NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA (January 12, 2024) – Fighting Irish Promotions, in collaboration with DMS Trade Shows, is set to deliver an electrifying fight card titled “The Homecoming” on February 2, 2024, at the Scotiabank Centre Halifax in Nova Scotia, Canada. The 10-round main event will feature Custio Clayton (19-1-1, 12 KOs) as he steps into the ring against Courtney Pennington (17-7-3, 7 KOs) in a super welterweight attraction. Patrice Volny (17-1, 11 KOs) goes head-to-head against Deandre Ware (16-4-2, 9 KOs) in a scheduled 10-round super middleweight co-main event bout.

Hailing from North Preston, Canada, Custio Clayton has fought at the world class level, having challenged the likes of Sergey Lipinets and Jaron “Boots” Ennis. He captured the NABA and WBO International welterweight titles in 2019 when he defeated Johan Perez. He’s eager to get back in the ring after being out of boxing for over a year.

“I learned a lot about myself after suffering my first defeat against Boots Ennis,” said Clayton. “The time off helped me reflect on what’s important to me and I’m ready to start my journey back to the world title. Pennington is a fighter that I’ve been training hard for, and I can’t wait to fight him in front of my people in Canada.”

Patrice Volny, from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, held the NABA and NABO middleweight titles in 2019, when he defeated Ryan Young and Uriel Gonzalez. His lone defeat came against Esquiva Falcao, in 2021. Since then, he seized a win against Abraham Juarez Ramirez in 2023. He’s looking forward to fighting back at home.

Raul Curiel remained undefeated by stopping Courtney Pennington in the final round of their 10-round welterweight bout at The Fantasy Springs Casino Resort in Indio, California.

Curiel won just about all of the rounds and landed a flurry in the corner that did not seem to have Pennington in that much trouble, but the referee stopped the bout at 2:53.

Curiel. 147 lbs of Guadalajara, MEX is 13-0 with 11 knockouts. Pennington, 146 lbs of Brooklyn, NY is 17-7-3.

Manny Flores stopped Jerson Ortiz in round two of a scheduled 10-round super bantamweight bout.

In round one, Flores dropped Ortiz with an uppercut. Later in the round it was a little right hook on the inside. In round two, Flores was aggressive and landed a big flurry that was finished off with a left hand that put Ortiz down for a third and final time at 50 seconds.

Flores, 120 lbs of Coachella, CA is 16-1 with 12 knockouts. Ortiz, 119.8 lbs of Managua, NIC is 17-8.

Luis Alberto Lopez won the IBF Featherweight title with a majority decision over Josh Warrington at The First District Arena in Warrington’s hometown of Leeds, England.

BOSTON, MA, JULY 6, 2022 – Fight announcement, Greg Vendetti vs Courtney Pennington.

Greg “The Villain” Vendetti (23-4-1, 12 KOs) returns to the ring on Saturday, July 30th, 2022. He will take on the battle tested Courtney “King-Penn” Pennington (15-5-3, 7 KOs). This 10 round Super Welterweight special attraction will take place at Mosley’s on The Charles in Dedham, MA. The event is promoted by Vertex Promotions in association with Murphy’s Boxing.

The fan favorite Vendetti, will be fighting in his home state for the first time in over three years. During that stretch, he challenged Erislandy Lara for the WBA and IBO World Championships. Vendetti lost by decision but gained valuable experience fighting against the future Hall-of-Famer. Vendetti wants to get back on the big stage, challenging for a world title on national TV. The next step on his voyage will be on July 30th.

Most boxers in Vendetti’s position would fight against easy competition while they wait to get another shot against one of the top people in their division. Vendetti chose not to go that route and will be squaring off against Courtney Pennington. Vendetti stated, “I want my fans to see a real fight and that is what they will get.” Pennington has a very creditable resume and calls himself, “The upset king, and the road warrior”. Bethlehem, PA (September 16, 2019)–WBA number-15 ranked junior welterweight contender Mykal Fox kept on the path towards a major fight with a 10-round unanimous decision over Eudy Bernardo in the main event of an exciting nine-bout card at The Wind Creek Event Center in Bethlehem, Pa.

The nearly sold-out card was promoted by King’s Promotions.

Fox of Forestville, Maryland used his height and reach to start off the bout by keeping Bernardo at the end of his punches. As each round progressed, Fox moved closer and started landing solid four and five punch combinations that eventually started to make the normally forward charging Bernardo moving backwards towards the corner and ropes. Fox showed his class and superior skills that has him now being mentioned for deserved opportunities against the bigger names in the junior welterweight division, as he won by shutout tallies of 100-90 on all cards.

Fox,141.8 lbs is now 21-1. Bernardo 141.5 lbs of Santo Domingo, DR is 25-5.

Courtney Pennington out-punched Erik Spring by pounding out an eight-round unanimous decision in the junior middleweight co-feature.

Pennington was able to get inside at will on the taller Spring. When inside, Pennington worked by landing hard combinations that were mostly finished off by right hands that would snap the head of Spring. Spring was very game in defeat, but Pennington took the contest by scores of 80-72, 79-73 and 78-74.

Nicholas Hernandez and Terrance Williams waged an eight-round war that saw Hernandez take a unanimous decision in a junior middleweight bout.

Hernandez pushed the action and the fight between the two Pennsylvania natives brought out high-intensity from the raucous crowd. Williams had some moments during the contest, but he could not overcome knockdowns in round’s three and four.

Jonathan Torres thrilled his hometown fans by stopping Kaylin Waites 79 seconds into their scheduled four round bantamweight bout.

Like Fox, The 32 year-old Bernardo won his first 19 bouts.

In just his 4th bout, he won the Dominican Republic Lightweight Title with a 12-round unanimous decision over Jose Antonio Rodriguez Silvencia (3-0). Bernardo continued his winning ways with victories over Tomas Mendez (8-0), Darnell Jiles Jr. (8-1-1) and Mendez again (20-5).

Bernardo has been featured several times on national television, and is coming off a 10-round decision defeat to undefeated Kendo Castaneda (15-0) on March 28th in San Antonio, Texas.

Gennady Golovkin stopped previously undefeated Steve Rolls in round four of a scheduled 12-round over the limit middleweight fight at Madison Square Garden.

In round two, Rolls gave as good as he received as he landed a hard left that snapped Golovkin’s head back. Golovkin landed some nice body shots. In round three, Rolls landed a nice counter right. Golovkin came back with hard body work.

In round four, Golovkin landed a chopping hook that sent Rolls back to the ropes. Golovkin landed a head and body shot before landing a flush left to the face that sent Rolls face-first on the canvas, and he was counted out by referee Steve Willis at 2:09

Golovkin of Kazakstan is now 39–1-1 with 35 knockouts. Rolls of Toronto is 19-1.

Super Middleweight Ali Akhmedov stopped Marcus McDaniel in round three of a scheduled 10-round super middleweight bout.

In round three, Akhmedov landed a hard combination on the ropes that sent McDaniel to a knee. McDaniel got to his feet, but was unsteady and the fight was stopped by referee Benji Esteves at 1:41.

Akhmedov, 167.4 lbs of Kazakhstan is 15-0 with 11 knockouts. McDaniel, 168 lbs of New Orleans is 15-1.

Five-time New York Golden Gloves winner Brian Ceballo turned in the best performance of his career and took an eight-round unanimous decision of Bakhtiyar Eyubov in welterweight contest.

Ceballo landed hard jabs and string right hands from the opening bell. .  Ceballo was very accurate with his shots.  Ceballo looked very sharp as he landed crisp power shots in between Eyubov’s wild attempts to inflict on the Brooklyn native.  Ceballo continued to land sweet combinations that befuddled Eyubov.  In round eight, Ceballo hurt Eyubov was a nice body shot.  The two battled toe-to-toe down the stretch with Ceballo landing more, quicker and much more fluid combinations that marked up the face of Eyubov.

Ceballo of Brooklyn NY won by scores of 80-72, 79-73 and 78-74 to raise his perfect mark to 9-0. Eyubov of Kazakhstan is 14-1-1.

Israil Madrimov remained undefeated by stopping Norberto Gonzalez in rounds six of their scheduled 10-round junior middleweight contest.

Madrimov was dominant by stalking Gonzalez, and in round six, he turned up the activity by landing a heavy combination that hurt Gonzalez and the fight was stopped at 49 seconds.

Mdrimov, 152 lbs of Uzbekistan is 3-0 with three knockouts. Gonzalez, 152.8 lbs of Monterrey, Mexico us 24-13.

2016 U.S. Olympian Charles Conwell remained perfect with a 10-round unanimous decision over Courtney Pennington to win the USBA Junior Middleweight championship.

In round two, Conwell hurt Pennington with a left hook. In round six, Conwell continued to batter Pennington as he landed a hard combination along the ropes that featured a solid left hook and flush right.  In round eight, Pennington suffered a cut over his right eye from a left-right combination from Conwell.  In round ten, he stunned Pennington again with a right hand.

Conwell, 153.4 lbs of Cleveland won by scores of 97-92 twice and 96-93, and is now 10-0. Pennington, 152 lbs of Brooklyn is 12-4-3.

Nikita Ababiy made quick work of Juan Francsico Lopez Barajas as he scored a one-punch, 41-second knockout in their scheduled four-round middleweight contest.

Ababiy landed a left hook to the liver that sent Barajas down. Barajas was in pain, and tried to get up but fell right back down and the fight was stopped.

Ababiy, 162.6 lbs of Brooklyn is 5-0 with five knockouts. Lopez, 157.2 lbs of Mexico is 5-1.

2016 United States Olympian Charles Conwell takes on Courtney Pennington in a 10-round bout for the USBA Junior Middleweight Title.

Undefeated welterweight’s collide when Five-Time New York Golden Gloves champion Brian Ceballo clashes with Bakhtiyar Eyubov in a fight scheduled for eight-rounds.

Conwell of Cleveland, Ohio is promoted by DiBella Entertainment and Holden Promotions, and has a record of 9-0 with seven knockouts is looking to continue his ascent as one of the top-prospects in the world.

After representing the United Sates at the 2016 Olympics, Conwell turned professional in 2017. He has been brought along nicely, and has an impressive 2nd round stoppage over Travis Scott (19-3) on his resume. This will be Conwell’s maiden voyage of 2019 as he is coming off a 3rd round stoppage over veteran Manny Woods in December 22, 2018 in Columbus, Ohio.

Pennington of Brooklyn, New York has been impressive in his own right as the 32 year-old has a slew of impressive victories over the likes of Rich Neves (9-2-2), Boyd Melson (15-1-1), Khiary Gray (14-1), former world title challenger Delvin Rodriguez & Steven Martinez (18-3).

Conwell was 153.4 lbs at Friday’s weigh-in. Pennington was 152 lbs.

Ceballo of Brooklyn who was a five-time New York Golden Gloves champion and took home a staggering 17 National titles, is promoted by 360 Promotions, and is off to a record of 8-0 with four knockouts.

The 25 year-old is hitting his stride as he is coming off his most impressive performance when he stopped Ricardo Garcia in three rounds on April 10th in New York.

Eyubov of Kazakhstan has a record of 14-0-1 with 12 knockouts is known as a hard puncher. The 32 year-old has wins over Jared Robinson (16-2-1); Karim Mayfield (19-3-1) & Nicholas Galvin (21-1-1).

Ceballo weighed 147.6 lbs. Eyubov was 148 lbs.

Four Connecticut fighters will put their boxing and punching skills on display at “Slugfest at the Sun”, on a show headlined by bangers CLETUS SELDIN and ADAM MATE. The excitement, action, and fun will all occur at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut on January 26th, on a card also featuring Star Boxing’s talented fighters DAVID PAPOT (22-0 3KO’s, Saint Nazaire, FR) against COURTNEY PENNINGTON (12-3-2 5KO’s, Brooklyn, NY) as well as RONNIE AUSTION (10-0 7KO’s, Las Vegas, NV). The entire thrilling night of boxing is presented by Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing.

The best known of the Connecticut boxers, East Hartford’s “ACTION” ANTHONY LAUREANO, (9-0, 3KO, Hartford, CT) will put his undefeated record on the line against RONALD RIVAS (5-8-2, 3KO). Laureano is coming off a successful 2018, in which he notched three consecutive victories, and earned the Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame’s “Professional Boxer of the Year,” honors. He earned the nickname “Action” for his relentless come forward style and as always, Laureano intends to put on an exciting show from start to finish on the 26th.

Star Boxing’s ANGEL SUAREZ (8-2, 3KO, San Juan, PR), will face off against WILLIAM FOSTER III (8-0 6KO) of New Haven, Connecticut. After a slow start to his pro career, Suarez has come into his own, having reeled-off seven consecutive victories. Foster, boasts a strong amateur background, having won the Youth Super featherweight title and is a three time New England Golden Gloves champion. Foster last fought at Mohegan Sun on June 30th, in a bout that was ruled a no contest due to an accidental headbutt. Having combined for 15 consecutive victories, in bouts in which official decisions were rendered, these are two red-hot fighters who will create a firestorm in the ring on Saturday night. The winner of this bout will be crowned the JR. NABF SUPER FEATHERWEIGHT CHAMPION.

Two more fighters from Connecticut, both new to the professional ranks, will also be featured on the card. JACOB “LEFTY” MARRERO, was a USA Boxing Connecticut amateur of the year winner and sports a fine amateur record of 58-7. He now trains out of the Ortiz Boxing Gym, in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He was victorious in his pro debut in October 2018 in a bout in which he won by knockout. “Lefty,” as he has been nicknamed, due to his powerful left hand, will look to make it two in a row against ZSOLT KARVAJ (3-2, 2KO, Budapest, Hungary), the stablemate of headliner Adam Mate.

NATHAN MARTINEZ (1-0, New Britain, CT) is also new to the professional ranks. He also has a fine amateur pedigree. A 2015 qualifier for USA Boxing Junior Olympic Northeast Regional Championships, Nathan won the Thomas Costello Memorial Award as the Most Outstanding Boxer at the 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship. He looks to notch his second pro victory against JERROD MINOR (1-2-2, 1KO, Philadelphia, PA)
