FROCH AND GROVES WEIGH IN AND ARE READY FOR WAR TODAY ON AWE

Carl Froch
SAN DIEGO, CA. (November 23, 2013)—TODAY it will be one of the most anticipated bouts of 2013 when IBF/WBA Super Middleweight champion Carl Froch (31-2, 22 KO’s) defends his titles against undefeated George Groves (19-0, 15 KO’s) in a bout that will be televised LIVE in the United States on AWE and AWEtv.com

The action begins at 3pm ET / 12 PM noon PT
The passion from both fighters has been seen and heard as the trash talk has been ramped up over the past few weeks that has created a heated tension between the fighters.

“Hate is a strong word – I don’t hate him,” said Froch. “I just don’t like him. There’s nothing desirable about him, his attitude, his demeanor, the way he conducts himself, his lack of professionalism.”

Froch weighed in at 167 ¾ lbs while Groves checked in at 166.8 lbs for the battle.

Froch tried to intimidate the upstart challenger by whispering in his ear and the two fighters had to be separated.

Groves did not back down and both guys are ready for what could yet another great day of boxing AWE.

In the co-feature, Scott Quigg (121 ¾ lbs) defends the WBA Super Bantamweight title when he takes on Argentinian Diego Silva (121 ½ lbs).

Fans will get to see a full 4 hour card with undercard fights featuring Former Middleweight world title challenger and Lightweight’s Anthony Crolla and Stephen Foster Jr.

“This is going to be an outstanding fight”, said AWE President Charles Herring

“These two guys do not like each other and Groves desperately wants to be where Froch is. This will be a passionate fight that some insiders are calling this the fight of the day and a candidate for Fight of the Year. Carl Froch is always in those types of fights and George Groves has youth, hunger and ‘won’t take a backwards step and we are excited to bring this to the fans on AWE & AWEtv.com”

WBA SUPER BANTAMWEIGHT CHAMPION SCOTT QUIGG DEFENDS TITLE THIS SATURDAY AGAINST DIEGO SILVA ON AWE AND AWETV.COM

SAN DIEGO (November 20, 2013)—This Saturday afternoon at 3pm eastern / 12 noon pacific on AWE & AWETV.COM, one of the most anticipated all-English showdowns will take place as WBA/IBF Super Middleweight champion Carl Froch takes on undefeated George Groves. Before that big fight, there will be a 12 round WBA Super Bantamweight title bout between undefeated champion Scott Quigg and #14 ranked Diego Silva.

Quigg, who is 26-0-2 with 19 knockouts just fought to a draw with undefeated Yoandris Salinas just seven weeks ago on October 5th.

“Training has gone well,” said Quigg when reached just three days before the fight. “I was at the gym just two days after the Salinas fight. I am improved and am ready for Saturday.”

“It was my team’s idea to come back so quick as I wasn’t hurt and I am a gym rat. I wasn’t hurt or bruised at all so everything should be good on Saturday.”

Quigg knows that the fight with Silva (29-2-4, 15 KO’s) could make for an entertaining appetizer for the main course that is Froch and Groves.

“We have seen a few tapes. He comes forward and is aggressive. That will make it good exciting for the fans.”
While being relatively unknown to the American fight fans, Quigg knows that this is a big opportunity to throw his name into the mix for big fights.

“I want to be in the big fights. There is pressure to perform as I want to make some noise across the pond. This is a big platform so I can make this happen.”

Quigg also knows that there are a lot of significant names to make those fights a reality.

“Rigondeaux is obviously the number-one guy in the division but there is Leo Santa Cruz, Kiko Martinez and even Vic Darchinyan if he goes back down to 122 lbs that can make for great fights for me.”

One name that wasn’t mentioned but is first and foremost on his mind as a future opponent is undefeated Carl Frampton of Northern Ireland.

The two have been linked to fighting each other for a couple years now and a win over Silva can make this fight the next biggest fight in the United Kingdom after the conclusion of Saturday’s main event and the recent cancellation of the Heavyweight battle between David Haye and Tyson Fury.

“I want the Frampton fight. We made him an offer and the fight didn’t happen. It’s good to have him as a rival and after Carl and George get done on Saturday, that is the biggest potential fight in the United Kingdom.”

“On Saturday night, I am going to prove that I am the real deal and the best in the division.”

WARD LAYS DOWN GAUNTLET BY DECLARING TO KNOCKOUT ‘DELUSIONAL’ FROCH IN REMATCH AHEAD OF FIGHT THIS WEEKEND LIVE ON BOXNATION

wardpresser150
LONDON (16 Nov) – Super-middleweight king Andre Ward has laid down the gauntlet to Carl Froch, declaring he can knockout the ‘delusional’ British star in a world title unification rematch.

The WBA Super and Ring Magazine world champion has opened the door to a potential blockbuster matchup against the reigning IBF world champion Froch, should both men come through their upcoming battles.

Ward faces off against the unbeaten Edwin Rodriguez in Ontario, California this weekend, a fight you can see live and exclusive on BoxNation, with Froch taking on the rising George Groves in a grudge match later this month.

Should both prevail, Ward is convinced that a super-fight could be next up for the 168-pound division’s two top dogs.

“I think a fight with Froch is definitely something that could happen,” said Ward.

“I’ve said this so many times but I’m not chasing that fight. I won the last fight hands down, and I would be secure moving on. But it’s something that he feels he wants to get another crack at and I’m open for that, absolutely,” he said.

The Olympic gold medalist is also of the belief he can make an early night of it should he share the ring with the Nottingham man again, especially due to the fact he fought with a broken left hand in their first encounter.

“I think I could stop Froch in a rematch. I don’t believe the hype that Froch is invincible. I think he has a really good chin, has taken some big shots and stood up under them and I give him credit for that,” Ward said.

“But sometimes the media makes him out to be some iron man who can’t be stopped. He can be stopped if he gets hit with flush shots.

“It’s only natural to think that if you come into a fight inhibited, injured and limited and you’re still able to do a certain amount of work – if you’re fully healthy just imagine what would happen,” he stated.

The bad blood between the pair has grown ever since their fight in December 2011, due in part to a perceived lack of respect from Froch who has questioned his contemporary’s drawing power.

“I don’t look at it as disrespect – I think he’s delusional,” Ward stated.

“Look at Carl Froch and some of the stuff he says and it doesn’t always add up. One aspect he talks about [is drawing power], if you look at his last ratings on HBO and my last one, it’s night and day.

“He had a few hundred thousand people watch his fight in America and we had over a million watch my last fight with Chad Dawson, so I think he needs to focus on what he’s doing,” said Ward.

The 29-year-old from Oakland has also thrown into question Froch’s apparent warrior tag and has asked why he never brought it to the fore when they clashed.

“It’s funny when a guy says you’re boring but he had 12 rounds, 12 rounds, to make it interesting, to be the monster that he says that he is and get a war going,” he said.

“If you watch that fight I didn’t run, I didn’t duck, I didn’t dodge, I was right in the pocket with him. It was tougher than he thought it was going to be, so instead of giving me my just due he makes excuses,” Ward added.

“Now he’s turning into a TV executive, and then a promoter, when he’s talking about no one wants to watch me. Well, his fans in the UK want to watch me as well as fans in the US, so I just don’t think the stuff he says is accurate or adds up,” he said.

Ward believes that the three-time world champion should take a leaf out of Ricky Hatton’s book and give credit where credit is due.

The fan favourite ‘Hitman’ suffered defeats against two of boxing’s household names in Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao but was quick to praise both following his losses, something which Ward thinks Froch can learn from.

“It’s really sad a champion of his calibre can’t give a guy his just due and say ‘you know what, he was the better man that night’,” said Ward.

“I think the fans would respect him a lot more if he did that, American fans and UK fans. Look at Ricky Hatton, he was that type of guy, he lost and he said ‘no excuses, it was my fault’ and then moved onto the next one,” Ward said.

“I think that’s why Ricky Hatton is so beloved the way he is because he was going to give it his all, 100%, and if it didn’t go right he wasn’t going to make excuses. And that’s what Carl Froch specialises in – making excuses,” he said.

QUIGG WBA DEFENCE LEADS THE BRIT PACK ON FROCH VS. GROVES UNDERCARD

Scott Quigg will defend his WBA Super Bantamweight title against Diego Silva on November 23 at the sold-out Phones 4u Arena Manchester live on Sky Sports Box Office, with an undercard packed full of Britain’s hottest talent.

Quigg’s gym-mate and resurgent Lightweight star Anthony Crolla challenges Martin Gethin for the British title on a busy night for trainer Joe Gallagher, who will also have unbeaten Super Middleweight sensation Callum Smith in action and unbeaten Lightweight talent Scotty Cardle.

There’s also a late spot on the bill for St. Helens’ Middleweight star Martin Murray, who is back in action after his controversial loss to Sergio Martinez in his second World title challenge in April. The 31 year old will now box in Manchester after his December fight in Australia fell through, with an opponent to be announced soon as Murray looks to secure a third World title shot in 2014.

Unbeaten Quigg held onto the title with a draw against highly rated Cuban Yoandris Salinas at The O2 in October, and the dazzling Bury fighter now faces the Argentinian as the chief support to Carl Froch’s blockbuster WBA and IBF Super Middleweight title defence against bitter British foe George Groves.

Silva is the current Latino Super Bantamweight champion and unbeaten in his last six fights, with his last defeat coming at the hands of three-weight World champion Fernando Montiel for the interim WBO belt. With 15 stoppage wins from 29 victories and 35 fights, the 30 year old promises to provide Quigg with another tough title challenge in Manchester.
Crolla is riding high after beating Gavin Rees in Bolton in June for the WBO Inter-Continental title and is aiming to be the British champ for the second time. Gethin travels to Crolla’s backyard for the first defence of the vacant title he claimed in January in his hometown of Walsall, where four months later he took on Ammeth Diaz in an IBF World title eliminator, with his brave challenge ending in the seventh.

Rocky Fielding defends his Commonwealth Super Middleweight title against Guyana’s Lennox Allen, with the unbeaten Liverpool favourite winning the belt on home turf in September and facing a tough task against the unbeaten New York-based Allen, who boasts an 17-0-1 record with 10 wins inside the distance.

Olympic Gold medal heroes Anthony Joshua MBE and Luke Campbell MBE are both in action in their fourth pro contests, as Heavyweight star Joshua takes his first significant step in the paid ranks against Hector Avila, who took Dereck Chisora nine rounds in April, while unbeaten Super Flyweight Kal Yafai continues his comeback from injury.

London (23 October) James DeGale MBE is out to send a big ‘statement’ to the super middleweight division on November 16th at Glow, Bluewater, live on Channel 5 from 10pm.

DeGale takes on ‘Dangerous’ Dyah Davis, a former NABF champion who has faced and beaten undefeated fighters and shared the ring with the WBC world super middleweight champion Sakio Bika.

A tough American who boasts 22 wins and will provide a stern test as his namesake suggests.

But the man fondly known as ‘Chunky’ recognises the threat and is focussed on overcoming it in style.

“I’m going to be going in there switched on and full of confidence and try and get that stoppage win,” James said.

“It’s a great venue and I want to go in there and put on a performance for all the fans – I want the big names and the big nights and I know the first step to that is doing a good job on Davis.

Groves switches trainers before Froch bout

Future Super Middleweight world title challenger George Groves will change trainers from Adam Booth to Paddy Fitzpatrick before he challenged IBF Super Middleweight champion Carl Froch on November 23rd.

“I am extremely happy to name Paddy Fitzpatrick as my new trainer going into what is the biggest fight of my life,” Groves said in a statement on Monday. “Paddy and I have worked closely together in the past and already have a very good relationship, one built over many years. Not only has he worked my corner for important fights, we have also spent a lot of time together when abroad on training camps, where Paddy has overseen a number of significant sessions.

“Although this is a fresh change for me, I’m working with someone I know and respect, and someone who knows my game inside out. We both know how the other works, so it won’t take long to hit the ground running.”

“His experience and knowledge of the game is world-class and he is, without doubt, the perfect trainer to help me prepare for my next fight,” Groves said. “He has a great energy, both in the gym and on fight night, and I feel totally comfortable in his presence. I’m looking forward to working with Paddy on a full-time basis and I’m excited to start adding many more tools to my arsenal. By the time Nov. 23 arrives, I’ll be better than ever. And more than capable of dethroning Carl Froch.

Froch – Groves title bout set for November 23rd

Carl Froch
IBF Super Middleweight champion Carlo Froch will defend against undefeated George Groves on November 23rd in Manchester, England according to Dan Rafael of espn.com

“I’m delighted to bring this event to Manchester on Nov. 23,” said Matchroom Sport’s Eddie Hearn.. “This ‘Battle of Britain’ is a fascinating fight between a true legend of British boxing in Carl Froch and a superb young talent in George Groves. It’s going to be some atmosphere, some occasion.”

“Phone lines, Twitter and emails haven’t stopped for tickets since we confirmed the fight,” Hearn said. “We are expecting another instant sellout when we go on sale on Sept. 17.”

Froch to face Groves in all UK showdown

Carl Froch
According to Dan Rafael of espn.com IBF Super Middleweight champion Carl Froch will defend against mandatory challenger George Groves in what will be a much anticipated United Kingdom showdown.

“I’m delighted to have got this fight made,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “It’s a great fight for British boxing with a real throwback feel to the big domestic fights in the super middleweight division in the ’90s. When George became the mandatory challenger, I knew there was no way Carl would relinquish the belt and no way that George would look anywhere else.

“This fight will grow and grow and fans can expect an exciting night and a packed undercard when full details of the fight are announced.”

“I’m excited the first defense of both my belts is a big domestic clash,” Froch said. “I am a proper fighter and a proper champion and I will always face my mandatory challenger rather than vacate the title. I’ve known George for a while. I’ve sparred with him and watched him grow and now he’s my mandatory. I will be pouring everything into my preparation for the fight and George will face the very best of me.

“It is better this way than a low-key overseas opponent as this fight will relight memories of some of the great all-British clashes and, with world titles on the line, it’s a really huge occasion and one that will grab the attention of British sports fans.”

“This is the biggest fight of my career and being a world champion is something that I dreamed of as a kid,” Groves said. “I’m well-ranked across all the governing bodies but fighting Carl is the one that I wanted the most. He is a big name in the U.K. and a well-respected champion around the world, and I have a great team around me that can put together the right game plan to beat him and become a world champion and a major force in the super middleweight division.”

Froch and Kessler, gentlemen and consensus

Kessler Froch Weigh in
In round 6 of their super middleweight match, Saturday, Englishman Carl “The Cobra” Froch and Dane Mikkel “Viking Warrior” Kessler briefly got separated by the ref after a Kessler blow struck well beneath Froch’s cranberry-satin belt line. Froch shook it out, dangling his right foot off the mat till he was rearranged enough to resume, and then the two men came together and Kessler belly-piped Froch with a 2-3 combo that was Kessler’s best of their match’s first half.

Froch, practiced as any prizefighter at showing an opponent no spiritual weakness while showing sundry technical weaknesses in a uniquely shameless way, tucked his hearth-bottom chin, took the blows, and fought back without spite or regard for personal safety – the way a gentleman is expected to do. London’s aficionados applauded raucously, the scrap continued apace, and Froch had his satisfaction, prevailing in a rematch with Kessler by unanimous decision.

There is something absurd about Carl Froch’s self-belief, and the absurder element of it is its contagiousness, an infectious impulse so potent others catch it and assign Froch many times more effectiveness than his attacks merit, a reflexive thing that confirms itself while denying reason. The affliction of Froch’s self-belief does not noy cautious and naturally suspicious technicians like Andre Ward, a man likely to believe the most potent thing about any opponent for 10 minutes, but someone like Mikkel Kessler, a man with little cause for caution who nevertheless finds his attack bilked, time and again, by the force of Froch’s absurd self-belief and its awkward manifestation – so awkward an attentive spectator must sometimes ask: Where does The Cobra practice such moves?

It’s a proper question because you cannot toss yourself at the handpads the way Froch tosses himself at an opponent, and no one would shadowbox with such raveled feet or twisted torso, and you cannot make a heavybag elusive as Froch can make an opponent; it is as if, in camp, Froch begins swimming at a line of double-end bags, punching, missing, bracing, absorbing, eluding, biting, countering, pivoting, blocking, tasting, and pirouetting, before he arrives at the rusted pipe of their frame, touches it with a spin, then swims home, getting as well as he gives, and ending each lap with an avouching nod. Pity poor Mikkel Kessler, then, for showing any vulnerability to a man capable of such random violence and indefatigable self-belief.

Their second fight, though, was very much closer than one official judge and one unofficial judge had it. Rounds 3, 4 and 5 could probably have gone either way, with two of them perhaps belonging to Kessler. Rounds 9 and 10 were good, even affairs. When five rounds of 12 were that close, there is no reason for one man to win a fight 118-110, unless a judge is scoring crowd noise, and if she is doing that, how much better is she than a decibel meter?

Lost in the cacophony about Froch’s chin was a point open to be made about Kessler’s: He caught the entirety of the fight’s unpredictable punches and the final counter in every exchange, an absurdly confident Froch punctuation mark at the end of every paragraph, and yet Kessler did not buckle as he did in their first match. He got shuffled round the ring, and his head got jammed backwards more than advisable, but he was never in danger of being stopped, and if anyone wintled from a punch, it was Froch in round 11, when the Cobra sprang into a rightcross counter and staggered ropesward immediately after.

Froch-Kessler II was a gentleman’s fight in gentlemanliness’ birthplace, an agreement between two chums to make a hellacious scrap, dirty as it need be, entertain those gathered, and embrace at the close. There was a tender moment when, after hugging the man he verily believed he’d beaten, and while still buzzing from what blows the man sloshed his brain with, Froch held Kessler’s handsome pink face between his black gloves and asked several times if his friend were all right. It was a thing Europeans have to show us how to do; our best Americans take themselves too seriously, and therefore every punch too personally, to fight so hard or show such affection immediately afterwards; and Latin America’s finest, usually Mexicans, keep score of grievances too proficiently and with much too much granularity, in their fetish for vengeance, to hope for a foe’s health while their own remains compromised.

The world does not await a rematch between Andre Ward and Carl Froch, a rematch the victor seems to want more than the vanquished; Froch alluded to Ward’s spoiler style and how incapable it often proves of uplifting observers’ spirits, Ward replied no fighter ever prefers a style than solves his own, and both men were correct. After ignoring the super middleweight division and its deserving champion for years, HBO now appears to have wagered its future on Ward’s charisma, a characteristically wrongheaded bet and typical overcorrection by a network whose commentating crew regularly swings like a tardy pendulum between proofs and disproofs of its prefight narrative, and prizes consensus more than interesting people do.

Ward convincingly defeated Froch 17 1/2 months ago by accumulating a large points lead, conserving strength, and finishing hungrily – but if Ward won the second half of their fight on an unbiased scorecard, it wasn’t by much. Which is a thing that should be said about Froch’s Saturday victory over Kessler. Froch-Kessler III will be more enjoyable for all involved than Ward-Froch II.

Froch gets revenge and defeats Kessler in Barnburner

Carl Froch
Carl Froch extracted revenge and retained the IBF and won the WBA Super Middleweight title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Mikkel Kessler in a terrific fight at the O2 Arena in London.

The bout was very competitive with Froch’s volume and come forward style being the difference in the outcome.

Froch was effective early with Kessler only looking for one shot. Kessler started to come forward and landed some vicious right hands that the Nottingham, Englad native Froch walked right through. The two had frequent toe to toe exchanges throughout the second half of the fight the had the capacity crowd of 19,000 people on the edge of their seats for much of the bout. The fight mirrored the first fight, which was won by Kessler on April 24, 2010 in Denmark in a thrilling battle.

Froch won by scores of 118-110, 116-112 and 115-113 and is now 31-2. Kessler of Denmark fought a tremendous fight but came up short and is now 46-3.

BELLEW-CHILEMBA ROUND 13!

New York, NY (5/23/13) – On March 30, top-rated light heavyweight contender Isaac “Golden Boy” Chilemba (20-1-2, 9KO’s) and reigning WBC silver light heavyweight champion Tony Bellew (19-1-1, 12KO’s) battled to a 12-round split decision draw in Bellew’s backyard of Liverpool. Now, the two combatants are set to go at it again this Saturday night, on the undercard of the much anticipated rematch between defending IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch and Mikkel Kessler at the beautiful O2 Arena in London. The bout, promoted by Matchroom Sport, in association with DiBella Entertainment, is scheduled for 12 rounds and will once again be for Bellew’s WBC Silver light heavyweight title.

“I am sharper, stronger and definitely healthier this time around,” said WBC #3, IBF #9, and WBO #9-rated Chilemba. “I will adjust and do whatever is necessary to beat him and bring the victory home. The changes that I made this time were mostly to do with my approach to the camp and keeping healthy. Buddy has made a few changes in the ring with me as well.”

In their first bout, Chilemba got off to a slow start, allowing Bellew to take the early rounds behind a loudly partisan hometown crowd. Chilemba picked up the pace in the fifth frame, and after the sixth, trainer Buddy McGirt gave Chilemba an earful in the corner, stating, “You can’t keep backing up, you can’t win like that.”

Chilemba followed instructions and began pressing the action and controlling the pace of the fight behind his jab, frustrating Bellew and silencing the sold-out crowd in the process.

In the end, the bout was ruled a draw with one judge scoring 116-112 for Chilemba, the other tallying 116-115 for Bellew, and the third having it even at 114-114. Now the two are set to begin round 13, in what promises to be a huge night of boxing in the U.K.

“I feel like I’ve already beaten Tony, but apparently that wasn’t enough, so this time I am getting in the ring with full intentions of surpassing my last performance. If Tony thought he had it tough in our last bout, then he better be ready this time around because he is in for the fight of his life.”

Froch-Kessler final press conference quotes

carl-froch_victory
IBF CHAMPION CARL FROCH:

“It doesn´t get any better than this… to be involved in a fight of this magnitude at this scale against a fighter like Mikkel Kessler at this venue…I could almost explode. I feel shaky and nervous but also confident and strong. I am so sharp. I will enjoy it, I will leave absolutely everything in the ring, heart, soul, guts, tears and blood if necessary.”

WBA CHAMPION MIKKEL KESSLER:

“A lot of people said I am crazy to come to London and fight him in his hometown because I have already beaten him once. But you know what, this is the fight I want to fight, I don´t see any bigger fight in the world right now. I am a man of my word and I shook his hand and I said I am going to fight you in your hometown and that is why I am here. I want to show him and all the fans that I am better than him in his hometown, too. And I want his belt, I have never had the IBF belt.”

Mikkel Kessler media work-out quotes

kesslerberlin1
WBA Super-Middleweight Champion Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KOs) has arrived in London prior to his blockbuster unification rematch with IBF champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KOs). The Viking Warrior held a media training session at the Hayemaker gym today. “The hard work has been done, Jimmy Montoya has put me through some very exhausting sessions,” Kessler said. “I´ve had the best sparring of my career against top guys like Nathan Cleverly, George Groves and Erik Skoglund. I am in fantastic shape and I am ready to beat Froch again. Bring it on!

“Carl has put himself under a lot of pressure. That can make you do stupid things and mistakes. I am in great shape, I couldn´t be more ready, I feel very comfortable. Froch will definitely not get his revenge.”

Super sparring for Kessler – Cleverly, Groves and Skoglund in Copenhagen

mikkel-kessler_21
WBA Super-Middleweight Champion Mikkel Kessler will get the most competitive sparring of his career prior to his May 25 showdown with IBF Champion Carl Froch. The Viking Warrior will train with no less than three unbeaten youngsters in his Copenhagen gym this week: WBO Light Heavyweight Champion Nathan Cleverly (26-0, 12 KOs), WBO #1 super middleweight contender George Groves (18-0, 14 KOs) and WBC Youth Light Heavyweight Champion Erik Skoglund (16-0, 9 KOs). Together, they have amassed a perfect record of 60 wins, zero losses and 35 KOs. Kessler´s KO record also stands at 35, along with 46 wins and just two defeats. “It´s great to have them in Copenhagen,” Kessler said. “This is the best preparation I could have asked for. To have three guys like that – a world champion, a youth world champion and a top-ranked contender – is probably as good as it gets in terms of sparring. They are young, hungry and unbeaten and they will push me to the limit. That´s exactly the kind of warm-up I need to beat Carl Froch again.”

Said promoter Kalle Sauerland: “Mikkel is the kind of fighter who always wants to test himself against the very best, no matter whether it´s training or the actual fight. Cleverly, Groves and Skoglund – the fact that he wants to get it on with them in training really shows you what the Viking Warrior is all about. When push comes to shove on May 25, the fighter with the better preparation will prevail, and that´s just another reason why Mikkel will leave the ring victorious.”

6 bouts added to the Pascal vs. Bute Card on May 25th. Alvarez, Bizier and Zewski to see action!

jean-pascal1
Montreal, Tuesday, April 30th, 2013 – InterBox and Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM) are proud to announce all six undercard bouts that will support the historic fight between Lucian Bute (31-1-0 24 KO) and Jean Pascal (27-2-1 16 KO) on Saturday, May 25th 2013 at the Montreal Bell Centre. 4 title belts will be on the line for this Mega Card that has already convinced over 17,000 fans to purchase their tickets. Several new good tickets have been placed into circulation for the general public on Monday.

Froch vs Kessler II: IBF and WBA World titles Unification bout aired live at the Bell Centre

The evening’s festivities will get under way at 6:30 PM at the Bell Centre, with the live presentation of the much anticipated rematch between Carl Froch (30-2-0, 22 KO) and Mikkel Kessler (46-2-0, 35 KO) on big screen. The winner of this bout will unify the Super Middleweight titles (IBF & WBA). Both boxers squared off for the first time during the Super 6 Boxing Series in April 2010 in Denmark, with Kessler walking away from a hotly contested showdown with a unanimous decision victory on home soil (115-113, 116-112, and 117-111). Having promised Carl a rematch in his Home Country, Kessler signed on the dotted line to fight Froch at the 02 Arena in London. Froch is looking to avenge his loss and add the WBA belt to his long list on accomplishments.

Alvarez vs Green

Undefeated #5 rated WBA Light Heavyweight contender Eleider Alvarez (12-0-0 8 KO) will be looking to score a 4th consecutive knockout at the Bell Centre. His customer is a tough one and certainly no stranger to Quebec. Allan Green (32-4-0, 22 KO), a former Super 6 contestant, is 2-0 in Quebec rings, having beaten Quebeckers Sebastien Demers and Renan St-Juste. This bout is scheduled for 10 rounds.

Gauthier vs Roman

Sebastien Gauthier (22-4-0 14 KO) from St-Jerome, Quebec, has not had life easy his last few fights, having come out the losing end of physical and bloody wars with ex-World champions Steve Molitor and Rodrigo Guerrero. Gauthier will be looking to renew with the win column but will be facing another tough test in California boxer Manuel Roman (15-2-3, 6 KO) over 8 rounds.

Bizier vs Rios

Quebec native Kevin Bizier (20-0-0, 14 KO) is set to dispute his second fight in 2013. His opponent, the rugged and experienced Aldo Nazareno Rios (48-6-0, 11 KO) from Argentina, will be looking to capitalize on Bizier’s inactivity. Ranked IBF #3 and WBA #6, Bizier will have his hands full with Rios, who has only been KOed once in 54 fights! Rios’ two defeats by decision in World title fights prove he is a tough contender. This bout is scheduled for 8 rounds.

Zewski vs Samuels

Strong off another eye-popping victory last April 13th in New York, Mikael Zewski (19-0-0, 15 KO), from Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, will reacquaint himself with his Quebec fans on May 25th. His opponent, Derrick Samuels (18-4-1, 5 KO), will have a tough task in front of him. The last time the undefeated Zewski boxed at home, he annihilated his opponent in 37 seconds (Cesar Chavez on November 3rd 2012). Zewski will be looking to make another huge statement on May 25th. This bout is also scheduled for 8 rounds.

Bouchard vs Cotroni Jr: A local fight that promises emotion!

Sebastien Bouchard (6-0-0, 2 KO) from Quebec will face the biggest test of his young career on May 25th. Undefeated in 6 bouts, he will lace the gloves vs. Frank Cotroni Jr. (7-1-0 4 KO) in a bout scheduled for 6 rounds at 154 lbs. The blue chip prospect of the Club Empire Gym of Quebec City is looking at this fight as his spring board into bigger and more meaningful fights. Both boxers have been calling each other out for the last year, which is great news for fight fans!

New good tickets available!

Tickets for Pascal vs. Bute are on sale at the Bell Centre Ticket Office by dialing 1-877-668-8269 or by visiting www.evenko.ca. Tickets are also available at Club de boxe Champion by calling (514) 376-0980. Now that the Bell Centre configuration is complete, new good seats are available for the first time at the ticket office.

Mikkel Kessler media day quotes

mikkel-kessler_21
WBA Super-Middleweight Champion Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KOs) today conducted a media work-out in his gym in Copenhagen, Denmark. On May 25, the Viking Warrior will collide with IBF Champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KOs) in front of a sell-out crowd at the O2 Arena in London. “I defeated him in the first fight and I will defeat him again,” Kessler said. “I don´t mind fighting him in his backyard, true champions fight all over the world. I have fought in Wales, Australia, Germany and the USA, no crowd can intimidate me. I know what I have to do to leave the ring victorious.”

Kessler has been working hard with coach Jimmy Montoya, who has been in Denmark since March. “Mikkel´s in great shape,” Montoya said. “This will be a good, a very hard fight. Carl Froch is a hell of a fighter, but so is Mikkel. You can´t predict knock-outs, they just happen, but let me tell you one thing, Mikkel will win by knock-out!”

Said promoter Kalle Sauerland: “I´ve never seen Mikkel in his fight mode so early before a fight. It´s 33 days until he will be going to war with Froch again. You can see from his mood already now that he will put everything on the line that night. And Mikkel will win again.”

Froch – Kessler II set for May 25th in London

carl-froch_victory
IBF Super Middleweight champion Carl Froch will take on WBC champ Mikkel Kessler in a rematch of their terrific April 2010 fight on May 25th in London according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.

“I promised Carl we would meet again and here we are, getting ready to leave it all in the ring for a second time,” Kessler said last month when the deal was reached. “I have the utmost of respect for Carl. I feel we are very much alike. He is a great champion, a true warrior that has fought the best opponents all over the world in some of the most hostile places, just like me. Our first fight, especially the last round, showed what we are all about and I was (anxious) to do it again.”

“Our first fight was pure warfare,” Froch said last month. “We went at each other for every minute of every round and the rematch promises to be even more fiercely contested. I seriously wish I was ringside myself for this fight, because I’m gunning for revenge at all costs and the fight fans are in for a real treat.”

IBF MANDATORY STATUS MEANS SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION CARL FROCH MUST DEFEND TITLE AGAINST ADONIS STEVENSON PURSE BID SET FOR JANUARY 15

carl-froch_victory
MONTREAL (January 4, 2013) – Finally, after much speculation about his next opponent, International Boxing Federation (IBF) super middleweight Carl “The Cobra” Froch (30-2-0, 22 KOs), of Great Britain, is forced to defend his belt against mandatory contender Adonis “Superman” Stevenson (19-1-0, 16 KOs).

In a letter from IBF representative Lindsey Tucker, dated January 2, 2013, sent to the promoters of Froch and Stevenson, both parties were invited to negotiate and Jan. 15 was imposed as the deadline. If at that time the parties were unable to reach an agreement a purse bid would be held in the IBF offices in New Jersey.

If Froch, for whatever reason, decided to withdraw from this process then it would he removed as champion and Stevenson would be invited to fight for the vacant title against the next highest-ranking available IBF challenger. If Stevenson withdrew he would be excluded from the IBF’s top 10 contenders for six months and the highest-ranked available contender would replace him.

“I’m finally realizing my goal of a world championship fight, facing a great champion like Carl Froch,” Stevenson said about the turn of events. “I know he’s had great victories during his career, particularly against two other Quebec fighters, Jean Pascal and Lucian Bute, but I have all of the tools needed to emerge victorious in a great fight. I would obviously like the fight to take place here in Quebec, but I have no problem winning the title in England, if necessary. ”

“Carl Froch not only has the obligation to fight Adonis Stevenson,” said the president of GYM, Yvon Michel, “but the ‘Superman’ fight is certainly the most profitable, as well as the best alternative for the champion and his only way to keep his IBF title belt. I know Froch’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, wants this fight to take place in England, and he has also sent an interesting offer for a date in May. From our side, we will rally all of Quebec Nation to get behind us and try to convince the Super Six finalist to come here to defend his crown in March or April. We have also sent a very generous offer for this purpose. He had the opportunity to beat Pascal and Bute at his home in Nottingham. Isn’t it his turn to visit us in Quebec?”

Both parties believe that, despite the short time period, an agreement can be negotiated but, if that isn’t the case, then the purse bid action on Jan. 15 would then determine the outcome.

OFFICIAL WEIGHTS ‘True Brit: Froch vs. Mack’ Live Saturday on PPV & GFL

IBF Super Middleweight Championship (12)
CARL FROCH (29-2, 21 KOs), Champion, Nottingham, UK 167 ½ lbs.
vs.
YUSAF MACK (31-4-2, 17 KOs), Challenger, Philadelphia, PA, USA 168 lbs

Froch quotes from today’s official weigh-in: “I’ve trained just as hard for this fight as I did for the Bute fight. The training, the physical side of it: the runs, the groundwork and the sparring, have been just as hard as last time. You’ve got to be in tip-top shape for every single fight, if I turned up 50-percent fit for Mack then I’m probably going to get beat. It’s as simple as that. I can’t just take my foot off the gas and think, ‘Oh, I’ve got an easy fight.’ There’s no such thing as an easy fight, so I turn up fully prepared for whoever I’m fighting.

“This is a World title fight so he’ll come and try to cause an upset. He can punch a bit, because he’s a light heavyweight, so he’s going to probably try to catch me out early on and maybe let a barrage of shots off early. So, I need to be cute, clever and box behind my jab and just find my feet for the first three or four rounds before I close the distance and close that fighting gap and start letting some artillery go.

“I’ve made the mistake in the past of not turning up 100-percent and I nearly came unstuck against Dale Westerman. It was the warm-up fight before I boxed Brian Magee, defending my British title, and it was a hard night’s work. It was tough. It was nine rounds of me getting my head punched in until I closed the show in the ninth. But that was supposed to be an easy walk in the park for me but it was probably one of my hardest fights because I wasn’t fully prepared. I took him lightly. I’m too professional to not take this guy seriously.

“I’ve sparred a lot with Tony Bellew – a World champion in waiting, in my opinion – done some hard, long runs and some hill-work which is very difficult and my groundwork has stepped up a level and I’m feeling it. It builds-up getting harder and harder, until fight week when I take my foot off the gas, recover and then explode tomorrow. I’m going to be ready.”

Froch blasts Mack’s attack ‘True Brit: Froch vs. Mack’ PPV Live Saturday on PPV & FIGHT NOW TV in U. S.

HOBOKEN, N.J. (November 14, 2012) – International Boxing Federation (IBF) super middleweight champion Carl “The Cobra” Froch (29-2, 21 KOs) has warned challenger Yusaf Mack (31-4, 17 KOs) that he will pay for his pre-fight jibes when the pair meet Saturday, headlining the “True Brit” pay-per-view event (in the U.S.), live from Nottingham, United Kingdom.

“True Brit,” presented by Matchroom Boxing, will be distributed in the United States by Integrated Sports Media for live viewing at 3:00 PM/ET – 12:00 PM/PT on both cable and satellite pay-per-view via iN Demand, DIRECTV, DISH Network and Avail-TVN for a suggested retail price of only $29.95.

“True Brit” will also be available to view via online at: http://www.gfl.tv/Events/Fight/Boxing/True_Brit_Froch_vs_Mack/1722.

Mack appeared live on Ringside after the first press conference for the clash and called Froch, “a fake Joe Calzaghe.” The pair came face-to-face again at yesterday’s press conference at the Capital FM Arena, and “The Cobra” told the challenger that he will “face his wrath” in his ninth consecutive World title fight.

“I was just letting him know that he said too much when my back was turned and it might be inside his mind that I’m a bit wound up,” said Froch, a huge 1-18 favorite by Betfair to retain the title and 1-4 to do so inside the distance. “I just wanted him to know he talked a load of rubbish on Ringside about Joe Calzaghe, but he probably spoke without thinking, so I put him right on that.

“I have to put on a good performance, be strong, sharp and confident, put my work together and put educated pressure on him because he could be dangerous. He’s not a big and tall light heavyweight, so he could be better at super middleweight. I’m not taking anything for granted and I am making sure that I do my work right and that will be enough to defend my title in style.”

Mack is a big 15-1 underdog with Betfair to claim Froch’s IBF crown but the Philadelphian is confident that he has “The Cobra” rattled and he will be able to use that to shock the world.

“I got under his skin with the Calzaghe comment and I hope that’s to my advantage on the night,” Mack added. “On Saturday, I’m going to prove that I’m ready for this fight. I’ve lived in the gym and I’ve given myself the chance to show that I am the fighter I can be. I really believe I’m going to be taking the belt home.

“I haven’t come to fight the crowd. I’ll block them out on Saturday and I have nothing to prove to them. Froch has the pressure to impress them, not me; he’s said he’s going to knock me out so the pressure is on him to do that. When I’m still standing there after the sixth round, when people think I’m going to tire, what’s he going to do? I don’t fade and he can’t beat me.”

(Phobo by Lawrence Lustig)

World-rated light heavyweight Tony Bellew (18-1, 12 KOs) takes on South American champion Roberto Bolonti (30-1, 19 KOs) in the 12-round co-feature for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver Championship, which is also an official WBC eliminator to become champion “Bad” Chad Dawson’s mandatory challenger.

Bellew, rated No. 10 by The Ring Magazine, has lost only once as a professional, last year in his only World title challenge fight to undefeated WBO champion Nathan Cleverly in a hotly-contested 12-round majority decision.

Bolonti, who is rated No. 5 by the WBC, as well as No. 10 by the World Boxing Association (WBA) and IBF, is shooting for his 27th consecutive victory, fighting for the first time outside of his native Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The PPV card will also showcase some of Britain’s top, young fighters, including bantamweight prospect Khalid “Kal” Yafai (3-0, 2 KOs), a 2008 Great Britain Olympian, vs. Pro Antonio Nettunio (7-5), lightweight Scott “Scotty” Cardle (5-0, 1 KO) vs. Joe Elfidh (7-2) and, time permitting, highlights from other undercard bouts. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

(November 12, 2012) – Challenger Yusaf Mack broke training camp yesterday in his hometown of Philadelphia and departed for England to fight International Boxing Federation (IBF) super middleweight champion Carl “The Cobra” Froch (29-2, 21 KOs), headlining Saturday night’s (Nov. 17) “True Brit” pay-per-view event (in the U.S.), live from Froch’s hometown in Nottingham, England.

“True Brit,” presented by Matchroom Boxing, is being distributed in the United States by Integrated Sports Media for live viewing at 3:00 PM/ET – 12:00 PM/PT on both cable and satellite pay-per-view via iN Demand, DIRECTV, DISH Network and Avail-TVN for a suggested retail price of only $29.95.

as well as online at:

http://www.gfl.tv/Events/Fight/Boxing/True_Brit_Froch_vs_Mack/1722.

IBF No.5-ranked Mack (31-4, 17 KOs) has been fighting as a light heavyweight for the past five years. He lost his lone world title shot to IBF 175-pound champion Tavoris Cloud by eighth-round technical knockout in 2006.

“I feel good,” Mack said last week from the famed Shuler Gym in Philly. “Training camp has been going real good with sparring partners like Steve Cunningham. I just want to prove I’m a world champion. I’ve been there before and fell short. I will reach my goal this time to be world champion.

“Froch is a good fighter but he’s never fought anybody like me. Once Froch feels my power, he’ll respect me. He won’t be rushing in fighting a bigger, stronger guy like me. I’m going to out-slick him like (Andre) Ward did. He’s got more to prove than me. He’s fighting for his whole country. I have nothing to prove; he has to beat me.”

The PPV card, pending time restrictions, will also showcase some of Britain’s top, young fighters, including bantamweight prospect Khalid “Kal” Yafai (3-0, 2 KOs), a 2008 Great Britain Olympian, vs. Pro Antonio Nettunio (7-5), lightweight Scott “Scotty” Cardle (5-0, 1 KO) vs. Joe Elfidh (7-2), former European middleweight champion Kerry Hope (17-4, 1 KO) in a six-round tune-up vs. Nobert Szekeres, lightweight Martin J. Ward (2-0) vs. Dan Carr, middleweight Ryan “Tank” Aston (7-1, 3 KOs) vs. Tyan Booth (11-6-1, 2 KOs), and featherweight Leigh “Leigh-thal” Wood (4-0, 1 KO) vs. Gavin Reid. Froch Predicts KO Win in ‘True Brit: Froch vs. Mack’ Live Saturday on PPV

HOBOKEN, N.J. (November 8, 2012) — International Boxing Federation (IBF) super middleweight champion Carl “The Cobra” Froch (29-2, 21 KOs) defends his title Saturday, November 17 against American challenger Yusaf Mack (31-4, 17 KOs),headlining the”True Brit” event, which will air in the United States live from Capital FM Arena in Nottingham, United Kingdom.

Froch graciously answered a series of questions about Saturday’s fight against Mack:

Q. You’ve made many fans in the states over the past few years. How does it feel to have this fight airing live in the states?

Froch: “It’s always fantastic to be boxing on US TV. I’ve boxed in the States four times and I’ve always enjoyed myself there. My training camp was in Manhattan (New York City) before the Andre Ward fight. It was tough there because it was getting close to Christmas and it was insanely busy, but my morning run was always great, taking in the New York skyline as I was pounding the streets – incredible.

“I’ve always been well received by American boxing fans. They really know their stuff. I think that they appreciate that I am a good, honest fighter who never backs away from a challenge and always wants to fight the best. Too many fighters try to coast through their careers and don’t test themselves, so I’m glad I’ve had those fights in the States and they were great experiences. And there’s a good chance that there’s still a big fight for me over in America before I hang up the gloves.”

Q. You’ve had an unprecedented run against many of the world’s top fighters, starting with Pascal through your last against Bute. Can you remain as “up” fighting Mack who doesn’t have the same credentials as your last 8 opponents, particularly with a Bute rematch already slated?

Froch: “Absolutely. At this level, and as a World champion, there’s no second in a fight that you can let your guard down and you have to be at 100 percent. I have prepared as hard for this fight as I did for the previous eight world title fights, for my British title fights, for my Commonwealth title fights and for my debut back in 2002.

“If I come unstuck in this fight then everything I have achieved over the last few years will go to waste. People ask me about Lucian Bute, Andre Ward and Mikkel Kessler fights, so I answer their questions. It’s only natural for them to ask; they are fights people want to see, but believe me, I only have Yusaf Mack on my mind.”

Q. Does Mack remind you of any fighter you’ve already fought? What are his strengths?

Froch: “The best thing about this fight is that Yusaf is like nothing I’ve ever fought before and that’s what sport should be – a fresh challenge every time. He’s a natural light heavyweight who is dropping down, so he’s a puncher but also a nice boxer and a mover, too. You don’t get World title shots for no reason. He can more than handle himself in the ring and I know that I have to be completely focused on the fight as this guy is dangerous and he wants to shock the world of boxing by taking my belt, in my hometown.

“So, I’ve got to give this guy respect and take him very seriously because this is his world title fight, and his big opportunity to come over here and cause an upset. I know that he’s going to be training and running harder than ever for this. Whatever you’ve seen of him before, add 20 percent for this fight. I’ve got to be ready, and I will be.”

Q. He has been fighting as a light heavyweight. Is there any concern on your part about Mack possibly being the stronger man?

Froch: “I am stronger than him, no question. I don’t think there’s a super middleweight out there in better shape than me, and there are some super-fit guys in this division. But I can honestly say I feel in incredible shape, fit as I’ve ever been, and I am convinced that he won’t be able to match me for heart, punch power, desire and skill.

“He’ll be bringing that light heavyweight power down to super middle though, I know that. I have to be watchful of him every second that he’s in there. I have been sparring with Tony Bellew for this fight. He is a great sparring partner and a World champion in the making at light heavyweight. He has a tremendous dig on him and we have some great battles in sparring, so I don’t have any issues with whatever Yusaf Mack is going to bring to the table.”

Q. What type of fight do you expect this to be: war, chess match, etc.?

“I expect him to come at me with everything he’s got as he has nothing to lose and everything to gain. He will have seen what I did to Lucian Bute. He knows that if I get into a rhythm, and get my shots off, it’s goodnight. So, he’ll be at me from the start, wanting to make an impression to get me on the back foot, and I’ll be doing the same. It’s going to be a ferocious pace and great to watch.”

Q. Any prediction?

“I’m not one for picking a round, but I think that it’s going to be a knockout night for me again in front of my home fans. Yusaf Mack has never been in an atmosphere like a sold-out Carl Froch show in Nottingham. The viewers are in for a real treat. When my fans get behind me, my punches are that much harder, and he’ll be in real trouble on the night.”

Bellew (18-1, 12 KOs) faces South American champion Roberto Bolonti (30-1, 19 KOs) in the 12-round co-feature for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver light heavyweight championship and an official WBC eliminator.

Bellew Eyes World Title Fight Against Dawson ‘True Brit: Froch vs. Mack’ Live Nov. 17 in U. S. on PPV

HOBOKEN, N.J. (November 6, 2012) – Light heavyweight title contender Tony “The Bomber” Bellew wants to set up a clash with World Boxing Council (WBC) light heavyweight champion “Bad” Chad Dawson, if Bellew beats Roberto Bolonti for the vacant WBC Silver title on the November 17th “True Brit” pay-per-view event, airing live in the United States from Capital FM Arena in Nottingham, England.

“True Brit,” presented by Matchroom Boxing, will be distributed in the U. S. by Integrated Sports Media for live viewing at 3:00 PM/ET – 12:00 PM/PT on both cable and satellite pay-per-view via iN Demand, DIRECTV, DISH Network and Avail-TVN for a suggested retail price of only $29.95.

Bellew believes Dawson is the best light heavyweight in the world and a win over Argentine Bolonti, in the “True Brit” chief support bout to International Boxing Federation (IBF) super middleweight champion Carl Froch’s title defense against Yusaf Mack, should propel Bellew into the WBC top five.

The Liverpool boxer has his sights set on the WBC World title and while he would like to become Dawson’s mandatory challenger, Bellew isn’t ruling out an IBF World title shot against Tavoris Cloud.

“I want to put the pressure on someone like Chad Dawson to face me,” he said. “I am not a lucrative match for people to face and I believe I am maximum risk and minimal reward, so I have to force one of these champions into facing me.

“It might not be a WBC it might be an IBF challenge to Tavoris Cloud, I don’t know which it is going to be but all I want to do is become a mandatory challenger, very similar to the way Kell Brook has done it.

“Roberto Bolonti is another step in the right direction, it is a WBC eliminator and it is for the Silver title. He is number five with the WBC and this should propel one of us into the top three in my opinion, so I am hoping to get fast tracked to the WBC and I have stated for a long time that the WBC is the belt I would like to win. I believe it is the best belt in boxing, so it would be a dream come true.

“I believe Chad Dawson is the best light heavyweight in the world. I know he had the contentious fight with Jean Pascal but I believe he would have stopped Pascal if the fight would have been allowed to carry on, so I think Pascal got really lucky the cut came when it did.

“I do believe that Dawson is the best in the division and aside from him I feel everyone is on a level playing field. Bernard Hopkins, in terms of experience, is up there with Dawson but as an actual fighter I believe Dawson is proven to be the best light heavyweight out there. But I would be happy to fight him. There is now a blueprint to beat Chad Dawson after what Andre Ward did to him, so I would be happy to go in there and carry out what Ward did to him.”

Froch’s last fight at home? ‘True Brit: Froch vs. Mack’ Live Nov. 17 in U. S. on PPV

HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 30, 2012) — With a rematch against former World champion Lucian Bute still on the cards, as well as potential grudge rematches against Andre Ward and Mikkel Kessler in International Boxing Federation (IBF) super middleweight champion Carl “The Cobra’s” Froch’s future, the 34-year-old British favorite admitted that his November 17th title defense against Yusaf Mack, headlining the “True Brit” pay-per-view event (in the U.S.), could be his last fight at home in Nottingham, England.

“If the Bute fight happens,” Froch explained, “it will be in Canada, and rematches with Ward and Kessler could well happen in America and Denmark, so this could well be my last fight in Nottingham.”

Froch and Mack headline an exciting night of boxing on Nov. 17 with Tony Bellew aiming to seal his second World light heavyweight title shot in a World Boxing Council (WBC) title eliminator against Argentine invader Roberto Bolonti.

“True Brit” will also be available to view via Fight Now TV, America’s only 24-hour combat sports and entertainment channel, on Cablevision channel 464 as part of the iO Gold package.

Froch (29-2, 21 KOs), rated by The Ring Magazine as the No. 1 contender in the world, captured the IBF title in his last fight on May 26 with an impressive fifth-round technical knockout of previously undefeated champion Bute (30-1). In the past four years, his last eight fights have been against a Who’s Who of the 168-pound division with victories over Bute, Glen Johnson (DEC12), Arthur Abraham (DEC12), Andre Dirrell (DEC12), Jermain Taylor (TKO12) and Jean Pascal (DEC12). Froch’s only losses were by 12-round decisions to unbeaten World Boxing Council (WBC)/World Boxing Association (WBA) king Ward in the final of the Super Six Tournament, and four-time World champion Kessler during the aforementioned tournament. Seven of his last eight opponents, excluding Dirrell, have been world champion.

IBF No.5-ranked Mack (31-4, 17 KOs) has been fighting as a light heavyweight since 2008. He lost his only world title shot to IBF 175-pound champion Tavoris Cloud by eighth-round technical knockout in 2006.

“I’m in fantastic shape and itching to get in there again,” Froch said. “The Bute fight was special and the best night of my career, but there’s no chance I’ll take my foot off the pedal on November 17. Yusaf is a dangerous customer and he has nothing to lose coming here and everything to gain. Yusaf has fought for a World title at light heavyweight and he is going to be doing everything he can to prove himself at super middleweight.”

Bellew (18-1, 12 KOs) and South American champion Bolonti (30-1, 19 KOs) will fight in the 12-round co-feature, an official WBC eliminator to become champion “Bad” Chad Dawson’s mandatory challenger, with the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver light heavyweight championship on the line.

Bellew, rated No. 10 by The Ring Magazine and No. 14 by the World Boxing Organization (WBO), has lost only once as a professional, last year in his only World title challenge fight to undefeated WBO champion Nathan Cleverly by 12-round majority decision.

Bolonti will be going for his 27th consecutive victory on Nov. 17. Fighting outside of his native Buenos Aires, Argentina for the first time, Bolonti is rated No. 5 by the WBC, No. 10 by the WBA and IBF.

The PPV card, pending time restrictions, will also showcase some of Britain’s top, young fighters, including bantamweight prospect Khalid “Kal” Yafai (3-0, 2 KOs), a 2008 Great Britain Olympian, vs. TBA, lightweight Scott “Scotty” Cardle (5-0, 1 KO) vs. Joe Elfidh (7-2), former European middleweight champion Kerry Hope (17-4, 1 KO) in a six-round tune-up vs. TBA prior to his December 8th showdown with Darren Barker, lightweight Martin J. Ward (2-0) vs. TBA, middleweight Ryan “Tank” Aston (7-1, 3 KOs) vs. Tyan Booth (11-6-1, 2 KOs), and featherweight Leigh “Leigh-thal” Wood (4-0, 1 KO) vs. Gavin Reid (6-16-1, 3 KOs). Froch vows to show he’s on top of the World ‘The Cobra’ meets Yusaf Mack at press conference

HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 12, 2012) — Carl Froch has warned Yusaf Mack that he will be in for a rough night in Nottingham, England when he challenges “The Cobra” for his International Boxing Federation (IBF) super middleweight title in Betfair’s ‘True Brit’ on November 17.

“True Brit” will also be available to view via Fight Now TV, America’s only 24-hour combat sports and entertainment channel, on Cablevision channel 464 as part of the iO Gold package.

Froch welcomed the American light heavyweight champion into his fortress at the Capital FM Arena as Britain’s No. 1 fighter boxes in his ninth consecutive World title fight.

“The Cobra” met Mack for the first time in a press conference at the Arena where five months ago he ripped the IBF title from unbeaten Lucian Bute with a stunning fifth round stoppage. Froch has vowed to put thoughts of a rematch with the Canadian and a future bout with old foe Mikkel Kessler to one side as he prepares for his 15th contest in the Arena against the Philadelphian.

“After beating Lucian I feel like I’m back on top of the World,” said Froch. “I’m in great shape. I’m running faster than ever. I am breaking records in training and I’m surprising myself, so at 35 I feel like I’m at my peak and that there’s plenty more to come.

“People have been asking me when I plan to hang the gloves up – a year, 18 months – I’m not going to out a time frame on it, as long as I have the desire to keep getting up and doing the hard training which I have, then I’m still going to be going.

“He’s coming over to the lion’s den and there’s only going to be one winner – I’ll do whatever I can to put Yusaf Mack on his back.”

Mack fights for a World title for the second time in his career having challenged Tavoris Cloud for the light heavyweight crown last June and promises to give everything on November 17.

“I’m here to give a champion the fight of his life,” said Mack. “Come fight night, its going down. I’m back at my preferred weight and I’m not coming to England to lay down.”

Integrated Sports Media Distributing ‘True Brit: Froch vs. Mack’ Live on PPV Nov. 17 in United States

HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 9, 2012) — Integrated Sports Media, the pound-for-pound king of sports distribution in North America, announced today that it will distribute “True Brit” in the United States, featuring International Boxing Federation (IBF) super middleweight champion Carl “The Cobra” Froch defending against challenger Yusaf Mack, on Saturday afternoon, November 17, live from Capital FM Arena in Nottingham, United Kingdom.

“Carl Froch is one the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world today,” Integrated Sports media president Doug Jacobs said. “He’s also one of the most popular and entertaining boxers who American fans can’t get enough of. His title defense against Yusaf Mack certainly will draw interest from his hometown fans in Philadelphia. The light heavyweight title fight, featuring a pair of world-class fighters, will introduce Britain’s Tony Bellew and Argentina’s Roberto Bolonti to American boxing fans. Integrated Sports is very happy to be delivering ‘True Brit’ in the U.S.”

“I am delighted that ‘True Brit’ will be available in America on pay-per-view and for subscribers of Fight Now TV,” said Froch’s promoter and Matchroom Sport managing director Eddie Hearn. “It’s going to be a fantastic night of boxing in Nottingham, with Froch and Mack leading the way. Carl has a great fan base in the States after some fantastic performances there and his win over Lucian Bute proved he is one of the most exciting sportsmen on the planet. This is a fight not to be missed with a brilliant undercard of young British fighting talent led by Tony Bellew that I know the US fans are going to love to watch.”

Froch (29-2, 21 KOs) captured the IBF title in his last fight, May 26 with a stunning fifth-round technical knockout of previously undefeated champion Lucian Bute (30-1). In his last eight fights, dating back to 2008, Froch has defeated Bute, Glen Johnson (DEC12), Arthur Abraham (DEC12), Andre Dirrell (DEC12), Jermain Taylor (TKO12) and Jean Pascal (DEC12), losing only to unbeaten Andre Ward (DEC12) in the final of the Super Six Tournament and Mikkel Kessler (DEC12). All but Dirrell have been world champion. Froch, who will be fighting in his hometown, is world rated by The Ring Magazine as the No. 1 contender.

Mack (31-4, 17 KOs) has been fighting as a light heavyweight since 2008. He is the reigning United States Boxing Association 175-pound title-holder and rated No. 6 by the IBF. The 32-year-old Mack is a typically tough Philly fighter who lost his only world title shot to IBF light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud by eighth-round technical knockout in 2006. Mack, who was leading on two of three judges’ scorecards after seven rounds (68-65, 67-66, 66-67) against Cloud, has defeated, among the more notables, Omar Sheika, Chris Henry, Daniel Judah. Three of his four career losses have been to world champions – Cloud, Johnson and Alejandro Berrio – and the other to two-time world title challenger Librado Andrade.

UK fan favorite Bellew (18-1, 12 KOs) takes on South American champion Bolonti (30-1, 19 KOs) in the 12-round co-feature for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver light heavyweight championship and an official WBC eliminator.

Bellew, rated No. 10 by The Ring Magazine and No. 14 by the World Boxing Organization (WBO), is coming off of impressive back-to-back victories over Edison Miranda (TKO9) and Danny McIntosh (TKO5), following Bellew’s only career to undefeated WBO champion Nathan Cleverly last year by 12-round majority decision.

Bolonti (30-1, 19 KOs) is riding a 26-fight winning streak into his Nov. 17 fight with Bellew. The Argentinean will be fighting outside of his native Buenos Aires, Argentina for the first time. He is rated No. 7 by the WBC, as well as No. 10 by the World Boxing Association (WBA) and IBF.

The entire PPV card, pending time restrictions, will also showcase some of Britain’s top prospects such as lightweights Scott “Scotty” Cardle (5-0, 1 KO) and Martin J. Ward (2-0), in separate bouts, bantamweight Khalid “Kal” Yafai (3-0, 2 KOs), middleweight Ryan “Tank” Aston (7-1, 3 KOs), and featherweight Leigh “Leigh-thal” Wood (4-0, 1 KO). All fights and fighters are subject to change.

Froch, Bute to rematch in 2013 after interim bouts

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, IBF Super Middleweight champion Carl Froch and the man he beat Lucian Bute will meet in a rematch next year after they each take interim bouts this fall.

Froch stopped Bute in round five on May 26 in Froch’s hometown of Nottingham, England and rematch will take place in Bute’s adopted hometown of Montreal.

“Froch versus Bute has already gone down as one of the greatest nights in British boxing history,” said Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn. “It generated record television audiences and a sold-out arena where fans were treated to what many respected pundits and fighters have described as one of the best atmospheres ever felt in a British fight. Of course, like any fighter, Lucian is keen to avenge this defeat and, as per our agreement, has the opportunity to try to make that happen.

“Both myself and Lucian’s promoter, Jean Bedard (of InterBox) feel that it is in the best interests of both fighters and any future rematch that both fighters will take an interim fight later this year. Froch versus Bute II in Montreal is a massive event and I’m sure that impressive victories for both men later this year will add further fuel to the fire.”

“We will be looking to announce an opponent for Carl in the next few weeks for another big fight in the U.K.,” he said.

“That was not the real Lucian Bute in that Nottingham ring on May 26,” said Bute, who had made nine defenses before being cut down by Froch. “I spent the last few weeks reflecting about what went wrong, what happened, and the only thing that is crystal clear in my mind is that I want my rematch with Carl Froch as soon as possible.”

Said Bedard, “There is no hiding the fact that the result on May 26 was hard on everyone. But even in defeat, in the locker room after the fight and the days following the loss, I still felt Lucian had the fire in his belly to come back stronger and demand his rematch with Froch. Matchroom is a great organization to work with and I have been speaking to Eddie once or twice a week since May 26. I almost know his number by heart.”
