CLETUS SELDIN SLUGS HIS WAY TO A TKO VICTORY OVER LUIS FLOREZ IN A BLOOD BATH THRILLER

New York, February 29, 2020–Star Boxing’s “Rockin’ Fights” series was yet again a thriller. Boxing fans around the world were treated to a sensational night of fights from start to finish at the sold-out Paramount, in Huntington, Long Island. If you missed the action, be sure to catch up via FITE.TV, HERE.

Long Island’s, NABA Super Lightweight Champion, CLETUS “THE HEBREW HAMMER” SELDIN (now 25-1 21KO’s) and LUIS FLOREZ (now 25-16 21KO’s) fought an electric battle. Seldin came out swinging, in classic “Hebrew Hammer” fashion. Florez, a late replacement, was able to weather the early Seldin storm, and settle in for what would be a gritty seven rounds. Seldin continued his come forward attack, controlling the action, while Florez attempted to counter with bombs, using his length and reach advantage to keep Seldin at bay.

In the 6-round, a vicious cut opened over the left eye of Florez, turning the already competitive fight into a bloodbath. Pinning the Colombian in the corner, Seldin landed a massive right hand that sent blood gushing. As Seldin continued the onslaught putting together combinations to both the head and the body, Florez’s cut worsened and the effect of Seldin’s relentless pressure on Florez was evident. Referee Al LoBianco had seen enough, calling a halt to the action at the 1:11 mark in the 7th round. With the victory Seldin defended his NABA title and improves to 25-1 (21KO’s).

Seldin had this to say about the victory, “I want to thank you all for coming out. This guy was a short notice, tough dude. My trainer said you have to dig deep and stay in his face and that’s what I did. That guy [Florez] can take a punch. Let’s get to the next one, let’s go.”

In the co-main event, world rated heavyweight CARLOS TAKAM (now 38-5-1 28KO’s) went to battle with Brazilian, FABIO MALDONADO (26-4 25KO’S). Takam established himself as the superior skilled fighter from the opening bell, but Maldonado, to his credit, was a warrior, eating shots, and waving on Takam to bring more. Takam’s game plan was clear, attack the body and work his way up. In the 5th, Takam landed three consecutive thudding body shots that even had the sold-out crowd groaning in pain. Takam dominated the fight with a commanding performance, winning by unanimous decision with scores of 100-89 (x2), 100-90. Takam improves to 38-5 1 (28KO’s).

Takam was direct in speaking about his victory, “Thank you all for the support. We keep on going!”

ALEX “EL TORO” VARGAS (now 6-0 1KO) took a step up against veteran ANTONIO SANCHEZ (now 6-9-1 3KO’s) in a 6-round welterweight bout. The rowdy crowd were on their feet as El Toro and Sanchez went to war over the full six rounds. The sensational final twenty seconds of round six saw both men trading shots at will, caution thrown to the wind and only the desire of victory left in the ring. See the final twenty seconds of the fight HERE. At the final bell the judges found in favor of Vargas by unanimous decision. (60-54 (x2), 59-55).

WENDY “HAITIAN FIRE” TOUSSAINT (now 11-0 5KO’s) picked up exactly where he left off, with a devasting knockout victory over the extremely tough, JERMAINE “REAL STEEL” CORLEY (now 3-9-1 1KO). Corley has battled with top prospects, five of his last six being undefeated. Upsetting two of those prospects, Corley entered with same mindset, however Toussaint would have none of it, landing a devastating right hand that sent Corley to the canvas. To Corley’s credit he got up ready to fight, however referee LoBianco did not like what he saw, and called a stop to the fight at 1:52 in the 2nd of the scheduled 6-round fight. Toussaint improves to 11-0 (5KO’s).

Union electrician (local 3) BARKIM “BARBELIEVES” LOGAN (now 1-0 1KO) battered JACKSON DE SOUZA (now 0-2) over their 4-round fight, as Logan earns the victory in his pro-debut via 3rd round TKO.

PRINCE SLAUGHTER (now 1-0 1KO)impressed in his pro debut, defeating decorated amateur, AHMET “THE TURKISH WOLF” TUNCEL (now 0-1) by a 2nd round TKO. AFUNWA KING (now 2-1 1KO) defeated NADIM SALLOUM (now 1-1) by majority decision. (39-37 (x2) King, 38-38 draw).

Star Boxing CEO JOE DEGUARDIA had this to say about last nights “Rockin’ Fights” 38, “The action definitely lived up to the hype. Cletus Seldin once again showed his relentless determination, pressure and power in a war with Luis Florez. Carlos Takam dominated, and is on the sure path to a major heavyweight showdown, and Wendy Toussaint was able to display his skill, and show why we we believe he will be a future world champion. Thank you to all of those that came out to The Paramount and tuned in around the world on FITE.TV and FightNetwork. We are looking forward to the next “Rockin’ Fights” on May 8th – we hope to see you there!”

HEAVYWEIGHT UNION ELECTRICIAN (LOCAL 3) BARKIM LOGAN FIGHTS IN 2/28 PRO DEBUT AT THE PARAMOUNT

New York, February 24, 2020–Star Boxing’s “Rockin’ Fights” 38 is set to feature Long Island knockout artist, CLETUS “THE HEBREW HAMMER” SELDIN (Shirley, Long Island 24-1 20KO’s) who defends his NABA title against Colombian slugger, HUMBERTO MARTINEZ (33-9-2 25KO’s). In the co-main event, world rated heavyweight CARLOS TAKAM (37-5-1 28KO’s) takes on tough Brazilian FABIO MALDONADO (26-3 25KO’s).

The boxing world is exciting about heavyweights again as last Saturday night’s impressive Tyson Fury stoppage over Deontay Wilder showed. As such Star Boxing announced that its co-main event is not the only heavyweight action going down at “Rockin’ Fights”. Queens native, BARKIM “BARBELIEVES” LOGAN is focused and ready to make his pro debut at The Paramount on February 28, in a 4-round heavyweight showdown with JACKSON De SOUZA (Boston Massachusetts, 0-1).

Logan, a successful amateur, began boxing at the age of twelve, idolizing the best of the best, such as Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson and Marvin Hagler. Fast forward to today, Logan is ready to make a statement in his pro debut. “I’m looking forward to putting on a great showing of my skills and hard work,” said Logan. In this moment anything less than a win is a total death sentence to my emotions and expectations.”

Beyond his own expectations, Logan knows he has a strong support system backing him come fight night, “my team, family, friends and union brothers best believe I will leave it all in the ring to make sure we are all victorious come February 28.”

By day, Logan is a union electrician for IBEW Local #3 and credits the Union for instilling in him a standard of hard work and education that allowed for a better life for his family. Perhaps most importantly, ahead of his pro debut, being #UnionMade has created an unrivaled support system for Logan, “they support me, believe in me and that’s more important than anything I could have ever asked for.”

This is certainly not the first time that Star Boxing has featured a union worker on its “Rockin’ Fights” card. Union laborer, highly rated light heavyweight and current NABO Light Heavyweight Champion, JOE “THE BEAST” SMITH JR. (Mastic Beach, Long Island, 25-3 20KO’s) developed at The Paramount in Star Boxing’s “Rockin’ Fights” series, backed by his local 66 Union brothers. Smith most recently dominated Philadelphia’s JESSE HART (26-3 21KO’s)at The Hard Rock in Atlantic City to earn the WBO NABO Light Heavyweight title.

Logan’s heavyweight bout is set to take place on the undercard of an expected sell out of double main event, NABA Champion Cletus “The Hebrew Hammer” Seldin against Humberto Martinez and top-rated heavyweight Carlos Takam vs slugger, Fabio Maldonado.

HUNTER MEETS MALDONADO IN MARYLAND

Michael Hunter will step up his pursuit of major fights in the Heavyweight division as he faces Fabio Maldonado at the MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland on Saturday May 25, live on DAZN in the US and on Sky Sports in the UK.

**TICKETS FOR MAY 25 FEATURING DEVIN HANEY ARE ON SALE NOW – CLICK HERE**

Hunter (16-1 11 KOs) has notched four wins at Heavyweight since moving up from Cruiserweight, with his last three coming inside the distance and impressively in his last two outings, stopping the touted Martin Bakole in the tenth and final round of their clash in London in October and then travelling to Monte Carlo to stop former World title challenger Alexander Ustinov in the ninth round of their battle a month later.

‘The Bounty’ is already in the reckoning for major fights amongst the big boys, having found himself in the conversation to face Anthony Joshua on the Heavyweight rulers American debut at Madison Square Garden in New York on June 1.

That honor has landed to Mexican Andy Ruiz Jr but with the Heavyweight scene as vibrant as ever and ready to come into focus over the next couple of months with champions and top contenders all in action, Hunter’s clash with the dangerous Brazilian banger Maldonado (26-2 25 KOs) is a pivotal one for him to remain in the reckoning for massive fights later in the year.

“I’m here to stay at Heavyweight whatever is next,” said Hunter. “There’s a lot of avenues for me, a number of big fights out there and I will take anyone on. I’m always in the gym and I’m a real, traditional fighter that will take anyone. I have a lot more doors open for me but the first task is to win and win well against Maldonado, who is a dangerous and experienced guy.

“I’ve always been a small Heavyweight. I just started off as a Cruiserweight as a pro but I’ve always been a Heavyweight really. I will just do what I do best and be me. I was a Heavyweight as a teen and as an amateur, I’ve boxed lots of Heavyweight fights but as I started to mature into the pro game and getting into my ‘man frame’ the weight started dropping off and Cruiserweight became a real option for me.

“Here I am now as a Heavyweight, my dream was always to be a Heavyweight, nothing else. I didn’t really think about Cruiserweight until I found out about the different divisions were, because as a kid you know the biggest, baddest man on the planet is the Heavyweight World champion and that’s what I want to be.”

Hunter’s clash with Maldonado is part of a huge night of action in Maryland as one of the world’s hottest talents, Devin Haney, is closing in on a first World title shot, and the 20 year old Lightweight sensation faces Antonio Moran on his DAZN debut.

In addition, rising Heavyweight Croatian talent Filip Hrgovic takes on Gregory Corbin in his US debut, and WBA World Super-Lightweight champion Jessica McCaskill looks to unify the division against WBA champion Anahi Sanchez.

Tickets are priced at $40, $80, $150 and $250 (plus fees) and are on sale now at this link: https://www.ticketmaster.com/event/15005688E0B851B0

GORMAN WARY OF MALDONADO POWER AHEAD OF 2019 DANIEL DUBOIS SHOWDOWN

NATHAN GORMAN IS wary of switching off on March 23rd when he takes on former UFC star and now 26-1 heavyweight Fabio Maldonado at the Morningside Arena in Leicester, live on BT Sport.

Facing the heavy handed Brazilian will mark the 16th fight of Gorman’s professional career, during which time he has become holder of the WBC International Silver title and become regarded as one of the most promising prospects in world heavyweight boxing.

Promoter Frank Warren has made it clear that the 22-year-old is on a collision course with fellow young heavyweight Daniel Dubois, with the fight projected to take place before the end of the year.

Both must remain in winning ways and the pupil of Ricky Hatton first has to overcome the toughest test of his career to date.

The 38-year-old Maldonado has recorded 25 KOs in his 26 wins since turning professional in 2002 while, at the time, combining a career in boxing with participation in MMA combat.

His MMA journey began in 2000 in his native Brazil before he was signed to the Ultimate Fighting Championship where he featured on 11 occasions out of his 38 fights in the Octagon.

The boxing career of Maldonado has been frequently punctuated by explosive KOs and 20 of his stoppages have come in the first or second round.

The only blemish on his record came in December of last year when he was defeated on points by the unbeaten Colombian Oscar Rivas, who went on to defeat Bryant Jennings in his next fight and is now regarded as a threat to the elite of the heavyweight division.

“What I know of him is that he is a Brazilian with a good record and has only lost once on points to Rivas,” reacted Gorman to his forthcoming challenge.

“Rivas is now a world contender and Maldonado also has a lot of knockouts on his record, so he is a fella who can punch a bit and, obviously, it is heavyweight boxing and you cannot switch off for a second.

“If you do that against someone with the knockout potential Maldonado has got, it could be the end of the fight.

“Ricky has had a look at him and we believe it is the right fight for my progression. That is why we have taken it. People thought I might start the year with a tickover fight, but do you really want them now I am 15 fights in? You are not going to get warm-up fights if you want to keep progressing.

“It will be good to start the year with a scalp like Maldonado, but he will be very tough and I have got to train for him like he is my world title fight. At the end of the day, if I don’t beat him then it is back to the drawing board.”

Nathan Gorman v Fabio Maldonado takes place at Leicester’s Morningside Arena on a card that also includes the British super featherweight title clash between Sam Bowen and Jordan McCorry. Local fighters CJ Challenger and Kyle Haywood fight for the vacant Midlands Area super welterweight title, with Sam Maxwell bidding to win the WBO European super lightweight title against the Spaniard Kelvin Dotel. Top prospects Lyon Woodstock, Ryan Garner, Willy Hutchinson, Tommy Fury, Ryan Hatton and Mark Chamberlain also feature on the bill.

Tickets from £40 can be purchased here.
