JAMAINE “THE TECHNICIAN” ORTIZ TRAINING CAMP NOTES

ORLANDO, FL (August 20, 2025) – Super lightweight contender Jamaine “The Technician” Ortiz (19-2-1, 9 KOs) has completed training camp and is set to face late replacement Ambiorix Bautista (19-2, 11 KOs) of the Dominican Republic in a 10-round showdown. The bout, which remains for the WBA Continental USA Championship, will air live on DAZN as part of MVP’s Fight Night card on Saturday, August 23, at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida. Tickets are available now at www.ticketmaster.com.

Here is what Jamaine Ortiz, who is co-promoted by Boxlab Promotions and CES Boxing, had to say about his matchup with Bautista, his recent training camp, being ranked in the top 10 by all sanctioning organizations, and more.

Ortiz knows a late replacement changes the dynamics, but he insists it doesn’t change his mission. “Bautista stepping in last minute doesn’t throw me off — it fuels me. He’s hungry, he’s dangerous, and he’s coming with nothing to lose. That makes him a real threat. But I’ve been locked in all camp, and it doesn’t matter who’s across from me — I’m here to dominate, adjust, and show why I’m one of the best in the division.”

Ortiz credits his grueling camp with sharpening his mindset and making him more dangerous than ever. “This camp was all about discipline and sacrifice. I pushed myself harder than I ever have — long rounds, endless conditioning, breaking myself down to build myself stronger. There were days my body wanted to quit, but my heart wouldn’t let me. That’s the fighter I’m bringing into the ring on August 23.”

With a belt on the line, Ortiz sees this fight as a pivotal moment in his career trajectory. “Winning this title is very important because it’s the door opener. Owning the WBA Continental USA strap puts my name right in the conversation with the top guys at 140. I’m ready to challenge all the champions in my division.”

Ortiz is ready to seize the moment under the bright lights of DAZN and MVP’s platform. “Being part of MVP Fight Night on DAZN is the type of stage every fighter wants — a global spotlight. The fans will be watching, and I want them to remember my name when the night’s over. A win here keeps me climbing toward world title opportunities, and I promise you, I’m not leaving Orlando without making noise in this division.”

Boxlab Promotions President Amaury Piedra is confident Ortiz will rise to the occasion. “Jamaine Ortiz is one of those fighters who brings intensity and skill every time he steps in the ring. This opportunity against Bautista is huge, and I know Jamaine is going to deliver. We’re behind him every step of the way, and I’m excited to see what transpires — because I truly believe Ortiz has the talent to make a major impact at 140 pounds, and become a world champion.”

Ortiz and Bautista Collide for WBA Continental USA Title

This Saturday at the Caribe Royale Hotel in Orlando, Florida, Jermaine Ortiz will square off against Ambiorix Bautista for the WBA Continental USA super lightweight championship, in one of the featured undercard bouts of a stacked event headlined by Yankiel Rivera vs. Angelino Córdova for the WBA interim flyweight crown.

For Ortiz, this is another chance to shine on a big stage. The 29-year-old from Massachusetts comes in riding a two-fight winning streak and brings with him a strong résumé, with his only setbacks coming against elite names like Teófimo López and Vasyl Lomachenko. A victory here would add another regional strap to his collection and further solidify his place among the top contenders at 140 pounds.

Bautista, 33, represents the Dominican Republic and will be stepping onto foreign soil for the first time in his career. Though relatively untested at the highest levels, he arrives with momentum and plenty of belief, knowing this opportunity could be career-changing. The Caribbean fighter hasn’t lost since 2016 and will be looking to carry that confidence into the biggest fight of his life.

Ortiz holds a record of 19 wins, 2 losses, 1 draw, with 9 knockouts, while Bautista comes in at 19 victories, 2 defeats, and 11 knockouts.

ORLANDO, FL – Jamaine “The Technician” Ortiz (19-2-1, 9 KOs) returns to the ring on Saturday, August 23, when he faces Dominican contender Ambiorix Bautista (19-2, 11 KOs) at the Caribe Royale in Orlando and live worldwide on DAZN. The bout is promoted by Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) in association with CES Boxing and BoxLab Promotions.
Ortiz, ranked inside the top 15 by all four major sanctioning bodies, is on the brink of a world title opportunity. A win this Saturday puts him in title contention against one of the division’s champions, including Teofimo Lopez (WBO), Richardson Hitchens (IBF), Subriel Matias (WBC), or Gary Antuanne Russell (WBA).
“Camp has been great,”said Ortiz. “Bautista is a tough fighter who comes to win, but I’m ready for whatever he brings. This fight is about making a statement and reminding the champions that I’m coming.”
Bautista, with 19 wins and 11 knockouts to his credit, represents another dangerous opponent in Ortiz’s recent run of challenges. The Dominican is on a 16-fight win streak, 10 by knockout, since suffering back-to-back decision losses almost 10 years ago. With his sights set on the top of the junior welterweight division, Ortiz is eager to continue building momentum toward a world title opportunity.
“My goal is to fight the very best,” Ortiz said. “I would love a rematch with Teofimo Lopez, but if that doesn’t happen, I’ll fight any of the champions. I’m past due for a world title.”
