Kendrick Ball, Jr. plans to make A major statement at home for 2024 platform escalation

QUINCY, Mass. (November 13, 2023) – Hometown favorite Kendrick “Peppa” Bell, Jr. (21-1-3, 12 KOs) will be fighting for his third title on Saturday night, December 9, as he takes on veteran Venezuelan fighter Heber Rondon (20-15,13 KOs) in an eight-round match for the vacant United States Boxing Federation (USBF) Light Heavyweight Championship.

“Pandemonium at the Palladium 2”, presented by Granite Chin Promotions (GCP), will be streamed live on BXNGTV.com from Worcester, Massachusetts.. GCP has also partnered with Project New Hope, a Worcester-based charity that supports veterans and their families.

Ball, 31, is coming off a dominant eight-round unanimous decision (80-72 X 3) over Oscar Riojas (28-16-3), headlining a show at Polar Park in Worcester. The Dec. 9th fight will be his sixth at the Palladium.

“I like the Palladium,” Ball said. “I’m comfortable there  because I’m right at home, only down the street from my house. I love fighting at home. It’s a great feeling to be in front of my city and every time I fight there, I feel more and more confident to say this is my city. I’ve put on a dominant performance every time I’ve fought there. and this will be my third title I’ve won in Worcester. I love fighting in front of my family and family, I still feel there are people in Worcester that haven’t seen me fight, so every time I fight here is definitely an opportunity for them to catch me and make them see why I say this is my city”

A former World Boxing Association (WBA) Fedelatin Super Welterweight Champion, Rondon is a southpaw who has been in tough with the likes of Fernando Vargas, Bek Nunmaganbet, Elvis Figueroa and Jose Armando Resendiz. Rondon is capable of upsetting his opponent. In 2020, Rondo won an 11-round unanimous decision in Venezuela against 14-0 Brahian Jose Medina for the aforementioned Fedelatin title.

“I know my opponent is a tough lefty,” Ball noted. “I fought a lefty in my last fight at Polar Park. Lefties are a little tricky, but I know how to adjust in fights and we’re going to work on fighting a lefty in training, so I’ll be ready.”

Ball is hoping an impressive win will open doors for him in terms of fights on a higher level outside of New England.

“This fight is for another belt,” Bell concluded, :but it’s not the main focus. It definitely helps get my ranking up and attracts people to see me fight even more. I’m hoping this fight will open big doors for me for my next fight. I want to get a big money fight. It’s time I get my shot at a money fight. I’m 21-1-3 with 12 knockouts. My only loss came in 2018. I haven’t lost since and that says a lot. I’ve been active in the ring, so I deserve a money fight. A lot of people don’t know but in most of these fights, I haven’t made big money, close to nothing. I still have a regular job to survive. I struggle like everyone else if not more sometimes because my goal is to get the big money fights. That’s what I’m hoping for in 2024.”

Another Worcester fighter, junior middleweight Khiary“Too Sharp” Gray (17-6, 13 KOs), who will be fighting for the first time in two years, faces veteran Jimmy “The Quiet Storm” Williams (18-13-2, 6 KOs) in a six-round match that could steal the show.

“Having Kendrick on the show was a no-brainer for me,” GCP president Chris Traietti commented. “The goal is to make this the biggest Granite Chin show to date and since the show is in Worcester, we had to put on some big names in Worcester. Kendrick and Khiary are on that list. The Palladium is going to be packed on December 10th and everybody there will get a chance to see Kendrick win his third professional title.”

The stacked “Pandemonium at the Palladium 2,” card also finds International Boxing Association (IBA) Americas Super Middleweight Champion Steve “The Savage” Sumpter (9-0, 7 KOs), of Pittsfield, MA., in action against an opponent to be determined.

Card subject to change. Additional fights and fighters will soon be announced.

Tickets are on sale and available for purchase online at www.ThePalladium.net.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. ET, first bout at 7 p.m. ET.

Kendrick Ball, Jr. hits it out of Ballpark as hometown headliner

WORCESTER, Mass. (August 6, 2023) – History was made last night at Polar Park, the home of the Boston Red Sox Triple-A affiliate Worcester Red Sox (WooSox), which hosted its first boxing event, “Punch-Out at Polar Park,” under the stars at its award-winning minor league ballpark.

The “Punch-Out at Polar Park” Pro Am card was presented by Shearns Boxing Promotions (SBP) in conjunction with Kendrick Ball’s Camp Get Right.

“It certainly took a lot of hard work from a lot of good people, including my partner (Kendrick Ball, Sr.) and my family,” SBP president Chuck Shearns said. “It was a historical event and I hope everybody had a good time.”

(L) – Kendrick Ball, Jr. pitched a shutout at the venue that he helped build as a union construction worker

Hometown hero Kendrick “Peppa” Ball, Jr. (21-1-3, 12 KOs) sent the fans home happy, pitching a shutout in the main event versus Oscar “Moustro” Riojas (28-17-3, 16 KOs), winning by scores of 80-72 three times.

Ball had in a workmanlike strategy, out-boxing his Mexican opponent, and then breaking him down in the final two rounds. Riojas proved to be a crafty southpaw with invaluable experience having fought world champion Carlos Gongara, Irish Olympian Joseph Ward, and top contender Diego Pacheco.

“Leading up to the fight, that (fighting at home in the first boxing event at Polar Park) wasn’t my focus,” Ball, Jr. commented after the fight. “Now, it means a lot to me for me to accomplish what I wanted to and have my fans watch. I made some new fans, too.

“My opponent was getting tired (in the last 2 rounds), He’s very tough, I couldn’t get him out. He’s a lefty and I kept stepping on his foot.”

Quintin Sumpter (L) and Sean Bey (R)

In the co-featured event, heavyweight “Don’t Play” Sean Bey (8-0, 7 KOs) kept his undefeated record intact, albeit under controversial scoring against Quintin Sumpter (6-2, 4 KOs). In the fourth round, Sumpter lulled Bey in and caught him with a left-right combination that decked Bey for the first time in his pro career. Bey was penalized a point in the fifth round for pushing Sumpter.

A cancer survivor, Bey had never fought more than two rounds and Sumpter was more than happy to take his opponent into deep water. When the decision was announced after eight rounds, Bey was awarded a majority decision, which drew a chorus of boos from the non-partisan fans.

Brockton lightweight “King” Kevin Walsh (10-0, 4 KOs) improved to 10-0 with a hard fought six-round unanimous decision victory over Philip Davis (3-6-2, 0 KOs), who fights out of Worcester. The pace picked up dramatically in the second half of the fight and at times it looked like each fighter was on the edge of registering a knockout. Neither fighter went down on the canvas, though, and their aggressiveness had fans roaring down the stretch.

Norton police officer Melanie “Pitbull” Costa (2-0, 1 KO, a North (MA) police officer, stole the show in the Fight of the Night with her scintillating, non-stop performance against Brazilian super bantamweight Kalindra Walkiria De Carvalho Faria (1-1, 0 KOs), a standout mixed martial arts fighter. The much shorter Costa, who was a four-time National Golden Gloves champion as an amateur, fought inside effectively from start to finish, throwing punches in bunches, much to the delight of the aroused crowd.

Junior middleweight Josniel “TG” Castro (10-1, 8 KOs), a promising prospect from Boca Raton (FL), bounced back convincingly from his first loss as a pro this past January, blasting out Jorge “Tomatito” Martin (13-12-1, KOs) with a powerful right hook early in the third round.

Worcester police officer Neal Sullivan (1-0-1) had the hometown fans on their collective feet with a brutal knockout of light heavyweight Michael Medeiros (0-5) at the 54-seconds mark of round two.

Pro-debuting junior welterweight Tevin “The Hitman” Regis stopped journeyman Joshua Zimmerman (0-11) midway through the opening round.

In the opening bout of the evening, James Maner (4-0, 3 KOs), 2019 New England Golden Gloves Champion, remained undefeated, defeated veteran cruiserweight Saul “The Spider” Almedia (1-18-4 (1 KO) by way of a dominant four-round unanimous decision, winning each round on all three judges’ scorecards for a shutout.

The pro card followed three amateur matches in the inaugural Carlos Garcia Tournament. Garcia, who is inducted in the National Golden Gloves Hall of Fame, was honored (see the picture below) during the event for his 40 years of service heading the boxing program at the Worcester Boys and Girls Club.

Kendrick “Peppa” Ball, Jr. headlining Card in baseball park he helped build

WORCESTER, Mass. (July 27, 2023) – As surreal as it must be for Worcester native Kendrick “Peppa” Ball, Jr. (20-1-3, 12 KOs), he will headline the first boxing event hosted at Polar Park – where he helped build the ballpark — on the August 4th (Aug. 5 rain date) “Punch-Out at Polar Park” Pro-Am card, presented by Shearns Boxing Promotions (SBP) in conjunction with Kenrick Ball’s Camp Get Right Boxing, in in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Back in 2020, Ball’s first union job was as a construction worker building Polar Park, the home of the Boston Red Sox Triple-A affiliate Worcester Red Sox (WooSox), voted as the best minor league baseball park in America. A share of the proceeds will be donated to local charities.

“When I first started working at Polar Park,” Ball, Jr. explained, “it was just a dirt field. I saw the blueprint and it looked cool, but I couldn’t imagine it would look like it does today. It’s so weird being there now. It brings back memories and I picture myself working there in different spots. Two years later, my dad (head trainer Kendrick Ball, Sr.) is promoting the first boxing show there with Chuck (Shearns). I’ve thrown out the (ceremonial) first pitch three times at Polar Park and now I’m headlining the first boxing show there. Life is weird sometimes.

“Some people had been talking about boxing there back then and I wanted to headline. I think I deserve it as the biggest ticket seller in Worcester. It really hasn’t hit me yet that I’m headlining the first outdoor show in Worcester boxing history and the first boxing ever at Polar Park. But my main focus has been on my opponent. I know it’s big. I hope people understand the magnitude of this historic boxing event.”

Ball takes on Oscar “Moustro” Riojas (28-16-3, 16 KOs), of Mexico, in the eight-round main event. Riojas has become a gatekeeper, of sorts, having fought the likes of Carlos Gongora, Joseph Ward, Diego Pacheco, Vladimir Shiskin, and Vyacheslav Shabranskyy, among the more notables.

“I know my opponent is a lefty and very tough,” Ball added. “Mexican fighters are known for their toughness. I’ve fought two lefties in the second half of my career. It’s going to be a real challenge for me.

“I’m hoping this fight will lead to a big payday. I think I deserve it; I have 20 wins as a pro. I haven’t had that big payday yet. This is what I love and why I’m chasing the big money. But I’m really only focused right now on winning and giving a good performance.”

The co-featured event has instant classic written all over it as “Don’t Play” Sean Bey (7-0, 7 KOs), fighting out of Stoughton (MA) by way of Providence, throws-down with Pittsfield (MA) heavyweight Quintin Sumpter (6-1, 4 KOs) in a potentially explosive eight-round bout. Bey is a cancer survivor who was a celebrated amateur: four-time New England Golden Gloves Champion, Northeast PAL Regional titlist, and Ringside World silver medalist. Sumpter was a football player who started in boxing relatively late, albeit quickly developing into a New England Golden Gloves (Novice) Champion.

Undefeated Brockton super featherweight “King” Kevin Walsh (9-0, 4 KOs) puts his untarnished pro record on the line against local favorite, Philp Davis (3-5-2, 0 KOs), in a six-rounder that promises fireworks.

Four-time National Golden Gloves Champion Melanie “Pitbull” Costa (1-0, 1 KO), a police officer in Norton (MA), meets Brazilian super bantamweight Kalinda Walkiria De Carvalho Faria (1-0) in a four-round match.

Puerto Rican welterweight Josniel “TG” Castro (9-1, 7 KOs), fighting out of Boca Raton (FL but with a strong New England fan-base, meets his Argentinian opponent, Jorge “Tomatito” Martin Garcia (13-11-1, 3 KOs), in a six-round bout.

Also fighting on the undercard, each in four-round fights, are pro-debuting Douglas (MA) welterweight Robert Degaetano vs. Michael “Titan” Taylor (1-5), Worcester police officer Neal Sullivan (0-0-1) vs. Brazilian welterweight Michael Medeiros (0-4), pro-debuting Dorchester (MA) lightweight Tevin “The Hitman” Regis vs. Joshua Zimmerman (0-10), and Johnson (RI) super middleweight James Maner (3-0, 2 KOs) vs. Framingham’s Saul “The Spider” Almeida (1-17-4, 1 KO).

The inaugural Carlos Garcia Tournament, showcasing amateur boxers from throughout New England, will precede the start of the pro card.

“Punch-Out at Polar Park” will be streamed live on www.bxngtv.com

Doors open at 5 p.m. ET with the first amateur match starting then (6 p.m. ET), the pro card starts at 7 p.m. ET.

Tickets are priced at $205.00 (Field VIP – rows 1-4, all padded seats), $155.00 (VIP), $75.00 (Home Plate Reserved – rows 5 and beyond, not padded seats) and $45.00 (Reserved), and available for purchase at Polar Park’s box office (508.500.8888), and online at www.polarpark.com/boxing.

KENDRICK BALL JR. VS ANGEL CAMACHO JR.

BOSTON, MA, May 18, 2022 – Fight announcement, Kendrick Ball Jr. vs Angel Camacho Jr.

Worcester’s own Kendrick Ball Jr. (18-1-2, 12 KOs), returns to his hometown on Friday, July 15th, 2022. He will face the undefeated Angel Camacho Jr. (16-0, 5 KOs) of Providence, RI, for the New England Super Middleweight Championship. The bout will headline Rivera Promotions Entertainment’s (RPE) “New England Future 10” boxing event at the Worcester Palladium.

This is the biggest local bout in the past several years and it’s a true New England Championship fight. You have two established fighters, one from Worcester, Massachusetts and the other from Providence, Rhode Island, that are willing to get in the ring to determine who the best in the region is. This fight is about representing their city and state. Three-time, 2-division World Champion, RPE Promoter Jose Antonio Rivera commented, “RPE is excited to have the two top Super Middleweights in New England fighting each other! This is what boxing is all about.”

Kendrick Ball Jr. has been able to stay active fighting five times since the Covid-19 shutdown. His most recent fight was a 5th round TKO victory in April 2022. He will be looking to keep his positive momentum going. This will be the sixth time that Ball enters the ring against an undefeated opponent and he is up for the challenge. Here’s what Kendrick Ball Jr. had to say about the fight, “I’ve been in this position before, it’s just another step for me to climb up the ladder and prove myself again to my fans and the world. I’m thankful for all of the support from Worcester. I’m glad to be back home fighting in front of my city. On July 15th, I’ll be ready for whatever comes my way.”

Angel Camacho Jr.’s last fight was at the Worcester Palladium in 2019. He is no stranger to lengthy layoffs as this will be his fourth time returning to the ring after a multiple year hiatus. Camacho, who is undefeated as a pro, has beat some of the biggest names in New England, including Richard Gingras, Paul Gonsalves, and the late Keith Kozlin. This is what Angel Camacho Jr. had to share about the fight, “I’m excited to be back fighting at the Worcester Palladium, I love my people out there. Life is crazy and I have a lot of responsibilities as a man so unfortunately it got in the way of my activity as a professional fighter, but my body is well oiled and fresh… I’ve always had nothing but love for the Ball family, I’ve rooted for Ken in and out of the ring, and he and his family are great people. Come July 15th this is going to be the biggest and toughest fight of Ken’s career. I know Ken will show up ready to go so expect a rough and tenacious war.”

Waymaker Management’s Founder, Artie DePinho stated, “When we signed Kendrick, he said he wanted to fight the top guys in New England to prove that he is the best. This is his opportunity to show everyone what I know he’s capable of doing. I have a lot of respect for Angel and have known him for over 15 years. He is undefeated for a reason and this is the type of challenge that Kendrick really wants. I’m looking forward to seeing the whole City of Worcester coming out and supporting Kendrick as he makes his statement.”

This matchup is a fight fans dream. RPE Matchmaker AJ Rivera said, “Kendrick has never asked for easy fights. He has taken on tough opposition fighting five undefeated guys, he’s no stranger to always trying to challenge and prove he belongs. Angel is a tough undefeated fighter who brings slick boxing skills to the ring. He’s fought some of New England’s best and won every fight. This fight is truly a New England treat.” You have two popular fighters who are daring to be great. The show will certainly be sold out and the atmosphere on fight night will be electric.

Closeout special: Reigning champ Ball Jr. looking to end 2021 with another title

Springfield, MA (November 10, 2021) – The reigning WBC USNBC Silver super middleweight champion is hoping to jumpstart his holiday shopping with another piece of hardware to add to the trophy case.

Kendrick Ball Jr. (17-1-1, 11 KOs) of Worcester, MA, the reigning title-holder at 168 pounds, returns to the ring Saturday, November 27 at the Mass Mutual Center to face Sacramento’s Mike Guy (12-7-1, 5 KOs) in a 10-round bout for the vacant WBC USNBC championship, headlining a stacked card promoted by CES Boxing.

The event comes two days after Thanksgiving and is an early holiday gift for New England fight fans who’ve once again grown accustomed to attending live events amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. The event also caps a busy 2021 for New England’s No. 1 attraction, CES Boxing, a year in which Ball has already won two title fights as he attempts to go 3-for-3 to close out the season.

Per usual, the WBC’s famed green and gold belt is up for grabs with Ball looking to become a two-time champion and join fellow Worcester natives Jamaine Ortiz and Irvin Gonzalez Jr. – the reigning Youth lightweight and featherweight champions, respectively – as CES fighters who currently WBC titles. The action begins 7 pm on November 27 and tickets are available online at CESFights.com.

In addition to the Ball-Guy headliner, iconic female featherweight Shelly Vincent (26-2, 1 KO) of New London, CT, makes her long-awaited return to the ring following a two-year layoff to face Chicago’s Shelly Barnett (5-5-2) in an eight-round special attraction, plus New Britain, CT, featherweight Nathan Martinez (7-1, 2 KOs) faces battle-tested Puerto Rican contender Jayron Santiago (7-8-1, 5 KOs) in a six-round bout.

For Ball, 2021 has featured several important milestones as he moves closer to his dream of contending for a world title. In April, he chopped down former world-title challenger Brian Vera to capture the USNBC Silver title, upending a veteran of 35 pro fights in a convincing unanimous-decision win.

August was arguably the biggest test of his career, his first defense of his title and a showdown against up-and-comer Tyi Edmonds, another unanimous-decision win in which the champ sealed the bout down the stretch courtesy of a late knockdown.

Up next is another stiff challenge, this time against the upset-minded Guy, a cagey, 40-year-old veteran who is well-known in boxing circles for pushing – and defeating – favored opponents and for a relentless attack in which each punch is thrown with bad intentions.

The combined record of Guy’s last seven opponents dating back to 2017 is a staggering 139-18, and that’s not even including his 2016 showdown with Ukrainian standout Sergiy Derevyanchenko. Like many undervalued road warriors, Guy’s resume is a who’s who of rising talent in the super middleweight division, except the difference is Guy has done more than just show up to earn a check. In what was arguably the best stretch in his pro career, the 5-foot-8 challenger defeated unbeaten Marco Delgado (5-0), Eric Moon (11-1), and Denis Douglin (22-6) in succession, earning him a spot amongst the most talked-about fighters in his weight class. He also went eight hard rounds in September with the super-talented Jesse Hart in Philadelphia.

Underestimating Guy would be a risky strategy for Ball, who continues to dedicate more time and energy to his craft than ever before. His eight-fight win streak, which dates back to 2018, has led to a surge in popularity, making the humble, soft-spoken 29-year-old a star in his hometown and a soon-to-be-recognized name among elite the 168-pounders.

That fight, which promises to pack plenty of intensity and drama, merely scratches the surface on what CES has planned for November 27.

Vincent’s comeback, which has been two years in the making, adds an additional layer of intrigue, and Martinez is once again stepping up the level of competition against Santiago, who has faced the likes of Jude Franklin and Dominique Francis over the course of his career.

Featherweight Joshua Orta (7-0, 3 KOs), born and raised in Springfield, returns to his hometown following a successful appearance in August to face Lester Brown Jr. (4-3-3, 1 KO) of the Bahamas in a six-round bout, and fellow Springfield native Isaiah Cruz (1-0), competing in the super featherweight division, takes on Kingstown, NY, native Darren Mima, a former MMA world-title challenger making his boxing debut, in a four-round bout. Also from Springfield, unbeaten super welterweight Jalen Renaud (6-0, 2 KOs) battles Jurmain McDonald (5-4, 2 KOs) of Jefferson City, MO.

Another intriguing bout is a six-round super lightweight showdown between southpaw Dashaun Johns (4-1, 3 KOs) of the Bronx and Pittsburgh’s Daniel Mitchell (5-4-1, 2 KOs), who returns to the ring for the first time in six years. Both fighters are making their CES debuts. Heavyweight Tim Hatfield of Providence, RI, fights as a professional for the first time in a four-round bout against Woburn, MA, heavyweight Rodrigo DaRocha (0-1), and female welterweight Stevie Jane Coleman (1-1) of Columbia, CT, looks to build off her first pro win when she battles Nevada’s LeAnn O’Malley (1-0) in a four-round bout.
