**ELIJAH GARCIA VS. KEVIN NEWMAN II**

Headlining on Prime Video, 22-year-old rising star Elijah Garcia will make his debut at the full super middleweight limit as he takes on streaking battle-tested veteran Kevin Newman II, who enters this 10-round fight on a seven-bout winning streak.

Fighting out of Phoenix, Arizona, García (17-1, 13 KOs) most recently rose from the canvas to take home a split-decision against Terrell Gausha last March, getting back in the win column after coming up short on the cards against Kyrone Davis in June 2024. Garcia had previously burst onto the scene as a teenager by earning three impressive victories in 2023. He kicked off that memorable campaign in March with a knockout of the previously unbeaten Amilcar Vidal and followed that up with a pair of performances on the undercards of two of the biggest events of the year. He first defeated Kevin Salgado on the Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia pay-per-view in April before knocking out current super middleweight champion Armando Resendiz on the Canelo Alvarez vs. Jermell Charlo pay-per-view in September.

“I’m excited to headline on Prime Video on March 28,” said Garcia. “I’m working hard and can’t wait to show everything we’ve been working on in camp. This is a big opportunity to make a statement at super middleweight and I’m gonna make the most of it.”

Originally from Los Angeles and now fighting out of Las Vegas, Newman (18-3-1, 11 KOs) has put together seven consecutive victories dating back to 2021. This run includes two 2025 triumphs that saw him beat Alan Campa by unanimous decision last March before most recently defeating Malcolm Jones by seventh-round stoppage last July. The 34-year-old put together this run after a pair of close decision defeats to Genc Plllana and Manuel Gallegos. Newman’s first blemish came via a decision loss to Marcos Hernandez, which he later avenged in near shutout fashion. Newman turned pro in 2014, reeling off seven-straight wins after a split-draw in his pro debut.

“I want to thank everyone who made this opportunity possible,” said Newman. “I’m looking forward to getting into the ring on March 28 and showcasing my skills. I’m coming to put on a dominant performance from start to finish.”

**KAIPO GALLEGOS VS. JULIAN GONZALEZ**

At just 19-years-old, undefeated lightweight prospect Kaipo Gallegos will square off against a skilled 24-year-old contender in Julian Gonzalez for a 10-round battle as Gallegos looks to shine on a big stage and elevate his status as one of boxing’s top young prospects.

Fighting out of his native Las Vegas, Gallegos (11-0-1, 9 KOs) earned three victories in 2025, including a stoppage of the previously unbeaten Pedro Castaneda Castro in May. Most recently, Gallegos had a successful 2026 debut January, as he picked up a TKO victory over then-undefeated Wilson Akinocho. Stepping into the ring as a pro in Las Vegas for the fourth time on March 28, Gallegos has compiled his unbeaten record following a strong amateur career that included runs to the finals of the 2022 and 2021 U.S. National Championships.

“I’m very thankful for this opportunity to fight in my hometown,” said Gallegos. “This is a big fight for me, and I’m looking to make a statement and put on a great show for the fans and defend my home. I know I’m facing a good opponent who’s coming to take my undefeated record, but we’re more than ready for any challenge we have to overcome. My goal is to be world champion and Gonzalez isn’t gonna stop me.”

Born and raised in Reading, Pennsylvania, Gonzalez (16-1-1, 12 KOs) will step back into the ring after his first career defeat, which came via a split-decision against Jason Sanchez last June. The loss broke a 10-fight winning streak for Gonzalez dating back to the only other blemish on his record, a 2022 majority draw against Ivan Jimenez. Gonzalez will compete in Las Vegas for the first time as a pro when he enters the ring on March 28.

“I can’t wait for March 28,” said Gonzalez. “I feel like this is gonna be an exciting fight and a great night for me. I’ve adjusted some things that had to be adjusted and I think that’s going to play a major role against Gallegos. MGM Grand is one of the places that I always to fight at since I was young and I can’t wait to go there and put on a show.”

**BRAYAN GONZALEZ VS. BRANDON GUERRERO**

Another promising young prospect kicks off the action, as Brayan Gonzalez steps into the ring hoping to make a statement in a six-round featherweight matchup against Mexico’s Brandon Guerrero.

A stablemate of Interim WBC Middleweight Champion Jesus Ramos Jr., Gonzalez (4-0, 3 KOs) is unbeaten in four fights since turning pro in June 2024, in a fight that also took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. An accomplished amateur from Phoenix, Arizona, Gonzalez had two successful outings in 2025 with a pair of stoppage wins. Most recently he beat then undefeated Osiel Flores last May in round three.

The 26-year-old Guerrero (7-4) has faced undefeated opponents in five of his last six fights, including an upset decision victory over Kevin Ayala in March 2025. Representing his native Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico, Guerrero turned pro in January 2020 and scored victories in his first five outings. Most recently Guerrero challenged unbeaten Sachery Sam in December, dropping a six round decision.

Both fighters left no doubt they are ready for the next level. Following his explosive finish, Gallegos reflected on the performance that brought the hometown crowd to its feet. “This is exactly how I wanted to look,” said Gallegos on scoring a TKO with an electrifying performance as he spoke with confidence and hunger. “I felt sharp, calm, and in control from the opening bell. When I saw the opening, I jumped on it. I want fans to expect excitement every time I step in the ring.”

The young lightweight has long spoken about his ambition to reach the sport’s elite, and Saturday night felt like a step closer. “I dream big because I work big,” he continued about his dreams of becoming the next big star in the division. “I want to be a world champion, and I want to be a name fans remember. Nights like this are how that journey really starts.”

Gallegos also acknowledged the importance of the moment in the bigger picture on what this win did for his career. “This win gives me momentum and confidence. Being on a stage like this shows me I belong here. I’m ready for tougher challenges. I want to be back as soon as possible. The more I fight, the better I get. I’m healthy, motivated, and ready whenever my team says go.”

Not to be outdone, Ronny Alvarez delivered a relentless performance, wearing down Ferreira before forcing a sixth-round stoppage. “I stayed patient and trusted my training,” said Alvarez on scoring his TKO in dominant fashion. “Once I started breaking him down, I knew it was only a matter of time. I wanted to send a message, and I think I did that.”

The southpaw prospect believes his time is coming—and he’s determined to seize it. “I want to be one of the faces of my division,” continued Alvares on his dream of becoming a breakout star. “I’m young, hungry, and I’m learning every fight. This is just the beginning of what I plan to show. This win tells me I’m on the right path. Every fight is a step closer to where I want to be, and I’m grateful for these opportunities.”

With confidence high, Alvarez echoed his stablemate’s desire to stay active. “I want to get right back in there,” he concluded. “I feel great, and I want to keep building. The more eyes on me, the better.”

Their performances on Saturday were not accidents, they are the result of thoughtful development and commitment. I firmly believe both have the tools to become major stars in boxing.”

With statement-making performances under the bright lights of Las Vegas, Kaipo Gallegos and Ronny Alvarez proved they are more than just prospects—they are names to watch as boxing’s next wave continues to rise.

KAIPO GALLEGOS TRAINING CAMP NOTES

LAS VEGAS, NV (January 21, 2026) – Undefeated lightweight Kaipo Gallegos (10-0-1, 8 KOs) is locked in and ready to kick off 2026 as he prepares to face fellow unbeaten Wilson Akinocho (3-0) in a 6-round showdown on Saturday, January 24, at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas. The fight lands on the undercard of Raymond Muratalla vs. Andy Cruz for the vacant IBF lightweight world title, live globally on DAZN, in a blockbuster Matchroom Boxing event promoted by Eddie Hearn.

Fighting in his hometown of Las Vegas, Gallegos, who is co-promoted by Boxlab Promotions and Shuan Boxing, is eager to continue climbing the ranks as part of a focused 2026 campaign. Guided by his father and trainer, Jayson Gallegos, Kaipo says this training camp served as another valuable learning experience, further sharpening his skills and mindset as he continues his rise.

“There’s nothing like grinding with my dad in the gym. He knows how to push me past my limits,” said Gallegos. “Although a few opponents have changed, we’ve been locked in since my last fight. We’re chasing greatness together, and this fight is another step on that path.”

Despite Akinocho’s undefeated status and late notice, Gallegos remains laser-focused on the task at hand and confident in his preparation. “I respect anyone who gets in that ring, and Akinocho is a hungry fighter looking to make a name for himself, I’m not taking him lightly by any means,” continued Gallegos. “He’s confident, just like I was a few fights ago. But I’ve been tested. I’ve fought under pressure. He hasn’t felt what I’m going to bring to him. There are levels to this game.”

Gallegos knows that a dominant showing on a high-profile card could be the launchpad he needs to enter the title conversation. “I had a great year in 2025 and a win here, against an undefeated fighter, will kick start 2026 in the right direction,” he explained. “I’m not just trying to win…I’m trying to take over l. People are gonna see that I belong with the best, and I’m ready for the big names, big fights, and big moments. That mission continues Saturday night.”

Fighting in front of his Las Vegas supporters under the bright lights of DAZN is a moment Kaipo has been thinking of. “This is a great chance to show my fans what I’m about in person, fighting at home, in Vegas, on a world title card, and live on DAZN,” Gallegos concluded. “I’ve got my people in the building, my city behind me, and I’m going to give them a great performance. I’m not just showing up, I’m showing out.”

Boxlab Promotions President Amaury Piedra believes Gallegos is ready to make a strong run in 2026 and expects the lightweight standout to make a serious statement on January 24. “Kaipo has already proven he’s one of the brightest rising stars in the U.S.,” said Piedra. “He brings a rare combination of talent, power, and focus that you only see in future champions. With the hometown crowd behind him and the spotlight of a global DAZN audience, we expect Kaipo to deliver a stellar performance. He’s ready to seize this moment against another undefeated fighter.”

**FRANK MARTIN VS. RANCES BARTHELEMY**

After a strong run at 135-pounds that established himself as one of the slickest fighters in the sport, Frank “The Ghost” Martin will look to begin a run in the stacked super lightweight division as he faces Cuba’s former two-division world champion Rances Barthelemy in a 10-round attraction.

Prior to the Davis fight, the 30-year-old Martin (18-1, 12 KOs) had most recently shown that his power can last through a 12-round fight as he dropped the previously unbeaten Artem Harutyunyan in the final frame to clinch a unanimous decision victory in July 2023. His previous outing saw him stamp his status as one of the elite 135-pounders in the sport as he dropped and dominated the then-unbeaten Michel Rivera on his way to a unanimous decision in December 2022. Martin’s initial ascent at 135-pounds saw him begin by stopping then unbeaten Jerry Perez in April 2021 before dispatching of tough contenders Jackson Marinez, Romero Duno and Ryan Kielczweski.

“I’m excited to be back after people tried to bash me for taking one loss,” said Martin. “I took it as a lesson learned and I’m back mentally and physically at the top of my game. Rances is gonna have to deal with everything I went through, and he’s gonna feel it on every punch. I’m back and I’m pissed off and dangerous.”

A native of Havana, Cuba now fighting out of Las Vegas, Barthelemy (30-3-1, 15 KOs) steps back into action after dropping a decision to former unified champion Jose Carlos Ramirez in April 2024. His previous two outings saw him best contender Omar Juarez in May 2023 after a July 2022 defeat to Gary Antuanne Russell in which many believed the referee waived off the fight prematurely. A world champion at 130 and 135 pounds, Barthelemy owns notable victories over Argenis Mendez, Antonio DeMarco, Mickey Bey and Denis Shafikov. His only other professional loss came in a 2018 140-pound championship rematch against Kiryl Relikh. Barthelemy comes from a fighting family, as he is the middle brother between the younger Leduan and the older Yan, who won a gold medal at the 2004 Olympics.

“October 25 is the night I remind everyone who Rances Barthelemy is,” said Barthelemy. “Frank Martin is a talented fighter, but I’ve been in deep waters before, and experience counts when the lights are brightest. I’m coming with new hunger, sharper focus, and the fire of a man chasing one more world title run. Fans tuning in are going to see me determined to leave everything in the ring. I’m not here to survive, I’m here to dominate and make sure my name is back on everyone’s radar.”

**KAIPO GALLEGOS VS. NIKE THERAN**

At just 19-years-old, undefeated lightweight prospect Kaipo Gallegos will square off against a veteran power-puncher in Nike Theran for a 10-round battle as Gallegos looks to shine on a big stage and elevate his status as one of boxing’s top prospects.

Fighting out of his native Las Vegas, Gallegos (10-0-1, 8 KOs) has already earned three victories in 2025, including a stoppage of the previously unbeaten Pedro Castaneda Castro in May. Most recently, Gallegos earned a second-round TKO over Alberto Mercado on September 19. Stepping into the ring as a pro in Las Vegas for the third time on October 25, Gallegos has compiled his unbeaten record following a strong amateur career that included runs to the finals of the 2022 and 2021 U.S. National Championships.

“Fighting in my hometown of Las Vegas on October 25 — under those bright lights and in front of my people — that’s what I’ve been thinking about since this fight got signed,” said Gallegos. “Nike Theran is a tough opponent, and I’m taking this fight very seriously. This isn’t just another fight — it’s my moment to show the world who Kaipo Gallegos really is. Expect speed, power, and a little Vegas flair — because when that bell rings, I’m not leaving it to the judges. I’m here to put on a show and keep my undefeated record intact.”

The 28-year-old Theran enters the ring having won his last two outings with his last triumph coming via a June stoppage of Diomedez Ramirez. Representing the boxing-rich Barranquilla, Colombia, Theran was unbeaten in his first 18 pro fights dating back to 2016, including a second round TKO over Osvaldo Cabrera Santana that earned him a WBC Latino title. His only blemish came via a narrow decision loss as he traveled to Michael Magnesi’s home country of Italy before losing on the cards.

“I can’t wait to step into the ring on October 25,” said Theran. “I only have one thing on my mind, doing whatever it takes to get my hand raised. If he underestimates me, then I’m gonna be ready to take full advantage.”

**LUIS NUNEZ VS. HECTOR SOSA**

Looking to become the next Dominican world champion in boxing, Luis “The Twist” Nunez continues to up his competition as he takes on the upset-minded Argentine Hector Sosa in a 10-round super featherweight duel.

A rising contender at 130-pounds, Nunez (21-0, 14 KOs) can take another step closer to a world title with a victory on October 25. Originally from Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic and now being guided by top trainer Bob Santos in Las Vegas, Nunez kicked off his 2025 campaign in June as he dispatched of Daniel Ramirez in the fourth-round. The 25-year-old had previously shown his bona fides with an impressive run that saw him best four previously undefeated fighters in a stretch of five outings. He followed up that run in December 2024 by earning a dominant 10-round unanimous decision over veteran contender Leonardo Baez ahead of the Ramirez fight.

“I’m excited to be fighting a tough Argentinian at the MGM on a Sebastian Fundora undercard,” said Nunez. “It’s a blessing that this fight will be on Prime Video, because I’ve been working so hard with my trainer Bob Santos and I know that I’ll be ending the night in spectacular fashion. I’m going for fight of the night, so make sure you tune in early!”

The 29-year-old Sosa (18-3, 9 KOs) is no stranger to springing upsets on unsuspecting foes as he showed his power carry into the later rounds when he knocked out top U.K. fighter James Dickens in July 2023. Overall, Sosa has won four of his last five bouts, including most recently earning a unanimous decision over Liborio Solis in May. The Buenos Aires, Argentina native has previously fought stateside three times, including a 12-round decision over Keenan Carbajal in June 2024.

“I love to be the underdog because it makes it even sweeter when they announce me as the winner,” said Sosa. “I’ve been training hard and I’ll be ready to give Nunez everything he can handle. Don’t miss this fight, because I’m coming to show what Argentinian fighters are made of!”

Undefeated Lightweight Kaipo Gallegos…2025 Prospect of the Year?

LAS VEGAS, NV (September 24, 2025) – At just 19 years old, undefeated lightweight standout Kaipo Gallegos (10-0-1, 8 KOs) is quickly making noise as one of boxing’s brightest young stars. Co-promoted by Boxlab Promotions and Shuan Boxing, Gallegos has already achieved what many fighters don’t until much later in their careers, capturing the WBA Youth Continental and WBO Youth titles while building a reputation as one of the most exciting young fighters in the sport.

Gallegos has sharpened his craft in Las Vegas, where he’s shared the ring with elite names such as Shakur StevensonKeyshawn DavisMario BarriosRobeisy Ramírez, and Alberto Puello, gaining invaluable experience that has only fueled his rapid development.

After graduating to 8-round fights in just his third professional bout, Gallegos has continued to prove he belongs among the top young fighters in boxing. In 2025, he is currently 3-0 with 2 KOs, and with one more fight scheduled before the end of the year, he’s aiming to close out with a perfect 4-0 campaign, further solidifying his case for 2025 Prospect of the Year honors.

Amaury Piedra, President of Boxlab Promotions, believes Gallegos’ maturity, discipline, and fan-friendly style set him apart from his peers as he states, “Kaipo Gallegos is not just one of the best young fighters in our stable—he’s one of the best young fighters in the entire sport. At 19 years old, he’s already accomplished things most fighters don’t achieve until their mid-20s. What impresses me most is his willingness to take on challenges, his humility outside the ring, and his ability to shine under the lights. He has all the tools, power, skill, and composure, to become a world champion, and his trajectory is pointing straight toward superstardom.”

For Gallegos, the focus remains on improvement, excitement, and proving himself every time he steps into the ring. “I’m really proud of the progress I’ve made so far in my career, but I know I still have a lot to prove,” said Gallegos. “I want to be known as an exciting fighter, someone who never backs down from a challenge and always gives the fans something to remember. Every fight is a chance to grow, and I’m thankful for my team and everyone who believes in me. This is just the beginning, and I’m only getting better.”

At just 19 years old, Kaipo Gallegos is turning heads in the lightweight division with his talent, power, and fearless style. As he gets ready to finish 2025 with another big win, the message is clear—when it comes to Prospect of the Year, all roads lead to Kaipo.

Kevin Brown Victorious – Retains His WBA Continental North American Title

ORLANDO, FL (September 22, 2025) – This past Friday night, Boxlab Promotions, in association with Undisputed Promotions, delivered a thrilling evening of world-class boxing action at the luxurious Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida, with its stacked “Night of Champions” fight card. Broadcast live on BXNGTV, the event featured the return of Cuban sensation Kevin Brown, the continued upsurge of lightweight prospect Kaipo Gallegos, a devastating performance from Luis “King Kong” Ortiz, and a showcase of rising stars and seasoned warriors from across the globe.

In the 10-round main event, Kevin Brown (8-0, 3 KOs) of Las Vegas by way of Camagüey, Cuba, successfully defended his WBA Continental North American title, dominating Mexico’s Juan Meza Angulo (9-3, 6 KOs) with skillful footwork and precise combinations. Brown, who is co-promoted with Warriors Boxing, controlled the pace from the opening bell, landing clean power shots while deftly avoiding Angulo’s pressure. Angulo showed grit and heart, pushing forward through the fire, but Brown’s technical prowess proved too much. Judges scored the bout 100-90 (twice) and 99-91, all in favor of Brown, who remains undefeated.

In the co-main event, lightweight prospect Antraveous Ingram (12-0, 6 KOs) added another highlight to his résumé, stopping Jeremiah Robinson (8-7, 8 KOs) in round 2. Ingram dropped Robinson with a crushing overhand right in the first round, then followed up with a brutal barrage in the second, forcing the referee to step in at 1:42 of the round.

Heavyweight contender and former world title challenger Luis “King Kong” Ortiz (35-3, 29 KOs) reminded fans of his power, needing less than two minutes to dispatch Phillip Penson (8-5-3, 2 KOs) via first-round TKO. The bout was stopped at 1:53 after Ortiz landed a barrage of unanswered shots, marking a triumphant return to the ring.

Undefeated lightweight Kaipo Gallegos (10-0-1, 8 KOs) delivered a clinical body attack to stop veteran Alberto Mercado (17-9-1, 4 KOs). Gallegos dropped Mercado twice with vicious liver shots, and after two punishing rounds, Mercado’s corner wisely called a halt before the third round began.

“This was one of our best cards yet,” said Amaury Piedra, President of Boxlab Promotions. “Caribe Royale is the hottest boxing venue on the East Coast and continues to be the launchpad for tomorrow’s world champions and a stage for today’s stars. We saw warriors, rising contenders, and legends in one unforgettable night. From Kevin Brown’s masterclass to Luis Ortiz’s knockout return, fans got everything they came for—and more. ORLANDO, FL – September 17, 2025 – Rising lightweight star Kaipo Gallegos (9-0-1, 7 KOs) will put his unbeaten record on the line when he steps into the ring for an 8-round showdown against seasoned Puerto Rican veteran Alberto Mercado (17-8-1, 4 KOs) on Friday, September 19, 2025, at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida.

The bout is part of Boxlab Promotions’ signature “Night of Champions” series, a premier platform showcasing elite talent and future contenders. The event will be streamed live on BXNGTV, and tickets are available now at ticketmaster.com.

Gallegos, the 19-year-old southpaw from Las Vegas, NV, has been building strong momentum throughout 2025 and looks to notch his fourth victory of the year when he faces the battle-tested Mercado. Here is what Gallegos, who is co-promoted with Shuan Boxing, had to say about his matchup with Mercado, his recent training camp, staying busy, and more.

On his upcoming matchup, Gallegos emphasized the challenge that Mercado presents. “Alberto’s been in with some solid guys, and he’s got experience, so I know I have to be sharp. But I’m ready for whatever he brings. I respect him, but I plan to dominate. Every fight is a step forward—and I’m climbing fast with this matchup.”

Gallegos recently wrapped up training camp in Las Vegas under the guidance of his father and head coach, Jayson Gallegos. “Being in Vegas for this camp with my dad is always a blessing. We locked in and ready to go. No distractions—just focus, hard rounds, and growth. Training alongside world-class fighters out here has only added to my confidence. I’m feeling sharper than ever. This camp has been all business.”

In an era where activity is everything, Gallegos is grateful for the pace of his career. “A lot of young fighters sit on the shelf, but my promoters are keeping me moving and I’m super thankful. Fighting at least four times in a year…that’s old-school work and exactly what I wanted. It’s how I stay sharp, stay hungry, and keep getting better.”

With his eyes on the future, Gallegos knows what’s at stake on September 19. “A win over a veteran like Mercado puts me right where I need to be. It shows I’m not just some prospect—I’m a problem in this division. After this, I want bigger fights, tougher opponents, and maybe a title shot by 2026. A win here kicks open more doors.”

Amaury Piedra, President of Boxlab Promotions, expressed confidence in Gallegos’ potential and trajectory. “Kaipo’s growth has been impressive to watch—inside and outside the ring. He’s got the tools, the attitude, and the fan appeal to go a long way in this sport. If he takes care of business on September 19, the possibilities are endless. He’s earning every opportunity, and we’re proud to keep giving him the stage to shine. Kaipo’s a future star—no question.”

Undefeated Lightweight Kaipo Gallegos Prepares for Clash with Pedro Castaneda Castro on May 9 in Orlando

LAS VEGAS, NV (April 29, 2025) – Undefeated lightweight Kaipo Gallegos (8-0-1, 6 KOs), the current WBO Youth Champion, is deep in training for one of the biggest challenges of his young career. Gallegos will square off against fellow unbeaten foe, Pedro Castaneda Castro (8-0-1, 5 KOs) of Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, on Friday, May 9, at the MVP “Most Valuable Prospects 12” event, taking place at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida. All the action will be televised live on DAZN.

Co-promoted by Boxlab Promotions and Shuan Boxing, Gallegos has been putting in intense work at his home base in Las Vegas under the guidance of his father and head trainer, Jayson Gallegos.

As the fight date approaches, Kaipo shared insight into his focused training camp, his mindset heading into battle, and what a victory on May 9 would mean for his career.

On Training Camp in Las Vegas:

“This camp has been one of the best we’ve had. Training with my dad is always special. He knows me better than anyone else — not just as a fighter, but as a person. We’ve been drilling fundamentals, tightening up my defense, and adding new strategies to my offense. Every day in the gym, we push each other. The energy has been different this camp because we know what’s at stake. We’re fighting someone who’s undefeated just like me, and I’m preparing to show that I’m on a different level.”

On Facing Pedro Castaneda Castro:

“Castro is a good fighter — strong, tough, and confident, just like you would expect from a Mexican warrior who’s never tasted defeat. I respect what he brings to the table, but I believe my skills, my IQ, and my preparation are going to be the difference. He’s coming to win, and so am I. It’s going to be a war, but I plan on showing why I’m one of the best young lightweights in the world right now.”

On What a Win Means for His Career:

“Winning this fight is everything. This isn’t just about staying undefeated — it’s about making sending a message to the entire lightweight division. It’s about proving that I’m ready for bigger opportunities and bigger names. Beating someone like Castro, who’s a real threat, shows everyone that I’m serious. It’s a major step toward becoming a world ranked contender. After May 9, people are going to know the name Kaipo Gallegos on a different level in a positive way.”

“Kaipo Gallegos is one of the brightest young stars in the lightweight division,” said Amaury Piedra, President of Boxlab Promotions. “He’s got the full package — skills, power, intelligence, and the work ethic to match. This upcoming fight with Pedro Castaneda Castro is exactly the kind of test he needs at this stage of his career. Two undefeated fighters meeting at this point shows Kaipo’s mentality. He’s not looking for easy fights…he’s looking to challenge himself and rise to the occasion. We believe Kaipo has all the tools to become a world champion, and May 9 is going to be another major step on that journey.”

Gueche’s rise has been unstoppable since his pro debut in August 2023, which he won by KO in the first 33 seconds of the bout. Las Vegas’ Kaipo Gallegos Back Home on the Big Stage

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – It can be debated when Vegas became the boxing capital of the world. Of course, New York was once the city the boxing world revolved around, but when hotel-casino moguls needed something to pull patrons to the desert to visit their City of Lost Wages, big time boxing became one of the major drawing cards. By the time George Foreman exchanged knockdowns with Ron Lyle, before a national television audience, in the 1976 Fight of the Year, from the Sports Pavilion at Caesar’s Palace, big time boxing had found its new permanent home. Despite that fact, it took 37 years before Ishe Smith defeated Cornelius Bundrage for the IBF light middleweight title to become widely recognized as Las Vegas’ first homegrown world champion. Very few have followed in the years since, but one young rising star, in super featherweight Kaipo Gallegos, aims to make certain that drought does not last much longer.

The 18-year-old Gallegos (7-0-1, 6 KOs) returns to fight in his hometown for just the second time as a professional, taking on well-traveled veteran Leonardo Padilla (24-6-1, 17 KOs) of Petare, Venezuela in an eight-round bout this coming Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena on the undercard of the light heavyweight unification bout between David Benavidez and David Morrell. For the aspiring 130-pound wunderkind, it will be his second time fighting at the big arena in his hometown, a moment that is not lost on Gallegos.

“It feels good, because ever since I was a little kid, I wanted to fight in my hometown, in front of my family and just put on a good show for them,” says Gallegos.

Gallegos’ family is as deeply involved in the sweet science as a family can be. His father, Jayson, is his trainer and the long-time proprietor of the Las Vegas Fight Club, a gym that serves young school-age boxers-to-be, as well as professionals, such as Kaipo and his older brother Jayson, an undefeated 130-pound pro as well.

“It has been a long journey,” explains Kaipo’s father-trainer. “I was a really bad kid growing up, so I guess I am giving back. I give back to the kids that I work with everyday, almost 80 kids a day and adults. God put me in this situation to give back after all the bad I did.”

Whatever wrongs the elder Jayson may have had in his past, he has done many things right since, as evidenced by the success of his sons. Kaipo was one of the most decorated U.S. amateur boxers in recent years, claiming 18 national titles during his time in the unpaid ranks. All that success came with great sacrifices, as Kaipo followed his father’s instruction, giving up on many of the pleasures most of us enjoy during our youth.

“We’ve been doing this so long, ever since he was five,” says his father. “I’m also his nutritionist, I’m his trainer, I make sure he goes to sleep on time, I make sure he recovers on time. We’ve been doing this so long, I don’t even have to tell him. He does everything on his own. He knows what he needs to do. He’s a very disciplined kid.”

Gallegos was able to amass an incredibly full trophy collection, despite leaving the amateur game behind for the paid ranks at the ripe age of 16. With few exceptions, most commissions in the United States will not even license a fighter at that age. For Kaipo, who began fighting at the age of five, moving to the pros was just the next natural step in his progression.

“We have been doing this since I was little,” explains Kaipo. “Through the amateurs, where I became an 18-time national champion. Now, we just are going to take it on in the professionals and keep moving forward.”

With his long and successful amateur pedigree, Gallegos’ father and team did not take any baby steps out of the gate in the pros, despite his young chronological age.

“He started his career off in the Dominican Republic until he had four fights, but every fight was a hard fight, it wasn’t easy,” explains Jayson. “We never went to Mexico. We never took those easy fights. They haven’t given us anybody easy. His first fight, on the BoxRec rating, he had a star-and-a-half match rating. Even in the Dominican Republic, those guys he fought were hungry. It is not like going to Mexico and they fall down or take a knee so they can get paid. In the Dominican Republic, everybody over there is hungry and they want to kill you.”

Gallegos jumped into deep waters right away during his stretch of fights in the Dominican Republic. After scoring a fourth-round stoppage in his pro debut in April of 2023, Gallegos returned and jumped up to the six-round distance against a fighter in Misael Vazquez that was eleven years older and a veteran of 17 pro fights at the time. The hometown fighter was able to force a split decision draw, which represents the only thing resembling a blemish on Gallegos’ ledger to date. Failing to come away with the victory did not slow Gallegos’ career trajectory, as he immediately jumped up to the eight-round distance for his next outing.

“Ever since Kaipo was young, he’s had a pro style,” explains Jayson. “He takes his time and round-by-round he gets stronger, so having more rounds helps him. He had his first eight-rounder at 17, he won the WBO Youth title. He fought two eight-rounders last year and got them out of there early. He was ready for eight-rounders.”

In his last fight, this past November, Gallegos picked up a WBA Youth title against another durable and game opponent in Iron Alvarez, who managed to hang in there in stretches, but ultimately was stopped standing in the seventh round in Orlando, Florida.

“I felt like it was a tough fight,” says Kaipo. “He was a durable guy that was not just in there to lay down. So I feel like that was a good fight for me and a good step up in my career.”

On Saturday, Gallegos will take on Padilla before the early arrivers T-Mobile Arena, in what could be one of his last eight-round contests before moving up to the ten-round distance.

“I feel like I am going to put on a good performance this time because I fought recently, so I am ready,” explains the young fighter. “I expect a tough fight, but I feel that I have what it takes to beat him. I feel like I am going to break him down and bring him to the later rounds and get him out of there. I picked up some stuff [from watching footage,] but once we get into the ring, I will find out more about him.”

Having fought at T-Mobile Arena a little under a year ago, early in the night on the undercard of Sebastian Fundora’s bloody war with Tim Tszyu, should serve Gallegos well this coming Saturday. The 18-year-old fighter will know what to expect, but one thing his local following in attendance can expect is that the Gallegos family will make them proud.

“When we were in the amateurs, people would come up to us and ask us about being from Vegas and I would say, ‘Yes, born and raised.’ We were all so proud to be representing Las Vegas,” recalls Gallegos’ father. “My boxing gym is called Las Vegas Fight Club, so we represent that with pride. This is his hometown. Family, friends will all be there. We grew up representing Vegas for his whole life. Vegas is our home, both my sons were born and raised here.”

Those who decide to show up early for the marathon night of boxing this weekend could be treated to seeing the next step in the career of Las Vegas’ next homegrown world champion.

“Watch out for me and tune-in on February 1st at T-Mobile Arena,” says Kaipo. “And just be ready for me to put on a great performance.”

After turning pro at the end of 2019, Evans’ seven wins have each come by knockout. He fought to a draw with fellow prospect Steven Torres, and suffered his one loss by stoppage when the pair rematched on short notice in July 2023. Evans is trained by Andy Bell, the father of unbeaten Toledo featherweight “Prince” Albert Bell. Coming to the ring fresh off his latest second-round KO victory in March 2024, Evans will match Pero’s 6’5” size, looking to surprise the local Orlando favorite with a quick knockout on Most Valuable Prospects 7.
