CLEVELAND, Ohio (June 26, 2026) — Abdullah Mason’s Cleveland homecoming will now come with an all-Ohio twist.

After former world champion Joe Cordina was forced to withdraw due to a visa issue, unbeaten Toledo native and WBO No. 6-ranked contender Albert Bell has stepped in to challenge Mason for the WBO lightweight world title on Saturday, July 4, at Cleveland State University’s Wolstein Center.

Mason-Bell headlines TNT Sports and DAZN’s inaugural The Fight event, a new monthly live boxing series, and will be broadcast co-exclusively in the U.S. on TNT, truTV and DAZN and worldwide on DAZN.

The Mason-Bell, Bruce Carrington-Rene Palacios, Tiger Johnson-Christopher Guerrero and Scooter Davis-Carlos Ramos fights will be broadcast LIVE beginning at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

Mason said, “New opponent, same mission. Much respect to Albert Bell for stepping in. Everyone, show up to the Wolstein for my title defense. Appetite for smoke!”

Bell said, “The opportunity was presented, I said yes. If you know my story, it’s been a long road.”

Mason (20-0, 17 KOs) completed one of boxing’s fastest recent climbs last November, dominating previously unbeaten Sam Noakes in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to become a world champion less than five months shy of his 22nd birthday. Mason turned pro at 17 in 2021 following an amateur career of approximately 80 fights and surged into title contention in 2025 with three consecutive stoppages. He opened the year with a fourth-round knockout of Manuel Jaimes in February, stopped Carlos Ornelas in the sixth round in April, and blasted out Namibian veteran Jeremia Nakathila in the fifth round in June before the Noakes win.

Bell (28-0, 9 KOs) was scheduled to face Cuban Olympic gold medalist Andy Cruz in an IBF lightweight world title final eliminator on July 18 in Carson, California. Instead, the unbeaten Ohioan now gets his first world title opportunity two weeks earlier against Mason. The 33-year-old returns following a 10-round unanimous decision over Keith Hunter last August in his hometown.

Abdullah Mason Returns Home for Lightweight World Title Defense against Joe Cordina July 4 at Cleveland State University’s Wolstein Center

CLEVELAND (May 5, 2026) — Boxing’s youngest world champion is set to make his first defense in front of a hometown crowd on the 250th anniversary of American independence as part of TNT Sports and DAZN’s inaugural The Fight event, a new monthly live boxing series.

Abdullah Mason will defend his WBO lightweight world title against Welsh former world champion Joe Cordina on Saturday, July 4 at Cleveland State University’s Wolstein Center.

The Fight: Mason vs. Cordina will be broadcast on TNT and DAZN co-exclusively in the US and on DAZN Worldwide.

In the co-feature, Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington puts his WBC featherweight world title on the line against Mexico’s Rene Palacios.

Additionally, Cleveland native and U.S. Olympian Tiger Johnson takes on fellow unbeaten Christopher Guerrero in a 10-round welterweight battle.

And undefeated lightweight knockout artist Deric “Scooter” Davis (11-0, 10 KOs) returns in an eight-round clash against Carlos Ramos (18-4-1, 10 KOs).

The Mason-Cordina, Carrington-Palacios, Tiger-Guerrero and Davis-Ramos fights will be broadcast LIVE beginning at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Matchroom Boxing, tickets go on sale Friday, May 8, at 12 p.m. ET via Ticketmaster.com.

“This is a major moment for Abdullah Mason as he makes the first defense of his world title in front of his hometown fans,” said Top Rank President Todd duBoef. “Joe Cordina is a proven former world champion with the Olympic and professional experience to take him into deep waters. With Bruce Carrington defending his crown and Cleveland’s Tiger Johnson returning home as well, each against unbeaten contenders, this will be a special Independence Day celebration for the city and a fitting launch of TNT Sports and DAZN’s The Fightseries.”

Mason (20-0, 17 KOs) rose quickly from prospect to world champion. Following an amateur career of roughly 80 bouts, he debuted at 17 in November 2021. Four years later, he captured the WBO crown by dominating unbeaten Sam Noakes last November in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That triumph capped a breakout 2025 that began with a fourth-round stoppage of Manuel Jaimes in February, followed by a sixth-round TKO over Carlos Ornelas in April, and a fifth-round destruction of Namibian veteran Jeremia Nakathila in June.

Mason said, “July 4th is the homecoming that my brothers and I have been anticipating since before we turned pro. I’m ready to experience all of my city’s support in one building, and I have an appetite for smoke. So if you love boxing and you’re ready for some smoke, then the Wolstein on July 4th is the place to be. It’s a cookout at the Wolstein, and the clock is ticking. You’re all invited to your world champion’s first homecoming, and you don’t want to miss it.”

Cordina (19-1, 9 KOs) enters his third lightweight assignment seeking a world title in a second weight class. The 34-year-old scored a highlight reel second-round knockout over Kenichi Ogawa to win the IBF title at 130 pounds in 2022 but was stripped before his first defense due to a hand injury. He regained it with a decision over Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov in 2023 before losing it to Anthony Cacace last May following a controversial knockdown after a punch during the break. The 2016 Olympian has since recorded victories over Jaret Gonzalez Quiroz and Gabriel Flores Jr. in Flores’ hometown.

Cordina said, “This is a massive test for me, but this it’s one that I’m more than capable of coming through with flying colors. Abdullah Mason is a very good fighter, and he’s going to do big things in boxing, but I’m going to mess up the homecoming. I’m looking to come over, rip the title away from him, and take it back to the U.K. It’s a massive fight for boxing, and I’m looking to become a three-time, two-weight world champion.”

“This is such a great fight,” said Eddie Hearn, Chairman of Matchroom Sport. “Abdullah is a tremendous talent and a real star for the future, but Joe has been there, done it and got the t-shirt. Joe showed in California that he’s not afraid to fight in hostile territory and that he still has plenty left in the tank at the top level, and this is a massive chance for him to become a two-weight World champion. This is yet another fantastic fight on DAZN made by Top Rank and Matchroom, and this year, the Fourth of July fireworks will be coming from the Welsh Wizard.”

Carrington (17-0, 10 KOs) is Brownsville, Brooklyn’s latest world champion, following a path once traveled by the likes of Mike Tyson and Zab Judah. A four-year pro, his 2025 campaign produced a third-round stoppage of Jose Enrique Vivas in March and a unanimous points verdict over Mateus Heita in July to win the WBC interim title before becoming full champion with a brutal ninth-round stoppage of Carlos Castro in January. Palacios (19-0-1, 10 KOs) is a rugged Mexican contender who earned his first title opportunity with a decision win over common opponent Sulaiman Segawa.

Carrington said, “The Shu Shu Show is coming to Ohio for the first title defense! It’s The Shu World Order!”

Palacios said. “I’m very excited because, thank God, I now have the opportunity to fight for a world title. I’m not going to let this opportunity slip away. I made a promise to my mother that one day I would become a world champion, and I’m going to keep it. I know Carrington is a great fighter, and he’s proven that, but this time he’s facing someone different from what he saw against Sagawa.”

Tiger (17-0, 8 KOs) represented the U.S. at the 2020 Olympics and signed with Top Rank in November 2021. As a super lightweight, he compiled 14 wins before moving up to welterweight last year, where he registered wins over Kendo Castañeda and Tarik Zaina before delivering his most significant result to date, a fourth-round TKO of Nicklaus Flauz in November. Guerrero (16-0, 9 KOs is a Mexican born resident of Montreal, Canada who makes his U.S. debut after going 4-0 with two knockouts in 2025.

Tiger said, “We’re bringing fireworks to the Land of the Heartless. I’ve been waiting to fight at home for years, and I can’t wait to show out on July 4. Cleveland knows what I bring every time I step in the ring, and this is my moment to put my stamp on the city. I’m ready to represent the 216 and let everybody know who the next world champion from Cleveland is going to be.”

Guerrero said, “This is the moment I’ve been waiting for my whole life. It’s long overdue. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not here to collect a paycheck. I’m here to take what’s mine.”

Undercard action will feature two of Mason’s brothers in separate four-round fights, as Abdurrahman Mason(2-0, 2 KOs) sees action in a lightweight contest and Ibrahim Mason (2-0, 2 KOs) competes in a super featherweight bout.

Mayer Decisions Spencer to Become Unified 154 lb. Champion

Mikaela Mayer won the WBA/WBC/WBO super welterweight titles with a 10-round unanimous decision over Mary Spencer at Montreal Casino in Montreal, Canada.

Mayer was the more active fighter as she came out from the opening bell unleashing heavy combinations. She seemed to do that round after round with the bigger Spencer landing some good shots but they were one at a time. Mayer, who was a champion at 130, 135 (interim) and is currently the WBO Welterweight title adds more hardware to her trophy case as she won by scores of 100-90 and 98-92 twice.

Mayer, 151 lbs of Colorado Springs, CO is 22-2. Spencer, 152.8 lbs of Montreal is 10-3.

“Usually, I’m the taller fighter. But because I’m the taller fighter, I also know how to beat me. And it’s never good when you’re the taller fighter and you let the other fighter get underneath.”

“So, I knew I had to come up underneath Mary Spencer and just come over the top with the big hooks. That’s what we trained for, and you saw me towards the last three rounds of the fight, really landing those big right and left hooks to the head.”

“I think the most important thing is I have options. That’s great in boxing. You always want options. I came off two years where my career kind of took a left turn. I had to navigate my way back to this position. So having options is definitely a blessing.”

“I’ll have to go back and go over things my team. I would love to defend both belts. I can go back to 147, become undisputed there, and maybe come back up and defend at 154.”

“I think I’m a natural 147-pounder. Mary Spencer is a strong, solid opponent. Props to her. She didn’t have to take this fight. She took a big risk taking on a fighter like me. And I always come forward and put on tough fights, so props to her.”

“She’s a heavy-handed girl. And 154 is different. But I think that was a great experience for me, and I can do both. I can do both, so we’ll have to see what is the best option we have.”

In round three, Mathieu rocked Phinn with a hard right and then dropped Phinn with a right to the head.

Asanau, Spencer, and Guerrero: Three Championship Fights on April 10 in Montreal!

MONTRÉAL, March 7, 2025 — April 10 at the Cabaret du Casino de Montréal will be a night of firsts. For the first time as the main event, Dzmitry Asanau will defend his Continental Americas title, Mary Spencer will make her first world title defense, and Christopher Guerrero will compete in the first championship fight of his career. Kicking off the night, Canadian Olympic medalist Wyatt Sanford and junior amateur world champion Erik Israyelyan will make their highly anticipated professional debuts.

Leading the charge, WBC Continental Americas lightweight champion Dzmitry Asanau will defend his title for the first time in his debut as a main event, taking on former European champion Francesco Patera. The event, starting at 6:30 p.m., will be broadcast live on Punching Grace and ESPN+.

“It’s exciting to defend my belt for the first time because it represents my continued rise in the division. It’s also a true privilege to do so as the main event of a gala. I want to thank my team for believing in me, and I plan to reward EOTTM’s fans in attendance on April 10 with a great performance,” said the two-time Olympian and 14th-ranked contender in the world, Dzmitry Asanau.

Back in November, the Belarusian-born and UAE-adopted fighter Dzmitry Asanau (9-0, 4 KOs) claimed the WBC Continental Americas title in style, stopping Argentine puncher Matias Rueda in the fifth round—a performance voted “Fight of the Night” by fans. However, on April 10, the man nicknamed “The Wasp” will face a seasoned road warrior known for pulling off upsets abroad.

Francesco Patera (30-5, 11 KOs) won the Belgian national title in 2015 and has since found success on the international stage. In 2017, he shocked Edis Tatli in Finland to become European champion. The following year, he handed England’s Lewis Ritson his first career loss in the UK to reclaim the European title. After three successful defenses and winning the WBO Intercontinental and WBO Global titles, he faced current super lightweight world champion Keyshawn Davis. To this day, Patera remains one of the few fighters to have gone the distance with the American sensation. A victory over Patera could be a defining moment for Asanau, as Davis found himself in a world championship fight less than 20 months after facing the Belgian fighter.

In the co-main event, WBA welterweight world champion Mary Spencer (9-2, 6 KOs) will defend her title against experienced Venezuelan Ogleidis Suarez (31-5-1, 15 KOs), who will be aiming for her third world title in a third weight class. This fight was originally scheduled as the co-main event on March 14 before an injury led to the cancellation of the event.

“The date has changed, but the goal remains the same. The bad news for my opponent is that I’ll be even better prepared on April 10,” said Canadian Olympian Mary Spencer, who is now training in Windsor under former world champion Kara Ro.

On the undercard, world contender Christopher Guerrero (13-0, 8 KOs) will fight in his first-ever championship bout this spring against hard-hitting Mexican Oliver Quintana (22-3, 16 K.-O.). Already ranked 15th by the IBF at welterweight, the charismatic Montreal fighter will have the chance to break into a second top-15 ranking as he competes for the WBC Continental Americas title.

“Honestly, I screamed when I found out. I pushed my coach Giuseppe Moffa, jumped into Marc Ramsay’s arms, and nearly broke everything in the office! Fighting for a title is a dream come true, but the ultimate goal is a world championship, so get used to seeing me with belts around my waist in the coming years. I’m already in the top 15, but the real climb starts on April 10,” said Christopher “Machine Gun” Guerrero.

Originally scheduled for March 14, Quebec-based super lightweight prospect Jhon Orobio (12-0, 11 KOs) will face the toughest test of his young career. Selected as one of The Ring Magazine’s “Rookies of the Year,” “El Tigre” will take on veteran Argentine Sebastian Aguirre (19-6, 12 KOs) in an eight-round fight. Aguirre is well known to local boxing fans, having fought 27 rounds in Quebec against Luis Santana, Steve Claggett, and Mazlum Akdeniz.

Nicknamed “King Cogne,” Alexandre Gaumont (12-0, 8 KOs) will also face a tough test on April 10. The pride of Buckingham will go head-to-head with France’s Mathis Lourenco (13-5-3, 6 KOs) in an eight-round bout. Lourenco, a former French champion, has proven his competitiveness in every outing, including a draw against Marseille’s Bruno Surace, an undefeated fighter who shocked the boxing world by knocking out Jaime Munguia last December.

In another scheduled eight-round fight, EOTTM’s 2025 Prospect of the Year, Moreno Fendero (9-0, 7 KOs), will make his second appearance of the year.

Another highly anticipated debut for Canadian boxing fans: Wyatt Sanford, bronze medalist at the last Olympic Games and the first Canadian to reach the podium in nearly 30 years, will also make his professional debut. The pride of Kennetcook, Nova Scotia, joined EOTTM last January, but on April 10, he will officially step into the professional ranks.

“I’m super excited to continue doing what I love most, now as a professional. Fans can expect to same calm but aggressive presence in the ring that brought me success in Olympic boxing,” said Wyatt Sanford, EOTTM’s newest recruit.

Finally, Quebec fans will also get their first look at Erik Israyelyan, who will make his professional debut on April 10. Signed in 2023, the 21-year-old Armenian recently moved to Montréal. With his new team, led by Samuel Décarie-Drolet, the junior amateur world champion is ready to begin his quest for a professional title.

“He’s a pressure fighter with power and explosiveness! Some fans may even find that his style resembles that of former world champion Leonard Dorin,” said Samuel Décarie-Drolet, whose protégé will compete in the super lightweight division.

Tickets for the #AsanauPatera event, taking place April 10 at the Cabaret du Casino de Montréal, are available now on Ticketmaster (HERE). Photos from the latest fights of Dzmitry Asanau, Mary Spencer, Christopher Guerrero and the undercard fighters are also available (HERE).
