Hard Hitting Promotions Kicks off 2018 with Hank Lundy vs. DeMarcus “Chop Chop” Corley at the 2300 Arena Saturday, February 10th

OFFICAL: World title challenger Hank Lundy (28-6-1,14 KO’s) of CES Boxing will continue his quest towards his goal of lightweight dominance when he battles former world champion DeMarcus Corley (50-28-1, 28 KO’s) in a eight round lightweight battle. Both fighters are ring veterans that have stated this fight is a must win if they are to continue on their path towards challenging the current champions in their respective divisions.

Hank Lundy of Philadelphia and CES Boxing has won two consecutive fights (including a victory last summer at the 2300 Arena), since his last defeat in early 2016 to current pound for pound king Terence Crawford. Although Lundy fell short in capturing the super lightweight championship, his valiant effort did not go unnoticed since he was fighting on an injured leg. Many believe to this date it is still the toughest test that Crawford has faced. Aside from Crawford, Lundy has also battled the likes of: Raymundo Beltran, John Molina Jr., Viktor Postol, Mauricio Herrera, and David Diaz. Lundy is known for never shying away from a stiff challenge and for always delivering a fan friendly fight regardless of the outcome. This fight with Corley should be no different.

DeMarcus “Chop Chop” Corley a native of Washington D.C. has been a professional since 1996. His close to eighty fight resume reads as a whose who of the best that the super lightweight and welterweight divisions have to offer. Corley a former super lightweight world champion has faced the past generations best including future Hall of Fame fighters Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Miguel Cotto. While Corley came up short in both fights, he more than held his own as he stunned Mayweather on several occasions early and had Cotto severally hurt. Corley has remained active including victories in his last two fights with one coming against Vivian Harris. Corley and Lundy share two common opponents, Viktor Postol and Thomas Dulorme.

Fighters from the growing stable of young talent at Hard Hitting Promotions will also be featured on the card. Branden Pizzaro (8-1, 4 KO’s) looks to rebound from his first professional defeat in December. After losing a competitive fight against another lightweight prospect. February 10th marks the beginning of a new chapter for Pizzaro who vows not to let one loss define his career. Jeremy Cuevas (6-0, 5 KO’s) looks to build off of his impressive 2017. In just six professional fights, Cuevas has had several statement victories and looks to continue that trend.

Super featherweight prospect Thomas “T.J” Velasquez (9-0-1, 5 KO’s) kicks off his 2018 campaign returning to the ring after fighting to a tough draw in his last fight of 2017. The son of former heavyweight champion Hasim “The Rock” Rahman, heavyweight Hasim Rahman Jr. (3-0, 3 KO’s) will be in action as he tries to continue the legacy of the fighting Rahman family from Baltimore, MD.

Hard Hitting Promotions is coming off of a great 2017 campaign. Putting on shows in various venues throughout Philadelphia such as: The SugarHouse Casino, the Liacouras Center on the campus of Temple University, the Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City NJ, and the first promotional company to utilize the brand new Fillmore concert hall. A state of the art venue in the trendy Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia. Moving forward Hard Hitting Promotions is pleased to announce that this fight card on February 10th will begin their relationship with the 2300 Arena.

2300 Arena is one of the primer venues in the city of Philadelphia for combat sports action. Americans aiming to upset Swedish boxers Skoglund and Yigit

American fighters Derek Edwards (27-5-1, 14 KOs) and DeMarcus Corley (42-25-1, 25 KOs) have travelled the Atlantic aiming to upset undefeated Swedish boxers Erik Skoglund (23-0, 11 KOs) and Anthony Yigit (15-0-1, 6 KOs) on Saturday night at the Rosvalla Arena in Nyköping.

Edwards, who faces local hero Erik Skoglund, is full of confidence ahead of their ten-round light heavyweight contest having already enjoyed some success against Swedish opposition.

The 38 year-old from Phoenix defeated current WBC World Champion Badou Jack via first-round knockout in February 2014, and intends to deliver another devastating finish to his fight with the IBF Intercontinental Champion Skoglund.

‘’Erik had better be ready because I’ve been training hard and training smart, and I’m looking to win this fight big,’’ says Edwards. ‘’I’m going to take my time, utilize my experience and when the opportunity comes I’m going to knock him out!’’

DeMarcus Corley, the former WBO World Champion, takes on the London 2012 Olympian Anthony Yigit in an eight-round light welterweight bout, and the Texas-native says he is ready to derail the Stockholm-fighter’s promising career.

‘’Anthony is a young, undefeated fighter but his record doesn’t bother me. When you start out like him, your records protected so that doesn’t always tell the full story,’’ says ‘Chop Chop’.

‘’I’m expecting him to be fast and try to start strong, so I‘ll need to make some adjustments, but as the fight goes on, I’ll use my experience, pick my shots and break him down.’’

International matchmaker and boxing historian Don Majewski has also warned of a potential American whitewash. ‘’It could be a tough night for the Swedish boxers,’’ says Majewski, who has been involved in the fight game for over fifty-years.

‘’Edwards and Corley are two World-class fighters, and without a doubt, the best American boxers to fight on these shores since Sonny Liston and Floyd Patterson. I would not be at all surprised if we see two American victories on Saturday night!’’

Tickets for the Nordic Fight Night show on Saturday, December 19 at the Rosvalla Arena in Nyköping are available via www.biljettforum.se or by calling (+46) 0771-130 150. All the action will be shown live on TV10 in Sweden.

ASHLEY THEOPHANE LAS VEGAS BLOG: GETTING ON WITH IT

ashley-theophane
This is my twelfth year as a professional boxer. I’ve shared the ring with some accomplished boxers in that time; world champions Danny Garcia and DeMarcus Corley, world title challengers Delvin Rodriguez and Pablo Cesar Cano, European champion Jason Cook and British champion Lenny Daws. Anyone would say, some of the best of my era.
Fighting and winning in five different countries. St Lucia, USA, Germany, Luxembourg and England. It’s easily said, but believe me, seriously hard to accomplish. Many might say that these achievements are worthy of recognition, and some might even applaud.

It is a sad fact that very few British fighters come to America and hold their own, they tend to drown! The Americans don’t yet respect British fighters, but I’m one of a select few that has won their very hard earned respect.
Most fighters prefer the comforts of staying at home. I’ve found out that by going out to alien territory, with none of my fans in the arena, has brought the best out of me. Behind enemy lines!
When I started boxing in 1988 my dream was always to fight in America.
To fight the very best and to be at my best. As an 8 year old kid my dream was unthinkable. How was I going to do this? I’m from a poor and neglected part of London, CRIME filled, with low ambitions and opportunities very few and far between.
I’m living my childhood dream now. The number one fighter in the world is my boss.
Very few people set a goal and actually achieve it. THROUGH THE YEARS the dream has gotten bigger and bolder. At first the naysayers laughed at me but now many cheer me, and to my surprise and pleasure, some even take the time to inform me “just how great I am doing and how far I’ve come”.
I have to say that I’ve done nothing in my life that has surprised me, as I’ve always pushed myself despite the lack of financial backing, I’ve found a way.
A kid from Paddington, England witnessing greatness on a day to day basis. The brilliant private workouts I get to witness AND I get to see Floyd Mayweather at work. I get to pound the streets of Las Vegas with him. He gives me advice and tells me he’s got my back.
The years of sacrifice, determination and hard work have got me here. Don’t ever tell me I can’t do something. I’ve already made the impossible possible, and HERE WE GO AGAIN.
It still amazes me just how many people appear to ‘dislike’ Floyd Mayweather, it’s usually because they do not know him, and they will never know him because they dislike him.

A former national amateur champion, East Los Angeles’ Frankie “Pitbull” Gomez (15-0, 11 KO’s) has been a rising star since he began his professional career. The winner of three bouts in 2012 including knockouts over Manuel Leyva and Pavel Miranda and a decision win over Lanard Lane, the 21-year-old is ready for his next step up in competition against former World Champion Corley.

38-year-old southpaw DeMarcus “Chop Chop” Corley (39-20-1, 23 KO’s) is perhaps the most battle-tested fighter in the junior welterweight division today, having shared the ring with the likes of Floyd Mayweather, Miguel Cotto, Devon Alexander, Lucas Matthysse, Zab Judah and Marcos Maidana and just to name a few. However, the former 140-pound World Champion isn’t living off of past glory, as in 2012 he issued defeats to previously unbeaten Gabriel Bracero and European contender Paul McCloskey, proving that he has plenty left to offer in the ring.

A true fan favorite who packs the seats at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino every time he fights, Coachella native Randy Caballero (18-0, 10 KO’s) has a support system second to none and has rewarded his followers with spectacular wins over the likes of Luis Maldonado, Manuel Roman, Alexis Santiago and Sergio Cristobal. Fighting out of San Juan, Puerto Rico Miguel Robles (12-2-2, 5 KO’s) hopes to spoil Caballero’s homecoming by scoring an upset this summer. The winner of nine of his last 10 bouts, the 31-year-old Robles is a former WBC FECARBOX super flyweight champion ready to go to battle and give Caballero the surprise of his young career.

FORMER WORLD CHAMPION AND NOW RESURGENT CONTENDER DEMARCUS “CHOP CHOP” CORLEY LOOKS TO PLAY THE ROLE OF SPOILER ONCE AGAIN SQUARES OFF AGAINST UNBEATEN VIKTOR POSTOL

New York, NY/ Kiev, Ukraine (10/26/12) – Tomorrow night at the Club Sportlife Arena in Kiev, Ukraine, former world champion and now resurgent contender DeMarcus “Chop Chop” Corley (39-19-1, 23KO’s) will once again enter into enemy territory and look to play spoiler for the third consecutive bout when he takes on unbeaten prospect Viktor Postol (19-0, 9KO’s) in a 12-round light welterweight matchup for Postol’s WBC international light welterweight title.

Since signing with DiBella Entertainment, Corley has put together back-to-back upset wins. First, he defeated previously unbeaten Gabriel Bracero in New York in January and most recently, in May, he knocked out world title challenger Paul McCloskey in McCloskey’s native Ireland. Now, Corley will look to make it three in a row when he takes on the Ukrainian Postol.

“I’m really looking forward to this fight and putting on a great performance tomorrow night,” said Corley. “I have seen some video of him and I know that he is a tall, long guy, but that doesn’t worry me. It is nothing that I haven’t seen before. That being said, I don’t plan on this fight going the distance. I didn’t come here to go 12 rounds and leave the scoring in the judges’ hands. I know how it is when you come into someone’s backyard. I have been here before, and I know that the best way to take care of business is to score a knockout and that’s exactly what I plan on doing. I am going to finish first and finish last. That’s the game plan in this fight and from here on out. I would love to fight Danny Garcia after this, but I am willing to fight any of the top guys or champions from 135-140 pounds.”

At 38 years old, with a career that has spanned 16-plus years, the former WBO light welterweight champion Corley has fought everyone from lightweight to welterweight, including former or current world champions Floyd Mayweather Jr., Miguel Cotto, Zab Judah, Randall Bailey, Junior Witter, Devon Alexander and Marcos Maidana. Corley has also been in the ring with current world-rated contenders Thomas Dulorme, Lucas Matthysse and Ruslan Provodnikov.

McCloskey to face Corley

Former world title challenger Paul McCloskey will take on former world titlist DeMarcus “Chop Chop” Corley on May 5th in Belfast, Ireland according to Dan Rafael of espn.com

“Corley has been in with the very best in the business and is on a high after beating Bracero, so it’s a good test for me,” McCloskey said.

Corley upsets Bracero in New York

NEW YORK–It was upset city in New York as DeMarcus Corley (38-10-1, 22 KOs) shocked the previously undefeated Gabriel Bracero (18-1, 3 KOs) in the main event of “Broadway Boxing” promoted by Lou Dibella. The fight was for the NABF Super Lightweight title. Corley, who is 37 years young and coming off of a six match losing streak was not expected to win the fight. Bracero’s handlers felt that Corley’s experience and elusiveness would give him trouble, but not THIS much trouble. From the outset, Corley was in control of the ring. He was, as always, fighting defensively, but surprisingly was the one coming forward; something that Bracero shouldn’t have allowed. In the second round, a straight left hand landed flush on Bracero’s face, opening up a cut that began to squirt blood. The referee had the ringside doctor look at it immediately, but the doctor ruled that he was safe to continue. Corley smelled blood. In an exchange, corley landed with a more crisp combination, finishing up with a picture perfect right hook that landed right on Bracero’s chin. Bracero was down and looked very hurt. He somehow beat the count and was able to get out of the round.

The third saw Bracero quickly regain composure, but he was still on the wrong side of nearly every exchange. A powerful straight left landed flush on Bracero, and he was down again. Hurt, but Bracero beat the count a second time.

Two rounds passed in which Bracero seemed unable to take control, and he found himself on the canvas a third time. It was another straight left, but this did not do much damage. Entering the second half of the fight, Bracero changed his gameplan a bit. Instead of walking straight backwards, he was moving from side to side. He made room instead of giving it up. It worked well. He took control of the fight.

Still, the fight seemed in the bag for Corley as three knockdowns seemed impossible to overcome in a ten round fight. Bracero was never considered a puncher. Then came the eighth round where he landed a straight right that knocked Corley back. The ref ruled it a knockdown saying that Corley’s glove touched the canvas. Bracero was unable to capitalize in that round or the final two. When the scores were announced 96-90, 94-92, and 94-92 for Corley, the classy Bracero applauded his victor.

The popular Seanie Monaghan (12-0, 8 KOs) took on a very entertaining Billy Bailey (11-14, 4 KOs) in a light heavyweight fight. Monaghan wanted to go rounds to showcase some new techniques his team had been working on in the gym. He was always known as a face first brawler, but came out with a different game plan. This time he stalked his opponent and picked his shots in a much better manner. His body punching improved as well. Monaghan was always a volume puncher when it came to the body, but this time he used it to force his opponent to drop his hands. It worked perfectly in the second round where he landed two crushing blows to Bailey’s mid-section and then followed up with a huge right hook that sent Bailey down.

Bailey beat the count and made it out of the round with a little help from the bell. The rest of the fight saw Monaghan continuing his method with Bailey responding with taunts and playing to the crowd. The crowd loved it, and both fighters seemed to be responding well to eachother. Monahghan dominated the rest of the fight, winning a unanimous decision by scores of 79-72, 80-71, and 80-71.

Boyd Melson (7-0, 3 KOs) made easy work of Sean Rawley Wilson (6-6, 1 KO) in their junior middleweight bout. Melson used quick reflexes and speed to overwhelm his opponent over the course of the six rounds en route to a shutout unanimous decision victory with all scores reading 60-53.

Luis Del Valle (15-0, 11 KOs) fought a tougher than expected Jose Angel Beranza (34-21-2, 26 KOs) in their junior featherweight bout. Del Valle was in control the whole fight, but Beranza was not there just for a payday. He fought hard with his much younger opponent and had some very impressive moment while stealing some rounds. But Del Valle just punches too hard, is too fast, and can defend himself too well. The entertaining fight went the full eight rounds and the final scores read, 80-72, 78-74, 79-73 for Del Valle. Some felt that the fight could have been closer.

Ran Nakash (26-1, 18 KOs) made his return after a disappointing loss to Marko Huck. He fought the tough Derek Bryant (20-7-1, 17 KOs). Bryant had nothing for Nakash, as he was bullied around the ring for eight rounds en route to a shutout. The three judges scored the bout 80-72 in favor of Nakash.

Danny McDermott (8-3-2, 3 Kos) took on Terry Buterbaugh (6-6-3, 3 KOs) in a junior welterweight matchup. The style matchup looked good on paper. Buterbaugh is someone who throws a whole lot of punches, while Mcdermott is someone who has a great chin while landing more precise blows. It was a bit sloppy at times when reality hit that their styles did not really gel as we all had hoped. The fight ended up being scored a draw, with scores reading 55-59, 59-55, 57-57.

Sonya Lamonakis (6-0-1, 1 KO) fought an all out brawl with Carlette Ewell (15-7-1, 9 KOs) in their heavyweight bought. Both fighters landed big punches throughout the fight and gave them a standing ovation when it was all over. The judges ruled it a draw with scores of 58-56, 56-58, 57-57. Many at ringside thought Ewell should have gotten the nod.

In a sloppy affair, heavyweights Thomas Hardwick (4-0, 2 KOs) and Richard Mason (0-4) squared off for four rounds. Hardwick was the more polished fighter of the two and won an easy unanimous decision victory based off of his harder and more accurate punching. The scores read 40-36 in his favor.

The opening fight of the night was a surprise as the very talented Alex Perez (15-0, 9 KOs) squared off against Josh Sosa (10-2, 5 KO’s). Most Broadway Boxing cards open with young fighters, new to the professional ranks, but Perez is a legitimate welterweight prospect in the region. From time to time, Dibella enjoys catering to the hardcore boxing fans that show up early no matter what. This time, we saw the knockout of the night. After scoring a spectacular knockdown in the first round off of combination punching, Perez only needed half of the second round to fishing Sosa off. An absolutely perfect right hand landed on the point of Sosa’s chin, sending his head snapping back as his knees buckled underneath him. The time of the stoppage was 1:39 of the second round, giving Perez a TKO victory.

Q & A with Thomas Dulorme

At the turn of the year Thomas Dulorme was just another nameless prospect in the talent laden Welterweight division, however after 2 impressive KO’s on big shows in Connecticut he created his own buzz and moved away from the pack. It’s still early days for the 21 year old; he’s only had 12 fights all wins with 10 inside the distance. His power makes for Interesting viewing, his team matched him with tricky southpaw veteran former world champion DeMarcus Corley last time out, it was a test that Dulorme promptly passed. He’ll stay busy and fight next on 19 August back in Puerto Rico. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him then get a slot on the undercard of Sergio Martinez next fight on 1 October. From here on the challenges get tougher but if Dulorme can keep doing what he’s doing Puerto Rico may just have another star in it’s midst.

Hello Thomas, welcome to 15rounds.com

Anson Wainwright – Firstly congratulations on your recent win over former world champion DeMarcus Corley. You won comfortably enough on points. Can you tell us about the fight from your point of view and were you happy with your performance?

Thomas Dulorme – It was a great fight and a great learning experience for me as a boxer. Corley is a trickster and you’ve got to be ready against him.

Anson Wainwright – Word is you will next fight on 19 August in Puerto Rico. Can you tell us about this? Any news on who you will fight?

Thomas Dulorme – Yeah. I’m very happy about that. To fight in Puerto Rico is a great opportunity for me, I love my Island. The rival hasn’t been announced.

Anson Wainwright – Prior to the Corley fight you had two very impressive KO victories over Guillermo Valdes on the Martinez-Dzindziruk card & Harrison Cuello on the Berto-Ortiz card. Both were respected journeymen. Can you tell us what it was like for you to appear on big shows in Connecticut like those?

Thomas Dulorme – It was a great experience for me, because fighting the both of them gave me other great opportunities in boxing. They were great foes.

Anson Wainwright – In your last two fights you have weighed in 3 pounds under the Welterweight limit, do you consider yourself a Light Welterweight or Welterweight?

Thomas Dulorme – Well I started as a Light welterweight and what happened was that one day I had problems making the limit of 140 and I started fighting on 142, and then 143 and 144. As of right now I can make the limit of 140, but not easily, so my trainer and me decided we should stay at the low side of Welterweight till I become a full fledged Welterweight which I’m not right now. I’m only 21 so maybe by next year I can become a full Welterweight.

Anson Wainwright – You’re known as a big puncher, could you tell us about your power and also the other skills you believe you possess?

Thomas Dulorme – I believe that my power comes from my fighting stances and speed. I move a lot and have a lot of angles and that helps me a lot to have different positions that allow me to power punch. I really like my speed and lateral movement it helps me a lot to move in and out of trouble.

Anson Wainwright – Who are the members of your team; your manager, trainer & promoter? Also what gym do you train at? Have you trained or sparred with any contenders or champions? If so how did it go?

Thomas Dulorme – My manager and trainer is Jose Bonilla and my promoters are Javier Bustillo, Lou Di Bella and Gary Shaw. I train a lot and spar with ex world champion Carlos “El Indio” Quintana. It did go well, I help him since I was little for his fights.

Anson Wainwright – I believe you were born in The Dominican Republic and moved to Puerto Rico. Could you tell us about your early years growing up?

Thomas Dulorme – I grew up in the French side of the Island of St. Martin and then moved to the Dominican Republic and then to PR. I moved to PR when I was nine and it’s the best thing that has ever happened to me I love living here.

Anson Wainwright – Could you tell us how you first became Interested in Boxing and when you took it up? Were you a natural or was it something you had to work at? Did you have much of an amateur career? If so what tournaments and titles did you win? Also what was your final record?

Thomas Dulorme – I became interested when I was little because I walked in to a gym and I thought it was interesting and I started. I was fast but technique wise I had to work a lot to perfect it. I won the Puerto Rico Golden Gloves, St. Martin Golden Gloves and Dominican Republic Golden Gloves. I did 142 amateur fights and lost only 2 of them.

Anson Wainwright – You are a member of Team Puerto Rico, could you tell us a bit about this?

Thomas Dulorme – Well it’s an honour because only the best Puerto Rican fighters are chosen to be part of Team Puerto Rico and it’s an honour to be part of it.

Anson Wainwright – What fighters did you grow up admiring & who you enjoy watching today?

Thomas Dulorme – My favourite fighter of all time was Sugar Ray Leonard, he had everything, speed, movement and power. If I can be half of what he was I will be fine in boxing.

Anson Wainwright – What are you goals in Boxing?

Thomas Dulorme – I want to become a world champion for my Island of Puerto Rico.

Anson Wainwright – Finally do you have a message for the Boxing world?

Thomas Dulorme – I want to thank all of them for taking some of their time to see my fights, hopefully I can repay them with excellent fights from now on.

Thanks for your time Thomas, we look forward to seeing you progress in your career.

Anson Wainwright

Hernandez drills out Corley in Five!!!!

Freddy Hernandez scored a fifth round stoppage over former WBO Jr. Welterweight champion DeMarcus Corleyat 1:48 of a scheduled ten round Welterweight bout at the Chumash Hotel and Resort in Santa Ynez, California.

The two combatants fought very hard over the first four rounds with each guy taking turns controlling the action. Hernandez had a decided size advantage and in round five landed a booming right that froze Corley before he plummeted to the canvas for which referee Pat Russell stopped the fight.

Hernandez, 148 lbs of Lynwood, CA is now 28-1-1 with nineteen knockouts. Corley, 143 lbs of Washington, DC is 36-13-1.

“My corner kept telling me to throw the right hand more and pick up the pace,’’ said Hernandez, who came out for the fifth with renewed intensity. “We’d seen tapes and saw where Corley slowed down a little after three or four rounds.

“His experience gave me lots of difficulties. That and the fact he was a southpaw and that we only had a week’s notice to prepare. I fought a southpaw before (Damian Frias on Oct. 23, 2009, on ShoBox) but I had a month to prepare for that. I cut in all my fights so I wasn’t concerned about them.

“This is definitely my biggest victory. To knock out an experienced former champion who never gets knocked out is great.’’

“I got caught, simple as that,’’ Corley said. “It happens to the best. Instead of me going bing, bing, bing (punches) and moving out of range, I went bing, bing, bing and stood up and got caught with a clean shot. Until then, I was frustrating him and fighting my fight.

“But I’m not going anywhere. As soon as I can return to the gym, I will. I’m definitely going to fight again.’’

Francisco Contreras scored an emphatic first round stoppage over Juan Castaneda in a scheduled eight round Jr. Welterweight bout.

Contreras jabbed early until he landed a big right hand that wobbled Castaneda before two more shots put Castaneda down for the ten count at 1:38 if round one.

Contreras, 136 1/2 lbs of Irvington, NJ is now 13-0 with twelve knockouts. Castaneda, 137 lbs of La Paz, Mexico is now 16-3-1.

“I am happy to get this win.’’ the 5-foot-10-inch, 25-year-old Contreras said. “All the shots I was hitting him with were solid. It’s too bad for him he couldn’t continue, but if he had gotten back up, I would have knocked him down again.’’

Castaneda said he felt he twisted his ankle just before he got hit and again after he hit the canvas. “This is really a tough way to lose. I hope he’ll give me a rematch,’’ the 5-foot-7, 26-year-old’ Castaneda said. He got me with a great shot and I wanted to get up and keep fighting. But I just couldn’t.’’
