In an action packed war, Maliek Montgomery won a 10-round unanimous decision over Aleem Jumakhonov in a featherweight battle in Bakersfield, California.

The two banged away on the inside, landing heavy shots. Montgomery landed many more and some thudding shots that swelled the left eye of Jumakhonov.

Montgomery landed 339 of 973 punches; Jumakhonov was 185 of 864.

Montgomery, 126 lbs of Macon, GA won by scores of 100-90, 99-91 and 98-92 and is now 11-0. Jumakhonov, 125 lbs of Resada, CA is 9-4-2.

Juarez Decisions Lopez

Omar Juarez won a eight-round unanimous decision over Jairo Lopez in super lightweight fight.

In round five, Juarez landed a big right that sent Lopez to a knee.

Juarez landed 195 of 557 punches; Lopez was 103 of 466.

Juarez, 142 lbs of Brownsville, TX won by scores of 80-71, and 79-72 twice and is now 12-1. Lopez, 141 lbs of Nuvo Leon, MEX is 23-14.

Barrientes Decisions Torres

Angel Barrientes won a six-round unanimous decision over Victor Torres in a super bantamweight fight.

In round three, Barrientes began to bleed from the nose.

Barrientes landed 118 of 344 punches; Torres was 60 of 344.

Barrientes, 121.4 lbs of Las Vegas, NV won by scores of 60-54 on all cards and is now 6-1. Torres, 121.6 lbs of Modesto, CA is 7-9-1.

On Saturday, rising lightweight prospect Jose Valenzuela will put his unbeaten record on the line against Colombia’s Deiner Berrio in the 10-round main event. That telecast will begin at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT and feature undefeated super middleweight prospect Suray Mahmutovic stepping into the ring for six rounds of action against unbeaten Pachino Hill, while undefeated featherweights Rajon Chance and Elon de Jesus battle in a six-round attraction.

On Sunday, undefeated super featherweight prospect Maliek Montgomery faces Aleem Jumakhonov in a 10-round headlining bout. That telecast begins at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT and will see all-action super lightweight Omar “El Relámpago” Juárez in an eight-round attraction against Mexico’s Jairo Lopez, plus exciting prospect Angel Barrientes competes in a four-round super bantamweight showdown taking on Victor Torres.

Born in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico, Valenzuela (9-0, 6 KOs) now trains in Seattle as a stablemate of unbeaten two-time champion David Benavidez. The 22-year-old turned pro in 2018 and is currently on a five-bout knockout streak that includes 2021 victories over Nelson Hampton and Clay Burns. In his last outing, Valenzuela stopped Donte Strayhorn in the fourth-round of their August 21 bout. He takes on the 30-year-old Berrio (22-3-1, 13 KOs), who represents his native Columbia while fighting out of Los Angeles. All three of Berrio’s defeats have come against unbeaten fighters and have gone the distance, including his last outing, which saw him drop his U.S. debut to Juan Pablo Romero in April.

Mahmutovic (3-0, 3 KOs) began his pro career with three-straight knockout victories before he makes his U.S. debut as a pro on September 18. The 23-year-old was born in San Francisco and now resides in Daly City, California. Mahmutovic picked up all of his knockout victories in 2021, scoring wins in April, May and July. He squares off against Davenport, Iowa’s Hill (6-0, 5 KOs) in a battle of unbeatens. The 24-year-old Hill debuted in February 2020, with three-straight stoppage victories, having most recently defeated Brandt Cooper in August.

The 21-year-old Chance (5-0, 5 KOs) will look to keep his perfect record intact when he returns to the ring on September 18. A native of East Orange, New Jersey, Chance began his 2021 by knocking out Marco Lara in the first round in July. Chance will be taking on the 27-year-old de Jesus (3-0, 2 KOs) in a rematch of their 2018 amateur clash that Chance won by split-decision. Fighting out of Dunkirk, New York, de Jesus most recently defeated Jetter Soriano by unanimous decision in August.

The 25-year-old Montgomery (10-0, 10 KOs) turned pro in 2017 after an impressive amateur career that included two national Golden Gloves titles and victories over recognizable names such as Edgar Berlanga, Keeshawn Williams and Joseph Adorno, to name a few. The Macon, Georgia born fighter has stopped all 10 of his opponents inside of the distance in his pro career to date. He will face the 28-year-old Jumakhonov (9-3-2, 5 KOs), who most recently knocked out Jorge Ramos in September 2020. Born in Horoh, Tajikistan, Jumakhonov now fights out of Reseda, California.

Juárez (11-1, 5 KOs) will look to bounce back after his first defeat, which came via decision in an exciting showdown against All Rivera in June. Juárez has been lauded as much for his work outside the ring as he has for what he’s accomplished in it. After graduating high school in his native Brownsville, Texas, the 22-year-old dedicated himself to giving back to the state’s youth through motivational speaking and received recognition from the Texas State Senate and the Texas House of Representatives for his efforts. He takes on the 30-year-old Lopez (26-13, 17 KOs), who hails from Nuevo Leon, Mexico and lost by decision to Anthony Peterson in his last outing.

The younger of the Barrientes twins by 13 minutes, Ángel Barrientes (5-1, 4 KOs) had an impressive amateur career, winning 14 national tournaments and three international. The 19-year-old turned pro in November 2019, winning his first three fights before dropping a December 2020 contest to Travon Lawson. Barrientes last fight saw him stop Linus Lambert in the first round in August. He squares off against the 27-year-old Torres (7-8-1, 5 KOs), who fights out of Modesto, California and has won five-straight bouts heading into September 19.

Former world title challenger Egidijus Kaviauskas stopped Mikael Zewski in in round eight of their scheduled 10-round welterweight bout at the MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas.

In round three, Kavaliauskas started to swell under his right eye.

In round eight, Kavaliauskas landed a huge right uppercut that hurt Zewski badly. Kavaliauskas jumped on Zewski and put him down with about 10 unanswered punches. Kavaliauskas came out in round eight and landed a booming right in the opening seconds that put Zewski down again, and the fight was stopped at seven seconds.

Zewski was ahead on two cards 67-65 and Kavaliauskas was ahead 67-65 on the other card at the time of the stoppage.

Kavaliauskas, 146.5 lbs of Lithuania is now 22-1-1 with 18 knockouts. Zewski, 147 lbs of Trois-Rivieries, CAN is 34-2.

Kavaliauskas said, “I was controlling the fight. I was never in danger. I was never hurt.
 
“I wanted to knock him out faster, but it happened this way. You can never count on the knockout. I was working. I was putting pressure on him. I saw him slowing down round by round. I saw him getting weaker and weaker. I was just blocking his punches and not feeling his power.
 
“I don’t think Crawford has any other choices at welterweight. I can ask his team, with all due respect, to give me a rematch because these guys have no opponents yet.”

Gonzalez Decisions Marriaga

Joet Gonzalez won a 10-round unanimous decision over Miguel Marriaga in a battle of former featherweight world title challengers.

In round nine, Marriaga was cut over his right eye.

Gonzalez landed 234 of 732 punches. Marriaga was 127 of 622.

Gonzalez, 125.8 lbs of Glendora, CA won by scores of 99-91 twice and 97-93 and is now 24-1. Marriaga, 125.9 lbs of Ajona, COL is 29-4.

Gonzalez said, “This puts me back in the position I want to be. I wanted to be back in with tough guys. I told my manager, Frank Espinoza, and my team at Golden Boy that I didn’t want no tune-up fights. I wanted to show people that I could compete with the top guys and be in with heavy hitters and boxers and compete for another title real soon.
 
“I want another world title shot. I think I’ve earned it.”

Jumakhanov stops Ramos

Aleem Jumakhanov stopped Jorge Ramos in round three of a scheduled eight-round featherweight bout.

In round three, Jumakhanov dropped Ramos with a hard right to the head for the ten count at 2:02.

Jumakhanov, 126.5 lbs of Reseda, CA is now 9-3-2 with five knockouts. Ramos, 127 lbs of Laredo, TX is now 7-3-1.

In a battle of undefeated bantamweight, Manuel Flores stopped Jonathan Rodriguez in round five of a scheduled six-round bout.

In round three, Flores put Rodriguez down with a left hook. In round five, Flores landed a hard left that snapped the head of Rodriguez back, and then a follow up flurry had the fight stopped at 1:11.

Flores, 117.3 lbs of Coachella, CA is 9-0 with six knockouts. Rodriguez, 118 lbs of Bethlehem, PA is 8-1.

Anthony Chavez won a six-round unanimous decision over Adan Gonzales in a junior lightweight bout.

In round one, Gonzales dropped Chavez with a right over the top. The replays showed the knockdown was caused by a headbutt and was rescinded. In round three, Chavez landed a left hook that drove Gonzales into the ropes, which was ruled a knockdown.

Chavez, 129.1 lbs of San Bernadino, CA won by scores of 58-56 on all cards and is now 9-1. Gonzalez, 129.1 lbs of Denver, CO is 5-4-2.

Eric Puente remained perfect by winning a four-round unanimous decision over Luis Norambuena in a lightweight bout.

Puente boxed well and used his jab to set up good shots, which included a couple of nice uppercuts.

Puente, 137.7 lbs of San Diego, CA won by scores of 40-36 twice and 39-37 and is now 4-0. Norambuena, 135.6 lbs of Talca, CHL is 4-6-1.

Felix Verdejo stopped previously undefeated Will Madera in the 1st round of their scheduled 10-round lightweight bout at The MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Towards the end of the end of the 1st round, Verdejo landed a big uppercut that hurt Madera. The follow up flurry sent Madera back to the ropes where Vadera landed a vicious combination that sent Madera on his back. Madera wobbled as he got to his feet and the bout was stopped 2:59.

Verdejo, 135.9 lbs of San Juan, PR is 27-1 with 17 knockouts. Madera, 135.8 lbs of Albany, NY is 15-1-3.

“I am proud of the work I put in with my trainer, Ismael Salas. The hard work is paying off,” Verdejo said. “Madera is a good fighter, but when I had him hurt, I knew I could finish him.

“As for what’s next, Vasiliy Lomachenko is the top guy at lightweight. We have unfinished business from when he beat me in the Olympics. That’s the fight I ultimately want.”

Martino Jules remained undefeated by winning an eight-round majority decision over Aleem Jumakhonov in a featherweight bout

In round three , Jules began to bleed from the nose, but Jules outlanded Jumakhonov 217-91.

Jules, 127 lbs of Allentown, PA won by scores of 78-74 twice and 76-76, and is now 10-0. Jumakhonov, 125.1 lbs of Reseda, CA is 8-3-2.

Jared Anderson remained perfect by stopping Hector Perez in the opening round of their scheduled four-round heavyweight bout.

In round one, Anderson landed a six-punch combination that was dinished up with a hard right hand to head that sent Perez down, and the fight was stopped at 1:45.

Anderson, 241.8 lbs of Toledo, OH is 5-0 with five knockouts. Perez, 220.7 lbs of Tamaranc, FL is 7-3.

Kenneth Davis Jr. scored a four-round majority decision over Eduardo Sanchez in a lightweight bout.

In round three, Davis dropped Sanchez with a left to the body. In round four, Davis was deducted a point for spitting out his mouthpiece.

Sanchez outlanded Davis 102-86.

Davis, 134.5 lbs of Reno, NV won by scores of 38-36 twice and 37-37 to raise his mark to 3-2-1. Sanchez, 134.6 lbs of Corcoran, CA is 2-3.
