, and Gerena representing the state at the 2021 National Golden Gloves tournament.

The rest of the card will feature other top talent from the New Jersey and New York areas, including Anthony Johns (8-1, 6 KOs) of Newark in an eight round flyweight bout, Albanian heavyweight Kristian Prenga (15-1, 15 KOs) of Edgewater, N.J., Terell Bostic (12-2, 2 KOs) of Wyandanch, N.Y. facing Michael Lee (10-3, 7 KOs) of Jersey City in an eight round bout, plus Paul Bamba (16-3, 15 KOs) of New York City, Ghandi Romain (4-1, 4 KOs) of Irvington, N.J., Kahshad Elliot (2-0, 2 KOs) of Plainfield, N.J., Jean Pierre Valencia (1-0, 1 KO) of Irvington, N.J., Keith Colon (1-0, 1 KO) of Newark and Justin Palmieri (2-0, 1 KO) of Maple Shade, N.J. in separate bouts.

Two New Jersey heavyweights will make their professional debuts against one another as Erasmo Rosado Jr. of Paterson faces Woodbury’s Douglas Walsh.

BACK TO BRUM FOR DAVIES V MASOUD

THE EAGERLY AWAITED super bantamweight showdown between Liam Davies and Shabaz Masoud, with the IBO world championship at stake, will now occur at the BP Pulse Arena (Formerly Resorts World Arena) in Birmingham on Saturday, November 2.

The fight was initially scheduled in July before illness ruled out the champion. Challenger, the undefeated Masoud (13-0, 4 KOs) did see action on the night and subsequently clashed with his rival afterwards as the pair set the scene for a classic confrontation.

Davies (16-0, 8) was last out in Birmingham when he seized his IBO title with a blistering second-round stoppage of Erik Robles Ayala. During his remarkable rise in the sport, Davies has previously become British, European, WBC International, and WBO International champion.

The Undercard and ticket information will be released shortly.

“This is a fight we have been waiting for, and I reckon it will be worth the wait,” said promoter Frank Warren on the Davies-Masoud headliner. “Liam and Shabaz will deliver a top-quality fight, and the rivalry and bad feelings between the pair are simmering. I don’t think they are on each other’s Christmas card list.

Our bumper Birmingham shows have all delivered so far, and I expect more of the same and a huge crowd on November 2.”

GILLEY V GREENE HEADLINES YORK HALL ON OCTOBER 18

NEW FRANK WARREN signing Sam Gilley will make his Queensberry debut on Friday October 18 at York Hall where he will defend his Commonwealth championship and fight for the vacant British super welterweight title against Louis Greene.

DOWNLOAD FIGHT POSTERS HERE

It will be a rematch of an original thrilling encounter of the fan-friendly favourites, with Gilley (17-1, 8 KOs) prevailing via a unanimous decision in October of last year. Greene (17-4, 11) has since scored a spectacular 1st round stoppage over the previously unbeaten Jack McGann over in Riyadh, which secured his mandated status for this fight.

Also on the card in a fourth eight rounder will be precocious super featherweight talent Royston Barney-Smith (11-0, 5), who in his last fight became WBO Youth champion with a decision victory over Brian Barajas.

The vacant Southern Area heavyweight title will be on the line in Bethnal Green when the unbeaten Courtney Bennett (5-0, 2) goes up against the experienced campaigner Nick Webb (17-3, 13) over 10 rounds.

Another new Frank Warren recruit, US star super middleweight Abel Gonzalez (7-0, 5), will introduce himself in London over eight rounds, with unbeaten Featherweight Umar Khan (10-0,1) also fighting over eight, along with the Norfolk Nightmare, top cruiserweight prospect Tommy Fletcher (8-0, 6) and Liverpool super welterweight Jack McGann (10-1-1, 7) will be in action over six.

“This is another cracking little card,” said promoter Frank Warren. “It features a potential fight of the year for the British and Commonwealth titles between our new man Sam Gilley and Louis Greene. Anyone who knows their boxing will be aware of what sort of fight we are in for with this one. I am very much looking forward to getting Sam going and victory will open a lot of doors for him.

“We also get to welcome Abel Gonzalez to the Queensberry fold and I believe we are in for an exciting ride with him, plus we have a big domestic heavyweight showdown that the fans will definitely enjoy.

“In Royston Barney-Smith and Tommy Fletcher we have two of the most accomplished prospects in the country taking a next step, while I am also looking forward to witnessing the progress of Umar Khan and the debut of Elliott Elmasi.”

Toro’s Heavyweight Showdown Tsotne Rogava vs. Alexander Flores

LOS ANGELES (September 12, 2024) – Toro Promotions, Inc. has been building an impressive stable of heavyweights and two, undefeated Tsotne Rogava (9-0, 7 KOs) and Alexander “The Great” Flores (19-4-1, 17 KOs), will square off in the 10-round co-main event on September 28th to launch Toro’s inaugural “Heartbeat of LA Boxing” series at Pacific Palms Resort in City of Industry, California.

In general, boxing fans enjoy watching the “big boys” battle and Rogava (6’ 5”, 270 lbs.) and Flores (6’ 4”, 260-lbs.) will be fighting for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) U.S. Heavyweight Championship.

Trained by Hall of Famer Joe Goossen, Rogava was a 2020 Ukraine Olympian who was born in Georgia and raised in Ukraine. The former world-class kickboxing and Muay Thai fighter now lives in Marina del Rey (CA).

Flores is one of the toughest opponents I’ve faced,” Rogava said. “He’s experienced and knows how to fight, so this is definitely not going to be an easy fight. But I don’t want easy fights. It’s important for me to grow and prove that I’m ready for serious challenges.

“Facing Flores is a great opportunity to show what I’m capable of. It’s going to be a tough, intense fight. I’m ready for any outcome, but I’m confident in myself, and hope to finish with a win, maybe, even early.”

Three of the more experienced Flores’ four career losses have been to world champions Charles Martin, Joseph Parker and Luis Ortiz.

“Tsotne has a lot of experience, maybe not as much as the three world champions I’ve faced, but he’s a hungry prospect trying to get to the top,” the Rowland Heights (CA) Flores commented. “Beating Tsonte gets me a step closer to a title shot, so it’s a must win for me. I think it’ll be boxing from the outside and inside fighting, but it will definitely end with my hands rained in the air in victory.”

Rogova and Flores are Toro stablemates as are other top heavyweights such as Kinsley “The Black Lion” Ibeh (12-2-1, 10 KOs) and undefeated Jay “The Outlaw” May (10-0, 9 KOs), who are slated to throwdown October 19th in the 10-round main event at Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Washington. Another Toro heavyweight, Dante Stone (17-1, 11 KOs) extended his win streak to 17 with an eight-round unanimous decision over Terrell Jamal Woods last week in Phoenix.

In the other co-main event, Walnut High senior Paolo “Pow” Barredo will make his long-awaited pro debut in a four-round featherweight bout against Mychaquell Shields (2-5, 0 KOs), of Alpine (CA).

Barredo was a celebrated U.S. amateur boxer who won 90 of 106 matches, highlighted by his 2021 Junior Olympics title-winning performance. He turns 18 two days prior to making his pro debut.

In a pair of six-round matches, Santa Ana (CA) junior lightweight Michael “El Chamuco” Bracamontes (9-2-1, 5 KOs) faces Arsen Poghosyan (3-2-1, 2 KOs), who fights out of Los Angeles, and undefeated Mission Hills (CA) junior welterweight Ricardo Sonny Robledo (9-0, 3 KOs) meets Matt Gaver (3-9-2, 1 KO), of Bakersfield (CA).

Six additional local fighters will make their pro debuts in four rounders: La Puente (CA) lightweight Alejandro Alvarado, a 2021 California State Silver Mittens Champion, vs. San Diego’s Eduardo Mondragon, Fontana welterweight Jesse Zuniga vs. Riverside’s Oscar Trujillo, and Riverside (CA) bantamweight Hector Oros vs. Alexander Robles, of Modesto (CA).

MICHAEL MCKINSON FACES TULANI MBENGE FOR IBO WORLD WELTERWEIGHT TITLE ON OCTOBER 19TH AT THE COPPER BOX ARENA IN LONDON

LONDON, UK (September 9, 2024) – Michael McKinson faces Tulani Mbenge for the vacant IBO World Welterweight Title on Saturday, October 19th at the Copper Box Arena in London, presented by BOXXER, live on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland and Peacock in the USA.

The south coast southpaw takes on South Africa’s Mbenge for the IBO crown as part of a blockbuster night of boxing in East London topped by the explosive super lightweight clash between Adam Azim and Ohara Davies.

McKinson (26-1, 4 KOs) returns to action following a unanimous points win over the previously undefeated Musah Lawson to claim the WBC International Silver Welterweight Championship in December in Bournemouth.

The 30-year-old from Portsmouth will now attempt to add the IBO Welterweight Title to his collection as he looks to establish himself on the world scene.

Mbenge (20-2, 15 KOs) will be fighting to reclaim the IBO strap he held in 2018 as the 33-year-old from Eastern Cape, South Africa returns to the UK for the first time as a professional having claimed bronze at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014.

“This is another exciting addition to a stacked fight night on October 19th at the Copper Box Arena,” said BOXXER founder and CEO Ben Shalom. “It’s a must win for both men as they look to establish themselves at the highest level of the sport. This is a chance for Michael McKinson to make the rest of the welterweight division stand up and take notice. He’ll need to be at his best to overcome a top-quality operator like Tulani Mbenge, who will be coming to rip up the script.”

Fights fans can expect an electric atmosphere when British super lightweight rivals Adam Azim and Ohara Davies go toe-to-toe in a highly charged contest on Saturday, October 19th at the Copper Box Arena in London.

This event is presented in association with official partners HELL Energy and That Prize Guy.

‘Live Championship Boxing’ Results: Paulino Pummels Porozo

MASHANTUCKET, CT – Alejandro “El Abusador” Paulino (18-0, 14 KOs) made the first defense of his WBC US Silver Lightweight Championship on Saturday, knocking out former Olympian Luis Porozo (17-11, 9 KOs) in round one of a scheduled 8 round contest.

The main event capped off CES Boxing’s ‘Live Championship Boxing,’ an 8-bout card taking place at Foxwoods Resort Casino and broadcast live on Swerve Combat TV. The first boxing card at Foxwoods in 5 years was an explosive night of concussive knockouts, with 6 of the 8 bouts ending in the first stanza.

The 26-year-old Paulino was headlining for the first time in his home state of Connecticut and making the first defense of the WBC title that he won in March.  After that title win, Paulino joined the Boston Butchers, fighting 16 times from April to July while leading the Butchers to the Team Combat League semifinals in their inaugural year.

In his way stood Porozo, an Ecuadorian Olympian who has shared the ring with the likes of Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington, Raymond Muratalla, and Henry Lebron.  While Porozo lost those fights, he was competitive in most of them, with only Muratalla stopping him early in round 3.

This fight was to be a gauge of how Paulino compares to those fighters, and he passed the test with flying colors.  ‘El Abusador’ wasted little time in getting acquainted with Porozo, dropping the 34-year-old with a perfectly placed right hand to the head seconds into the fight.

“I didn’t want to be too aggressive, because this is my first fight since fighting in the Team Combat League where I was only fighting one round,” admitted Paulino immediately after the fight. “I started to jab and wanted to feel him out for a few rounds and then go for it, but I just caught him with a clean right hand to the chin and he went down.”

Porozo was able to beat the count, but the New London-based Dominican smelled blood and went in for the kill, landing two crunching left uppercuts that caused Porozo to collapse to the canvas for the full count.  Time was 0:55 of round one.

“I knew I was going to stop him, but I thought he was going to give me more rounds considering that he went 8 rounds with ‘Shu Shu’ Carrington and Henry Lebron,” said Paulino of the normally durable Porozo.  “Muratalla is a big puncher who is ready for a title shot, and it took him 3 rounds.  I feel like I made a huge statement.  I’m after all the guys in my weight class.  I want to fight them all.  They went rounds with him and you’ve seen what I just did to him.”

Considering his future, Paulino announced that CES Boxing already has him penciled in for a fight card in November.

“I’m ready to fight anybody, but CES has a step-up opponent in mind for me,” said Paulino, adding a few choice words for the prospective opponent. “Toka Khan Clary, I heard you say that you’re going to knock me out. If you’re serious, sign the contract.  You’re asking people if I’m really like that. Well, get in the ring with me and you’ll find out if I’m like that.”

Fans will have a great fight to look forward to as the year comes to an end.

“King” Kevin Walsh reigns supreme over Yeifer Valencia

In the co-feature, “King” Kevin Walsh (14-0, 7 KOs) destroyed late replacement Yeifer Valencia (6-3, 5 KOs), knocking out the Venezuelan with a tremendous body shot in round one.

The Brockton native, who was scheduled to face Massachusetts rival Irvin Gonzalez in a turf war for super featherweight supremacy, had to settle for Valencia after the Worcester native withdrew from the fight citing an injury only 2 days prior.

The 31-year-old Walsh took out his frustrations on Valencia, feinting his way in before landing a series of body shots punctuated by a right to the liver that dropped Yeifer for the count. Time was 2 minutes of round one.

“I want to give my opponent a shout out for coming through and fighting like a man,” said Walsh after the victory.  “I had my original opponent back out due to an injury.  Irvin Gonzalez, heal up quick and let’s get it in.”

Other Results

Frances “Frank the Tank” Hogan (17-0, 15 KOs) made short work of Heber Rondon (20-7, 13 KOs), knocking out the Venezuelan veteran with a body shot at 2:27 of round 1 in a light heavyweight scrap.  Hogan, fighting for the first time since representing the Boston Butchers, started fast, landing quick combinations on the bigger Rondon, who responded with left hooks to the head.  Just as the fight was warming up, the Boston native landed a right hook, left hand combination to the body that dropped Rondon and had him writhing in pain for a 10 count.

Jacob “Lefty” Marrero (7-0, 6 KOs) continued his comeback after a 5-year hiatus, dropping late replacement Romel Tsanimp (3-5) 4 times for a third-round knockout.  Bridgeport, CT’s Marrero was the much faster fighter, landing quick combinations on Baltimore’s Tsanimp.  Romel came to fight, however, and was looking to land a big right hand in between Lefty’s body shots.  The fighters traded punches after the bell in an entertaining opening round.  Lefty wasted no time asserting himself in round 2, dropping the Baltimore resident with a right jab, left hand combination.  Tsanimp beat the count, but was immediately stunned by a left hand and dropped by another combination as the round came to an end.  Marrero looked to end matters in round 3, landing sharp counters to drop Tsanimp for a third time seconds into the round.  The tough Tsanimp refused to stay down, but Marrero launched a fighting ending right hook to the body that dropped him for good at 2:05 of round 3.

In an all-Connecticut showdown, unbeaten Waterbury native Mike “The Savage” Kimbel (7-0, 6 KOs) continued his impressive rise through the welterweight rankings, delivering a frightening knockout over New Britain’s Anthony Mora (4-3-1, 3 KOs) in a scheduled 6 round match.  The bigger Kimbel used a stiff jab to keep Mora off balance early on.  A jab, right hand combination stunned Mora, and a follow-up right hand to the side of the head caused Mora to collapse to the canvas, where he lay stiffly as the referee called off the bout at 2:22 of round 1.

Polish prospect Slawomir “The Heavy Hitter” Bohdziewicz improved to 5-0 (4 KOs), stopping Kevin Torian (3-2, 3 KOs) in spectacular fashion in round 4 of their cruiserweight contest. Stamford’s Bohdziewicz immediately went to work, opening a cut on Torian’s right eye in round 1 and bloodying the Tennessean’s nose in round 2 with stiff jabs.  The switch hitting Torian had a better round 3, but his success was short lived.  In round 4, the fighters traded shots, and Torian was rocked by a right hook before a massive follow-up left hand dropped him hard as he was backing up, causing the referee to immediately waive off the bout at 1:49 of the round.

18-year-old phenom Joseph Chisholm (2-0, 2 KOs) turned in another electric performance, blitzing the debuting Roberto Colon (0-1) in the very first stanza.  “J Elite” landed several lefts and rights to the head before turning his attention to Colon’s midsection.  A left to the body dropped Colon, but the New Bedford, MA fighter was able to beat the count.  The southpaw Chisholm was all over him, ripping shots to the body before a hellacious uppercut to the solar plexus forced Colon to turn his back and bend over in pain.  The referee had seen enough, mercifully stopping the bout at 2:31 of round 1.

In the opening bout of the evening, Douglas Marroquin improved to 3-0 (3 KOs), annihilating southpaw Katriel Young (0-3) in one round.  Marroquin made the most of his CES Boxing debut, stunning Young with a big right hand only seconds into the bout.  A left to the body caused Young to wince in pain, and a follow up body attack dropped him.  Young beat the count, but the 26-year-old was all over him, dropping the Michigan native again with a body shot.  Young beat the count once again, but the referee wisely chose to halt the fight at 1:42 of round one.

Run It Back: Robson Conceição-O’Shaquie Foster II Confirmed for Nov. 2 at Turning Stone Resort Casino LIVE on ESPN+

VERONA, N.Y. (Sept. 9, 2024) — As the debate over their first encounter remains intense, Robson Conceição and O’Shaquie Foster are wasting no time running it back.

Conceição will defend his WBC junior lightweight world title against Foster on Saturday, Nov. 2, at Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York. Conceição dethroned Foster via split decision in a fiercely contested matchup in July.

In the 10-round co-feature, lightweight contender Raymond Muratalla returns against the upset-hungry Jesus Perez.

Conceição-Foster II and Muratalla-Perez headline a stacked card that will stream live and exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+.

Former world title challenger Abraham “El Super” Nova (23-3, 16 KOs) will see action on the undercard in a 10-round junior lightweight tilt against Mexico’s Humberto Galindo (14-3-2, 11 KOs). Nova looks to end 2024 on a high note after close split decision losses to Foster in February and Andres Cortes in June.

Local favorite Bryce Mills (16-1, 5 KOs), from nearby Liverpool, New York, faces former world title challenger Hank Lundy (32-14-1, 14 KOs) in an eight-round junior welterweight contest.

Promoted by Top Rank, tickets go on sale Friday, Sept. 13 at 10 a.m. ET and can be purchased at the Turning Stone Resort Casino Box Office, charge by phone by calling 800.771.7711, or online at Ticketmaster.com.

“Conceição and Foster are eager to prove themselves following their initial fight,” said Top Rank Chairman Bob Arum. “This rematch is about setting things straight. Both want to show who the better man is, which will make for an exciting, competitive matchup, with the winner positioning himself for a chance at a unification bout.”

Conceição (19-2-1, 9 KOs), Brazil’s first Olympic boxing gold medalist, turned professional in November 2016. His losses have been to unbeaten world champions, suffering a narrow points defeat to then-WBC champ Oscar Valdez in September 2021 and a loss to Shakur Stevenson in a bid for two world titles one year later. After a no contest against Nicolas Polanco in June 2023, Conceição fought then-WBO champion Emanuel Navarrete to a majority draw that November. In April, he stopped Jose Guardado in seven rounds. Motivated by his perseverance to win Olympic gold on his third attempt, Conceição captured world title glory on his fourth try.

Conceição said, “I’m fully focused and ready for my first title defense. Every fight is a new opportunity to prove myself, and on November 2, I’ll step into the ring with the same determination and hunger that brought me here. I respect O’Shaquie Foster, but I will show why I’m the true champion. My team and I have worked tirelessly, and I’m confident our efforts will be rewarded again. Foster, don’t run in the ring! See you in Verona!”

Foster (23-3, 12 KOs) turned pro in 2012 following a decorated amateur career with over 100 fights and an alternate spot on the U.S. Olympic team. After early-career setbacks, including a split decision to Rolando Chinea in July 2016, he mounted a successful resurgence under the guidance of trainer Bobby Benton. Foster then went on a 12-fight winning streak, capturing the WBC crown with a points triumph over Rey Vargas in February 2023 and defending it on enemy turf with a thrilling 12th-round stoppage of Rocky Hernandez last October. Foster made the second defense of his strap by decisioning Nova in February.

Foster said, “I can’t wait for November 2. I’m ready to go out there and make a statement. That bad decision woke something up in me, and now all I can think about is the ‘get back.’ I want to thank everybody who pushed for the right thing to be done. Now the focus is to become a two-time champion.”

Muratalla (21-0, 16 KOs), a 27-year-old contender on the cusp of a world title opportunity, had a flawless 2023, going 3-0 with three knockouts. In March, he rose off the deck following a first-round knockdown to stop Galindo with a body shot in the ninth. That May, he opened the Devin Haney-Vasiliy Lomachenko pay-per-view by dismantling Jeremiah Nakathila in two rounds. He capped off the year in November by dispatching Mexican power puncher Diego Torres in eight. In 2024, Muratalla tallied points verdicts in 10-rounders versus Xolisani Ndongeni in March and former world champion Tevin Farmer in July.

Muratalla said, “I’m excited to get back in the ring. I like staying active, so fighting for the third time this year will keep me sharp as I get closer to a world title. Jesus Perez is tough and experienced. He’ll bring the fight, which means it will be an exciting clash where I can show my skills.”

Perez (25-5, 18 KOs) went 21-0 with 16 knockouts before suffering his first defeat against then-unbeaten Ruslan Madiyev in May 2018. Since then, the Tijuana, Mexico, native has tested the likes of welterweight contender Alexis Rocha and eventual WBO welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr. In his last outing, he upset former world champion Joseph Diaz Jr. by split decision.

Denaby Main’s Harper (14-2-2, 6 KOs), a former World Champion at Super-Featherweight and Super-Welterweight, will be looking to bounce back from her stoppage loss to WBO Welterweight World Champion Sandy Ryan last time out at Sheffield Arena in March.

Elsewhere on the card, Liverpool Super-Bantamweight talent Peter McGrail (9-0, 5 KOs) meets former British and Commonwealth 122 lbs champion Brad Foster (15-3-2, 5 KOs) over ten rounds for the WBA International Title, Blyth Lightweight prospect Cameron Vuong (5-0, 3 KOs) looks to extend his unbeaten streak against Beeston’s Joe Underwood Hughes (8-3-0, 1 KO) and Billericay Middleweight George Liddard (8-0, 4 KOs) fights York’s George Davey (9-1-1, 2 KOs) over eight rounds.

Guildford Super-Featherweight standout Giorgio Visioli (4-0, 3 KOs) aims to make it four wins from four in 2024, Birmingham Lightweight Ibraheem Sulaimaan (4-0, 3 KOs) gets his third fight of the year, Brentwood Middleweight Jimmy Sains (6-0, 6 KOs) looks to make it seven knockouts from seven fights, Swansea Featherweight Brandon Scott (7-0, 1 KO) returns and there’s action for Durham Super-Bantamweight Josh Babb (2-0).

Franklin Ignatius said: “Jeamie beat me by one point in the amateurs. I’m looking to avenge that defeat. I know it will be a tough fight but it’ll be entertaining and I’m confident that I’ll win. I’m thankful to BOXXER and Sky Sports for the opportunity and I plan on taking full advantage of it.”

HIGH VOLTAGE: ADAM AZIM AND OHARA DAVIES SET FOR EXPLOSIVE SUPER LIGHTWEIGHT CLASH ON OCTOBER 19TH AT THE COPPER BOX ARENA IN LONDON

LONDON, UK (September 5, 2024) – Adam Azim and Ohara Davies are set for an explosive super lightweight clash on Saturday, October 19th at The Copper Box Arena in London, presented by BOXXER, live on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland and Peacock in the USA.

SIGN UP NOW FOR ACCESS TO PRESALE TICKETS

The British rivals collide as part of a blockbuster night of action in East London that will see one of boxing’s brightest young stars Azim (11-0, 8 KOs) step up to face Hackney’s hard-punching ‘Two Tanks’ Davies (25-3, 18 KOs).

Having won and defended the European Title in record time, Azim puts his undefeated record on the line as he looks to continue his impressive career trajectory and prove he is ready for the biggest names in the division.

Davies, a former British and Commonwealth Champion, returns to the ring with a point to prove following an unsuccessful attempt at the WBA Interim Super Lightweight crown and the chance to get back into world title contention.

Both men started their boxing journeys at East London’s iconic Peacock Gym with Azim, a prodigious young talent, looking up to Davies who, ten years his senior, was already building a fearsome reputation on the amateur circuit.

Adam Azim said: “I can’t wait to get back in the ring and back to what I do best. It was a great honour to win and defend the European Title but now I’m ready for my next challenge. I’ve known Ohara Davies for many years. I respect him and what he’s achieved in the sport but when we meet in the ring, he’s just another opponent and another step on my journey to the top. He’s a good fighter. I think our styles will make for an exciting fight but there’s only going to be one outcome. I’m ready to make a statement and show everybody that I’m ready for the biggest names in the division.”

Ohara Davies said: “I’m excited for this fight. I like Adam Azim. I’ve known him since he was very young and it’s amazing to see his success so far in boxing. I followed him in the amateurs, and I’ve always respected him. But he isn’t a kid anymore. He’s grown into a man with massive potential. And that’s why it’s a shame that I have to hand him his first defeat.  No needle, no hate, I want us to go back to our families happy and healthy after the fight. But this is where it all changes for him. I’m sorry Adam. This is where it ends.”

BOXXER founder and CEO Ben Shalom said: “We’re delighted to confirm this blockbuster super lightweight showdown between Adam Azim and Ohara Davies. Adam Azim is undoubtedly one of the brightest young stars in world boxing. At just 22 years of age, he has already won and defended the European Title, and can now prove he’s ready for world level by taking on a very dangerous opponent in Ohara Davies. Ohara will have experience on his side, he has fought at a much higher level and possesses great knockout power. It’s going to be a big step up for Adam in just his twelfth fight but I’m sure it’s a fight that fans are going to enjoy and we look forward to an action-packed fight night on October 19th at The Copper Box Arena.”

Fights fans can expect an electric atmosphere in East London when British super lightweight rivals Adam Azim and Ohara Davies go toe-to-toe in a highly charged contest on Saturday, October 19th at The Copper Box Arena.”

Norfolk Dreamin’: Keyshawn Davis Returns Home to Face Gustavo Lemos in Lightweight Main Event November 8 at Scope Arena LIVE on ESPN+

NORFOLK, Va. (Sept. 4, 2024) — Keyshawn “The Businessman” Davis is closing in on a world title shot, but first, he must defend his home turf. The lightweight contender and U.S. Olympic silver medalist will face Argentina-born puncher Gustavo Lemos in the 10-round main event on Friday, Nov. 8, at Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia.

In the world championship co-feature, WBO welterweight king Brian Norman Jr. will defend his crown against Puerto Rican puncher Derrieck Cuevas

The undercard will feature the other members of “DB3.” Keyshawn’s older brother, rising junior welterweight Kelvin “Night Night” Davis (13-0, 7 KOs), fights Yeis Solano (15-3, 10 KOs) in an eight-rounder. Keyshawn’s younger brother, U.S. Olympic Trials champion Keon Davis, will make his pro debut in a four-round welterweight contest.

The entire Davis-Lemos card will stream live and exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+.

Promoted by Top Rank, ticket information will be announced shortly.

“As a young kid growing up in Norfolk, I dreamed of accomplishing enough to headline a card at Scope Arena one day. My boxing idol is the legendary Pernell ‘Sweet Pea’ Whitaker, and I want to pack that arena like he used to. He’s the greatest from my city, and I’m honored to continue that legacy,” Keyshawn Davis said. “I can’t wait to put on a spectacular show against a tough opponent in Gustavo Lemos. Everyone from the 757 will be in my corner.”

“Norfolk has been waiting for Keyshawn Davis to come home for years. This is going to be a great night of fights headlined by a real competitive main event,” said Top Rank Chairman Bob Arum. “Lemos is full of confidence, and Keyshawn will have to be in top form on November 8 at Scope Arena.”

Davis (11-0, 7 KOs) enters his homecoming celebration ranked No. 3 at lightweight by the WBO, IBF, and WBC. He earned those rankings with two devastating showings to begin the year, starting with February’s sixth-round TKO of former two-division world champion Jose Pedraza. Five months later, he thrilled the crowd at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, dominating Mexican puncher Miguel Madueño over 10 rounds. He now makes his headlining debut in the biggest boxing event Scope Arena has seen since Whitaker defended his welterweight crown against Buddy McGirt in October 1994.

Lemos (29-1, 19 KOs), from Buenos Aires, Argentina, returns to the lightweight ranks for the first time in over two years. He last fought at 135 pounds in March 2022, when he stopped British former world champion Lee Selby in five rounds in front of his hometown fans. Lemos returned to action in December 2023, starching Javier Jose Clavero in the opening round. That set the stage for his American debut in April. Lemos traveled to Las Vegas for an IBF junior welterweight world title eliminator and was on the short end of a 12-round decision to American standout Richardson Hitchins. While many experts believed Lemos deserved the nod, he now moves down five pounds to face another unbeaten American mega-talent.

Lemos said, “This is a big occasion for Keyshawn Davis, and I am coming to Norfolk to spoil the party. He picked the wrong guy. On November 8, he’ll find out the truth. He’s not on my level.”

Norman (26-0, 20 KOs) is boxing’s youngest male world champion, a native of Atlanta who turned pro in 2018 at the age of 17. The 23-year-old made his Top Rank debut in early 2023 and was unbeaten in four fights with the company before May’s showdown with Giovani Santillan. The heavily favored Santillan was fighting in front of his hometown fans in San Diego, and Norman pulled off the upset win via 10th-round knockout. He won the WBO interim world title with that stunner and was elevated to full champion in August.

Cuevas (27-1-1, 19 KOs), the WBO No. 7 contender, enters his first world title fight riding a four-fight knockout streak that began in December 2022 with a second-round blitzing of Esneiker Correa. The undercard is also scheduled to include the following young talents:

One of boxing’s most exciting rising stars, Tszyu will look to regain his status as world champion against the reigning unbeaten titleholder Murtazaliev in this high stakes main event. Additional undercard bouts available on Prime Video will be announced shortly.

Tickets for the live event go on sale tomorrow, Wednesday, September 4 at 12 p.m. ET will be available through Ticketmaster.

The event is promoted by TGB Promotions. The main event is promoted in association with No Limit Boxing and Main Events.

“Tim Tszyu is one of the most fan-friendly fighters in the sport and he proved it again in his last outing by battling through a gruesome cut to give fans 12 rounds of action,” said Tom Brown, President of TGB Promotions. “Most fighters would have bowed out, but Tszyu kept pushing forward and will bring that same mentality into this matchup against the reigning IBF 154-Pound World Champion Bakhram Murtazaliev. The super welterweight division is absolutely loaded with talent and the winner of this fight will be in excellent position to face the other big names at 154-pounds. It’s the perfect fight to headline action on Prime Video on Saturday, October 19 at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando.”

“Even before his spectacular win against Jack Culcay to earn the IBF title in Germany, Bakhram made it clear that he wanted Tim Tszyu next,” said Kathy Duva, CEO of Main Events. “He also said he wanted the matchup to happen in the U.S. so that everyone could see him fight, so I’m really happy that this deal came together to take place in front of a wide audience on Prime Video. Both of these fighters tend to come forward and engage and I would not be surprised if this turns out to be the Fight of the Year.”

“There are very few fighters in the world that can endure what Tim went through in his last fight and come out bigger, better and stronger than before,” said George Rose, CEO of No Limit Boxing. “Tim Tszyu is that guy. He lives to fight and has a warrior spirit that is completely unbreakable. You won’t want to miss this. He is about to remind everyone why he is the best 154 pounder in the world on October 19.”

Tszyu (24-1, 17 KOs) lost his WBO 154-Pound World Title in his last outing, as he took an incidental elbow from Sebastian Fundora in round three that opened up one of the most grisly cuts in recent boxing memory, and which severely hampered Tszyu on his way to losing a narrow split-decision on March 30.

The 29-year-old son of International Boxing Hall of Famer Kostya Tszyu, he came into that fight off a red-hot 2023 campaign that saw him elevated to world champion at 154-pounds while defeating former world champion Tony Harrison, top contender Brian Mendoza and former title challenger Carlos Ocampo. A native of Sydney, Australia, Tszyu made his U.S debut against U.S. Olympian Terrell Gausha in March 2022, earning a unanimous decision. Tszyu grew up playing soccer, but soon gravitated toward boxing. The decision led to him following in the legendary footsteps of his father, Kostya, who was an undisputed 140-pound champion.

“At this level, you have to take everyone out and Bakhram is the next guy standing in my way,” said Tszyu. “The world knows me and they know what I’m about. I’m thankful to my team for putting me in this position to prove why I’m still the man at 154 pounds. Bakhram has what I want and I plan on taking it from him in spectacular fashion. It’s time to become a two-time world champion.”

Now residing in Oxnard, California, the Russian Murtazaliev (22-0, 16 KOs) joined the ranks of world champion in his last outing as he looks to make his first title defense on October 19. Murtazaliev defeated Jack Culcay on his home turf of Germany in April of this year to win the IBF title with a dramatic 11th-round stoppage.

The 31-year-old has fought professionally since 2014 and debuted stateside in November 2016 with a knockout over the previously unbeaten Botirsher Obidov. Murtazaliev continued his climb with an impressive three-win 2019 campaign that culminated in a unanimous decision over Jorge Fortea in November that earned him the mandatory slot with the IBF. He’d go on to add four more victories between September 2020 and December 2022 before stepping into the title showdown against Culcay.

“I’m extremely happy and excited to defend my world title on Prime Video against a strong opponent like Tim Tszyu,” said Murtazaliev. “I just want Tim to be in the best shape possible and not get any injuries so we can give this fight to the fans.”
