According to Dan Rafael of espn.com WBO Welterweight champion Jessie Vargas signed to face IBF champion Kell Brook later this summer.

MACAO, CHINA (NOVEMBER 23, 2014)–Manny Pacquiao dominated Chris Algieri by knocking him down 6 times en-route to a 12-round unanimous decision at the Cotai Arena inside Venetian Hotel and Casino.

Pacquiao looked quick and powerful and was able to catch up Algieri whose strategy was to move and jab at a great distance and use his nearly five inch height advantage. Algieri was dropped from a straight left in round two. Pacquiao began to land hard shots on the inside as early as round four and he cut the distance on Algieri. Pacquiao scored two knockdowns in round six as he landed a perfect that sent the previously undefeated WBO Jr. Welterweight champ to the canvas. Pacquiao continued to onslaught the challenger as he sent him down one more time in the round.

The second half of the fight was not much better for the native of Huntington, Long Island as he ate a perfectly placed left that deposited him hard on the canvas. Algieri looked in serious distress and Pacquiao jumped on him to score a 2nd knockdown from a hard flurry of punches. Pacquiao was looking to end the bout but the bell rang to save Algieri. Pacquiao put a stamp on the fight when he was sent to the deck for a 6th and final time from a hard uppercut in round ten.

Pacquiao, 143.8 lbs of the Philippines won by scored of 120-102 and 119-103 twice and he is now 57-6-2. Algieri, 136.6 lbs is now 20-1.

Chinese hero Zou Shiming scored an exciting yet lopsided 12-round unanimous decision over Kwanpichit Onesongchaigym in a Flyweight bout.

Shiming got off to a blazing start as he dropped Onesongchaigym twice in round two. The first from a left hook and the second from a perfect right to the chin. The two continued to land hard shots but Shiming had more options as he boxed and used his feet. In round six, Shiming was credited with a knockdown on what looked like a slip from the Pacquiao look-a-like. earlier in the round, Onesongchaigym was deducted a point from a debatable low blow.

In round eye, Shiming;s left eye began to bleed and close. The cut worsened in round ten, but Shiming who did endure some hard rights to the head was able to fight effectively down the stretch and even be credited with another knockdown in round twelve and he went to the victory by way of 119-106 twice and 120-103.

Shiming, 112 lbs of China is now 6-0. Onesongchaigym, 112 lbs is now 27-1-2.

Vasyl Lomachenko made the 1st defense of the WBO Featherweight title with a 12-round unanimous decision over Chonlatarn Piriyapino

Lomachenko dominated from the opening bell and in round four he landed a vicious combination that was capped off by a flush left to the face that sent Piriyapinyo to the canvas. Lomachenko dominated the bout despite injuring his left hand around round seven.

Lomachenko, 126 lbs of Odessa, UKR won by scores of 120-107 and is now 3-1. Piriapinyo, 126 lbs of Chonburi, THA is now 51-2.

Under the tutelage of first-rime trainer, Roy Jones Jr, Jessie Vargas retained the WBA Super Lightweight title with a 12-round unanimous decision over former Lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco.

In round two, Vargas was cut under his left eye from a headbutt. In round three, Vargas started to surge ahead by landing some solid lead and counter rights. He also started mixing in body shots.

The action picked up in round seve with both landing good shots in the center of the ring. DeMarco was bleeding around the right eye. In round nine, DeMarco rocked Vargas with a perfect straight left that set off a terrific exchange. Demarco finished off the round landing some hard combinations.

Vargas, 140 lbs of Las Vegas won by scores of 116-112 on all cards and is now 26-0. DeMarco, 139.3 lbs of Los Mochis, MX is now 31-4-1.

Kuok Kun Ng scored a 6-round unanimous decision over Stphen Attard in a fight featuring undefeated Super Welterweights.

In round five, NG was cut in the middle of the forehead from a headbutt.

Scores were 57-56 twice and 59-54 for NG, 153.9 lbs of Macao, CHN and is now 6-0. Attard, 151.1 lbs of Preston, AUS is now 4-1-2.

Rex Tso scored a 8-round unanimous decision over Espinos Sabu in a Super Flyweight bout.

Scores were 79-73 and 78-74 twice for Tso, 114.8 lbs of Hong Kong, CHN and is mow 15-0. Sabu, 115.6 lbs of Manado, IND is now 8-3-1.

Jerwin Ancajas scored a perfect one punch knockout at 1:48 of round three of his scheduled 8-round Super Flyweight bout over Fadhili Majiha.

Ancajas landed a perfect left to the face that sent Majiha down for the ten count.

Ancajas, 115 lbs of the Philippines is 22-1-1 with 14 knockous. Majiha, 114 1/4 lbs is 15-6-4.

“I called Jessie’s fight on HBO when he fought [Anton] Novikov last August. I am working with five fighters right now but Jessie is my first champion. We worked on Jessie’s mechanics for the first four weeks before we began sparring. LOS ANGELES (November 7, 2014) — Undefeated World Boxing Organization (WBO) junior welterweight champion CHRIS ALGIERI made his final appearance in Los Angeles before heading off to The Venetian Macao to challenge Fighter of the Decade and reigning WBO welterweight champion MANNY “Pacman” PACQUIAO. Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs), from Huntington, NY on Long Island, who has Bachelor of Science degree in Health Care Management, a Masters degree in Clinical Nutrition and a Ph.D. in Upsets Inside the Ring, hosted a Los Angeles press conference luncheon on Thursday, at The Conga Room.

International motion picture superstar SYLVESTER STALLONE paid a surprise visit to the press conference so he could see his real-life “Rocky” image in-person.

“In my business life imitates art. But in Chris’ case I think it’s the other way around,” said Stallone. “Watching Chris rebound from those two first-round knockdowns against Ruslan Provodnikov and out-box him the next 11 rounds to win the title was more than an upset. It was Rocky-esque. As for his fight against Manny Pacquiao on November 22, all I can say to you Chris is great movies deserve great sequels and I won’t be the least surprised to see you give us one in Macao.”

The greatest amateur boxer of his era and arguably of all time, two-time Ukrainian Olympic gold medalist Lomachenko (2-1, 1 KO), of Odessa, captured the vacant WBO featherweight title on June 21, winning a scintillating majority decision over the previously unbeaten Gary Russell Jr. It was Lomachenko’s third professional bout, tying him with Thailand’s Saensak Muangsurin for fewest fights to win a world title. Muangsurin won a junior welterweight title in 1975, also in his third professional fight. Russell, a former U.S. Olympian, was totally blitzed by Lomachenko, battered around the ring throughout the fight. From the outset of his professional career, Lomachenko made it known that he was ready for the best in his division. He made his professional debut in 2013 knocking out the WBO’s No. 7-rated featherweight contender Jose Luis Ramirez (24-2-2, 15 KOs) in the fourth round of a bout that was scheduled for 10. DeMarco successfully defended the title twice during his one-year reign — both by knockout — against Miguel Roman and John Molina. Since moving up in weight, he has won three straight fights, with two of those victories coming by way of knockout. Rios (31-2-1 (22 KOs), the former WBA lightweight champion, from Oxnard, Calif., is on the hunt for his second world title in as many weight divisions. Thirteen of his last 16 victories have come by way of knockout. One of boxing’s most exciting fighters, Rios is known for his all-action fan-friendly fighting style. His trainer, former International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior lightweight champion and 2012 Trainer of the Year Robert Garcia, calls it a “throwback” style with a warrior’s mentality that screams excitement. His victory by knockout ratio of 83% proves it is usually “mission accomplished” for him. Chaves will be making his Las Vegas debut on this card in only his second fight outside his native Argentina. Vargas (24-0, Nine KOs), of Las Vegas, Nevada, will be making his world champion debut a homecoming. He captured the WBA super lightweight title on April 19 in Las Vegas, winning a unanimous decision over undefeated defending champion Khabib Allakhverdiev. It was a close and competitive fight that proved Vardas’ grit as he bit down hard during the championship rounds to pull away with the victory and the world championship belt. Jesse Vargas christened a big fight weekend with a ten round unanimous decision over Aaron Martinez in a Welterweight bout at the Joint at The Hard Rock in Las Vegas.

Vargas was very solid throughout as he boxed well and the two engaged at times with Vargas getting the better of the action.

Vargas, 148 lbs of Las Vegas was making his debut under the Top Rank banner won by scores of 99-91, 98-92 ans 96-94 and is still perfect at 20-0. Martinez, 147 lbs of Los Angeles 18-2-1.

Jose Felix Jr. remained undefeated by scoring a ten round unanimous decision over Luis Cruz in a Lightweight bout.

Felix got off to a good start as he twice rocked Cruz in the first round. Felix was doing well until eating a straight left hand that sent him to the canvas. He shook that off well as mixed things up by boxing and coming forward and he controlled the ring over the last third of the fight and won by scores of 97-92, 96-94 and 99-94.

Felix Jr., 132 lbs of Los Mochis, MX is now 21-1-1. Cruz, 132 lbs of Las Piedras, PR is now 20-2.

Top Rank signed undefeated Welterweight Jesse Vargas on Wednesday.

Vargas was with Mayweather Promotions and appeared on Floyd Mayweather Pay Per View undercards before signing with famed manager Cameron Dunkin and going to Top Rank.

“I wanted to be with the Top Rank team, and here I am,” said Vargas, who became a promotional free agent recently when his agreement with Mayweather Promotions expired.

Dan Rafael of espn.com is reporting that Welterweight Alfonso Gomez was forced to withdraw from his May 5th bout with Jesse Vargas that was scheduled for the Floyd Mayweather- Miguel Cotto PPV undercard.

“Alfonso developed some serious back spasms (last week) and at first I thought he would just take a day off and rest. So we canceled sparring one day. But then we had to cancel a second day of sparring,” Saod Gomez manager Gary Gittelsohn. “And he never got much better.”

“But we gave Alfonso the weekend off to see if he’d feel any better,” Gittelsohn said. “The orthopedist said he didn’t think Alfonso was in any condition to do any running or strenuous activity. So that put him out of commission in critical moments of his training. So we canceled officially (Monday night) and I alerted Eric, who was disappointed as we all were. But these things happen. I’m so bummed.”

“I really felt like this was the perfect resurrection opportunity for Alfonso (coming off the loss to Alvarez) on the biggest showcase of the year,” Gittelsohn said. “We’re taking it day by day. I told Eric that I really want this fight for Alfonso and we hope it can be rescheduled down the line.”

“We were informed (Monday) night about this and we’re looking at some replacements,” Schaefer said. “I’m confident that Eric and Team Vargas will find a suitable replacement.”

Twenty-two-year-old Las Vegas resident Jessie Vargas (18-0, 9 KO’s) is one of boxing’s fastest rising stars with notable wins over Arturo Morua, Walter Estrada and former World Champion Vivian Harris. Last September on the Mayweather vs. Ortiz card, Vargas proved that he is one of boxing’s top contenders with an exciting 10-round decision victory over fellow contender Josesito Lopez. The out-of-this-world night of boxing will kick-off with a super lightweight bout featuring undefeated rising star Vargas in his HBO Pay-Per-View debut against hard-hitting Lopez, followed by the first of the night’s three world title fights as Mexican boxing legend Morales will face power punching Argentine Matthysse for the WBC Super Lightweight World Championship. The pay-per-view telecast will then go live to STAPLES Center in Los Angeles with Mexican boxing phenom Canelo Alvarez taking on Alfonso Gomez for the WBC Super Welterweight World Championship, followed by the main event welterweight championship mega-fight, Floyd Mayweather vs. Victor Ortiz, live from Las Vegas.

Fans in attendance at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas will be able to see the Alvarez vs. Gomez fight live, while those in attendance at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles will see Mayweather vs. Ortiz and Morales vs. Matthysse live. Following the showing of Mayweather vs. Ortiz at STAPLES Center, fans in attendance will see two special post-fight concerts performed by Los Tucanes de Tijuana and El Gran Silencio.

A three-division world champion and future Hall of Famer, Erik “El Terrible” Morales (51-7, 35 KO’s) ruled the boxing landscape for years, thrilling fans with his classic battles against Manny Pacquiao, Marco Antonio Barrera, Paulie Ayala, Wayne McCullough and In-Jin Chi. But when he returned from a nearly three year layoff in 2010, many wondered if the Tijuana native still had what it took to compete with the elite. The 28-year-old’s new role as the people’s champion is a good one for the crowd-pleasing standout, who has been delivering stellar performances from the time he turned professional in 2004. A former WBO Latino and WBO Intercontinental champion who counts “Vicious” Vivian Harris, DeMarcus “Chop Chop” Corley and Rogelio Castaneda Jr. among his vanquished foes, Matthysse, who has won 93 percent of his fights by way of knockout, is amped up and ready to trade blows with one of the sport’s modern greats, Erik Morales, on September 17.

Appearing in the opening bout in his pay-per-view debut, Vargas has the chance of a lifetime to make his name and talent known around the world against a stiff test in Josesito Lopez.
