Strictly Business: Lightweight Champion Denys Berinchyk to Defend Crown Against Keyshawn Davis February 14 at The Theater at Madison Square Garden LIVE on ESPN

NEW YORK CITY (Jan. 7, 2025) — The prince of the lightweight division is coming to The Big Apple looking to unseat the king.

WBO world champion Denys Berinchyk will make the first defense of his title against the undefeated fighting pride of Norfolk, Virginia, Keyshawn Davis, on Friday, Feb. 14, at The Theater at Madison Square Garden.

In the 10-round junior middleweight co-feature, Puerto Rican standout Xander Zayas steps up against fellow unbeaten Slawa Spomer.

And, in the 10-round televised opener, New Jersey-born middleweight Vito “White Magic” Mielnicki Jr. looks to upend undefeated, world-ranked contender Connor “The Kid” Coyle.

Berinchyk-Keyshawn, Zayas-Spomer, and Mielnicki-Coyle will be broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN Deportes, and ESPN+ at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

Promoted by Top Rank, in association with K2 Promotions and Queensberry Promotions, tickets go on sale Thursday, Jan. 9 at 12 p.m. ET via Ticketmaster.com.

“Keyshawn Davis has everything it takes to be a modern-day great, but he must first defeat an unbeaten, determined Ukrainian champion in Denys Berinchyk. This has all the makings of a lightweight classic in New York City,” said Top Rank Chairman Bob Arum. “Xander Zayas is facing a tough, undefeated kid in Slawa Spomer, an excellent test for our Puerto Rican star as he nears a world title shot. And with Vito Mielnicki Jr. facing unbeaten Irishman Connor Coyle, we have a sensational tripleheader in store for the fans at The Theater at Madison Square Garden and watching live on ESPN.”

Berinchyk (19-0, 9 KOs) spent nearly a decade on the Ukrainian national team as an amateur, where his teammates included pound-for-pound great Vasiliy Lomachenko and two-weight undisputed king Oleksandr Usyk. He won the European title in December 2022 on the Tyson Fury-Derek Chisora 3 undercard, notching a decision over Yvan Mendy. Eight months later, he bested Anthony Yigit on the Usyk-Daniel Dubois bill in Poland, earning him a crack at Emanuel Navarrete for the vacant WBO lightweight world title. He stunned the ferocious Mexican warrior last May, tallying a split decision at Pechanga Arena San Diego. For his first title defense, Berinchyk will play the role of underdog once more, attempting to derail the Davis locomotive.

“I’m not going to make any big statements or shower my opponent with compliments,” Berinchyk said. “I’ll just say one thing: Don’t relax, dude! It won’t be an easy fight for you!”

Davis (12-0, 8 KOs) ascended to the WBO No. 1 ranking in less than four years as a pro, showcasing the skills that made him the most accomplished American amateur of his generation. He graduated to 10-rounders in 2023, knocking out Yigit and dominating former European champion Francesco Patera to start the year. The only blemish on his record — an October 2023 decision victory over Nahir Albright that changed to a no-contest after a positive marijuana test — proved to be a minor speed bump. He stopped former two-division world champion Jose Pedraza in February and overcame Mexican puncher Miguel Madueño over 10 one-sided rounds in July. Davis authored a career-best performance last November, starching Gustavo Lemos in two rounds in front of 10,568 fans at a sold-out Scope Arena in Norfolk.

“This is the opportunity I’ve been waiting for. Denys Berinchyk called me out, and I answered,” Davis said. “A new era in the lightweight division begins on February 14th. Be there in person or watch it live on ESPN because what I’m going to do must be seen to be believed.”

Zayas (20-0, 12 KOs), the WBO No. 1 contender, spent 2024 fighting at The Theater. He headlined Puerto Rican Day Parade Weekend in June, coasting past former world champion Patrick Teixeira over 10 rounds. Three months later, as the co-feature to the Sandy Ryan-Mikaela Mayer main event, he shut out Mexico’s Damian Sosa. The San Juan native signed with Top Rank at 16, made his pro debut as a 17-year-old in 2019, and currently holds a pair of regional titles.

Spomer (20-0, 11 KOs) has beaten three undefeated prospects in his career. In October 2023, the German puncher blew away highly touted French standout Milan Prat in 10 rounds. Spomer returned 13 months later and picked up a first-round TKO over Adam Ngange in Dubai.

“Since I was a kid, I always dreamed of making New York City my second home, and it fills me with pride to know that with a lot of effort and sacrifice, little by little, we have been receiving more and more love from my Puerto Ricans from ‘The Big Apple,’” Zayas said. “Fighting in front of my people at Madison Square Garden is always a great honor, and I can’t wait to give them a great night of boxing on February 14. I will show I am ready to challenge for a world title at 154 pounds. I will not back down!”

Spomer said, “I’ve been waiting for an opportunity like this my whole life. It’s time to show the world that I belong at the top of the sport.”

The 22-year-old Mielnicki (20-1, 12 KOs) makes his middleweight debut and is riding a 12-fight winning streak. The Garden State’s rising star signed with Top Rank last year and made his promotional debut in August with a second-round disqualification win over Laszlo Toth. He returned in September at The Theater and secured a majority decision over Khalil El Harraz. Coyle (21-0, 9 KOs), a world-ranked Irishman, is a 34-year-old veteran who turned pro in 2016 following a well-traveled amateur run. He made three defenses of a regional title from 2022-2023 and picked up his lone victory of 2024 in August with an eight-round decision over Kyle Lomotey in Barnsley, England. Coyle is no stranger to “road warrior” status, as he’s 18-0 on North American soil.

The ESPN+-streamed undercard is scheduled to include the following bouts:

  • Dominican-born welterweight contender Rohan Polanco (14-0, 9 KOs) continues his march towards a world title against Puerto Rico’s Jean Carlos Torres (22-1, 17 KOs) in a 10-rounder. Polanco represented his homeland at the Tokyo Olympics and has knocked out four of his last five foes. Torres has won three bouts since a 2021 stoppage defeat to Darwin Price.

  • Rising lightweight Abdullah Mason (16-0, 14 KOs) will make his 2025 debut against Manuel Jaimes (16-2-1, 11 KOs) in an eight-rounder. The Cleveland-born Mason fought five times in 2024, stopping all his opponents in four rounds or less. Jaimes lost a 10-round decision to former world champion Rolando Romero last September.

  • Cleveland’s Tiger Johnson (14-0, 6 KOs), an Olympic teammate of Davis’ in Tokyo, will face Cincinnati native Quashawn Toler (17-3, 12 KOs) in an eight-round welterweight battle for Ohio supremacy. This marks the fourth straight appearance at The Theater for Johnson, who went 3-0 with one knockout in 2024. In September, he won an eight-round decision over Yomar Alamo.

  • Middleweight prospect Nico Ali Walsh (11-1, 5 KOs), the grandson of “The Greatest,” will face an opponent to be named in a six-rounder. Ali Walsh avenged the lone loss of his career last June, overcoming a dislocated shoulder to win a unanimous decision over Sona Akale.

Coyle, 17-0 (7 KO’s), risks his NABA middleweight crown in a ten rounder versus veteran Sladan Janjanin, 34-13 (24 KO’s). Ranked #10 by the WBA, Coyle is inching closer to a big fight on the world stage.

“As the boxing world knows, Connor was going to face Felix Cash as part of a huge event in October but the card was cancelled,” said Caliguire. “If Connor takes care of business against Janjanin, we’re looking to match him with a top ranked opponent next year.”

Coyle-Janjanian takes place prior to the CBS Sports Network telecast.

Both fighters train out of Pinellas Park, FL under Florida Boxing Hall of Famer Jim McLaughlin.

The WBA KO Drugs Fight Night is promoted by Boxlab Promotions and features nine title bouts.

Coyle to defend NABA title December 11 in Orlando

Orlando, FL (November 7, 2022) – NABA middleweight champion Connor “The Kid” Coyle will defend his title against knockout artist Anibal Cleto Francisco in a battle of unbeatens Sunday, December 11 at the Caribe Royale in Orlando.

The card takes place during the WBA’s annual Centennial Convention, which is held at the Caribe Royale from December 11-14.

A native of Derry, Northern Ireland who trains out of Pinellas Park, FL Coyle’s 17-0 with 7 knockouts. Coyle became the NABA champion this past May when he earned a hard-fought decision against Antonio Todd. He was slated to face Felix Cash October 8 in England but the entire card was cancelled after main event participant Conor Benn failed a drug test.

Hailing from Monte Plata, Dominican Republic, Francisco’s 10-0 with 9 of his victories coming by KO. On July 2, the 22-year-old stopped Yeison Gonzalez in the fifth round to capture the WBA Fedelatin title.

“After the disappointment surrounding the cancellation of Connor’s fight in England, we wanted to find a good opportunity,” said Coyle’s promoter Jody Caliguire of Fire Fist Boxing Promotions. “The WBA Centennial Convention is a great event and Connor loves fighting at the Carribe Royale because he’s got a big fan base in Central Florida. He’s already back in the US preparing with Jim McLaughlin for this fight and is planning to put on a great show December 11.”

The card is promoted by Boxlab Promotions.

More information on the card including ticket and broadcast details will be announced shortly.

Team Coyle Reflects on October 8 Fight Cancellation

Tampa, FL (October 11, 2022) – On Saturday October 8, Connor “The Kid” Coyle expected to be fighting a ten round contest against fellow unbeaten world rated middleweight Felix Cash at the O2 Arena in London.

Coyle-Cash was scheduled to be the co-main event to the Chris Eubank Jr.-Conor Benn matchup, which would air worldwide on DAZN. It was the biggest fight of Coyle’s career but one he was without question ready for.

A native of Northern Ireland, Coyle traveled more than 4000 miles to begin an intense training camp with head trainer Jim McLaughlin in Pinellas Park, FL. To ensure he was sharp as possible, Coyle fought on September 17. He won easily via eight round decision then continued preparing for Cash until the completion of his Camp September 30.

On October 2, Coyle, McLaughlin, promoter Jody Caliguire of Fire Fist Boxing Promotions and the rest of his team landed in London.

Mentally and physically, Coyle was prepared for the most important fight of his career. This was until shocking news sent everything into a tailspin.

On Wednesday, October 5, it was revealed that Conor Benn failed a drug test administered by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency (VADA). The banned substance, Clomiphene, is primarily recognized as a female fertility drug but can increase testosterone production and boost androgen, a male hormone that contributes to muscle mass.

Benn did however pass a separate test by the UK Anti-Doping Agency (UKAD) and all parties appeared ready to move forward. Ultimately, the British Boxing Board of Control (BBB of C) refused to sanction the fight, stating it was not in the sport’s best interest. On Thursday, October 6, Matchroom Boxing and Wasserman Boxing announced the cancellation of the entire event.

“This was a major disappointment for our team,” said Caliguire. “Connor Coyle made incredible sacrifices to be prepared as possible for Felix Cash on October 8. Conor Benn’s failed test ultimately led to the cancellation of the entire event. This impacted every other fighter and their teams that put in the hard work so they could perform at the highest level for such a big event. Team Coyle is hoping to reschedule the fight against Cash as soon as possible.”

Coyle and Falcao win in Tampa

Tampa, FL (September 19, 2022) – NABA middleweight champion Connor “The Kid” Coyle and super middleweight boogeyman Yamaguchi “The Problem” Falcao of Fire Fist Boxing Promotions both scored eight round unanimous decision victories Saturday, September 17 at Alessi Fitness Center in Tampa, FL.

Fighting in front of a large and vocal group of supporters, Coyle met 68 fight veteran Silverio Ortiz of Mexico.

Ranked 9th in the world by the WBA, Coyle peppered Ortiz with a consistent jab and straight hands. The shorter Ortiz attempted to close the gap and bully Coyle but was mostly unsuccessful. When the fight was fought in close range, Coyle landed clean shots and blocked most of what was coming back his way.

Quickly tiring and visibly frustrated, Ortiz threw hard hooks to Coyle’s head but didn’t land anything of note. In the final round, Coyle finished strong and hurt Ortiz with a left hook, but the game veteran finished the fight on his feet.

Scores were 80-72 and 79-73 twice for Coyle, a Northern Ireland native who trains out of Pinellas Park, FL.

With the victory, Coyle improves to 17-0 (7 KO’s). Ortiz, who’s faced countless top-rated opponents, slips to 37-32 with 18 KO’s.

“Ortiz was a very rough and tough veteran, but Connor dominated him from bell to bell,” said Jody Caliguire of Fire Fist Boxing Promotions. “It was good to see Connor stay busy as we are anticipating a significant fight in the very near future.”

Coyle’s next bout will be announced shortly.

2012 Olympic Bronze Medalist Yamaguchi “The Problem” Falcao picked up an entertaining eight round victory over ultra-rugged Argentine Abel Nicolas Adriel.

Falcao, a native of Brazil who resides in Florida, got off to a fast start and buzzed Adriel in the opening round. The skilled southpaw controlled the four rounds, displaying excellent speed and pure boxing skills while also mixing in a bit of showmanship.

Adriel picked up the pace in the second half of the fight and had his moments, but Falcao’s consistent work earned him a unanimous decision.

Falcao’s record improves to 22-1-1 with 9 knockouts. Adriel, who displayed a great chin and incredible will, slips to 26-25-3 with 5 KO’s.

“This was the perfect tune up fight for Yama,” said Caliguire. “He’s working on a lot of things with (head trainer) Jim McLaughlin and Adriel made him work. The last 5 years, Yama’s been calling for the best at 160 and now at 168 so its only up from here.”

Falcao returns to the ring October 29 and details will be announced shortly.

A native of Northern Ireland, Coyle lives part time in Pinellas Park, FL, where he trains under Florida Boxing Hall of Famer Jim McLaughlin. In his most recent bout, Coyle defeated crafty contender Antonio Todd to capture the NABA belt.

Fighting out of Yucatan, Mexico, Ortiz’ professional ledger is 37-31 with 18 KO’s. A pro for more than two decades, Ortiz battled many champions and contenders including Jorge Paez, Steve Forbes, David Diaz, Hernan Ngoudjo, Humberto Soto, Pablo Cano, Radzhab Butaev and Charles Conwell.

“I’m glad we’ve got Connor’s opponent locked in,” said Coyle’s promoter, Jody Caliguire of Fire Fist Boxing Promotions. “Ortiz is a very tough veteran who’s beaten several good fighters, so Connor cannot take him lightly! If everything goes according to plan on September 17, we’ll be moving onto bigger fights.”

Fire Fist Boxing’s Falcao and Coyle to return September 17

Tampa, FL (August 8, 2022) – Fire Fist Boxing Promotions’ Yamaguchi Falcao and Connor “The Kid” Coyle will appear in separate eight round contests Saturday, September 17 at the Alessi Fitness Center in Tampa, FL.

Born and raised in Brazil but currently residing in Florida, Falcao is 21-1-1 with 9 knockouts. In his last bout, Falcao became the NABA super middleweight champion by defeating Damian Bonelli via ten round unanimous decision. Ranked #16 in the world by the WBC, Falcao’s known as one of boxing’s most avoided fighters and repeatedly expressed his eagerness to face the world’s best super middleweights.
Coyle with his new NABA middleweight title

Hailing from Derry, Northern Ireland and fighting out of Pinellas Park, FL, Coyle’s 16-0 with 7 KO’s. On May 21, Coyle earned his biggest victory to date, a spirited decision over Antonio Todd for the NABA middleweight championship. Currently rated #10 by the WBA, Coyle’s goal is to fight for a world title in 2023.

“It is important that we keep Yama and Connor in the ring so they can stay sharp as they await bigger opportunities,” said Jody Caliguire of Fire Fist Boxing Promotions. “I’d like to thank Alessi Promotions for helping put this together and we’re expecting a nice crowd. Both fighters are in the gym working hard with their trainer Jim McLaughlin so they can be prepared for September 17.”

Fire Fist Boxing Update: Coyle enters world rankings, Falcao Out with Injury, Silva ready to return

Tampa, FL (June 3, 2022) – Fire Fist Boxing Promotions’ Connor “The Kid” Coyle earned a top 15 world rating after winning the NABA middleweight crown Saturday, May 21 in Orlando, FL.

Coyle powered past a very tricky foe in Antonio Todd. As seen on Bally Sports Network, the Florida based Irishman’s aggressive style earned him a well-deserved split decision victory.

The 32-year-old Coyle is 16-0 with 7 wins by knockout and is rated #13 by the World Boxing Association.

“We’re extremely proud of Connor,” said Jody Caliguire of Fire Fist Boxing Promotions. “Todd was a really difficult style and a great test for Connor. There’s still work to be done but we anticipate him being in a big fight in the near future.”

Super Middleweight boogeyman Yamaguchi Falcao was forced to withdraw from his June 25 fight in Georgia after suffering a left elbow injury in training camp. Falcao, 21-1-1 (9 KO’s), won an entertaining decision over Damian Bonelli to win the NABA gold title back in March. The Florida-based Brazilian’s reiterated his willingness to face one of the top super middleweights anywhere in the world.

“This is very disappointing for Yama because this was a chance for him to stay busy since no fighter in the top 15 was willing to face him,” said Caliguire. “His elbow is swollen and we’ve got an MRI scheduled so hopefully its nothing major.”
Fire Fist Boxing also retained the exclusive promotional rights to contender Willian “Babyface” Silva of Brazil. Silva, who has an excellent 28-4 record with 16 wins by KO, was previously co-promoted by Star Boxing.

On October 16 Silva faced top rated junior welterweight Cletus Seldin for the NABA title at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. The bout was extremely competitive through six rounds but Seldin knocked out Silva with a huge overhand right early in the seventh. Silva’s career will resume in the 135 pound weight class.

“Willian moved up in weight to fight two of the best junior welterweights,” said Caliguire. “He gave it his all, but physically he’s a different fighter at 135. There are a lot of opportunities out there for him and should have something lined up shortly.”

Coyle defeats Todd for NABA title in Orlando, FL

Orlando, FL (May 22, 2022) – Connor “The Kid” Coyle (16-0, 7 KO’s) captured the NABA middleweight title after winning a spirited split decision against Atlanta, GA’s Antonio Todd (13-6, 7 KO’s) Saturday evening at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, FL.

Broadcast live on the Bally Sports Network, Coyle controlled the early rounds by outworking Todd. Coyle found a home for crisp right hands and left hooks but Todd displayed a solid chin.

Todd, who was coming off a career best victory against top 10 rated Hugo Centeno in January, provided a tough test for Coyle and had his moments during this entertaining ten round contest. Fighting out of the Philly Shell defensive style, Todd worked behind a solid jab and his movement created challenges for Coyle.

In the tenth round, Todd buzzed Coyle with a good shot and looked for the knockout but Coyle recovered and battled back. After the final bell, the crowd provided a round of applause for both fighters.

Judge Alexander Levin’s scorecard of 96-94 for Todd was overruled by tallies of 97-93 and 96-94 in favor of Coyle.

“Todd was an awkward fighter but that’s what we were expecting,” said Coyle, who hails from Derry, Ireland and fights out of Pinellas Park, FL. “This fight was a great experience against an opponent with a tricky style. He’d give a lot of good fighters trouble with his movement and ring smarts. With that said, I controlled the early rounds and pressed the fight as much as I could. I thought for sure we won the fight seven rounds to three or maybe 6-4 so the (scorecard for Todd) really surprised me.”

Coyle’s promoter, Jody Caliguire of Firefist Boxing Promotions, was proud of his fighter for earning the hard-fought victory.

“Winning the NABA title and earning a ranking in the top 10 is a big move for his career. Connor’s now 16-0 and has a great team behind him. We’re looking forward to bigger opportunities in the near future.”

Coyle returns to the US to train for May 21 showdown with Todd

St. Petersburg, FL (April 13, 2022) – Undefeated middleweight Connor “The Kid” Coyle has arrived in Florida for training camp with Head Trainer Jim McLaughlin ahead of his May 21 NABA middleweight title showdown against Antonio Todd at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, FL.

Splitting time between his native Northern Ireland and Florida, Coyle’s amassed a perfect 15-0 record with 7 wins by knockout. On February 19, Coyle broke down once-beaten Rodrigo Rodrigues en route to a fifth round stoppage.

Born and raised in Atlanta, GA, Todd’s record is a deceptive 13-5 with 7 wins by KO. During the last year and a half, he’s amassed an impressive 6-1-1 record. Todd earned his biggest win to date on January 22, scoring a ten round majority decision over longtime contender Hugo Centeno Jr.

“Todd is very tough but this is the kind of fight I need,” said Coyle. “He’s much better than his record suggests and a few of his losses were close fights against top opponents. I’m happy to be back in Florida and know this is going to be a tough camp because I’ve got to be at my best to take home the NABA title on May 21.”

Coyle’s promoter, Jody Caliguire of Fire Fist Boxing, sees a win over Todd leading to much larger opportunities.

“Antonio Todd is no pushover and Connor has to be at his best if he wants to win impressively. This fight is on a great platform on Bally Sports Network and for the NABA title. If everything goes as planned, Connor will be rated as one of the top 15 middleweights in the world and the opportunities are limitless!”

Coyle-Todd will air on Bally Sports Network, the Bally App and Display TV.as part of the Bally Sports Entrobox Series at 9 PM ET.

Tickets from $45 are on sale at Ticketmaster.com. Doors open at 5 pm and the opening bell is scheduled for 6.

Falcao and Coyle win in Melrose, MA

Melrose, MA (February 22, 2022) – Fire Fist Boxing Promotions’ Yamaguchi Falcao and Connor “The Kid” Coyle both scored knockouts Saturday, February 19 at Memorial Hall in Melrose, MA.

Headlining a card promoted by Reyes Boxing Promotions, Falcao captured the WBC Latino Super Middleweight title via second round knockout of Fernando Ezequiel Farias.

Fighting out of his signature southpaw stance, Falcao was aggressive from the opening bell. The 2012 Olympic Bronze medalist found a home early for his jab, hook and left cross. A minute into the second, Falcao hurt Farias with a crisp left uppercut that sent him reeling towards the ropes. Moments later, Falcao put Farias down for the count with a hard left hook.

Time of stoppage was 1:21.

Falcao, who is from Brazil and currently resides in Florida, improves to 20-1-1 with 9 KO’s. Farias slips to 11-2-2 (4 KO’s).

In the co-featured bout of the evening, undefeated middleweight Connor “The Kid” Coyle of Derry, Northern Ireland kept his perfect record intact by stopping Rodrigo Rodrigues after five rounds.

Coyle, who had a significant height and reach advantage, backed Rodrigues up with many of his punches. Rodrigues looked to counter with left hooks and did land a few decent shots but it was mostly one way traffic. Coyle broke down Rodrigues with jabs and quick multi-punch combinations that shook the Brazilian up. Following a dominant fifth round where Rodrigues was battered and bloodied, his corner threw in the towel.

Coyle is now 15-0 with 7 KO’s and retained his ABF Continental Americas Middleweight title. Rodrigues slips to 8-2 (7 KO’s).

“I am very pleased with Yama and Connor’s performances,” said Jody Caliguire of Fire Fist Boxing Promotions. “Yama fought much more aggressively than in the past and that is something he was working on in camp. He’s a dangerous opponent for anybody in the 168 pound division. Connor did a great job of breaking his opponent down and fighting smart. We believe this is the year he’ll become top 15 middleweight in the world.”

Falcao returns to action March 26 at the Caribe Royal Resort in Orlando, FL. Coyle’s next bout will be announced shortly.

Coyle to face Lopes February 19 in Melrose, MA

Melrose, MA (February 1, 2022) – Connor “The Kid” Coyle risks his perfect record against Brazilian knockout artist Rodrigo Lopes Saturday, February 19 at Memorial Hall in Melrose, MA.

Coyle, who is from Northern Ireland but trains in St. Petersburg, FL, is 14-0 with 6 of his victories coming by knockout.
The 31-year-old was slated to face rugged contender Guido Nicolas Pitto of Argentina but he was forced to withdraw.

Since suffering his only career defeat, Lopes, 8-1 (7 KO’s) has been in the gym working on his craft. Team Lopes claims their boxer will be a totally different fighter than the one previously seen since he’ll be competing as a full-fledged middleweight rather than a weight drained welterweight.

The eight round Coyle-Lopes matchup is for the ABF Continental Americas Middleweight title.

The bout serves as the co-main event of Reyes Boxing’s “Down & Dirty”. Presented by Reyes Boxing, tickets for
“Down & Dirty” are on sale now by going to Tinyurl.com/4TMZAWXE. The card will also be broadcast on Throwdownsports.com. More information is available by calling 978-745-4007 or going to ReyesBoxingClub.com.

Doors open at 6:30 and Melrose Memorial Hall is located at 590 Main St.

Headlining this exciting evening of boxing is an international super middleweight battle featuring 2012 Olympic medalist Yamaguchi Falcao of Brazil and Fernando Ezequiel Farias of Argentina. Falcao and Farias are a combined 29-2-3 and will battle it out over 10 rounds for the WBC Latino 168 pound title.

Junior welterweight Joseph Fernandez of St Petersburg, FL by way of Springfield, MA fights for the first time in The Bay State when he meets Gonzalo Dallera in an eight rounder. Fernandez is 14-3-3 with 5 KO’s and is coming off an impressive 3rd round KO of Jose Forero. Dallera hails from Argentina and is a veteran of 24 fights.

Coyle, Falcao and Fernandez are promoted by Fire Fist Boxing Promotions.

“Down and Dirty” features a total of 12 fights including lightweight Alejandro Paulino, heavyweight Donnie Palmer, welterweight Eric Goff, cruiserweight Bernard Joseph and junior welterweight Marqus Bates in separate bouts.

All fights are subject to change.

“We’ve got a nice mix of local boxers and world class global talent on this card,” said Michael Reyes of Reyes Boxing. “The Boston region has a large Irish and Brazilian population, so there should be strong support for Connor Coyle and Yamaguchi Falcao as well.”

Coyle returns to the US; starts camp in Florida

St. Petersburg, FL (January 3, 2022) – Undefeated middleweight Connor “The Kid” Coyle is back in the US and preparing for a big 2022.

A perfect 14-0 as a pro, Coyle trains under Florida Boxing Hall of Famer Jim McLaughlin in St. Petersburg but was in his native Northern Ireland the last two years due to Covid restrictions. Although he trained and ran regularly back home, a return stateside was necessary to get him to the next level.

“It feels great to be back with my team in St Petersburg,” said Coyle, who is married and has a daughter. “I’ve been training alongside Yamaguchi Falcao who is a world class talent and works extremely hard. We’re going to push each other throughout camp. Being away from home and strictly focused on boxing is what gets me into beast mode!”

Coyle’s 2022 begins February 19 against ultra-tough Guido Nicolas Pitto in an eight round contest. Originally from Argentina but living in Spain, Pitto’s 27-9-2 with 8 wins by KO. He’s defeated world rated contender Jack Culcay (14-0) and Reda Zam Zam (27-1) while also battling Magomed Madiev (11-0) to a draw. Coyle will be the eighth unbeaten foe Pitto’s faced.

Coyle and Pitto will square off at Memorial Hall in Melrose, MA. With Boston only 10 miles south and New York a few hours down the road, Coyle’s expecting a big turnout to kickoff what he believes will be the most important year of his career.

“I’m excited to be fighting in the Boston area where there’s a large Irish population. I have a lot of fans that already purchased tickets and a bus of supporters will be making the trip up from New York City. The plan is to go out and give them a great performance.”

Coyle’s promoter, Jody Caliguire of Fire Fist Boxing Promotions, is also pleased to have his highly-regarded fighter back in the US and shares the same vision for 2022.

“Connor is ready to make a big splash this year. He’s getting great work in the gym with Yamaguchi and helping him get ready because he’s also fighting February 19th in Melrose. Once Connor takes care of Pitto, who is a very tough fighter, it’ll be onto bigger and better things. “The Kid” has star potential and is ready to show the world he’s a legitimate world class fighter.”

Tickets for the February 19 card are on sale now by going to Tinyurl.com/4TMZAWXE. The card will also be broadcast on Throwdownsports.com. More information is available by calling 978-745-4007 or going to ReyesBoxingClub.com.

Undefeated Jade Bornea wins split decision over Ernesto Delgadillo to capture NABF super flyweight title

TOPPENISH, Wash. (January 31, 2020) – Hot Filipino prospect Jade “Hurricane” Bornea struck America last night and he delivered, winning a 10-round split decision over previously unbeaten Ernesto Delgadillo, to capture the vacant North American Boxing Federation (NABF) super flyweight title.

Bornea vs. Delgadillo headlined RJJ Boxing on UFC FIGHT PASS®®, the world’s leading digital subscription service for combat sports, live and exclusively from Legends Casino in Toppenish, Washington. To sign up for UFC FIGHT PASS, please visit www.ufcfightpass.com

Fighting for the first time as a professional in the United States, the 24-year-old Bornea (15-0, 1o KOs) went into the fight rated No. 10 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and No. 15 by the World Boxing Association (WBA). He is a former IBF World Youth and World Boxing Oriental Youth super flyweight champion.

Last night on a show presented by Roy Jones Jr. (RJJ) Boxing Promotions, Bornea made a name for himself outside his native Philippines with an impressive victory against Delgadillo (11-1-2, 2 KOs), a former World Boxing Council (WBC) United States super flyweight titlist.

Bornea (R) is a rising Filipino prospect

The 10-round main event was split into almost two different fights: Delgadillo effectively jabbed his way to take the early rounds, and he registered a somewhat questionable knockdown in the sixth round. Bornea successfully closed the distance after three rounds, sitting in the pocket and becoming more aggressive as the fight went on.

Bornea won a split decision (96-93 X 2 & 93-96) to become the new NABF super flyweight champion.

In the co-featured event, Northern Ireland middleweight Connor “The Kid” Coyle improved his record to 12-0 (5 KOs), needing only three minutes to take care of business. Coyle connected on a crisp combination at the end of round one, hurting his Mexican opponent, Miguel Dumas (11-3, 8 KOs). On the advice of the ringside physician, referee Joel Scobie halted the action after round one for a Coyle TKO win.

Connor Coyle, Santiago Dominguez & Brandon Valdes all remain undefeated

ALPINE, Calif. (August 26, 2019) – All three undefeated fighters showcased last Saturday night on another installment of RJJ Boxing on UFC FIGHT PASS® — Irish middleweight
Connor “The Kid Coyle, Mexican super welterweight Santiago “Somer” Dominguez and Colombian super bantamweight Brandon Valdes – each won in relatively easy fashion, fighting outdoors at Viejas Casino and Resort in Alpine, California.

The 29-year-old Coyle (11-0, 4 KOs) dropped Ramirez (21-5-2, 4 KOs) in the opening round, but the Irishman was penalized a point for pushing his opponent to the canvas. Coyle overwhelmed Ramirez when he came out of his corner for the second round forcing the pressure and he never let up. The relentless Coyle unleashed a barrage of unanswered punches, dropping Ramirez once again, when suddenly a white towel came flying out of Ramirez’ corner, signifying his cornermen had seen enough.

Coyle, fighting out of Derry, Northern Ireland, improved to 11-0 overall as a pro, winning all nine of his fights in the United States, and 2-0 fighting under of the RJJ Boxing banner.

Ramirez, who was a longtime sparring partner for Floyd Mayweather, Jr., fought for the first time since last November. He entered the ring riding a six-fight win streak, coming out on top in 10 of his last 11 fights.

Dominguez (17-0, 13 KOs), now living in Ft. Worth, TX, ripped two vicious left hooks to the body of Fabian Lyimo (23-10-2, 15 KOs), of Tanzania, who took a knee and failed to beat the 10-count in the second round of the co-featured event.

Santiago Dominguez (L) destroyed Fabian Lyimo

In the UFC FIGHT PASS opener, Colombian super bantamweight Valdes, fighting out of Los Angeles, pitched a “shutout” by winning all eight rounds on the three judges’ scorecard, in addition to dropping his opponent twice, for impressive unanimous decision victory (80-70 X 3) over his fellow countryman, Jesus Martinez (26-9, 13 KOs), the former South American super flyweight champion, who has the same head trainer as world heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz, Manny Robles..

Roy Jones, Jr. Boxing Promotions signs undefeated Irish middleweight Connor Coyle

LAS VEGAS (March 12, 2019) – Roy Jones, Jr. (RJJ) Boxing Promotions has announced the signing of undefeated Irish middleweight prospect Connor Coyle (9-0, 3 KOs) to an exclusive, long-term promotional contract.

Fighting out of Derry, Northern Ireland, the 28-year-old Coyle has boxing flowing through his veins. His great-grandfather and uncle, both named Spider Kelly, each became British Empire and Commonwealth champions.

“When I saw Coyle fight this past February 16th, I knew we had to have him,” explained RJJ Boxing CEO and co-founder Keith Veltre. “He possesses all the assets to make him a future World Champion. He doesn’t wait to have the fight come to him, he brings the action to you. He will be a full-time fighter on UFC Fight Pass. You definitely want to keep an eye on Connor.”

“My team and I are very happy to sign with Roy Jones Jr Boxing Promotions,” Coyle said. “They made us a great offer and it was an amazing experience headlining for them on UFC Fight Pass in February. Fight Pass is a great platform that will only expand our horizons with fans across the globe. We’re excited to see what the future holds, and I look forward to entertaining the fans with every fight.”

Fighting for the first time in the main event, Coyle is coming off his most impressive performance as a professional, nearly pitching a shutout (80-70, 80-70, 79-71) in an eight-round unanimous decision victory over Travis Scott (19-5, 5 KOs) this past February 16, at historic Saint Petersburg (FL) Coliseum. The show was co-promoted by RJJ Boxing and Rite Hook Promotions and streamed live on UFC FIGHT PASS® as part of a new agreement between RJJ Boxing and FIGHT PASS, to live stream up to 72 professional boxing events during the next three years.

During the majority of his 3 ½-year pro boxing career, Coyle has flown back-and-forth over the Atlantic Ocean from his native country to Florida in order to finish his training with Jim McLaughlin. Coyle begins training for his fights back home for four weeks with his coach from the amateurs. He then travels to Saint Petersburg for a 4 to 6-week training camp under McLaughlin’s guidance.

“I really miss my daughter when I’m away from home,” Coyle admitted, “but it’s also good to get away from family and any distractions to solely focus on getting in top shape. I’m used to the cultural differences between home and Florida. I come to the U.S. for one thing, training for my fight.

“I was mostly a boxer as an amateur but, as a pro, I’ve added more power and speed. I’m still a boxer, but I can fight when I need to, and I adapt in the ring to what my opponent is doing. This is going to be a big year for me!”

Fire Fist Boxing fighters set for UFC Fight Pass bouts in St. Petersburg

Tampa, FL (February 13, 2019) – Fire Fist Boxing’s Connor “The Kid” Coyle, Willian “Baby Face” Silva and Mark Reyes Jr. will all fight as part of a UFC Fight Pass card Saturday, February 16 at the Coliseum in St. Petersburg, FL.

This excellent evening of boxing is promoted by Roy Jones Jr. Boxing Promotions in association with Rite Hook Promotions.

Headlining the telecast is an eight round middleweight showdown between Coyle and Travis “Dirty Red” Scott.

Splitting time between his native Ireland and St. Petersburg, FL, Coyle’s a perfect 8-0 with 3 wins by knockout. He’s become a big draw in the Tampa-St Pete area and most recently scored a sixth round TKO of Danny Pastrana. The talented Coyle has been featured as a prospect to watch out for by media members from both sides of the pond.

Fighting out of Baton Rouge, LA, Scott is Coyle’s most experienced foe to date. The 38-year-old has an excellent 19-4 professional ledger with 5 KO’s. A true veteran of the sport, Scott turned pro in 2004 when Coyle was 14.

Welterweight phenom Mark Reyes Jr of Tampa, FL risks his 0 against fellow unbeaten Rodrigo Tatijewski of Sao Paolo, Brazil in a highly-anticipated six round contest.

The wildly popular Reyes Jr. is 8-0 with 6 KO’s. An athletic boxer-puncher, Reyes is coming off a third round TKO of Juan Garces last October and at 22-years-old, continues to improve rapidly.

Tatijewski, who is fighting for the first time in the United States, is 8-0 and has 7 wins by way of knockout. He’s confident of making a major splash by taking out Reyes in front of millions of viewers on UFC Fight Pass.

Junior welterweight Willian “Baby Face” Silva of Plant City, FL by way of Sao Paolo, Brazil challenges rugged Argentinian Juan Ramon Solis in a ten rounder.

Silva, who has an excellent 26-2 professional ledger and 15 wins by knockout, scored a dominant 9th round TKO over Jose Forero last October. After fighting most of his career at lightweight, Silva’s sights are set on the best at 140 pounds but he must first get past Solis.

Living and fighting out of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Solis is 25-13 with 9 KO’s. The 36-year-old’s faced many top fighters including world champion Robert Easter, contenders Sergio Thompson and Diego Silva along with unbeaten Saul Rodriguez among others.

“This is a great opportunity for Connor, Mark and Willian,” said Jody Caliguire of Fire Fist Boxing. “The UFC Fight Pass platform is perfect for all three of these excellent boxers to showcase their talent to fans from all over. We’re looking forward to Saturday evening.”
