Here is what the fighters had to say Wednesday from MGM Grand in Las Vegas:

DAVID BENAVIDEZ

“A win on Saturday lets me know that I’m fulfilling my destiny. I know that I’m gonna be an all-time great when it’s all said and done. I’m just gonna continue showing everyone that I’m the best in the world.

I’ve worked extremely hard for this. Five months of training camp. The only thing I’ve seen in my vision is victory. I’m gonna make sure you get your money’s worth on May 2.

“I’m a different type of fighter than everyone else. I’ve been fighting the best in the world again and again.

“Camp has been amazing. I’m very excited and ready to showcase my skills on Saturday night in front of all those fans.

“I’ve been on weight since last week. I’m gonna come in with a tremendous energy. I really can’t wait.”

GILBERTO “ZURDO” RAMIREZ

“It’s an honor to be here and I’m super excited. This is Cinco de Mayo. This is for all my Mexican people.

“I always knew this would be the kind of fight that people were going to want to see. When it finally came around, I was ready to do it.

“Every fight is tough and every fight is different. The only thing I know, is that on May 2 we’re gonna make history.

“I’m the best. Zurdo mejor. I’m the champion and I’m gonna keep the belt. We’re going to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with a big party!”

ARMANDO RESENDIZ

“It’s simple. I just have to go out there, listen to my corner and enjoy every single minute of it. We’re gonna put on a show and give everyone a great night.

“This could not be more exciting for me. I’m the champ and it feels amazing. I’m enjoying the moment. That’s all you can do. Enjoy this and go for the win on Saturday night.

“Every single fight on this card is outstanding, but I know that my fight is gonna be very entertaining. The only goal is to go home with the belt in my arms.”

JAIME MUNGUIA

“I’ve been here before, but now you’re gonna see a more mature Jaime Munguia. I’m hungry and ready to take the title. We’re gonna put on a show on May 2.

“When two Mexican fighters are inside the ring, you get a great fight. This is no exception. You’re gonna see two warriors out there.

“We’re gonna go in there and look for the knockout. We’re gonna make this a spectacle and get the win.

“I promise that you’re gonna see Jaime Munguia as a two-time world champion on Saturday night. I’m gonna come out on top.”

OSCAR DUARTE

“I’m really proud to be part of this. There’s a long storied history of Mexican fighters competing here in Las Vegas and this card is chock full of fighters prime to make history as well. I’m here to show my best and let everyone know what I’m capable of.

“Fierro is an aggressive fighter, and so am I. The only way to neutralize his aggressiveness is for me to come forward and show him what I’m all about.

“I promise that I’m gonna give everyone a great fight. I’m ready for it.

“I’m here to face the best. I want to go up against the best that the 140-pound division has to offer, and one fighter in particular, Pitbull Cruz.”

ANGEL FIERRO

“I’m gonna go out there and put on a show like I always do. I’m gonna leave my blood, sweat and tears inside the ring. I’m doing this for Tijuana!

“I love being the underdog. I’m here to spoil the party. I gave everyone an amazing fight with Pitbull Cruz and I’m gonna do that again against Duarte.

“I’m here to steal the show. It’s hard to do with all the names on this card. It’s a tall task, but we’re gonna delight the fans and I’m gonna come out with a win.

“This is gonna put me on the doorstep to even bigger fights. I’m talking about world title opportunities. But the first thing is Duarte on Saturday night.”

JORGE CHAVEZ

“Training camp has been great. We’re preparing for a war and excited to perform on this tremendous card.

“I was better than ever in my last fight and fans can expect the same thing on Saturday. I’m gonna be the best version of myself.

“When I win, I want Naoya Inoue. I want to face the best. That’s the bottom line, and that all starts on Saturday night.

“You can expect no less than a war. You know the Mexicans are prime to deliver that.”

JOSE “TITO” SANCHEZ

“I’m really excited to be on a big Mexican style card like this. I’m extremely glad to be in this position.

“I’ve just been staying in camp with Joel Diaz. I’m always locked in and ready. I can’t wait to perform on Saturday.

“I think Benavidez is getting a stoppage in the main event for sure.”

ISAAC LUCERO

“My aim is to keep improving and be in position to go after bigger and better goals, like a world title. I just want to get better day in and day out.

“I’m a warrior above all. But I’m also going to listen to my corner, because I trust them. What I do in the gym is what sets me up for success.

“You can expect a true Cinco de Mayo battle on Saturday. This is gonna be all-out war. You’re not gonna want to miss it.

“I’m just focused on getting the win. Flores has his own goals, but I’m just focused on what I need to do to come out with my hand raised.”

DAVID BENAVIDEZ LOOKS TO MAKE HISTORY IN CRUISERWEIGHT DEBUT HEADLINING CINCO DE MAYO WEEKEND ACTION THIS SATURDAY!

LAS VEGAS – April 27, 2026 – Undefeated two-division champion David “El Monstro” Benavidez will look to make history as he jumps up to the cruiserweight division to headline a stacked Cinco de Mayo weekend against unified WBA and WBO Cruiserweight World Champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez in the main event of a PBC Pay-Per-View available on Prime Video this Saturday, May 2 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The 29-year-old Benavidez can become the first fighter to win full world titles at 168, 175 and 200 pounds if he can grab the belts from Ramirez in a first-of-its-kind Mexico vs. Mexico matchup that will also serve as Benavidez’s first foray into the cruiserweight division.

“Continuing to move up and challenge world champions shows everyone that I’m serious about what I do, and that I believe in my skills 100%,” said Benavidez. “Making more history on May 2 would mean the world to me. At this point in my life, I just want to reach greatness. Winning these titles will definitely put me back in position to continue to push for more greatness. I’m just really happy with where I’m at in my career, and with all the risks I’m taking, because I believe it will all pay off when my career is all said and done.”

With this move up in weight, Benavidez plans to use the extra weight to his advantage, and combine newfound power with the speed and combination punching that’s made him so devastating at super middleweight and light heavyweight.

“I feel like this weight is definitely gonna help me,” said Benavidez. “Once you get to this weight, the punches are bigger. When you combine that power with my speed, I bring something to the cruiserweight division that hasn’t been seen since James Toney. My speed is superb and it’s just on a different level. This is gonna be the best David Benavidez that you see.”

Trained in Miami and then Las Vegas leading into May, Benavidez also explained how he’ll be entering this fight with no concerns about making weight for the first time and detailed how that will help him be at his best on May 2.

“My training camp hasn’t really changed, but this is the most stress-free I’ve ever been,” said Benavidez. “Training is always gonna be hard, but I got to the weight a week ago already. I’ve never been in a position where I don’t have to worry about the weight, and that’s gonna make me more dangerous.

“When you cut weight you’re running like seven miles every single day. Right now I don’t have to run at all. I don’t have to deplete myself, and I can use that extra energy in the fight.”

The reigning WBC and WBA champion at light heavyweight, Benavidez does believe that one day he’ll eventually try to make a run at a heavyweight title. However, that time is not now as his intent is still to go back to 175-pounds and unify all the titles.

“A heavyweight title would be great for my legacy, but I’m not interested in that right now,” said Benavidez. “If I go up to heavyweight, that will be later in my career. I want to go back down to 175 and win all the rest of the belts and reign there for a little bit. I definitely think heavyweight is in my future, but not right now.”

**DANIEL BLANCAS VS. RAUL SALOMON**

A stablemate of headliner David Benavidez, Daniel Blancas will put his undefeated record on the line against dangerous Mexican veteran Raul Salomon in a 10-round super middleweight affair.

Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Blancas (14-0 7 KOs) is unbeaten since turning pro in 2022 and will make his 2026 debut following an impressive three-win 2025. The 24-year-old opened the year with a dominant unanimous decision triumph over the previously unbeaten Juan Barajas, before scoring an explosive first round knockout of Kwame Ritter in May. Most recently, Blancas stopped William Townsel in three rounds in December.

“I’m honored to be headlining on Prime Video on May 2,” said Blancas. “This is an incredible card and I can’t wait to give the fans an exciting fight and show my skills. This is gonna be a great night Cinco de Mayo weekend.”

The 27-year-old Salomon (16-3-1, 14 KOs) is unbeaten in his last five outings, including his last bout that saw him stop Juan Carlos Perez Rojo in two rounds in February. A native of Ciudad Morelos, Baja California, Mexico, Salomon has never been stopped, with his three decision defeats coming to opponents with a combined record of 36-1-1 at the time he faced them. He racked up eight-straight stoppage wins after turning pro in October 2020 and has plenty of experience fighting stateside as he prepares for his ninth U.S. outing.

“I’m very prepared for May 2,” said Salomon. “I really feel like I belong in this position and I’m eager to show everyone that this is just the beginning for me.”

**JUAN CARRILLO VS. MARLO DELGADO**

In a rare battle of Olympians with undefeated pro records, Colombia’s Juan Carrillo will go up against Ecuador’s Marlo Delgado in an eight-round light heavyweight attraction.

A native of boxing-rich Barranquilla, Colombia, Carrillo (14-0, 10 KOs) represented his home country at the 2016 Olympics before turning pro in 2019. The 33-year-old now trains in Las Vegas as he looks to build on his most recent outing, a February 2025 first-round KO of Cristian Andres Pena. Currently ranked number 23 by the WBC, Carrillo owns a victory over then unbeaten Richard Vansiclen as well as amateur triumphs over former champion Hassan N’Dam and former title challenger Liam Williams.

“Marlo Delgado is a tough fighter, and I respect anybody who steps in the ring, but I see openings in his style that I’m gonna take advantage of,” said Carrillo. “I’m coming into this fight with a chip on my shoulder and ready to fight like everything is on the line, because it is. Fans can expect action. I’m not here to coast. I’m here to dominate and make it clear I’m a problem in this division.”

After representing his native Ibarra, Ecuador at the 2012 Olympics, Delgado (8-0, 6 KOs) continued to have a prolific amateur career that included sharing the ring with a who’s who of big names including Dmitry Bivol, Terrell Gausha and Christian Mbilli, in addition to triumphs over notable names such as Misael Rodriguez and Endry Saavedra. The 32-year-old began his pro journey in 2019, with his eight fights split between Ecuador and Panama ahead of his U.S. debut on May 2.

“I’m extremely motivated to show what I’m capable of on May 2,” said Delgado. “This is the kind of opportunity I need to prove that I’m ready for the next level. This is going to be a really exciting fight between two Olympians who want to be world champion. I can’t wait to work my hardest to steal the show.”

**DYLAN CAPETILLO VS. TBA**

The son of renowned trainer Jorge Capetillo, Dylan Capetillo (1-0, 1 KOs) recently made his pro debut at just 17-years-old, blasting out Jesus Antonio Rios Castro in one round on April 11. Following up on an impressive amateur career, the Las Vegas-native looks to add another victory when he steps in for a four-round welterweight bout on May 2.

ARMANDO RESENDIZ TRAINING CAMP QUOTES

SOUTH GATE, CA. – April 22, 2026 – WBA Super Middleweight World Champion Armando “Toro” Reséndiz will look to take down another 168-pound star and build off of his 2025 on Cinco de Mayo weekend against all-action former champion Jaime Munguia in the co-main event of the Benavidez vs. Zurdo PBC Pay-Per-View event available on Prime Video Saturday, May 2 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

In his return to action after scoring one of last year’s biggest upsets against former world champion Caleb Plant, Reséndiz will step in to face elite competition once again as he makes his first title defense against the dangerous brawler Munguia, a veteran of seven world title fights.

The affable 27-year-old from Nayarit, Mexico fought into the 12th round for the first time in his title-winning battle against Plant, putting himself in position for another career-defining win that could make him a star of Cinco de Mayo weekends to come.

Tickets for the live event are on sale now through www.AXS.com.

The event is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and Sampson Boxing in association with TGB Promotions. Reséndiz vs. Munguia is promoted in association with Warriors Boxing and Zanfer Boxing Promotions.

In addition to the PPV being available for purchase on Prime Video, regardless of Prime membership, fans will also be able to purchase the PPV via DAZN.com. On top of those options, fans will also be able to continue to access the telecast through traditional cable and satellite outlets, as well as PPV.com.

Here is what Reséndiz had to say about Munguia and more, from his training camp in California with renowned trainer Manny Robles:

ARMANDO RESENDIZ

“I have to stay focused until the final bell and give my absolute best. Munguia says his experience will be the difference, but Plant was more experienced than me too. He had faced bigger names, but I’m a fighter who keeps getting better and better—there are no limits. That’s what I want to show people on May 2.

“I’ve studied him (Munguía) quite a bit. I’ve been watching him since I was starting my climb as a professional. He’s a gritty Mexican boxer with a wealth of experience.

“Being in this position is a huge motivation and a great responsibility. I’m eager to prove that I’m built for great things and I believe that’s exactly what we’ll do.

“The responsibilities have grown a bit more since winning the title. I have to be even more focused in the gym. I’ve had excellent sparring sessions with great boxers, including Terrell Gausha.

“I enjoyed every stage, every moment, every training session, and every pre-fight interview in the run-up to the Plant fight. I was focused on doing everything with my full enthusiasm and that ultimately showed in the final product.

“Overcoming adversity defines me as a warrior. A fighter who doesn’t give up so easily. Faith has been something that’s kept me standing and moving forward, believing that good things will come.

“I tend to stay focused in the present, but I like to watch my past fights and see how I’ve progressed over the years. I watch my fights and say, ‘I know what I was thinking at that moment, but maybe it wasn’t the right thing.’ It inspires me to keep improving and learning new things.”

**ISAAC LUCERO VS. ISMAEL FLORES**

Fresh off a pair of KO victories in 2025, undefeated rising contender Isaac “Puro México” Lucero will look to bring that momentum into 2026 as he steps in against the power punching Ismael Flores, who makes his U.S. debut in this eight-round super welterweight showdown.

The 27-year-old Lucero (18-0, 14 KOs) turned pro in 2019 after an amateur career that saw him earn five national medals representing Mexico. A native of La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico, Lucero has stopped his last seven opponents entering May 2, and also owns a pair of 10-round unanimous decision triumphs. In looking to make his U.S. takeover, Lucero has set up camp in Las Vegas, where he is trained by renowned coach Bob Santos. Most recently, Lucero dominated veteran Roberto Valenzuela Jr. in December, stopping the fight at the end of round 8.

“I’m very grateful to my team, and everyone who worked to make this possible,” said Lucero. “Fighting on Cinco de Mayo weekend is every Mexican boxer’s dream, and I accept this challenge with the upmost professionalism, as I’ll be facing the most important challenge of my career on this huge stage. I will show everyone why I’m ‘Puro México!’”

Originally from Argentina, Flores (17-1-1, 12 KOs) moved to Spain to pursue his boxing dreams and has put together an impressive record fighting out of the country since 2021. The 27-year-old has won seven straight fights since a decision defeat to Jorge Fortea in 2023, including five-straight wins inside of the distance. Most recently, Flores added two knockouts to that streak in 2025, blasting out Johan Nova in two rounds in March before a ninth-round stoppage victory over Oliver Quintana Sanchez in October.

“I’m so excited about this fight, it’s the kind of fight I’ve wanted for a long time,” said Flores. “This fight is going to change my life. I’ve never stopped training, so I was more than ready to jump on this opportunity. I’m in great shape and I’m going to surprise everyone. I’m coming to stay in the U.S. for a long time.”

**JORGE CHAVEZ VS. JOSE “TITO” SANCHEZ**

In a super bantamweight attraction, undefeated rising contenders square off as Jorge Chavez and Jose “Tito” Sanchez step into the ring for a 10-round showdown that sets the winner up with a career-best victory on their path to a world title.

The 26-year-old Chavez (15-0-1, 8 KOs) returns to action after kicking off 2026 by avenging the only blemish on his record. Chavez scored a unanimous decision in January over Manuel Flores after the combatants had previously battled to a majority draw last July. Originally from Tijuana and now training in Orange County, Chavez’s two bouts against Flores were his first two 10 rounds bouts after he won a pair of nearly shutout eight rounds decisions in his prior two outings. A pro since 2021, Chavez’s January victory also earned him a California State Title at 122-pounds.

“I’m so thankful to be a fighter of Mexican descent competing on pay-per-view on the world’s biggest stage on Cinco de Mayo weekend,” said Chavez. “I’m grateful to my entire team for this chance to showcase my skills as part of such a huge event. I’ve worked so hard my entire life for this opportunity and I intend to put on a great show May 2. Viva Mexico!”

Representing Cathedral City, California, Sanchez (15-0. 9 KOs) is trained by the renowned Joel Diaz as he looks to make a statement in the super bantamweight division. The 26-year-old ended a 15-month layoff in January, as he stepped back into the ring to deliver a sixth-round knockout of Jesus Eduardo Ramirez Rubio. Sanchez had previously put together an impressive 2024 that saw him first turn back veteran Erik Ruiz via unanimous decision in April before scoring an eighth-round knockout of Edwin Palomares in October.

“On May 2, I will finally get my chance to fight on a huge card in Las Vegas and fulfill a dream I’ve had ever since I was a kid,” said Sanchez. “I’ve trained very hard to make it to this level, and I want to thank my family and my whole team for this opportunity to shine in front of the crowd in Las Vegas during this big boxing weekend. But your tickets and come out early to watch a great show.”

GILBERTO RAMIREZ, ARMANDO RESENDIZ, JAIME MUNGUIA & OSCAR DUARTE MEDIA WORKOUT QUOTES

HOLLYWOOD, CA. – April 17, 2026 – Unified WBA and WBO Cruiserweight World Champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez held a media workout in Los Angeles on Thursday ahead of his Cinco de Mayo Weekend showdown against undefeated two-division world champion David “El Monstro” Benavidez headlining a PBC Pay-Per-View event available on Prime Video on Saturday, May 2 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The workout also included WBA Super Middleweight World Champion Armando “Toro” Reséndiz and all-action former world champion Jaime Munguía, who square off in the explosive co-main event.

Also participating in the media workout was top contender Oscar Duarte, who takes on hard-hitting brawler Angel Fierro in a 10-round super lightweight attraction on the pay-per-view.

Duarte vs. Fierro is promoted in association with Cancun Boxing and BXSTRS.

In addition to the PPV being available for purchase on Prime Video, regardless of Prime membership, fans will also be able to purchase the PPV via DAZN.com. On top of those options, fans will also be able to continue to access the telecast through traditional cable and satellite outlets.

Here is what the fighters had to say Thursday from Brickhouse Boxing Club in Hollywood:

GILBERTO “ZURDO” RAMIREZ

“I’m so excited to headline this event. I believe we have the potential to give fans the ‘Fight of the Year’. While me and David Benavidez have sparred close to 200 rounds together over our careers, being in the ring for real is so much different. This will not just be a regular fight; this is going to be a war.

“Benavidez is bringing his aggression and forward style; I am bringing my movement. I think our styles will make for a great fight.

“Headlining Cinco de Mayo adds a lot of motivation for me. This date is for the legends of the sport. I’m ready to show everything I can do.

“The sparring with Benavidez happened a long time ago. Now we’re gonna jump in there with smaller gloves and no headgear. It’s gonna be very different on May 2. Everyone is gonna see.

“You need to make sure that you’re ready to add this much weight to your body when you move up from 175 pounds to cruiserweight like I did, and like he’s going to do for this fight. You have to be confident in your body and listen to your body.

“This card is full of can’t-miss Mexico vs. Mexico matches.”

ARMANDO RESENDIZ

“I’ve come so far since that fight against Plant and I’m really excited to be in this position. I’ve learned that adversity isn’t your enemy, but rather your teacher.”

“I’m staying focused in the moment, on what matters, and that’s going out there and winning. That keeps my feet on the ground and allows me to stay centered.”

“Being the hunted instead of the hunter is certainly a different, but my mindset doesn’t change, I’m ready to brawl.”

“I want the biggest fights and toughest opponents, but that’s not my focus. All I can do is win on May 2 and continue on to great things.”

JAIME MUNGUIA

“Experience is on my side, no doubt about it. I’ve faced the bigger names, I know my way through 12 rounds. I have the edge.”

“I’m going to go after the KO. I can’t predict a specific round, but I can guarantee that the fans will witness a show on May 2.”

“Having Eddy Reynoso in my corner is truly an honor. He provides me with the tools I need to feel confident throughout fight week and when I step into the ring.”

“So many things go through your head when you walk towards the ring to fight on Cinco de Mayo. It’s not just another day. Fighting on Cinco de Mayo is representing the Mexican fans.”

“Canelo and I have talked about Reséndiz before, and he told me that I have all the tools I need to come out on top.”

OSCAR DUARTE

“I feel so motivated and excited to be a part of this Cinco de Mayo card. I know Fierro from training at Robert Garcia’s gym, but we never had the opportunity to spar each other.

“I’m in my best shape, and I am entering the ring with a chip on my shoulder after everything that happened with Richardson Hitchins pulling out of our fight.

“The situation with the Hitchins fight was really tough mentally because I was prepared to fight for the world championship. But everything happens for a reason.

“I’m totally focused on what’s next for me, which is gonna be a great fight on May 2. That’s what motivates me.”

GILBERTO “ZURDO” RAMIREZ: “YOU HAVE TO BE A GREAT FIGHTER & A BIG NAME TO HEADLINE CINCO DE MAYO. NOW IT’S MY TIME!”

HOLLYWOOD, CA. – April 14, 2026 – Unified WBA and WBO Cruiserweight World Champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez plans to make the most of his opportunity to headline Cinco de Mayo Weekend in Las Vegas as he takes on undefeated two-division world champion David “El Monstro” Benavidez in the main event of a PBC Pay-Per-View event available on Prime Video on Saturday, May 2 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

“It’s an honor to be in this position,” said Ramirez (48-1, 30 KOs). “You have to be a great fighter and a big name to headline Cinco de Mayo Weekend. Now it’s my time.”

Benavidez vs. Zurdo will present a first of its kind Mexico vs. Mexico matchup, as the first championship showdown between Mexican fighters to take place above 168 pounds. For the Sinaloa-native Ramirez, this historic angle adds even more juice to the biggest fight of his career.

“Fighting another Mexican is extra motivation,” said Ramirez. “We’re making history. There’s never been a fight like this between Mexican fighters this big. It’s going to be an amazing night. We’re going to leave everything we have in the ring.”

On top of their shared heritage, Ramirez and Benavidez also have a shared history inside of the ring, as Benavidez was used as a sparring partner ahead of Ramirez’s first world title fight, a 2016 victory over Arthur Abraham. When reflecting on the sparring, Ramirez remembers high-level action that should preview what fans are on for on May 2.

“Our sparring sessions would have been a great pay-per-view,” said Ramirez. “We both know that each of us has a lot of skill that we’ll be bringing into the ring. But I’ve also grown a lot as a fighter since we sparred. I’ve gotten a lot more experience that I’m gonna take into this fight.”

When Ramirez and Benavidez first shared the ring, Benavidez was still a year and a half away from becoming the youngest super middleweight world champion in boxing history. While they would both continue to win as they moved up in weight, Ramirez shared that he’s watched Benavidez and thought about them stepping into the ring for real throughout their last decade of successes.

“I’ve thought about fighting for David for about 10 years,” said Ramirez. “I think we both wanted to fight each other for that long. Now the time is almost here. David is a great fighter. I’ve been watching him a lot over the years and keeping an eye on him, knowing that one day we’d get in there together.”

Throughout a career that saw Ramirez make five successful defenses of his 168-pound belt before a 5-1 run that ended in a decision loss to Dmitry Bivol, he has perhaps reached his peak on his current cruiserweight run. Following a title-winning performance over then unbeaten Arsen Goulamirian in March 2024, Ramirez unified his WBA title with WBO champion Chris Billiam-Smith via unanimous decision that November. He then turned away the dangerous former champion Yuniel Dorticos last June, but despite the recent run of wins, he believes his best performance will come on May 2.

“I think my last two performances have been good, but they’re not as great as this performance will be,” said Ramirez. “This is gonna be a war. We’re gonna give all the Mexican people a big party on May 2.”

On his matchup with Alan Sandoval:

“Sandoval comes from a part of Mexico that I’m very familiar with, so I know he’s coming to fight, he’s true warrior who carries himself with confidence. I respect what he has accomplished, but I also believe this is the kind of fight that reveals who is truly ready to take the next step. Styles will play a major role, and I see opportunities where my precision, patience, and execution will be the difference. This is going to be an all-out war!”

On his recent training camp in Las Vegas with Bob Santos:

“My time in Las Vegas with coach Bob Santos has been very productive. Bob is a teacher of the sport in the truest sense, he refines not only your technique, but your understanding of what it takes to be a champion. This camp has been about elevating every detail. We’ve focused on discipline, championship mentality, and ring intelligence. I feel more complete as a fighter and I’m ready for this challenge. There is a quiet confidence that comes from preparation at the highest level.”

On fighting in Las Vegas during Cinco de Mayo Weekend on an all-Mexican card on PPV:

“To fight in Las Vegas on Cinco de Mayo Weekend, on a card that celebrates Mexican fighters, is both an honor and a responsibility. This is a moment that carries me on to the global stage, it represents pride, history, and identity. To perform on this stage is something I do not take lightly. I intend to represent my country with dignity, with heart, and with a performance that reflects the tradition of Mexican boxing. Puro Mexico!”

On what a win will do for his career and his people back home in Mexico:

“A victory in this fight would be significant, not only for my career but for the people who have supported me from the beginning. I come from Baja California Sur, Mexico, and I carry that with me into every fight. This moment is about opening doors for myself, for my team, and for young fighters who are watching and believing that they can follow a similar path. Success is never individual…it belongs to everyone who has invested their faith in you. I want to give them something to be proud of.”

The action will also include Mexico vs. Mexico matchups featuring top contenders going toe-to-toe as Parral’s Oscar Duarte takes on Tijuana’s Angel Fierro in a 10-round super lightweight bout, while undefeated rising Mexican star from La Paz Isaac “Puro México” Lucero meets the Nochistlan-native and fellow unbeaten Alan Sandoval in a 10-round super welterweight opening clash. An additional pay-per-view undercard bout will be announced shortly.

The Cinco de Mayo Weekend pay-per-view lineup begins at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT and will lead into the first of its kind Mexico vs. Mexico duel between undefeated two-division world champion David “El Monstro” Benavidez and unified WBA and WBO Cruiserweight World Champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez in the main event.

The event is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and Sampson Boxing in association with TGB Promotions. Reséndiz vs. Munguia is promoted in association with Warriors Boxing and Zanfer Boxing Promotions. Duarte vs. Fierro is promoted in association with Cancun Boxing and BXSTERS.

In addition to the PPV being available for purchase on Prime Video, regardless of Prime membership, fans will also be able to purchase the PPV via DAZN.com. On top of those options, fans will also be able to continue to access the telecast through traditional cable and satellite outlets.

**ARMANDO RESENDIZ VS. JAIME MUNGUIA**

Looking to establish himself as the next Mexican star to dominate the 168-pound division, Armando “Toro” Reséndiz has wasted no time in seeking to bolster his resume as he will defend his WBA Super Middleweight World Championship against one of Mexico’s premier action fighters, the fan-friendly star Jaime Munguía, who will look to become a two-division world champion with a career-best victory over Reséndiz.

The 27-year-old Reséndiz (16-2, 11 KOs) pulled off one of 2025’s biggest upsets over former super middleweight world champion Caleb Plant last May with a ferocious performance to capture the interim title before being recently elevated. Trained by the renowned Manny Robles, the native of Guayabitos, Nayarit, Mexico was unbeaten in his first 12 fights after turning pro in 2018, showing impressive power with an eight-fight knockout streak. After coming up on the short end of a decision to Marcos Hernandez in September 2021, Reséndiz was dominant in stopping the former unified world champion Jarrett Hurd in the 10th-round of their March 2023 matchup. Reséndiz’s only other blemish came against top contender Elijah Garcia in September 2023, before bouncing back to earn a fifth-round TKO of Fernando Paliza in February 2025.

“I’m very happy to be stepping into the ring with a great fighter like Jaime Munguia, who’s been competing at this level for a long time,” said Reséndiz. “For me, this is a big challenge and a huge motivation. These are the kinds of fights I’ve always dreamed about – facing the best names in the sport and proving that I belong at this level.”

The 29-year-old Munguía (45-2, 35 KOs) first burst onto the scene in 2018, shocking Sadam Ali via a fourth-round TKO to claim a 154-pound world championship, which he would go on to defend successfully five times. A native of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, Munguía continued his dominance after moving up to 160-pounds, going 6-0 at the weight class from 2020 through 2022, including triumphs over D’Mitrius Ballard, Gabriel Rosado and Tureano Johnson, all while garnering a reputation as one of the most fan-friendly fighters in the sport. Munguia debuted at 168-pounds with a 2023 Fight of the Year triumph over Sergiy Derevyanchenko, eventually losing an undisputed 168-pound title challenge to Canelo Alvarez in 2024. Most recently, Munguia avenged a December 2024 loss to Bruno Sarace by winning a unanimous decision in the rematch last May.

“I’m very excited to be back, especially to fight for a world title against a fellow Mexican,” said Munguía. “I’m truly grateful to my team, and everyone who made this fight possible. We’re ready to come out victorious on this great night for Mexico!”

**OSCAR DUARTE VS. ANGEL FIERRO**

One of the top contenders at 140-pounds, Oscar Duarte was set to challenge IBF World Champion Richardson Hitchins in February before Hitchins pulled out due to illness on fight day, now he will look to return to action against the heavy-handed all-action brawler Angel Fierro in a 10-round super lightweight showdown.

Fighting out of Parral, Chihuahua, Mexico, Duarte (30-2-1, 23 KOs) rides a four-fight winning streak into May 2, including a decision triumph over fellow top contender Kenneth Sims Jr. last August. The 30-year-old’s current run also includes an April 2024 stoppage of former world champion Joseph Diaz Jr. and a unanimous decision triumph over bruising contender Batyr Akhmedov. Duarte ended 11 consecutive fights before the final bell between May 2019 and May 2023 to earn a shot at current WBC Welterweight World Champion Ryan Garcia, ultimately coming up on the short end of their December 2023 matchup.

“I’m very happy and motivated for this fight on May 2 in Las Vegas,” said Duarte. “This is a great event that falls on a very meaningful date for all Mexicans, which makes it even more special to me. I can’t wait to face another Mexican warrior who’s already proven his talent and courage in the ring. When two Mexicans step into the ring, people know it’s gonna be a great fight. We’re both going to give it everything we have and I’m sure it will be a war that fans will truly enjoy. I want to thank my whole team for including me on this great card on such an important date for all Mexicans.”

Originally from Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, Fierro (23-4-2, 18 KOs) now fights out of San Diego and has made a name for himself with his aggressive style and power punching prowess. The 27-year-old stamped his place amongst modern Mexican boxing warriors with an unforgettable slugfest against Mexican superstar Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz in February 2025, delivering one of the year’s best fights. Fierro has fought professionally since 2015 and was undefeated in his first 17 outings. He announced his presence as a world contender in 2021 with a career-best victory as he rose from the canvas to stop former world champion Alberto Machado in round six. Most recently Fierro was disqualified from an October 2025 bout against Abraham Cordero for fouling.

“I’m very grateful to my team for this great opportunity,” said Fierro. “We’re ready to return to Las Vegas and deliver a great fight and a surprise, just like we do every time we step into the ring. I want to make a statement that I’m still among the elite. I have a lot of respect for Oscar Duarte, we’ve trained in the same gym before, so I know this fight is going to be explosive.”

**ISAAC LUCERO VS. ALAN SANDOVAL**

Fresh off a pair of KO victories in 2025, undefeated rising contender Isaac “Puro México” will look to bring that momentum into 2026 as he steps in against fellow unbeaten Alan Sandoval, who makes his U.S. debut in this 10-round super welterweight showdown.

“Fighting on Cinco de Mayo weekend is every Mexican boxer’s dream, and I accept this challenge with the utmost professionalism, as I’ll be facing the most important challenge of my career against an undefeated opponent. This card will be ‘Puro México!’”

Representing his native Nochistlan, Zacatecas, Mexico, Sandoval (30-0-1, 19 KOs) will look to make a big splash in his first stateside bout after racking up four victories in 2025. The 30-year-old already began his 2026 campaign in February with a stoppage victory, his 13th victories inside of the distance in his last 14 outings. A pro since 2019, Sandoval began his pro career with four-straight unanimous decisions before finding his power surge in recent years.

“I’m highly motivated by this tremendous opportunity and I have no intention of letting it slip away,” said Sandoval. “I have more experience than Isaac and I’ve been having the best training camp of my career. Competing in an event Cinco de Mayo Weekend is a dream come true. I have no doubt that this will be a great fight. Neither of us wants to lose, but I am confident I will be the one walking away with my hand raised.”

The WBC Welcomed David Benavidez and Gilberto Ramirez to Mexico City Before their UPCOMING Clash During Cinco de Mayo Weekend

MEXICO CITY – March 10, 2026 –  The World Boxing Council witnessed a Martes de Café  (“Coffee Tuesday”) like no other so far in 2026, as it welcomed undefeated two-division WBC champion David Benavídez and Unified WBA and WBO World Champion Gilberto Ramírez to Mexico City to talk about their upcoming bout, which will take place during Cinco de Mayo weekend in Las Vegas, alongside their host WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán and other boxing luminaries in Mexico City.

Benavidez, the current WBC Light Heavyweight Champion, requested and was granted permission to challenge for the WBA and WBO Cruiserweight titles held by Zurdo Ramirez, so they will meet under the bright lights for the first time on May 2 after having been sparring partners for a long time.

To commemorate this fight that puts the spotlight on this Mexican card, the WBC has created a special commemorative belt for the winner to hoist: the Tollan Tlatequi Belt, inspired by the culture of Hidalgo in the heart of Mexico.

“I am very happy with everything that has happened in my life. Sometimes the hardest lessons I had to learn were the ones that made me stronger,” Benavídez reflected. “I am proud of my accomplishments, but I don’t like to live in the past or dwell on them; there is still so much more I can achieve. By the time I’m done with boxing, there will always be room for more. I am very grateful to all of Mexico for welcoming me in such a beautiful and warm way. I felt right at home and hope to return soon. Many thanks to the WBC for making this possible.

For his part, Ramírez commented: “The clash of styles will inevitably make this fight attractive. Benavidez is a pressure fighter who comes forward, so it will be a great battle. I respect him because I know him; we’ve shared a lot of time in the gym, and I know he is a very dedicated fighter—but I am going to win.”

“I’m grateful to be in Mexico for this press conference, and I appreciate the hospitality that always characterizes the WBC.”

Mauricio Sulaimán, President of the WBC, hosted the event and also presented WBC mini belts to Benavidez and Zurdo´s kids, stating that “this fight is one of unity. Zurdo’s world championships will be on the line, and Benavidez will enter the ring as the WBC Champion. This is a fight for the world and for Mexico, featuring two Mexican warriors who will leave their souls in the ring.”

“I’m really excited about Cinco de Mayo weekend this year,” said Oscar De La Hoya, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. “These guys have 55 knockouts between them. They’re not gonna bore the crowd. They’re gonna put on a show. They’re technicians, but they’re fighters. The pressure is on. Cinco de Mayo is a date where people expect fireworks and that’s exactly what we will get.”

“This is going to be a special Cinco de Mayo,” said Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing. “I’m thankful that we’ve come together to make a great show and many more in the future. This is going to be one of the best shows that money can buy. Benavidez is taking his own way to become the best of the best. He’s not going to wait around for any challenger or champion. I want to thank ‘Zurdo’ for stepping up, because this is the fight.”

**DAVID BENAVIDEZ VS. GILBERTO RAMIREZ**

Already the youngest 168-pound champion in boxing history and the current WBC and WBA Light Heavyweight Champion, David “El Monstro” Benavidez will seek a world title in a third division as he faces fellow two-division world champion and the reigning unified WBA and WBO Cruiserweight World Champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez in a 12-round matchup headlining one of boxing’s biggest nights.

One of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the sport, the 29-year-old Benavidez (31-0, 25 KOs) continued to dominate elite competition in a big 2025 campaign. He kicked the year off by defeating rival and then unbeaten David Morrell Jr. by unanimous decision to add the WBA belt to the WBC title he’d earned in 2024 against former champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk. Prior to that, Benavidez’s 2023 began with him besting longtime rival Caleb Plant via unanimous decision in a March slugfest before stopping the previously unbeaten two-division champion Demetrius Andrade in six rounds in November. A Phoenix-native who now trains in Miami, Benavidez became the youngest-ever 168-pound world champion at just 20-years-old when he defeated Ronald Gavril by split decision for the vacant WBC title in 2017. When he was 15 years old, Benavidez went from weighing 250 pounds to a boxing prodigy under the watchful eye of his father and trainer, Jose, Sr., and his brother and veteran contender Jose Jr., as he famously held his own in sparring against middleweight champions Gennady Golovkin and Peter Quillin as a teenager. Benavidez most recently demolished top contender Anthony Yarde in November, stopping him in round seven.

“This is something I’ve been working toward for a long time,” said Benavidez. “We’ve had so many great sparring sessions and I told Zurdo then, we’ll have to do this on pay-per-view one day. Now we’re going for two titles on May 2 and I’m very grateful…I’m gonna go in there and leave everything in the ring. I’m making sure I’m doing extra reps with anything and everything I do. That’s just the way I fight. I want to earn the fans respect and go in there and put on a great fight…I want to make my own lane and achieve greatness.”

“David Benavidez doesn’t just have to win, he has to show out to prove he can go after the Bivols and Beterbievs,” said Jose Benavidez Sr., David’s father and trainer. “This is gonna be an explosive fight. I want to thank all the Mexican people for all their love and support. David Benavidez is showing he truly is the Mexican Monster. Be there on May 2. A new era will begin. The era of the Mexican Monster.”

A native of Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico, Ramirez (48-1, 30 KOs) became Mexico’s first cruiserweight world champion in March 2024 as he earned a unanimous decision over Arsen Goulamirian to capture the WBA championship. The 34-year-old followed up that feat by adding the WBO belt in a November 2024 triumph over Chris Billiam-Smith via another unanimous decision. He continued to establish his place atop the 200-pound weight class in his most recent action last June, as he handled the hard-hitting former cruiserweight world champion Yuniel Dorticos. Ramirez broke into the upper echelon of the sport with a prolific run as the WBO Super Middleweight World Champion, beginning in April 2016 when he dethroned Arthur Abraham. He’d go on to make five successful title defenses, including two victories over the previously unbeaten Jesse Hart and triumphs over then-undefeated contenders Alexis Angulo and Habib Ahmed. The lone blemish on Ramirez’s resume came via decision in a 2022 challenge of light heavyweight star Dmitry Bivol.

“I’m so glad to be here to make a huge fight for May 2,” said Ramirez. “Don’t miss this fight. I know Team Benavidez, they actually helped me a lot for my first world title fight. We’re gonna make this an exciting fight. At the end of the day, the titles are staying with Zurdo…I just want to be the best. I want to fight the best and he’s one of the best. I just want to give the fans who love this sport the best fights.”

“I can’t say how much of an honor it is to be a part of Cinco de Mayo weekend,” said Julian Chua, Ramirez’s trainer. “The heritage of Mexican boxing built this sport…Neither team is too big into talking, and there won’t be a need for it. I’ve seen them sparring up close, and those rounds were all pay-per-view worthy. Now you layer on that it’s a real fight, the competitive nature that brought them both to where they are today, at its peak form, it will be there.”

Benavidez vs. Zurdo will deliver a first of its kind Mexico vs. Mexico showdown on one of boxing’s premier weekends featuring two fighters with a combined record of 79-1, with 55 KOs. During the press conference, the fighters and teams spoke of their intense past sparring sessions and promised that the action on May 2 would far surpass those gym wars.

Pre-sale tickets are available Tuesday, February 24 from 10 a.m. PT until 10 p.m. PT through AXS.com with the codes: PBC or GBP

Public on-sale begins Wednesday, February 25 at 10 a.m. PT through AXS.com.

The event is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and Sampson Boxing, in association with TGB Promotions.

Here is what the press conference participants had to say Saturday from Park MGM in Las Vegas:

DAVID BENAVIDEZ

“This is something I’ve been working toward for a long time. We’ve had so many great sparring sessions and I told Zurdo then, we’ll have to do this on pay-per-view one day. Now we’re going for two titles on May 2 and I’m very grateful.

“I feel like I’m on the cusp of being the face of boxing. And if Zurdo wins, his stock goes up. There’s greatness on the other side of that tunnel for both of us. So we’re gonna come extremely prepared.

“For the whole history of Cinco de Mayo fights, it’s been tremendous fighters like Oscar and Chavez. Not just great fights, but wars. Because they never took easy fights. That’s what we’re doing. We’re two Mexican warriors going for the title.

“Zurdo is a top fighter. He’s a great fighter. I was helping him get ready for Arthur Abraham and we had some great sessions. I knew he was gonna be one of those guys who would be around for a long time. Eventually we were gonna do this.

“I’m gonna go in there and leave everything in the ring. I’m making sure I’m doing extra reps with anything and everything I do. That’s just the way I fight. I want to earn the fans respect and go in there and put on a great fight.

“I want to make my own lane and achieve greatness.”

GILBERTO “ZURDO” RAMIREZ

“I’m so glad to be here to make a huge fight for May 2. Don’t miss this fight. I know Team Benavidez, they actually helped me a lot for my first world title fight. We’re gonna make this an exciting fight. At the end of the day, the titles are staying with Zurdo.

“I knew this would happen eventually. This is a dream come true. Right now is the right moment at 200 pounds. We’re going to feel comfortable and be at our best.

“He’s the monster. He’s different. He used to beat up a lot of sparring partners. Now we’re here, we’re two warriors and we’re making history.

“I just want to be the best. I want to fight the best and he’s one of the best. I just want to give the fans who love this sport the best fights.”

JOSE BENAVIDEZ SR. David’s Father & Trainer

“David Benavidez doesn’t just have to win. He has to show out to prove he can go after the Bivols and Beterbievs.

“This is gonna be an explosive fight. I also want to thank all the Mexican people for all their love and support. David Benavidez is showing he truly is the Mexican Monster.

“Be there on May 2. A new era will begin. The era of the Mexican Monster.”

JULIAN CHUA, Ramirez’s Trainer

“I can’t say how much of an honor it is to be a part of Cinco de Mayo weekend. The heritage of Mexican boxing built this sport.

“Neither team is too big into talking, and there won’t be a need for it. I’ve seen them sparring up close, and those rounds were all pay-per-view worthy. Now you layer on that it’s a real fight, the competitive nature that brought them both to where they are today, at its peak form, it will be there.

“This is gonna be a shootout and a great war. I don’t feel any pressure, because the way these guys are, it’s gonna be a great fight.”

OSCAR DE LA HOYA, Chairman & CEO of Golden Boy Promotions

“I’m really excited about Cinco de Mayo weekend this year. Traditionally you’ve had great fighters like Julio Cesar Chavez, myself, Canelo Alvarez, fighting on this big weekend. But the fact that two Mexicans are fighting in the main event for the belts, it’s gonna be extra special.

“We have the first Mexican super middleweight and cruiserweight world champion on Cinco de Mayo in one corner in Zurdo Ramirez. And we know that Benavidez brings everything to the table, from round one to round twelve. I expect this to be a classic Mexican war. That’s what fight fans want to see. They want to be part of a historic event. That’s exactly what this fight brings to the table.

“These guys have 55 knockouts between them. They’re not gonna bore the crowd. They’re gonna put on a show. They’re technicians, but they’re fighters. The pressure is on. Cinco de Mayo is a date where people expect fireworks and that’s exactly what we will get.”

SAMPSON LEWKOWICZ, Sampson Boxing

“This is going to be a special Cinco de Mayo. I’m thankful that we’ve come together to make a great show and many more in the future. This is going to be one of the best shows that money can buy.

“Benavidez is taking his own way to become the best of the best. He’s not going to wait around for any challenger or champion. I want to thank ‘Zurdo’ for stepping up, because this is the fight.”

“Corpus Christi is a true fight town, and I hope to continue building this venture here for a long time,” Ramirez added. “I’m excited to showcase rising talent like hometown favorite Julian Delgado, along with the return of the ‘Corpus Christi Kid,’ Jerry Belmontes.”

Former WBA Intercontinental Light Heavyweight Champion Kareem “Supreme” Hackett (12-1, 6 KOs), of Toronto, will make his cruiserweight debut, while undefeated Mongolian featherweight prospect Enkhamadakh Kharkhuu (7-0, 3 KOs) fights for the first time in Texas.

WBC Light Heavyweight Champion David ‘The Mexican Monster’ Benavidez Excited About History-Making Cinco De Mayo Showdown with Gilberto Ramirez, Looking for Bivol/Beterbiev Winner Next

(December 1, 2025) – WBC Light Heavyweight Champion David “The Mexican Monster” Benavidez says he’s excited about taking over next Cinco de Mayo weekend to face WBA and WBO Cruiserweight Champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez, not only because he’ll be vying for world championships in a third division, but also for the history-making aspect of two proud Mexican warriors competing for the cruiserweight world championship for the first time in history.

Fresh off his seventh-round TKO victory over Anthony Yarde in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Benavidez (31-0, 25 KOs) is next scheduled to meet Ramirez (48-1, 30 KOs) on May 2, 2026, at T Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

With some fans wanting Benavidez to unify the titles against IBF, WBA and WBO World Light Heavyweight Champion Dmitrii Bivol or face former IBF Champ Artur Beterbiev next, rather than Ramirez, Benavidez’s longtime promoter, Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing wishes to remind fans of some facts concerning the choice to face Zurdo instead.

“After waiting so long for Canelo Alvarez, only to have him avoid us at all costs, David will wait for no one ever again,” said Lewkowicz. “We offered Bivol $8 million to face David last year, and he chose to vacate the WBC title a day before a scheduled purse bid rather than face him. Beterbiev is coming off a loss, so other than money, he brings nothing to table. Besides, David wanted the winner of rematch, not the loser. David would stop Beterbiev. No doubt in my mind and has already dropped Bivol with headgear and big gloves. David is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, but he won’t talk about it. He will show it, fight after fight.”

Lewkowicz also wants fans to know their wish will be granted in the near future.

“The WBA has guaranteed us that David is the mandatory for the Bivol/Beterbiev winner,” he added. “Bivol will have to act like a ‘Russian Canelo’ and vacate another title to avoid facing David. He doesn’t want to fight because he knows when they sparred, David put a beating on him and dropped him. He has zero chance of beating David. That I promise you. He has no power to keep David off him, and he will take a brutal beating!”

Benavidez has already held world championships in two weight classes, the WBA Light Heavyweight Title since February 2025 and the WBC Light Heavyweight Title since April 2025. Previously, he held the WBC Super Middleweight Title twice between 2017 and 2020. And, by claiming his first world title at 20 years, and eight months old, Benavidez holds the record as the youngest super middleweight world champion in history.

WBA/WBO Cruiserweight Champion Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez Confirms World Title Fight with David Benavidez on Cinco de Mayo in Las Vegas

LOS ANGELES (November 25, 2025) – Unified world cruiserweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (48-1, 30 KOs) has confirmed the first All-Mexican showdown in the cruiserweight division against undefeated, two-division world champion David “The Mexican Monster” Benavidez (31-0, 25 KOs) on Cinco de Mayo weekend, Saturday night, May 2, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Last month, Ramirez resumed training at Brickhouse Boxing Club in North Hollywood, California, following right shoulder surgery this past July. Before the native of Mazatlán, Mexico takes on Benavidez, “Zurdo” will defend his World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Cruiserweight World and World Boxing Organization (WBO) Junior Heavyweight World championship titles against fight Robin Sirwan Safar (19-0, 13 KOs) on January 16 in Palm Desert, California.

The 32-year-old Safar, a native of Sweden now living in Las Vegas, won his most recent fight on Nov. 8, when he decisioned previously undefeated Derick Miller Jr. (18-0) in Fort Worth, Texas. Safar upset five-time world champion Sergey Kovalev in 2024 by way of a 10-round unanimous decision to get into the world title hunt. This will mark Ramirez’ 50th pro fight during his illustrious career.

Ramirez, 34, last fought on June 28 in which he won a 12-round unanimous decision victory over Yuniel Dorticos (27-2, 25 KOs) to position himself for a possible 2026 unification fight with Jai Opetaia (29-0, 32 KOs), the International Boxing Federation and Ring Magazine world champion, or wait to unify versus the winner of the December 3rd match between WBC title holder Badou Jack (29-3-3, 18 KOs) and former WBC Cruiserweight World Champion Noel Mikaelian (27-3, 12 KOs).

Instead, Ramirez chose to fight Benavidez, the reigning WBA Light Heavyweight World Champion who will be moving up in weight to challenge Ramirez in what could very well be an instant classic.

“I’m excited about this fight, and this is something I’ve targeted for years. It will be your classic Mexican versus Mexican/American (Benavidez) war,” Ramirez said, emphasizing the long-standing buildup behind the matchup. “I’m familiar with David and his team and have shared the gym and ring with them in the past. They’re great people, but business is business, and come May, I will have my arm raised.”

When asked about Opetaia and his recent outburst, Ramirez didn’t hold back, countered with: “I’m after the biggest fights possible and I want to make sure I’m fighting the best. To be honest, I didn’t even know who Opetaia was until recently. Someone told me some things he said, and I think he might have rocks for brains. This guy hasn’t impressed me at all; he’s fought a bunch of cannon fodders to get to where he is. All these outbursts and spreading lies – saying he called my phone – reminds me of all my ex-girlfriends.”

Benavidez, 28, was born in Phoenix but his father is from Mexico and David holds dual citizenships. He stopped Anthony Yarde (27-3) this past Saturday in the seventh round. He has defeated former world champions Demetrious AndradeAnthony DirrellDavid LemieuxCaleb Plant and Oleksandr Gvozdyk.

Ramirez vs. Benavidez has the potential to be the leading match-up of Mexican descent fighters since 2010, when Erik Morales fought Marco Antonio Barrera.

GOLDEN BOY STATEMENT ON GILBERTO “ZURDO” RAMIREZ SHOULDER SURGERY

LOS ANGELES (July 20, 2025) — Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez underwent shoulder surgery on Saturday, July 19, to treat an injury he sustained during his June 28 bout against Yuniel Dorticos. The procedure was successful, and Ramirez is now recovering under the supervision of his medical team.

“After getting three medical opinions and a lot of thinking, I’ve decided to undergo my shoulder surgery. I’ve been dealing with this injury since my last fight, and pushing through it just isn’t the smart move — for my health or my career,” said Zurdo Ramirez. “Surgery isn’t something any fighter wants to hear, but this is the right call to make sure I heal properly and come back at 100%. I’ll be out of the ring healing until I’m cleared by my medical team, but I’m already locked in on therapy and the road back. Thank you to everyone who’s been checking in and showing love — it means more than you know. I’ll be back stronger, sharper, and hungrier than ever!”

“We wish Zurdo Ramirez the very best in his recovery and are pleased to hear that his shoulder surgery was successful,” said Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya. “At Golden Boy, the health and safety of our fighters is our top priority. We look forward to Zurdo returning at 100 percent, fully recovered and ready to take on the biggest challenges that await him once he’s cleared and ready to step back into the ring.”

Jake Paul Decisions Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Jake Paul had to work hard in the final rounds, but he won a 10-round unanimous decision over former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in a cruiserweight fight at The Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

The fight was fought at a slow place early as Paul was taking what Chavez was giving him, and Chavez was doing absolutely nothing as he landed zero punches in round one. Paul was landing some body punches and some left hook. Paul continued to ack up rounds and took a commanding lead.

Paul landed 140 of 482 punches. Chavez was 61 of 154.

Chavez made brief stands in rounds nine and 10. Paul was never in any serious trouble and won by scores of 99-91, 98-92 and 97-93.

Paul, 199.4 lbs of Dorado, PR is now 12-1. Chavez, 198.4 lbs of Sinaloa, MEX is 54-7-1.

Jake Paul Quotes

On the future of his boxing career

“I’m used to these guys not being good promoters. At the end of the day, I’m going to fight all of these guys. I feel like tonight was just the first day of my boxing career, and I just got warmed up, and this is just chapter two moving forward.”

On how much different a fighter he is now compared to when he fought Tommy Fury

“I don’t even think I was a fighter then. That was like two and a half years into the sport, and I didn’t know what I was doing. I didn’t have the proper team around me. I didn’t have conditioning. My lifestyle outside of the ring was still that of a YouTuber, celebrity, actor, whatever I was at that point in time. So I wasn’t fully focused on boxing. Like I said, chapter one is done tonight, and now we’re moving into chapter two. I’m just getting warmed up in the sport. People hold the Tommy Fury thing against me, but what now? I just beat a former world champion, and I’m coming to avenge that loss as well with Tommy.”

On moving up to heavyweight for a potential fight against Anthony Joshua

“I’m definitely not a heavyweight, but I’m still going to take the challenge. You look at Deontay Wilder, he was beating these guys weighing 215 lbs. Granted, he’s 6’6 or something, but anything is possible. I like the challenge. That’s the criticism, people will say, ‘Fight someone in their prime who’s a beast’.” I think people just really want to see me lose. That’s really what the message is behind it all. Anthony Joshua is an insane fight, but I want that challenge. We’ve been DM’ing back and forth. He wants to make it happen. He called me up and it’s looking very likely for next year.”

On what it was like going toe-to-toe with Chavez over the final round

“It was great. I love that he brought a good fight in the end. I think the fans got a good fight to see him come out and throw some punches on me, and it makes me better. It brings the best out of me. I started catching his shots, shooting back, and I had to elevate tonight and rise to a different level. I’m glad that the fans got to see me get punched in the face a little bit but at the end of the day, it’s good. I love a good fight.”

On if Canelo Alvarez is out of the picture for his future plans

“No, he’s not out of the picture. I think once I get the belts, I’m going to want to fight for the cruiserweight championship and add that belt to my resume. I think he would become a four or five-weight champion. I think that would be what interests him, and that’s the plan.”

Gilberto Ramirez Decisions Dorticos To Retain Cruiserweight Titles

Gilberto Ramirez defended the WBA/WBO Cruiserweight title with a 12-round unanimous decision over Yuniel Dortocs

In round 10, Dorticos was docked a point for low blows.

Ramirez landed 224 of 620 punches. Dorticos was 290 of 616.

Ramirez, 199.8 lbs of Sinaloa, MEX won by scores of 117-110 and 115-112 twice and is now 48-1.

Zurdo Ramirez Quotes

On Jake Paul’s performance vs. Chavez Jr.

“Yeah, I give the credit to what he did in the fight. Chavez Jr. was a world-class world champion. He did great.”

On if Jake’s performance legitimized his status at cruiserweight.

“Yeah, I give a lot of credit to Jake Paul on this win.”

On whether a fight with Jai Opetaia is next for him.

“I’m ready, I’m the champion. I [want to become] undisputed.”

Raul Curiel Stops Victor Rodriguez in 4

Raul Curiel remained undefeated with a fourth round stoppage over Victor Rodriguez in a 10-round welterweight bout.

In round four, Curiel landed an a hard uppercut that was followed by a right to the body that sent Rodriguez down. The nose of Rodriguez was bleeding badly. Rodriguez was hurt and Curiel jumped on him with a flurry of punches on the ropes and the fight was stopped at 2:09.

Curiel, 146.4 lbs of Guadalajara, MEX is 16-0-1 with 14 knockouts. Rodriguez, 145.2 lbs of Maldonado, URU is 16-1-1.

Raul Curiel Quotes

On his performance and what’s next

“All due respect for my opponent. It was hard-hitting. He comes to fight and win the fight. I tried to put all my experience on the line and everything, thank God, went well. I’m very happy for my performance. I think I do it well, and I’m ready for everything. I’m ready for every champ, whoever is available. Now I won the title eliminator, so I’m here to fight anyone in the division.”

On what the exchanges felt like and how he was able to stop Rodriguez

“Like I said, he was hard-hitting, a hard puncher. He came to win, and it was a brawl. I always try to make it a war for people. For the fans, I know that’s why they paid for the tickets. I knew it was going to be a war because I studied before the fight, and I knew he was strong. I made a good fight plan for this one, and I felt stronger, and every fight I’m doing better and better.”

Julian Rodriguez Stops Avious Griffin in 10th and Final Round

Julian Rodriguez scored the biggest win of his career by stopping previously undefeated AVious Griffin in the 10th and final round of their welterweight bout.

Over the first half of the fight, Rodriguez got out to a lead by landing some nice counter shots.

In round eight, Griffin dropped Rodriguez with a chopping right hand. Rodriguez came back in round nine by landing a right hand that buckled Griffin. In round 10, Rodriguez ducked under and landed a left hook that hurt and dropped Griffin. Griffin rolled around and with a bloody nose could not beat the count at 2:55.

Rodriguezz, 146.6 lbs of Hoboken, NJ is 24-1 with 15 knockouts. Griffin, 146.8 lbs of Chattanooga, TN is 17-1.

Schofield Takes Out Farmer in 1st Round

Floyd Schofield scored the most significant win of his career as he took out Tevin Farmer in the opening round of their 10-round lightweight bout.

Schofield dropped Farmer in the opening minute with a one-two combination. Schofield then landed a flurry of punches tat was punctuated by a left hook. With Farmer hurt, Schofield landed a hard flurry and the bout was stopped at 1:18.

Schofield, 134.8 lbs of Austin, TX is 19-0 with 13 knockouts. Farmer, 135 lbs of Philadelphia is 33-9-1.

Floyd Schofield Quotes

On if he was surprised at how quickly the fight ended

“Yes and no. So much was going on. I was just thinking a mile a minute, so when the fight was over it didn’t register that the fight was over. I was so hype! I told my dad I just wanted to run out of the ring and celebrate.”

On his message to naysayers

“If you are a hater, continue to hate. If you’re a supporter, I appreciate you, love you. We’re just going to keep doing great things, keep getting bigger. Me and Shakur [Stevenson] have unfinished business at the end of the day. That’s going to eventually happen, and I’ll be able to prove what I was going to do in February.”

Holly Holm returned to boxing after a successful championship run in the UFC and won a 10-round unanimous decision over Yolanda Vega in a super lightweight fight.

Holm, 136.6 lbs of ALbiquerque, NM won by scores of 100-90 on all cards and is now 33-2-3. Vega, 136 lbs of Sonora, MEX is 10-1.

Holly Holm Quotes

On how much she was motivated by Yolanda Vega’s trash talk this week

“I use anything as motivation. They could be being too friendly, and I’d be like, ‘I’m not your friend.’ They could be talking a bunch of trash, and I’d be like “don’t talk like that.” Leading up to a fight, you’ll use anything as motivation, but really my motivation is in me. I fight for myself and the support that I have from my team and my family. When it comes down to it, they should want to win. I don’t want to fight somebody who’s not there to win. I don’t want to fight somebody who’s not at their best. I want to beat them when they’re at their best. I wanted [Yolanda Vega] to come with everything she had, because that makes it more of a sweet victory.”

On the secret to her longevity

“When people tell me that I’m old, I don’t feel it. I do think that it’s [due to] activity, that it’s a mindset, basic health. I think there are a lot of things to it but I think the number one thing is that as long as [boxing is] your passion. I have trainers that I really trust, and if they felt like I couldn’t do it anymore, they would tell me. So I keep those people close to me, and I listen to them. I know I can still do it, they believe in me too, and that’s all it takes. It’s still my passion. I’m not going to do it forever, obviously the years [ahead] are getting less, but I know that I’m still healthy and still ready to go.”

On what we will see next from her

“Better. I had fun tonight, but I definitely want more from myself.”

Joel Iriarte won eight-round unanimous decision over Kevin Johnson in a welterweight bout.

Iriarte, 146.8 lbs of Bakersfield, CA won by scores of 80-72, 79-74 and 78-74 and is now 8-0. Johnson, 146.4 lbs of Las Vegas is 12-7.

Edwards, 226 lbs of Houston is 3-0 with three knockouts. Hardy, 251.4 lbs of Chicago is 6-4.

Mexican boxing icon Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez Respects Cuban fighters & rivalry

LOS ANGELES (June 25, 2025) –- Unified World Cruiserweight Champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (47-1, 30 KOs) has expressed his highest respect for the Mexican vs. Cuban boxing rivalry that continues this Saturday night (June 28) when he defends his World Boxing Organization (WBO) and World Boxing Association (WBA) titles against the WBA’s No. 1, mandatory challenger Yuniel “The KO Doctor” Dorticos (27-2, 25 KOs).

Ramirez vs. Dorticos is the 12-round co-feature on the stacked DAZN Pay-Per-View event, presented by MVP Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions, featuring internet sensation Jake “The Problem Child” Paul (11-1, 7 KOs) versus Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. (54-6-1, 34 KOs), the son of 6-time, 3-division world champion, Hall of Famer Julio Ceasar Chavez (107-6-2, 85 KOs), in the 10-round main event at Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

Legendary Mexican vs. Cuban fights include Gaspar Ortega vs. Kid Gavilan 1 & 2, Jose Luis Castillo vs. Joel Casmayor, Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Casamayor, and Armando Muniz vs. Jose Napoles, 1 & 2.

Mexican fighters are generally aggressive and pressuring, while Cuban fighters are known for their technique, footwork, and defense. However, in the June 28th matchup, “Zurdo” combines excellent technique and footwork, and Dorticos, nicknamed “The KO Doctor,” embodies his knockout style.

“Zurdo” is 2-0 as a pro against Cuban fighters. In 2021, Ramirez defeated Yuniesky “The Monster” Gonzalez (21-3, 17 KOs) by way of a 12-th round knockout and he stopped Sullivan Barrera (22-3, 14 KOs) in round four, flooring his opponent three times with body shots. In his last fight more than a year ago, Dorticos fought his first Mexican opponent in the pro ranks, Alan Campa (19-9, 13 KOs), who was stopped in the opening round.

“I have a lot of respect for Cuban fighters,” Ramirez said. “They always possess a lot of skills and are difficult fighters to deal with. Dorticos is a power puncher with good footwork, and I know he can be dangerous at any point of the fight. I’ve trained like I would for any fight, and I’ve never taken an opportunity for granted. I know this fight can change his life and I expect him to bring his best on fight night.”

Ramírez vs. Dorticos: Clash of Titans in Anaheim

This Saturday, June 28, the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, will host a battle that could reshape the cruiserweight landscape. Mexico’s Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramírez (47-1, 30 KOs), the reigning WBA Super World Champion at 200 pounds, puts his crown on the line against Cuban knockout artist Yuniel “Dr. KO” Dorticos (27-2, 25 KOs).

For the 33-year-old Ramírez, this is a chance to solidify his hold on the division. Since moving up to cruiserweight, the southpaw has showcased his signature volume punching, methodical pressure, and ring IQ—all proving just as effective against bigger men. His most recent victory over Chris Billam-Smith was a statement win, unifying titles and making him the first Mexican to claim two belts at cruiserweight. But there’s one thing missing: a knockout in the new weight class. And against a puncher like Dorticos, Ramírez knows that making a statement may matter just as much as getting the win.

His team, led by trainer Julian Chua, isn’t shying away from that expectation. “We want the knockout,” Chua told reporters. “We’re not just here to win on points—we want to leave a mark. Dorticos has power, but he’s got defensive gaps. We’re going to press him, test his gas tank, and push the pace.”

Across the ring stands Dorticos, the 39-year-old former world champion known for his explosive power. With 25 of his 27 wins coming by knockout, the Cuban banger may have been inactive for over a year, but he enters camp-driven and dangerous, knowing this could be his final shot at glory. He captured the WBA title back in 2017 by flattening Dmitry Kudryashov, and later went to war with Murat Gassiev in a memorable slugfest. Now, he’s aiming to spoil the Zurdo party in Southern California.

The fight promises to be a stylistic chess match wrapped in a powder keg: the measured pressure and southpaw rhythm of Ramírez against the raw power and relentless aggression of Dorticos. It’s method vs. mayhem. Patience vs. urgency.

Tactically, Ramírez may look to wear the Cuban down with body work and control the center of the ring. Dorticos, on the other hand, has no time to waste. The longer the bout stretches, the more it tilts in Zurdo’s favor. That makes the opening rounds critical—Dorticos will need to set the tempo early, and perhaps gamble big to cash in.

The atmosphere at the Honda Center will be electric. Thousands of Mexican fans are expected to rally behind Ramírez, who’s become a staple on the West Coast fight scene. But make no mistake—Dorticos didn’t travel to compete. He came to knock someone out.

Saturday’s title defense vs. Yuniel Dorticos could be prelude to mega-fight for Gilberto Ramirez against Jake Paul or Unification showdown with Jay Opetaia or Badou Jack

LOS ANGELES (June 24, 2025) –- Mexican cruiserweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (47-1, 30 KOs) must take care of business this Saturday night in his World Boxing Organization (WBO) and World Boxing Association (WBA) title defenses versus the WBA’s No. 1, mandatory challenger Yuniel “The KO Doctor” Dorticos (27-2, 25 KOs). At stake is a possible mega fight against internet sensation Jake “The Problem Child” Paul (11-1, 7 KOs), who headlines a loaded DAZN Pay-Per-View event, presented by MVP Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions.

Ramirez vs. Dorticos is a 12-round co-featured event. Paul faces Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. (54-6-1, 34 KOs), the son of 6-time, 3-division world champion, Hall of Famer Julio Ceasar Chavez (107-6-2, 85 KOs), in the 10-round main event at Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

“This is a great opportunity, and I look forward to putting on a great performance for my fans,” Ramirez said. “I think there is a chance of a possible world title fight in the future against Paul. He mentioned that he was ‘ready’ to challenge me during a recent press conference. I do believe he’s a man of his words and that he meant it.”

Fighting on the same card as Chavez, Jr., of course, is special for “Zurdo” for several reasons.

“His father is one of my favorite fighters of all-time and he did inspire me as a youth to pursue boxing,” Ramirez explained. “I think my fans and Chavez’ will support both of us. We are both from Sinaloa, Mexico, and have a lot of pride in our culture and country.”

Dorticos is certainly dangerous, evident by his 93% KO percentage, 25 of his 27 victories ending before the distance. But with a victory and no injuries, “Zurdo” stands to have two potential options if a match against Paul isn’t next. Next, he could add another world cruiserweight title to his already overloaded display case against reigning champions (IBF) Jay Opetaia (28-0, 22 KOs) or (WBC) Badou Jack (29-3-3, 18 KOs). And Ramirez is also closing in on the mercurial 50 career wins list.

“The goal is still the same,” Ramirez insisted, “becoming undisputed Cruiserweight Champion of the world. But we can still make the Paul fight next. We’ll see if he’s about the action or if it was just talk. I’m getting close to 50 wins, but my focus has always been on becoming a legend in the sport and collecting belts.”

Co-founder Nakisa Bidarian was an executive producer of Paul vs. Tyson and the historic Triller Presents Mike Tyson v. Roy Jones Jr., the 8th most-bought pay-per-view event in history.

INTERNATIONAL SUPERSTAR JAKE PAUL TO FACE MEXICO’S FORMER WORLD CHAMPION JULIO CÉSAR CHÁVEZ JR. IN MOST VALUABLE PROMOTIONS GLOBAL EVENT ON SATURDAY, JUNE 28 AT HONDA CENTER IN ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA, LIVE ON DAZN PPV

ATLANTA, GA – April 18, 2025 – Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) today announced that boxing’s biggest disruptor, international superstar Jake “El Gallo” Paul (11-1, 7 KOs) takes his next step towards world champion against Mexico’s former champion Julio César Chávez Jr. (54-6-1, 34 KOs) on Saturday, June 28 at Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Paul vs. Chávez Jr. will be a standard 10-round men’s professional bout with three minute rounds and 10oz gloves, contested at 200lbs. The historic fight, an MVP Event, will air live globally on DAZN pay-per-view and is presented by CELSIUS Live Fit Essential Energy. Golden Boy Promotions will serve as the official licensed promoter. The event will also feature an array of high-end VIP packages including the return of the one-of-a-kind MVP Owner’s Experience.

In the co-main event, Golden Boy’s 33-year-old WBO cruiserweight world champion and WBA cruiserweight super champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (47-1, 30 KOs)—ESPN’s #2 cruiserweight in the world—will make a title defense against Cuba’s former WBA and IBF cruiserweight world champion, one of the best punchers in boxing and current WBA mandatory challenger Yuniel Dorticós (27-2, 25 KOs) in a men’s world championship bout contested at 200lbs with twelve, three-minute rounds.

The American pride of Puerto Rico, Jake “El Gallo de Dorado” Paul (11-1, 7 KOs), has shown tremendous growth as a boxer on his path to becoming a world champion, and now will look to prove he has what it takes against a former world champion in Julio César Chávez Jr. In just five years since turning pro, Paul has made his impact in the ring, earning high-profile victories over names like Tyron Woodley, Anderson Silva, and Nate Diaz. His viral knockouts and headline-grabbing performances have breathed new life into boxing, drawing millions of fans and setting records. In his latest blockbuster fight in November 2024, Jake Paul defeated the Baddest Man on the Planet, Mike Tyson in a heavyweight bout in the first-ever live professional sporting event on Netflix. MVP’s Paul vs. Tyson shattered records, becoming the most-streamed sporting event ever with 108 million live viewers globally. Paul has collected multiple accolades for his commitment to the sport of boxing, including ESPNRingside’s 2021 Knockout of the Year, Sports Illustrated’s 2021 Breakout Boxer of the Year, ESPNRingside’s 2022 Viral Moment of the Year, and was the cover of Sports Illustrated’s “The 50 Most Influential Figures in Sports” issue, awarded specifically for his groundbreaking work to revolutionize the sport through equitable pay, providing a platform for young fighters, and his support of female boxers. Paul also partnered with USA Boxing ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics, continuing his mission to elevate the sport and its future champions. Paul and MVP are now promoting the biggest all-women’s card in boxing history, Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano 3 on Friday, July 11 at Madison Square Garden, live globally on Netflix, which will feature women’s undisputed and unified championship bouts across its entire main card and six of the top 15–and four of the top 10–women’s pound-for-pound fighters on Boxrec.

“Five years ago, I stepped into the ring for my pro debut after a single amateur fight, and every fight since has been a step towards becoming world champion. I just defeated the baddest man on the planet, and now I’m going against a former champion who conman Canelo couldn’t finish,” said Jake Paul. “Chávez Jr. is Mexican, but I, El Gallo De Dorado, have the will and heart of the great Mexican fighters. On Saturday, June 28, live on DAZN pay-per-view, I will knock out Julio and make Chávez Sr. proud in ways Jr. never has. Another massive event from Most Valuable Promotions, with some Oscar De La Hoya seasoning added to the show. Viva La Puerto Rico.”

Julio César Chávez Jr. (54-6-1, 34 KOs) is a Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico native and son of former three-division world boxing champion Julio César Chávez, “El Gran Campeón Mexicano,” the greatest Mexican fighter of all time. Chávez Jr. began his professional career with an impressive undefeated streak across his first 47 fights. Chávez Jr. climbed the rankings and became the WBC middleweight world champion in 2011, before being defeated by Sergio Martinez in Chávez’s fourth title defense in 2012. Chávez Jr. went on to reclaim regional titles and later won the WBC Continental Americas Super Middleweight title, recently fighting in his hometown of Culiacan to a UD win over David Zegarra. In June 2021, Chávez squared off with MMA star Anderson Silva, suffering a narrow split decision defeat. He most recently returned to the ring to defeat MMA icon Uriah Hall by unanimous decision on the undercard of Jake Paul vs. Mike Perry in July 2024. Now, Chávez Jr. will have the opportunity to grow his legacy further within the cruiserweight division as he faces Jake Paul on Saturday, June 28.

“First of all, I will show what I can do now that everything is in the right place in my life—mentally and physically,” said Julio César Chávez Jr. “I feel rejuvenated and 10 years younger. Second, I want to thank MVP for taking the risk of fighting me. Unfortunately for their Problem Child, they’re going to have a big problem this June—one they won’t know how to resolve. Hopefully when I beat him, people won’t underestimate this win.”

“Saturday, June 28 marks a defining moment in Jake Paul’s ascent to the top of the boxing world as he aims to show the 125 million people that watched him fight Mike Tyson that he is a real contender in the sport,” said Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions. “Julio César Chávez Jr., a former world champion and the heir to Mexico’s most iconic boxing legacy will be looking to cement his legacy by definitively defeating Jake, something no opponent has been able to do. Add to that the co-main event, which has the return of Mexican Zurdo Ramirez, the WBA and WBO champion, defending his titles against the dangerous Cuban Yuniel Dorticós and you have the ingredients for a night full of fireworks. Most Valuable Promotions is honored to present this momentous card in partnership with Golden Boy Promotions, live from Honda Center in Anaheim and we are proud to continue delivering groundbreaking moments for the sport on DAZN pay-per-view.”

Golden Boy’s Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (47-1, 30 KOs) has over a decade of experience under his belt, debuting as a professional in 2009 and embarking on a career that would see him make boxing history multiple times. In 2016, Ramirez won the WBO Super Middleweight title, defeating “King” Arthur Abraham by unanimous decision in a dominant performance. This victory cemented his status as one of the top fighters, and he became the first Mexican-born fighter to win a world title in the division. Ramirez successfully defended his belt multiple times, defeating tough opponents such as Jesse “Hard Work” Hart and Roamer Alexis Angulo. After five defenses of his title, Ramirez moved up to light heavyweight, where he went on a five-fight winning streak before facing Dmitry Bivol in a unification bout in November 2022. Although Ramirez’ undefeated streak ended in this contest, the fight showcased his resilience, heart, and determination to the sport. Turning that loss into a lesson, Ramirez returned to the ring 11 months later as a cruiserweight this time around. In November 2024, Ramirez made boxing history once again, becoming the first Mexican-born unified cruiserweight champion in an all-action packed war against Chris Billam-Smith in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Ramirez’s legacy as one of the most skilled and dangerous fighters of his era continues to grow, and he is widely regarded as one of Mexico’s best current champions.

“I’m excited to step back into the ring this June to defend my WBA and WBO titles. This fight marks my WBA mandatory, and I know I need to get past this opponent to stay on track in my journey toward greatness—and ultimately, to become the undisputed champion,” said Zurdo Ramirez. “I’ve been training non-stop and feel sharper than ever as I continue to grow and mature in the sport. The goal hasn’t changed. I’m locked in, and I’m proud to be featured on this card alongside Jake Paul and my good friend Julio César Chávez Jr. A big thank you to my team, Golden Boy Promotions, MVP, the WBA, the WBO, and all my fans. I can’t wait to put on a show you won’t forget.”

WBA mandatory challenger Yuniel Dorticós (27-2, 25 KOs), known as “The KO Doctor,” is a Cuban professional boxer renowned for his explosive punching power and success in the cruiserweight division. Born on March 11, 1986, in Cienfuegos, Cuba, he enjoyed a strong amateur career, finishing as a national runner-up multiple times and competing in the Boxing World Cup before defecting to the United States in 2009. Turning professional the same year, Dorticós quickly gained attention by winning his first 17 fights by knockout. He captured the WBA interim cruiserweight title in 2016 and went on to become the WBA (Regular) champion in 2017, defending the title until a loss to Murat Gassiev in 2018. In 2019, he claimed the vacant IBF cruiserweight title with a knockout victory over Andrew Tabiti during the World Boxing Super Series (WBSS), ultimately reaching the WBSS final, where he lost a close decision to Mairis Briedis. Known for his aggressive style and knockout power—evidenced by a record of 27 wins (25 by KO) and just 2 losses—Dorticós remains a respected force in the ring. He resides in Miami, Florida, where he continues to train and represent the proud tradition of Cuban boxing.

“I want to thank MVP, my promoters and Golden Boy for this opportunity,” said Yuniel Dorticós. “My goal is to become a three-time world champion, and now by fighting Zurdo Ramirez I have been granted the chance to accomplish my goals on Saturday, June 28.”

“Once again, Golden Boy is proving that we’re willing to work with anyone to deliver the biggest and most exciting events in boxing. We’re thrilled to partner with Jake Paul, Nakisa Bidarian, Most Valuable Promotions, and DAZN to bring this blockbuster night to fans around the world,” said Oscar De La Hoya, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy. “Now the WBA and WBO Unified Cruiserweight Champion, Zurdo has made history not once, but twice—first as the first Mexican-born fighter to become a super middleweight world champion, and now as the first-ever Mexican to claim a cruiserweight world title, holding championships in both divisions. Ramirez is ready to light up the ring once again—this time against the dangerous Yuniel Dorticós, who’s coming in with everything he’s got to steal the spotlight in this mandatory matchup. But make no mistake: Zurdo is built for moments like this. It’s going to be an unforgettable night celebrating the best of Mexican boxing!”

“We are incredibly excited to welcome Jake Paul back to DAZN against a championship calibre opponent in Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.” said Jared Kass, SVP North America, DAZN. “We are grateful to our partners at MVP and Golden Boy for delivering an unmissable night of action from start to finish. So tune in Saturday, June 28, only on DAZN.”

Paul vs. Chávez Jr. is produced and marketed by Most Valuable Promotions, with Golden Boy Promotions serving as the official licensed promoter, and is distributed by DAZN pay-per-view. The event is presented by CELSIUS Live Fit Essential Energy, also sponsored by Fansly and Event Ticket Center. Additional information, including additional bouts, will be announced in the coming weeks.

“Zurdo” Ramirez, “Scrappy” Ramirez, and Darius Fulghum leading LA-based 3Point Management into a huge 2025

LOS ANGELES (January 13, 2024) – One of the fastest developing managerial companies in boxing, 3 Point Management (3 PM), is heading into a potentially explosive and title-collecting 2025, led by Unified World Cruiserweight Champion “Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (47-1, 30 KOs), super flyweight world title contender John “Scrappy” Ramirez (14-1, 10 KOs and rising super middleweight prospect Darius “DFG” Fulghum (13-0, 11 KOs).

“Last year, everybody did what they were supposed to do to be in position for big fights in 2025,” said Julian Chua, one of the best young trainers in the industry, “especially ‘Zurdo’,’Scrappy’, and Darius. 3 PM has stacked and built what I believe will be a career-defining year for our stable of fighters.”

The lead trainer at state-of-the art Brickhouse Boxing Club in North Hollywood, California, Chua is head trainer for “Zurdo,” “Scrappy” and another 3 PM fighter, light heavyweight Kareen “Supreme” Hackett (12-1, 6 KOs).

“Zurdo,” 33, is the first Mexican-born boxer to be crowned World Super Middleweight Champion and World Cruiserweight titlist, as well as the first Mexican fighter to unify World Cruiserweight titles. Ramirez is on a journey to become the undisputed, unified King of the Cruiserweights and that translates into a mega-fight against IBF world champion Jay Opetaia (26-0, 20 KOs), of Australia. But there may also be opportunity for a Fight of the Century-type match for Ramirez against world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs), the former undisputed world cruiserweight champion who has indicated that he may drop back down to cruiserweight in an attempt to duplicate his feat. And there’s always a possibility of “Zurdo” moving up to the bridgerweight division before ultimately closing his career as a heavyweight.

“’Zurdo’ doesn’t kill himself to make weight anymore and that’s a big factor in his success at cruiserweight,” Chia noted. “The most concern for him moving up was durability but he’s proven that with his agility, angles, and defensive responsibilities. He’s not sitting in the pocket anymore because he throws 5 or 6 punches and then moves and resets. He changes his angles in the pocket and that’s a big ask for bigger guys. The cruiserweight division is perfect for him. He’s a stylish southpaw who will continue to chase all the belts; he has Badou Jack (IBF) and Jay Opetia (WBC). We still have a mandatory defense against (Yuniel) Dorticos (27-2, 25 KOs), but against Opetia will be an epic fight and I like ‘Zurdo” to win that fight when the time comes.”

WBA No. 2-rated “Scrappy” (also WBC #15) is coming of an impressive 10-round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Ephraim Bui (10-1, 8 KOs), avenging his first and only loss as a pro last April to veteran Fernando David Jimenez (16-1, 5-1, 11 KOs) last April 20th for the WBA Interim Super Flyweight World title.

“He handled that fight (vs. Bui) very well against a fighter with a lot of experience for a fighter who started boxing only eight years ago,” Chua added. “He showed his growth. He still has that swagger, but with some humility. Fighters who are undefeated don’t think anybody can beat them. ‘Scrappy’ was kind of a rogue in that fight (vs. Jimenez).

“’Scrappy’ has matured. I can’t wait until he shows everybody, maybe in one or two fights and by the end of 2025, he’s a world champion. He has a vibrant name in his division and his personality is refreshing. He’s very popular and a fighter on his way.”

The 28-year-old Fulgham, a former USA amateur heavyweight champion, has successfully transitioned into a super middleweight, where he is ranked No. 5 by the WBA. A licensed nurse fighting out of Houston, Fulghum is climbing the ladder at a relatively rapid pace.

“I don’t train Darius,” Chua commented, “but I’ve watched all his fights since he was Zurdo’s sparring partner for his fight (Dmitry) Bivol. He’s talented, very good, and he has a bright future. He’s slightly behind ‘Scrappy’ as a pro and 168 (super middleweight) is deep with some tough fighters. By 2026, I think Darius will be ready to win a world title. I have a lot of respect for his coach, Darnell Pierce. We talk quite a bit. The sky’s the limit for Darius.”

Chua also trains another 3 PM fighter, Kareem “Supreme” Hackett (12-1, 6 KOs), the former WBA Intercontinental Light Heavyweight Champion from Toronto.

“Kareem slipped up a little bit in his last fight (only loss), but he has a bright future and all the skills to become world champion,” Chua pointed out. “Kareem dismantled (11-0) Clay Waterman on ProBox TV when he won the WBA Intercontinental title. In his next fight, Waterman lost a majority decision to Paulo Aokuso (8-0, 4 KOs), an undefeated fighter from Australia who was an Olympian. If Hackett is locked in, nobody in the light heavyweight division will beat him.”

Another member of the 3 PM stable is 22-year-old German super lightweight Simon “Saucy” Vollmer (6-0, 2 KOs), a four-time member of the German National Boxing Team. Vollmer trains at Churchill Boxing Club in Santa Monica (CA) under the guidance of head trainer Pedro Neme.

Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez In position for mega-fights in 2025

LOS ANGELES (January 6, 2025) –- Unified World Cruiserweight Champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (47-1, 30 KOs) has ideally positioned himself for mega-fights in 2025 with some of boxing’s brightest stars after his remarkable 2024 campaign, in which he added the World Boxing Organization (WBO) title to his World Boxing Association (WBA) crown this past November 16th with a masterful 12-round unanimous decision over defending WBO title holder Chris “The Gentleman” Billam-Smith (20-2, 13 KOs) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

In 2016, Ramirez became the first Mexican boxer to capture a super middleweight world title (WBO) and the gifted Mexican duplicated that unprecedented feat, albeit in a higher weight class, last March 30th in against defending WBA Cruiserweight World titleholder Arsen “Feroz” Goulamirian (21-0, 14 KOs) in a dominant performance, winning 10 of 12 rounds on each of the three judges’ scorecards. Now, he is also the first Mexican to unify the world cruiserweight titles.

“Zurdo” should have been a 2024 Fighter of the Year candidate, at the very least, after winning two world titles in dominating fashion. He defeated a pair of world champions who entered the ring to fight him sporting a combined 47-1 (32 KOs) record and he won 18 of 24 total rounds. Neither defending champion was ever really in their fight with Ramirez, who used his entire arsenal to stymie Goulamirian, and after blasting Billam-Smith early in their fight, “Zurdo” cruised to victory leaving the tough Brit looking like he had been in a car crash.

“I’m excited to be in this position but the job is not done yet,” Ramires said. “My goal has always been to leave a legacy in this sport and I’m looking forward to becoming an undisputed champion this year. Many options have been presented to my team and I from Dorticos to Badou Jack and Jai Opetaia. We’ll just have to see what the future holds. Dorticos would be my WBA mandatory, Badou Jack is someone that’s been avoiding me since my super middleweight days, and Jai has a couple of the belts I want. It’s going to be a great 2025.”

Here’s a look at some of the options “Zurdo” has for 2025:

Jai Opetaia (26-0, 20 KOs) – The undefeated International Boxing Federation (IBF) World Cruiserweight Champion is scheduled to make a defense this week against David Nyika (10-0, 9 KOs). Assuming the heavy-handed Australian gets past Nyika, “Zurdo” vs. Opetia has all the makings of a classic Boxer vs. Puncher encounter. Clearly this is the most appealing cruiserweight matchup, especially if both fighters’ goal is to be the Undisputed King of the Cruiserweights.

Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) – The gifted Ukrainian is the Unified World Heavyweight Champion heading into his rematch with former world champion Tyson Fury on December 21st. Reports have Usyk seriously considering his return to the cruiserweight division, which he dominated from 2016 to 2018 before he moved up to fight as a relatively “small” heavyweight.

David Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs) – The World Boxing Council (WBC) Interim Light Heavyweight Champion defends his title February 1st against David Morrell. If the Phoenix native makes a successful title defense, he’s not going to get a shot at the winner of the February 22nd Artur BeterbievDmitry Bivol rematch until much later in 2025, if at all. Benavidez is already frustrated from waiting so long for his world light heavyweight title shot against Beterbiev or Bivol. His camp has mentioned the possibility of him moving up to the cruiserweight division, openly targeting “Zurdo.” Benavidez knows “Zurdo” and has trained at Ramirez’ gym, Brickhouse Boxing Club in North Hollywood, California.

Yuniel Dorticos (27-2, 25 KOs) – The WBA’s No. 1 mandatory challenger has fought only once in the past two years, last June in a tune-up fight, but the Cuban power puncher could be next if “Zurdo” decides to get his mandatory out of the way prior to fighting any of the aforementioned fighters.

If Ramirez’ immediate goal is to own all four major world cruiserweight crowns, eventually, he’ll need to capture the WBC title that has been held hostage by Noel Miklaelian (27-2, 12 KOs), reportedly due to issues with his promoter, Don King. Miklaelian has been named Champion in Recess and replaced as the WBC Champion by Badou Jack (28-3-3, 17 KOs), who had been the WBC Champion In Recess.

There’s always Jake Paul (11-1, 7 KOs), the You-Tuber and social media influencer who said after his win over Mike Tyson that he wants to fight for the world cruiserweight title in 2025. Paul represents a potential gold mine for “Zurdo” in a cash grab.

Although “Zurdo” has repeatedly said that his immediate goal is to unify the world cruiserweight titles before moving up to bridgerweight and eventually heavyweight, however, unifying all four titles is an incredibly difficult task because of all the mandatory fights. If that’s the case, though, Ramirez also has the option to challenge WBA Bridgerweight Champion Muslim Gadhimagomedov or WBC titlist Kevin Lerena, whether it’s a one-and-done or not.

The 33-year-old “Zurdo” Ramirez is unquestionably in the driver’s seat having more options than a college quarterback running a high-octane RPO attack.

GILBERTO “ZURDO” RAMÍREZ

“I’m happy to be here! I’m really excited for Saturday night. My team has prepared well for this fight. I think I will represent ‘Noche Latina’ very well. ¡Viva México! Watch me represent Mexico on Saturday. I’m ready for whatever he [Billam-Smith] brings to the table.”

“I’m eating better and I’m not killing myself [to make weight] in this division. I’m ready, I’m happy, I feel grateful to be here for this big opportunity and I’m ready to take it for myself and for Mexico.”

“I’ll show everyone that I’m ready for this division. I’m going to prove to myself and to everyone else on Saturday night that I’m ready to take the belt.”

“I need to throw a lot of punches. That’s it. I need to win every round [to beat Billam-Smith].”

CHRIS BILLAM-SMITH

“It’s an honor to be here on this stage, these are the fights and shows that are taking over the global audience. It’s amazing to be headlining this night, and while this night is supposed to be Zurdo’s, unfortunately I’m here to spoil the party again and I’ll be doing that Saturday night.”

“I know the level I’m at. There’s no offense taken [at being referred to as the underdog]. It gives me even more drive and he’ll be eating humble pie on Saturday night.”

“I want to fight the other champions, and we’ve tried to get in the ring and we weren’t able to do it. Obviously, Zurdo did, and I’ve followed Zurdo’s career for many years. He’s had a fantastic career and I know he’s a fighter’s fighter, who will take up any opportunity and take on any challenge. You want those fighters in your division when you’re a champion and looking for those other belts. I was really happy he won that fight and that we can get it on.”

“Yes, for sure [on his size and experience at the weight class being an advantage] but it’s what you do with the size. It’s no good to be big and strong, it’s about speed, skill, power, and the punch output that goes with that. That’s what I’m able to do and that’s why people can’t live with me in this division.”

JOSE RAMIREZ

“It’s an honor to see the country of Saudi Arabia find so much interest in Mexican culture. I’m ready for Saturday night. I’ve trained hard. I have amazing coaches in my corner. I feel ready for Saturday. It’s going to be a great fight. I’m going to go out there and do my best to show people that I’m the best 140 pounder in the world.”

ARNOLD BARBOZA JR.

“I’m very excited, we’ve trained real hard for this fight. This is my title shot. This fight has been important to me for a long time. We’re ready to go out there and have an all Mexican war in the ring.”

“We’ll do what we have to do to make a statement. Shout out to Jose Ramirez for taking this fight, I look forward to fighting him on Saturday.”

WILLIAM ZEPEDA

“I’m feeling incredibly motivated for this fight. My preparation has been intense and focused, and I’ve left no stone unturned to get myself in the best shape possible. I know my opponent is no walk in the park – he’s tough and experienced, and I respect that. But we’ve crafted a strong, smart strategy for Saturday, and I’m ready to execute it.”

“Saturday night is shaping up to be a fantastic event. We have an amazing card full of talented, experienced fighters, each bringing something special to the ring. I’m looking forward to putting on a show and delivering an unforgettable performance. My goal is to offer the people of Saudi Arabia a night of boxing they’ll remember, with all the passion, skill, and excitement this sport has to offer.”

TEVIN FARMER

“Saturday night is going to be a show that nobody will want to miss. They say that William Zepeda is the best in the 135 pound division, which I agree, but you can’t be a top dog unless you beat the top dog. Saturday night he’ll have his hands full with Tevin Farmer.”

“I’ve been on social media and I’ve seen Golden Boy and Eddie Hearn promoting this 5v5 with Zepeda vs Shakur, but I feel like that’s crazy when [Zepeda] has a guy like Tevin Former in front of him. You never put the cart before the horse, and I think it’s a bad move because once I beat [Zepeda] Saturday night I don’t know who they’re going to have for Shakur. November 16, tune in. Your boy Tevin Farmer is back. I’m going to show you all how the USA does it.”

OSCAR COLLAZO

“I’m ready for Saturday. I’ve been waiting for a challenge like this since I started my career. I welcome every challenge that is put in front of me, but this one in particular, because it’s historic.”

“Since 1999, the people of Puerto Rico haven’t had a champion like this. The last one was Felix ‘Tito’ Trinidad. I want to make history. I want to get this for my people, for my family, to make Puerto Rico proud.”

“I feel honored to be representing my land of Puerto Rico in Noche Latina. I’m going to make them proud. It’ll be a memorable night.”

OSCAR DUARTE

“Batyr [Akhmedov] is a great fighter, I’m not going to take that away from him. I respect him. But I’m also a very good fighter and I had a great camp in California. I’m going to get the win on Saturday night. I’m going to leave my heart in the ring.”

“I’m proud to be representing Mexico in this amazing display of Latino boxing. I’m fighting for my people on Saturday night.”

BATYR AKHMEDOV

“I have a very strong opponent and I believe it should be a very good fight. I expect this fight will be the fight of the night and I want to invite my Muslim brothers to come to this fight and support me.”

ZIYAD ALMAAYOUF

“I’ve chosen this career to empower, to motivate, to inspire young dreamers. After everything that I’ve gone through and been through, I do it all for them. On Saturday night you will see something magical. I expect it to be tough, but this path has always been tough. It’s been hard, but the harder the path, the higher the calling. One day I will be Saudi Arabia’s first world champion. God willing, I will make this happen.”

JUAN GARCIA

“I hope to put on a great show for the fans here in Saudi Arabia. I have a good opponent in front of me. I’ve prepared well and I’m not going to make it easier for him. He better be ready.”

OSCAR DE LA HOYA

“We strongly feel that these fighters you see here Saturday night will fight with a lot of passion, utilizing the latino style of boxing. The Mexican style of boxing. There’s something about this card that will bring out the best in every single fighter out here. When Golden Boy Promotions put this card together, we were thinking about making sure every single fight is a main event style fight, evenly matched, tough fights for both sides. We don’t know who’s going to win, only they know. One thing we know is they will fight with a lot of passion, and that’s what this card is all about. That Latino flavor. If it wasn’t for His Excellency, this card would not be possible. He’s facilitating for the whole world to watch for free.”

BEN SHALOM

“Wow, this feels so surreal. When I met Chris Billam-Smith, the dream was to get out of Bournemouth; let’s get on our way to a world title. And, wow, the journey has only gotten better and better and better. I want to thank Riyadh Season, it is great to be back in the Kingdom where boxing dream are made now.”

“Golden Boy have put on an incredible card. But for me, this is the best boxing card fans can have access to for free. It shows a huge commitment to the sport.”

“What makes me laugh is all this talk from the U.S. media – we have had it our whole career – that somehow Billam-Smith is the underdog and it’s somehow a mismatch. Chris Billam-Smith has been an underdog his whole life and every time he is put down, every time he comes through. There is going to be a lot of people embarrassed on Sunday morning, I can promise you.”
