BROOKLYN – October 16, 2025 – Former two-division world champion Danny “Swift” Garcia held a media workout at world famous Gleason’s Gym on Thursday ahead of his “FAREWELL TO BROOKLYN” event taking place this Saturday, October 18 from Barclays Center as he takes on Queen-native Danny “El Gallo” Gonzalez in the main event of the Swift Promotions event.

The media workout also featured a slew of undercard fighters including undefeated Polish heavyweight Damian Knyba, who takes on Joey Dawejko in an eight-round matchup, Brooklyn’s own Chris “Primetime” Colbert, who faces Blas Ezequiel Caro in an eight-round attraction, and Philly action fighter Gabriel Rosado, who takes on veteran Vaughn Alexander in a super middleweight bout.

The workout also featured a young rising stars in the Swift Promotions’ stable as Brooklyn’s Cristian Cangelosi, who faces Victoriano Antonio Santillan, stepped into the ring in front of the media in Brooklyn.

“Camp has been great. I feel ready. There were no shortcuts. I treated this like a world title fight. I’ve done everything right.

“I got here because of everything I went through as a kid. I came from nothing and that’s why I have the grit that I’ve shown in fight after fight.

“I just want to be remembered as someone who fought everyone and never backed down.

“Danny Gonzalez is someone who’s been under the radar and deserves a shot. Some guys never get the opportunity and I thought he earned it.

“It makes me really happy to give young guys opportunities like this. To a lot of guys fighting at Barclays Center is a dream come true. That means everything to me.”

DANNY GONZALEZ

“I’m just excited to go. I’m calm. On Saturday the talking is done. We’re going in there to hurt each other, and I’m gonna hurt him.

“I don’t think it matters what his mentality is. When he loses, he’s gonna realize it’s time to spend time with his family.

“I’m feeling great. I’m blessed to be here on the big stage again and on Saturday night I just have to do what I do best.

“I’m gonna go back down to super featherweight to get back to the top. I’m actually hungrier now than I was for my last few fights. Right now I’m starving. I have no choice but to go in there and wipe out the 130-pound division.

“I know there’s a lot more that I’m leaving on the table as far as my career, and I can’t leave it there.

“I just want to win. I’m not worried about making a statement.

GABRIEL ROSADO

“I feel good to be here in Brooklyn. This is actually my favorite city to fight in. The atmosphere is amazing and it’s close to Philly.

“We’re doing everything right, that’s why my energy is really good. We’ve had a great training camp in Puerto Rico. It was hot as hell and it was what we needed.

“The heart has to still be in it to fight. That’s one thing about me, I can always count on my heart and my will. Nobody is gonna take that away from me. There was actually a point in my career where I counted too much on my will and slacked on my fundamentals. It’s those little things that make a big difference.”

BROOKLYN – October 6, 2025 – Swift Promotions has officially announced a loaded lineup of undercard attractions that features top contenders, former champions and a slew of young rising stars all leading up to Danny Garcia’s “Farewell To Brooklyn” in the main event on Saturday, October 18 from Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The jam-packed card will stream exclusively through MILLIONS.co with a pay-per-view broadcast beginning at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT with twelve scheduled attractions featured with purchase of the event.  

In the co-main event, rising contender Nahir Albright will step in against former world champion Richard Commey in a 10-round super lightweight crossroads matchup.

The action will also feature unbeaten popular Polish heavyweight Damian Knyba taking on Philly fan-favorite and veteran Polish-American brawler Joey Dawejko in an eight-round showdown.

Also stepping into the ring is Brooklyn’s own former titleholder Chris “Primetime” Colbert as he returns to fight in his hometown against Argentina’s Blas Ezequiel Caro for an eight-round lightweight affair. The pay-per-view event will also see a litany of exciting young contenders in action including unbeaten bantamweight Dominique Crowder (18-0, 11 KOs) in a 10-round matchup against Fernando Diaz (16-5-1, 10 KOs), and Ridgewood, N.Y.’s Mathew Gonzalez (15-1-1, 10 KOs) battling Wilfredo Flores (12-5-1, 5 KOs) in an eight-round super lightweight tilt.

The lineup continues with Brooklyn’s own Cristian Cangelosi (11-0, 5 KOs) in an eight-round super welterweight bout against Argentina’s Victoriano Antonio Santillan (13-8-2, 8 KOs), Newark, N.J.’s Keith Colon Rodriguez (7-0, 7 KOs) in a four-round featherweight match against fellow unbeaten David Calabro (5-0, 3 KOs) and Staten Island’s Reshat Mati (15-0, 8 KOs) in an eight-round super welterweight tilt dueling Ecuador’s Jose Angulo (16-10, 9 KOs).

Rounding out the pay-per-view card is unbeaten Washington, D.C.-native Quincey Williams (5-0, 5 KOs) facing Christopher Rodriguez (13-1-1, 11 KOs) in a six-round welterweight attraction and the pro debut of Bronx-native Jahanzeb Rizwan for four-rounds of super welterweight action against Daniel Weber (0-3).

Prior to the PPV, two bouts will stream for free featuring the pro debut of Newark’s Zahir Abdus Salaam in a four-round super welterweight fight dueling Ronald Binyard (0-0-1) and Brooklyn’s Elijah Gonzalez (2-0, 2 KOs) in a four-round super lightweight fight against Jason Chavez (0-1-1).

The event will celebrate the fans and arena that have supported Garcia throughout his storied history of delivering memorable moments over the course of his career. Garcia has amassed a 7-2 record throughout his nine fights at Barclays Center, more than any other fighter at the arena.

The 29-year-old Albright (17-2, 7 KOs) has ascended to the rank of contender with an impressive winning streak following a close decision loss to top contender Jamaine Ortiz in 2022. After beating the previously undefeated Estivan Falcao, Albright bested U.S. Olympian Carlos Balderas via decision in 2023 before facing former champion Keyshawn Davis in a fight that was originally a narrow majority decision loss before being overturned due to a Davis drug test. Albright followed that up by defeating Davis’ brother Kevin in June, winning a majority decision to capture a regional WBC belt. Originally from Philadelphia and fighting out of New Jersey, Albright put together a 14-fight winning streak following a decision loss in his pro debut.

A native of boxing-rich Accra, Ghana who has fought out of New York throughout much of his pro career, Commey (31-5-1, 28 KOs) has faced a who’s-who of top champions including Vasyl Lomachenko, Teofimo Lopez, Robert Easter Jr. and Jose Carlos Ramirez. His to a 135-pound world championship saw him stop the previously unbeaten Alejandro Luna in March 2018 before winning the title with a TKO of Isa Chaniev in February 2019. Commey also owns a 2022 draw against former champion Jose Pedraza and most recently stopped William Jackson in two rounds in August.

Representing his native Bydgoszcz, Poland, Knyba (16-0, 10 KOs) will make his Barclays Center debut on October 18 in front of the borough’s passionate Polish boxing fans. Fighting out of nearby New Jersey, Knyba will look for his third win of the year after most recently beating the previously undefeated Marcin Siwy after eight rounds in June. Knyba has continued to work his way up the heavyweight ranks with wins over veterans including Andrzej Wawrzyk, Michael Coffie and Curtis Harper.

A fan-favorite heavyweight from Philadelphia, Dawejko (28-13-4, 16 KOs) will return to the ring at Barclays Center for the first time since March 2020 when he challenged top heavyweight Frank Sanchez. Dawejko has taken on a litany of heavyweight champions and contenders including Charles Martin, Bryant Jennings, Stephan Shaw and Richard Torrez Jr., while also owning a draw against Jarrell Miller. Before losing his last two fights, Dawejko had won seven of eight contests between September 2022 and April 2024.

A stellar amateur representing Brooklyn, Colbert (17-3, 6 KOs) has also been amongst the boroughs best pros in this recent generation, earning an interim title at 130-pounds in his 14^th pro fight as he bested the former champion Jezzrel Corrales. Colbert continued his run at super featherweight by dominating Tugstsogt Nyambayar before eventually running into Hector Luis Garcia and being given his first defeat. He then engaged in a memorable set of showdowns against eventual 140-pound world champion Jose Valenzuela, winning the first fight by decision before dropping the rematch. He’ll return to the ring for his first action since a loss to Omar Salcido in October 2024.

Caro (12-8, 5 KOs) has made a career facing tough opposition and most recently defeated Gabriel Morales by decision in October 2024. The 30-year-old Caro had previously handed Morales the first defeat of his career in April 2024, stopping Morales after four rounds. A native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Caro’s triumphs over Morales sandwiched an April 2024 loss to the then unbeaten DeMichael Harris. Caro will return to fight in the U.S. for the sixth time on October 18.

One of the era’s defining action fighters, Rosado (27-17-1, 16 KOs) made a name for himself by facing a true who’s-who of boxing’s best including Gennadiy Golovkin, Jermell Charlo, Daniel Jacobs, Jaime Munguia and Peter Quillin, to name just a few. Rosado’s 2021 KO of Bektemir Melikuziev was regarded as one of the year’s best knockouts and biggest upsets. He most recently scored a first round knockout of Crispulo Javier Andino in August and will fight at Barclays Center for the first time since challenging Lemieux at the venue in 2014.

The brother of two-division world champion Devon, Alexander (19-16-2, 12 KOs) has made his own name in the sport by taking on tough challenges time and time again. The St. Louis-native’s resume includes top names such as Sergiy Derevyanchenko and Christian Mbilli, and also includes victories over Luis Arias and the then-unbeaten Money Powell IV.

LAS VEGAS (October 2, 2023) –- Back in March, Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez came in overweight for the first time during his long career for his scheduled fight with Gabe Rosado, which resulted in the bout being canceled, as well as the former world super middleweight champion’s reputation taking a tough hit.

Ramirez (44-1, 30 KOs) plans to prove himself against Joe “The Common Man” Smith, Jr. (28-4, 22 KOs), the former Light Heavyweight World Champion, this Saturday night in the 12-round main event on a card presented by Golden Boy Promotions, to be streamed live on DAZN from The Chelsea inside The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.

“The cancellation of the Rosado fight was definitely a disappointing and challenging moment in my career,” Ramirez admitted. “It was the first time I missed weight and I take full responsibility for it. I understand that it had an impact on both the fight itself and my reputation. I want to sincerely apologize to my fans, my team, and everyone who was looking forward to the fight.

“I’m aware that setbacks like this can have an impact but I believe that how I respond to adversity is what truly matters. I’m determined to show through my actions and performances that I’m dedicated to my career and to rectify my past mistakes. I’m focusing on the present and future, and I’m looking forward to proving myself in upcoming fights and regaining the trust of those who support me.”

Ramirez and Smith will both be moving up to the cruiserweight division for the first time, although their fight will be contested at 190-pounds. In some respects, Zurdo vs. Smith is an elite crossroads fight in terms of the winner becoming a legitimate world cruiserweight contender, the loser more of a name “opponent”.

“Zurdo” completely understands that saying he’s learned from the aforementioned Rosado fight cancellation simply isn’t enough going into the fight with Smith.

“I take full responsibility for not making weight and for any disappointment it caused,” he said. “Moving forward, I’m making several changes to ensure that such a situation doesn’t happen again, Moreover, the experience has motivated me to redouble my efforts in every aspect of my training camp. From my conditioning and skill development to my mental preparedness, I’m leaving no stone unturned, I’m determined to prove that I’ve learned from my mistakes and that I’m fully committed to my career and the expectations that come with it.

“Ultimately, I understand that actions speak louder than words, and I’m dedicated to showing through my performance that I’ve taken the necessary steps to rectify the situation and come back stronger and more focused than ever.”

Interestingly enough, “Zurdo” and Smith have fought four common opponents. Both lost 12-round decisions to World Boxing Association (WBA) Super World Light Heavyweight Champion Sergey Bivol, both took decisions from Maxim Vlasov and  Jesse Hart (Ramirez did so twice). The only difference was in Ramirez’ favor because “Zurdo” knocked out Sullivan Barrera and Smith lost a decision to Sullivan.

Does this common opponent comparison give Ramirez an advantage going into the Smith fight?

“No,” he quickly answered. Every fight is different, and I don’t ever compare any fight in that manner. Joe is a world champion who I know on fight night will come with everything he has to become victorious.”

Gervonta Davis stopped Ryan Garcia in round seven of their 12-round catchweight bout before a capacity crowd of 20, 842 fans at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Garcia hurt Davis with an overhand right. Garcia continued touching Davis until a perfect counter left from Davis landed squarly on the jaw of Garcia that sent him to the deck.

In round seven, Davis landed a left hand to the ribs which made Garcia take two steps back and sink to a knee for the 10-count at 1:34.

Davis, 135.3 lbs of Baltimore is 29-0 with 27 knockouts, Garcia, 135.5 lbs of Los Angeles is 23-1.

Gervonta Davis

“Everything about this was exciting. I was excited to be a part of this event. I remember coming up in the Golden Gloves and seeing Floyd fight at the MGM. It was crazy. I actually just saw Rihanna perform at the Super Bowl, and I thought that’s going to be me one day. And we’re here.

“The reality definitely matches the dream. But the job is never done until I retire so I’m going to keep my head down, stay humble and continue to work.

“Me predicting the 7^th round KO was me just trying to get in his head. I really don’t know until I actually get in there with my opponent, but once I got in there with him I felt like skill-wise, it all matched.

“The first knockdown was just him not knowing his placement and I knew that I was the smaller guy, and my coach was telling me in camp that he’s going to come up with his head up, so just shoot over the top.

“I didn’t think that body shot would end it, but I saw his facial expression and that’s what made me take it to him. It was a good shot, for sure. I thought he was going to get up but I like to play mind games, so when he was looking at me, I was looking at him trying to tell him, ‘Get up!’. And he just shook his head, no.

“I’m definitely the face of boxing. Absolutely!”

Ryan Garcia

“I’m good. ‘Tank’ is a great fighter. I take my hat off to him. I know we talked a lot of trash leading into the fight, but he knows what it is. It’s all love at the end of the day. I was honored to be in the ring with a great fighter and I respect him a lot. You know how the business goes. But I want to say to Tank, you’re a good man.

“He just caught me with a good shot. I don’t want to make any excuses in here. He caught me with a good shot and I just couldn’t recover and that’s it. He caught me with a good body shot, snuck under me and caught me good.

“I couldn’t breathe. I was going to get back up, but I just couldn’t get up.

“I think I should have pressured him a little harder near the ropes. I was giving him a little bit too much respect and I think that was my downfall. I think I gave him a little too much respect in the ring.”

Morrell Destroys Falcao in 1; Retains WBA Super Middleweight Title

David Morrell Jr. retained the WBA Super Middleweight title with a first round destruction of Yamaguchi Falcao.

Morrell came out blistering as he could not miss with his right hooks and uppercuts. Morrell sent Falcao down with a hard uppercut. Morrell finished off Falcao with a devastating right hook that plummeted him face-first and he was out for several minutes before he could get to his feet. The time was 2:22.

Morrell, 167.8 lbs of Santa Clara, Cuba is 9-0 with eight knockouts. Falcao, 166.4 lbs of Espirito Santo, BRA is 24-2-1.

“I’m so excited. This was a big moment and a big night for me, so a knockout in the first round is incredible. But this is boxing. First round, second round, I’m not worried when the knockout comes but I got it in the first round.

“I think this is the best moment of my career tonight. It was a big event and a big name. I want to fight the best in the division.

“Much respect to Yamaguchi. I’m glad he’s okay. He’s a good guy and a good boxer.

“David Benavidez is next. Where is he? I want to fight Benavidez, man. He’s next, 100 percent. I don’t want any other guys at 168 pounds. Just Benavidez. I respect Benavidez and his team, but inside the ring, I don’t respect nothing.”

Melikuziev Gets Even With Rosado; Wins Unanimous Decision

Bektemir Melikuziev evened the score with Gabriel Rosado and took a 10-round unanimous decision in a super middleweight contest.

Melikuziev laded 153 of 354 punches. Rosado was just 55 of 332.

Melikuziev, 167.3 lbs of Uzbekistan won by scores of 99-91 on all cards and is 12-1. Rosado, 167.3 lbs of Los Angeles via Philadelphia is 26-17-1

“In the first fight against Rosado, I underestimated my opponent. This time, we put the work in during camp. We went through everything. This time, the goal was to showcase my skills, box and punish him as much as possible too.”

“I tried, but I was a step behind. Father Time, eighteen years as a pro, but I was game. I walked to him, I boxed him, I tried everything but I was a step too slow.

“I was a split-second behind. He’s fresh, he’s young and I’m happy for him. I knocked him out bad in the first fight and he made adjustments.

“I don’t make any excuses. I was ready. Now it’s time to wrap it up and give my knowledge to younger fighters with management and training. I want to share my experience with them, and maybe do some more commentating.”

Elijah Garcia Decisions Kevin Salgado

19 year-old Elijah Garcia remained undefeated with a 10-round unanimous decision over Kevin Salgado in a welterweight bout.

In round seven, Salgado was deducted a point for a low blow.

Garcia landed 194 of 621 punches. Salgado was 178 of 551.

Garcia, 159.2 lbs of Phoenix, AZ won by scores of 97-92 twice and 95-94 and is now 15-0. Salgado, 159.2 lbs of Mexico City is 15-2-1.

“I was standing a little too still trying to fight on the inside. Salgado is a tough opponent. He was real tough, real strong and I just had to move and box a little bit. Other than that, it was a good, hard 10 rounds. I give my opponent 100 percent props.

“I stayed in shape one hundred percent after my last fight. Back-to-back camps, and not only that, but I made boxing a lifestyle. I’m always in the gym, eating good and doing the best I can to stay healthy.

“I just have to continue getting better in the gym every single day. That’s what it’s about. I learned a lot today. It was my first time going past six rounds and I got the full 10. The fights like this will get me closer to a world title.

“I felt like I won. By a small margin, but I should have won.

“I feel really sad because I felt like this was a really good fight. The referee kept getting in my way. I got a point deducted from me but he didn’t say anything when Garcia hit me in the back of the head. It’s all just very sad.

“It felt like swimming against the current. Mexicans always come to fight against everyone and everything: The judges, the opponent, the refs, the home fans. None of that got in my way to keep moving toward.

Czerkaszyn Stops Espadas in 9

Fiodor Czerkaszyan stopped Elias Espadas in round nine of a 10-round middleweight bout.

Czerkasyn beat up Esoadas throughout and even turned it up in rounds eight and nine, and the bout was stopped at 2:07.

Czerkasyn, 159.1 lbs of Warsaw, POL is 22-0 with 14 knockouts. Espadas, 158.9 lbs of Merida, MEX is 22-6.

Mielnicki Jr. Destroys Charles in 4

Vito Mielnicki Jr. took out Jose Sanchez Charles in round four of their 10-round super welterweight bout.

At the end of round three, Mielnicki dropped Charles with a long right to the head. Seconds later, it was a short, quick right that put Charles down for a second time. In round three, Mielnicki cracked Charles with a counter right to the jaw that sent him sprawlimg down to the canvas and the bout was stopped at 33 seconds.

Mielnicki, 153.1 lbs of Roseland, NJ is 15-1 with 10 knockouts. Charles, 153.6 lbs of Reynosa, MEX is 20-4-1.

Lorenzo Simpson remained undefeated with a six-round unanimous decision over Pachino Hill in a middleweight bout.

In round six, Hill began to bleed from the nose.

Simpson, 161.6 lbs of Baltimore won by scores of 60-54 twice and 59-55 and is 13-0. Hill, 163.3 lbs of Davenport, IA is 8-2-1.

Good looking Floyd Schofield remained undefeated with a second round destruction of Valentin Leon Jr. in a scheduled 10-round lightweight bout.

In round one, Schofield put Leon on the canvas with a straight left. In round two, Schofield dropped Leon face-first wit a perfect left at 1:51.

Schofield. 134.7 lbs of Austin, TX is 14-0 with 11 knockouts. Leon, 134 lbs of Culican, MEX is 23-2-2.

Jalil Hackett remained undefeated with a third round stoppage over Jason Phillips in a scheduled four-round super welterweight bout.

In round three, Hackett dropped Phillips with a perfect left hook to the body. Seconds later, it was another left hook that ended Phillips afternoon at 2:20.

Hackett, 153.9 lbs of Washington, DC is now 6-0 with five knockouts. Phillips, 153.5 lbs of Davenport, IA is 3-4-2.

Cuttino Oliver stopped Roberto Cantu Pena in round two of a scheduled four-round bantamweight fight.

In round one, Oliver dropped Pena Twice and the fight was stopped 1:07 into round two.

Oliver, 115.6 lbs of Baltimore is now 3-0 with two knockouts. Pena of Mexico is 3-3.

A Cuban-native who came to Minneapolis to begin his pro career in 2019, Morrell (8-0, 7 KOs) has quickly shown off the talents that made him a standout in Cuba’s storied amateur scene . The 25-year-old captured an interim title by dominating then-unbeaten Lennox Allen in August 2020 in just his third pro fight. Morell, who trains in Texas with renowned coach Ronnie Shields, added two dominant knockout victories in 2022 as he stopped Kalvin Henderson in June before a 12th-round TKO of the previously unbeaten Aidos Yerbossynuly in November.

Originally hailing from Uzbekistan and now residing in Indio, California, Melikuziev turned pro in 2019 after an impressive amateur career that included gold medals in the 2015 and 2017 Asian Championships. Melikuziev had knocked out six of his first seven pro opponents before running into Rosado’s right hand.

After scoring three-straight knockouts between September 2019 and February 2021, Salgado returned to the ring in October 2021 to defeat Ricardo Banuelos Cernas by unanimous decision before fighting Bryant Perrella to a split-draw in his U.S. debut in April. It all starts this Saturday when the former World Super Middleweight Champion returns to headline another DAZN card, matched against two-time world title challenger Gabriel “King” Rosado (26-16-1, 15 KOs) in the 12-round main event.

“Zurdo” is predicting a knockout victory, although he’s not taking Rosado lightly. LAS VEGAS (March 13, 2023) –- Former World Super Middleweight Champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (44-1, 30 KOs) returns to the ring this Saturday for the first time during his 13 ½-year pro career after suffering a loss against two-time world title challenger Gabriel “King” Rosado (26-16-1, 15 KOs), in the 12-round main event on a stacked card promoted by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Zurdo Promotions, streaming live on DAZN (8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT) from The Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, California.

The 31-year-old Ramirez, fighting out of Mazatlan, Mexico, didn’t have his hand raised in victory for the first time as a pro this past November in Abu Dhabi, when World Boxing Association (WBA) Super World Light Heavyweight Champion Dmitriy Bivol (21-0) successfully defended his crown by way of a 12-round unanimous decision.

“It just wasn’t my night and meant for my opponent,” Ramirez explained about his fight with Bivol. “Looking back, I could have been a little more active, but it is what it is. I definitely would like a rematch in the future.”

First, though, “Zurdo” needs to get back on the winning track versus Rosado, Philadelphia-born of Puerto Rican heritage, who is best known for his stubborn toughness. Rosado, who holds wins over former world champions Joshua Clottey and Kassim Ouma, will be moving up to the light heavyweight division for the first time against Ramirez.

LAS VEGAS — Only the argument continues.

A third fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena was supposed to settle it, once and for all. The third fight was way past its due date. Still, fans screamed for an answer. History begged for something definitive.

That didn’t happen.

Instead, it was more of the same. Twelve more rounds of no knockdowns. Twelve more rounds and three more scorecards. There have been 36 rounds in all. There was a controversial draw in the first one. There was a controversial majority decision won by Canelo in the second one.

In the third, not much changed. The scorecard margins were bigger. Canelo (58-2-2, 39 KOs) won again, this time by two points on two cards (Steve Weisfeld and David Sutherland) and by four on the third (Dave Moretti).

The decision was unanimous for the first time. Yet, the margins were still close enough to argue some more. But that argument figures to out-live the rivalry. Time is putting an end to it. Don’t expect a fourth fight. For the record, Canelo had the edge, winning two-thirds of the trilogy

If there was any momentum in the rivalry, Canelo had it. At 32, however, he had time on his side.

At 40, GGG did not. For him, retirement is near. He had his moments in the third fight, especially in the later rounds. He backed up Canelo with solid jabs in the ninth and again in the 10th. But even that was almost predictable.

Canelo, the aggressor in the opening rounds, started to show some fatigue midway through the bout. His feet quit moving. GGG knew that would happen. The crowd expected it. It had already seen Canelo tire, especially in his loss by decision to light-heavyweight Dmitry Bivol last May.

A subtle, yet significant, difference this time was that Canelo responded, fought back his fatigue, with a burst of energy and a couple of head-rocking combinations.

This time, he prevailed exactly at the same time he failed in May.

“The loss was good for me,’’ said Canelo, still the undisputed super-middleweight champion. “It made me humble. “I’m going to move forward. I’m going to get back at work on my legacy.’’

It was evident that the move forward will not include GGG (42-2-1, 37 KOs). After years of angry exchanges and insults, the two hugged after the scorecards were announced Saturday. It was as if they were saying goodbye.

“Thank you so much, I said to him,’’ said Canelo, who collected the lion’s share of a $65-million total purse.

When asked if there was finally peace between Golovkin and Canelo, GGG said: “Yes, 100-percent.’’

GGG, still the middleweight champion, also seemed ready to move on. There’s been talk of a retirement fight in Kazakhstan, his home country. There’s also a likely place in the Hall of Fame.

“I have a great plan,’’ GGG said. “I have a lot of appointments. Congrats today Canelo, congrats fans. Remember, I’m still champion at 160. I come back guys, I’m still champion. I want to shake hands with Canelo. If you don’t understand, you don’t understand anything.”

He shook hands. He also gained some hard-earned appreciation from a crowd that sounded hostile before the bout and throughout the early rounds

The chants started early. Ca-nel-o, Ca-nel-o. Me-he-co, Me-he-co. One sounded like the other. A man and his country, in sync in song and purpose.

Canelo started early, too, energized by a roaring crowd seemingly attached to him like the green, white and red on the Mexican flag

The opening bell sounded not long after some in the crowd booed the Kazakhstan anthem. Golovkin had to hear it. The echoes shook the building. But it was impossible to detect if they had any impact on GGG, a somewhat enigmatic edifice throughout his long career at the top of the middleweight division.

He made his ring walk through hostility, looking very much like prey headed to slaughter. But he endured Canelo’s early assaults and countered with some of his own late.

In the end, he survived and kept himself in an argument without an answer.

Or a clear-cut winner.

Jesse Rodriguez struggles, yet wins unanimous decision

Jesse Rodriguez promised super-stardom. The promise is still there. But for one night it went unfulfilled.

Nothing super about Rodriguez Saturday night.

He struggled throughout  a dull performance in a 115-pound title defense against Israel Gonzalez in the last fight before Canelo Alvarez-Gennediy Golovkin at T-Mobile Arena.

Put it this way: The super-fly champion was a super disappointment. Rodriguez survived, winning a unanimous decision over Israel Gonzalez by some questionable scores. It was 118-100 on one card. It was 117-110 on another. Only a 114-113 card appeared to be accurate.

Rodriguez (17-0, 11 KOs), a likable little guy from San Antonio and a leading contender Fighter of the Year, never had any of the stuff indicated by his nickname.There was no Bam. 

For a while, there was more bum than bam. 

Rodriguez was warned for one blow. He then was penalized one point for one that put Gonzalez on his hands and knees. In the eleventh, Rodriguez put Gonzalez (28-5-1, 11 KOs), of Mexico, down again. Video showed it was another low. But referee Kenny Bayless didn’t see it on a night when a couple of judges didn’t see much either.

Ali Akhmedov scores shutout decision over Rosado

Ali Akhmedov had it all.  There was precision. There was power. Put them together, and the result was a shutout.

Akhmedov (19-1, 14 KOs), Gennadiy Golovkin’s fellow Kazak, had all the points, too, winning every round in a one-sided decision over Gabe Rosado (26-16-1, 15 KOs) in the second fight on the DAZN pay-per-view card featuring Canelo-GGG 3. Rosado’s counter was only his toughness. It allowed the Philadelphia fighter to go the distance, 10 rounds. But there was nothing on his side of the judges’ cards.  

Austin Williams wins unanimous decision

Houston middleweight Austin Williams calls himself Ammo. He had just enough of it to score a unanimous decision over Kieron Conway to open the DAZ pay-per-view card featuring the third Canelo Alvarez-Gennady Golovkin fight Saturday night.

Williams (12-0, 10 KOs) scored a quick knockdown in the ninth round. It put him in control of an otherwise dull bout. Conway (10-3-1, 4 KOs), of the UK, didn’t have enough power to hurt Williams.He also lacked the kind of power he needed to keep Williams off of him.

Diego Pacheco scored fifth-round TKO

Call it the boom before the pay-per-view.

Los Angeles super-middleweight Diego Pacheco (16-0, 13 KOs) closed the non-televised portion of the Canelo-GGG3  show with the kind of finish that begged for an encore. 

Canelo promised a knockout. 

Pacheco delivered one.

He dropped Puerto Rican Enrigue Collazo (16-3-1, 11 KOs) onto the canvas in a knockdown that echoed throughout a mostly-empty T-Mobile Arena.  Seconds later at 2:29 of the fifth round, it was over, a fight stopped after it was evident that Collazo  had been left dazed and defenseless.. 

Lightweight Marc Castro scores scary KO

It was beautiful. Scary, too

Fresno lightweight Marc Castro (8-0, 6 KOs) delivered it — a right-uppercut — precisely and powerfully, knocking Kevin Montiel Mendoza (6-2-2, 3 KOs) flat on his back in dramatic a fifth-round KO in the third fight on the non-televised portion of the Canelo Alvarez-Gennadiy Golvkin 3 card.

Mendoza remained motionless for several long moments as the ringside physician and his cornermen stood over him. Finally, he was helped to his feet and on to a stool, where he sat, also for several long moments. Then, Castro walked across the ring to make sure he was KO. That’s when Mendoza climbed to his feet and congratulated his powerful foe, a stoppage winner at 1:40 of the fifth.

Aaron Aponte and Fernando Molina battled to an eight-round split draw in a super lightweight contest.

In round two, Aponte dropped Molina with a left hook to the head. In round four, it was a combination that was finished off by a right to the head that put Molina on the deck.

Aponte is now 6-0-1. Molina is 8-0-1

Anthony Herrera won a five-round technical unanimous decision over Delvin Mckinney in a six-round super flyweight bout.

McKinney was cut and could not continue. Herrera won by scores of 50-45 on all cards.

Herrera is 3-0-1. McKinney is 4-4-1.

Ali Akhmedov and Gabriel Rosado will clash for the IBF North American Super-Middleweight title on Saturday September 17 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, as part of the undercard to the trilogy clash between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Gennadiy ‘GGG’ Golovkin. The event, presented by Matchroom, Canelo Promotions and GGG Promotions, will broadcast live on DAZN Pay-Per-View in the U.S. and Canada as well as around the world on DAZN (excluding Mexico, Latin America, and Kazakhstan).

Akhmedov (18-1 14 KOs), promoted by GGG Promotions, bagged a pair of wins inside the distance in 2021 in California to get his path to major title fights back on track after suffering a final round KO defeat to Carlos Gongora in their clash for the IBO strap in December 2020.

That was Akhmedov’s third fight on a card topped by his fellow countryman, promoter and Kazakh legend Golovkin, and the big hitting 27 year old will be looking to use the biggest of stages to impress against the Philly star.

Rosado (26-15-1 15 KOs) enjoyed thrilling success against his last eastern European foe, landing a knockout of the year contender when he landed a stunning right hook to demolish the unbeaten Uzbek rising star Bektemir Melikuziev in the third round of their clash in El Paso in June 2021.

Rosado who boxed GGG for the World Middleweight title in January 2013, has tangled with two contenders in his recent bouts, being edged out via majority decision by Shane Mosley Jr in April after taking Jaime Munguia the distance in November – making this a must-win for the 36 year old.

“I’m happy to be a part of this show on DAZN PPV,” said Akhmedov. “It is a great opportunity for me to demonstrate my skills, especially against such seasoned opponent as Gabriel Rosado.  Rosado is very experienced and has a history of fighting the best talents in this division which motivates me even more.”

Diego Pacheco fights for his first pro belt when he meets Enrique Collazo for the WBC USNBC Silver Super-Middleweight title and Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams taking on Kieron Conway for the vacant WBA International Middleweight title, all leading into the third installment of the classic modern rivalry between Canelo and Golovkin, with the Mexican king putting his undisputed Super-Middleweight crown on the line against Kazakhstan’s reigning WBA and IBF Middleweight ruler in the most anticipated match up of 2022.

Ryan Garcia came back from a 160month layoff to drop and take a 12-round unanimous decision over Emmanuel Tagoe at The Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

In round two, Garcia dropped Tagoe in with an uppercut. Garcia was able to control the ring as he used his size to hurt Tagoe several more times that had the Ghanaian holding on several more times.

Garcia landed 165 of 599 punches; Tagoe was 90 of 391.

Garcia, 138.8 lbs of Victorville, CA won by scores of 119-108 twice and 118-109 and is now 22-0. Tagoe, 138.2 lbs of Accra, GHA is 32-2.

“He was making it difficult for me to end it,” said Ryan Garcia. “He was crafty with the holding, and I was trying to get him off me, and he was moving a lot; it was a new experience. I think I have to cut the ring off better with a guy who will keep moving all 12 rounds. I made sure to get him in the body a lot and used my left hook to hurt him. I have a lot of love for San Antonio. It was great that after a year and a half layoff, I was received by such a great crowd. It’s a blessing. I wanted to knock him out, but he was very crafty. At the moment, I could feel like I hurt him, but he really can take a punch.”

“First of all I want to thank my team,” said Emmanuel Tagoe. “I know the reason why I lost. I didn’t throw my right arm. He came forward but I couldn’t get any points from pushing. I think I’m going to go home and sit down with my team. Ryan Garcia is a good boxer.”

Shane Mosley Jr. Decisions Gabriel Rosado

Shane Mosley Jr. scored the biggest win of his career by winning a 10-round majority decision over former world title challenger Gabriel Rosado in a super middleweight fight.

Mosey landed 172 of 600 punches; Rosado was 124 of 517.

Mosley dominated the action, and rocked Rosado several times as he took the cards by scores of 98-92, 97-93 and 95-95.

Mosley, 167 lbs of Pomona, CA is 18-4. Rosado, 167.8 lbs of Philadelphia 26-15-1.

“They know who I am now,” said Shane Mosley, Jr. “Gabriel is a great champ. We have to see what’s available. Right now 168 is tied up. Canelo has all the belts. Unless he vacates or fights someone else. I mean who’s going to turn down Canelo. I moved to 168 for the opportunity.”

Marlen Esparza Unifies Flyweight Titles

Marlen Esparza retained her WBC and captured the WBA Flyweight title with a tough 10-round unanimous decision over Nakoka Fujioka.

Esparza landed 120 of 436 punches; Fujioka was 107 of 418.

Esparza, 111.4 lbs of Houston, TX won by scores of 100-90 twice and 97-93 to go to 12-1. The 100-90 scores were much wider then the fight was as Fujioka won several rounds clearly. Fujioka, 111.6 lbs of Tokyo, JAP is 19-3-1.

“I thought it was a really good performance considering how hard she brings it,” said Marlen Esparza. “She’s a very seasoned fighter, she’s a world champion. I’m proud we did everything we practiced, me and my couch James Cooper. We really executed well and we expected it to go that way. You don’t know what a world champion can bring. We had to be patient and see what she had to bring to the table. It wasn’t tough because of the punches but more because she was smothering. I’m really just grateful I could have this experience not only for womens’ boxing but for my fans and really solidify the division. I really want the next two belts. ‘La Bonita’ from Argentina is the one I want, but I have to let my team decide what’s next. I’m happy for the future.”

Hovhannisyan stops Aguero in 2

Azat Havhannisyan stopped Dagoberto Aguero in round two of a scheduled 10-round featherweight fight,

In round two, Aguero came shot out of a cannon, but Hovhannisyan was able to drop Aguero with a hard right. Aguero was hurt and was sent to the canvas again with a huge flurry. With Aguero on rubbery legs, Hovhannisyan rocked Aguero several more times until the fight was stopped at 1:11.

Hovhannisyan, 124.2 lbs of Los Angeles is 21-3 with 17 knockouts. Aguero, 122.8 lbs of San Cristobal, DR is 15-2.

“I was planning on escalating the fight as it went on,” said Azat Hovhannisyan. “That was just the second round pace. I was warming up. When I landed the first body shot I knew I was going to hurt him.”

The scheduled 10-round super middleweight bout between Patrick Teixeira and Paul Valenzuela ended bizarrely as the fight was waved off in round two after Teixeira hit Valenzuela in the back of the head twice and Teixeira was disqualified.

The two punches looked to barely hit the head, yet Valenzuela reacted like the punches landed very hard and he could not continue.

Valenzuela, 168.4 lbs of Santa Rosalia, MEX is 27-11. Teixeira, 162.4 lbs of Sao Paulo, BRA is 31-3.

In a battle of undefeated featherweights, Katsuma Akitsugi won a a eight-round unanimous decision over Gregory Morales.

Akitsugi, 125.4 lbs of Hollywood, CA won by scores of 80-2 twice and 78-74 and is 9-0. Morales, 125.8 lbs of San Antonio, TX is 13-1.

“I want to thank my trainer and my sponsor,” said Katsuma Akitsugi. “ I’ve been through a lot and they helped me be more focused. I’m always training hard, no days off. So when they call me I don’t lose my opportunity.” 

Tristan Kalkreuth scored a spectacular second-round stoppage over former world title challenger Santander Silgado in a six-round heavyweight bout.

In round two, Kalkreuth landed a booming right that sent Silgado down on his back for the 10-count at

Kalkreuth, 219.4 lbs of Duncanville, TX is 9-1 with seven knockouts. Silgado, 242 lbs of Panama City, PAN is 30-12.

“I’m very blessed to be here and be back where I am,” said Tristan Kalkreuth. “It’s a lot of emotions right now. I felt good. I was anxious and a little nervous. I’ve been out of the ring for 8 months. I was curious to see how my arm would feel. I went in and threw a right hand, it felt 100.

George Rincon remained undefeated with a10-round unanimous decision over Alejandro Frias in a welterweight bout.

In round two, Rincon scored a knockdown.

In round eight Rincon was cut on his forehead from a head butt. Frias was deducted a point for that.

Rincon, 138.4 lbs of Dallas, TX won by scores of 96-91 twice and 98-89, and is now 13-0. Frias, 141 lbs of Tepic, MX is 13-6-2.

“That was obviously my toughest fight to date,” said George Rincon. He was a very rugged fighter, I knew that coming into the fight. But this experience is only going to make me better. I was able to identify things that I still have to work on.” 

Hector Valdez Jr. remained undefeated with an eight-round unanimous decision over Daniel Moncada in a super bantamweight fight.

In round three, Valdez was cut on his hairline.

In round five, Valdez was credited with a knockdown after landing a left hook that put Moncada on the canvas. In round six, Moncada was bleeding over his left eye.

Valdez, 121 lbs of Dallas, TX won by scores of 80-71, 79-72 and 78-73 and is now 15-0. Moncada, 121.8 lbs of Mexico City is 15-6-2.

“I feel really rusty,” said Hector Valdez Jr. “ I think I could’ve taken him out if I trained more. It’s the first fight in over a year. I hurt him but he was really crafty to get in and hit him. There were punches there but as soon as I threw them he would move a little and they would go off course.”

Santos Ortega remained undefeated with a second-round stoppage over Jesus Martinez in a scheduled six-round featherweight bout

In Round two, Martinez was cut over his right eye. Seconds later, Ortega landed a hard combination in the corner the sent Martinez down. Martinez tried to get up but was counted out.

Ortega, 125.8 lbs of Sacramento, CA is 7-0 with three knockouts. Martinez, 124.4 lbs of Hollywood, FL is 30-16-1.

2012 Bronze Olympic medal winner and current WBC Flyweight World Champion Marlen Esparza is seeking to make history again as she fights to be the first woman crowned as the Ring Magazine Flyweight World Champion. Jaime Munguia won a 12-round unanimous decision over Gabriel Rosado in a middleweight bout at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Califormia.

It was an exciting fights with both fighters standing toe-to-toe for most of the fight, but Mungua won by scores of 119-109, 118-110 and 117-111.

“I feel like I am still 25, I feel great, I am blessed, I am healthy. In this fight he is the younger guy and I understand what it means to be the younger fighter. But I need to use my experience and my boxing ability to make him pay for his mistakes.

“You can teach a lot, but you can’t teach experience. I feel like I have fought the tougher fighters so I definitely have experience on my side. Like I said, I am healthy, I am strong. I am not fading. I am just getting better.

The welterweight fight will be preceded by a 10-round middleweight bout between top contender D’Mitrus Ballard (20-0-1, 11KOs) of Temple Hill, Maryland, and Mexico’s Paul Valenzuela, Jr. (26-9, 17KOs). The DAZN show opener will feature Mexico’s undefeated, heavy-handed, lightweight rising star, William Zepeda (23-0, 21KOs), facing off against Miami’s John Moralde (24-4, 13KOs) in a 10-round fight for the WBA Continental America’s Lightweight title. The Southern California native is returning to the Honda Center as a top-rising welterweight contender who has steadily climbed the rankings by successfully defeating tough competitors like Berlin Abreu, Roberto Valenzuela Jr., and Brad Solomon.

“I expect a lot from myself. I expect to be a main event star in the sport. “Rosado won, he won his lottery ticket in his last fight, you know when he knocked out Bek [Bektemir Melikuzie] Bek “The Bully. He had such a great knockout that, you know, everybody, the fans, everybody was clamoring for this fight.

“It’s the type of fight that Munguía needs to establish himself in that division. You know, in many ways, Rosado’s been around, and he’s got great experience. He’s kind of like the keeper at the gate in the middleweight and super middleweight divisions. This is a great example of records not really meaning anything because he’s always dangerous. If Munguía can get past him, this will establish him as one of the top players in the division.

“The sky’s the limit, the sky’s the limit [for Munguia], but he needs these types of fights so that he can establish himself so that he can prove that he belongs. Yeah, he won the [world] title when he was very young, and he fought a smaller guy in Saddam Ali. We’ve been bringing him along, and he moved up to 160. These are the type of fights he needs so that he can establish himself in the division.

“It’s always good. It’s always good to announce fights and get positive feedback. It’s not always the case. We always try to please the fans. I mean, that’s first and foremost. You want to please the fans and make the fights that they want. You got to kind of keep your ear to the ground and listen to the chatter and what they’re talking about. A lot of fans were talking about this fight after Rosado’s last win, they wanted this fight, and we heard them loud and clear. I’m just happy we were able to get it done. It’s going to be a great fight.

“[Gabriel Rosado] is as dangerous as they come. I mean, you know we’ve been working with him for many, many years, it seems like over 10 years. I just think back to all the fights where he was supposed to be an opponent, and he came out either with a draw or a win. He’s just that type of guy. The great thing about Gabe Rosado now, when you talk to him versus when we first started working with him over 10 years ago, is that he’s so much more mature. He takes everything a little more professional. His discipline’s better, his motivations are better. He’s got a family now, so that always seems to settle a fighter down. He’s always in shape. He’s always working out. Those are the guys that are dangerous. The guys that are always in the gym. The guys that are always ready to fight. Those are the most dangerous guys.

“You can see the progression in [Munguia]. He’s learning from one of the best, one of the masters, one of the greatest fighters out of Mexico in Érik Morales. He’s a multi-division champion, multi-champion. Who fought all the top fighters in the world. That experience, you can’t buy that experience. To have someone like that in your corner, the psyche that he has, the mindset that he has, it’s been great for [Munguia]. Munguia is still very, very young but having a guy like Érik Morales with him is a huge plus.

“Whenever you have Mexico versus Puerto Rico, whether it’s Mexican-American, whether it’s Mexican, whether it’s Puerto Rican America, you name it. It’s always going to be a fun fight. It’s always going to be a great fight. The thing about the Mexican fight fans is that they’re very educated when it comes to boxing, and they have a great deal of respect for the Puerto Ricans. Yes, they want to beat them, you want your guy to win, but they also know and understand the rich history of Puerto Rico. There’s going to be a lot of Gabe Rosado supporters there, too, believe it or not. Here in the L.A. area, he has won over the fans. They really, truly do respect him because he’s a warrior because he gives it his all because he’s in there to either try to knock you out or he will get knocked out. They love that whenever you have a fighter that’s that disciplined, that dedicated to his craft, that you can’t help but root for him. Yes, Jaime is going to be the favorite. Jaime is going to have the backyard fans that are going to be around for him, but don’t be fooled; Rosado’s going to have a lot of supporters as well. Rosado trains in Hollywood with Freddie Roach at Wild Card.

‘KING’ GABRIEL ROSADO, MIDDLEWEIGHT CONTENDER

“Well, I think the last couple fights since I actually linked up with Freddie Roach, I think it shows. This is an improved Gabe Rosado. I have experience; I’m putting in the work. Yes, my record is deceiving. I wasn’t the guy with the machine behind me, with the big promoters, big management behind me, so a lot of times, I went into fights where the other guy was the favorite. And there have been fights that should have gone my way, where I got the shit-end of the stick. And it showed in the Danny Jacobs fight. I just saw that fight, and I was like, ‘wow, clearly I out-boxed him.’ But you know, that’s just the beauty of it, that the fans get to see it, and the fans at the end of the day can’t be fooled. I made a statement in my last fight, which I think will be ‘Knock Out of The Year.’ So we’re excited about this Munguia fight.

“I’m excited, but I am not going to give up the game plan, obviously. I want to do a little bit of everything. I’m going to bang, I’m gonna move, I’m gonna box, and I’m going in to win. I’m not just going to win on the scorecards; I want to get a knockout. I want to keep that momentum going because I think it’s important. These are the kinds of fights where it has to live up to the expectations of the fans. So you have to be a hundred percent, and you gotta be willing to be all in, in the ring. He could have gone with his mandatory, so you have to respect the guy that says, ‘no, I want Rosado.’ He is willing to give the fans what they want, and that’s what makes this fight special, that t’s a fight that the fans asked for. In boxing nowadays, with the politics, it’s hard to give the fans what they want. This right here is just like an early Christmas gift for the fans. It’s gonna be lit.”
