Miami’s Navarro Beats Breidis Prescott, Cuevas, Socarras, & Yoon stay undefeated at Rumble at the Rock V

Hollywood, Florida – May 10, 2019-Welterweight Livan “Machine Gun Kid” Navarro 11-0 (7 KOs), of Miami, won a convincing unanimous decision victory over once feared now faded Breidis Prescott 31-17 (22 KOs) in the main event of a packed house for the fifth installment of the popular ‘Rumble at the Rock’ series, at Hard Rock Event Center at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla.

Prescott of Miami via Barranquilla, Colombia is known as “Khanqueror” for his notorious first round knockout of then rising star Amir Khan and also going ten rounds with Terrance Crawford. Navarro got a different version of Prescott tonight and was able to have his way with the worn journeyman landing a variety of shots throughout the eight rounds. Where Navarro has scored KOs in seven of his last eight fights, he was unable to stop the rugged Prescott. The judge’s cards came in at 78-74 and 79-73 and 80-72.

In the 10-round co-main event undefeated, WBA No. 7-rated featherweight contender Hairon “El Maja” Socarras (22-0-3, 13 KOs) of Miami via Marianao, Cuba, got his second victory this year by stopping Monteria, Colombia’s Jesus Martinez (25-8, 12 KOs) after 5 rounds of action. Socarras dropped Martinez in round five, who had enough once he returned to his corner, officially declared a TKO victory at 2:59 seconds of the fifth round for El Maja Socarras.

Hometown favorite light heavyweight “BAD” Blake Davis 2-0(1KO) from Cooper City had his roaring crowd in the house again tonight suited up with black T-Shirts with his pink BAD logo, cheering on the one time top rated amateur. Davis electrified the crowd in round one when he dropped Quintell Thompson 2-8-1(2KO) with a big right hand. Tall and rangy Davis, who sold over $25,000 in tickets, scored with long right hands and uppercuts on the hard-charging Thompson, who would occasionally land a wild left hook. All three judges called the fight 40-35.

Kazakhstani heavyweight Ivan “The Kazakh Giant” Dychko 8-0(8KO) got the 48year old, 303-pound version of former heavyweight challenger Ray “Rainman” Austin 29-10-4(18KO) tonight to “get the party started” at the Hard Rock Event Center at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood Florida. Early in round one Dychko landed clean left hooks and right hands to the jaw of Austin, and for a minute it looked like the Rainman may not make it out of the round one. Round 2 Dychko continued to fire shots at Austin, landing solid right hands and left hooks. Midway through round three Austin turned to referee James Warring with an apparent left arm injury, after a doctor inspection the fight was called a TKO at 1:48 of round 3.

Welterweight Puerto Rican Derrieck “Pretty Boy” Cuevas 21-0-1(14KO) picked up a unanimous decision win over Ghanaian veteran Albert Mensah 31-8-1. Mensah fought most of the fight with his back on the ropes and in his own corner while the Puerto Rican played sharpshooter, slipping most of the seldom counter-attacks from Mensah. The switch-hitting slick Puerto Rican Cuevas, coming off of two solid decision wins over Breidis Prescott and Ed Paredes, was unable to hurt Mensah who offered just enough to stay in the fight and at times appeared to be sleeping on the ropes. A late fight surge from Mensah was not enough as the final cards read 78-74 and 80-72 twice.

In a crowd-pleasing brawl Super Middleweight Cuban Olympian Irosvani Duvergel 6-0(3KO) came off of the canvas to drop the hard-charging Jerhed ‘The Underdog” Fenderson 4-11(2KO) twice in round 3 and again in round five. The Underdog, who was just that, came to fight and was confident in his attempt providing a solid fistic attempt hurting the Cuban again late in the fight and had the crowd on thier feet screaming for more of the same. After 6 exciting rounds, the cards read 59-53 59-54 twice in favor of the Cuban, however, the Underdog gained fans and the respect of the promoter The Heavyweight Factory who ordered an immediate rematch after the decision was announced.

Undefeated super lightweight Logan “The Korican Kid” Yoon 16-0(12KO), fully recovered from a knee injury was back to work with seasoned veteran Robert “Red Hot” Frankel 37-21-1(15KO). Loon worked at a steady pace through the eight rounds and took most of the rounds by outworking Frankel, however not winning the rounds in overwhelming fashion. I had the fight 78-74, as did one judge, the other two scored the fight 80-72.

Undefeated Navarro Ready to Fight Veteran Prescott at Rumble at the Rock V at Hard Rock Event Center at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla. on Friday, May 10

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (May 7, 2019)– Undefeated Cuban welterweight Livan “Machine Gun Kid” Navarro says he’s becoming an animal before his fight and is ready to add long-time gatekeeper Breidis Prescott to his list of conquests.

Miami via Havana’s Navarro (10-0, 7 KOs) and Miami via Barranquilla, Colombia’s Prescott (31-16, 22 KOs) will meet in the 10-round co-main event of the fifth installment of the popular Rumble at the Rock series “Night of the Undefeated” on Friday, May 10, at 7 p.m. at Hard Rock Event Center at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla.

In the 10-round main event, streaking undefeated, WBA No. 7-rated featherweight contender Hairon “El Maja” Socarras (21-0-3, 13 KOs) of Miami via Marianao, Cuba, will be looking for his second victory this year by taking on hardened veteran Glenn Porras (32-8, 20 KOs) of M’lang, Cotabato, Philippines.

Tickets for “Rumble at the Rock V” cost $60, $100, $150 and $250 and are available for purchase through ticketmaster.com.

“I’m just an animal when it gets close to fight time,” said Navarro. “I hate losing in anything I do. I become this beast that can never lose, so I’ll never know what defeat feels like.”

A former heavily decorated amateur who finished at 306-20 against strong Cuban and international competition, Navarro is working hard at Caicedo Sports Training Center with trainer Herman Caicedo. The 28-year-old known as “Machine Gun Kid” has stopped seven of his last eight professional opponents.

“Herman makes sure I’m always ready to step up and win at all costs,” said Navarro. “We work harder than anybody else so that no one can last. I bring too much aggression and throw too many punches. My opponents wear down eventually.”

“He is a former world champion with power in both hands,” said Navarro of Prescott, “I’m as well prepared for him as I am for everyone I fight. I just hope he’s prepared for me, otherwise it’ll be a short fight.”
Navarro says he trusts his team of Caicedo, manager Jay Jimenez and promoter Kris Lawrence of The Heavyweight Factory that they will get him the fights he needs to develop and climb to the top of the 147-lb division.

“They guide me because they know the business side of boxing,” said Navarro. “I’m the fighter, they’re the thinkers. I’m in their hands. I know I will eventually have the chances I need to showcase my skills and prove I can fight with the best out there. I will make my whole team proud one day.”

Also in action, undefeated 20-year-old Hawaiian Logan “The Korican Kid” Yoon (15-0, 12 KOs) will face Denver’s Robert Frankel (37-20-1, 8 KOs) in a super lightweight eight-rounder. Before suffering an injury last year, Yoon had already attained a world ranking. This will be his first fight this year.

In a “can’t miss” crowd pleaser, Cuban super middleweight Irosvani Duvergel (5-0, 3 KOs) will face power puncher Lorawnt T Nelson (5-2, 4 KOs) of Colorado.

Making his second cruiserweight battle, fan favorite “Bad” Blake Davis (1-0) from Cooper City, Fla., will look to thrill fans when he faces Quintell Thompson (2-7-1, 2 KOs) of Columbia, Mo., over four rounds.

Rumble at the Rock V is presented by Kris Lawrence and The Heavyweight Factory. On fight night, the Hard Rock Event Center doors open at 6 p.m., and the action starts at 7 p.m. Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood is located at 1 Seminole Way in Hollywood, Fla.

Perrella dominates Prescott; ready for next challenge

Minneapolis, MN (February 25, 2019) – Welterweight contender Bryant “Goodfella” Perrella improved to 16-2 with 13 knockouts after impressively defeating Breidis Prescott via unanimous decision.

The eight round fight aired Saturday, February 24 on FS2 as part of a Premier Boxing Champions card from the Minneapolis Armory in Minneapolis, MN.

Fighting for the first time since a gutsy majority decision defeat against Luis Collazo the 29-year-old spent time in Las Vegas training alongside some of the world’s top fighters. During a sparring session, He caught the eye of boxing legend Jesse Reid, who then joined Team Perrella.

The Fort Myers, FL native found an early home for jabs, straight left hands and crisp body shots. Perrella displayed excellent ring generalship throughout the fight while confidently showing Prescott it wouldn’t be his night. Prescott did land a few solid shots and knew he’d need a knockout to win in the later rounds but Perrella didn’t falter.

Scores were 79-73 twice and 78-74. “Mindset is everything in boxing,” Perrella said of his victory.

“I’ve got the right team around me and they’re helping me realize who I am as a fighter and what I’m able to do. The fighter you saw in there is the real me. The confidence, ring generalship, the swagger; that’s who Bryant Perrella truly is.”

With Reid joining head trainer Michael Nowling, Perrella’s plan is to return to the gym after a short rest and continue to sharpen his skills before the next fight.

“I’m always looking for tough challenges and am down to face anybody in the welterweight division. What you saw against Prescott is just a preview of who Bryant Perrella really is.”

Fans can follow and interact with Perrella on Instagram and Twitter @BryantPerrella or via Facebook at Facebook.com/TeamPerrella.

Undefeated up-and-coming welterweight Fredrick “General Okunka” Lawson (23-0, 20 KOs) and veteran Breidis Prescott (27-6, 20 KOs) will headline a special Thursday night edition of ESPN Friday Night Fights presented by Corona Extra and ESPN Deportes’ Noche de Combates presentado por Corona Extra on March 26, at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes.

Thursday’s show from the Hialeah Park Race Track in Hialeah, Fla., will mark the second consecutive year Friday Night Fights has visited the historic venue. The card is presented by Warriors Boxing and will also be available via WatchESPN.

Commentators:
Todd Grisham, analyst Teddy Atlas and reporter Brian Campbell will form the ESPN2 commentary team, while Doug Kezirian will host the ESPN2 studio. Pablo Viruega and Delvin Rodríguez will call the fights for Noche de Combates (Fight Night) on ESPN Deportes, while Leopoldo González and Claudia Trejos will co-anchor the ESPN Deportes studio.

Main Event:
In his last fight—which was televised on ESPN2—California’s Lawson scored a 10-round unanimous decision win over Ray Narh.

“I think Breidis Prescott is a seasoned guy who’s going to give Freddie some new looks that maybe Freddie hasn’t seen,” said Lawson’s trainer Abel Sanchez. “This is probably the first major test in Freddie’s career – Prescott has some very good experience against some top-level guys. Freddie’s going to have to go in against a guy who’s on a world-class level.”

Colombia’s Prescott—whose last fight was also televised on ESPN2—is looking to rebound from a 10-round unanimous decision loss to Roberto Garcia.

“Fredrick Lawson is a great fighter. I was looking at his fights, and the kid is great,” said Prescott’s manager Lazaro Garcia. “There’s nothing bad to say about him. I don’t know what his camp is doing, but our camp is working hard, very hard. We studied some of his fights, and we’re ready to rock and roll.”

Co-Feature:
Thursday’s 10-round lightweight co-feature will pit undefeated former junior lightweight titlist Rances “Kid Blast” Barthelemy (21-0, 1 ND, 12 KOs) against Angino Perez (18-6, 16 KOs). Florida’s Perez is looking to continue his winning ways following a second-round TKO win over Joselito del Rosario. Barthelemy first won his title in January 2014 on Friday Night Fights’ season opener against defending titlist Algenis Mendez. The decision was later changed to a no decision after an appeal from Mendez’s promoters. Barthelemy went on to win the title in a July rematch against Mendez. After one successful title defense, Barthelemy decided to vacate his title in February to move up in weight.

CHAMPIONSHIP PRO BOXING RETURNS TO HIALEAH PARK ON MARCH 26

Hialeah Park will be back in the international spotlight when ESPN’s Thursday Night Fights return to this iconic venue with an action-packed evening of championship professional boxing on March 26 starting at 6 PM ET.

The star-studded fight card, which will be broadcast live in the United States and in key Latin markets on ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes, is expected to include the Lightweight debut of reigning IBF Super-Featherweight champion Rances “Kid Blast” Barthelemy, who is 21-0 with 12 knockouts.

Leon Margules of Warriors Boxing, co-promoters of the event with Hialeah Park, confirms that the card will feature a ten-round welterweight affair between Breidis “El Khanqueror” Prescott (27-6, 20 KOs) of Colombia and Fredrick “General Okunka” Lawson (23-0, 20 KOs) of Ghana.

“This will be a key fight for Prescott,” Margules related. “He’s 31, now. He’s won three fights but dropped two since the start of 2012, so he’s pretty much in a must-win situation if he wants to remain relevant in his division.”

Prescott, now fighting out of Miami, won the first 21 fights of his professional career before losing back-to-back outings in late 2009.
Lawson is six years younger at 25. He’s won three different vacant regional title bouts since December of 2012, most recently the vacant IBF International Welterweight title in July of 2013.

“Lawson didn’t fight in the United States until he re-located to Chicago last year,” Margules noted. “He’s a solid pro who doesn’t need friendly surroundings to win. He’s won in Minnesota and California since coming to America.”

Two undefeated Cuban heavyweight fighters will battle on the card. Yasmany “El Tiburon” Consuegra has a record of 16-0 with 14 knockouts, most in the early rounds. Consuegra has not had to wait for the scorecards to be tallied since winning a four-round bout 5 years ago in only his third lifetime fight. Robert Alfonso is 4-0 in his young career.

Tickets for ESPN’s Thursday Night Fights, also billed as “Noche De Combates,” are on sale now through Ticket Force (www.myticketforce.com), www.hialeahpark.com, and at the Hialeah Park Casino cage.

On Friday, July 25, 2014, Leon Margules (Warriors Boxing), Dominic Pesoli (8 Count Productions), Tony Grygelko (Seconds Out Promotions) and Julio Marines (Marines Promotions) proudly present “Conquerors”, an ESPN Friday Night Fights tripleheader, to be broadcast worldwide, live, from Chicago’s UIC Pavilion.

In the night’s 10-round welterweight main event, red-hot rejuvenated contender Roberto “La Amenaza” Garcia (35-3, 23 KOs) of Weslaco, Texas, will look to continue his hot streak by taking on hard-hitting and dangerous Breidis “Khanqueror” Prescott (27-5, 20 KOs) of Miami, via Barranquilla, Colombia.

In the 10-round middleweight co-feature USBA Middleweight Champion and WBA #15, IBF #13, and WBO #11-rated Caleb “Golden” Truax (23-1-2, 14 KOs) of Osseo, Minnesota, will face Sonora, Mexico’s Rogelio “Porky” Medina (32-6, 26 KOs) in a non-title fight.

Opening the telecast will be the return of wildly popular Chicago native Mike Lee (12-0, 7 KOs). Having graduated at the top of his class with a Finance degree from The University of Notre Dame, Lee, a Subway spokesperson and philanthropist, faces an opponent to be announced in a six-round light heavyweight bout.

As always, a huge contingent of “Domers” are expected to be on hand to support their “Fighting Irish.”

Tickets for “Conquerors” are priced at VIP $151, VIP Ringside $101, Mezzanine $51 and General Admission $31 and can be purchased through Ticketmaster (Ticketmaster.com, 1-800-745-3000), the 8 Count Productions Offices: 312-622-7668 or the UIC Pavilion Box Office: 312-413-5740. More information will be available shortly at 8CountProductions.com.

34-year-old Roberto Garcia was last seen winning his second consecutive Friday Night Fights main event on May 1 in Miami by way of impressive TKO 6 against former top contender Victor Cayo. Since rededicating himself to boxing last year, Garcia has been on an eye-opening tear. Despite taking the fight on very short notice, he took a 10-round decision over always tough Norberto Gonzalez in February.

31-year-old Breidis Prescott has spent the last seven years as a top professional, earning a reputation for fight-ending power. Best known for his KO 1 over international superstar and British Olympian Amir Khan, Prescott also holds a victory over current WBA champion Richard Abril and waged an unforgettable war with PPV fighter Mike Alvarado.

30-year-old Truax was on a roll in 2013, but stuttered in January by fighting to a draw with fringe contender Ossie Duran in a Friday Night Fights co-main event. Before that, Truax had put away two local rivals (UD 10 over Matt Vanda and TKO 4 over Ceresso Fort) and scored a nationally televised TKO 6 over former contender Donovan George. The victory over Fort garnered him the USBA and Minnesota State Championships. Truax’s only career loss was to world champion Jermain Taylor and Truax had Taylor down in round nine.

25-year-old Rogelio Medina has been a solid contender since turning pro in 2007 in his native Mexico. Medina earned a return engagement to Friday Night Fights on the strength of his performance against top-level contender Jonathan Gonzalez on May 1. Showing heart, power, determination and toughness, Medina went life and death in a scintillating war with Gonzalez. He lost the decision but won a legion of new fans with his grit.

26-year-old Lee, a Wheaton, Illinois, native, graduated at the top of his class, earning a degree in Finance in 2009 from the University of Notre Dame. It was at Notre Dame where Lee first stepped into a boxing ring. A three-time Notre Dame boxing champion, Lee won the Chicago Golden Gloves in 2009. As a professional, the immensely popular Lee has fought on the undercards of some of boxing’s biggest events. This will be Lee’s second fight in his hometown. He turned professional at the very same UIC Pavilion in 2010.

“I’m happy to be heading back to Chicago with another fantastic show,” said Leon Margules. “This tripleheader will be the show of the summer in a city becoming known for its resurgence of professional boxing. Both main events are sensational action fights and with Mike Lee coming home, it’ll be an unforgettable event for the fans in Chicago who have been so good to us.”

“I’m very excited to once again be working with our good friends from 8 Count, Seconds Out and Marines Promotions,” said Luis DeCubas. “I’ve said this before: the UIC Pavilion is the best venue for boxing in the Midwest and one of the best in this country.”

“I’m especially proud to host another world-class event here at home in Chicago,” said Dominic Pesoli. “Three top-notch, televised fights showcase our great city to fans across the world. Add in an undercard full of promising local prospects and we have another great evening of excitement for our fans.”

On fight night, doors will open at 6:00 pm CT with the first bout scheduled for 7:00 pm. The UIC Pavilion is located at 525 S. Racine, at the corner of Harrison and Racine on the campus of the University of Illinois-Chicago.

The night’s undercard, packed with local favorites, will be announced shortly.

PRESCOTT READY TO SHINE

March 29, 2013 – Breidis Prescott (26-4, 20KOs) will have to wait a little longer before he receives his title shot against WBA’s “regular” junior welterweight champion Khabib Allakhverdiev. Allakhverdiev injured his elbow last week in camp and was forced to pullout of his title defense in the televised co-feature of HBO Boxing After Dark: Rios-Alvarado.

Prescott remains in the co-feature but he will now be fighting in a 10 rounder against lightweight prospect Terence Crawford (19-0, 15KOs) who will be moving up to junior welterweight for the fight. Crawford was originally supposed to compete on the untelevised portion of the card against Robert Osiobe, but he jumped at the chance to step in for the injured Allakhverdiev and now he has the opportunity to step in the ring on an HBO broadcast in his most high profiled fight to date.

It’s unfortunate for Prescott, but being on the televised portion of the card and keeping the opportunity to compete in front of a major audience is nothing to balk at, which is exactly how he sees it.

“I wish I was fighting for the belt, but I’m prepared to fight and it would’ve been much worse not competing at all. Crawford is a talented prospect, but he’s out of his division and out of his league. I’ll make the adjustments and turn in a great performance.

“Who knows, maybe if I impress on Saturday I could earn myself an even greater opportunity? My job is to fight and it doesn’t really matter who’s in front of me because I see every opponent as an obstacle standing in my way, that’s motivation enough,” Prescott said.

Allekhverdiev out with injury; Prescott fight off

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, WBA Super Lightweight champion Khabib Allekhverdiev injured his elbow and his March 30th title defense with Breidis Prescott has been postponed.

The bout was supposed to be the HBO televised co-feature to the highly anticipated rematch between Brandon Rios and Mike Alvarado.

“Khabib’s right elbow is a mess,” said Top Rank Vice-President Carl Moretti. “There are fragments and a lot of blood inside the elbow. He’s going to be on the shelf for several weeks. I don’t expect him to return until the summer. He was in Miami training and apparently was feeling pain for several days, if not a week. He went and had an MRI and an evaluation, and that’s what it showed. He tried to fight through it and stay in the fight but he just couldn’t pull it off.

“He couldn’t fight next week and will be out for a bit. He’ll need therapy and possibly a scope to clean it up. I think it’s been something there for awhile.”

Soon after the injury was disclosed promoters were trying to make a fight between Prescott and undefeated Terrance Crawford. Crawford is already ticketed to fight on the undercard.

“Crawford is already on the card and is in great shape,” Moretti said. “His fight was going to be shown on the international broadcast, and now he’ll get to fight a better opponent on HBO in the opening fight. There’s food and then there’s caviar. This was a no-brainer for us. (If it happens) it should be a great fight in the ring style-wise. You have Crawford, who is a young, undefeated fighter with a pleasing style, and Prescott, we already know the wars he provides. How could this not be an explosion of some sort?”

VIDEO:FRANCISCO “GATO” FIGUEROA

15rounds.com’s Johnny Schulz caught up with light welterweight Francisco “Gato” Figueroa by telephone, following his unanamous decision loss to hard hitting Briedis Presscot. Figueroa is following his montra of Cant Stop Wont Stop and still has plenty of fight left in him. Figueroa’s, recent battle with Presscot, his future and a move to lightweight is discussed.

Alvarado – Prescott; Cruz – Burgos on Pacquiao – Marquez III undercard

Dan Rafael of espn.com is reporting that two fights have been agreed upon for the November 12th Pay Per View undercard that will be highlighted the third fight between Manny Pacquiao – and Juan Manuel Marquez in Las Vegas.

One of the bouts will have junior welterweight contender Mike Alvarado (31-0, 22 KOs) of Denver facing Colombia’s Breidis Prescott (24-3, 19 KOs).

“That’s a pretty good fight isn’t it? I think so. It’s a good test for Alvarado and a good fight,” Arum said.

In a fight that will open the PPV broadcast, Arum said that Puerto Rican junior lightweight Luis Cruz (19-0, 15 KOs), who recently signed with Top Rank as his co-promoter, will face Juan Carlos Burgos (27-1, 19 KOs), a former featherweight title challenger who is moving up in weight.
