BOSTAN: I LOVE KNOCKING MY OPPONENTS OUT
Junaid Bostan is targeting a highlight reel knockout when he meets Bilal Fawaz for the vacant English Super-Welterweight Title at indigo at The O2 this Friday – shown live worldwide on DAZN. The Rotherham talent has stopped eight of his ten opponents to date since joining the professional ranks back in March 2022 and the 22-year-old southpaw is predicting another early finish against London’s Fawaz. “I know I possess the skills, the ability and the power to stop him,” said Bostan. “If that comes, happy days. I love knocking my opponents out. Clearly, after my last few performances, I’m getting into the highlight reel knockout stage. If you go looking for it, it won’t come. I’ll ping his head off for ten rounds if I have to. He’s there to be hit, is all I’m going to say. Let’s just see how his chin keeps up for ten rounds. We’ll see. “It’s his Cinderella moment. Bilal is 35 or 36. This is make or break for him. This is his moment in his mind. Unfortunately, his moment isn’t going to come with me. In order to get where I need to get, I need to stop another man getting to where he needs to get. Unfortunately for him, he’s in my way. “Bilal is experienced. I know he had a very good amateur background – over 90 fights. He’s a little awkward. Nothing I can’t deal with. He’s got a lot of things to worry about when it comes to me. I’ll let him deal with the worry.” ‘Star Boy’ has the opportunity to add a second belt to his collection, following his eighth-round knockout win over Jack Martin to claim the Commonwealth Silver Title in Liverpool last April, but the Steel City Gym fighter insists he is solely focused on his latest opponent – not the belt. “The English Title has some sentimental value but if I’m honest with you, I pay no mind to it. If you focus too much on the reward, you forget about the task at hand. For me, it’s just a fight against Bilal Fawaz. Once I’ve done a number on him, I can then reap the rewards and enjoy them. “Win. That’s all that matters. Win. I’ve got my man in front of me, and I’ve got to deal with him. I can reap the rewards after. Right now, I’m not thinking about the English Title. I’m thinking about dealing with my man and what I need to do in order to beat him. Just win, and everything else will guide me. “I feel like I’ve always had that mindset in place. I just feel when you’re young and naïve you want to jump the gun sometimes and you get overeager. I’ve got to take it one step at a time. Right now, it’s the English Title. After that, what will come will come. “The last 12 months had its ups and downs. Despite all of the ups and downs I performed very well under the lights. In my last two fights I got two stoppages. Both with the left hand, both stances. I’ve done my thing under the lights, but I feel like I’m maturing outside of the ring. I just need to keep on maintaining what I’m doing under the lights and everything else will pay off.” Bostan shares this Friday’s NXTGEN card with a former amateur opponent in George Liddard, who beat him on a split decision at the England Boxing National Youth Championships 2020 Finals, and a future match-up with the Billericay Middleweight excites him. Bostan vs. Fawaz is part of Matchroom’s first NXTGEN card of 2025, Billericay’s George Liddard (10-0, 6 KOs) meets Derrick Osaze (13-2, 3 KOs) for the Commonwealth Silver Middleweight Title, Brentwood Middleweight Jimmy Sains (8-0, 8 KOs) fights France’s Pierre Rosadini (6-6-3) over eight rounds, Aldershot Super-Featherweight Giorgio Visioli (5-0, 4 KOs) looks to kick the year off in style against Mexcio’s Francisco Javier Lucero (16-6-4, 12 KOs), Newham Middleweight Leli Buttigieg (6-0, 1 KO) squares off with Welshman James Todd (4-4-2) over six rounds, Cardiff Super-Middleweight Taylor Bevan (1-0, 1 KO) faces Poland’s Szymon Kajda (1-0-1, 1 KO) over six rounds in his second pro fight, Coinsdale Super-Lightweight Jesse Brandon (4-0, 1 KO) fights Estonia’s Semjon Kamanin (5-2, 3 KOs) over six rounds and Eltham Flyweight Maiseyrose Courtney (7-1) kicks off the Before The Bell action against Serbia’s Jasmina Nad (11-33-5, 4 KOs). |
‘STAR BOY’ BOSTAN HAS MORE THAN A FEELING HE’LL HEADLINE AT ROTHERHAM
Junaid Bostan says he has more than a feeling that he will bring the good times back to Rotherham as he sets his sights on becoming the town’s first British Champion in over a century.
The new Commonwealth Silver Champion was paraded on the pitch with his first title by his beloved football club Rotherham United on Saturday, a week after his stunning stoppage over Jack Martin in Liverpool.
But with Rotherham relegated to League One, Bostan (9-0, 7 KOs) believes his burgeoning boxing journey will give his hometown better days to look forward to ahead – with his ultimate dream of one day headlining at the club’s state-of-the-art 12,000-capacity stadium.
“It would be a dream to headline here at the New York Stadium,” said Bostan, speaking to Matchroom Boxing, after attending The Millers final home game of the season in which they celebrated a 5-2 win over Cardiff.
“Bringing a massive event to the area and fighting in a huge fight for a world title would mean absolutely everything to me.”
The Steel City Gym-trained Bostan lived up to his ’Star Boy’ moniker at last weekend’s NXT GEN show at the Exhibition Centre in Liverpool when he dispatched a gritty Jack Martin with an emphatic left uppercut to earn an eighth-round knockout victory.
At just 22, an English title shot is set to await the southpaw starlet in the near future – but Bostan is already looking at bigger things further ahead with the British Super-Welterweight Championship currently vacant.
“I have only been a professional for just gone two years and the trajectory I am moving at is very quick,” he said.
“I am in the top ten in the country (BoxRec rankings) and within that ten everyone is at least seven years older than me, so I am doing something right.
“Now I’ve landed my first title in winning the Commonwealth Silver, it would be a career goal of mine to go on and become the first British champion from Rotherham in over 100 years. I’m ready to face whoever is next.”

BOSTAN: MY INTENTIONS ARE TO GET THEM OUT OF THERE
Junaid Bostan will looking to make it six knockouts from six fights when he steps up against Midlands Area Champion Ryan Amos over eight rounds on the undercard of Dalton Smith’s British and Commonwealth Super-Lightweight Titles clash with Sam Maxwell this Saturday July 1 at the Utilita Arena Sheffield, shown live worldwide on DAZN (excluding Australia and New Zealand).
The 21-year-old southpaw from Rotherham has looked unstoppable so far in the professional ranks, ending all five of his contests inside the distance, earning him a reputation as one of the brightest 154lbs prospects in the UK, but the Grant Smith-trained talent faces the toughest test of his career this weekend.
Nottingham’s Amos, the reigning Midlands Area Champion at Super-Welterweight, is undefeated in 11 contests since turning over at the Harvey Hadden Sports Village back in October 2018. The 32-year-old from Clifton nicknamed ‘The Punisher’ is out to derail the Bostan hype train.
“He’s Midlands Area Champion, he’s undefeated, he’s rugged and tough,” Bostan said of his latest opponent. “I’m planning on making an easy night’s work of it. I’ve been brought up by good people and I’ve been around good people. I’ve got to keep myself level-headed because if I don’t then they’ll put me in my place.
“I also think religion plays a big part of it. You’ve got to stay humble. As far as you can go up, you can also come back down. If I started acting like a bit of a bellend then Grant will be on my case telling me to fix up. The boys in the gym will tell me to fix up. I think I’m mature enough. I keep myself in touch with things and make sure I’m doing the right things.”
Bostan will be fresh from a Nevada, USA training camp, which followed his chilling demolition of Peter Kramer at Nottingham Arena in February. It will be his second appearance on the big stage at Sheffield Arena, and the Yorkshireman will be looking to make another statement on home soil as he continues his climb up the domestic ladder.
“I’ve had the best of both worlds,” said Bostan. “My last few fights have gone to the later rounds, so I’ve kind of got the both of best worlds. If you mention to me that I’m going to chin the kid in the first round or you’re going to outpoint them, I’m going to pick the first round every single time.
“It is one of them, it is a catch 22. It’s not really up to me. If you put me in front of anyone, my intentions are, really, to get them out of there or at least win. Whatever will be will be. I trust myself, I prepare myself as if I’m doing an eight round fight all the way to the last bell, but if it goes that far it’s up to them. I definitely want it.
“I think the manner of how you go for it is what matters. People say they go headhunting, they go looking for it, searching and putting the one bomb in – that’s not me. I definitely want it, I do prioritise it but there’s a manner of how you get it; breaking them down, picking your shots, placing your shots, putting your shots together when they need to be put and then eventually they’ll get it. That’s how I’ve been doing it so far and that’s how I’m going to carry on doing it.”
Bostan vs. Amos is part of a big night of boxing Sheffield, Owls fanatic Dalton Smith (14-0, 10 KOs) attempts to win the British Super-Lightweight Title outright when he clashes with Liverpool’s Commonwealth Champion Sam Maxwell (17-1, 11 KOs) in the main event, Sunderland Super-Welterweight Pat McCormack (4-0, 3 KOs) takes on Welshman Tony Dixon (14-4, 4 KOs) for the WBA Continental Title, Leeds talent Hopey Price (10-0, 3 KOs) faces Bloxwich’s James Beech Jnr (15-4, 2 KOs) with the WBA Continental Title on the line, Hull’s Lewis Sylvester (11-0, 3 KOs) and Hartlepool’s Adam Cope (7-0, 1 KO) contest the vacant English Lightweight Title, Brazilian amateur star Beatriz Ferreria (2-0, 1 KO) meets Mexico’s Karla Ramos Zamora (10-9-1, 3 KOs) in an eight round Super-Featherweight contest, Mansfield Super-Bantamweight Nico Leivars (3-0-1) fights Madrid’s Alberto Motos (4-0) over six rounds and Yorkshire’s Cory O’Regan (9-0, 1 KO) takes on Jordan Ellison (14-47-3, 1 KO) in a six round Lightweight contest to kick off the evening’s action.
