Frampton withdraws from Saturday’s fight due to ear perferation

Super Bantamweight contender Carl Frampton had to pull out of Saturday’s fight with Evereth Briceno due to a perforated eardrum according to Dan Rafael of espn.com

The bout was due to be the co-feature for the Heavyweight showdown between Malik Scott and Dereck Chisora in London.

“Bitterly disappointed to announce that Carl Frampton is out of his fight Saturday,” manager Barry McGuigan tweeted on Tuesday afternoon. “The BBB of C have ruled he is unfit to fight.”

“I’m upset to have to announce that I have been ruled out of my fight on Saturday by the (British board),” Frampton tweeted. “A specialist initially informed me I was fit to box. (Tuesday) the BBB of C ruled me out. I’m so sorry, especially to the people who were coming to support me. It’s been an amazing camp and I’m gutted that I wont be able to showcase my improvements in Wembley.”

Frampton to battle Briceno on July 20 in London

Undefeated Jr. Featherweight Carl Frampton will take on former two-time world challenger Evereth Briceno on July 20 in London according to Dan Rafael of espn.com

“Everth Briceno is a great fighter. The guy has fought for the world title on two separate occasions,” Frampton said Monday. “He also boxed Leo Santa Cruz, who [I think] is a future rival of mine, so I aim to do a better job on Briceno than Santa Cruz did. I am in the best shape of my life right now. I am improving in training every day, sparring great, and I’m looking forward to showcasing my skills at Wembley.”
