She earned her most recent TKO win in September 2025 on MVP’s Most Valuable Prospects 15.

“I’m proud to be part of the first all-women’s main card on ESPN,” said Tamm Thibeault. “ESPN and MVP are making a statement by putting women’s boxing at the forefront, and on Friday, April 17, I’ll be ready to show my talent, my elegance, and exactly why I belong on this stage.”

Nadja Jesus Santos has represented Brazil in national and international competitions and is part of the new generation of athletes helping strengthen women’s boxing in the country. Born in Brazil, she developed an interest in sports at a young age and discovered boxing as both a passion and a path for personal growth. She advanced through regional competitions before representing her state and later Brazil in amateur tournaments, with an amateur record of 65 fights with 50 wins and 15 losses. She is a two-time Brazilian champion as well as the current Brazilian champion. Inside the ring, she is recognized for a tactical style that combines speed with defensive awareness. Her performances have contributed to the continued rise of women’s boxing in Brazil, helping inspire younger athletes to pursue the sport and further expanding opportunities for female fighters nationwide.

“Fighting in New York, at a major MVP event, is proof that all the work, sacrifice, and dedication are paying off,” said Nadja Jesus Santos. “Facing Tamm Thibeault will be a big challenge, but I am prepared and motivated to show my progress inside the ring. Representing my team, my country, and all the people who believe in me gives me even more strength. I will step into that ring with a lot of determination, heart, and desire to win. It is a huge opportunity, and I am ready to seize it.”

MVP’s rising bantamweight contender and Amanda Serrano’s protege, Krystal Rosado is a 23-year-old sensation and Carolina, Puerto Rico native who made her professional debut on MVP’s Most Valuable Prospects 2 show in August 2023, stunning fans with a ferocious second-round KO. Rosado went on to collect a win on MVP’s historic Serrano vs. Ramos card in October 2023 before appearing in front of her home fans at the legendary Coliseo de Puerto Rico in San Juan as part of MVP’s Jake Paul vs. Ryan Bourland in March 2024, taking home a majority decision win, which she followed with a swift knockout victory at MVP’s Most Valuable Prospects 7 in July 2024. She returned for Most Valuable Prospects 9 in October 2024 where she earned a UD win. Following another dominant UD win in March 2025, Rosado competed with three minute rounds—equal rules to men—during the fight week Open Workouts for MVP and Netflix’s Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano 3 all-women’s mega-event, winning by unanimous decision. But I’m coming to New York to give everything I have and continue the great momentum my team and I have been building,” said Krystal Rosado. “I’m ready to put on a spectacular show for the fans and prove once again why I belong at the top. Her nickname, “Torita,” originally belonged to her late father, and she adopted it in his honor. Reyes Delgado developed a standout amateur career, compiling an impressive stated amateur record of 80 wins, 2 losses, and 4 draws while building a reputation for a style that blends technical skill with aggression and a willingness to exchange in the ring.

“I’m proud to be part of this historic event and facing a talented boxer like Krystal Rosado,” said Fernanda Reyes. “I am sure we will keep the tradition alive of an all out war between Puerto Ricans and Mexicans inside the ring. For those that don’t know me, don’t miss this one. I don’t step back, and I’m coming to win. I am ready to put on a show and come out victorious.”

“MVPW was created to give the best women in boxing the same platform, spotlight, and opportunity as male counterparts in the sport, and this card shows exactly what that looks like,” said Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian, co-founders of Most Valuable Promotions. “We’re proud to have women leading the charge with MVPW. This is what true equality in the sport looks like. For years, women fought on the undercards of men’s events, and now the roles can be reversed, with the best female fighters headlining, supported by incredible male talent on the undercard. MVPW-02 highlights the incredible depth of talent in women’s boxing today and bringing this event to New York at Madison Square Garden and delivering it live on ESPN is another major step in establishing MVPW as the global home for women’s boxing.”

Especially on a huge MVP show, I’m grateful for the opportunity that they’ve given me but I’m not just coming to take part, I’m coming to make a statement and show everyone exactly who I am.”

Alex “El Toro” Vargas fights out of Bellport, New York. He began boxing at age six and built an accomplished amateur career highlighted by two Junior Olympic titles and a major victory at the New York Golden Gloves, where he won the 165lb title and was named Fighter of the Tournament. A standout multi-sport athlete and captain of the football and wrestling teams in high school, Vargas stepped away from boxing to pursue his education, earning degrees from Suffolk County Community College and SUNY Cortland, and studying Spanish in Colombia. After returning to the sport, he became a 2018 Golden Gloves finalist, then turned professional later that year, developing a reputation for slick footwork and speed while training alongside elite fighters including Richard Commey, Chris Colbert, Chris Algieri, and Sergiy Derevyanchenko. Outside the ring, Vargas serves his community as a police officer with the Suffolk County Police Department.

“I’ve been doubted my entire career, but that’s what motivated me,” said Alex Vargas. “Fighting at Madison Square Garden is a dream, and on Friday, April 17th it’s time to beat another undefeated fighter and prove I belong here.”

Ryan “The Silent Assassin” O’Rourke was born and raised in Dublin, Ireland. With around 70 amateur bouts, he was a finalist at the prestigious Eindhoven Box Cup in 2019 and 2020 Irish National Boxing Championships semifinalist. He then turned pro, earning his first seven wins across the United Kingdom, Spain, and Brussels. He made his U.S. debut in April 2022 with a dominant six-round shutout over Faycal Rezkallah, then returned later that year to score a first-round TKO against Andreas Maier. A tall, rangy 140-pounder who uses his reach, angles, and body work effectively, O’Rourke most recently delivered a standout victory over Boubacar Sylla, further establishing himself as one of Ireland’s rising contenders.

”This is the sort of opportunity I’ve been waiting for. Big thanks to Joe DeGuardia, Sheer Sports and MVP for giving it to me,” said Ryan O’Rourke. “To come all the way from Ireland and fight in such and iconic venue like MSG is a dream come true, but these are the sort of cards and venues I’ve always seen myself boxing on, so on Friday, April 17th I’m coming to put on a standout performance and announce myself on the big stage.”

STAR BOXING DELIVERS UNBELIEVABLE ACTION AT “ROCKIN’ FIGHTS 45” FROM THE PARAMOUNT

Huntington, New York – [October 29, 2023] – Fans and fighters alike are still buzzing from the unbelievable action that unfolded at last night’s sold out “Rockin’ Fights 45,” presented by Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing at The Paramount in Huntington, New York.  This unforgettable night of pugilistic prowess had fans on the edge of their seats, and it’s safe to say that the stars aligned for an electrifying showcase of the sweet science.

In the main event, ALEX “EL TORO” VARGAS (now 14-0 5 KO’s, Bellport, NY) went toe to toe with JULIO “EL PANTERA” ROSA (now 8-4 4 KO’s, Orlando, FL) for the vacant WBA Continental USA Super Lightweight Title. Out of the gate, in a shock to the sold-out crowd, Rosa landed a perfectly thrown clean straight right hand that sent the undefeated Suffolk County Police Officer Alex Vargas to the canvas for the first time in his professional career. Facing such an adversity for the first time, Vargas responded well, centering himself and fighting his style of fight. While some rounds were close, and at times the fight became more of a battle of wills, Vargas settled in and edged out the close rounds with technical skills, fighting his way back to earn a unanimous decision victory and the new WBA Continental USA Champion. (78-73 x2, 77-74).

In the WBA Continental USA Super Welterweight championship co-main event, WENDY “HAITIAN FIRE” TOUSSAINT (now 15-2 7 KO’s, Huntington, NY) wasted no time getting to work as he staggered JERMONE “QUADRUPLE J” JONES JR (now 7-2 6 KO’s, Phoenix, AZ), in the first thirty seconds, before unloading an onslaught of punches. Both men would settle in, but Toussaint was a man on a mission, dictating the action and controlling the tempo of the fight. A Toussaint one-two combination at the end of the first round sent Jones to the canvas for the first time. Then with 29 seconds left in the third round, and Jones pinned in the corner, Toussaint dropped Jones for the second time. With just 2 seconds left in the third round, and another Toussaint onslaught, Referee Pat Sullivan stepped in to call a stop to the fight, declaring Wendy Toussaint the winner by TKO3, and the new WBA Continental USA Champion.

The undercard was electric from start to finish. In a 4-round super featherweight bout, Star Boxing’s ERICK “EL CANETE” PEREZ (now 2-0, Passaic, NJ) was cruising against KESLAIRE “X MAN” EXAVIER (now 0-1, Las Vegas, NV) when a picture-perfect check left hook landed clean on the button dropping Perez for the first time in his professional career. The sensational highlight reel blow landed Perez on the floor with 45 seconds left in the fourth and final round. However, the Mexican warrior showed he has the heart of a champion. To the amazement of the crowd, and everyone watching around the world on StarBoxing.TV and Swerve.TV, Perez somehow rose from the canvas and continued the fight as if nothing happened, launching a barrage of punches. The fight went to the cards and Perez won the unanimous decision victory (38-37 x3).

The 4-round light heavyweight bout between LOU “IL MARTELLO” MAIETTA (now 3-4-1, Bronx, NY) and FRANK “MAGIC” MONACO (now 1-0, Glen Cove, NY) quite literally brought the house down. The foundation of The Paramount shook as fans cheered on their fighter. Maietta opened the action right out of the gate, landing a right hand that caught the attention of Monaco. Monaco gathered himself and returned the favor as the fight continued to heat up. Each fighter had their moments in each round. Monaco landed his best punch in the third round when a solid right hand tagged Maietta. The fight went the distance and the extremely close fight went to the scorecards with Monaco edging out the victory with a majority decision. (39-37 x2 Monaco, 38-38 Draw).

DOMINIC BREEN (now 0-3, Staten Island, NY) and JOSEPH “GI JOE” ELZEY (now 1-0, Bronx, NY) put on an exciting display of wills, as the first round closed with a mele from both Elzey and Breen eating punches to dish out their own. Late in the second an overhand right from Elzey snapped Breen’s head back, followed by an overhand left and right that drew Breen back into the ropes, which referee Al LoBianco determined were holding up the hurt Breen, and declared it a knockdown. Ten seconds into the third, Elzey landed another overhand right causing a highlight reel knockdown and followed it up another power combination causing referee LoBianco to stop the bout at the 1:50 mark of the third round.

Finally in the opening bout of the evening, EMMANUEL ETIENNE (now 4-1 2 KO’s, Uniondale, NY) settled any questions with OLUWALE “HOLY WAR ANGEL” BAMGBOSE (now 0-2, Bronx, NY) in their 4-round cruiserweight rematch, as Etienne dropped Bamgbose with 18 seconds left in the second round with a vicious body shot followed by a devastating uppercut. Bamgbose was unable to continue due to a torn bicep. Etienne earned the win by TKO2.

Star Boxing, the longest running and most active promoter in New York once again solidified its reputation of thrilling action fights with “Rockin’ Fights 45.” From the moment the opening bell rang, fight fans were treated to an evening of pulse-pounding, edge-of-your-seat action that left no doubt as to why this series is so highly acclaimed.

JOE DEGUARDIA, CEO of Star Boxing, expressed his enthusiasm about the thrilling night of boxing, saying, “I’ve been in this sport for many years, and ‘Rockin’ Fights 45′ was an adrenaline-charged, fan captivating show that was a privilege to promote.  Our team at Star Boxing is dedicated to bringing the best action fights to fight fans, and we will continue to build, develop and grow the sport from the ground level up, delivering memorable moments like last night. Congratulations to Alex Vargas and Wendy Toussaint on winning their respective WBA Continental USA Championships and to ALL the other combatants who make me proud to be a promoter in this great sport. We look forward to being back at the Paramount on February 23, 2024 for “Rockin’ Fights” 46!”

VACANT WBA CONTINENTAL USA SUPER WELTERWEIGHT TITLE ANNOUNCED FOR WENDY TOUSSAINT VS JERMONE JONES AT SOLD OUT “ROCKIN’ FIGHTS” 45

Huntington, New York (October 25, 2023) — A SOLD-OUT “Rockin’ Fights” is just three days away. The anticipation continues to grow as Star Boxing is pleased to announce that the 45th edition of the critically acclaimed fight series will feature a WBA Continental USA doubleheader. Along with the already announced WBA Continental USA main event between ALEX “EL TORO” VARGAS (13-0 5 KO’s, Bellport, NY) and JULIO “EL PANTERA” ROSA (8-3 4 KO’s, Orlando, FL), the co-main event between WENDY “HAITIAN FIRE” TOUSSAINT (14-2 6 KO’s, Huntington, NY) and JERMONE “QUADRUPLE J” JONES JR. (7-1 6 KO’s, Phoenix, AZ) will now also challenge for the WBA Continental USA Championship in the super welterweight division.

Toussaint-Jones is a real scrappy fight on paper. Toussaint is a kind person by nature, but once the gloves are laced, a different beast rears its head. Most will remember the gory scene from Toussaint’s last bout against Ardreal Holmes Jr. this past June on DAZN. A clash of heads caused a four-inch-long gash as blood gushed from Toussaint’s forehead. Most people would have recoiled to the confines of the corner and safety of the doctor; however, Toussaint is not most people. Toussaint convinced the doctor to allow the fight to continue, and exploded from the corner with a fifteen second barrage. Eventually the cut was determined to be so deep and severe that the referee stopped the fight due to the cut and contrary to Toussaint’s wishes, forced the fight to go to the scorecards with a technical decision, in a fight where Toussaint won over even Holmes’ hometown fans.

Entering Saturday night, Toussaint is invigorated, knowing he can compete with anyone in the division, and believes this is the first step in showcasing that, “Opportunity knocked once, but they couldn’t steal my determination,” said Toussaint. “On October 28th, I’ll rise to claim what’s rightfully mine. After that victory, I’ll look forward to getting back in the ring as I continue my journey to reach my goal: a world championship.”

Jermone James Jones Jr., aptly dubbed “Quadruple J,” has other plans. The Arizona native carries two sledgehammers for hands, evidenced by his 87% knockout ratio. While Jones knows he is fighting in front of a sellout crowd, he is not allowing the moment to overwhelm him, “Fighting for a title is a one of my favorite parts to the fight game,” said Jermone Jones. “Being able to look back at my accolades and adding to it is something I’m looking forward to!”

Star Boxing announced a complete sell out of “Rockin’ Fights” 45 last Friday, and if you were unable to get yourself a ticket you can still watch the action live October 28, at 7:30 PM ET on www.StarBoxing.TV

Vargas is a hometown hero and newly admitted Suffolk County Police Officer with fast hands and stellar footwork. Star Boxing has been molding Vargas into its next huge draw from the Paramount, like its prior success with Chris Algieri and Joe Smith, Jr, both of whom went from Paramount regulars to world champions.  Vargas now steps into his first 10 round fight, as a result of his previous 13 victories, where he has showcased a poised and calculated yet explosive style that has made him a true fan favorite.

“I am really excited for my first ten-rounder in another step-up fight,” said Vargas. “I can’t wait to get back to work and go 14-0 in front of another sold out crowd at The Paramount on October 28!”

Opposite Vargas stands the difficult task in veteran Matt Conway, a product of Pittsburgh’s gritty streets. Conway has made a name for himself in the Pittsburgh area, and across the USA, including under the bright lights of Las Vegas, against then undefeated Gabriel Flores. This will be Conway’s first fight in New York. As a twenty-six-fight veteran with an impressive record, Conway will be the toughest test and by far the most experienced fighter Vargas has ever faced.

“I’m feeling great, and I’m excited for this opportunity,” said Conway. “I’ve been training hard, and I know my opponent is training hard as well. I am looking forward to putting on an exciting show for the fans!”

The stage is set at The Paramount, the #1 Pollstar club venue in the world, that has witnessed some truly unforgettable “Rockin’ Fights” bouts. On October 28, in a ten-round battle of two men determined to rise the ranks to world-wide recognition, Vargas and Conway will lock horns in a fight that promises to leave spectators on the edge of their seats.

Star Boxing CEO and Hall of Fame Promoter JOE DEGUARDIA had this to say about the highly anticipated main event, “This is the kind of main event that makes the Rockin’ Fights series so special. Vargas has been developing here at the Paramount since his pro debut in 2018, and now he is on the precipice of becoming a real player at the top level of the sport. Standing in his way is a ‘steel curtain’ as the Pittsburgh veteran has his sights on victory as well.  Vargas and Conway have the heart, the skill, and the fire to deliver a fight that fans will remember, and I am looking forward to it.”

OFFICIAL “ROCKIN’ FIGHTS 44″ RESULTS

Long Island, NY (May 14, 2023) — A memorable “Rockin’ Fights” had The Paramount shaking last night as fight fans poured into the completely sold out venue. The six-fight card had thrilling action from top to bottom. In the main event, ALEX “EL TORO” VARGAS (now 13-0 5KO’s) emphatically returned to the ring in a major way. Vargas showcased excellent footwork and entertaining combinations to keep MAURO “EL RAYO” GODOY (now 37-9-1 18KO’s) off kilter for the entirety of the fight. Eventually, Vargas’ power overwhelmed Godoy, knocking him down in both the second and the fifth round. With Vargas fans chanting his name, Godoy did not come off the stool for the sixth round. Vargas, a Suffolk County Police Officer, was declared the winner by 5th round TKO (3:00).  A dominating return to the ring for “El Toro.”

Dublin, Ireland’s “THE SILENT ASSASSIN” RYAN O’ROURKE (now 10-0 3KO’s) and DASHAUN “TOO SWEET” JOHNS (now, 4-3 3KO’s) fought an entertaining battle in their scheduled 8 round welterweight bout. Out of the gate, O’Rourke was accurate in his attack, but Johns’ held tough and the two had some entertaining exchanges. In the fourth round, O’Rourke began bleeding from his nose.  Seemingly unscathed, O’Rourke continued to dictate the action, but in the sixth a cut opened over the left eye of O’Rourke.  The Irishmen was unaffected by the cut and landed a perfectly placed shot that dropped Johns with 20 seconds left in the 7th round. Johns would get to his feet, but O’Rourke continued the sizzling pace. The round came to a close, but it was determined that Johns couldn’t continue and referee Pat Sullivan stopped the action earning O’Rourke a 7th round TKO (3:00), improving to 10-0 with 3KO’s.

Former Star Boxing intern turned undefeated pro boxer, HARLEY “HEAVY HANDS” BURKE (now 8-0 7KO’s) impressed during his scheduled 6 round light heavyweight Star Boxing promotional debut, defeating KAM HUMPHREY (now 3-2 2KO’s) via a 4th round TKO (0:01). Humphrey started strong, but halfway through the second, Burke began to turn the tide, landing combinations and sitting on his punches. At the close of the third round, Burke tore into Humphrey trapping him in the corner and unleashing a barrage of punches. Humphrey was able to finish the round on his feet in spite of the blitzing attack. At the start of the 4th round, Humphrey was checked by the Doctor who advised the referee to call the fight. Burke improved to 8-0 (7KO’s)

In a 4 round super featherweight bout, ERICK “EL CANETE” PEREZ (now 1-0) had an all out slugfest with DOM BREEN (now 0-2) in an electric performance that had the sold out crowd at The Paramount in a frenzy. Perez was relentless in his pressure, bombarding Breen, who, to his credit, was able to land some flush counter punches in return. Just when fans thought the action couldn’t get better, the second round topped the first. Perez and Breen continued their thrilling slugfest as the fans were cheering throughout every second of the bout enthusiastically applauding and raving about both fighters’ effort. At the end of the 2nd round, by the advice of the ringside doctor, the ref stopped the bout. Perez earned the second round TKO (3:00).

FDNY firefighter, LOUIS “IL MARTELLO” MAIETTA (now 3-3-1) got the best of LEVAN “KARO” LOUTSOUPITZE (now 0-2) in their 4 round light heavyweight rematch. Maietta was more effective, causing Loutsoupitze to clinch often to avoid Maietta. Referee Arthur Mercante Jr. deducted a point  from Loutsoupitze for excessive holding after multiple warnings. Maietta won the rematch by unanimous decision (39-36, 40-35 x2).

In the opening 4 round cruiserweight bout, NYPD Officer EMMANUEL ETIENNE (now 3-1 2KO’s) went to battle with OLUWALE “THE HOLY WAR ANGEL” BAMGBOSE (now 0-1), a former UFC fighter in his boxing pro debut. Bamgbose, came out with brazen aggression and wild bombs, switching stances and unconventionally attacking Etienne. To Etienne’s credit, he remained composed and began to time Bamgbose’s movement, using his jab and superior boxing technique. Etienne started to find success to the body and clearly took control of the fight. The Bamgbose corner stopped the fight before the start of the 4th round. Etienne earned the third round TKO victory (3:00).

Star Boxing CEO JOE DEGUARDIA had this to say about the fights, “Rockin’ Fights“ 44 portrayed the exact reason why this fight series is so special. Local talent, putting their records on the line in front of their enthusiastic, vocal and thrilled fans. Alex Vargas shined in his return to the ring, the Ryan O’Rourke and Deshaun Johns fight lived up to the hype and Harley Burke took full advantage of his opportunity. Erick Perez had the crowd captivated for every second of his fight with Dom Breen. This is what makes these shows so exciting and vital for our sport. We are proud to continue to produce high level boxing at a grass roots level. Thank you and congratulation to the fighters, my team and the Paramount for an epic night.”

“EL TORO” vs “EL RAYO” ALEX VARGAS MAKES HIS RETURN AGAINST MAURO GODOY AT “ROCKIN’ FIGHTS” 44 ON MAY 13

Long Island, New York (May 2, 2023) – Undefeated Long Island fan favorite, ALEX “EL TORO” VARGAS (12-0 4KO’s) returns to the ring with no easy task, scheduled to fight forty-six fight veteran and former multi-time Argentine Boxing Federation Champion, MAURO “EL RAYO” GODOY (37-8-1 18KO’s) over 8 rounds in the welterweight division. Vargas’ return marks the end of his 18-month layoff as he took time away from the ring to complete Suffolk County Police academy training and was later sworn in as a Suffolk County Police Officer.

Vargas made his professional debut at The Paramount in 2018 and has since fought at Star Boxing’s “Rockin’ Fights” a total of eight times, with “Rockin’ Fights” 44 marking Vargas’ ninth bout at the Pollstar #1 world rated venue in Huntington, Long Island. A skilled boxer, and former New York State Golden Gloves Champion, newly admitted ‘Officer Vargas’ brings the action and excitement to his fights and will look to pick up right where he left off in November of 2021, this time against the tough veteran Godoy.

Godoy will pose a threat to Vargas’ pristine record. He is a former Argentinian amateur standout, and a multi-time Argentine Boxing Federation Champion. Godoy has both the experience and skill necessary to topple Vargas’ homecoming. Godoy is 5-2 in his last seven bouts including a knockout victory, one of his 18, which is more than the total number of professional fights in Vargas’ career.

Vargas had this to say about his return, “I’m excited to be back after a long 18 months off. Training has been going great and I can’t wait for May 13th to represent the SCPD [Suffolk County Police Department] and put on a show for all of my supporters and all of the people in attendance at The Paramount!”

“All of us at Star Boxing are proud of Alex for his accomplishment of becoming a Suffolk County Police Officer,” said Star Boxing CEO JOE DEGUARDIA. “We are excited to have Alex return to boxing in a big way on May 13 against a tough test in Mauro Godoy. We are looking forward to another sold out “Rockin’ Fights!”

STAR BOXING YEAR IN REVIEW

New York (January 2, 2021) – One year ago, a collective sigh of relief could be heard across the globe as the year changed from 2020 to 2021. At the change of a number, hope began to amass amongst the public that a COVID riddled world would finally be put behind us, and normalcy would be restored. While safety measures were put in place, and fight bubbles continued to serve its purpose, the world finally got back to boxing.

The year was scheduled to start off with a bang, as the “Common Man,” Long Island light heavyweight hero, JOE SMITH JR. (27-3 21KO’s) prepared for his second crack at world title glory, against crafty Russian veteran MAXIM VLASOV in mid-February at the MGM in Las Vegas on ESPN. Unfortunately, a stern reminder of the realties of COVID postponed the fight when Vlasov tested positive just two days before the world title fight. Like the resilient working man that he is, Smith Jr. would not be deterred. A change of date and venue saw the fight moved to Tulsa Oklahoma (April 10), but the goal and result remained the same. In a thrilling 12-round fight, Smith Jr. strapped his boots a bit tighter, bit down hard in the championship rounds, and gutted out the victory by majority decision to win the WBO World Light Heavyweight World Championship.
Joe Smith Jr. will start off Star Boxing’s 2022 in his first world title defense against fellow light heavyweight banger, by way of the United Kingdom, CALLUM JOHNSON (20-1 14KO’s) on January 15 at Turning Stone Resort Casino, LIVE on ESPN.

Through the uncertainty, Hall of Fame promoter Joe DeGuardia remained steadfast, finding high level opportunities for the vast and talented Star Boxing stable after the Joe Smith Jr. World Championship victory, Upset minded heavyweight CARLOS TAKAM (39-6-1 28KO’s) would board a flight in late July and cross the Atlantic Ocean into enemy territory to take on #1 heavyweight contender JOE JOYCE in London. Takam brought the fight to Joyce over the first five-rounds, landing an overhand right that seemed to never miss its target. The uneasy tension of the UK crowd could be felt as Takam barreled on, winning on all judge’s scorecards. In the sixth-round, Joyce landed a stiff combination unsteadying the former Cameroon Olympian, who maintained a defense during the onslaught, deflecting much of the Joyce attack. Controversary ensured as the referee jumped in, stopping the fight, much to the distain of Takam who immediately protested. As a result of the stoppage, Joyce got the TKO-6 victory, but Takam once again validated his reputation in the boxing world.
Star Boxing’s critically acclaimed “Rockin’ Fights” series came back from a 19-month COVID hiatus to a triumphant return to The Paramount in Huntington New York for two shows in 2021. Rockin’ Fights 39 took place on September 4th and Rockin’ Fights 40 followed on November 11th.

At November’s Rockin’ Fights 40, recently signed Current IBO World Super Featherweight Champion, Italian, MICHAEL “LONE WOLF” MAGNESI (20-0 12KO’s) got right to work making his US debut against EUGENE LAGOS in the main event of “Rockin’ Fights 40”, resiliently getting off of the deck in the first round to clobber Lagos with a perfect right hand to the body, then to the head, reminding fans of former World Champ Arturo Gatti. Magnesi awed the crowd in an inspiring third-round TKO victory, planting his Italian flag in the US as a real force at 130 lbs.

Undefeated super lightweight and Paramount grown ALEX “EL TORO” VARGAS (12-0 4KO’s) appeared on both of Star Boxing’s 2021 Paramount shows, showcasing his talents in front of his hometown fanbase, picking up two unanimous decision victories.
2021 also saw Author, ringside analyst and former WBO World Champion, CHRIS ALGIERI (25-4 9KO’s) return to the ring for the first time after two years of pandemic hiatus in August to co-feature on the TrillerVerz card at the Hulu Theatre at MSG. Algieri took Brooklynite MIKEL LESSPIERRE to school over ten-rounds earning a wide-spread unanimous decision. Parlaying this domination, Algieri took his chances in Liverpool England (December 11) against undefeated rising welterweight prospect, CONOR BENN. After a tense three rounds, with Algieri up against the ropes, Benn connected with a crisp and brutal one two combination in the fourth immediately ending the fight.

The fourth quarter of 2021 proved extremely busy as Star Boxing’s talent was once again on display on Triller. Star Boxing rolled into the Barclays Center in Brooklyn with both the main event and co-feature of another boxing/music combined event. The main event featured the return of knockout artist and NABA Super Lightweight Champion, CLETUS “THE HEBREW HAMMER” SELDIN (26-1 22KO’s) against stablemate WILLIAM SILVA (28-4 16KO’s). The North American title fight lived up to the hype as Seldin and Silva went to battle over six fan friendly rounds that had fans on the edge of their seats. Early in the seventh Seldin landed his quintessential missile overhand right that sent Silva to the canvas where he would remain for several minutes, before thankfully getting to his feet. The seventh round KO victory put Seldin back on the map at 140 lbs. and is now currently world rated #8 by the WBA and #14 by the IBF.

In the co-feature bout, Queens native DANNY “EL GALLO” GONZALEZ (20-3-1 7KO’s) would take on PETROS ANANYAN for the vacant WBA Continental America’s Title over ten-rounds. After a slow start Gonzalez came on heavy in the back half of the fight, overcoming a gash on his forehead that left the ring, Danny himself, and everyone involved a bloody mess. The bloody battle was riveting and sensational. The gash would cause Gonzalez to need 25 stitches in his face post fight. Gonzalez fell just short in the fight by a razor thin close majority decision but earned the respect of boxing fans everywhere for his performance.

WBC Continental America’s Cruiserweight Champion, SIMONE “TYSON” FEDERICI (18-2-1 8KO’s) improved with a points decision in his native Italy in March and was set to defend his title against Massachusetts product, Vincenzo Carita, until Carita broke a rib in training and the fight was postponed. Be on the lookout for this fight in early 2022.

Star Boxing was pleased to add alongside its 2021 signings of Vargas and Magnesi, Iraqi born Kurd, BADIEN “BAD MAN” HASSO (19-0 10KO’s) who will be campaigning at Middleweight.

2021 also saw many of Star Boxing’s prospects and contenders continue their rise up the ratings. After picking up a TKO victory in Kentucky earlier in the year, undefeated Ukrainian Super Bantamweight OLEH “UKRAINIAN PITBULL” DOVHUN (13-0 5KO’s) defeated Glenn Dezurn in Pittsburgh this past November, to win the NABA Super Bantamweight Title. With the victory Dovhun is now rated #6 in the world by the WBA.

In May, fellow Pittsburgh based Ukrainian, LYUBOMYR “THE DEMOLITION MAN” PINCHUK (13-2-1 8KO’s) returned to his natural cruiserweight division and dominated Andrew Satterfield for a first round TKO victory.

Undefeated French Super Welterweight DAVID PAPOT defeated Evgeny Terentiev for the IBA World Title, and at the close of the year, is world rated #6 by the WBO, and #10 by the WBA.

?Belgium based Bridgerweight, JOEL DJEKO jumped to heavyweight and took his shot at French Olympian TONY YOKA in Yoka’s backyard. Djeko made a great account for himself, getting late into the 12th, but Yoka proved to be too much coming away with the victory. Djeko will be campaigning in the WBC’s Bridgerweight division and is world rated #4 by the WBC’s new weight class.

Undefeated Light Heavyweight prospect RICHIE “POPEYE THE SAILOR MAN” RIVERA (21-0 16KO’s) picked up three wins in 2021, traveling to Orlando, Massachusetts, and Colombia in the process.

?Highly touted Irish prospects, “SUPERFLY” TONY BROWNE hit the road 6 times in 2021, finishing the year with a record of 5-1 1KO, and “THE SILENT ASSASIN” RYAN O’ROURKE continued his unbeaten streak with another three victories, improving to 8-0 1KO.

Undefeated Moldovan born, Irish based prospect VICTOR “SLICK VIC” RABEI improved to 11-0 4KO’s before being sidelined by injury and will look to bounce back in 2022.

Danbury super lightweight, OMAR “THE BEAST” BORDOY(11-1 3KO’s) added a victory to his record with a wide unanimous decision in Derry New Hampshire.
?
23-year-old Dominican banger SANDERSON DIAZ (14-0 11KO’s) notched two additional second-round KO’s to his record in 2021, and looks to make landfall in the US in 2022.

Star Boxing CEO JOE DEGUARDIA stated: “Certainly 2021 has been challenging with continued uncertainties. With that said, I am proud of our team (staff and fighters) who bit down, rolled with the punches, and really came roaring to the finish. I’m happy we were able to get our boxers significant opportunities that have put them in position to have a very successful 2022, and thrilled by the WBO World Championship earned by Joe Smith Jr. The business of boxing is much like boxing itself, and 2021 was certainly a year full of bobbing and weaving, being hit and hitting back. But, at its close, all of us at Star Boxing are proud of our team and excited for what’s to come. On behalf of all of us, I wish you a happy and healthy new year, and we hope to see you in two weeks on January 15th for Joe Smith Jr.’s world title defense against fellow light heavyweight banger, Callum Smith at Turning Stone live on ESPN!”

MAGNESI SHINES IN US DEBUT WITH TKO VICTORY

Long Island, New York (November 12, 2021)

Boxing fans filled The Paramount once more for the 40th edition of New York’s prestigious club series, Rockin’ Fights. The six-fight card lived up to the hype topped by a phenomenal main event between undefeated Italian IBO Super Featherweight World Champion, MICHAEL “LONE WOLF” MAGNESI (now 20-0 12KO’s) and EUGENE “RAMBO” LAGOS (now 16-6-3 11KO’s).

From the get-go of the scheduled 10-round main event, Magnesi and Lagos traded like heavyweights in super featherweight’s bodies. Overly eager in the first round of his US debut, Lagos took advantage planting Magnesi on the canvas. Feeling the momentum, Lagos would go for broke, but Magnesi would subdue the attack and came roaring back to close out the round. Magnesi came off the stool in the second like a freight train, and both fighters exchanged massive blows inside of phone booth, neither conceding ground. Midway through the third round, Magnesi landed a combination with a right hand to the body and then the head, followed by a straight left hand that launched Lagos back into the ropes and onto the canvas. With blood in the water, just twenty seconds later, Magnesi continued the pressure causing referee Al LoBianco to stop the action at the 1:56 mark of the third round. Magnesi is co-promoted by Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing and DiBella Entertainment.

On the undercard, Long Island fan favorite and rising super lightweight prospect, ALEX “EL TORO” VARGAS (now 12-0 4KO’s) returned to the Paramount for the second time in as many months and went to battle with tough Argentinian, SEBASTIAN CHAVES (now 5-3 2KO’s). The 6-round super lightweight contest turned into a rough and tumble brawl quickly, as Chaves unsuccessfully tried to negate Vargas’ athleticism by smothering him. Vargas was cut over the eye due to a headbutt from the southpaw Chaves, but maintained composure and was was able to display his superior boxing skills, earning the unanimous decision (60-54, 59-55 2x)

2016 Irish Olympian “MIGHTY” JOE WARD (now 5-1 2KO’s) brought the beatdown on Brazilian LEANDRO “BUSCAPE” SILVA (now 3-5 2KO’s) from pillar to post over their 6-round light heavyweight bout. To Silva’s credit he remained in the fight and showed an iron chin, as Ward had his way for almost the entirety of the bout, letting his hands go at will. Ward would win the shutout unanimous decision. (60-54 3x)

In a 4-round light heavywight rematch, LOU “IL MARTELLO” MAIETTA (now 1-0-1) had the final say, defeating PEREZ AUGHTRY (now 0-3-1) by majority decision in a fan friendly fight. (40-36 Maietta, 39-37 Maietta, 38-38 Draw). Lebanese super middleweight NADIM SALLOUM (Now 6-1 3KO’s) took the fight right to Tuscaloosa, Alabama’s DELVECCHIO SAVAGE (now 3-8-1 3KO’s) sweeping up all six rounds en route to a unanimous decision victory (60-54 3x). In the opening bout, Italian Canadian AMANDA GALLE (now 5-0) defeated JAICA PAVILUS (now 1-4-1 1KO) over a 6-round super bantamweight by unanimous decision (59-55 3x).

“Another fan friendly Rockin’ Fights in the books,” said Star Boxing CEO JOE DEGUARDIA. “From the opening fight of the night to the main event, fight fans truly got to experience what Rockin’ Fights is all about. Michael Magnesi put on a hell of a show, and announced himself to the boxing world as a force to be reckoned with at 130 lbs. We look forward to being back at the Paramount in the new year, continuing the tradition of all action fights on Long Island!”

This entertaining rematch will be over four rounds in the light heavyweight division.

Undefeated Italian Canadian AMANDA “BAMBOLA” GALLE (4-0) will square off against Haitian JAICA PAVILUS (Manhattan, NY, 1-3-1, 1KO) over a six-round super bantamweight contest. STAR BOXING INKS DEAL WITH UNDEFEATED LONG ISLAND SUPER LIGHTWEIGHT ALEX “EL TORO” VARGAS

NEW YORK, NEW YORK (June 15, 2021)

Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing is pleased to announce that it has comes to terms on a promotional agreement with Bellport, Long Island’s, undefeated super lightweight, ALEX “EL TORO” VARGAS (10-0 4KO’s). Alex has been one of the latest “Rockin’ Fights” series fan favorites, bringing flag waving, t-shirt wearing followers while appearing six times at the famous venue. A boxer who can ‘stick and move’ on command, Alex, who has superior footwork and hand speed, is not afraid to brawl and often has his growing fan base cheering wildly during his spirited action-packed fights.

Alex made a name for himself in the amateur circuit, claiming two Junior Olympic Titles, two NY Metro Titles, but most impressively, Alex won the 2013 NY Golden Gloves Championship (162 lbs.) at the Barclay’s Center, being named the Mark Breland Fighter of the Tournament. With much success in the ring, Alex put down the gloves and picked up a textbook for nearly four and a half years.

After attending Suffolk Community College, Alex attended SUNY Cortland earning his bachelor’s degree in teaching English as a second language. From there, Alex would earn a bilingual certificate from the Institute of International Language in Colombia, South America. Upon returning to the US, Alex picked up the gloves and got right back to work almost seamlessly, finishing as a 2018 NY Golden Gloves finalist (152 lbs.)

After a victory in his pro debut in September of 2018, at “Rockin’ Fights” 32, Alex has not looked back, ripping off ten consecutive wins. Alex credits his team, trainer/father Michael Vargas, trainer Andre Rozier, and strength and conditioning coach, Anthony Tuminello of Pro-Fit (Deer Park) for keeping him in shape and busy during the pandemic, managing to secure four victories during COVID. Sparring with the likes of Chris Colbert, Star Boxing stablemate Chris Algieri, and Richard Commey has allowed Alex to stay ready for any and every opportunity.

The anticipated sell-out crowd will once more be filled with a sea of “El Toro” t-shirts and rowdy fans cheering on Alex, as he is set to return to The Paramount for the seventh time on September 4, at “Rockin’ Fights” 39.

“I’m happy to have finally worked out a deal with Star Boxing,” said Alex Vargas. “It made the most sense seeing what Star Boxing has done with Joe Smith Jr. and Chris Algieri, being two Long Island guys who came up the same way I am. Star Boxing has produced 2 out of the 4 world champions from Long Island and I’m hoping to be the next. I am excited to be back in the ring at The Paramount. I can’t wait to go out there and put on a show in front of all of my fans and hear them chanting for the first time since February of 2020.”

Trainer and father of Alex, MIKE VARGAS had this to say about the signing, “We’re happy to finally agree on a contract with Star Boxing. I can’t wait to have my son fight on Long Island again. I’m sure his fans are going to be louder than ever. Thank you to Joe DeGuardia and Star Boxing for all their effort. See you in September when ‘El Toro’ makes his return!”

“Alex has grown a great following through the “Rockin’ Fights” series at The Paramount, and we are happy to ink this deal with him and his team,” said Star Boxing CEO JOE DEGUARDIA. “Alex is a hardworking and talented fighter who is well schooled both in and out of the ring. We hope to continue to grow his fan-base with the “Rockin’ Fights” series and put him on the same path that was so successful with guys like Joe Smith Jr. and Chris Algieri, our other world champions, who developed at the Paramount. September 4 is going to be a great night as Star Boxing brings boxing back to New York!”

New York, November 14, 2019

Unlike the glory years of boxing, these days it is not often that two young stars, with perfect records and future aspirations of world title contention, take the risk to fight one another so early in their respective careers. This statement is a testament to the desire of greatness for both ALEX “EL TORO” VARGAS (Bellport, NY 4-0 1KO) and DASHAUN “TOOSWEET” JOHNS (Bronx, NY 2-0 1KO). Vargas and Johns will battle to keep their undefeated records when they fight on Star Boxing’s show on November 23rd. Both Vargas and Johns are active in their communities and represent themselves with extreme character and authenticity. Both were decorated amateur fighters, Vargas a 2013 New York Golden Gloves Champion and Johns a Title National Champion. Both also have huge fan bases that will be competing on the noise meter at the Paramount. However, make no mistake, on November 23, chivalry will have no place in the ring; New York bragging rights as well as a perfect record are on the line. Both fighters have made it very clear that they know what is at stake as “someone’s 0 must go!”.

“I’m really excited for this and I’m ready for it” said Vargas. “Two undefeated fighters both from New York has a lot of bragging rights.” Alex Vargas has proven the ability to rise to the moment over his first four fights at The Paramount. His loud and colorful fan base continues to grow, and creates an entertaining atmosphere, fight after fight. As for what those fans can expect come November 23, “they can expect a very exciting, but smart fought fight. I won’t be the one taking my first loss.”

Vargas’ comments did not go unheard by Dashaun Johns. “Come fight night, he better keep that same energy,” said Johns. Returning to The Paramount for the third time, Johns is prepared to put on a show for his fans and knows a fight of this caliber, at this point in his career, could be a defining moment. “Champions are created inside and out of the gym,” said Johns. “To be the best you have to fight the best. This is my legacy! The time is now.”

“Rockin’ Fights” 37 is promoted by Star Boxing on a thrilling night of fights from The Paramount in Huntington, Long Island, featuring a WBC title doubleheader.
JOE DEGUARDIA, President of Star Boxing stated “This is what makes the Paramount so special. It is a throwback to the glory days of boxing, where fighters can develop in an atmosphere that prepares them for mega-fights since they become accustomed to pressure-cooker situations early in their career. Two warriors, under the lights in a packed house, fighting to keep their undefeated records. This is like a world championship fight for them and provides the experience needed for future success. They are both winners and will benefit from this experience, and I applaud them both for having the desire to succeed”.

FEB 22. ROCKIN’ FIGHTS 34 OFFICIAL RESULTS

New York, February 24, 2019

Star Boxing’s “Rockin’ Fights” series had its 34th event Friday night at the Paramount in Long Island, New York. The night included six compelling bouts that included the return of Huntington’s own JOHNNY “HITMAN” HERNANDEZ who went to battle with Texas native MARQUIS “THE HAWK” HAWTHORNE. In the international co-main event, JOEL “BIG JOE” DJEKO and SIMONE “TYSON” FEDERICI settled their differences in the squared circle. On the undercard, TERELL “THE PROBLEM CHILD” BOSTIC. DASHAUN “TOOSWEET” JOHNS. ALEX “EL TORO” VARGAS and JEFFREY GONZALEZ took care of business in worthy fashion.

JOHNNY “HITMAN” HERNANDEZ (now 10-4 1KO) and MARQUIS “THE HAWK” HAWTHORNE found themselves in a tactical battle over the scheduled 8-round bout. From the first round on, both fighters continued to make in ring adjustments, seemingly trading rounds between in a good scrap. Hernandez found success using his speed and footwork to score on Hawthorne, however as the fight went on, Hawthorne (6-10 1KO), used his length to subdue Hernandez’s attack, in an effort to get to him first. At the finish of the competitive 8-round, contest, the judges’ scorecards read, 76-76, 77-75 (x2) as Hernandez outpointed the game Hawthorne by close majority decision.

Cruiserweights, JOEL “BIG JOE” DJEKO (now 15-2-1 7KO’s) and SIMONE “TYSON” FEDERICI (now 14-2-1 6KO’s) finally had the chance to glove up, and settle their differences in the ring, after Djeko pushed Federici at Thursday’s weigh-in. Federici came out of the gate strong, working effectively on the inside, landing a strong, short, combination that unsteadied the big Belgium. Djeko later returned the favor, with a vicious body attack on the Italian. The two continued to trade over the full 10-rounds in a fight that seemed very close. Upon the final bell the Italian jumped on the ring ropes assuming he won with his aggression. Ultimately the scorecards were read and the judges scored in favor of Djeko unanimously (97-93 (x2), 99-91). The fans in attendance voiced displeasure with the decision, but the commentators on Facebook seemingly thought Djeko had edged out the victory.

TERELL “THE PROBLEM CHILD” BOSTIC (now 4-1 1KO) of Wyandanch, Long Island took on JAVIER MARTINEZ (now 4-6 3KO’s) of Laredo, Texas. Bostic returned last night to The Paramount in search of vengeance for his first professional loss, by close split decision, at the last “Rockin’ Fights”. The two super lightweights waged war for the scheduled 6-round bout, as Bostic picked his spots, landing to both the body and the head of Martinez. Martinez however was not backing down, as he spent most of the bout coming forward in attempt to create openings. In the end, Bostic earned the unanimous decision victory by scores of 60-54 (x2) and 59-55.

DASHAUN “TOOSWEEET” JOHNS (now 2-0 1KO) showed extreme fortitude in his bout against DERON “KING” LAWSON. Lawson came on strong in the first round, getting the best of Johns, causing the Bronx native to be on unsteady legs for most of the three minutes. However, to Johns credit, he resisted the onslaught, and managed to finish out the round. A clear game plan change from John’s corner heading into the second round paid major dividends, managing to out box Lawson (now 0-3) for the remainder of the four rounds to a win a tough unanimous decision. All three judges scored the fight the same, 39-37.

ALEX “EL TORO” VARGAS (now 3-0 1KO), made his third straight appearance at The Paramount, against Ghana native, BENJAMIN BORTEYE (now 4-5 4KO’s) and did not waste any time. Vargas effectively cut off the ring, pinning Borteye in the corner, and landed a straight right, dropping Borteye early in the first round. Vargas continued the onslaught, dropping Borteye a second time in the second round. Vargas earned a TKO victory 3 seconds into the third, remaining undefeated in his young professional career, as well as at The Paramount.

In the opening bout of the evening, JEFFREY GONZALEZ (Pro-Debut) took on EARL HENRY (0-0-1) of Florida in a scheduled 4-round super middleweight bout. The crowd was filled with oh’s and ah’s as both fighters traded freely and fiercely at the center of the ring landing at will. After the full four rounds, Gonzalez notched his first professional win by scores of 40-36 (x3).

Star Boxing head, JOE DEGUARDIA had this to say about Friday’s entire “Rockin’ Fights” event, “It was another fun night at the Paramount and the fighters once again gave fans a thrilling action-packed night. We look forward to our next stop-March 9th when Joe Smith Jr., another Paramount favorite, gets his World Championship title fight vs Dmitry Bivol at Turning Stone Casino.”
