VIDEO: Anthony Joshua Vs Daniel Dubois & Undercard Final Press Conference

ANTHONY JOSHUA VS. DANIEL DUBOIS FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

Eddie Hearn, Matchroom Sport Chairman:

“Good evening everyone and firstly thank you of course to his Crown Prince and His Excellency Turki Alalshikh for the vision really. I think everybody felt that Riyadh Season would be in Riyadh, and it’s been just under a year now since we began boxing in Riyadh Season and the change that we’ve seen in the sport already has been quite phenomenal.

“We didn’t expect to see events in Los Angeles and to see events in London. This one is very special. It’s the record, it’s 96,000 I think at a time that British boxing needs a shot in the arm. It’s a shot in the arm that’s been provided time and time again by this man to my right.

“I know he’s not a fan of plaudits but you have to give them to him because we’re all very proud of the way he has carried himself since the Olympic gold medal. Every fighter in the country today has benefited off the rise and the performances and most importantly the behaviour of Anthony Joshua. He’s been a role model, he’s inspired boxing frpm top to the bottom level of the grass roots of the game.

“Personally on Saturday I can’t wait. I think His Excellency is going to look around and see one of the greatest nights British boxing has ever seen. Two dangerous British Heavyweights fighting for a World Title.

“Saturday will be special. A three-time Heavyweight Champion, something Muhammad Ali and Lennox Lewis achieved. Joshua is focusing on the performance but legacy awaits. I’ve never seen him so calculated and so confident.”Frank Warren, Queensberry Promotions Chairman:

“We are going to see something special. For me, there’s nothing better than two Brits in a competitive fight.

“I believe Daniel will show what he is about. I’ve believed in him from day one. He’s come through trials and tribulations and is going to keep that belt.

“He will prove he is the IBF champion.

“We’ve got a new kid on the block. This kid can fight, he can punch. He’s got mobility, he’s fast and he’s a good finisher.

“Dubois is a bigger puncher than AJ and one thing is for sure – don’t blink in this fight.

“I believe this Heavyweight fight will be Britain’s Hagler-Hearns – that’s how exciting it’s going to be.”Anthony Joshua:

Asked about how he is feeling..

“It’s a blessing to be back again and to prove to my team and everyone that I’ve done the right things in camp.

“It’s good to be back. I’m ready to rumble and remind everyone what I’m capable of.”

On facing Dubois..

“We’ll find out [what Dubois has to offer]

“I can’t say. I’m not Daniel. All I can do is focus on myself.”

“I showed Daniel and his team the respect they deserve through fight camp and that will stand me in good stead on Saturday.

“I’m tough and so is he.

“May the best man win. Good luck to Daniel and his team.

“One thing I said when I started boxing was that I wanted to bring British Heavyweight boxing back and I think I’ve done that.”On sparring rumours..

“He cracked me with a great shot and it’s my chance to get him back on Saturday. I’m looking forward to it. We’ve sparred hundreds of rounds.”

Asked how he wins the fight..

“I could win in a variety of ways. I’m not depending on punch power. It takes a lot more than that to be a great fighter. I’ve got the fighting spirit and that’s how I’ll break him down, with my spirit.”

Asked about the chance to be a three-time World Champion..

“The accolades come later. I’ll be back home on Sunday eating the same breakfast, putting laundry in the basket and going to the same local gym.

“I’m a competitive person and I’ve got competition to deal with on Saturday.”

On the face off incident during the launch press conference..

“You should never let anyone take an inch because they’ll end up taking a mile, you know what I mean Dan?”

On how he will feel when making the ringwalk..

“Many greats have walked it before, the undercard will walk it and I’ll feel like everyone else.

“When I step into the ring, that’s when I switch on and I’m ready. I’m not interested in the ringwalk, that’s just getting to the location to do my job.

“Once I’m in the ring I’ll be ready. 110%.”Daniel Dubois:

Asked about rumours of an issue with his coach Don Charles who has been absent during fight week..

“As long as he’s in my corner on fight night then I’ll be alright. Everything is good.

“Everything’s gone well, training camp’s gone brilliant. Let’s go!”

Asked about why he wanted to face Joshua..

“It’s a resurrection story of my career. I want the big challenges, to make a name for myself and to make history.”

“I need to retain this World Title. It’s a great thing to have but I need to legitimise myself by winning this fight.”

On sparring rumours..

“It was sparring. Now we’re fighting, this is different.

“Move on.

“I’m ready to go and ready to fight.”Pressed on how he wins the fight..

“I’m not predicting anything.”

On how it will feel walking out in front of 96,000 at Wembley..

“Like I’ve taken it many times before, this time it’s just a bigger stage so the energy will be higher.”

VIDEO: Anthony Joshua Vs Daniel Dubois Workout & Live Fights (Vuong, Hamed & Kongo)

ANTHONY JOSHUA VS. DANIEL DUBOIS PUBLIC WORKOUT QUOTES

Fight week ramped up a gear in London this evening as Anthony JoshuaDaniel Dubois and all of the Riyadh Season Card Wembley Edition undercard fighters went through their paces at the Public Workout held at the OVO Arena Wembley.

Former two-time unified Heavyweight World Champion Joshua and current IBF Champion Dubois clash in a huge all-British Heavyweight World Title showdown this Saturday at Wembley Stadium, shown live on DAZN

This is what the fighters had to say:

Anthony Joshua:

“Exactly. Being on the big stage. They’re the boys and girls from my boxing club so we’re in local town and I thought I’d bring them down.”

How much does it mean to you to be able to do that for them?

“Everything. It’s what it’s all about, opening doors for people, like people open doors for me as well.”

What are you making of the set up in here?

“There’s a fight here happening tonight right? Ten out of ten. Three fights happening tonight. It’s ten out of ten. I feel like I’m in the ring ready for my fight as well. It feels good. Canvas feels good. Size is good. I just need to get my wraps on and my gloves and I could fight today.”

Three days out, how are the emotions now?

“There’s no emotion. No emotions. I’m just here. I’m just here.”

What are you expecting from the rest of the fight week?

“More media, more talking. More training most importantly. And walking into the ring in front of 96,000 people ready to show people my gladiatorial spirit.”

Daniel Dubois:

What do you make of the set up today?

“It’s great. It’s good. I’m ready to fight so I’m in a good place at the moment.”

What do you use the open workout for?

“It’s all part of the pre-fight ritual. I’m going through the motions and just building up my energy for Saturday.”

How high is your confidence just three days out from fight night?

“I know I need to go to another level at my very best. I can’t wait for the challenge on Saturday. I’m ready to fight, let’s go!

There’s been talk of you looking a bit heavier than previous fights, would you say that’s correct?

“I’m not sure. Honestly, I’ve just worked hard in the gym. I’ve suffered and worked really hard for weeks and months so I’m just ready to fight now.”

Are you going to stick around to watch AJ’s workout?

“Who knows. You might catch me at ringside.”

A final word to the supporters who have come out today.

“Tune in you guys. It’s going to be a great fight on Saturday.”

Anthony Cacace:

“Listen, Joe was a great champion, and I was a massive underdog heading into that fight. I showed what I was all about. I’ve had these fights, I’ve won the British Title and IBO. Styles make fights and Joe’s style was perfect for me. Josh Warrington’s is even better.”

Has becoming a World Champion changed your mentality?

“I definitely haven’t lost my desire or my hunger. I’m a fighter. I’ve been a fighter from almost nine years of age. I’m fulfilled as in I’ve made a dream come true. I’ve secured a house for my three children and that’s the main thing. I want more. I don’t want to get this title and pass it on. I want to secure legacy for me in Belfast. I’m the only World Champion from West Belfast at the minute, and I think from Ireland. I want to do everyone proud back home.”

You haven’t had it all your own way..

“I’ve had nothing my own way. I’ve had to get into mandatory spots to fight for British Titles, every title I’ve had I’ve had to work and beg for. So now I’m the champion I don’t have to call anybody out. These fights are coming, and I know they’re all top fights. Josh Warrington is a great fighter – two-time World Champion. I don’t believe any of the crap that’s been said about him – he’s over the hill and things like that. His last two performances were good, he just fell short. That’s boxing.”

“I’m a lot bigger than him. I think that style suits me down to a tee.”

Josh Warrington:

“I’ll be honest with you Ade; this is the first time I’ve had a ring walk for a public workout. Normally it’s a shopping centre in Leeds or a market in Leeds, but it’s no different whatsoever once you’re in there. If anything, a lot of the shows I normally when I’m in Leeds, I just want to stay and entertain anyone who’s come by. They might have taken 20 minutes out of lunch to come and watch me, so I want to just stay and do some pads and things like that. But today, everyone isn’t here for me – they’re here for the full show. When I’m in Leeds, everyone is there for me but it’s the full show tonight. In and out – easy.

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you see Cacace?

“He’s got a decent beard! I’d like to see what his face looks like without a beard. I saw him 12 weeks ago and he was quite fuller in the face. Now, I can’t really tell too much, I can see he’s dropped weight a bit, but the beard is hiding it quite a bit.”

On moving up in weight..

“It’s a hell of a difference and something that I should have done years ago. It’s all in hindsight isn’t it.

“I’m not just here to take part. I’m not going to go all Conor McGregor now but, it’s not even so much for the belts. It’s for the names and my legacy. Obviously my last fight ended in a loss. No matter how good I was boxing it was still a loss. I don’t want to end it like that, and I still want to go to America. We’ve already had that conversation with Eddie. After that, I don’t know – just entertaining fights. Once I start dipping, I’ll walk away.”

Thoughts on the IBF not sanctioning the fight for the World Title

“I am disappointed. Two-time IBF Featherweight World Champion. Six IBF World Title fights for them. I understand their policies, regulations and all this stuff, but some of these organisations get involved with YouTubers. Come on. They’ve earned a lot of money out of me with sanctioning fees over the years on different shows. For whatever reasons, they just wouldn’t change the goalposts here after already giving the green light. That’s what I can’t work out.”

Josh Kelly:

How great is it to being weighing 160 pounds for this fight?

“Ah bro. When I was 147, I was taking 14 or 15 pounds off on the morning of the weigh-in. If people look at my results down there, a lot of it has been… I’ve worked a little bit; I haven’t worked a little bit… I had to preserve my energy because when you’re taking that much weight off, you’re not there on the night. You can’t do that and then fight 12 rounds. 154/160 – it’s suited us down to a tee. I’ve never lost any speed, I’ve got more power, my gas tank is full. I can go 12 rounds moving, 12 rounds fighting. I think he’s in for a hard night.

“With my style I only really need to be in a position to punch maybe four or five times a round. Light them up and I can do what I want. Or if they’re pressing me into that position where I have to work, I’m clever enough to be able to work inside, nick a shot or two. I’m stronger than people think when I’m inside. People don’t think I’m that strong but I’m able to… I’ve been sparring with Joshua Buatsi. I can’t be sparring with Joshua Buatsi if I’m not strong.

“I rate Ishmael. I rate him. He switches. I rate him but I know what I’m going to do. I feel as though I’ve been mentally ready for this for months now. He’s come in at the last minute and of course he’s going to feel full of confidence. Of course anyone would want to jump at a fight on this card at the last minute. He’s got his team around him saying we can win this; we can do this. He’s never been on these big stages yet. I know he’s going to perform. I know he’s going to come out and do his thing but when you’ve got someone like me to prepare for for six days, I’m an absolute nightmare.”

Ishmael Davies:

“Listen this is my profession, I’m always in shape all year round. Sometimes I have a little break, four days off, but I’m always in the gym.

“It just went simple and fast. I was watching the Canelo fight, so I stayed up a bit late. I went to bed; my phone was buzzing off. Sunny rang me and he was like, ‘Yo, you’ve got the Josh Kelly fight, do you want to fight?’, and I just said yeah. Straight away, I was just like, ‘come on then’. I said, ‘when?’, six days – let’s do this man. I love a challenge. If you want to prove yourself in something, what better chance do I have than this? I’m not here to make up the numbers. Do you know what it is yeah? I believe I’m going to the top of the sport, and this is a chance for me to showcase my skills on a higher level against a better opponent that’s going to make me better. Me and him both beat Troy (Williamson). I believe I battered Troy more but let’s see what happens on Saturday.

“No issue with the weight. Obviously when you’re not trying to make championship weight, you’re always coming in a little bit heavier. I am a Super-Welterweight, but on Saturday night I’m a Middleweight. In terms of sparring where I’ve learnt most of my experience – because obviously I had no amateurs – I’ve been in there with everyone. Everyone! And do you know what it is? Nobody has got a bad word to say about me. I’d be surprised if I gave anyone a bad word to say against me on Saturday.”

Joshua vs. Dubois tops a blockbuster night of action in Wembley, Birmingham’s TylerDenny (19-2-3, 1 KO) defends his EBU European Middleweight Title against Ilford’s HamzahSheeraz (20-0, 16 KOs), Belfast’s IBF Super-Featherweight World Champion Anthony Cacace (22-1, 8 KOs) meets Leeds’ former two-time Featherweight World Champion Josh Warrington (31-3-1, 8 KOs) in an electric 130 pounds match-up, Sunderland’s Josh Kelly (15-1-1, 8 KOs) takes on late replacement IshmaelDavis (13-0, 6 KOs) at Middleweight, Croydon’s Joshua Buatsi (18-0, 13 KOs) and Scotland’s WillyHutchinson (18-1, 13 KO) clash for the interim WBO Light-Heavyweight World Title and Portsmouth Lightweight Mark Chamberlain (16-0, 12 KOs) puts his undefeated record on the line against Yorkshire’s Josh Padley (14-0, 4 KOs).

ANTHONY JOSHUA VS. DANIEL DUBOIS GRAND ARRIVALS QUOTES

Former two-time unified Heavyweight World Champion Anthony Joshua and current IBF Champion Daniel Dubois made their Grand Arrivals earlier this evening at Leicester Square in the West End of London ahead of their blockbuster all-British World Title showdown at Wembley Stadium this Saturday, shown live worldwide on DAZN.

This is what the fighters and promoters had to say:

Anthony Joshua:

“It’s really a blessing. It’s a big blessing. We’re the most important thing for people right now so they’re all here coming out to have a good time with us. It makes me feel important.

“Nah not at all because I’ll never forget, I started boxing late, so I used to, well I still do, look up to a lot of people. I can put myself on the other side of the fence. I’ve been on the other side of the fence. I haven’t always been on the red carpet. I always understand now I’m on the red carpet, how to treat people. I’m never going to turn my nose up at people. That’s just not my style.

“Massive. It doesn’t feel it at the minute because I’m still in like training camp. On Saturday I’m going to be standing behind a curtain and they’re going to say, ‘Anthony – ten seconds’, and I’m going to walk out into the stadium and I’m going to feel that energy. That’s when it gets real. At the minute we’re still hours away so I’m chilled out.

“Me mentality is, if I draw a line and put fear on one side, and confidence on the other, but I’m still going into the ring – what one am I going to choose? I’m confident. I believe in myself, and I think that’s the right mentality to have.

“100% I’ve never had a red carpet in my life. This is a blessing. They’re doing big things. It’s good that we’re doing joint ventures together now. I’ve been in Saudi, it’s good to be home. It’s not small, they’ve made it massive. I’m fighting a Queensberry Promotions fighter as well so it’s a new age for boxing – a golden era if you ask me. I hope that the next generation coming through can benefit from all of this as well. It’s not just about our generation.”

Eddie Hearn, Matchroom Sport Chairman:

“I do rank as AJ’s number one fan. He’s a friend, I know how hard he’s worked over the years. We’ve had our highs and our lows, and to see him make history as a three-time Heavyweight Champion would be an incredible moment for him and we’d be very proud. We’re also aware of the challenge. I think most people believe AJ is the favourite in the fight but Daniel is a very live underdog. He’s dangerous, he punches very hard. It will be interesting to see how he can deal with the occasion and the emotion on the night. But like Frank said, anything can happen in this fight and that’s the beauty of the Heavyweight division. That’s why 96,000 people will be crammed into Wembley Stadium for an incredible undercard. We’ve also got Josh Warrington against Cacace, another Queensberry vs. Matchroom line-up. Despite the 10-0 defeat, I kind of feel like AJ vs. Dubois carries 20 points, so we must win this one on Saturday.”

Daniel Dubois:

“I’m feeling good, confident. I’m just relaxed and soaking it all up. Soaking up the energy, it’s good.

“I’m just going to feed off of that energy and build it up. I can’t wait for it. It’s my time. I’m ready for it.

“You guys are going to see that this is my time. I’m the man. I need to go out there and legitimise it. I’m the champ.

“Yes, by any means necessary. Victory – that’s it.”

Frank Warren, Queensberry Promotions Chairman:

“I’m excited. I think we’ve got a fabulous show on Saturday night. It’s going to be an all-action fight. They’re both massive punchers, it won’t go the distance but it’s going to be really exciting while it lasts. This is huge. 96,000 people, that’s all you need to know. It’s the biggest attendance ever in Europe for a fight. That says it all. That’s how it should be as well. It’s a tremendous card, Wembley special Riyadh Season – it’s an unbelievable completive fight card with great great fights all the way through. Don’t blink, every fight is going to be an absolute barnstormer – every one of them. It’s fabulous, I mean look at it – everyone has come out for it. This is what it’s all about. It’s big-time boxing, it’s boxing at the highest level. Eddie and I couldn’t put a card together like this, because of the fact that it’s being sponsored and put together in association with Riyadh Season. It makes it work. It’s been an unbelievable year for boxing.”

Anthony Cacace:

“I’m feeling great. I’m feeling great. Look around, this is unbelievable. It’s just great to be a part of this Riyadh Season again. I’m just buzzing.

“Listen, favourite means absolutely nothing. I know Josh, he’s a great fighter and I know he’s going to bring the heat, but I just believe I’m the better fighter and it’s my time.

“Well to fight a big name like Josh is great. He’s had fights with the likes of Frampton, Selby and all these big fighters in the past. I would like to get my revenge for a couple of the Irish fighters. Saturday night I plan on doing that.

“Yeah no doubt, no doubt (that his fight will be fight of the night). I know the style that Josh brings, and I know what I bring. So yeah, I do believe that it’s going to be the best fight of the night. Tune in.”

Josh Warrington:

“It’s an honour to be part of such a spectacle, such a big show. Like you say, I’ve done many many big shows up in Leeds – arenas and stadiums, but this is another level.

“All of that doesn’t matter. What it comes down to is me and the man in front of me. I’ve got experience in being in big shows but it’s just about me and Anthony and that’s all I’m focused on at the minute.

“I think throughout my career the chips have always been stacked against me for whatever reason, but when my back is against the wall it seems to bring the best out in me.

“I went into the last fight, even though I came away on the wrong side of the fight, it was a fight that I was dominating. This one, people might be overlooking me a little bit but I’m fully focused and I know I’ve got enough to get the W.
“I can’t cry over spilt milk, but I probably should have done it a few years ago (moved up in weight). These extra few pounds, it might not sound like a lot to a lot of people but I feel absolutely fantastic. It’s the best I’ve felt in a long time.

“I think so (that the fight is going to steal the show). We’ve been respectful throughout the build-up. I’ve got a lot of respect for Anto, and his team have been very good. We’re going to prove that you don’t need to trash talk or talk absolute bollocks. It’s all about letting the fists do the talking. I think we’re both going to deliver on Saturday night.”

Josh Kelly:

“I’m feeling blessed, grateful. Seeing the turnout, the UK do it properly man. I can’t wait to perform in front of these fans.

“I just switched off to be honest. As soon as the opponent thing happened, I just switched off. I have my phone to my team, switched off social media and locked in. Obviously I’m still on the card so I’m very grateful. I’m grateful for the guy taking the fight as well, so it’s all good.

“He’s a solid guy. He looks solid. I think he’s going to bring the same sort of thing that Liam was. Liam likes to come, make it rough and put pressure on. I think Ishmael is going to try the same thing, so I’m fully prepared for the night and I can’t wait. It’s showtime.”

Ishmael Davies:

“I’m feeling good man, I’m feeling ready. I belong here and I’m going to show it on Saturday. I’m always ready, and ‘BP’ don’t get tired. Listen, six days’ notice but I believe in myself, so let’s get it on.

“This is a massive opportunity for me. It’ll change not only my life but my kids’ lives, so I won’t be taking it lightly.

“Nah this is massive man. I’m grateful. This is amazing isn’t it. But listen, it’s all about the fight. This is nice, but it’s about the fight, getting the fight done and getting the win. Saturday night it’s on.”

JOSHUA AND DUBOIS FACE OFF AHEAD OF BLOCKBUSTER ALL-BRITISH HEAVYWEIGHT WORLD TITLE CLASH AT WEMBLEY STADIUM THIS SATURDAY

A monumental fight week in London got underway this evening as two-time Heavyweight World Champion Anthony Joshua and newly-crowned IBF ruler DanielDubois went head-to-head in front of the iconic Tower Bridge ahead of their huge all-British World Title showdown at Wembley Stadium this Saturday, shown live on DAZN

‘AJ’ returns to the UK after securing impressive back-to-back stoppages against Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou on the road in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the former unified Heavyweight king has a chance to become a three-time World Champion should he dethrone his compatriot Dubois in front of a sell-out crowd this weekend.

Wembley Stadium is happy hunting ground for the 34-year-old from Watford, having secured three knockout wins from three fights at the famous stadium. He made short work off Matt Legg on the undercard of the blockbuster rematch between bitter rivals Carl Froch and George Groves back in 2014, stopping Legg inside the opening round.

Joshua produced the performance of a lifetime to claim the WBA crown against modern legend Wladimir Klitschko in an unforgettable battle in front of a post war record crowd of 90,000 at England’s national stadium in April 2017, before returning to fight under the iconic arch a year later as he defended his World Titles against Alexander Povetkin.

Speaking to Matchroom Boxing, Joshua said: “It’s another day for me. We’re going to do some media stuff. Spirits are good actually. I’ve prepared for this so it’s not taking time out of my schedule. It fits in well. It’s another day, another lion in the jungle. It’s another lion ready to hunt. It’s just another day for me.

“Preparation is everything. If you prepare you’re relaxed because you’ve taken yourself there physically, you’ve taken yourself there mentally and you truly believe in yourself. I’m good.”

When asked what it would mean to him to become a three-time Heavyweight World Champion, Joshua insisted that his sole focus was on putting in another memorable performance with his new training team headed up by Ben Davison out of the BD Performance Centre in Harlow, Essex.

“I’m not looking that far ahead because that’s just the icing on the cake. I’ve said to myself, precisely, performance is the most important thing for me. Mentality is the most important thing for me. All of the other stuff will follow that.

“Three-time, I’ve done it once I’ve done it twice – nothing has really changed and I’ve had to work extremely hard to improve my performance so I’m fully focused on my performances. That’s what will bring me all the glitz and glam and glory.”

Dubois heads into his highly-anticipated showdown with Joshua coming off the back of a career-best win over Croatia’s Filip Hrgovic on the Queensberry vs. Matchroom card last June. The pair know each other well having shared rounds of sparring in Sheffield, and Joshua is confident that he will have too much experience for his younger rival.

“50% better than what I’ve seen, but I’m well-prepared physically and mentally. I think the fans will be in for an entertaining night for sure. There’s only one way and I know exactly what I’m going to do. I’m not leaving it up to ‘any way’, I know exactly what I’m going to do and I know exactly what I’ve got to do and I’ll do it.”

Matchroom Sport Chairman Eddie Hearn has been at Joshua’s side every step of the way of his extraordinary career since the London 2012 Olympic Champion joined the professional ranks with the Essex based promotional powerhouse in 2013, and the megastar was full of praise for the man who guided him to unified World Titles in boxing’s glamour division.

“Yeah it’s been massive,” said Joshua. “It’s been massive for my development in and out of the ring. In the ring it’s been sensational, even throughout the times that haven’t been so good – but what a story it is. The man knows boxing as well. To speak to him outside of actual competing and business, talking about boxing in general – it’s helped me develop. I met Eddie when I was probably, what, 20? 21? I’m now 34, going to be 35 next month, so it’s been a long journey and a fruitful one as well for both of us.”

Joshua vs. Dubois tops a blockbuster night of action in Wembley, Birmingham’s TylerDenny (19-2-3, 1 KO) defends his EBU European Middleweight Title against Ilford’s HamzahSheeraz (20-0, 16 KOs), Belfast’s IBF Super-Featherweight World Champion Anthony Cacae (22-1, 8 KOs) meets Leeds’ former two-time Featherweight World Champion Josh Warrington (31-3-1, 8 KOs) in an electric 130 pounds match-up, Sunderland’s Josh Kelly (15-1-1, 8 KOs) takes on late replacement IshmaelDavis (13-0, 6 KOs) at Middleweight, Croydon’s Joshua Buatsi (18-0, 13 KOs) and Scotland’s WillyHutchinson (18-1, 13 KO) clash for the interim WBO Light-Heavyweight World Title and Portsmouth Lightweight Mark Chamberlain (16-0, 12 KOs) puts his undefeated record on the line against Yorkshire’s Josh Padley (14-0, 4 KOs).

JOSH KELLY TO ‘STEAL THE SHOW’ VS LIAM SMITH ON HUGE WEMBLEY CARD

Josh Kelly: “Firstly, I want to His Excellency, Riyadh Season and Spencer Brown, a big thank-you.
“I’m a big 154 fighter so 160 will suit me.  I have nothing but respect for Liam, he has had a great career, he put Liverpool on the map – him and his brothers – and there is no bad blood between us, it’s just business
“Stylistically it’s one of the best match-ups on the card.”

Kalle Sauerland, Head of Global Boxing at Wasserman, said: “Yet again, the Riyadh Season, the global takeover, delivers. We’ve just got our breath back from the Undisputed clash and 5 vs 5, and now this, a historic card, the best card ever in Britain.
“The main event is absolutely gigantic, but Kelly vs Smith, could steal the show.  Yes, it is the right time to fight Liam, at the right weight.  People who are around the scene, know of Josh Kelly’s potential and this is his time to shine, in front of 90,000 people at an iconic venue.
“But it’s not about this being the right time to fight Liam, it’s Josh’s time.  Adam Booth has done a fantastic job, this man is on fire.  I believe this fight will steak the show.”

Liam Smith said: “This is a great fight on a huge card.  It’s a fight that not many people thought about but now it’s announced, they can see it’s an interesting fight.
“My focus is on Josh Kelly; I am massively confident of winning.  Josh and Adam probably feel like they are getting me at right time.  Fighters have made that mistake before, and they are doing the same thing.

“Josh has got to step up at some point and this might be his right time, but people have thought they are getting me at the right before – Anthony Fowler did so after I fought in Russia.  I feel refreshed now, we have long enough to go, this has lit the fire in my belly.  Big respect for Josh and Adam, but business is business.”

FULL TRANSCRIPT

PICTURE 1: Anthony Joshua proudly holding the Union Jack flag after his London 2012 Olympics Games glory for Team GB. August 2012.

MIKE COSTELLO: London 2012. When you look at that, what’s the first thing that enters your mind?

ANTHONY JOSHUA: What am I doing here? You know, three years before that I was looking at a long, lengthy court case and a possible sentence in jail – and now, I’m the flag bearer of Great Britain. So, it was fun, but I didn’t know what was coming or how I ended up there, to be honest with you.

MC: You’ve gone on to win a World Title, James DeGale did the same, but it’s only the two of you who have done that in men’s boxing from Great Britain (won have Olympic gold for Team GB and gone on to win a World Title).

AJ: Is it? Wow. I do believe that someone else will achieve it too. It’s like when the four-minute mile was first spoken about. It was impossible until someone done it. For now, it is rare, for sure, but I can’t wait for the next young lot of Heavyweights, or whatever weight they come through, and make us look like ordinary people. I think there’s so much talent out there that hasn’t been discovered yet.

PICTURE 2: AJ shaking hands with Eddie Hearn after signing his first professional promotional agreement with Matchroom Boxing in July 2013.

MC: Onto the next one. This is handshakes with Eddie Hearn for your first promotional agreement. You look like you’ve been dressed by your mum for your first day at school!

AJ: Haha! Yes. I used to get my stuff from ASDAGeorge, ASDA! I’d take it to a tailor and get it chopped up for a tenner, then come and present myself to the world. You must remember up until this point, the only time I’d ever really have to wear suits was to court dates or funerals. Now I’m doing big business. From a young age, I always had a hustler’s head on my shoulders so I could stand strong with Eddie Hearn – an educated man, who’s come from a good family. I’ve come from a good family too, but for me, personally education wasn’t always my main priority. I felt like at this stage in my life, boxing wasn’t the hard part. Making sure my business was in the right order was the hardest part.

MC: And that was the promotional agreement that you were so keen to, as you say, ‘hustle’ and keep control of your career from a management side?

AJ: Yes. There’s a saying in Boxing, where Boxing is the only jungle where the lions are afraid of the rats – because you’ve seen what many other promoters have done to boxers before. It wasn’t so long ago, in the 1980s and 90s, when athletes were being taken advantage of by some. It’s such a shame because you see them today – and these are my heroes, and the heroes of so many others – and they’re the guys who really made the Boxing industry work. Thankfully, Eddie has proven to me to be one of the best in the business. The Hearn family and Matchroom Boxing have stuck to their word, so I’ve stuck with them, and I would advise anyone in Boxing to look at them as a promoter and a promotional outfit. They taught me, not only how to navigate my career, but they gave me access to help understand how the business fronts.

PICTURE 3: AJ facing Emanuele Leo in his professional debut. 5 October, 2013. The O2, London.

MC: And you’ve been good to them as well, and this is where it all started with your pro debut, almost a year after the Olympics against Emanuele Leo.

AJ: Yes, Emanuele Leo. And 8-0 fighter. It’s good to get people talking: “Oh my god, this new boxer is coming in and taking on some guy who has had eight fights and won them… let’s see how he’s going to get on.” We did that and I got the job done.

MC: What was the standard like and what did it feel like on the night, to come off the back of the standard at the Olympics against [Roberto] Cammarelle, [Ivan] Dychko, [Zhilei] Zhang and all the rest?

AJ: It didn’t really mean anything at this stage if I’m honest. I didn’t know what was going on! I just kind of trained well and gave my best. You must remember before then I never really had any intention of being a boxer. It wasn’t like, “this is my dream”. This was an experience, rather than a dream. So, I was just riding the wave. I call it a situation where if you know where you’re going, you can turn up to a red carpet and know how to walk down it – you’ll know where you’re going because this has always been part of your plan. But, for me, it’s like the red carpet has been rolled out and I’m just a few steps behind it as it’s going and I’m figuring it out as I go along.

MC: So, did it take time to get comfortable in that space and in that environment?

AJ: Yeah, the pro ranks is different. No head guard, different gloves, smaller ring. Your bare. You’re fighting some of the toughest and best fighters in the world, so this was my learning time in the pro ranks.

PICTURE 4: AJ with his arms raised during fight with Vladimir Klitschko, August 2017. Wembley Stadium, London.

MC: In this one, we move on to 2017 and this is you with your arms raised after the first knockdown against Vladimir Klitschko. What’s going through your mind here as the referee is counting?

AJ: I thought I had won! And I thought I was going to win it from this point on. This is round five and I went on to fight another six rounds after this. So yeah, I thought I’d won it but there was still a long, steep mountain to climb against one of the former greats in Vladimir Klitschko. What I learned after this fight is that there are levels. This guy [Klitschko] is the first guy who ever took me to 11 rounds and obviously he had the pedigree to be in that position to do that. For me, I’ve always said that I need to be a cut above the rest, so I went away to improve, change my style and so forth… and it has brought me to where I am today you know. That fight is the fight that brought to this point here and big-time boxing is back.

PICTURE 5: AJ ring-walking with British rapper K-Trap ahead of his win over Jermaine Franklin at The O2 in April last year.

MC: We’re onto ring walks, how big and how important, of the entire experience, are they to you?

AJ: They’re not so much, because fight focused fight focused. There’s nothing bigger than a victory. It’s not how you walk in; it’s how you walk out. That’s my opinion. But at the same time, I do know it’s not for me, it’s for the crowd. I only do it for the crowd. I’ve walked in with no music before. It is a job. You want to get in there and do your job at the end of the day. All of this stuff here, like Prince Naseem Hamed – what a an entertainer, he was one in a million – but it’s not for everyone.

PICTURE 6: AJ taking a sip of Conor McGregor’s Forged Irish Stout immediately after his seventh-round KO win over Robert Helenius at The O2 in August last year.

MC: This is Conor McGregor after Robert Helenius last year. Talking about entertainment and the whole package, what do you make of Conor McGregor?

AJ: Conor? Larger than life character. He’s someone that you can take inspiration from. Remember, we’re only here once and you have to love live life. A lot of people are like, each to their own, reserved, quiet and just getting through life. He’s someone that is at the forefront of live and living it to its full capacity in his own right – and I like that about him a lot. I like that about him.

MC: Is there any mileage in talking to him about what’s coming up given he fought Mayweather?

AJ: One million percent there’s mileage in talking to someone like Conor McGregor, and even if it’s just like a small gem. Something is better than nothing.

PICTURE 7: AJ triumphantly celebrating following his fifth-round KO win over Otto Wallin on December’s Day of Reckoning card in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

MC: This was taken by a Matchroom staffer at the Day of Reckoning. What does that say? What’s the message here do you think?

AJ: Prayer. Don’t let success get to your head and don’t let failures get to your heart. I was just giving thanks, giving prayer – thankful for another day at the office. Success. I really like that picture.

MC: Three out of three wins in 2023. How do you reflect on the year as a whole? Franklin, Helenius and Wallin.

AJ: It’s in the past. It’s done. I don’t reflect on it in any way. We only look forward.

PICTURE 8: New trainer Ben Davison in the corner during AJ’s win over Otto Wallin at the Kingdom Arena last December.

MC: Well, let’s look forward to this next one with Ben in the corner. What was fresher? What clicked? Something clearly did.

AJ: Belief. You believe in something. And I listened. I meet a lot of people that want advice but I know they don’t believe in what I’m saying, because they don’t believe in themselves probably. I believe in Ben, so what he is saying is just clicking.

MC: Which philosophy would you follow then; fighters make the trainer or trainers make the fighter?

AJ: Trainers make the fighter. Without a shadow of a doubt. You can’t do it by yourself. You can, but you can’t do it for a long time. Every good fighter has had a great trainer. Well the ones that I admire anyway. Even though people will say, ‘oh he trained himself half of the time’, that’s rubbish. Training isn’t just like throw a jab here and throw a jab there, it’s also like your approach, the gems and the wisdom that you get. The environment that a trainer creates. It’s more than just a trainer showing you how to throw a punch. It’s the mindset it takes to land that punch, and if it doesn’t land what happens when it doesn’t land. It’s all of that. Trainers are more than just someone who teaches you how to throw a right hand.

MC: What’s the role of Derrick James, if any?

AJ: He’s cool. That’s my guy if I’m in the States. I don’t just want to train for the fight. I want to continue training. I spoke to Derrick and Derrick rates Ben a lot. He wants to make sure I’m in safe hands. He was like, ‘yeah he’s a very good coach, I’m glad you’re in safe hands’. I feel like I’m in safe hands as well. The relationship is still good. But I’m going to be based in the UK.

PICTURE 9: A black and white portrait of AJ showing his Africa tattoo on his right shoulder.

MC: This was taken some time ago; it was in the Matchroom archive. The tattoo. This deep into your career, what does all of this still mean to you and your identify, Anthony?

AJ: Continue to search for greatness. Keep standing up tall in the face of adversity and in positive times. Back straight, stand up tall and just keep on walking forwards. Life if life, life can happen. Life will happen. So many things happen. I don’t want to start going into everything but when life does happen always stand tall. That’s it.

MC: That’s a map of Africa. Nigeria is pinpointed. Next door is Cameroon from where Francis Ngannou comes from. Is there extra inspiration here for youngsters all across that massive country that you can spread?

AJ: 100 percent there is. There’s a lot of inspiration they can take. Right now we’re at war though. There’s a civil war happening.

MC: And it’s the 50th anniversary this year of the Rumble in the Jungle.

AJ: I said that you know. It does resemble that in a way right.

PICTURE 10: A black a white photo of AJ white the text ‘three-time?’.

MC: So the last one; three-time. I remember being on the ring apron for the rematch again Ruiz in Saudi Arabia, and before I even asked you a question you shouted two-time. How big is that this year?

AJ: It is big. I’m not looking past Ngannou. That’s my main focus. But we’re talking about the pictures. What I’m trying to say is there’s nothing bigger in sport than winning a trophy and in my sport it’s winning a belt, a Heavyweight Championship belt man. That’s massive. That’s what I go back to that picture before – perseverance. Keep on pushing, keep on searching. That’s why we’re going for the third time. How good can I be? And from that journey from the Olympics not knowing where I’m going, imagine now I’ve got a target, I know where I’m going, that red carpet is already laid out for me. All I need to do is arrive at the destination.

MC: And that kid we showed at the Olympics all the way back there might not be in the same company as Ali, Holyfield, Lennox Lewis – these three World Champions.

AJ: Mad. But you know what’s crazy about it all? No one ever lives forever to tell their legacy. We’re all going to pass on. So you’ve got to do your best while you’re here. That’s when you go back to that McGregor picture and you ask me about McGregor, someone who lives and loves life. While you’re here live love life, be confident, flamboyant, be an extrovert, don’t be shy – because at the end of the day when it’s all said and done, you only get one experience and one chance at life.

PPV.COM’s Jim Lampley’s Joshua-Ngannou analysis preview

Legendary boxing journalist Jim Lampley returns to PPV.COM (which does not require a subscription),to co-host his popular and exclusive live viewer chat, in real time, during PPV.COM‘s live stream of the upcoming boxing event headlined by the Anthony Joshua vs. Francis Ngannou heavyweight rumble, Next Friday, March 8, beginning at 1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT.  The Joshua-Ngannou heavyweight rumble will emanate from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.  Priced at $69.99, the Joshua-Ngannou event can be ordered by clicking here PPV.COM | Joshua vs. Ngannou.Below, please find Jim’s analysis of Joshua vs. Ngannou

Jim Lampley’s Analysis

“It’s obvious there are games of tag now ongoing both in boxing’s heavyweight division and in the relevant/irrelevant relationship between boxing and MMA.  Their effects show up as both logical (Joshua fighting the MMA star who made a sudden splash against his primary competitor for heavyweight attention in Great Britain) and illogical (Joshua projecting that it MEANS something to his boxing identity to do better against an MMA star than Fury did).

“So how much irrelevance will the combat sports market bear?  Apparently, plenty. But having diluted some of his stardom both via a silly satellite TV vanity/reality show and then via the shock knockdown and disputed outcome of his tussle with Francis Ngannou, the once and future heavyweight champion Fury now turns back to serious business vs Oleksandr Usyk, the Ukrainian technician who twice outboxed Anthony Joshua somewhat in the shadow of Fury’s dramatic showdowns with Deontay Wilder.

“Joshua lost some, not all, of his once-majestic aura in the two small margin losses to Usyk.  Ngannou is obviously something entirely different.  As time goes by and there are more and more boxing matches governed by boxing rules between boxers (Joshua) and MMA combatants (Ngannou), it’s clear the technical gap is closing, and the MMA stars are finding more ways to compete — see Fury-Ngannou and the disputed razor-thin decision.  But at the end of the day this fight, like its predecessors, takes place under boxing rules and that is still an advantage for Joshua.  And with his very near miss against Fury, Ngannou has supplied Joshua with a potentially vital wake-up call, a useful scouting report, and massive motivation to gain public relations ground by indirectly embarrassing Fury.

“So, at this juncture, en route to Joshua v. Ngannou, there are some clear objectives in view.”

·         “For Joshua, make sure the boxing match is a BOXING match.  Use your jab, stay out of clinches, don’t get into a wrestling match against the rarity of a larger, stronger man.”

·         “For Ngannou, shoot the moon, take risks, swing big when you see the target, maybe this time the knockdown will stick.  Listen carefully to Mike Tyson if he is again in your camp, because a long time ago, Mike was classically trained by a legendary trainer, and he knows, as well as any active heavyweight, the technical realities of boxing.”

“If in the coming months both Fury and Joshua win, it is on to the dream matchup in Wembley Stadium British boxing fans have dreamed of for years.  If Usyk and Ngannou win, that is forgotten, and we keep moving onward into the brave new combat world.”

MATTY HARRIS ON SPARRING NGANNOU, TOM ASPINALL AND SUPPORT OF ANTHONY JOSHUA

Heavyweight Matty Harris has been buoyed by a message of support from Anthony Joshua as he sets out on the road to redemption this week.

Harris returns to the ring on Friday night, on the Wasserman Boxing show at the Telford International Centre, following a shock first defeat of his career last summer.

The 24-year-old, from Leamington Spa, was stopped by Kostiantyn Dovbyshchenko in Edinburgh in July and has now teamed up with world renowned coach Peter Fury in a bid to get back in the heavyweight mix as soon as possible.

Harris – known as ‘Magic’ – takes on Belgium’s Amine Boucetta over four rounds later this week and heads into his return having sparred Francis Ngannou, UFC champion Tom Aspinall and Hughie Fury, among others.

Messages of support have also come from a number of British heavyweights, including Dereck Chisora, Frazer Clarke and the man who faces Ngannou next week – Joshua.

On messages from AJ and others, Harris said:  “A lot of people, including AJ, have reached out, exchanging some nice words, which has been nice.
“And, of course, it’s encouraging to hear these messages.  I guess if they thought I was rubbish, and couldn’t box, then they may not bother and so they reached out because it was a shock defeat.  I am now putting the work in to right those wrongs.”

On sparring Ngannou, the former UFC star who has crossed over to boxing, Harris said:
“If you let him hit you, then he has heavy hands and he is an incredibly strong individual.
“But I was surprised what he did to Tyson Fury.  I expect AJ to go straight through him on March 8.”

On sparring UFC interim heavyweight title holder, Aspinall, Harris said: “He’s a decent boxer!  And he could’ve got to a very decent level in boxing.  He has really good feet, he’s absolutely a good mover and it was Peter who taught him how to box.”

On what it’s like being trained by Peter Fury, Harris said:  “I knew it was going to be hard, it’s my medicine!
“I have to go through this to become better.  Peter has trained world champions before and so I have plenty to learn with him.  He is very old-school in terms of his mindset to the way we do things and you can’t help but appreciate it and there is no substitute for hard work.  And it doesn’t matter how I’m feeling, I just have to get in there and get the work done.”

PPV.COM MAKES ITS 2024 DEBUT LIVE STREAMING THE JOSHUA-NGANNOU HEAVYWEIGHT RUMBLE!

NEW YORK (February 23, 2024) — PPV.COMwhich does not require a subscription, returns to the ring, in its 2024 season debut, live streaming to boxing fans, in the U.S. and Canada, arguably the most intriguing fight in recent memory — the heavyweight battle between former two-time unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and MMA legend and newly minted World Boxing Council Top-10 heavyweight contender Francis Ngannou — Friday, March 8, beginning at 1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT.  The Joshua-Ngannou heavyweight rumble will emanate from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.  Priced at $69.99, the Joshua-Ngannou event can be ordered by clicking herePPV.COM | Joshua vs. Ngannou.

The PPV.COM Joshua vs. Ngannou live stream will once again feature Hall of Fame broadcaster Jim Lampley, who will be paired with award-winning combat sports journalist Kevin Iole, co-hosting an exclusive viewer chat in real time.  Jim will also be providing exclusive fight week commentary and reports for PPV.COM‘s website and social platforms.

“Joshua vs Ngannou is the fight which should tell us whether the surprising result of Fury vs Ngannou was more about surprisingly good Ngannou or surprisingly bad Fury,” Lampley said.  “If Fury’s inability to master a decided underdog was caused by negligent training, inattention to detail, taking an MMA-origin opponent lightly, then an alert, attentive, trained and ready Joshua should handle that opponent with relative ease, and re-establish that boxing is a different craft than the craft through which Ngannou earned his identity.  But if Ngannou is the rare ring competitor who can transfer MMA skills over to boxing, he should show it against Joshua, who is slightly smaller and less physically imposing than Fury.  My first guess is Ngannou’s showing against Fury has created an incentive which will re-light Joshua’s fire, just what he needs after two losses to the superior technician Oleksandr Usyk.  That doesn’t mean Ngannou won’t have his moments — he’s proven he’s a formidable competitor.  But it does mean that in most instances boxers fighting within boxing rules have the edge against MMA gladiators, and Joshua has enough left in his tank to gain a form of public relations victory over Fury by beating Ngannou.  I say that from a distance, and I reserve the right to modify that outlook when I have had a chance to see them up close.”

PPV.COM, which does not require a subscription, will offer Fury vs. Usyk in the U.S. and Canada.  iNDEMAND, the parent company of PPV.COM, will also be carrying the event through its network of cable and telco operators in the U.S. and Canada via providers including, Xfinity, Spectrum, Contour, Optimum, Fios, Rogers, Bell, SaskTel, and Telus, among others.

KNOCKOUT CHAOS PROMISED FOR JOSHUA VS. NGANNOU ON 8 MARCH

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (15 January, 2024) – H.E. Advisor Turki Alalshikh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Entertainment Authority, proudly announces ‘Knockout Chaos’ headlined by former unified World Heavyweight Champion Anthony Joshua in a mouth watering match up against MMA superstar and now Heavyweight contender Francis Ngannou on Friday 8 March at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh.

The event is being delivered to fans across the world by The General Entertainment Authority of Saudi Arabia, Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions, Goldstar Promotions and GIMIK Fight Promotions.

Previously the WBA, IBF and WBO World Champion, Joshua completed a busy and successful year on 23 December 2023 when he defeated Otto Wallin in five rounds in a headline attraction on the ‘Day of Reckoning’ in Riyadh, a fight which marked his return to the elite end of the Heavyweight rankings.

Former UFC Heavyweight champion Ngannou entered the world of boxing when he competed in the ‘Battle of the Baddest’ against WBC World Champion Tyson Fury, which opened Riyadh Season on 28 October 2023. The fight boomed into life towards the end of the third round when Ngannou landed a left hook to the temple of Fury’s head and the champion was put to the canvas.

Ngannou winning the respect and admiration of boxing fans across the globe with a remarkable performance. Now, in what will be his second professional fight, Ngannou takes on the other most popular heavyweight on the planet.

H.E. Alalshikh states that: “‘Knockout Chaos’ is one of the most important events to take place in Riyadh Season so far this year, an occasion which will bring together yet more international champions from one of the most popular sports in the world.”

“I will be ready to go once the first bell rings.” Insists the two-time former unified World Champion Joshua“ I will approach this mission with laser focus until the job is complete. I am looking forward to returning to Riyadh and I would like to thank the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the passion they have shown to myself and the sport of boxing.”

Ngannou pledges to continue silencing the doubters when he takes to the ring for his second professional fight.

“People have always doubted me and I always proved them wrong,” said the Cameroon-born star. ‘It is clear I am a trouble for elite boxers and AJ should prepare himself for a battle because I am like nothing he has ever faced. It is going to be another spectacle for boxing fans in Riyadh, only this time I have no intention of leaving it in the hands of the judges.”

Hall of Fame Promoter and Founder of Queensberry Promotions Frank Warren, added: “Friday 8 March in Riyadh will be another monumental event for the sport of boxing made possible by His Excellency Turki Alalshikh and his team, with who we have established a brilliantly productive working relationship. Riyadh Season has opened up new and thrilling frontiers for our great sport and, in Anthony Joshua vs. Francis Ngannou, we have a further Heavyweight blockbuster that will surely capture the imagination of fans right across the world.”

Eddie Hearn, Chairman of Matchroom Sport and Joshua’s long time Promoter said: “This is undoubtedly one of the biggest fights in boxing and I am grateful His Excellency, Turki Alalshikh shares that view. We’re talking about two giants in Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou, two men who look like they are carved out of stone, two devastating punchers. We are ready for another huge event in Saudi Arabia and a night full of drama. After AJ’s demolition of Otto Wallin he steps up against the former MMA Lineal champ. Francis has already proved his credentials in a thriller with Tyson Fury and comes into this clash full of confidence and fire. This is one of the biggest fights in the sport and one that can be over in the blink of an eye. When these two meet in Riyadh one thing is for sure… it will be Knockout Chaos!”

Manager of Ngannou, Marquel Martin of 3POINT0 Labs said: “Francis has proved he’s the baddest man on the planet against arguably the best boxer in the sport. Anthony Joshua has earned all the respect in the world for his accomplishments, but on March 8th he will realize he’s up against a man who has been through it all in life in Francis Ngannou. Thank you to His Excellency and the KSA for yet another epic Heavyweight showdown.”

To support one of the biggest fight in combat sports history, the event will also feature one of the most impressive undercards in boxing history.

The heavyweight division will take further shape when the Chinese giant Zhilei Zhang (26-1-1, 21 KOs) defends his WBO Interim world championship against former world champion Joseph Parker (34-3, 23 KOs) from New Zealand.

Rey Vargas (36-1, 22 KOs), the WBC World Champion from Mexico will make a first defence of his belt when he takes on No.1 contender, the Liverpool featherweight firebrand Nick Ball (19-0, 11 KOs).

Featuring on the card is a Battle of Britain at Lightweight, where top young contender and IBF European Champion Mark Chamberlain (14-0, 10 KOs) from England will challenge for the European Champion, Welshman Gavin Gwynne (17-2-1, 5 KOs).

VIDEO: Anthony Joshua Vs Francis Ngannou Launch Press Conference

JOSHUA VS. NGANNOU LAUNCH PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

Anthony Joshua:

“Every fight leads to somewhere, so this fight is my everything; my soul, my spirit, my mind, my body. We’ll see where it leads me, right now, I’m not thinking about any championship belts, or anything. My main focus is Francis, realistically, it’s getting through an intense, focused training camp, because how I train is how I fight. If I get victory in my training camp I am sure I get victory on the night. We’ll put the belts on hold because my focus is on getting through training camp and getting to the fight successfully.

(On Ben Davison) “It’s really good working with him and the whole team at the academy. They have helped a lot. I still speak a lot with Derrick James in the States, but being home and having someone just as good, I’m just searching for greatness really. Continuously searching for greatness, how to elevate myself, push forward in every aspect of my game, and this is just another challenge and during each challenge I find out so much about myself. Even though I already know who I am, I know I am going to discover new things about myself and things that can take me to new heights.

“He brings two arms, a body, like every other fighter does. But it’s his mind that is different. Everyone has their own unique mind. In terms of the frame and make up, I’ve seen people like him and he’s seen people like me many times before, but it’s his mind that I have to conquer in the ring. You have to take their soul and spirit, and I am looking for the challenge for sure, it’s going to be good, explosive. There’s many ways to skin a cat, I can counter-punch, he can counter-punch. We can both box, we can both trade, it’s going to be a good fight – and shout out to His Excellency, my promoter, my team at 258 for getting me in this position to showcase why I am the top Heavyweight in the UK. I’m not really concerned about the world, I’m trying to conquer where I live and make everyone know that I am the one that puts boxing on the map.”

Francis Ngannou:

“Thank you to my brother, His Excellency, for once again putting me in this position to live my dream and have all those great experiences like I had in Riyadh two months ago, it was amazing. Hopefully this will be the same thing.

“I’ve been sitting here and listening to people talking and even Eddie praising me, and I appreciate that, but at the same time, I am not sure if he wants me to sleep on his guy – but that’s not going to happen. I am just a beginner out here that’s going to train really hard and do everything as the underdog to win the fight.

“I don’t take my last fight as a reference, I know exactly where I am at, I’m going to get better and better and that’s how I see things. I’m preparing for a tough fight, the Fury fight was great, but that’s in the past and I have a new challenge in front of me, and I take it more serious now than before because now I think there’s something more on the line, which is probably the Undisputed fight. So let’s see, I will do something that no-one has done before and I believe I have the tools to do that, starting with having the win over ‘AJ’ on March 8 in a big fight – not an easy fight, but a possible one and I am going to take it.

“I’m going to fight him, so what do you think I am going to do? I will look for his chin. That’s what you do in a fight, you try to hit someone on the chin or wherever to try to hurt him. I heard he doesn’t have a chin, I don’t know if it’s true or not, we’re going to find out and I hope that I have the opportunity to test that – that’s my wish.”

Eddie Hearn, Matchroom Sport Chairman:

“Just to echo what Frank said, our thanks to the Crown Prince and of course, His Excellency. I likened this earlier, the whole experience, to Football Manager. Imagine being the biggest fan in boxing and having the ability to sit in a room and put fights together at the drop of a hat that the fans want to see. In just five months we’ve seen Fury vs. Ngannou, The Day of Reckoning, Fury vs. Usyk and ‘AJ’ vs. Ngannou, and so much more to come. This is such an incredible opportunity for boxing and it’s being delivered by someone that has an incredible passion for the sport, someone that’s unbelievably knowledgeable. I thought Ngannou and Fury was going to be a mismatch, and His Excellency told me I would be wrong. I said Callum Smith was going to beat Artur Beterbiev and he told me I was wrong. It shows he knows his boxing.

“I met Francis under a year ago in Las Vegas where he told me about his ambition to be in big boxing events. A guy with an unbelievable story, a very strong mind, but if I’m honest, I didn’t take him seriously. I have never known anyone to walk into a sport and compete and, in my opinion, and it was close, beat Tyson that night. It’s never been done before, and he might be unlucky that he’s not sitting here as the World Lineal Heavyweight champion on his professional debut.

“So now, we take him very seriously, and after that fight that we give him unbelievable props for, I said that the biggest fight out there outside of Fury vs. Usyk, is Joshua vs. Ngannou. We had signed the Joshua vs. Ngannou fight and as soon as that show finished on December 23, His Excellency said to myself and Frank, ‘we need to talk – what is the biggest event we can do on March 8?’ The answer was this and in my opinion you have the two biggest fights in the Heavyweight division happening within three weeks of each other in Saudi Arabia. It’s an incredible opportunity. For ‘AJ’, there’s big jeopardy in this fight. I truly believe he’s going to be the Undisputed Heavyweight champion, but he’s doing it the difficult way, going through what some might call immovable objects in the giant of a man to my left. The former UFC Heavyweight World champion, but now, a guy we take very, very seriously in the sport of boxing. ‘AJ’ is on a roll, he’s with a great team, and we cannot wait. This is a dream opportunity for the sport and we’re all so invested to give the fans incredible nights.”

Frank Warren, Founder of Queensberry Promotions:

“This is the fourth event of the Riyadh season and if it wasn’t for His Excellency and his team, the support of Riyadh Season and Saudi Arabia, these fights just would not be happening. That’s a fact. He has been instrumental in making these and previous fights happen, and instrumental in getting Eddie and myself sitting at the same table. We’ve just made another bog fight happen, his best against my best, we’ll make that event happen. This is just what boxing fans have crying out for, begging for us to make to make the fights which sometimes have not been financially viable to make, but now it’s changed. It’s happening so fast, and it’s one after the other, great fights, with fantastic undercards, it just keeps coming and coming and coming. We’re in the golden age of boxing, without a doubt, and if anyone doesn’t want to be on board then they are a fool. I’m very disappointed that Oscar De La Hoya should say what he said, he should know better than that; this is great for the sport. The fights are happening. And it’s down to His Excellency and his team, and at my age, I’m 72 next month, and I’ve never seen or been involved with anything like this in boxing. This is just brilliant, and if you are a boxing fan, you are in boxing heaven. So from me personally, and I think from everyone in boxing, thank you your Excellency for everything you’ve done to make these events happen.

“Prior to the fight with Tyson and Ngannou, I genuinely, genuinely thought it would be a tough fight for a short period of time but thought that Tyson would get the better of him and win the fight very early on. But it turned out that Francis brought something to the boxing ring that I never expected, and that was that he could actually box. We knew he was a tough competitor, we knew he could punch, we knew he’s going to be a handful on the inside because that’s the way that MMA fighters fight, but he was more than that. He was a switch-hitter, he got his timing right, and he put Tyson through one of the toughest fights he’s been through in a long, long time. He put him on the floor, I will say I thought Tyson had an off-night and came through it all, but this guy making his debut like that surprised everybody. I take my hat off to ‘AJ’ for taking this fight because he’s fighting someone that, OK there’s video footage now and you can see what he’s done in a boxing ring which Tyson didn’t have the benefit of, but what has Francis learned? Is he going to be a better fighter? I think for ‘AJ’ he’s in a tough fight, it’s Knockout Chaos because they both have bombs ion their hands, and it will be interesting to see how the fight develops. I think it will be explosive and for the winner, the big fight is happening on February 17 with Tyson and Usyk, and would we like to see them with the winner of this fight? Everyone in boxing would love to see it.”

Dewey Cooper (trainer of Francis Ngannou):

“The Tyson Fury fight was no surprise to us. We told you all from day one what was going to happen. The same thing applies here. We expect fire, but at the end of the day, the flaming fists of Francis will finish ‘AJ’ on March 8 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.”

KIWI HEAVYWEIGHT JUNIOR FA BATTLES UNBEATEN FRANK SANCHEZ ON SATURDAY IN SAUDI ARABIA

RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA (December 22, 2023) DiBella Entertainment’s Kiwi heavyweight Junior Fa, of Otahuhu, New Zealand, returns on Saturday to take on undefeated Cuban Frank Sanchez in a 10-round bout, as part of the “Day of Reckoning” event headlined by Anthony Joshua vs. Otto Wallin. The stacked card takes place in Saudi Arabia tomorrow beginning at 11:00am EST on DAZN Pay-Per-View. The fight is promoted in association with DiBella Entertainment and Warriors Boxing.

Fa (20-2, 11 KOs) is coming off of a first-round knockout against Tussi Asafo in Australia. In September, Sanchez (23-0, 16 KOs) knocked down Scott Alexander en route to a fourth-round stoppage to retain his WBC Continental Americas title.

“It’s been nothing but a pleasure to be here,” said Fa of his time in Saudi Arabia. “It seems like this is where our sport is going. I’m taking it all in. It’s been hard work to get here and I just can’t wait until Saturday because I finally get to fight.

“Sanchez is a good boxer, he’s got good skills,” said Fa. “I trust my team and my game plan. I trust myself. I’m going to peak at the right time. I’m going to bring the best version of myself and get him out of there. I’m going to win by any means necessary.”

Fa’s preparation for this fight included being a part of Deontay Wilder’s camp for his bout versus Joseph Parker on Saturday’s card.

“Deontay Wilder…it’s no secret with him,” said Fa. “The man hits hard, and you have to be sharp every second that you’re in there with him, and that’s exactly what I’m planning to do when I’m in with Frank Sanchez. I need to be sharp every second that I’m in there with him. Keep my wits about me, stick to the game plan, and come away with the win.”

“Junior Fa has the talent, size and tools to be a top heavyweight. He has already shown that he can compete against the best, going 12 hard round with former heavyweight champion Joseph Parker,” said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment. “Tomorrow night against Frank Sanchez, he has a great opportunity to prove he belongs with the division’s best fighters.”

JOSHUA HEAPS PRAISE ON NEW GYM MATES AHEAD OF CRUCIAL WALLIN SHOWDOWN IN SAUDI ARABIA

Former unified Heavyweight king Anthony Joshua has heaped praise on his new gym mates at the Ben Davison Performance Centre in Harlow, Essex ahead of his blockbuster showdown with Sweden’s Otto Wallin in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia this Saturday December 23.

The British star headlines a historic night of boxing this weekend at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh – live on DAZN PPV –  that features some of the biggest World Champions and leading contenders on the planet, including Matchroom stablemates Dmitry Bivol and Jai Opetaia.

Two-time Heavyweight World Champion Joshua (26-3, 23 KOs) is no stranger to fighting in Saudi Arabia, having exacted revenge over Andy Ruiz Jr to regain his Heavyweight crowns on an unforgettable night at the Diriyah Arena back in 2019 before pushing Oleksandr Usyk all of the way in a narrow loss at Jeddah’s King Abdullah Sports City Arena in 2022.

In preparation for his latest main attraction in the Kingdom, Watford’s Joshua has been training under the watchful eye of Davison alongside the likes of Matchroom’s former WBA Featherweight World Champion Leigh Wood, Tokyo 2020 Olympic Silver Medallist and rising Welterweight star Pat McCormack and Super-Bantamweight contender Shabaz Masoud – and the 34-year-old says he is happy with his new training environment.

“In terms of camp, I respect all of the fighters,” Joshua told Matchroom Boxing. “They’ve been there before me. To go in there, I’m aware I’ve got to be respectful of their space as well. I’m not in there like the big Charlie like, ‘yeah I’m here now’. Nah, I respect everyone there, I show them love.

“I’m a big supporter of boxing. Everyone wants to do well. Everyone just wants to push themselves. So I’ve gone in there with that energy – ‘come on let’s go, let’s push ourselves, how can we get better?’

“Me and Jeamie TKV (Tshikeva) we do our crunches and our abs together, me and Leigh Wood do circuits together, Shabaz (Masoud), Pat (McCormack), Luke (McCormack) and all of the other boys in there. I respect the coaches as well.

“It’s a really good environment that gym. I’m happy I was there early enough that I basically had a full camp for this fight. Even though it came up at a late stage like seven weeks out, I’m really happy that I was in training camp early on because this opportunity I didn’t want to miss for the world.”

An unprecedented line-up on a single night of boxing, the ‘Day of Reckoning’ sees former WBO World Champion Joseph Parker takes on the Bronze Bomber and former WBC World Title holder, Deontay Wilder, with IBF No.1 contender Filip Hrgovic fighting Mark De Mori in another Heavyweight shootout.

Also on the unmissable card, undefeated WBA Light-Heavyweight World Champion Bivol defends his belt against Manchester’s Lyndon Arthur, while Ring Magazine Cruiserweight king Opetaia meets Bromley’s Ellis Zorro – and London 2012 Olympic Champion Joshua is ready to help deliver an early Christmas present for fight fans around the world.

“This is the best fight card in history,” said Joshua. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen one like this. Most fight cards you know, you put it on but you’re outside, you’re on the phone, you’re eating, you’re cooking and when the main even comes on you rush back to your seat. This one you want to be sat down from start to finish. Make sure you tune in.”

The ‘Day of Reckoning’ comes after the ‘Battle of the Baddest’, which was held on October 28 during the opening of Riyadh Season 2023, in which Tyson Fury defeated Francis Ngannou.

The fourth edition of Riyadh Season, themed “Big Time,” offers many entertainment options and experiences. It continues to attract visitors from across the globe to Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, during the winter months, providing them with the opportunity to partake in thousands of concerts, exhibitions, and other distinctive entertainment events. Notable celebrities and prominent international brands contribute to the grandeur of this occasion.

Joshua, 250 lbs of Watford, ENG is now 26-3 with 23 knockouts. Helenius, 249.4 lbs of Mariehamm, FIN is 32-5.

VIDEO: Anthony Joshua vs Robert Helenius Plus Undercard Press Conference

JOSHUA VS. HELENIUS PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

Eddie Hearn, Matchroom Sport Chairman:

“It’s a night of Heavy Duty action at The O2 in London, with Anthony Joshua now facing ‘The Nordic Nightmare’, 6ft 9in Robert Helenius as ‘AJ’ looks to move on to some of the biggest fights in the division, and the undercard is stacked with some of the biggest, baddest and best Heavyweights in the world, along with some of our youngest talent.

“We know the issues of the last few days and it’s never easy to think on your feet and adapt, but the instruction from Anthony Joshua was clear, ‘I’m ready to fight and I want to fight on Saturday.’

“We have to thank our broadcast partner DAZN. The great news for subscribers that this is no longer Pay-Per-View – unbelievable value for fight fans to be able to watch ‘AJ’ in a big fight with a great undercard, so thank you to them for their support as we have not only ‘AJ’ that wanted to fight on Saturday, but all these undercard fighters that have had long training camps too, and as we all know, you only get paid when you fight.

“It’s been a challenging few days and I want to thank ‘AJ’, who stayed focused after putting 12 weeks of hard work into his camp and was desperate to fight on Saturday night and showcase the hardwork that took place, and Robert Helenius, who accepted the challenge and has a good team of people around him we knew wouldn’t mess around, and we knew he was fit and had just boxed. This is an important fight at The O2.”

Anthony Joshua (25-3, 22 KOs faces Robert Helenius over 12 rounds at Heavyweight):

“I looked at the undercard and I know how important it is for them to compete. I know how hard you (Eddie Hearn) worked, and all the Matchroom staff, my coach, DAZN, so it’s a responsibility I have. Late replacements aren’t ideal but it’s the third time it’s happened. A long career will present these types of obstacles and I’ve just got to get used to them, it’s just another rock in my shoe to the top of the mountain.

“The principles remain the same, worry about myself. Robert and I sparred years ago, we shared the ring, but I’ve sparred with so may styles, competed with som many styles, the objective remains the same – victory, and victory by any means. There’s no overtime in boxing so I have to be on my A-game and inflict pain to get the victory.

“Coming off the back of Covid, everyone suffered during that period. The sport industry slowed down and now we just want to get some momentum going again. As Derrick said, I came out to camp early this year, I took a couple of weeks, maybe a month back in the UK then went to Dallas, to try to progress on. So, my goal was to fight as many times as possible, like Robert, he fought on Saturday, you have to stay active, keep expressing your skill as that’s the only way to improve. I fought in April, but I’ve spent a lot of time in the ring in the gym as we do a lot of ring work in Dallas, and that’s the closest thing to a fight. It’s not just hitting the bags and mitts, there’s a lot of combat training so I am physically ready.

“It would be silly to underestimate him, or anyone. I have to take him deadly serious and credit to him, he’s coming to roll the dice, he wants to win. Other Heavyweights that were mentioned, finance is an issue – risk versus reward, but in reality, that’s not all there is for him, so good luck to him, and shout out to everyone in Finland, I’ve been there before, and we’re looking to provide some good entertainment from top to bottom as the card is unbelievable.

“The card is phenomenal, it’s the old days at The O2 and this is what we want to bring, it’s entertainment. It’s not ‘I’m coming out to watch Anthony Joshua’, no, it’s ‘I’m coming out to watch a Matchroom show, a great night of boxing’, so credit to everyone involved in this.”

Derrick James, trainer of Anthony Joshua:

“You have to move forward. Now it is all about Robert who is a pretty good fighter, you will see everything ‘AJ’ has been able to work on throughout camp and implement it into his game.

“We have had a little more time this time. It’s all about the process, he’s brought into that process and he’s getting better and better.

“The only difference from Dillian to Robert is you have to change the trajectory of the punches, one shorter and lower, now higher because he’s 6ft 9in. But it’s good, he’ll be able to show his transition from fighting one guy to a week later another guy, so we will see.”

Robert Helenius (32-4, 21 KOs fights Anthony Joshua over 12 rounds at Heavyweight):

“Thank you for giving me this opportunity. This fight offer came to me after my fight at the weekend. I was going on vacation with my family but not anymore, here we are. We had a good camp behind us, and we feel ready. I am ready to fight, otherwise I wouldn’t be here. I respect him, he’s a good fighter. It’s going to be glorious. I’ve been chasing the World Title for 15 years and when you get this big of an opportunity you can’t let it slip and I will give everything to win this fight.”

Markus Sundman, manager of Robert Helenius:

“Massive opportunity, when do you get a call this close to a fight night and you come off a camp and you are in shape, everything has fallen into place. Victory would mean everything.”

Alfie Sharman, VP DAZN:

“We were obviously disappointed with the news but we move, and here we are in London with an AJ fight week, and everybody knows with an ‘AJ’ fight week it’s a huge event.

“We want to thank our great partners ‘AJ’, Freddie Cunningham and everyone at 258, Eddie, Frank and Matchroom and the teams at DAZN working tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure the event goes ahead. Robert is a tough opponent; he’s been in with the best and he’s here to spoil the party.

“The O2 will be full on Saturday, the undercard is incredibly strong, and this night is part of the DAZN subscription and there’s much more to come, make sure you tune in on Saturday live on DAZN.”

ROBERT HELENIUS STEPS IN TO FACE ANTHONY JOSHUA AT THE O2

Anthony Joshua will face Robert Helenius in a 12-round main event at The O2 in London this Saturday August 12, shown exclusively live worldwide on DAZN – with fans now able to view as part of their regular subscription.

This follows the news that the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) informed Matchroom, the Association of Boxing Commissions and the British Boxing Board of Control that Joshua’s original opponent Dillian Whyte had returned adverse analytical findings as part of a random anti-doping protocol. As a result, their fight was immediately cancelled with a full investigation underway.

Saturday’s sold-out event will now be available to watch worldwide on DAZN via the usual subscription service. Fans will be able to claim a refund directly for any pay-per-view pre-orders they had made via DAZN.

On a huge night of Heavyweight action in the Capital, IBF Mandatory World Title challenger Filip Hrgovic (15-0, 12 KOs) clashes with Australia’s undefeated contender Demsey McKean (22-0, 14 KOs) for a shot at Ukraine’s unified World Champion Oleksandr Usyk, two-time World Title challenger and fan favourite Derek Chisora (33-12, 23 KOs) returns to the scene of so many of his famous wins to take on America’s Gerald Washington (20-5-1, 13 KOs) over ten rounds and Romford sensation Johnny Fisher (9-0, 8 KOs) has the opportunity to land his first belt when he faces off with Torquay’s Harry Armstrong (5-1-1) for the vacant Southern Area Title.

Elsewhere on the card, Hyde Super-Lightweight Campbell Hatton (12-0, 5 KOs) takes on Hitchen’s Tom Ansell (10-4, 2 KOs) over eight rounds, Billericay Middleweight prospect George Liddard (3-0, 3 KOs) goes for another knockout against Bas Oosterweghel (5-1, 3 KOs), Wales Featherweight talent Brandon Scott (5-0, 1 KO) makes his Matchroom debut against Shepshed’s Louis Norman (14-13-1, 2 KOs) and Eltham Super-Flyweight Maiseyrose Courtney (3-0) faces her toughest test against Bournemouth’s Gemma Ruegg (7-7, 1 KO).

“This wasn’t in the script,” said Joshua. “I respect Helenius and may I say, I respect any male or female who steps into the ring. I am laser focused on the win. I can make steps forward to bigger and better things but the road map has a check point, Saturday night. May the best man win.”

“I am excited about fighting Anthony Joshua on August 12,” said Helenius. “I am a true Viking that is willing to face any challenge at a moment’s notice. This is not an opportunity I was going to let slip away. I plan to make the most of it!”

Matchroom Sport chairman Eddie Hearn said: “To get the news on Saturday was really disappointing, not only for us but for Anthony Joshua and for the fans. But we got to work and we have done what we’re good at – and we have managed to keep the show on. AJ has been unbelievable throughout this whole process. He is someone who is ready to fight having trained for 12 weeks in Dallas with Derrick James. He has always been a great pro but this just shows me again the hunger he has for the sport. He wants to go out there this Saturday in front of a sold-out crowd at The O2 and perform. There were a lot of options. But we had to make sure it was the right fight for the right deal. I think Robert Helenius is a good fight. Yes, he lost to Deontay Wilder but that was by a shot that would have probably knocked out a horse! But he came to fight. He can really punch, he’s 6ft 8in and he won at the weekend. Ultimately there is criticism in whatever you do, but I actually think this is a tricky and dangerous fight.”

Alfie Sharman VP DAZN said: “DAZN were incredibly disappointed about the cancellation of our original main event on Saturday and are extremely appreciative of the efforts by all involved to get this new fight across the line. Robert has been in with some of the best in the division, and this will be another hard night for Anthony Joshua. Tune in live and exclusive on DAZN.”

ANTHONY JOSHUA V DILLIAN WHYTE FIGHT UPDATE

August 5, 2023 – Today, the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) informed Matchroom, the Association of Boxing Commissions and the British Boxing Board of Control that Dillian Whyte had returned adverse analytical findings as part of a random anti-doping protocol.

In light of this news, the fight will be cancelled, and a full investigation will be conducted.

Further information on the event will follow.

BITTER RIVALS ANTHONY JOSHUA AND DILLIAN WHYTE REMATCH AT THE O2 ON AUGUST 12 LIVE ON DAZN PPV

British Heavyweight rivals Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte will meet in an explosive rematch at The O2 in London on Saturday August 12, shown exclusively live on DAZN around the world and on DAZN PPV in the UK and Ireland.

Two-time unified Heavyweight World Champion Joshua (25-3, 22 KOs) and former World Title challenger Whyte (29-3, 19 KOs) lock horns again nearly eight years on from their wild British Title clash in Greenwich, which Joshua won by a huge seventh-round stoppage to end a thrilling war.

Brixton’s Whyte has a long-running rivalry with Joshua, having beaten the Watford man on points as an amateur back in 2009 before Joshua won an Olympic gold medal at London 2012 which kick-started his meteoric rise to global stardom.

‘AJ’ went on to unify the Heavyweight division, winning the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO crowns as he became one of the biggest athletes on the planet with a string of wins against the likes on Charles Martin, Wladimir Klitschko, Joseph Parker, Alexander Povetkin, Andy Ruiz and Kubrat Pulev.

The 33-year-old convincingly outpointed Jermaine Franklin at The O2 earlier this year as he returned to winning ways under new trainer Derrick James following back-to-back defeats to Ukrainian pound-for-pound great Oleksandr Usyk in 2021 and 2022.

Whyte, whose last win also came via a points decision against the USA’s Franklin last year, fell short in his record-breaking World Title challenge against undefeated WBC ruler Tyson Fury at Wembley Stadium in April 2022, succumbing to a sixth-round TKO loss.

The Jamaican-born warrior, 36, has aspirations of fighting for another World Title and knows that a win over his old foe Joshua next month will put him in prime position for another mega-fight against one of the division’s other glamour names later this year.

In the UK and Ireland the PPV will cost £26.99 via DAZN.com. Prices may vary on other providers.

“I can’t quite believe this fight is happening and there was absolutely no stopping either man,” said Matchroom Sport Chairman Eddie Hearn. “The rivalry runs deep and there is something about these two where they will never back down from each other. At times it may have looked like a game of bluff but now we are set and with everything that’s on the line this is an absolute must win for both. Just like the first time at The O2, get ready for fireworks August 12 and a huge night of boxing live on DAZN.”

“It is great to have Anthony Joshua back fighting on the platform so soon after his fight in April,” said Joseph Markowski, CEO North America, DAZN Group. “We want ‘AJ’ in the biggest fights and in Dillian Whyte this is a massive one – reigniting a feud that has bubbled away for well over a decade. August 12 promises to be fireworks. Watch a night of all out action, live and exclusive on DAZN around the world and on DAZN PPV in the UK and Ireland.”
