Keyshawn Davis Destroys Lemos in 2

Keyshawn Davis did not care that Gustavo Lemos came in over six pounds overweight. He had no hesitation in taking the fight. He knew what was coming. Davis took out Lemos in round two of their lightweight bout in front of a sold-out crowd of 10,568 at The Scope Arena in Davis’ hometown of Norfolk, Virginia.

In round two, Davis dropped Lemos with a hard counter right. Seconds later, it was another even more powerful left hook that dumped Lemos on the deck. Davis finished off Lemos with another left that put him down and the fight was waved off as Lemos fell to the canvas at 1:08.

Davis 134.2 lbs of Norfolk, VA is 12-0 with eight knockouts. Lemos, 141.4 lbs of Buenos Aries, ARG is 29-2.

“I had no hesitation. Me and my team, we stuck to our guns. We said if he comes in too much over we ain’t gonna fight. But he followed his game plan, and he didn’t come too much over (at the weight check on Friday morning), so we had a fight and we gave a spectacular night,” Davis said. “I didn’t feel no power in him. I actually sat back on the ropes one little second, and I let him throw his overhand that he loves and I felt it on my shoulder. And I looked at my brothers and gave them that face like, no, not enough (power). It ended in the second round so maybe he didn’t really get a chance to hit me.”

Troy Isley Decisions Tyler Howard

Troy Isley remained undefeated with a 10-round unanimous decision over Tyler Howard in a middleweight bout.

Isley, 158.9 lbs oof Alexandria, VA won by scores of 99-91 and 98-92 and is now 14-0. Howard, 159.8 lbs of Crossville, TN is 20-2.

Isley landed 143 of 460 punches. Howard was 69 of 256.

Abdullah Mason had to get off the deck twice and came back to stop Yohan Vasquez in round two of their 10-round lightweight fight.

In the first minute of the fight, Vasquez dropped Mason for the first time in his career with a short left hand on the inside. Mason evened things up quickly as seconds later Mason dropped Vasquez with an uppercut. As Mason seemingly went for the finish, he walked into another short left hook and Mason sent down again. In round two, Mason dropped Vasquez with an uppercut to the body and the fight was over at 1:59.

Mason, 135.7 lbs of Cleveland is now 16-0 with eight knockouts. Vasquez, 134.2 lbs of Santiago, DR is 26-6.

Kelvin Davis remained undefeated with an eight-round unanimous decision over Yeis Solano in a junior welterweight bout.

In round eight Davis put Solano on the deck with a straight right hand just before the final bell sounded.

Davis, 142.5 lbs of Norfolk, VA won by scores of 80-71 and 79-72 twice and is now 14-0. Solano, 142.7 lbs of Monteria, COL is 15-4.

DeAnda, 159.9 lbs of Amhurst, VA won by scores of 78-74 and 77-75 twice and is now 16-0. Pettus, 158.3 lbs of South Carolina is 12-3.

Keon Davis made a successful pro debut with a four-round unanimous decision over Jalen Moore in a welterweight bout.

Davis, 148;7 lbs of Norfolk, VA won by scores of 40-36 on al cards and is now 1-0. Moore, 150.4 lbs of Dallas is 1-2.

Press Conference Notes: Keyshawn Davis Pumped Up for Norfolk Homecoming Against Gustavo Lemos

NORFOLK, Va. (Nov. 6, 2024) — The long-awaited homecoming for Keyshawn Davis (11-0, 7 KOs), the fighting pride of Norfolk and the Seven Cities, is in full swing.

The lightweight contender and U.S. Olympic silver medalist will make his main event debut this Friday, Nov. 8, at Norfolk’s Scope Arena, where he’ll take on Argentina-born powerhouse Gustavo Lemos (29-1, 19 KOs) in a 10-round showdown.

Davis will top the most significant boxing card at the storied venue since Norfolk legend Pernell “Sweet Pea” Whitaker defended his welterweight crown against Buddy McGirt in October 1994. At Wednesday’s press conference, Norfolk Mayor Kenneth Cooper Alexander, Ph.D, joined the hometown hero on the dais. A sold-out crowd is expected for the 757’s latest superstar.

In the 10-round middleweight co-feature, Troy Isley (13-0, 5 KOs) will lock horns with Tyler Howard (20-1, 11 KOs). Since joining forces with Brian “BoMac” McIntyre before his win over Vladimir Hernandez last November, Isley has secured victories this year against Marcos Hernandez in March and longtime amateur rival Javier Martinez in June.

Davis-Lemos and Isley Howard will stream live and exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+ at approximately 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT. The undercard — also streaming live on ESPN+ — will start at 6:20 p.m. ET/3:20 p.m. PT.

Keyshawn’s two brothers will also be featured. His older brother, junior welterweight contender Kelvin Davis (13-0, 7 KOs), will fight Yeis Solano (15-3, 10 KOs) in an eight-rounder, while his younger brother, Keon Davis, makes his professional debut in a four-round junior middleweight tilt versus Jalen Moore (1-1, 1 KO).

Promoted by Top Rank, the remaining tickets are available at Ticketmaster.com.

This is what the fighters had to say at the press conference.

Keyshawn Davis

“This means a lot to all three of us and, of course, to the city. There’s been a 30-year dry spell {of boxing}. And God had it written that we would come back to the city.”

“We’re doing this in a major way. We’ve already sold 10,000 tickets, and we’re going to sell some more. It’s going to be a treat on Friday.”

It’s super important for me to put on a show. Every single time I get in that ring, I love putting on shows. I like having fun, but I also like the people around me to have fun. I’m a dramatic fighter. I like doing the unexpected, so expect that Friday night.”

“It’s not going to be beautiful. There’s going to be blood everywhere. His nose might be a little lopsided after. But, I respect you, Gustavo. You are an amazing fighter. I appreciate you for taking the fight in my hometown, but I’m going to f**k you up.”

Gustavo Lemos

“I don’t see any difference between this and my last fights. I have a strong opponent, and I’m going to take advantage of this opportunity.”

“I’ve always said that he is a good opponent and that we’re going to have a beautiful fight.”

“I respect all my opponents, whether they are good or bad. I wish him good luck on Friday, and tell him to be careful.”

Troy Isley

“I expect a hometown fight like if I were fighting at home. Keyshawn’s family and my family. Everybody is going to be there. It’s going to be lit Friday night, and I can’t wait.”

“Our bond {with the Davis brothers} means everything. We started this thing together. We talked about everything we were going to do. And, we’re doing it now. And we’re going to continue to do it.”

“I’m going to f**k you up. That’s all that matters. He knows what’s up. He’s going to see Friday night. That’s why they call me the ‘Transformer.’”

Tyler Howard

“A win in a co-main event on ESPN+ against someone the caliber of Troy Isley, 2020 U.S. Olympian, is just another catapult into my career. It would be massive.”

“He keeps interrupting. But we’re gonna square up on Friday, bro. I’ll be there. I promise you, I’ll be there.”

“Listen, they call me ‘Hercules’ for a reason. If you come forward, you’re going to stop coming forward when you get rocked. It’s going to happen.”

Kelvin Davis

“It’s very special for all three of us. Keyshawn is having his first main event in Norfolk. And Keon is having his pro debut under his brother’s first main event. So, I’m proud of my little brothers. And it’s a dream come true.”

“I just have to be myself. It’s different now because we’re in Norfolk, my hometown. But I just have to be myself, and I’ll dominate in spectacular fashion.”

Keon Davis

“This means a lot to me. I’ve been thinking about this for my whole career. I’m happy to be here.”

“My experiences have made me a better fighter. It’s helped build my IQ. I appreciate guys like Terence Crawford, Shakur Stevenson, and Keyshawn Davis. They definitely helped me get better in the gym.”

Press Conference Notes: Norfolk Native Keyshawn Davis Announces November 8 Homecoming Battle Against Gustavo Lemos @ Scope Arena

NORFOLK, Va. (Sept. 5, 2024) — Keyshawn Davis is ready to put on a show for his city. The Norfolk native will take on Argentina’s Gustavo Lemos in the 10-round lightweight main event at Scope Arena on Friday, Nov 8. It’s the most significant boxing event at the storied venue since Norfolk legend Pernell “Sweet Pea” Whitaker defended his welterweight crown against Buddy McGirt in October 1994.

The undercard will feature the other members of “DB3.” Keyshawn’s older brother, rising junior welterweight Kelvin “Night Night” Davis (13-0, 7 KOs), fights Yeis Solano (15-3, 10 KOs) in an eight-rounder. Keyshawn’s younger brother, U.S. Olympic Trials champion Keon Davis, will make his pro debut in a four-round welterweight contest.

The Davis Brothers were joined on stage by Norfolk Mayor Kenny Alexander, in addition to undefeated middleweight Troy Isley (13-0, 5 KOs), who will fight Tyler Howard (20-1, 11 KOs) in a 10-rounder.

Promoted by Top Rank, ticket information will be announced shortly.

This is what the fighters had to say at Thursday’s press conference.

Keyshawn Davis

“This is an honor. I appreciate everyone for coming out. Top Rank is here and putting on this show for us, for the town, and for the 757. It’s going to be a Michael Jordan story on November 8.”

“This event is bigger than us. I want to reach as many people as I can with this event so that the people from this town know that you can make it from here. There are resources here. And we’re bringing resources here, like a gym that kids can go to. I want this event to reach many people. I want the Seven Cities to be on the map, so they can be like Atlanta, New York, or Chicago.”

“I hand-picked this opponent because I know he can fight. He’s a good fighter. But I’m a dangerous fighter. Just know that if you come with that, I’m going to come with that, too. Gustavo Lemos is going to try all that extra stuff, but ya’ll know how we rock out here. Norfolk is not going for any of that. I’m going to tone him right on down, and we are going to have a fun night on Friday, November 8.”

Kelvin Davis

“This is truly a blessing. We definitely talked about this when we were kids. We dreamed about it. And it’s finally here. It hasn’t hit me yet. We’re really bringing it to Norfolk, 757. It hasn’t been done since ‘Sweat Pea’ Pernell Whitaker. And we’re trying to follow what he set for us. We’ve got his family out here supporting us. And his legacy will live out through us.”

“‘Sweat Pea’ used to come to the amateur fights and watch us. He would watch the amateur talent. And he would give us a few pointers after our fights. He would tell us things to get better. That was a blessing to have a legend watch us fight as an amateur.”

“You can expect fireworks. We’re fighting at home. And I’m really comfortable at home. So whoever comes in this territory is getting knocked out.”

Keon Davis

“This is a great opportunity. It’s going to be a great night. I’m going to make my pro debut. I’m coming for the stoppage. I’m coming to knock somebody out.”

“I feel like this is the perfect time to turn pro. My brother is doing his first homecoming, and I feel like it would be perfect to turn pro on the same card as them. It’s going to be great.”

Troy Isley

“Coming into the pros, I kind of lost my confidence. So, being around these three and them telling me I’m good enough has helped so much. They told me I shouldn’t doubt myself. So, being around them during the last three camps has helped a lot.”

“It’s going to be a great show. Ya’ll are gonna want to tune in. All four of us are going to put on a show. Don’t miss out.”

Norfolk Dreamin’: Keyshawn Davis Returns Home to Face Gustavo Lemos in Lightweight Main Event November 8 at Scope Arena LIVE on ESPN+

NORFOLK, Va. (Sept. 4, 2024) — Keyshawn “The Businessman” Davis is closing in on a world title shot, but first, he must defend his home turf. The lightweight contender and U.S. Olympic silver medalist will face Argentina-born puncher Gustavo Lemos in the 10-round main event on Friday, Nov. 8, at Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia.

In the world championship co-feature, WBO welterweight king Brian Norman Jr. will defend his crown against Puerto Rican puncher Derrieck Cuevas

The entire Davis-Lemos card will stream live and exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+.

Promoted by Top Rank, ticket information will be announced shortly.

“As a young kid growing up in Norfolk, I dreamed of accomplishing enough to headline a card at Scope Arena one day. My boxing idol is the legendary Pernell ‘Sweet Pea’ Whitaker, and I want to pack that arena like he used to. He’s the greatest from my city, and I’m honored to continue that legacy,” Keyshawn Davis said. “I can’t wait to put on a spectacular show against a tough opponent in Gustavo Lemos. Everyone from the 757 will be in my corner.”

“Norfolk has been waiting for Keyshawn Davis to come home for years. This is going to be a great night of fights headlined by a real competitive main event,” said Top Rank Chairman Bob Arum. “Lemos is full of confidence, and Keyshawn will have to be in top form on November 8 at Scope Arena.”

Davis (11-0, 7 KOs) enters his homecoming celebration ranked No. 3 at lightweight by the WBO, IBF, and WBC. He earned those rankings with two devastating showings to begin the year, starting with February’s sixth-round TKO of former two-division world champion Jose Pedraza. Five months later, he thrilled the crowd at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, dominating Mexican puncher Miguel Madueño over 10 rounds. He now makes his headlining debut in the biggest boxing event Scope Arena has seen since Whitaker defended his welterweight crown against Buddy McGirt in October 1994.

Lemos (29-1, 19 KOs), from Buenos Aires, Argentina, returns to the lightweight ranks for the first time in over two years. He last fought at 135 pounds in March 2022, when he stopped British former world champion Lee Selby in five rounds in front of his hometown fans. Lemos returned to action in December 2023, starching Javier Jose Clavero in the opening round. That set the stage for his American debut in April. Lemos traveled to Las Vegas for an IBF junior welterweight world title eliminator and was on the short end of a 12-round decision to American standout Richardson Hitchins. While many experts believed Lemos deserved the nod, he now moves down five pounds to face another unbeaten American mega-talent.

Lemos said, “This is a big occasion for Keyshawn Davis, and I am coming to Norfolk to spoil the party. He picked the wrong guy. On November 8, he’ll find out the truth. He’s not on my level.”

Norman (26-0, 20 KOs) is boxing’s youngest male world champion, a native of Atlanta who turned pro in 2018 at the age of 17. The 23-year-old made his Top Rank debut in early 2023 and was unbeaten in four fights with the company before May’s showdown with Giovani Santillan. The heavily favored Santillan was fighting in front of his hometown fans in San Diego, and Norman pulled off the upset win via 10th-round knockout. He won the WBO interim world title with that stunner and was elevated to full champion in August.

Cuevas (27-1-1, 19 KOs), the WBO No. 7 contender, enters his first world title fight riding a four-fight knockout streak that began in December 2022 with a second-round blitzing of Esneiker Correa. He has punched his passport for his last three fights, which took place in Panama in 2023. Last December, Cuevas knocked down Marlon Aguas in the fifth round en route to a sixth-round TKO triumph.

The undercard is also scheduled to include the following young talents:

  • Rising lightweight sensation Abdullah Mason (15-0, 13 KOs) looks to take the next step against Dominican-born puncher Yohan Vasquez (26-5, 21 KOs) in an eight-rounder. The 20-year-old Cleveland native is 4-0 with four knockouts this year, all in four rounds or less.

  • Keyshawn’s Olympic teammate, middleweight contender, and Washington, D.C. native Troy “The Transformer” Isley (13-0, 5 KOs) returns to his home region roots in a 10-rounder against Tyler “Hercules” Howard (20-1, 11 KOs). Isley picked up the NABO title in June with a unanimous decision over then-unbeaten brawler Javier Martinez.

  • Middleweight prospect Austin DeAnda (14-0, 10 KOs), who hails from Amherst, Virginia, will take on DeAundre Pettus (11-2, 6 KOs) in an eight-rounder.

His ring return date will be announced shortly.

“Gustavo Lemos is a talented, fan-friendly fighter, and we look forward to giving him the platform and fights he deserves,” said Top Rank Chairman Bob Arum. “He is a handful for any fighter at 135 or 140 pounds.”

Lemos said, “When my promoters from O.R. Promotions told me that they had begun talks with Top Rank, I was thankful. The wait and hard work have paid off, and I will make the most of this opportunity. I am finally entering the big leagues, fulfilling a lifelong dream, and getting closer and closer to the possibility of becoming a world champion. Being part of the best promotional company in the world motivates me to give my best every day in training. Thank you, Top Rank, for your trust. I can’t wait for the future.”

“We have been working for a long time to achieve this great alliance with Top Rank, and we are thrilled that it’s finally happened. Gustavo deserves this opportunity, and boxing deserves a champion like him. Indeed, we dare say it needs him,” said Sebastian Rivero of O.R. Promotions. “And we are happy that one of the most important promoters in the world shares our belief in Gustavo. We are sure that the best opportunities will come from Top Rank.”

Lemos (29-1, 19 KOs), from Buenos Aires, is an eight-year pro who fought exclusively in his homeland while building a 29-0 record. In March 2022, he demolished former world champion Lee Selby in five rounds at Luna Park in an IBF lightweight world title eliminator. He became the first fighter to knock out Selby, a 32-fight veteran who retired shortly after the bout. Lemos returned in December 2023 with a first-round stoppage over Javier Jose Clavero. In April, he faced unbeaten American Richardson Hitchins in an IBF junior welterweight world title eliminator, coming up on the short end of a debated decision.

HITCHINS: I WOULD FACE MATIAS NEXT

Richardson Hitchins says he would jump at the chance to meet IBF king Subriel Matias as he prepares to hit the scales ahead of his final eliminator with Gustavo Lemos for the IBF World Jr. Welterweight title at Bleaulive at Fontainebleau Las Vegas on Saturday April 6, live worldwide on DAZN.

TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW VIA TICKETMASTER

Hitchins (17-0 7 KOs) can take a giant step towards landing a World title shot with victory over Lemos (29-0 19 KOs) in Sin City, and the Brooklyn ace is determined to show fans and rivals alike that he is here to stay as an elite-level headliner.

The 26 year old meets the unbeaten Argentine for the honor of being next in line to meet IBF king Subriel Matias, with the Puerto Rican monster defending his title against Australian Liam Paro in a homecoming defense on June 15, live worldwide on DAZN.

Hitchins has designs on sitting ringside at the Coliseo Juan Aubin Cruz Abreu in Manati knowing that he’ll be next for the winner, and although the IBF 10 pounds check-weigh is always a consideration with the IBF and a showdown with WBC king Devin Haney also whets his appetite, the Brooklyn star would gladly tackle Matias for the belt to prove he’s ready to dominate a division that is rapidly becoming the most exciting in the sport.

“I am not going to lie, I do prefer the WBC route – but if the opportunity presents itself for the World title, and on Saturday I feel good, why not the IBF?’ said Hitchins. “It’s a big fight with me and Subriel Matias, everyone would be interested in that, so let’s see what comes to the table.

“I have a fight to focus on, Devin has a fight to focus on, I’ve got a tough Argentinian in front of me and things that I have to go out and do. I want to show on Saturday what I’ve always been showing; that I am a great fighter, a dominant fighter. I’ve shown that time and again, it’s the same old story. People say that it’s going to be a tough fight for me, they’ll be surprised if I can make it look easy, but then I go out there and do that again and again.

“If I am in a tough fight with someone that’s never been in with anyone of the calibre of me, imagine what type of fight it’s going to be for the guy fighting me. Boxing is all about distance and timing, knowing what shots to pick, where to be, it’s a sweet science and I think I am one of the young masters of it.

“Everybody had a lot of shit to talk about my last fight against Jose Zepeda so no-one should miss this one because the fans have made me put on not a dominant performance, because I’ve already done that, but a punishing dominant performance. I can’t let Lemos get away with any mistakes, any mistakes he makes, he’s got to pay. I feel like this is going to be another performance like John Bauza, it’s going to show that you put a guy in front of me that isn’t at the top of the sport, period, I’ll show his levels.

“I don’t know much about him so I can’t say if this is the toughest test of my life. I’ve been at the high level for a long, long time, since the amateurs and moved in the pro ranks where I’ve had to prove myself early. Zepeda talked about experience before our fight, but I told him, I have experience. People were building up the fight because he’d fought for the World title three times, but I had already beaten a World champion, a guy that had done what Zepeda was trying to do.

“So when people were saying that it was going to be a tough test, when I got in there on September 23, he was one of the easiest fights of my career that I can remember, from pro debut to now. That’s a testimony to how much I’ve grown as a professional and a fighter, I made that fight clearly  easy, so we’ll see what happens with Lemos, he’s a guy that hasn’t fought anyone with any craft or skills, so when he gets in there with me, it’s going to be a whole different ballgame because he’s not just that he’s going up in levels, he’s fighting one of the best young boxers in the sport – period.

“When you get in the ring with me it’s way different from standing in front of anyone else, and he’ll see that. He’s tough, he’s Argentinian, he’s going to try have his way but it’s my job to neutralize that. I can be anything I need to be to be victorious on the night.”

Hitchins’ clash with Lemos is part of a big night of action in Las Vegas as fellow rising contender Diego Pacheco defends his USWBC and WBO International Super-Middleweight titles against Shawn McCalman.

World title action on the card comes in the form of unbeaten Australian Skye Nicolson looking to claim a World crown at the first attempt as she meets Sarah Mahfoud for the vacant WBC Featherweight strap, while British Olympic gold medal man Galal Yafai defends his WBC International Flyweight title against Agustin Mauro Gauto.

Marc Castro gets a first title bout in his 12th pro outing, taking on Abraham Montoya for the vacant WBC Continental Americas Super-Featherweight title, Harley Mederos is in action for the sixth time in the paid ranks over six rounds against Pedro Vicente and there’s a pro debut for former Team USA talent Steven Navarro over six rounds at Super-Flyweight against Jose Lopez.

FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES FROM HITCHINS VS. LEMOS IN LAS VEGAS

Richardson Hitchins

This is my fourth fight with Matchroom and second headlining, my life has changed tremendously since that guy that was sat at the table going back and forth with Montana Love at that first time. I was saying that I was the best fighter on that card and that I should be headlining, and I have worked hard and spoken that into fruition.

At this point I can say that I have been here already, even before I was signed with Matchroom, I’ve said it numerous times before – I’ve beat former World champions, guys that were big punchers, guys that were undefeated; he has never been here. This is a whole different level. He’s never been punched in his face; I’ve been punched in my shit hard coming up. Everybody he’s fought had terrible records, it’s different when you get in with me, it’s a different type of game. Power isn’t going to win him this fight, being aggressive and trying to go to the body, that’s not going to win you this fight. It’s going to take him having that mind, experience and skill set to try to compete with me.

I expect Saturday night to be a whitewash, and for me to show that I’m on a whole different level. The only thing that can save him in this fight is his heart and if he can take a punch, and I’ve seen him hurt with bums. I’ve never been down in my career and never been hurt, thank god, but we’ll see what happens on Saturday but I just feel that I’m on a whole different level, up there with the Devin Haney’s, Subriel Matias’, Shakur Stevenson’s, the top level guys; I’m the cream of the crop type of talent and you have to start talking that like because I go out there over and over and prove it, I dominate.

If this guy comes out the way he’s been coming out in his last fights, like the way he fought Lee Selby, it’s not going to go good for him. Lee hurt him in the third round, and I ain’t Lee Selby – he was 35 years old and coming up from 126lbs. This guy has never fought anyone, I’m going to step on him on Saturday and I won’t lie Eddie, I’m robbing you, this is free money, it’s easy, you are just making my bank account look bigger.

I don’t just come up here and talk shit to amuse the fans, I’ve proved myself already. It’s time to get to that world stage. I’ve proved myself with the Jose Zepeda’s, Argenis Mendis’, John Bauza’s – I’ve proved myself and I’m going to keep proving myself every time I go out there.

I will beat whoever you put in front of me. Subriel Matias, Devin Haney, Teofimo Lopez, Pitbull; whoever you put in front of me, I will get the job done. When you get in there with me, fighters don’t look the same. I’m not one of the guys Lemos has fought, Devin has fought; I’m not going to just receive punches or just be there; there’s going to be some shit coming back at you, there’s going to be a lot of thinking that you are going to have to do in there. My focus is on Gustavo Lemos, not Devin Haney, we’ve got to get past Saturday night just like I’ve had to get past all the other fights I’ve had.

Gustavo Lemos

We’ve had some great support from Argentina, and we’re fully prepared for this big fight and great opportunity.

Hitchins is in front of me and in the way of my path at the moment, so we hope we can get through this, and we hope that the public and fans enjoy the show on Saturday.

We have come to win, and I do my talking inside the ring. It feels like my opponent likes to do a lot of talking outside the ring but let’s see if he’s still speaking inside the ring, that would be beautiful if he’s still speaking inside the ring.

Diego Pacheco

I want to thank God, my team, Matchroom, DAZN, and everyone for this amazing opportunity to be here once again in front of all you guys, it’s a blessing. I’m super confident in the work that I’ve put in for this camp, I’m getting better, I feel the sharpest I’ve ever been right now, I’m just ready to go on Saturday night. I’m 20-0 and ranked in the top ten in every sanctioning body, so I am just ready and excited for everything that is to come. I’ve got a tough opponent in front of me on Saturday night, I’ve prepared for that and I’m ready for it.

I’m locked in on the guy in front of me. I have to get past him before I can think about the future fights and that’s what I’m focused on and what I’ve been working for. I’m extremely motivated and excited for this fight and to be able to showcase my talent again in Las Vegas, it’s an amazing opportunity and to have a lot of talent on the undercard too, I’m so happy to be here and ready to put on a great show for everyone.

Shawn McCalman

I can say me and my team we walk into this very confidently, we accepted the fight with no doubts and we’re just continuing to present ourselves that way; confident and calm and we’ll go into the fight the same way.

It’s a big fight and opportunity, one that I believe I’m ready for and will capitalize on come Saturday night.

Galal Yafai

It’s good to be here in Las Vegas, you’ve put me on some great shows like New York and now Las Vegas, this is another box ticked, but it’s all about winning, looking good and that’s all I care about.

I’m sick of my opponents because they are all tough! But I just have to do what I do. He’s tough, he’s good, he’s got a big fan base, but I don’t care about any of that. I’ve got to go out and do what I do.

I always look at the other fights. Sunny Edwards is a good fighter. I dont want to try and mention his name this week to try and get some clout because I know what he’s like. Let me get through this fight and then I can think about them fights after.

Agustin Mauro Gauto

I have to thank my promotional team and Matchroom as well for the opportunity. It’s true that I’m a very experienced fighter but I also know that he’s very experienced in terms of the amateur field, so we’re very prepared for this fight.

On Saturday you are going to see a surprise result, but what I will say is it will be a great fight without doubt.

I want to thank all the Argentinian fans, I’m really delighted and grateful for the support, but now it’s about becoming known in America and making a name for myself here.

Skye Nicolson

As soon as Serrano wasn’t going to be the person I was going to be fighting for this belt, Mahfoud was obviously the next option, the next best, and we want to fight the best, and beat the best to show that I am the best. So I am very excited for this fight.

It’s a great privilege to be fighting for this belt, my amateur career was my amateur career, but I want my pro career to be its own and I’m really ready for this.

I’m turning around Australian boxing this weekend 100 per cent.

Sarah Mahfoud

I’m going all the way on Saturday and I’m really looking forward to this fight with Skye.

I don’t know if it was success against Armando Serrano, I lost the fight, but I am here to become World champion again. I learned a lot from the Serrano fight, and I am coming back stronger, and I’ve worked hard to be here.

I’m so happy to be here in Las Vegas, it’s the biggest experience of all, everything is so big, and the fight is going to be big too.

Marc Castro

I feel good and I’m thankful to be here. We’re looking to get the win over Abraham on Saturday.

We’re moving as a unit, Eddie Hearn, Keith Connolly, my dad, and we’re ready to go capture my first belt.

I expect him to be ready, he always comes ready, so I’m prepared for it.

Abraham Montoya

You can expect the best version of me – I’m come for another victory in my career.

The win over Lopez was an opportunity that I got to fight in my home city and one we took on with full gusto, as I will for this fight. We’ve prepared really well and we’re ready for whatever comes in the ring.

HITCHINS: I’M READY TO BECOME A SUPERSTAR

Richardson Hitchins has told Matchroom’s ‘Flash Knockdown’ podcast that he’s on the road to superstardom and will ram that home with a dazzling performance in his biggest fight to date when he takes on Gustavo Lemos in a final eliminator for the IBF World Jr. Welterweight title at Bleaulive Theater at Fontainebleau Las Vegas on Saturday April 6, live worldwide on DAZN.TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW VIA TICKETMASTERLISTEN TO THE LATEST EPISODE OF MATCHROOM’S ‘FLASH KNOCKDOWN’ PODCAST HEREHitchins (17-0 7 KOs) can take a giant step towards landing a World title shot with victory over Lemos (29-0 19 KOs) in Sin City, and the Brooklyn ace is determined to show fans and rivals alike that he is here to stay as an elite-level headliner. The 26 year old meets the unbeaten Argentine with daunting carrot of a shot at IBF king Subriel Matias dangling ominously in what is fast becoming the most exciting division in the sport. Hitchins though is not focusing on the champions or indeed Lemos, but just working on perfecting his craft, as he believes the best of Richardson Hitchins is too much for any foe, and that the boxing world has already started to recognize that. “I think I am a star already and superstar status comes with me promoting myself, making the best of my opportunities and getting to that superstar status,” said Hitchins. “My name is buzzing already as if I am a World champion, people put me in these fantasy fights like ‘I want to see Richardson Hitchins vs. Devin Haney, vs. Subriel Matias’ and this is just in a year that I’ve been with Matchroom. Once I’ve had a little bit of exposure to the boxing fans, my name is on the scene, so I feel like slowly but surely, people are seeing my talent and that will turn me into the superstar that I want to be once I get my hands on the World championships and big fights.

“I feel good, I feel ready for the moment. This is what I’ve been doing my whole life, this will just be another day in the ring for me and picking up another victory. That’s what we plan to do on Saturday.

“This is big, I’m not going to lie, it’s a huge opportunity. When I first fought on a Matchroom card in Ohio I said, ‘I’m supposed to be the main event right now’, and I don’t even think it was a year later that I was headlining my first card. I felt Matchroom was giving opportunities to fighters that were on a lesser level than me, and I felt I belonged at the level where I was headlining my own cards and be on the verge of a World title. I proved myself slowly but surely that I belong with the elite guys in the division, and now is the time to stamp my name in the division and in the sport.

“I’ve just be working extremely hard and perfecting my craft like I always do. I was told if it’s not broke don’t fix it, so we just tweak it. We’ve done some different things in camp to better condition me. As far as mentally and skillfully, we’re trying to get better in that aspect, to grow and elevate my game. My mindset is like what Kobe Bryant said, I’m chasing perfection even though I’ll probably never get it, because I know that most of my opponents will never chase something that’s so unobtainable, that will give me the edge over a lot of people.

“I’m one of those fighters that people say, ‘oh he’s boring’, but I’m also one of those fighters that could box a perfect fight and not have a glove landed on me. So I feel like that’s my motto and I’m sticking to hitting and not getting hit, and elevating my game, that’s what we focus on in camp, everything else is just getting in shape and making sure my body is in physical condition to endure punishment if needed or to go any grueling rounds if that’s what it comes down to.”
