Kieran Molloy stares down with Kaisee Benjamin at Pearse Stadium, Galway

Galway’s Pearse Stadium played host to prospect and hometown hero Kieran Molloy today as he came face to face with former British welterweight champion Kaisee Benjamin, the man who intends to derail him when they clash for the WBA European Welterweight Championship in this stadium on Saturday, June 28th.

Kieran Molloy (11-0, 6 KO’s) WBA European Championship Challenger

“I’ve always wanted to bring big time boxing to Galway and I’m delighted to be fighting for my first belt at Pearse Stadium. There are so many people around here who have supported me since the very earliest amateur days and I am very proud to bring an event of this magnitude to their doorstep now.”

“I’ve got a live opponent in Kaisee Benjamin – he’s coming to win, he’s the former British champion and he wants to get back to the big-time by using me as a stepping-stone. This is my homecoming but he’s here to spoil the party and he’s got a new baby to provide a future for, so he’s going to be very dangerous. I think we’re going to put on a great fight on June 28th.”

Kaisee Benjamin (18-4-1, 6 KO’s) Former British Welterweight Champion:

“I’m looking forward to it. I’m looking to put on a good show, because I’ve got people like Kieran thinking that I’ve fallen off the top level and they can beat me. Well that isn’t the case, so I’m gonna come out and show everyone that on June 28th. I love fighting, I love putting on a show and I love entertaining fans. So, yeah, I can’t wait to go into the lion’s den.”

Izzy Asif, GBM Sports Promoter and CEO

“This is a huge fight for Kieran Molloy and for Kaisee Benjamin, as well as for the Irish boxing scene as a whole. Kieran is looking to win this European championship and cement his position as a world title contender, but Kaisee sees a chance here to get back into the contender picture himself, so this is really going to be a war. I think you’re going to see both boxers going all-out.”

“Winning this European title gives you the ranking and the stature to be included in the world title picture. Kieran is taking a big step up in opposition here, lot of pressure and he’s on home soil, but he’s ready to show everyone that he’s built for tests like these.”

“This event is historic. Pearse Stadium has never hosted a boxing event before so I said why not? Let’s do it outdoors in the summer, big homecoming for Kieran Molloy, the whole county behind him as well as boxing fans across Ireland. I’ve always said Irish fans are some of the most passionate boxing fans in the world. They know the sport, they know what a good fighter is. I think it’s going to be an amazing atmosphere.”

GBM: Molloy vs Benjamin takes place Saturday, June 28th at Pearse Stadium, Galway and features Brad Rea vs Shakan Pitters in the chief support bout as they contest the EBU Light-Heavyweight Championship.

December 10: Michael Conlan-Karim Guerfi Belfast Showdown to Stream Live and Exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+

(Nov. 7, 2022) — Featherweight contender Michael “Mick” Conlan looks to shine in his Belfast homecoming when he battles French veteran Karim Guerfi on Saturday, Dec. 10, at The SSE Arena.

Conlan-Guerfi and undercard bouts will stream live and exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+ starting at 1:15 p.m. ET/10:15 a.m. PT. The Belfast bonanza kicks off a fistic marathon on the ESPN family of networks. Conlan-Guerfi precedes “Heisman Night” from Madison Square Garden featuring the junior welterweight main event between former lightweight king Teofimo Lopez and former two-weight world champion Jose “Sniper” Pedraza.

Conlan (17-1, 8 KOs) returns for his second Belfast block party since his valiant challenge of WBA featherweight champion Leigh Wood in March. The two-time Irish Olympian was leading on the scorecards before being knocked out in the 12th round. In August, he returned to his winning ways with a one-sided decision over three-time world title challenger Miguel Marriaga at The SSE Arena. Guerfi (31-6, 9 KOs), from Manosque, France, is a former two-division European champion coming off a decision win over Mexican veteran Ricardo Mercado in July.

Undercard standouts include a trio of undefeated Top Rank-signed prospects: junior middleweight Kieran Molloy (3-0, 2 KOs) and featherweight Kurt Walker (4-0, 1 KO) will see action in six-rounders, while rising welterweight Paddy Donovan (9-0, 6 KOs) aims for his third victory of the year in an eight-rounder.

August 6: Top Rank Prospects Paddy Donovan, Kurt Walker and Kieran Molloy Added to Michael Conlan-Miguel Marriaga Belfast Bill LIVE on ESPN+

BELFAST (June 23, 2022) — Three of Top Rank’s brightest young talents  — welterweight Paddy “Real Deal” Donovan, featherweight Kurt Walker, and junior middleweight Kieran Molloy — will return Saturday, Aug. 6, on the Michael Conlan-Miguel Marriaga undercard at The SSE Arena in Belfast.

Donovan will appear in his first scheduled eight-rounder, while Walker and Molloy will see action in separate six-rounders. All three bouts will stream live and exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+. The ESPN+ stream is also scheduled to include Belfast native Padraig McCrory (13-0, 7 KOs) defending his WBC International Silver super middleweight belt in a 10-rounder versus former world title challenger Marco Antonio Periban (26-5-1, 17 KOs).

Promoted by Top Rank and Conlan Boxing, tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at Ticketmaster.co.uk.

Donovan (8-0, 6 KOs), from Limerick, Ireland, is trained and managed by former middleweight world champion Andy Lee. The stylish southpaw last fought on the Josh Taylor-Jack Catterall undercard in February, knocking out Miroslav Serban in six rounds. Donovan has been out of action rehabbing a hand injury.

Walker (2-0, 1 KO), from Lisburn, Northern Ireland, turned pro with a first-round knockout on the Taylor-Catterall card, a highly anticipated debut following an amateur run that included a gold medal at the 2019 European Games. He returned April 23 on the Tyson Fury-Dillian Whyte undercard at Wembley Stadium, where he won a four-round decision over Stefan Nicolae.

Molloy (1-0, 1 KO), a native of Galway, Ireland, also turned pro on the Taylor-Catterall bill and notched a second-round stoppage over Damian Esquisabel. He was scheduled to fight June 18 on the Artur Beterbiev-Joe Smith Jr. undercard, but his opponent tested positive for COVID-19 during fight week. Molloy signed a professional contract with Top Rank after winning an Irish national title last October.
