Roach and Cruz Fight To Spirited Draw

Lamont Roach Jr. and Isaac Cruz fought to a 12-round majority draw in a tough fight for the WBC Interim Super Lightweight title at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.

In round three, Cruz landed a left hook that sent Roach sprawling and his left glove hit the canvas for a knockdown. +

In round seven, Cruz was deducted a point for hitting on the hip.

Cruz landed 1599 of 544 punches. Roach was 191 of 467.

Cruz, 138.6 lbs of Mexico City is 28-3-2. Roach of Washington, DC is 25-1-3.

“I knew he would stand his ground and go toe-to-toe, but I know how to box too,” said Cruz. “People don’t realize I can box.”

“Hats off to ‘Pitbull,’” said Roach. “He’s a great champion himself. I gave the fans a great fight. Back to the drawing board.”

“All I want is a fair shake,” said Roach. “I think I should have won a close victory. All I want is a fair shake. That’s it…I don’t know what I got to do. I don’t accept this at all. I clearly thought I won a close fight. I’m tired of this.”

“I did my job,” said Cruz. “I did my work. The ref was on his side. The judges too. The crowd in San Antonio saw I won this fight…Absolutely I’d do a rematch. With a different referee who is not on his side. The referee took this fight from me.”

Foster Decisions Fulton to Win Interim Lightweight Crown

Junior Lightweight titlist O’Shaquie Foster won a 12-round unanimous decision over featherweight World champion Stephen Fulton to win the WBC Interim Lightweight title.

Foster landed 191 of 600 punches. Fulton was 56 of 438.

Foster, 130 lbs of Houston, TX won by scores of 119-109,118-110 and 117 -111 and is now 24-3. Fulton, 132 lbs of Philadelphia was 2 pounds overweight for the 130 lb. bout is now 23-2.

“The game plan was to stay smart, stay sharp and get him out of there in the later rounds,” said Foster. “But he’s a damn good fighter and a veteran and he knew how to survive.”

“I want Shakur Stevenson,” said Foster. “I’ve been saying it for the longest. But it looks like he’s gonna fight at 140. So I have to choose either 130 or 135. I’ll see what happens and make a decision.”

Lara Decisions Gonzalez; Retains Middleweight Title

Erislandy Lara retained the WBA Middleweight title with a unanimous decision over late-replacement Johan Gonzalez.

Late in round 12, Lara landed three straight lefts that put Gonzalez on the canvas.

Lara.159.6 lbs of Houston won by scores of 120-108, 119-107 and 118-108 and is now 32-3-3. Gonzalez, 158.6 lbs of Las Vegas, took the fight after unified world champion Janibek Alimkhanuly failed a drug test is now 36-5.

“Gonzalez came to fight and he came to win,” said Lara. “We knew him a little bit, so we were ready for that and we made the adjustments we needed to make. He was a tough opponent who had a great opportunity in front of him, but we executed the game plan.”

“I spend all my time at the gym, so I had no problem being ready for this fight,” said Gonzalez. There are no excuses, but I did feel that Lara didn’t come to fight me the way he said he would.

“I felt a little uncomfortable in the first few rounds,” said Gonzalez. “The first knockdown was a punch and a slip. The second was a clean shot from Lara.”

“I showed the world that I’m 42-years-old and I’m still at the top of my game,” said Lara. “I can compete with the best. I don’t care at all about Janibek and I don’t wanna talk about him anymore.”

Ramos Decisions Mosley Jr. To Win Interim Middleweight Title

Jesus Ramos Jr. won a 12-round unanimous decision over Shane Mosley Jr. to win the WBC Interim Middleweight title.

“I was just being myself,” said Ramos. “I’m not gonna lie, it was tough. I actually had a right hand injury the last three weeks of camp. We didn’t spar for the last four weeks. So it was tough to get my timing. I would catch a rhythm and lose it. I faced a lot of obstacles but I told my family there was no way I was leaving San Antonio without a belt.”

“It was a hell of a fight,” said Mosley. “Thanks to Ramos and everyone who made this fight happen. He was the man tonight. I’ll be back and be better.”

“He never hurt me but he did surprise me,” said Ramos. “I never felt rocked, but I was surprised. He hit me with shots I wasn’t expecting. But I never felt like my legs weren’t there.”

“In those last few rounds I just kept remembering the Erickson Lubin fight,” said Ramos. “I kept getting flashbacks and I didn’t want the same thing to happen again. I kept pushing and pushing. I was in a dark place in that 10th round. I was tired, but I knew it would be worth it when the final bell rang.

“I want Carlos Adames. He’s the full champion. I don’t want the interim belt, I want the champion.”

Former world title challenger Frank Martin scored a devastating fourth round stoppage over former two-division world champion Rances Barthelemy in a 10-round junior welterweight bout.

In round two, Barthlelemy was cut above the right eye. In round four, Martin dropped Barthelemy with an overhand left. Moments later, Martin landed a perfect left to the jaw that put Barthelemy down and out at 2:56

I felt better than my two fights before this. It took me a little time to warm up and get going but, then I saw the shot we’ve been working on. That’s why I took my chance and landed it.

“I feel like I got slept on. I took one loss. It’s a new era. I’m here and I’m back. No disrespect to any of the main event fighters, but I’ll fight any of them next.”

Martin, 139.4 lbs of Indianapolis, IN is 19-1 with 13 knockouts. Barthelemy, 139.8 lbs of Las Vegas is 30-4-1.

Here is what the fighters had to say Wednesday from the Event Center at Pica Pica Plaza in San Antonio:

ISAAC “PITBULL” CRUZ

“It’s been five years since I was here in San Antonio and I’m so glad to be back. I’m here to put on a show. The love means so much to me and I’m gonna give that love right back.

“This is a very important fight and I’m prepared both physically and mentally to take this win home on Saturday.

“In 2020 we started off the pay-per-view in San Antonio and now I’m here headlining the pay-per-view. I have to make this fight another seminal moment in my career.

“I can promise you that this is gonna be an exciting fight, round after round. And I’m gonna get the win.”

LAMONT ROACH

“San Antonio is great and I’m glad to be back. I can’t wait to put on a show for everyone on Saturday night.

“It fuels me to carry the weight of my city on my back and come in here and perform like I’m supposed to.

“It feels good to be here reaping the benefits on my hard work. I’m gonna continue headlining and continue to be a big name in the sport.”

STEPHEN FULTON JR.

“The most important thing is to become the first three-division world champion from Philadelphia and stamp my legacy.

“To come from the city I come from, to accomplish something that none of the other great fighters have accomplished, it means everything to me.

“I love the energy of the fans here. I’ve fought in Texas multiple times and gotten multiple knockouts here.

“You’re gonna see a great performance, but if the knockout is there, I’m definitely gonna put on a hell of a show for everyone out there.”

ERISLANDY LARA

“I’m just focused on fighting, no matter who the opponent is. I’m not even gonna mention that guy’s name cause he doesn’t deserve it.

“I’m glad to be on this big card. It means a lot. We’re gonna go out there prepared and see what our opponent does and take it from there.”

JOHAN GONZALEZ

“I’m really excited about getting this opportunity. I’m here and I’m here to win. I’m here to shock the world.

“Before the fight against Jarrett Hurd I trained hard, stayed disciplined and got the win. This is no different. My fundamentals and my hunger to be the best will make the difference.

“I’m gonna put on a show for everyone. I’m not gonna let anyone down. That’s the most important thing to me.

“I’m still coming down to earth about the excitement I’m feeling to get this opportunity. On Saturday it will be a new feeling to become world champion.

JESUS RAMOS JR.

“I’m here to stop his momentum. We’re gonna give the fans a show. This is a big moment for me. I’m blessed to be here fighting in Texas for the first time and I’m gonna enjoy it.

“I’m gonna show everything on Saturday night. I’ve got a lot to my game and I’ve been working hard to show everyone.

“I love to fight regularly and put on a show. Hopefully I can keep it up next year and carry the momentum from Saturday night.

SHANE MOSLEY JR.

“This is what we fight for. Championships, to be on a great stage with great fans. I’m excited and I’m living the dream.

“A win would mean everything. It would make everyone who’s had my back proud. I’m fighting for them.

“I feel like Ramos is undefeated right now, so it’s a big opportunity for me to beat him decisively. We get to set the tone for this card and I can’t wait.”

WBA MIDDLEWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION ERISLANDY LARA TO DEFEND WORLD TITLE AGAINST HARD-HITTING CHALLENGER JOHAN GONZALEZ THIS SATURDAY NIGHT

SAN ANTONIO – December 2, 2025 – WBA Middleweight World Champion Erislandy “The American Dream” Lara will defend his world title against hard-hitting challenger Johan Gonzalez as part of a loaded four-fight PBC Pay-Per-View event available on Prime Video this Saturday, December 6 from Frost Bank Center in San Antonio.

Lara was originally scheduled to face unified champion Janibek Alimkhanuly, who was pulled from the fight after failing a VADA anti-doping test.

The pay-per-view is headlined by Mexican star Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz taking on reigning WBA Super Featherweight World Champion Lamont Roach for the Interim WBC Super Lightweight Title. The showdown between two-division world champion Stephen Fulton Jr. and WBC Super Featherweight World Champion O’Shaquie Foster will now serve as the co-main event.

The Lara vs. Gonzalez fight will follow the pay-per-view opener between rising Mexican star Jesus “Mono” Ramos Jr. and top contender Shane Mosley Jr. for the Interim WBC Middleweight Title beginning at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

Tickets for the live event are on sale now through Ticketmaster.com.

The event is promoted by TGB Promotions, in association with MP Promotions, ProBox Promotions and BXSTRS.

Lara (31-3-3, 19 KOs) has been dominant in his run at 160-pounds, showing off his ability to go toe-to-toe and end a fight with one punch, after establishing himself as one of boxing’s best technical fighters throughout the first part of his career. His last fight saw one of the best performances of his career as he stopped the durable former two-division world champion Danny Garcia in September 2024. He captured his WBA title with a first-round knockout of Thomas LaManna in May 2021, before KO’ing Gary O’Sullivan and Michael Zerafa. Prior to his middleweight exploits, Lara was the longest reigning 154-pound world champion before he lost a tough split-decision to Jarrett Hurd in a 2018 title unification match that earned “Fight of the Year” from the BWAA. Lara returned from that fight and battled former 154-pound world titleholder Brian Castaño to an exciting draw in another narrow fight that could have gone Lara’s way. He faced a slew of the top 154-pounders in the sport, including Canelo Álvarez, ahead of his middleweight debut.

A native of Valencia, Venezuela who now trains in Las Vegas, Gonzalez (36-4, 33 KOs) earned a career-best victory in his last outing as he used his power-punching prowess to best former unified champion Jarrett Hurd in March on Prime Video. Prior to that fight, Gonzalez had dropped an October 2024 showdown with rising star Yoenis Tellez. He had previously recovered from a May 2024 defeat against top contender Jesus Ramos by stopping Ivan Herrera in two rounds in August of last year. Gonzalez made his stateside debut in 2023, earning a pair of victories in the U.S. by first stopping Ricardo Ruben Villalba in August before defeating Guido Emmanuel Schramm in November. The 34-year-old won those fights following a close 2022 decision defeat to former world title challenger Magomed Kurbanov. A pro since 2017, Gonzalez won his first 22 bouts before dropping a split decision in 2018.

Tank Davis Fortunate To Get Draw Against Roach

BROOKLYN–Gervonta Davis is still undefeated, he is still champion, but that should be in question after he got a 12-round split draw with local rival Lamont Roach Jr. in front of a record crowd of 19,250 at Barclays Center.

Davis started off the first half of fight in decent fashion as he slowed the pace and was able to squeeze some early rounds under his belt by thin margins.

Roach, who is the WBA champion at Super Featherweight, looked and started to fight like the bigger man as he began to dictate the fight on his on terms by engaging Davis in a series of toe-to-toe exchanges for which he got the better of. In round nine, Roach seemed to land a punch that made Davis take a step back and take a knee. Referee Steve Willis started to and then stopped the count and ultimately ruled it a slip. Davis then leaned between the ropes and got toweled off by his corner with the consent in Willis. That action would seem to warrant a disqualification but Willis let the fight continue. The fight continued at a furious pace which favored the 16-1 underdog Roach, and many ringside observers and fans watching on television echoed their thoughts via social media that they thought that despite the antics in round nine, that Roach deserved to have his hands raised. That was not the case as one judge scored the fight for Davis 115-113, while two other judges scored it even at 114-114.

Davis landed 103 of 279 punches. Roach was 112 of 400.

GERVONTA DAVIS
“I think I pulled it out in the last three rounds for sure. I was catching him with some clean shots. I feel I was breaking him down as the rounds were going on, but he kept coming so I didn’t want to make mistakes and I kept it cautious. “I made it competitive to be honest. For sure, Lamont is a great fighter. He got the skills like I said before and the punching power. It was a lesson learned. Shout out to Lamont Roach and his whole team. Hopefully we can run it back in New York. Let’s do it again baby! “A little shit talking. That’s how it is when you are competitive. That’s how it is when you grew up in the sport together. Hopefully we can get a rematch. If not, all the beset to Lamont Roach and his whole team. “I just got my hair done two days ago and she put grease in my shit. So, the grease was coming into my face. It’s all cool. They love you, then they hate you. Then they love you again. You know what I mean?

LAMONT ROACH
This is every day for me. I ain’t gonna lie. I’m cut like this. I’ve been one of the ones and I came out here and showed it. I’m a little disappointed in the decision. I thought I pulled it out. That’s what two skilled fighters do, go in there and show off their craft. I definitely thought I won but we can run it back . Gervonta is a great fighter. I thank him for the opportunity to show all the people that were doubting me, all the fake boxing media and fans talking shit. That shit got flipped upside down. Even though I didn’t win tonight, I thought I did, but it’s a win for me in my book, but we are not satisfied with that. We need a real W. I told y’all in every interview single interview since the fight got announced. I put belt to ass. And you can see that’s what I do. I’m him. I’m one of the best fighters in the world and it showed tonight. It should have been a knockdown. If that was knockdown, I win the fight. He’s saying grease got in his eye, but if he takes a knee and the ref starts counting, it should be a knockdown. It is what it is. I’m not banking on that knockdown to win. I just thought I pulled it out.  I want to run it back for sure. I hope you all enjoyed yourself. Thanks for loving me and thanks for hating me. I’ll be back on the grand stage again, where I belong.

Gary Antuanne Russell Decisions Valenzuela to Win Super Lightweight Title

Gary Antuanne Russell won the WBA Super Lightweight Title with a 12-round unanimous decision over Jose Valenzuela.

Russell was dominant, especially with his straight left. In round eight, he had Valenzuela thinking as he landed a few straight lefts. In round nine, with Valenzuela bleeding from the nose, Russell landed a series of hard straight left hands that caromed off the face of Valenzuela. One buckled the champion. Round 11 saw Russell continue to batter Valenzuela with left hands. He hurt Valenzuela with a left to the body. Both southpaws landed bombs with the left hand in round 12 that culminated the entertaining fight.

Russell landed 252 of 957 punches. Valenzuela was 127 of 443.

Russell, 138.2 lbs of Capitol Heights, MD won by scores of 120-108 and 119-109 twice and is now 18-1. Valenzuela, 138.8 lbs of Los Mochis, MEX is 14-3.

GARY ANTUANNE RUSSELL“I want to thank God. This is a small steppingstone for me. I’m going for the rest of the belts. I love y’all for supporting us. Thank you for making this arena a grand arena. I did it for DC and my family. We are onto the next! “A rule of thumb in my profession is you have to follow instructions. My brother always told me, the difference between great and good is inches or centimeters and the ability to produce because that what it takes. “Valenzuela motivated me a hell of a lot. In this sport, you have to be dominant. You have to have a rough mentality, and he brought it out of me. I had the right dance partner in front of me and I’m glad he gave me the opportunity. I told him to keep that same energy because I’m bringing it in the ring. “My father would be proud of me. This is a steppingstone. This is a marathon. In a marathon, you come across the table with some water, but that’s just a pitstop so you can keep going to the next. I’m coming!”

JOSÉ VALENZUELA

“It just wasn’t my night tonight. His speed got to me a little bit, and I was slow on my feet. No excuses, I have to make adjustments”

“I have to go back to the drawing board now, come out stronger from this and bounce back like I know I can”

Puello Edges Martin; Retains Super Lightweight Title

Alberto Puello retained the WBC Super Lightweight world title with a 12-round split decision over Sandor Martin.

It was a close fight with neither fighter taking any sustained advantage. Puello landed a few more of the harder shots, and that is what may have propelled him to the victory that saw cards read 116-112, 115-113 and 115-113 for Martin.

Puello landed 150 of 526 punches. Martin was 162 of 441.

Puello, 139.2 lbs of San Juan de la Maguana, DR is now 24-0. Martin, 139.2 lbs of Barcelona, SPA is 42-4.

ALBERTO PUELLO

“I thought that the judges made the right call. I didn´t fight like I wanted to, but I fought like the champion I am.

“I had some issues coming out at the beginning of some rounds, but I adapted and ended up resolving each challenge that came my way.

“It’s time for me to go after unifying titles. I will take on any champion, anytime.”

SANDOR MARTÍN

“I felt like I won this fight, but I’m not the judges and they clearly saw it a different way. I don’t know what I’m lacking, but I’m not about to give up.

“I’ll talk to my team to figure out what’s next. I leave New Yirk with my head held high.”

Tellez Decisions Former Champion Williams; Wins Interim Super Welterweight Title

Yoenis Tellez won a 12-round unanimous decision over former unified world champion Julian Williams to win the WBA Interim Super Welterweight title.

In round three, Williams was cut under his right eye. In round five, the blood started coming from around his right eye.

Tellez was crisp with his right hand and Williams was unable to sustain consistent offense.

Tellez landed 180 of 502 punches. Williams was 108 of 399.

Tellez, 153.4 lbs od Santiago de Cuba, CUB won by scores of 119-109, 118-110 and 117-111 and is now 10-0. Williams, 152.2 lbs of Philadelphia is 29-5-1.

YOENIS TÉLLEZ
“This was a complete effort, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. I want to dedicate this to my team and all my loved ones, as well as the fans who came out here to support me”.

“J-Rock (Williams) is a great champion, and I gave it my all through 12 rounds against a quality opponent”
“What’s next? I don’t know yet. The only thing I’m sure of is that I’m ready to face any champion out there, and that the 154-pound division has a hungry Cuban fighter coming for more
JULIAN WILLIAMS

“I don’t know what was missing. I’ll have to look at the tape. In the end, I hope that the fans got to enjoy a great fight”

**JARRETT HURD VS. JOHAN GONZALEZ**

One of this era’s most acclaimed action fighters, “Swift” Jarrett Hurd will look for a key victory on his path toward another world title run when he takes on the hard-hitting veteran Johan Gonzalez in the 10-round middleweight matchup that headlines the streaming presentation on Prime Video.

The 34-year-old Hurd (25-3-1, 17 KOs) unified the WBA and IBF 154-pound titles in 2018, dropping longtime champion Erislandy Lara in the final round to win a close decision in a fight that was the consensus 2018 Fight of the Year. The Accokeek, Md., native would go on to lose the titles in one of 2019’s best fights, dropping a decision to Julian Williams. Hurd first became champion in February 2017 when he stopped former champion Tony Harrison in the ninth round, before defending the title against another former champion in Austin Trout. Hurd most recently fought former unified champion Jeison Rosario to a draw last August and will enter the ring at Barclays Center for the fourth time as a pro, having scored three previous victories at the venue.

“I’ve been working hard as ever to end my career the right way, back on top where I belong,” said Hurd. “Everyone knows what I bring to the ring, so make sure you tune in March 1 or come out to Barclays Center, because I’m going in there to make a statement.”

A native of Valencia, Venezuela who now trains in Las Vegas, Gonzalez (34-4, 33 KOs) will look to bounce back after most recently dropping an October showdown with rising star Yoenis Tellez on Prime Video. He had previously recovered from a May 2024 defeat against top super welterweight contender Jesus Ramos by stopping Ivan Herrera in two rounds in August of last year. Gonzalez made his stateside debut in 2023, earning a pair of victories in the U.S. by first stopping Ricardo Ruben Villalba in August before defeating Guido Emmanuel Schramm in November. The 33-year-old won those fights following a close 2022 decision defeat to former world title challenger Magomed Kurbanov. A pro since 2017, Gonzalez won his first 22 bouts before dropping a split decision in 2018.

“I’m very thankful to my team for this opportunity on March 1,” said Gonzalez. “I’m not focusing on my opponent, just on being the best Johan Gonzalez. I have to demonstrate my skills. Nothing else matters.”

**JONATHAN LOPEZ VS. ALEX DILMAGHANI**

Trained by the renowned Eddy Reynoso, the 21-year-old Jonathan “La Roca” Lopez has shown the skills to become a future world champion and looks to take down another tough test in the experienced U.K. contender Alex Dilmaghani as they tussle in a 10-round super featherweight clash.

Residing in Orlando, Florida, Lopez (17-0, 12 KOs) turned pro in 2020 following an impressive amateur career and will enter this fight having stopped 10 of his last 12 opponents. Lopez most recently dominated contender Richard Medina last September on his way to earning a unanimous decision that he highlighted by scoring a final round knockdown. He earned a then career-best victory in June 2023 and went 10 rounds for the first time as he bested former title challenger Eduardo Baez via a wide unanimous decision leading into his three-victory 2024 campaign.

“I’m super excited to be back in the ring,” said Lopez. “And I’m very grateful to everyone who made this possible. This is a perfect opportunity for me to showcase my talent and skills on a fight of this magnitude. I have to show everyone that my time is now.”

A native of Manchester, United Kingdom, Dilmaghani (20-3-1, 7 KOs) will fight stateside for the second time as a pro on March 1, after most recently dropping a June 2024 battle to Rene Tellez Giron. The 33-year-old has competed professionally since 2009, always taking on tough competition while fighting in Mexico, Canada, France and Denmark, in addition to his native U.K. He also owns a majority draw against former world title challenger Francisco Fonseca in November 2019 and has won two of his last three bouts.

“I can’t wait to step into the ring on March 1 and show everyone the best version of myself,” said Dilmaghani. “If people are sleeping on me, they’re going to be surprised, because I’m training hard to make sure I steal the show when that bell rings. I’m definitely coming to make the most of this opportunity.”

ORLANDO, FL (November 7, 2024) – Rising Cuban star Yoenis “El Bandolero” Tellez (9-0, 7 KOs) continues his rapid ascent in the super welterweight division after a commanding victory over Johan Gonzalez (35-4, 34 KOs) that took place, October 19, 2024, at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida. With the win, Tellez successfully defended his WBA Continental Latino Welterweight title and further solidified his position in the world rankings, now sitting at #2 in the WBA. Co-promoted by Boxlab Promotions and Warriors Boxing, Tellez is on the fast track to a world title shot, with plans in place for a potential WBA title eliminator in early 2025.

Tellez’s dominant win over the hard-punching Gonzalez, who had 34 knockouts in 35 victories, showed off his skill, calmness under pressure, and power. This victory brings Tellez one step closer to his dream of becoming a world champion—something he’s been working toward since his standout days as an amateur boxer in Cuba. He is currently rated WBA #2 and looks to climb up the rankings with his latest victory.

“This win was a big step for me,” said Tellez. “Beating a tough fighter like Gonzalez showed that I belong among the top guys in the division. It gave me the chance to prove that I’m ready for even bigger challenges. Being ranked #2 by the WBA is a huge honor, but I’m not stopping here. I’m working hard every day to reach that world title shot. I know that I can compete with anyone in the division, and I’m ready for whoever is next.”

“Yoenis has been exceptional since turning pro, and his latest victory showed that he’s ready for the next level,” said Amaury Piedra, President of Boxlab Promotions. “We are working closely with Warriors Boxing and the WBA to secure a title eliminator for early 2025. He has the skill set, the determination, and the right team behind him. A shot at a world title is just around the corner, and we believe he’ll be ready to seize the opportunity.”

“My amateur background has been key to my success as a pro,” concluded Tellez. “I had over 100 fights in Cuba, facing some of the best talent in the world. That experience gave me the skills and confidence I need to compete at this level. Now, I’m focused on becoming a world champion, and I believe I’m closer than ever.”

As Tellez continues his journey towards a world title, his fans eagerly anticipate what lies ahead for this exciting Cuban prospect. With his unbeaten record, rising status in the rankings, and the backing of Warriors Boxing and Boxlab Promotions, Yoenis Tellez is quickly emerging as a name to watch in the super welterweight division.

Murtazaliev Stops Tszyu in 3; Retains Jr. Middleweight Title

Bakhram Murtazaliev dropped former world champion four-times in less than three rounds and scored a third round stoppage to retain the IBF Jr. Middleweight title at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida.

Halfway through the opening round, Tszyu was cut on the top of his head. In round two, Murtazaliev landed a left hook that dropped Tszyu. A moment later, it was another left hook to the jaw that put Tszyu down again. Murtazaliev landed three more crushing left hooks and a right to the side of the head that put Tszyu down for a third time in the round. Halfway through round three, Murtazaliev landed another perfect left hook that dropped Tszyu hard to the canvas. Tszyu was allowed to continue, but not for long as he landed a booming right to the jaw that rocked Tszyu badly and the corner mercifully threw in towel, saving Tszyu any more damage at

Murtazaliev, 152.8 lbs of Glendale, CA is 23-0 with 17 knockouts. Tszyu, 153.4 lbs of Sydney, AUS is 24-2.

“We just worked on these combinations all the time and when the fight came, it was automatic,” said Murtazaliev. “We worked for 10 weeks on those punches that hurt him. We created opportunities and we believed that we could win this fight.”

“When I landed that first big shot, I knew how hard it was,” said Murtazaliev. “Tszyu is a real warrior and I hope one day we can work together and spar and help each other to grow.”

“Every time I step into the ring I leave it all in there,” said Tszyu. “Things didn’t go to plan and the better man won tonight. No excuses. After the first shot, things started not going according to plan. That’s part of boxing, you get hit and reactions get slower. Bakhram is the man at 154.”

Yoenis Tellez Stops Johan Gonzalez in 7

Yoenis Tellez remained undefeated with a seventh round stoppage over Johan Gonzalez in a 10-round super welterweight fight.

In round two, Tellez started to develop some redness around his left eye.

In round six, Tellez landed a perfect straight to the jaw that buckled and dropped Gonzalez. In round seven, Tellez landed a left hook to the head that sent Gonzalez to the floor. Tellez then landed a big right hand that hurt and dropped Gonzalez and the fight was stopped at 1:57.

Tellez, 153.8 lbs of Stafford, TX is 9-0 with seven knockouts. Gonzalez, 153 lbs of Las Vegas is 35-4.

“We were facing a very experienced fighter with a great trainer in Ismael Salas, so I knew it would not be easy,” said Tellez. “I was just following the instructions of my corner so that I could get the win.”

“The most important weapon I have is the will to become world champion and the motivation to make my country proud,” said Tellez. “Ever since I left my country, I’ve wanted to win for them.”

“I wasn’t properly following what my corner told me to do and that’s what cost me the fight,” said Gonzalez. “Tellez is a good fighter and a good prospect. I think I could have made the fight better for myself if I had been more disciplined.”

“I’m here to fight and let my team take care of getting me big opportunities and great opponents,” said Tellez. “I’m willing to fight anybody.”

Saavedra and Tapia Battle to a Draw

Endry Saavedra and Cesar Mateo Tapia battled to a 10-round majority draw in a middleweight slugfest.

In round three, Saavedra landed a hard combination highlighted by some hard hooks that put Tapia down on the ropes. Tapia rose with a cut under his right eye. Saavedra then landed another flurry for a second knockdown from a right to the body. In round five that right eye of Tapia began to swell. Later in the round, Saavedra walked right into a booming counter right to the head that sent him to the canvas.

In round six, Saavedra began to swell under his right eye. In round nine, Saavedra landed a fuselage of body shots that wilted Tapia to a knee.

Tapia landed 128 of 387 punches. Saavedra was 208 of 558.

Tapia, 160 lbs of New South Wales, AUS won a scorecard by a 94-92 tally, while two cards were even at 93-93. Tapia is 17-0-1. Saavedra, 159.8 lbs of Tijuana, MEX is 16-1-1.

“I thought I could have gotten him out of there because I’m a Mexican warrior,” said Saavedra. “I did everything I could and left everything in the ring. I was surprised he kept getting up, especially after the second knockdown. But he’s a Mexican and he wasn’t going to go out easily.”

“He was getting me with some short shots on the inside and taking my legs and I just had to keep working him and stay in the fight,” said Tapia.

“I was prepared for 10 hard rounds,” said Tapia. “I feel like it could have gone either way. It was a tough fight. I knew he was going to bring the fight and I just tried to take advantage when I had openings. I’m glad we could give the fans a great fight.”

“Everyone saw the fight and I know the fans here believed that I won,” said Saavedra. “I can only do my job. The judges had to do theirs.

YOENIS TELLEZ TRAINING CAMP QUOTES

STAFFORD, TX. – October 11, 2024 – Undefeated Cuban prospect Yoenis Tellez will step into the ring for the fifth time at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida as he looks to give his fans another spectacular performance when he faces the hard-hitting Johan Gonzalez in the co-main event of PBC Championship Boxing on Prime Video action on Saturday, October 19.

“Ever since my first fight at Caribe, they’ve made me feel right at home,” said Tellez. “I consider Orlando my second home and I’m excited to fight there once again. Make sure you get your tickets, because it’s gonna be a blast on October 19.”

The 24-year-old Tellez (8-0, 6 KOs) burst onto the scene in July 2023, as he stepped in as a late replacement opponent to face veteran contender Sergio Garcia on the Errol Spence Jr. vs. Terence Crawford pay-per-view undercard. Knowing he needed a memorable performance on a big stage, Tellez delivered in style by becoming the first person to stop Garcia when he ended the contest in round three.

“That was definitely the biggest moment of my career and I knew it going into the fight,” said Tellez. “Even though I was stepping in on short notice, I knew I had to take full advantage of the opportunity. I was facing an experienced fighter, so I knew it was going to be tough. It was only my fifth fight, but I was prepared for anything that came my way.”

Since the Garcia fight, Tellez has added two victories to his ledger, fighting into the 10th round in each of them. Last December he capped his 2023 campaign with a 10th-round KO of Livan Navarro, before most recently winning a unanimous decision over the previously unbeaten Joseph Jackson in April.

“I was able to show in my last two fights that I have the experience to fight deep into the later rounds,” said Tellez. “You can’t knock everyone out. Every round in there makes you better and I’ve been able to learn a lot my last two times in the ring.”

Originally from Santiago de Cuba, Cuba, Tellez’s corner is led by famed trainer Ronnie Shields, with Tellez holding training camp at Shields’ gym in Stafford, Texas. In addition to what he’s added to Tellez’s game in the ring, Shields has been just as important l to Tellez’s growth outside of the ring.

“Ronnie has been vital for me as far as adapting to life in the U.S. and making the transition to fighting professionally at the highest level,” said Tellez. “He’s taught me a lot about the business side of boxing and he’s taught me to be accountable and take responsibility for what I do both inside and outside of the ring.

“We’ve had a great training camp for this fight. The preparation is the same as it always is. We have a routine that suits me. That consistency has allowed me to prepare very well.”

Tellez will take on another experienced opponent on October 19 as he steps in against the heavy-handed Johan Gonzalez (35-3, 34 KOs). For Tellez, he believes the mindset he’s set forth in training camp will translate into success on fight night.

“I’m coming in there with a 100% positive mindset and determined to win,” said Tellez. “I don’t know how the fight will go, that remains to be seen. I just have to go out there and execute. I’ve seen some videos of Gonzalez and he’s definitely a good fighter. We’re prepared for him to bring his best.”

Still early in his career, Tellez already has his eyes set on reaching championship gold in the star-studded super welterweight division. With a win on October 19, he’ll move one step closer to the opportunities he seeks.

“I want to keep growing and maturing as a fighter and I know that whatever opportunities come to me, I’m going to go after them,” said Tellez. “I’m eager to fight for a championship and I’m ready to fight absolutely anybody. I trust my team to take care of putting those opponents in front of me. I’m ready to go through anyone who’s standing in my way.”

Tickets for the live event are on sale now and are available through Ticketmaster. The event is promoted by TGB Promotions. The main event is promoted in association with No Limit Boxing and Main Events.

Prime Video’s exclusive presentation of the PBC Championship Boxing tripleheader on October 19 will feature a commentator team that includes Brian Custer on blow-by-blow; Keith Thurman and Brian Campbell with ringside analysis; and Jordan Plant and Claudia Trejos serving as ringside reporters.

**YOENIS TELLEZ VS. JOHAN GONZALEZ**

The latest young standout from boxing-rich Cuba, Yoenis Téllez will return to fight at the friendly confines of the Caribe Royale for the fifth time in his young career, as he looks to impress against the hard-hitting Johan González in a 10-round super welterweight showdown.

Trained by the legendary Ronnie Shields in Stafford, Texas, the 24-year-old Téllez (8-0, 6 KOs) stepped in on short notice in July of last year to dominate veteran contender Sergio Garcia and earn a third-round TKO on the Errol Spence Jr. vs. Terence Crawford undercard. Originally from Santiago de Cuba, Cuba, Téllez has continued to rise in two subsequent bouts, both of which took place at Caribe Royale in Orlando. In December 2023 he closed the show in style with a 10th-round TKO of Livan Navarro, and most recently he earned a unanimous decision over the previously unbeaten Joseph Jackson in April of this year.

“Fighting an experienced fighter like Johan González is a great opportunity to show the world what I’m made of,” said Téllez. “He’s fought at the elite level and I’m expecting a tough fight. I’m going to leave everything in the ring. On October 19 I’m going to be at my best to put on a great performance and give all the fans tuning in a great night of boxing. The Caribe Royale will be on fire.”

A native of Valencia, Venezuela who now trains in Las Vegas, González (34-3, 33 KOs) bounced back from a May defeat against top super welterweight contender Jesus Ramos by stopping Ivan Herrera in two rounds in August. González made his stateside debut in 2023 as he earned a pair of victories in the U.S., first stopping Ricardo Villalba in August before defeating Guido Schramm in November. The 33-year-old won those fights to bounce back from a close 2022 decision defeat to former world title challenger Magomed Kurbanov. A pro since 2017, González won his first 22 bouts before dropping a split decision in 2018.

“This fight is everything for me, it’s a must-win,” said González. “I’m working hard every day to make sure I leave with my hand raised. My only focus right now is doing everything possible to keep pushing my career forward. I have one mission, victory on October 19.”

**MATEO TAPIA VS. ENDRY SAAVEDRA**

A longtime friend and sparring partner of Tim Tszyu, Mateo Tapia will compete stateside in the U.S. for the second time as he takes on Endry Saavedra, who’s last seven victories have come by knockout. Tapia and Saavedra will duel in a 10-round middleweight clash that opens the live streaming presentation on October 19.

The 26-year-old Tapia (17-0, 10 KOs) was born in Tijuana, Mexico and has spent much of his career fighting out of Australia, where he put in over 500 rounds of sparring against Tszyu. Now training out of St. Petersburg, Florida, Tapia hopes to push himself closer to a world title with a victory over Saavedra. Tapia made his U.S. debut in October 2023 with a stoppage victory over Eric Robles, and followed that up with a 10-round unanimous decision over Keiber Gonzalez in Australia in April.

“This fight is a huge opportunity for me and I’m here to take it with both hands,” said Tapia. “I’m thrilled to be fighting on Tim Tszyu’s card and I’m thankful to my team for making this happen. It’s been a long camp and I’ll definitely be ready when that bell rings on October 19. I’m looking forward to displaying my skills and proudly representing both Australia and Mexico on the world stage. Bring it on.”

Originally from Venezuela and now fighting out of Tijuana, Mexico, Saavedra (16-1, 13 KOs) enters this fight having knocked out three straight opponents since the only defeat of his career, an October 2022 decision against Etoundi Michel William. The 33-year-old turned pro in 2018 and won his first 13 bouts after an extensive amateur career that saw him fight around the world against a bevy of future pro contenders. Saavedra most recently traveled to Australia in March and stopped Isaac Hardman on his home turf in round eight of a fight he trailed on two of three scorecards.

“I can’t wait to take advantage of what’s in front of me on October 19,” said Saavedra. “I plan on showing the world why I belong at the top of the middleweight division. I’m facing a tough Australian fighter who represents Mexico, so I’m expecting a war, just like I bring to every fight. You won’t want to miss this one.”

The live streaming presentation begins at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT and also features rising contender Vito Mielnicki Jr. battling L.A.’s Ronald Cruz in a 10-round fight kicking off the stream.

These bouts will lead into a four-fight PBC Pay-Per-View on Prime Video beginning at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT as Canelo Promotions presents a Cinco de Mayo weekend blockbuster featuring pound-for-pound great Canelo Álvarez putting his undisputed super middleweight world title on the line against unbeaten all-action former world champion Jaime Munguía in the main event.

In addition to the PPV being available for purchase on Prime Video, regardless of Prime membership, fans will also be able to purchase the PPV via DAZN.com. On top of those options, fans will also be able to continue to access the telecast through traditional cable and satellite outlets, including PPV.com

Tickets for the live event are on sale now at AXS.com. The event is promoted by Canelo Promotions and TGB Promotions, in association with Golden Boy Promotions and Zanfer Boxing Promotions.

Here is what Ramos had to say ahead of Saturday’s matchup:

On his training camp for Gonzalez:

“I feel really good. I feel strong. We made the necessary adjustments to improve from my last fight. I feel strong and just excited to be back. We are handling things differently this camp and implementing new elements into my game that we weren’t doing last camp. We are still working hard, but also preparing mentally and adding strategic pieces and I’m just excited to put it all together on fight night.”

On bouncing back from a close decision loss to Erickson Lubin in his last fight:

“I don’t think it was my best night, but I still felt like I did enough to pull it off. Obviously, it wasn’t my best performance and I’m aware of that, but I felt like it was enough to win. I was the one in control the whole fight, pushing him back, landing more punches. Some of the rounds that I felt I did the most effective work; they gave it to him. I was disappointed obviously, but I’m going to show in this fight that it was just a bump in the road. The journey continues and I’m not going to stop until I’m a world champion.”

On earning a Lubin rematch:

“Yes, I would like a rematch with Lubin. Against Gonzalez, I have to show that there’s levels to this sport, and he’s not at my level. I have to prove myself and show that I don’t need a tune up fight or an easier fight. I just need to just keep progressing. I shouldn’t be taking steps back; I should keep moving forward.”

On his May 4 opponent Johan Gonzalez:

“I know he hits hard. He has 33 knockouts in his 34 wins, so he has some pop. I know he’s going to come forward and he’s going to try to pressure me. I expect that. I expect a fun fight while it lasts. We both have power, so don’t expect it to go the distance.”

On fighting on a blockbuster Cinco de Mayo weekend event:

“I’m really motivated to be fighting on Cinco de Mayo weekend and really blessed to be back on a Canelo undercard. I’m just excited. I feel like the same people that were at my last fight on the Canelo-Charlo undercard are going to be there and watching on May 4. I have to demonstrate that my last performance wasn’t who I am. It wasn’t my best performance and I’m kind of in debt with them in that aspect.”

**JESUS RAMOS VS. JOHAN GONZALEZ**

Returning to the ring after a close and debated decision defeat in his last fight, Jesus “Mono” Ramos will look to regain his momentum toward a world title opportunity when he faces the streaking Venezuelan contender Johan Gonzalez in a 10-round super welterweight clash.

The 23-year-old Ramos (20-1, 16 KOs) was on the wrong end of a decision last September against top super welterweight contender Erickson Lubin that also came on the undercard of a Canelo Álvarez headlined event. A native of Casa Grande, Ariz., Ramos had worked his way up the rankings by defeating a slew of contenders including Brian Mendoza, Javier Molina, Vladimir Hernandez and an emphatic stoppage of then unbeaten Joey Spencer. Trained by his father Jesus Sr. and the nephew of veteran contender Abel, Ramos entered the Lubin fighting having stopped seven of his last 10 opponents.

“I’m excited to be back in the ring again,” said Ramos. “My team and I have been training hard to prepare for this fight. I have a tough opponent in Johan Gonzalez who’s hungry for a big opportunity, but I’m hungry too. I want to prove that I belong at the top of the division and I can’t wait to put on a great performance on May 4.”

A native of Valencia, Venezuela who now trains in Las Vegas, Gonzalez (34-2, 33 KOs) made his stateside debut in 2023 as he earned a pair of victories in the U.S., first stopping Ricardo Ruben Villalba in August before defeating Guido Emmanuel Schramm in November. The 33-year-old won those fights to bounce back from a close 2022 decision defeat to world title challenger Magomed Kurbanov. A pro since 2017, Gonzalez won his first 22 bouts before dropping a split decision in 2018.

“I’m extremely motivated to be facing an opponent like Jesus Ramos who has experience fighting on big cards like this,” said Gonzalez. “This is my chance to show my skills and announce myself on the biggest stage. I appreciate everyone who helped make this fight happen and I can’t wait to show what I can do on May 4.”

**VITO MIELNICKI JR. VS. RONALD CRUZ**

Riding a nine-fight winning streak, rising super welterweight and WBA No. 4 ranked contender Vito Mielnicki Jr. will hope to build off a four-victory 2023 when he makes his 2024 debut against durable veteran Ronald Cruz in a 10-round super welterweight showdown.

Representing Roseland, N.J., Mielnicki (16-1, 11 KOs) has shown improved power in recent outings, stopping four-straight opponents and seven of his last nine. Most recently, Mielnicki scored first-round knockouts in back-to-back fights, blasting out Alexis Salazar in November and Salim Larbi in December. The 21-year-old first turned heads during his exceptional amateur career where he compiled a 147-22 record and was named the Most Outstanding Boxer of the 2011 Junior National Golden Gloves, amongst many accolades before turning pro.

“I’m having a great training camp down in Houston and my team and I are prepared for the best version of Ronald Cruz on May 4,” said Mielnicki. “I’m excited and blessed to be fighting on Prime Video for the first time. I want to thank my whole team for continuing to put me on the biggest stages.”

A native of Los Angeles, Cruz (19-3-1, 12 KOs) won 18 of his first 19 pro fights after turning pro in 2014 and has proven a sturdy challenge throughout his career. The 33-year-old fought Damian Sosa to a draw in August 2022 before going the distance with unbeaten prospect Xander Zayas in a losing effort in June 2023. Most recently Cruz scored a unanimous decision victory over Jose Aguirre in December 2023.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING, & MAIN EVENTS, RETURNS TO ATLANTIC CITY

ATLANTIC CITY, March 21, 2024. —  South Jersey’s own Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna will fight for the World Boxing Association (WBA) Gold Middleweight World Title against Venezuelan Johan “Chelo Manotas” Gonzalez in the main event in a twelve-round bout on Saturday, June 8 at Bally’s Atlantic City.

This World Championship Boxing Event is being promoted by Main Events in association with LaManna’s Rising Star Promotions. Ticket info will be released soon.

“I am definitely excited to fight in another world title fight I was down and out after the first try but now I’m back in the mix fighting for the WBA Gold against a very experienced opponent from Venezuela,” said LaManna. “Gonzalez rated at 154 and despite coming up to 160, he’s explosive and powerful and has a master trainer in Ismael Salas and this would be my first win against him. I made my pro debut at Bally’s and now I’m going to be fighting for a world title there and being able to accomplish both that would be amazing. Atlantic City is my backyard, so it is going to be fire that night, and on that night and I don’t think there will be anyone that can beat me.

“Working with Main Events is a real honor,” continued LaManna. “We’ve been talking about a fight like this for months, almost a year. Thankfully Main Events can see my mission and they can see my drive between fighting and promoting and I’m glad they got behind mean they are taking a chance with me and I’m looking forward to continuing with them in the future.”

“I admire Thomas for the way he has taken charge of his career and become a successful promoter in his own right,” said Kathy Duva. “Now that he has an opportunity to challenge for the world title, Main Events is happy to step in and help so LaManna can focus exclusively on preparing for the biggest fight of his career. Main Events has a long history promoting boxing in Atlantic City. And a great deal of those fights were promoted in association with Bally’s. We are looking forward to a great promotion.”

LaManna quote:

“The dream for any boxer is to become a champion, so I am very happy for this opportunity,” said Johan. “LaManna has a lot experience and very well-known boxer in the business and that means I need to work harder to get the win. This is boxing and nothing is easy in this sport.  Atlantic City is like his home, a knockout could come, but for sure we will have a great camp, training to get the W, by decision or by KO. Atlantic City is place with good boxing history, now is time to write my own.”

“Bally’s Atlantic City is thrilled for the return of boxing. We look forward to hosting this thrilling event and providing memorable experiences for boxing enthusiasts and our guests,” said Michael Monty, General Manager at Bally’s Atlantic City.
