Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.’s arrest leaves lots of questions

By Norm Frauenheim

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.’s arrest on charges of being in the United States illegally just days after a loss to Jake Paul in an exhibition devoid of punches, energy and drama leaves questions about why he was allowed to fight despite an active warrant for his arrest in Mexico for alleged involvement with organized crime.

According to multiple reports, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services alerted enforcement agencies about Chavez last year, saying he “is an egregious public safety threat.’’

Yet, he had reportedly been in the U.S. since January 4, training and licensed by the California Athletic Commission to fight Paul, a popular social-media influencer who beat him by unanimous decision in a state-sanctioned cruiserweight fight last Saturday in Anaheim

ICE agents arrested him Wednesday, while he was riding a scooter in front of his residence in Studio City. Chavez, whose tourist visa reportedly expired in February 2024, is due to appear in court on Monday. U.S. authorities are seeking to deport him, also according to multiple reports.

As of Thursday, there was no public statement from Paul about the arrest of Chavez, who has been linked to the Sinaloa cartel by law enforcement.

Both Chavez and Paul appeared at promotional events, including news conferences and the weigh-in before the pay-per-view bout streamed live by DAZN. Paul’s company, MVP, was among the promoters.

Chavez, 39, is the son of Mexico’s most enduring boxing legend, Julio Cesar Chavez, El Gran Campeaon Mexicano —The Great Mexican Champion. There are few gyms in Mexico and the U.S. that don’t include a framed photo or rendering of the senior Chavez hanging from one of the battered walls.

Dad was a feared champion in multiple divisions. His son is a former middleweight champion. But Junior’s boxing history is problematic, despite the powerful name, still a drawing card.

Including the loss to Paul, he’s 3-4 over his last seven fights, including a wild sequence of events that included a loss to Danny Jacobs December 20, 2020 at the Suns home arena in downtown Phoenix.

First, Chavez had to get an injunction on a ruling against him in Nevada, which had suspended him for not undergoing all of a mandated medical exam. The injunction allowed him to get licensed in Arizona.

On the morning of the weigh-in, however, he missed weight, coming in 4.7 pounds heavier than the contracted 168. A compromise was reached. Jacobs, a super-middleweight, agreed to fight him at a catch weight, 173.

The fight itself, however, sparked a near riot among the crowd of about 10,000 fans, who threw beer, cups, a chair or three and other debris into the ring when Chavez quit on the stool, losing a fifth-round TKO.

Chavez Jr. could not continue, he said, because of a broken nose and a fractured hand. A couple of days later, Chavez posted a video of himself in a hospital bed with his father at his side.

That video was followed by another one of him celebrating at a Christmas party. The reaction on social media was predictable. There was skepticism. And more anger.

Yet, Chavez fought six more times, including the loss to Paul in an exhibition the saw him backing away and throwing few punches throughout a dreary first eight rounds.

A few days later, he’s facing what looks to be the biggest fight of his life.

Benavidez agrees to first title defense

In a bit of a surprise, Turki Alalshikh, Prince and promoter, announced Thursday that David Benavidez will defend his World Boxing Council light-heavyweight belt for the fist time against UK veteran Anthony Yarde, sometime in November in Riyadh.

It was thought that the unbeaten Benavidez, a Phoenix-born fighter, would face Callum Smith, instead. Smith said just a few days ago that he believed there had been progress in talks with Benavidez, who was awarded the WBC belt when Dmitrii Bivol relinquished it.

It’s believed that the Benavidez-Yarde winner could be in line for a shot at the unified 175-title pound, which is expected to be up for grabs in a projected third Bivol-Artur Beterbiev fight.

Beterbiev won the fist one; Bivol won the rematch. Alalshikh says he wants to stage the third fight sometime later this year. But there’s not been much news about talks for Bivol-Beterbiev 3. If there’s a deal and it happens in November, Benavidez-Yarde could land on the card as the co-main.

Benavidez has been turning himself into a Las Vegas attraction. His last four fights have been in Vegas. A fight in Riyadh would be his first outside of the US since a string of eight fights in Mexico early in his career.

Jake Paul Decisions Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Jake Paul had to work hard in the final rounds, but he won a 10-round unanimous decision over former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in a cruiserweight fight at The Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

The fight was fought at a slow place early as Paul was taking what Chavez was giving him, and Chavez was doing absolutely nothing as he landed zero punches in round one. Paul was landing some body punches and some left hook. Paul continued to ack up rounds and took a commanding lead.

Paul landed 140 of 482 punches. Chavez was 61 of 154.

Chavez made brief stands in rounds nine and 10. Paul was never in any serious trouble and won by scores of 99-91, 98-92 and 97-93.

Paul, 199.4 lbs of Dorado, PR is now 12-1. Chavez, 198.4 lbs of Sinaloa, MEX is 54-7-1.

Jake Paul Quotes

On the future of his boxing career

“I’m used to these guys not being good promoters. At the end of the day, I’m going to fight all of these guys. I feel like tonight was just the first day of my boxing career, and I just got warmed up, and this is just chapter two moving forward.”

On how much different a fighter he is now compared to when he fought Tommy Fury

“I don’t even think I was a fighter then. That was like two and a half years into the sport, and I didn’t know what I was doing. I didn’t have the proper team around me. I didn’t have conditioning. My lifestyle outside of the ring was still that of a YouTuber, celebrity, actor, whatever I was at that point in time. So I wasn’t fully focused on boxing. Like I said, chapter one is done tonight, and now we’re moving into chapter two. I’m just getting warmed up in the sport. People hold the Tommy Fury thing against me, but what now? I just beat a former world champion, and I’m coming to avenge that loss as well with Tommy.”

On moving up to heavyweight for a potential fight against Anthony Joshua

“I’m definitely not a heavyweight, but I’m still going to take the challenge. You look at Deontay Wilder, he was beating these guys weighing 215 lbs. Granted, he’s 6’6 or something, but anything is possible. I like the challenge. That’s the criticism, people will say, ‘Fight someone in their prime who’s a beast’.” I think people just really want to see me lose. That’s really what the message is behind it all. Anthony Joshua is an insane fight, but I want that challenge. We’ve been DM’ing back and forth. He wants to make it happen. He called me up and it’s looking very likely for next year.”

On what it was like going toe-to-toe with Chavez over the final round

“It was great. I love that he brought a good fight in the end. I think the fans got a good fight to see him come out and throw some punches on me, and it makes me better. It brings the best out of me. I started catching his shots, shooting back, and I had to elevate tonight and rise to a different level. I’m glad that the fans got to see me get punched in the face a little bit but at the end of the day, it’s good. I love a good fight.”

On if Canelo Alvarez is out of the picture for his future plans

“No, he’s not out of the picture. I think once I get the belts, I’m going to want to fight for the cruiserweight championship and add that belt to my resume. I think he would become a four or five-weight champion. I think that would be what interests him, and that’s the plan.”

Gilberto Ramirez Decisions Dorticos To Retain Cruiserweight Titles

Gilberto Ramirez defended the WBA/WBO Cruiserweight title with a 12-round unanimous decision over Yuniel Dortocs

In round 10, Dorticos was docked a point for low blows.

Ramirez landed 224 of 620 punches. Dorticos was 290 of 616.

Ramirez, 199.8 lbs of Sinaloa, MEX won by scores of 117-110 and 115-112 twice and is now 48-1.

Zurdo Ramirez Quotes

On Jake Paul’s performance vs. Chavez Jr.

“Yeah, I give the credit to what he did in the fight. Chavez Jr. was a world-class world champion. He did great.”

On if Jake’s performance legitimized his status at cruiserweight.

“Yeah, I give a lot of credit to Jake Paul on this win.”

On whether a fight with Jai Opetaia is next for him.

“I’m ready, I’m the champion. I [want to become] undisputed.”

Raul Curiel Stops Victor Rodriguez in 4

Raul Curiel remained undefeated with a fourth round stoppage over Victor Rodriguez in a 10-round welterweight bout.

In round four, Curiel landed an a hard uppercut that was followed by a right to the body that sent Rodriguez down. The nose of Rodriguez was bleeding badly. Rodriguez was hurt and Curiel jumped on him with a flurry of punches on the ropes and the fight was stopped at 2:09.

Curiel, 146.4 lbs of Guadalajara, MEX is 16-0-1 with 14 knockouts. Rodriguez, 145.2 lbs of Maldonado, URU is 16-1-1.

Raul Curiel Quotes

On his performance and what’s next

“All due respect for my opponent. It was hard-hitting. He comes to fight and win the fight. I tried to put all my experience on the line and everything, thank God, went well. I’m very happy for my performance. I think I do it well, and I’m ready for everything. I’m ready for every champ, whoever is available. Now I won the title eliminator, so I’m here to fight anyone in the division.”

On what the exchanges felt like and how he was able to stop Rodriguez

“Like I said, he was hard-hitting, a hard puncher. He came to win, and it was a brawl. I always try to make it a war for people. For the fans, I know that’s why they paid for the tickets. I knew it was going to be a war because I studied before the fight, and I knew he was strong. I made a good fight plan for this one, and I felt stronger, and every fight I’m doing better and better.”

Julian Rodriguez Stops Avious Griffin in 10th and Final Round

Julian Rodriguez scored the biggest win of his career by stopping previously undefeated AVious Griffin in the 10th and final round of their welterweight bout.

Over the first half of the fight, Rodriguez got out to a lead by landing some nice counter shots.

In round eight, Griffin dropped Rodriguez with a chopping right hand. Rodriguez came back in round nine by landing a right hand that buckled Griffin. In round 10, Rodriguez ducked under and landed a left hook that hurt and dropped Griffin. Griffin rolled around and with a bloody nose could not beat the count at 2:55.

Rodriguezz, 146.6 lbs of Hoboken, NJ is 24-1 with 15 knockouts. Griffin, 146.8 lbs of Chattanooga, TN is 17-1.

Schofield Takes Out Farmer in 1st Round

Floyd Schofield scored the most significant win of his career as he took out Tevin Farmer in the opening round of their 10-round lightweight bout.

Schofield dropped Farmer in the opening minute with a one-two combination. Schofield then landed a flurry of punches tat was punctuated by a left hook. With Farmer hurt, Schofield landed a hard flurry and the bout was stopped at 1:18.

Schofield, 134.8 lbs of Austin, TX is 19-0 with 13 knockouts. Farmer, 135 lbs of Philadelphia is 33-9-1.

Floyd Schofield Quotes

On if he was surprised at how quickly the fight ended

“Yes and no. So much was going on. I was just thinking a mile a minute, so when the fight was over it didn’t register that the fight was over. I was so hype! I told my dad I just wanted to run out of the ring and celebrate.”

On his message to naysayers

“If you are a hater, continue to hate. If you’re a supporter, I appreciate you, love you. We’re just going to keep doing great things, keep getting bigger. Me and Shakur [Stevenson] have unfinished business at the end of the day. That’s going to eventually happen, and I’ll be able to prove what I was going to do in February.”

Holly Holm returned to boxing after a successful championship run in the UFC and won a 10-round unanimous decision over Yolanda Vega in a super lightweight fight.

Holm, 136.6 lbs of ALbiquerque, NM won by scores of 100-90 on all cards and is now 33-2-3. Vega, 136 lbs of Sonora, MEX is 10-1.

Holly Holm Quotes

On how much she was motivated by Yolanda Vega’s trash talk this week

“I use anything as motivation. They could be being too friendly, and I’d be like, ‘I’m not your friend.’ They could be talking a bunch of trash, and I’d be like “don’t talk like that.” Leading up to a fight, you’ll use anything as motivation, but really my motivation is in me. I fight for myself and the support that I have from my team and my family. When it comes down to it, they should want to win. I don’t want to fight somebody who’s not there to win. I don’t want to fight somebody who’s not at their best. I want to beat them when they’re at their best. I wanted [Yolanda Vega] to come with everything she had, because that makes it more of a sweet victory.”

On the secret to her longevity

“When people tell me that I’m old, I don’t feel it. I do think that it’s [due to] activity, that it’s a mindset, basic health. I think there are a lot of things to it but I think the number one thing is that as long as [boxing is] your passion. I have trainers that I really trust, and if they felt like I couldn’t do it anymore, they would tell me. So I keep those people close to me, and I listen to them. I know I can still do it, they believe in me too, and that’s all it takes. It’s still my passion. I’m not going to do it forever, obviously the years [ahead] are getting less, but I know that I’m still healthy and still ready to go.”

On what we will see next from her

“Better. I had fun tonight, but I definitely want more from myself.”

Joel Iriarte won eight-round unanimous decision over Kevin Johnson in a welterweight bout.

Iriarte, 146.8 lbs of Bakersfield, CA won by scores of 80-72, 79-74 and 78-74 and is now 8-0. Johnson, 146.4 lbs of Las Vegas is 12-7.

Edwards, 226 lbs of Houston is 3-0 with three knockouts. Hardy, 251.4 lbs of Chicago is 6-4.

VIDEO: JAKE PAUL VS. JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ JR WEIGH IN

MOST VALUABLE PROMOTIONS’ JAKE PAUL VS. JULIO CÉSAR CHÁVEZ JR. SETS RECORD FOR BIGGEST BOXING GATE IN HONDA CENTER HISTORY

ANAHEIM, CA – June 27, 2025 – Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) today announced that Jake Paul vs. Julio César Chávez Jr. has officially set the biggest boxing gate in the history of Honda Center, one of Southern California’s most iconic combat sports venues. The blockbuster event surpasses previous Honda Center headliners, including Canelo Álvarez (37th professional fight) vs. Matthew Hatton for the WBC super welterweight championship, Ryan Garcia (20th professional fight) vs. Francisco Fonseca, and the recent sold-out Nate Diaz vs. Jorge Masvidal. In just his 13th professional bout and with no amateur career, Paul has broken boxing records at every major U.S. arena he’s fought in.

Since headlining his first fight, Jake Paul has broken records at every arena in the United States he has fought at. Most recently, Paul vs. Tyson in November 2024 achieved a gate of $18,117,072 with an average ticket price of $304, shattering AT&T Stadium’s former record and doubling Texas’s previous combat sports gate record of $9 million set by Canelo Álvarez, and marking the highest combat sports gate in US history outside of Las Vegas. Paul vs. Tyson also became the most-streamed sporting event in history with an AMA of 108M and 65M+ concurrent streams globally, including over 64M AMA in the US.

Paul vs. Bourland (initially scheduled as the co-main event of Serrano vs. Meinke) was the highest recorded gate for a boxing event in Puerto Rico history in March 2024. The Coliseo de Puerto Rico’s first-ever event, Miguel Cotto vs. Kelson Pinto in September 2004, previously held the record in Puerto Rico for nearly 20 years.

Paul vs. August in Orlando, FL, achieved the highest recorded gate and highest average ticket price for a boxing event in Orlando’s history in December 2023. Paul vs. August surpassed the previous record set by Miguel Cotto vs. Delvin Rodriguez. Paul’s bout also achieved the highest average ticket price ever recorded in the city’s boxing history.

Jake’s record-setting appearance in Dallas, TX for Paul vs. Diaz in August 2023 was the highest boxing gate and second biggest combat sports gate ever at the American Airlines Center. Paul vs. Diaz trails behind UFC 277, which holds the record for the highest-grossing combat sports gate and “highest-grossing single-night event” in American Airlines Center history.

Previously, Paul vs. Silva broke a record for the highest boxing gate at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona, trailing only UFC 263 for the highest-grossing combat sports event in arena history.

Paul vs. Woodley II set the record for the highest combat sports gate at Amalie Arena in Tampa and Paul vs. Woodley I was the highest boxing gate ever at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio trailing only UFC 203, which was the highest combat sports gate in arena history.

“Breaking the all-time boxing gate record at Honda Center is another milestone in Jake Paul’s unprecedented run as a headliner and further proof that he is one of the most valuable draws in combat sports,” said Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions. “ This venue has seen headliners like Canelo Álvarez, Ryan Garcia Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal—fighters with deep amateur pedigrees and years of professional experience. Now, in just his 13th pro fight with no amateur background, Jake is not only headlining but generating three to four times the ticket revenue of past marquee events. He’s not just breaking records, he’s changing the business of boxing.”

Jake Paul vs. Julio César Chávez Jr. headlines a stacked night of fights this Saturday, June 28, live globally on DAZN PPV from Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Tickets are available now at Ticketmaster.com.

Jake Paul Quotes

On picking Chavez Jr. for this fight

“He’s a great fighter. I like big names, legendary names, and he’s on my path to a world championship. This is a tough test, a very tough test, but I’m here to challenge myself and do big things in this sport and then make a title run after I beat him on Saturday.”

On how much he thinks Chavez Jr has left in the tank

“He’s coming in prepared. They’re saying this is the hardest he’s ever trained, and he’s right…I’m not a good boxer. I’m a great boxer.”

On which fight besides his own he is most excited to see

“This is a stacked card. This is how MVP does it; no one else in boxing is doing it like this. We have amazing fights all the way through. I grew up watching Holly Holm, Floyd Schofield is an incredible talent, and in my first fight, I was on the same card as Tevin Farmer. There’s a lot of history here. This is going to be amazing.”

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Quotes

On Jake Paul as a fighter

“No, I don’t think he’s good. I think he tries, he trains hard, but he’s not a good fighter. He’s definitely not a good boxer. If he were a good boxer, then everyone else on this stage would be a legend. I don’t think he’s a good boxer, and everybody knows that.”

On if Jake Paul has gotten under his skin

“No, not really. I was expecting that from him. That’s the only way he can get attention because in boxing, he really has nothing to get presumptuous about.”

On why he’s so confident he’ll beat Jake Paul

My preparation, I always prepare to take a win. I’m here to win and that’s why I’m so confident that I will win.”

Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. Quotes

On what his son needs to do on Saturday

“He knows exactly what to do. Jake Paul just fought against Mike Tyson, who didn’t even throw one punch. This is not Mike Tyson. You [Jake] are going to get your ass whooped. Julio is going to go in throwing some serious punches, and you’re going to be running like a chicken without a head.

Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez Quotes

On what he expects the fight to look like on Saturday

“Saturday night, I expect a war. I expect he comes really prepared. We’ll see why Zurdo is the champion, unified

On if he fears Dorticos’ power

“I’m prepared for Doctor K.O.”

Yuniel Dorticós Quotes

On if this is his last chance on a stage like this and what he’ll do to Zurdo

“I wont keep repeating the same thing, but I’m going to show everyone that 39 years is really nothing.”

On if he thinks Zurdo is the best cruiserweight in the world

“He has to show up on Saturday. On Saturday, we’re going to have a war.”

Raul Curiel Quotes

On what people can expect from him in the ring on sAturday

“My last fight was a fight of the year contender. This fight will not be the exception. I can’t wait to put on a show, I’m going to bring war. I’m ready.”

On if Rodrgiuez can handle his power

“We’ll see. We have a tremendous camp with Robert Garcia now. I’m very confident in my skills and in the best shape of my career. I’m confident in my skills and can’t wait to put on a show.”

Victor Rodriguez Quotes

On what he thinks of his opponent

“I don’t know much about him, I’m not going to talk about him. I’m going to talk about myself. I’m ready, I did my work and I come representing a very small country, but on Saturday it’s going to be a big country.”

On his style and if he can stop Curiel

“Of course I think I’m able to stop him. If not, I wouldn’t be here. The one thing I can promise is it’s going to be a great show.”

Avious Griffin Quotes

On what the underdog nickname means to him

“The underdog nickname comes from the lifestyle, coming from where I come from, Chattanooga, TN. A small neighborhood called Little Brighton, a lot of people don’t make it out, a lot of people don’t make it this far, on stage with Jake Paul, amongst these type of boxers at a high level. It just comes from being doubted and still rising to the occasion every time.”

On if he is confident he can stop Rodriguez

“Yes, sir. I’m here to do what I do. He’s supposed to be a tough opponent on paper, but I’ve overcame way more tougher things in life. I done faced murder charges, was innocent, 203-1, all types of things like that so a guy with a pair of gloves on ain’t talking about shit.”

Julian Rodriguez Quotes

On what he’s going to do Saturday night

“I’m coming with everything on Saturday. This is a different level for him. I know what I see. I’m going to exploit all this man’s power on Saturday.”

Floyd Schofield Quotes

On his thoughts about former champ Farmer

“I was excited. I haven’t fought since November. Tevin has been on a good three fight streak. When I got the call, I was just excited and told my dad, ‘Take the fight. We’re ready.’”

On what happened in Saudi Arabia

“I don’t want to get too much into that topic. It is what it is, people may believe it, some not. I didn’t get to take the fight, so I’m here now.”

On what he’ll do to Farmer on Saturday

“Saturday night we’re going to see. I feel like he’s underestimating me, so we’ll see. The second Zepeda fight was a little shaky.”

Tevin Farmer Quotes

On what he makes of Floyd Schofield’s skills

“Every time I get asked this question, I really have to think. Stepping up to this level, I think nothing of him, but as a young fighter, competing with someone that’s not a veteran like me, if he was to compete with someone at his level, I would say he’s a great fighter. But stepping up to this level, I don’t know.

On why he is not impressed with Schofield

“What does he do great that I haven’t seen ever? He’s stepping in with Tevin Farmer. I’ve got so much shit he hasn’t seen, I’m going to test his composure, I’m going to test everything about him. There’s nothing he can test on me that I haven’t been through. He’s not stronger than me, he’s not smarter than me. You’re not (William) Zepeda.”

Holly Holm Quotes

On how much she missed boxing

“I just like to follow my heart and my passion. This is what my heart is telling me to do right now, to come back to boxing. Out of all my prior boxing years, I never got to fight at this weight class, and the majority of my entire MMA career was at this weight class. I feel like it’s unfinished business to come back and be able to fight in a fourth division and fight for another title.”

On if she can be as good as she was when she left the sport

“I think I’m going to be better. I’ve learned over this last decade, it’s not just going back to what I did 10 years ago. It’s the fighter that I‘ve become now, and the skill set that I learned throughout the last 10 years. I’ve been in the gym, so there’s time spent, ring time spent, and I’ll be a better fighter than I was before.”

Yolanda Vega Quotes

On what it means to her to face a legend like Holly Holm

“It’s huge pride to have someone like Holly Holm with her experience as an opponent, but I think it’s going to be time for her to realize this is the time for the new generation. She needs to retire.”

On she beats Holly Holm

“The work has been done in the gym, and on Saturday they will realize there is a new Mexican that will give face for the Mexican flag.”

Mexican boxing icon Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez Respects Cuban fighters & rivalry

LOS ANGELES (June 25, 2025) –- Unified World Cruiserweight Champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (47-1, 30 KOs) has expressed his highest respect for the Mexican vs. Cuban boxing rivalry that continues this Saturday night (June 28) when he defends his World Boxing Organization (WBO) and World Boxing Association (WBA) titles against the WBA’s No. 1, mandatory challenger Yuniel “The KO Doctor” Dorticos (27-2, 25 KOs).

Ramirez vs. Dorticos is the 12-round co-feature on the stacked DAZN Pay-Per-View event, presented by MVP Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions, featuring internet sensation Jake “The Problem Child” Paul (11-1, 7 KOs) versus Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. (54-6-1, 34 KOs), the son of 6-time, 3-division world champion, Hall of Famer Julio Ceasar Chavez (107-6-2, 85 KOs), in the 10-round main event at Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

Legendary Mexican vs. Cuban fights include Gaspar Ortega vs. Kid Gavilan 1 & 2, Jose Luis Castillo vs. Joel Casmayor, Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Casamayor, and Armando Muniz vs. Jose Napoles, 1 & 2.

Mexican fighters are generally aggressive and pressuring, while Cuban fighters are known for their technique, footwork, and defense. However, in the June 28th matchup, “Zurdo” combines excellent technique and footwork, and Dorticos, nicknamed “The KO Doctor,” embodies his knockout style.

“Zurdo” is 2-0 as a pro against Cuban fighters. In 2021, Ramirez defeated Yuniesky “The Monster” Gonzalez (21-3, 17 KOs) by way of a 12-th round knockout and he stopped Sullivan Barrera (22-3, 14 KOs) in round four, flooring his opponent three times with body shots. In his last fight more than a year ago, Dorticos fought his first Mexican opponent in the pro ranks, Alan Campa (19-9, 13 KOs), who was stopped in the opening round.

“I have a lot of respect for Cuban fighters,” Ramirez said. “They always possess a lot of skills and are difficult fighters to deal with. Dorticos is a power puncher with good footwork, and I know he can be dangerous at any point of the fight. I’ve trained like I would for any fight, and I’ve never taken an opportunity for granted. I know this fight can change his life and I expect him to bring his best on fight night.”

A talented amateur, Ramirez became a two-time Sugar Bert national champion and took home the Regional Golden Gloves title and Southern California State title in 2018. With his ability to combine pinpoint precision and knockout power, Gueche has solidified his place as one of boxing’s most exciting young talents. Avina, boasting an 87.5% knockout rate, will look to derail Gueche’s momentum and further establish himself as a top-tier prospect.

Golden Boy’s undefeated former Team USA member, Joel Iriarte (7-0, 7 KOs), returns to action on the preliminary card in a 8-round 147lb welterweight showdown against Tanzanian prospect Yusuph “Mr. Mwanza” Metu (11-2, 8 KOs). Facing him from Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania, by way of Mwanza, Tanzania, will be Metu, who enters his second fight ever in the United States.

“MVP is proud to deliver one of the most stacked preliminary cards in recent memory, featuring a mix of rising stars, world-class talent, and champion pedigree,” said Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions. “From top-tier prospects like MVP’s own Alexander Gueche, and Joel Iriarte to proven names like #1 WBA contender John ‘Scrappy’ Ramirez and Victor Morales Jr., Saturday, June 28 promises nonstop action from the opening bell. From start to finish, fans are in for an unforgettable night.”

Topping MVP’s pay-per-view card on DAZN will be MVP’s international superstar Jake “El Gallo de Dorado” Paul (11-1, 7 KOs) vs. Mexico’s former champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (54-6-1, 34 KOs) as they face off in a 10-round blockbuster main event at 200lbs on Saturday, June 28. This event will air live globally on DAZN pay-per-view on Saturday, June 28, from Honda Center in Anaheim, California, and is presented by CELSIUS Live Fit Essential Energy with Golden Boy Promotions serving as an official licensed promoter. Also in attendance were Golden Boy’s WBO cruiserweight world champion and WBA cruiserweight super champion Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez (47-1, 30 KOs), who will defend his titles for the first time in June, and former IBF and WBA cruiserweight world champion and current WBA mandatory challenger at 200lbs Yuniel Dorticos (27-2, 25 KOs). Ramirez vs. Dorticos will face off in the co-main event of Paul vs. Chavez Jr.

In today’s press conference, hosted by senior sports writer and analyst Chris Mannix, Paul, Chavez Jr., Dorticós, and Ramírez had plenty to say about the upcoming fight. The fighters were also joined on stage by CEO and co-founder of MVP Nakisa Bidarian, chairman and CEO of Golden Boy, Oscar De La Hoya and Mexican boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. Other participants included former UFC bantamweight champion and boxing powerhouse, Boxrec’s #2 greatest pound-for-pound fighter of all time, Holly “The Preacher’s Daughter” Holm (33-2-3, 9 KOs), and one of Mexico’s brightest rising stars, Yolanda “Pitayita” Vega  (10-0, 1 KO) who faced off after it was announced that they are the newest signees to Most Valuable Promotions, and will also be joining the Paul-Chavez Jr. card.

Jake Paul Quotes

On why facing Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. was the right fight following the Tyson win

“This fight has been brewing for quite some time now. The fans have wanted to see this, and I want to continue to elevate and raise the level of my opponents. This is a former world champion, and he has an amazing resume following in his dad’s footsteps […]. This guy is a great fighter, and I want to test myself against the best in the world.”

On how important it is to do what Canelo could not do and stop Chavez Jr.

“I’m going to shock the world once again and prove how good and how powerful I am. This is his toughest fight to date, and I’m going to embarrass him and make him quit like he always does.”

On if he wants the best of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

“I don’t want any excuses. When I beat this man, all the boxing media, like you always do, are going to discredit it. I’m going to expose and embarrass him. He’s the embarrassment of Mexico. Mexico doesn’t even claim him, and he’s going to get exposed on June 28. They say he’s training hard. They say this is the most focused he’s ever been. Good. As he should be. People don’t realize how good I actually am, and when he feels those first few punches, he’s going to want to quit and go back to his stool.”

On if this signals his pursuit of a world title

“I’ve always said that I’ll fight really tough people and fight big money fights. This is prize fighting, so I’m giving the fans what they want with every single fight by taking on tougher opponents.”

On if he’s thinking about a future matchup with Ramirez if he beats Chavez Jr.

“Yeah, 100%. This is what I came here to do: to become world champion and create one of the greatest sports stories the world has ever seen. Going from Disney Channel to YouTube to world champion in six to seven years? That’s the most relatable and best sports story that any kid can get behind. I’m here to inspire the next generation and do what no one has ever done before in the world’s hardest sport, and that is boxing.”

On fighting in this type of atmosphere

“Man, the Mexicans love me. I’m stepping into my home environment. They love me more than they love this guy. Mexico doesn’t even claim him. I love my Mexican fans, and they’ve always been rocking with me since day one. I’m going to show him who the real Mexican warrior is.”

On whether Chavez Jr. will be his very best after getting back in the gym to train

“That’s not a champion’s mindset. You have a big fight and all of a sudden you start training hard? I train as hard as possible, no matter who I’m fighting, and that shows you the type of person [Julio] is.”

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Quotes

On being called an embarrassment and a quitter

“Jake is crazy. I think he’s overrated. He hasn’t fought anybody in his life. On June 28th, he’s going to see what’s up. To start off, he’s never knocked anybody out. Give me one name he’s knocked out, just one. It’s like if I fought with my dad. It’s going to be a good fight. When he was born, I was already a champ.”

On what’s different coming into this fight

“I feel very good. I feel refreshed and renewed. I haven’t taken blows to the head, so I’m a lot better than he is.”

On what he has to do to win

“I need to prepare 100%. This is an interesting fight. It might not be easy, but I’m going to do the best I can to be the best person I am, but I think I’m going to take him.

On what he can do to Jake Paul

“He’s never fought anybody like me. Mike Tyson wasn’t even a fighter. He doesn’t know what he’s going to see or what to expect because he’s never seen it before. In boxing, you learn step by step, and he’s missing many.”

Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. Quotes

On what he’s seen differently from his son coming into this fight

“I’ve never seen him train like this, he’s very focused. With all due respect to Jake Paul, there is no way that Jake Paul can beat my son.”

How does the fight end between your son and Jake Paul

“All fights are difficult. Jake Paul is young and strong, but he’s never faced a fighter like my son. I would’ve given Mike Tyson a better fight. He didn’t throw one punch the whole fight. This time is different. This time, he’s going to get fucked up.”

Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez Quotes

His reaction when he was presented with this fight

“I’m grateful to be here. It’s a great card, great show. At the end of the day, I’m going to keep my belt, defend my title, and move forward.”

On the challenge Dorticos presents

“He’s a great challenge. He’s a former world champion. I’m just glad to be here, and on June 28th I will keep my belt. That’s all.”

On how he plans to handle Dorticos’ power

“I’ve been in the gym and I’ve been training. I think I’ll handle it pretty well. We’ll see and be ready for June 28th.”

On how he’d feel about a showdown with Jake Paul down the line

“He’s been doing a great job. He has a good challenge, but if he wants the belt, maybe one day. He has to pass the test first.”

Yuniel Dorticos Quotes

On how he’s feeling coming into the fight

“First of all, I want to thank God and everybody who came here to attend this press conference. I want to thank MVP, Golden Boy, and Warrior Boxing. I promise on June 28th, even the angels will shake because the ‘KO Doctor’ is back.”

On if he feels like he’s at his best

“Yes, on paper it might say I’m 39, but I feel like a young man. I am absolutely grateful for this opportunity, but on June 28th, everybody will know who the KO doctor is.”

On if Ramirez has faced anyone with his [Dorticos] power

“Well, we’re going to have to see on June 28. He’s fought big guys, but he’s never fought anybody like me.”

MVP SIGNS MOST DOMINANT TWO-SPORT ATHLETE OF ALL TIME, FORMER BOXING AND UFC CHAMPION HOLLY HOLM AND UNDEFEATED RISING MEXICAN FIGHTER YOLANDA VEGA; HOLM VS. VEGA JOINS PAUL VS. CHÁVEZ JR. CARD ON SATURDAY, JUNE 28

NEW YORK, NY – May 14, 2025 – Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) today reinforced its dominance in global women’s boxing by announcing the signings of Boxrec’s #2 greatest pound-for-pound women’s boxer of all time and former UFC 135lb champion Holly “The Preacher’s Daughter” Holm (33-2, 9 KOs) and 29-year-old undefeated Mexican superstar Yolanda “Pitayita” Vega (10-0, 1 KO). Holm and Vega join MVP’s elite roster ahead of their faceoff on the Jake Paul vs. Julio César Chávez Jr. card, first announced today at the event’s preview press conference, where Holm and Vega made a surprise appearance. Holm vs. Vega will be a 10-round lightweight bout contested over two-minute rounds. Paul vs. Chavez Jr. will air live globally on DAZN pay-per-view on Saturday, June 28, from Honda Center in Anaheim, California, and is presented by CELSIUS Live Fit Essential Energy with Golden Boy Promotions serving as an official licensed promoter. Tickets for Paul vs. Chavez Jr. are on sale now on Ticketmaster.com.

Holly “The Preacher’s Daughter” Holm (33-2, 9 KOs) is widely regarded as the most dominant two-sport athlete in combat sports history. A pioneer in women’s boxing and a trailblazer in MMA, Holm is the only fighter to hold world titles in both disciplines, cementing her legacy as a generational talent and global icon. Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Holm grew up with a background in soccer, gymnastics, and swimming before discovering her passion and talent for boxing and kickboxing. In the fall of 2001, Holm won the IKF national amateur championship title before making her pro boxing debut in January 2002, winning by TKO over Martha Deitchman. Quickly establishing her dominance in the pro ranks, Holm earned her first title shot at the IBA super lightweight title in December 2004, earning a 10-round unanimous decision win over Terri Blair. After three title defense victories, she moved up to the welterweight class at 147 lbs and secured the WBA welterweight title in a unanimous decision over Angelica Martinez in June 2006. In June 2008, Holm stepped up to 154lbs in the super welterweight division and cruised to a 10-round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Mary Jo Sanders, winning the then-vacant IBA and WBAN super welterweight titles. In December 2011, Holm was defeated by Anne Sophie Mathis as the pair contested for the vacant IBA female and WBAN welterweight titles. Holm quickly reclaimed her winning streak as she faced Mathis in a rematch in June 2012, avenging the loss with a unanimous decision   victory and adding the WBF, IBA, and WBAN titles to her collection. Holm then moved back down to the super lightweight division to compete for the vacant WBF and IBA titles, winning by decision over Diana Prazak. In May 2013, Holm cemented her legacy as an 18-time world champion across three weight classes as she successfully defended the WBF and IBA super lightweight titles against Mary McGee that month. Holm then pivoted her electrifying career into MMA, signing a multifight deal with the UFC in 2014. Her MMA career culminated in her headlining megafight against then-undefeated bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey in November 2015, the most highly attended UFC event in history at the time. Rousey was the overwhelming favorite going into the bout, but Holm came into the bout strong, leveraging her southpaw stance and boxing skill to control the opening round before landing a sensational knockout in the second round—and handing Rousey her first loss. As she earned the title, Holm became the first person to win championships in both boxing and MMA. She is currently ranked Boxrec’s #2 greatest pound-for-pound fighter of all time and remains the most dominant two-sport athlete of all time, She will return to the ring on the Jake Paul vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. pay-per-view on Saturday, June 28 to face Yolanda Vega in a 10-round lightweight bout contested over two-minute rounds.

“I’m excited to partner with Most Valuable Promotions and return to the boxing ring,” said Holly Holm. “This new chapter is going to be an exciting journey, and I’m looking forward to the challenge. Coming full circle back to boxing- I’ve spent most of my MMA career at 135 pounds, and now I have the opportunity to make my boxing debut at that weight. With boxing titles in three higher weight classes under my belt, I’m eager to pursue a fourth title in a new division.”

Born and raised in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico, undefeated Mexican superstar Yolanda “Pitayita” Vega (10-0, 1 KO) has quickly emerged as one of the brightest talents in Mexico’s women’s boxing scene. Since making her pro boxing debut against Julissa Alejandra Guzman in July 2015, Vega has built a name for herself with her technical precision with relentless determination. Ranked as Boxrec’s #13 super lightweight women’s boxer in the world, Vega has established herself as a standout in Mexican boxing, with standout career moments such as her TKO win over Cintia Cardona Ortega in November 2023. After retaining an undefeated record for nearly ten years, Vega secured a hard-fought unanimous decision victory over Claudia Fernanda Herrera Lopez in her most recent bout in March 2025 to earn the WBA Fedelatin super lightweight title. Riding the momentum of that win, she now sets her sights on extending her undefeated streak as she prepares to take on Holm in her first fight outside of Mexico on Saturday, June 28.

“I feel very happy and grateful to God that a company of this magnitude has taken me into account to join their roster. I am very committed because I know what it means to fight among the highest elite ranks and I trust a lot in my work reflecting at MVP,” said Yolanda “Pitayita” Vega. “Fighting against a champion of this stature on Saturday, June 28 brings me closer to my aim of becoming a world champion. I respect and admire her work a lot, but today she has become my next goal, and goals are meant to be achieved.”

Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) continues to expand its commitment to women’s boxing in 2025 with the signings of Vega and Holm. These signings follow its recent additions of champions Savannah Marshall and Chantelle Cameron in May 2025 and the company’s historic lifetime agreement with seven-division world champion Amanda Serrano, who will complete her career under the MVP banner before becoming Chairwoman of MVP’s women’s boxing initiatives. In this new role, Serrano will lead efforts to identify, sign, develop, and market MVP’s growing roster of female athletes. MVP also announced the Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano trilogy fight, set for Friday, July 11 at Madison Square Garden and airing globally on Netflix, which will headline MSG’s first-ever all-women’s card and feature record-breaking purses for both fighters.

“Holly Holm is the most dominant two-sport athlete in history—period. Her accomplishments in both boxing and MMA are unmatched, and we’re honored to welcome her to Most Valuable Promotions,” said Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions. “I remember when Holly shocked the world by knocking out Ronda Rousey, and I have no doubt she has the ability to shock the world again in her quest to become a boxing world champion once more. But Yolanda is a proud Mexican fighter and has her own plans, which is why she has signed a multi-fight contract with MVP. Signing both Holly Holm and Yolanda Vega reflects our commitment to building the biggest platform in the world for women’s boxing. With Jake Paul vs. Julio César Chávez Jr. headlining and Holm vs. Vega on the card, Saturday, June 28 is going to be one of the most entertaining events of the year.”

Paul vs. Chávez Jr. is produced and marketed by Most Valuable Promotions, with Golden Boy Promotions serving as the official licensed promoter, and is distributed by DAZN pay-per-view. The event is presented by CELSIUS Live Fit Essential Energy, also sponsored by Fansly and Event Ticket Center. ATLANTA, GA – April 18, 2025 – Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) today announced that boxing’s biggest disruptor, international superstar Jake “El Gallo” Paul (11-1, 7 KOs) takes his next step towards world champion against Mexico’s former champion Julio César Chávez Jr. (54-6-1, 34 KOs) on Saturday, June 28 at Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Paul vs. Chávez Jr. will be a standard 10-round men’s professional bout with three minute rounds and 10oz gloves, contested at 200lbs. The historic fight, an MVP Event, will air live globally on DAZN pay-per-view and is presented by CELSIUS Live Fit Essential Energy. Golden Boy Promotions will serve as the official licensed promoter. The event will also feature an array of high-end VIP packages including the return of the one-of-a-kind MVP Owner’s Experience.

In the co-main event, Golden Boy’s 33-year-old WBO cruiserweight world champion and WBA cruiserweight super champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (47-1, 30 KOs)—ESPN’s #2 cruiserweight in the world—will make a title defense against Cuba’s former WBA and IBF cruiserweight world champion, one of the best punchers in boxing and current WBA mandatory challenger Yuniel Dorticós (27-2, 25 KOs) in a men’s world championship bout contested at 200lbs with twelve, three-minute rounds.

The American pride of Puerto Rico, Jake “El Gallo de Dorado” Paul (11-1, 7 KOs), has shown tremendous growth as a boxer on his path to becoming a world champion, and now will look to prove he has what it takes against a former world champion in Julio César Chávez Jr. In just five years since turning pro, Paul has made his impact in the ring, earning high-profile victories over names like Tyron Woodley, Anderson Silva, and Nate Diaz. His viral knockouts and headline-grabbing performances have breathed new life into boxing, drawing millions of fans and setting records. In his latest blockbuster fight in November 2024, Jake Paul defeated the Baddest Man on the Planet, Mike Tyson in a heavyweight bout in the first-ever live professional sporting event on Netflix. MVP’s Paul vs. Tyson shattered records, becoming the most-streamed sporting event ever with 108 million live viewers globally. Paul has collected multiple accolades for his commitment to the sport of boxing, including ESPNRingside’s 2021 Knockout of the Year, Sports Illustrated’s 2021 Breakout Boxer of the Year, ESPNRingside’s 2022 Viral Moment of the Year, and was the cover of Sports Illustrated’s “The 50 Most Influential Figures in Sports” issue, awarded specifically for his groundbreaking work to revolutionize the sport through equitable pay, providing a platform for young fighters, and his support of female boxers. Paul also partnered with USA Boxing ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics, continuing his mission to elevate the sport and its future champions. Paul and MVP are now promoting the biggest all-women’s card in boxing history, Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano 3 on Friday, July 11 at Madison Square Garden, live globally on Netflix, which will feature women’s undisputed and unified championship bouts across its entire main card and six of the top 15–and four of the top 10–women’s pound-for-pound fighters on Boxrec.

“Five years ago, I stepped into the ring for my pro debut after a single amateur fight, and every fight since has been a step towards becoming world champion. I just defeated the baddest man on the planet, and now I’m going against a former champion who conman Canelo couldn’t finish,” said Jake Paul. “Chávez Jr. is Mexican, but I, El Gallo De Dorado, have the will and heart of the great Mexican fighters. On Saturday, June 28, live on DAZN pay-per-view, I will knock out Julio and make Chávez Sr. proud in ways Jr. never has. Another massive event from Most Valuable Promotions, with some Oscar De La Hoya seasoning added to the show. Viva La Puerto Rico.”

Julio César Chávez Jr. (54-6-1, 34 KOs) is a Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico native and son of former three-division world boxing champion Julio César Chávez, “El Gran Campeón Mexicano,” the greatest Mexican fighter of all time. Chávez Jr. began his professional career with an impressive undefeated streak across his first 47 fights. Chávez Jr. climbed the rankings and became the WBC middleweight world champion in 2011, before being defeated by Sergio Martinez in Chávez’s fourth title defense in 2012. Chávez Jr. went on to reclaim regional titles and later won the WBC Continental Americas Super Middleweight title, recently fighting in his hometown of Culiacan to a UD win over David Zegarra. In June 2021, Chávez squared off with MMA star Anderson Silva, suffering a narrow split decision defeat. He most recently returned to the ring to defeat MMA icon Uriah Hall by unanimous decision on the undercard of Jake Paul vs. Mike Perry in July 2024. Now, Chávez Jr. will have the opportunity to grow his legacy further within the cruiserweight division as he faces Jake Paul on Saturday, June 28.

“First of all, I will show what I can do now that everything is in the right place in my life—mentally and physically,” said Julio César Chávez Jr. “I feel rejuvenated and 10 years younger. Second, I want to thank MVP for taking the risk of fighting me. Unfortunately for their Problem Child, they’re going to have a big problem this June—one they won’t know how to resolve. Hopefully when I beat him, people won’t underestimate this win.”

“Saturday, June 28 marks a defining moment in Jake Paul’s ascent to the top of the boxing world as he aims to show the 125 million people that watched him fight Mike Tyson that he is a real contender in the sport,” said Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions. “Julio César Chávez Jr., a former world champion and the heir to Mexico’s most iconic boxing legacy will be looking to cement his legacy by definitively defeating Jake, something no opponent has been able to do. Add to that the co-main event, which has the return of Mexican Zurdo Ramirez, the WBA and WBO champion, defending his titles against the dangerous Cuban Yuniel Dorticós and you have the ingredients for a night full of fireworks. Most Valuable Promotions is honored to present this momentous card in partnership with Golden Boy Promotions, live from Honda Center in Anaheim and we are proud to continue delivering groundbreaking moments for the sport on DAZN pay-per-view.”

Golden Boy’s Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (47-1, 30 KOs) has over a decade of experience under his belt, debuting as a professional in 2009 and embarking on a career that would see him make boxing history multiple times. In 2016, Ramirez won the WBO Super Middleweight title, defeating “King” Arthur Abraham by unanimous decision in a dominant performance. This victory cemented his status as one of the top fighters, and he became the first Mexican-born fighter to win a world title in the division. Ramirez successfully defended his belt multiple times, defeating tough opponents such as Jesse “Hard Work” Hart and Roamer Alexis Angulo. After five defenses of his title, Ramirez moved up to light heavyweight, where he went on a five-fight winning streak before facing Dmitry Bivol in a unification bout in November 2022. Although Ramirez’ undefeated streak ended in this contest, the fight showcased his resilience, heart, and determination to the sport. Turning that loss into a lesson, Ramirez returned to the ring 11 months later as a cruiserweight this time around. In November 2024, Ramirez made boxing history once again, becoming the first Mexican-born unified cruiserweight champion in an all-action packed war against Chris Billam-Smith in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Ramirez’s legacy as one of the most skilled and dangerous fighters of his era continues to grow, and he is widely regarded as one of Mexico’s best current champions.

“I’m excited to step back into the ring this June to defend my WBA and WBO titles. This fight marks my WBA mandatory, and I know I need to get past this opponent to stay on track in my journey toward greatness—and ultimately, to become the undisputed champion,” said Zurdo Ramirez. “I’ve been training non-stop and feel sharper than ever as I continue to grow and mature in the sport. The goal hasn’t changed. I’m locked in, and I’m proud to be featured on this card alongside Jake Paul and my good friend Julio César Chávez Jr. A big thank you to my team, Golden Boy Promotions, MVP, the WBA, the WBO, and all my fans. I can’t wait to put on a show you won’t forget.”

WBA mandatory challenger Yuniel Dorticós (27-2, 25 KOs), known as “The KO Doctor,” is a Cuban professional boxer renowned for his explosive punching power and success in the cruiserweight division. Born on March 11, 1986, in Cienfuegos, Cuba, he enjoyed a strong amateur career, finishing as a national runner-up multiple times and competing in the Boxing World Cup before defecting to the United States in 2009. Turning professional the same year, Dorticós quickly gained attention by winning his first 17 fights by knockout. He captured the WBA interim cruiserweight title in 2016 and went on to become the WBA (Regular) champion in 2017, defending the title until a loss to Murat Gassiev in 2018. In 2019, he claimed the vacant IBF cruiserweight title with a knockout victory over Andrew Tabiti during the World Boxing Super Series (WBSS), ultimately reaching the WBSS final, where he lost a close decision to Mairis Briedis. Known for his aggressive style and knockout power—evidenced by a record of 27 wins (25 by KO) and just 2 losses—Dorticós remains a respected force in the ring. He resides in Miami, Florida, where he continues to train and represent the proud tradition of Cuban boxing.

“I want to thank MVP, my promoters and Golden Boy for this opportunity,” said Yuniel Dorticós. “My goal is to become a three-time world champion, and now by fighting Zurdo Ramirez I have been granted the chance to accomplish my goals on Saturday, June 28.”

“Once again, Golden Boy is proving that we’re willing to work with anyone to deliver the biggest and most exciting events in boxing. We’re thrilled to partner with Jake Paul, Nakisa Bidarian, Most Valuable Promotions, and DAZN to bring this blockbuster night to fans around the world,” said Oscar De La Hoya, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy. “Now the WBA and WBO Unified Cruiserweight Champion, Zurdo has made history not once, but twice—first as the first Mexican-born fighter to become a super middleweight world champion, and now as the first-ever Mexican to claim a cruiserweight world title, holding championships in both divisions. Ramirez is ready to light up the ring once again—this time against the dangerous Yuniel Dorticós, who’s coming in with everything he’s got to steal the spotlight in this mandatory matchup. But make no mistake: Zurdo is built for moments like this. It’s going to be an unforgettable night celebrating the best of Mexican boxing!”

“We are incredibly excited to welcome Jake Paul back to DAZN against a championship calibre opponent in Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.” said Jared Kass, SVP North America, DAZN. “We are grateful to our partners at MVP and Golden Boy for delivering an unmissable night of action from start to finish. So tune in Saturday, June 28, only on DAZN.”

Paul vs. Chávez Jr. is produced and marketed by Most Valuable Promotions, with Golden Boy Promotions serving as the official licensed promoter, and is distributed by DAZN pay-per-view. The event is presented by CELSIUS Live Fit Essential Energy, also sponsored by Fansly and Event Ticket Center. Additional information, including additional bouts, will be announced in the coming weeks.

He first made a name for himself on Bellator, and Ring of Combat, when he won the ROC championship. He went on to take second on The Ultimate Fighter: Team Jones vs. Team Sonnen card, before making his debut in the middleweight division of the UFC in 2013, where he secured a record of 18 wins, 14 by KO, including a TKO of Anderson Silva in 2020. Hall retired from the UFC in 2022 in order to make his cruiserweight professional boxing debut against Le’Veon Bell on the undercard of Jake Paul vs. Anderson Silva. “I’m excited to get back to competing in the boxing ring on Saturday, July, 20,” said Uriah Hall. “I’m ready to challenge myself against a well known boxer and former world champion in Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.”

Joining the “Fear No Man” undercard will be MVP’s super middleweight powerhouse Shadasia “The Sweet Terminator” Green (13-1, 11 KOs), making her first appearance of 2024 in the ring. Green, the former standout college basketball star and Team USA boxing silver medalist, boasts an impressive 13-1 record with 11 KO’s and joined MVP in January 2023 after a trailblazing few years in the sport. Shortly after, Green defeated the former unified world champion Elin Cederroos with a vicious sixth round TKO, marking the first and only time Cederroos was ever stopped in her career. Green’s bout against Olivia Curry in August led to a resounding unanimous decision victory as part of the Paul-Diaz undercard. Green raised to #1 ranking in the WBC, WBO, WBA, and IBF ahead of her latest 10-round women’s championship bout against former undisputed and now-WBC super middleweight champion Franchon-Crews Dezurn for the WBC world and WBA Interim titles. I’m going to remind the world that Shadasia Green is their future super middleweight champion.”

“Fear No Man promises an unforgettable night of challenges for every fighter on the card,” said Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of MVP. “We’re thrilled to announce that H2O Sylve will return to face a dangerous unbeaten title contender, both putting their undefeated records on the line. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will bring his storied Mexican boxing legacy to the ring against Uriah Hall after Hall’s decisive win over Le’Veon Bell at MVP’s Paul vs. Silva in 2022. Shadasia Green returns to pursue her championship aspirations hungrier than ever. Additionally, we look forward to showcasing rising stars and local talents, including Alexis Chaparro, the latest protege of Amanda Serrano. It promises to be an electrifying night of boxing at Amalie Arena in Tampa, available exclusively on DAZN pay-per-view.”

In another thrilling undercard matchup Angel Barrientes (11-1, 7 KOs) will face Edwin Rodriguez (12-8-2, 5 KOs) over 6 rounds at super bantamweight. The 21-year-old Barrientes comes to the ring from Las Vegas, Nevada by way of Honolulu, Hawaii. Barrientes most recently secured a decisive first-round knockout against Ernesto Sebastian Franzolini in late May 2024, building his current win streak to 8 fights. Barrientes now looks to add Rodriguez to his slate of wins. Rodriguez, a native of Juana Díaz, Puerto Rico, has been boxing since age six. In his years as an amateur boxer, Rodriguez was a standout in the Puerto Rican boxing scene, facing notable boxers including Emmanuel “Manny” Rodríguez, Oscar Valdez, Alberto Machado, Jonathan “Bomba” González, and Angel “Tito” Acosta, among others. He accumulated a record of 201 wins and just 25 losses, taking home a silver medal at the Junior Olympics in Quito, Ecuador, and made the second team of the Puerto Rico National Amateur Boxing Team. Rodríguez made his professional debut in 2012, and has since fought 22 times. He trains with the Galarza family at the Los Galarza gym in Juana Díaz, Puerto Rico, considered to be a testing ground for rising prospects.

Amanda Serrano’s newest signee, Alexis “Chop Chop” Chaparro (1-0, 1 KO) most recently took home a first-round KO win over Daniel Augare in his pro debut on Most Valuable Prospects 6 in April 2024. The 23-year-old Chaparro, born in Puerto Rico and raised in Ridgewood, New York, is a three-time national boxing champion who competed at both the 2020 and 2024 USA Boxing Olympic trials. The gifted athlete is also a high fashion model, having worked for Versace, Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana, Giorgio Armani, and Polo Ralph Lauren, among others. Chaparro joins Serrano’s growing roster of Puerto Rican talents including the young undefeated sensation Krystal Rosado (3-0, 1 KO). Chaparro will now face Kevin Hill (1-1, 1 KO) in a four round middleweight bout on the Paul vs. Perry and Serrano vs. Morgan undercard. Hill, the more experienced 35-year-old fighter, comes to the ring from St. Louis, Missouri ready to challenge Chaparro’s speed and skill on Saturday, July 20.

Another Tampa local, Ariel “Golden Hulk” Perez (3-0, 2 KOs) returns to the ring following his crowd-raising performance on Most Valuable Prospects 6 in April 2024, set to take on Dane Guerrero (0-0-1) at light heavyweight. Perez dominated in his latest bout against Steven Motley in April, sending Motley staggering multiple times before locking in a stoppage victory in the fourth round. Guerrero, fighting out of Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, now looks to add his first professional victory to his record after securing a draw in his professional debut in 2023.

Paul vs. Perry and Serrano vs. Morgan: “Fear No Man” is produced and marketed by MVP with Boxlab Promotions serving as the official licensed promoter and is distributed by DAZN pay-per–view. CELSIUS Live Fit Essential Energy, maker of lifestyle energy drink, is the exclusive energy drink sponsor of MVP. Additional information will be announced in the coming weeks.

Goyat is a three-time WBC Asia title holder in 2015, 2016, and 2017, was named “Honorary Boxer of the Year” in 2017 by WBC Asia, and was the first Indian boxer ever to make the WBC World Rankings. In spring 2024, he surged to the forefront of fighter attention worldwide via his viral social media campaign to fight MVP co-founder and international superstar Jake Paul, which culminated with Goyat traveling to San Juan, Puerto Rico to face off with Paul in person, ultimately signing to MVP. Goyat’s callout and subsequent faceoff set off a seismic wave of engagement across social media, garnering well over 150M views on his social media alone. With a massive following of over 100 million across social platforms, including 59.5 million on Instagram and 44.6 million on YouTube, Nunes is a formidable figure in the digital world. For his upcoming fight, he is sharpening his skills under the guidance of coaches Diego Rodrigues and Caio Franco, and is training alongside Olympic medalist and professional boxing standout Esquiva Falcao, promising his best performance yet.

“I grew up watching big names in boxing, so having the opportunity to be part of this card and challenge myself in this sport is an honor,” said Whindersson Nunes. “As I’ve said on other occasions, boxing is more than just a fight: it’s an art that requires a lot of technique, timing and strategy. I have been preparing myself daily with my coaches to present my best version of a fighter in Texas and, once again, defend and make my country proud.”

“By featuring two more international stars in Neeraj Goyat and Whindersson Nunes, alongside the rest of our historic card, we’re strategically supplementing Paul vs. Tyson and Taylor vs. Serrano 2 to drive patriotic engagement with the event from two of the biggest countries in the world,” said Nakisa Bidarian and Jake Paul, co-founders of Most Valuable Promotions. “Neeraj Goyat is arguably the greatest Indian boxer of all time and he will now have the opportunity to represent India as a part of one of the biggest boxing events of all time. Netflix and Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) today announced that MVP’s undefeated young phenom H2O Sylve (11-0, 9 KOs) will face fellow undefeated top prospect Floyd “Kid Austin” Schofield (17-0, 12 KOs) in a clash of two of boxing’s best lightweight prospects. The 10-round lightweight battle will take place on the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson and Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano undercard on Saturday, July 20 as the two up-and-coming stars put their undefeated records on the line early in their careers, breaking the boxing mold to differentiate themselves and help grow the sport. Joining Sylve vs. Schofield on the undercard will be veteran Mexican cruiserweight and former WBC middleweight world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (53-6-1, 34 KOs) vs. UK UFC star Darren Till in Till’s professional boxing debut following his tremendous UFC career, which garnered the fighter 18 wins inside the cage, including 10 knockouts and 2 wins by submission. The fight will be a 6 round cruiserweight bout, contested at 190lbs. Paul vs. Tyson will stream live globally, exclusively on Netflix from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys. Over 120,000 fans have signed up for presale access, a testament to the unprecedented immense global demand and excitement for the Paul vs. Tyson heavyweight mega-fight and Taylor vs. Serrano, the most-anticipated rematch in women’s boxing history. Fans can still sign up for advance presale access here.

H2O Sylve, MVP’s undefeated 20-year-old phenom from Long Beach, California, returns to the ring following his 10-round bout against Brazil’s Estivan Falcao on MVP’s Most Valuable Prospects V in February 2024. The fight marked a step up in class for Sylve and followed his thrilling knockout of veteran William Silva on the Paul vs. Diaz card in August of 2023. Now, Sylve, ESPN Ringside’s 2022 Prospect of the Year, will look to test himself against a fellow world-class boxing prospect in Schofield, as both set their eyes on becoming a title contender in the near future. Sylve signed with MVP in 2022 and has been training in boxing since age 6 under his father Ivan.

“I can’t wait to step into the ring with ‘Kid Austin,’” said H2O Sylve. “He’s just another stepping stone on my path to greatness and when I’m done with him, he’ll wish he never signed the contract. It’s an honor to fight on this historic card and on Saturday, July 20th, over 270 million fans can tune in on Netflix and 80,000 more fans live at AT&T Stadium will have the opportunity to see me take care of ‘Kid Austin’ once and for all. Thank you to MVP and Netflix for this once in a lifetime opportunity.”

No stranger to overcoming adversity, 21-year-old Floyd “Kid Austin” Schofield Jr. battled through poverty and homelessness to become one of the hottest world title contenders in the lightweight division. A pugilist working out of Davies Boxing and Fitness in San Antonio, Texas, his training and sparring resume features a long list of current and up-and-coming world champions. Schofield made his professional debut on October 9, 2020, with a skilled knockout over Richard Esquibel. Since then, he has quickly built out his undefeated, professional portfolio with a series of knockout wins. In March 2024, Schofield successfully defended his WBA International Lightweight title against the unconventional Esteuri Suero, who was disqualified in the fifth round for a low blow, point deductions and poor sportsmanship in the bout.

“Being on a card of this magnitude is very important to me,” said Floyd Schofield Jr. “I’ve worked super hard to get to fights like these, and now it’s time to show what I got. I step into that ring undefeated, and I will leave undefeated. H2O may doubt me, but he’ll soon realize he is facing an unstoppable force. This is my moment, and I look forward to showing the world what Kid Austin is capable of.”

Joining Sylve vs. Schofield on the undercard will be a 6-round Mexico-UK battle between boxing veteran Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and UK UFC star Darren Till who will make his professional boxing debut on Saturday, July 20. Chavez Jr., the Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico native and son of former three-division world boxing champion Julio César Chávez, “El Gran Campeón Mexicano,” the greatest Mexican fighter of all time. Chavez Jr. began his professional career with an impressive undefeated streak across his first 47 fights. Chavez Jr. climbed the rankings and became the WBC middleweight world champion in 2011, before being defeated by Sergio Martinez in Chavez’s fourth title defense in 2012. Chavez Jr. went on to reclaim regional titles and later won the WBC Continental Americas Super Middleweight title and last fought in his hometown of Culiacan with a UD win over David Zegarra. In June 2021, Chavez squared off with MMA star Anderson Silva, suffering a narrow split decision defeat and now looks to set the record straight as he takes on another MMA star in Till.

“I’m excited to return to the ring after some time off, and I’m motivated and eager to reestablish myself as one of the greats,” said Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. “I was the first Mexican middleweight champion in the history of Mexico and want to prove that I can again become a champion. My return to the ring at this historic event is an honor. On Saturday, July 20, I’m going to win by KO and continue my journey.”

“I am confident that my son Julio is focused, and I’m excited about that,” said “El Gran Campeón Mexicano,” Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. “This is his moment to make a statement,  together on the same card with my friend Mike Tyson. I will be there by my son’s side when he wins. He has a lot of boxing left in him and he will prove it on July 20th!”

Facing down Chavez Jr. on Saturday, July 20 will be UK UFC legend Darren Till, who will make his professional boxing debut on the Paul vs. Tyson undercard. Till, the 31-year-old star from Liverpool, England turned pro in Muay Thai at just age 15 and went on to train across Brazil and the UK in MMA. From 2015-2022, Till was a standout in the UFC, collecting 18 wins inside the cage, with 10 coming by way of knockout and two by submission. Till fought in both the welterweight and middleweight divisions and challenged for the UFC Welterweight Championship in September 2018. In February 2023, Till requested release from the UFC to pursue his interest in boxing and now trains with UK boxing legend and former WBO light-middleweight title holder Liam Smith. He is managed by three-time super-middleweight world title contender Paul Smith. Till will make his professional boxing debut in a 190lb cruiserweight bout against Mexican star Chavez Jr.

“I’m very happy to be a part of this event. Paul vs. Tyson is going to be one of the biggest events of our generation, and to make my professional boxing debut on it is brilliant, said Darren Till. “I’m very happy with my opponent. I’ve been a fan of his father for many years and I’ve been a fan of Chavez Jr. too – he is a great fighter who I respect, but make no mistake about it, I am coming to knock him out in the first round. I am happy with where I am in life, and I am coming to make a statement on Saturday, July 20th in Texas.”

“Paul vs. Tyson and Taylor vs. Serrano will be epic bouts that captivate audiences worldwide, and we’ve worked diligently to create an unforgettable event that will leave fans on the edge of their seats. We’re thrilled to announce two additional fights that perfectly complement our main card,” said Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian, co-founders of Most Valuable Promotions. “H2O Sylve vs. ‘Kid Austin’ Floyd Schofield will be a battle showcasing the future stars of boxing. These two young stars are disrupting the sport of boxing by putting their undefeated records on the line against each other so early in their careers, to evolve the sport and set an example for other prospects. We are also excited to have Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. make his long-awaited return against UFC star Darren Till, in a Mexico vs. UK showdown. Chavez Jr. will be looking to silence the critics following his loss to Anderson Silva, while Till, training with UK boxing great Liam Smith, intends to show the world he’s a real threat inside the ring. The biggest event in modern boxing history just got bigger, and we can’t wait for fans to watch on Saturday, July 20 live, exclusively on Netflix from AT&T Stadium.”

Additional information, including further undercard bouts, will be announced at a later date.

ANDERSON SILVA BOXING VIDEO; ST-PIERRE, ROGAN, LIDDELL AND SONNEN QUOTES

Guadalajara, Mexico (May 21, 2021) – St-Pierre, Rogan, Liddell and Sonnen, a who’s who in the sport of mixed martial arts, today weighed in on the upcoming mega-matchup between world-class striker Anderson Silva and world-class boxer Julio Cesar Chavez, Junior Saturday, June 19th live on Pay-Per-View from Estadio Jalisco in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Chavez Jr. vs. Silva: “Tribute to the Kings” will be shown live on cable, satellite and digital Pay Per View starting at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT for a suggested retail price of only $39.99. Starting off the conversation is “The Iceman” Chuck Liddell, one of the greatest athletes ever to enter the Octagon, who said, “It’s tough to cross over from MMA or even kickboxing to boxing because of the differences in stance, distance and timing, but if anyone can do it, Anderson Silva can! I’ll pay to watch this fight.”

Said Georges “Rush” St-Pierre, “I wish Anderson good luck because he is the one who is stepping into Chavez Junior’s world. Let’s hope they enjoy their fight, and that the boxing fans embrace this event. And of course that no one gets hurt.”

Joe Rogan also commented on Chavez, Jr. vs. Silva saying to his guest and comedian Russell Peters in his recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, “He might not be as respected as some, but Julio Cesar Chavez, Junior is still a fucking beast. You cannot sleep on that guy. He is a dangerous man.”

Chael Sonnen, the former UFC fighter who fought Silva twice, took to his YouTube channel last week (https://youtu.be/BhRxzEpVUnI) to give fans a seven-minute breakdown of the 10-round boxing match that will occur between Chavez, Jr. and Silva on June 19th:

“This is a very different Anderson because he used to box and even if it was Muay Thai, even if it was standup fights… but he actually got in the ring and did this. It’s a significant difference than say what Conor McGregor did when he fought Floyd. It’s significantly different in that Conor had never done it before. He’d done something close, he had done a version of it – he had sparred a little bit. Anderson did all of that but also stepped in there and competed. … I’m happy to hear he’s done with MMA. I’m happy to hear that if he’s going to elect to go into this sport he is showing that sport the respect that it needs and that it requires to be successful which is full commitment and immersion.”

Silva is considered by many to be the greatest MMA fighter of all time. He compiled a record of 34 victories with 11 losses and 23 stunning knockouts. His boxing record is 13-1. Chavez, Jr., the son of the legendary boxer Julio Cesar Chavez, has a record of 52-5-1 with 34 knockouts.

“Tribute to The Kings” also features a special Exhibition bout that will see the great Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. make his final ring appearance against Hector Camacho Jr. Camacho will be honoring the legacy of his late Hall of Fame father.
