PHILADELPHIA, PA (April 17, 2024) – Boxing royalty will be in the house at the 2300 Arena tomorrow night when former undisputed Heavyweight World Champion Lennox Lewis attends DiBella Entertainment’s Broadway Boxing debut in Philadelphia.

Lewis will be in Philadelphia to cheer on his super welterweight protégé Kestna Davis (5-0), whom he advises. Davis will take on fellow undefeated Abdalla Nagy (1-0) in a four-round bout.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Davis moved to the U.S. in 2018. He has been mentored by the former world champion since they met in July 2016 through the Lennox Lewis League of Champions Foundation. Nagy, born in Egypt and now based out of Albuquerque, New Mexico, made his pro debut last December, earning a four-round unanimous decision against Kijonti Davis.

Junior featherweight Romuel “Cuco” Cruz (10-0-1, 4 KOs) will take on Robin Ellis (6-3, 5 KOs), of Las Vegas, Nevada, in a six-round bout.

Cruz, 30, was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, but moved to Philadelphia, PA, as a toddler. He began boxing as a teenager and has been under the tutelage of world championship trainer Stephen “Breadman” Edwards since his pro debut in December 2017. He is promoted by Hard Hitting Promotions.

Edwards will also be in the corner of six-foot-tall middleweight southpaw Erron “JYD” Peterson (5-0-1, 4 KOs). The 28-year-old Peterson will take on Raheem Davis (1-2), of Morgantown, West Virginia, in a four-round bout.

Peterson was an All-City linebacker in high school before turning his full attention to boxing at the age of 21. Following a brief-but-successful amateur campaign, Peterson, managed by his father Salah, turned pro in July 2022.

Heavyweight contender “Gentleman” George Arias (18-1, 7 KOs), of Bronx, New York, headlines Broadway Boxing facing the unbeaten Skylar Lacy (8-0-1, 6 KOs), of Indianapolis, Indiana, in an eight-round bout.

The 32-year-old Arias has already defeated seven previously unbeaten opponents, including world-ranked Cassius Chaney and Alante Green. Arias suffered his lone blemish at the hands of highly regarded Jared Anderson on April 8, 2023, in Newark, New Jersey.

Lacy, 29, fought to a spirited draw with former National amateur champion, six-foot-nine Antonio Mireles. In his last outing, Lacy stopped Hector Conrado in two rounds on March 16, in Mexico.

The card will also feature a high-powered heavyweight clash between Cleveland’s Roney Hines and Johnson City, Tennessee, native Robert Hall Jr., scheduled for eight rounds. The fight is a step-up for Hines (13-0-1, 8 KOs), who trains with veteran trainer Eric Brown in Los Angeles and is co-managed by Robert Diaz and Sheer Sports. He is coming off of a unanimous decision win against Jonathan Gruber last November. The 28-year-old Hines had an extensive amateur career that included over 90 fights and a win at the National Golden Gloves, before making his professional debut in July 2018. Hall Jr. (14-2, 11 KOs), a former WBC USNBC titlist, last entered the ring in September when he faced contender Jerry Forrest, losing a unanimous decision over eight rounds.

Las Vegas (April 9, 2024) – Hall of Famer, Boxing Legend and the last Undisputed Heavyweight World Champion Lennox Lewis has confirmed that he will appear at the Seventh Annual Box Fan Expo on Saturday May 4, 2024 at the Las Vegas Convention Center from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Expo will also coincide with the mega fight between Canelo Alvarez vs Jaime Munguia, that will take place later that evening at the T-Mobile Arena.

WHEN PUSHED ON which former boxer supplied the greatest influence on his style, Daniel Dubois had little hesitation in naming the most successful British heavyweight of all-time.

Lennox Lewis, a three-time world heavyweight champion, twice lineal champion and the last to be able to call himself the undisputed champion of the world was the name put forward by star in the making Dubois ahead of his bid to win the Commonwealth title at the Royal Albert Hall on Friday.

Dubois takes on the unbeaten, 19-0, Ebenezer Tetteh in the latest staging post on his route to the top of the division. Success on Friday will make it seven different title wins in just 13 fights.

Lewis called it a day in June 2003 with a record of 41-2-1 following victory over Vitali Klitschko in Los Angeles, with the future champion Klitschko stopped in the sixth due to a severe cut.

He has in the recent past spent time with Dubois, advising the now 22-year-old with a few punching pointers, which perhaps reveals why the current British champion likens his approach to the 1988 Olympic gold medallist.

“If I had to pick I would say maybe Lennox Lewis for his jab and all-round athletic ability,” considered Dubois, who added that his overall style is not based on a specific individual. “My game really is based on the bits and pieces I learned at my amateur clubs and where I am now.

“I am a solid, fundamental boxer. Basic boxing, but effective.”

Certainly effective, but Dubois doesn’t view himself as travelling along in the fast lane and insists his development will continue over the next 12 months.

“Still progressing because this is still an ongoing case. I am in no rush but I see myself climbing the ranks and adding a few more titles to my resume.”

Daniel Dubois headlines the bill when he meets Ghana’s Ebenezer Tetteh for the vacant Commonwealth heavyweight crown and WBO flyweight champion Nicola Adams defends her title for the first time against experienced Mexican Maria Salinas, live on BT Sport.

The card will also feature WBO European super-featherweight champion Archie Sharp who makes his second title defence against Dublin’s Declan Geraghty.

Middleweight banger Denzel Bentley, heavyweight Jonathan Palata, lightweight Mohammad Bilal Ali and precocious bantamweight talent Dennis McCann are also in action.

DANIEL DUBOIS RECKONS it is a shame that Lennox Lewis and Anthony Joshua are not able to settle their differences in the ring.

Former undisputed heavyweight king Lewis and ex-world champion Joshua have been sniping at each other across social media since the 2012 Olympic gold medallist was parted from his belts in a sensational fashion by the previously unheralded Andy Ruiz in New York back in June.

Lewis suggested Joshua examining the make-up of his team and should rematch the Mexican in his home country, while Joshua retorted by calling Lewis a clown and that they are cut from a different cloth.

Dubois, who will bid to win the Commonwealth heavyweight title at the Royal Albert Hall on September 27 when he takes on Ebenezer Tetteh, has had a number of dealings with the 1988 Olympic champion and acknowledges that it is unusual for a current boxer to engage in a war of words with a former one without the potential of a fight to hype.

“It is a shame they couldn’t have a punch up and settle it,” reasoned Dubois, who will be going for an incredible seventh title in just 13 professional fights against the unbeaten Ghanaian Tetteh. “It is just boxers with opinions and everyone has got their own opinion and ego.

“Listen, they are big grown men and they can say what they want. I don’t read too much into it, but it is good to go back and forth in boxing because it is an aggravating business and everyone has got the hump with someone.

“It is just back and forth and I don’t think it is anything serious really.”

What Dubois has no doubts about is Lewis’ place in the pantheon of great heavyweights across the ages. The young Londoner insists he belongs in the top bracket.

“I say he is a top-ten fighter and he has proven that by winning the world lineal title twice and beating everyone he has faced. So he has avenged his losses and came back to finish his career on a high, so he is definitely top ten.”

And the top British heavyweight?

“Yeah, you could argue that definitely, he is right up there.”

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (5 July 2019) On Friday 12th July, Billy Dib, the Two-Time World Champion from Sydney, Australia, front’s up to Bolton, England’s, Amir Khan at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and he’s already launching bouncers around ‘King Khan’s’ ears.

‘This is a one-off fight at welterweight for me and Amir Khan is absolutely the right guy for me to fight,’ states the 33 year old who can count on a 15 year and 52-fight pro career for experience.

‘Put it this way, you’d have to offer me a ridiculous amount, well into eight figures, to step into a ring with Manny Pacquiao. Your health is everything. But Amir Khan certainly isn’t Manny Pacquiao.

‘Look, Amir definitely WAS a great champion, a proven warrior who’s made his mark on the game. He could be a future Hall of Famer. In time, I hope the boxing world will fully appreciate his skillset.

‘But in the past few years there’s been a major decline, a lot of chinks have emerged. He’s no longer the fighter who schooled the likes of Devon Alexander and Marcos Maidana. Today, he’s fighting for different reasons….money!’

Like the Bolton wonder, ‘Billy the Kid’ commenced his career in the lighter categories -fighting eight world championship fights between 126-130lbs – and is effectively jumping up three weight categories to challenge Khan. No problem, he insists.

When I landed in Saudi at the end of June, I was already in great shape,’ claims Dib who enters after a spectacular first round knockout victory in late April and whose only loss in his last eight was an IBF World title tilt at Tevin Farmer last August.

‘For the first time in my boxing career, I’ve not needed to worry about my weight. I’ll be far stronger, more thickset and hopefully I’ll carry my speed up cos I’m quick, too. Everybody knows I’m a quality body puncher and I’ll be bringing even more strength and power. I’ll definitely test Khan. I really fancy my chances.’

A triple national amateur champion, bustling Billy represented Oz at the World Juniors and Seniors (Cuba 2002 and Thailand 2003 respectively) and has previously starred as a pro in Britain, the US (ten times), Macau, Japan and Thailand. However, this will be his debut in the region of his ancestry.

‘I’m super, super excited to finally fight in the Middle East. It’s always been a mystery to me why boxing has been so slow to take off in the area,’ he says.

And he’s galvanised to deliver a career best showing.

‘If I don’t bring my absolute A game, I’ll get exposed,’ he concedes.

‘Amir’s a super-fast starter and brings amazing hand speed but once my eye is gauged to that speed, I’ll sort out the game plan. Sometimes that speed works against Amir. The times he’s been kayoed, have been when he gets carried away and becomes reckless. I may not be a one punch ‘lights out’ fighter but I’ve certainly got the power to inflict damage.

‘I expect it to be a stylish fight rather than a war. Amir’s the naturally bigger man so I’ll need to box out of my skin, like I did in the amateurs. I win because I’m the more intelligent fighter. In past fights, I’ve proved I can be a mover, a boxer, a puncher. I can diversify.

‘The only way I win is to lay him out. I’m gonna ice him!’

FOX Sports PBC programming begins Wednesday, March 13 (5:00 PM ET) on FS1 and the FOX Sports app with the one-hour FOX SPORTS PBC PAY-PER-VIEW PRESS CONFERENCE: SPENCE JR. VS. TRAVIS REEVES will be motivated by his trainer Hasim Rahman’s shock win against Lennox Lewis when he faces Anthony Yarde.

Rahman caused one of boxing’s biggest ever upsets when he became IBF and WBC champion back in April 2000, knocking out Lewis in five rounds.

Reeves (17-3-2) will attempt to cause his own stunner when he challenges Yarde (17-0) for the Ilford man’s WBO intercontinental light-heavyweight title at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Friday March 8, live on BT Sport.

He believes Rahman’s stunning win and his tough Baltimore boxing roots will play their part when he faces Yarde in only the second professional boxing show at the famous venue in more than 20 years.

Reeves said: “Look at Hasim Rahman when he beat Lennox Lewis. Like him, I am coming to win.

“You look at the fighter who have come out of Baltimore like Gervonta Davis, Jarrett Hurd, Vincent Pettway and Hasim Rahman.

“We are just a different breed and we do not come to lay down. Win, lose or draw you are going to know we’re there.

“I can’t give you too much, but wait and see what I have got. It is definitely going to be an exciting fight.

“I am not coming over the start a circus when I meet Anthony at a press conference. I am coming over there to fight, and win.”

Besides having Rahman in his corner, Reeves is also trained by Vernon Mason who ironically fought John H Stracey at the Royal Albert Hall in 1974.

Reeves added: “I follow boxing and London has played a big part in the history of the sport. I can’t wait to put on a show for fans there.

Yarde’s WBO intercontinental light-heavyweight title defence against Reeves takes place at the Royal Albert Hall on Friday March 8, live on BT Sport. A media roundtable featured heavyweight greats Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis, Riddick Bowe, Gerry Cooney, Earnie Shavers, Buster Douglas and Michael Spinks as they broke down Saturday’s battle of unbeaten giants.

“I feel that Deontay Wilder will win because eventually he’ll land that right hand. He’s very patient. He’s a thinker, but he can also take chances. When people take chances, they win.

“Deontay might not have as much experience as we did in our day, but he’s got the power. That’s what the people want to see and I think they’re going to be happy when they see it.

“There was a point in time where every great heavyweight was from the United States. We had a very good amateur program. I was the last true heavyweight champion from the U.S. before Wilder and until I lost the decision against Lennox.

“To be the heavyweight champion of the world, and to say you’re the best, you have to fight any man.”

LENNOX LEWIS

“I think it’s going to be a great fight. Deontay Wilder has a terrific right hand and when it lands, not too many people can stand up to it. I also think that you can’t hurt what you can’t hit. Tyson Fury is not an easy person to hit. He has great ability and movement. I’m going with Deontay early or Fury late.

“We all know how it feels to lose the heavyweight championship. We know how hard it is to gain it back. Fury has lost it, and now he wants it back. I can see now that he’s sacrificing and saying to himself that he shouldn’t have lost it, and now he has to regain it.

“I think the view in the U.K. is that Tyson Fury is the man that stepped up. The gauntlet was thrown out there and he stood up for Britain. Deontay came to England to challenge Anthony Joshua, but it was Tyson Fury who answered the call.

“I would say that there are a couple of meccas in boxing that are places where everyone wants to fight. Las Vegas, New York and of course, Los Angeles. My fight against Vitali Klitschko at STAPLES Center was a great fight. My plan that night was not to box to go the distance, I boxed to go a short distance and it did.”

RIDDICK BOWE

“I’m going with Deontay Wilder tomorrow night. He’s going to put on a great show for everyone and get another knockout.

“Tyson Fury is skilled and tall, but to me, he doesn’t do enough on offense. He moves but he doesn’t move his hands enough.”

GERRY COONEY

“I think it’s a great fight tomorrow night. We know that Fury is coming back motivated. If Wilder finds a home for that right, he’s going to take Fury out. I think he’s going to connect at some point during the fight.

“I think Tyson Fury is a great man for how far he’s come back in his life and for standing up to Deontay Wilder. Fury called him out, so maybe he knows something we don’t know.

“I’m so glad to be up here. Look at all these great heavyweights and great guys. It’s special and they’re all here to watch this fight tomorrow night.”

EARNIE SHAVERS

“Me and Deontay are both from Alabama. I’ll be inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame soon and Deontay will be there one day as well. Deontay is a great puncher and I’m pulling for him tomorrow night.

“I fought in a great era. If you fight guys on the same level, you’ll get good fights. These guys today could get in there in our day and put on a good show.”

BUSTER DOUGLAS

“I think this is going to be a good competitive fight. If I had to pick, I’d take Deontay Wilder by knockout in the eighth round.

“I feel like Tyson Fury has already won by battling back and getting into great shape and being in this position. I’m sure many people thought they’d never see him back here. That’s a victory in itself.

“My victory over Mike Tyson changed my life in a great way. I was now the heavyweight champion of the world. My dream had come true. Seeing my two youngest kids being born was the only thing that could top it.”

“May the best man win. I don’t know who’s in the best of shape but I think Fury being out of the ring makes me lean toward Deontay Wilder. If Fury is as big in person as they say he is, he’s got a great chance.

Lewis avenged the only two losses of his career, stopping both Oliver McCall and Hasim Rahman after losing to them earlier.

Lewis was a classic boxer with a powerful punch. He’s probably best known for his 2002 win over Tyson, where he won every round before stopping him in the eighth round.

He held all, or a version of, the heavyweight title from 1993 until 1994 and then again from 1997 through the end of his career in 2003

The past year proved very busy for Rosie Perez as she returned to Broadway for the highly-successful Fish in the Dark with Larry David and was also co-hosting ABC’s Emmy Award-winning daytime talk show, The View.

Throughout her career, Perez has been a vocal activist for a number of causes and serves as the Artistic Board Chair for Urban Arts Partnership. A former journalist who has a rich history in radio, Bernstein has appeared in many movies and on television. His movie credits include, “Rocky V,” “Streets of Gold,” and “Play It to the Bone.” He has made two guest appearances on the HBO series “Arli$$,” and appeared in the Showtime movie “Paradise” and the HBO movie “Glory Days.”

In 1980, Bernstein wrote his first book, called “Boxing for Beginners,” an instructional/historical book on boxing. His most recent book is “30 Years, 30 Undeniable Truths about Boxing, Sports and TV,” a lighthearted, but enlightening look back at his 30 years in broadcasting

The Nevada Fighter of the Year announcement was made by NVBHOF Founder and CEO Rich Marotta, who recognized Mayweather for wins over Manny Pacquiao and Marcos Maidana. Mayweather scored a convincing win over Maidana in a Sept. 13, 2014, rematch at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. He followed that with a brilliant performance in a wide win over Manny Pacquiao on May 2, 2015, in a bout that set all sorts of financial records.

London (30 November) TYSON Fury says he will send out a clear message to the world that he is the future of the heavyweight division when he defeats American Kevin Johnson in their WBC World heavyweight title eliminator.

Fury and Johnson meet at Belfast’s Odyssey Arena tomorrow night in the Hennessy Sports show which is live on Channel 5 and also features unbeaten middleweight prospect Chris Eubank jnr.

“I’m the best heavyweight since Lennox Lewis and after this fight I want Vitali Klitschko or Wladmir Kliktschko. This man is getting smashed to bits,” said undefeated Fury.

“Forget about David Haye and David Price, they’re not in my league and after I beat Johnson there’s no American left who could take on the Klitschkos so that just leaves me.

“People haven’t seen the best of me. I’m still only 24 but on Saturday night in Belfast you will see just how much I have improved and people won’t believe the shape I’m in. I could have a 20-round war if I had to.

“I can fight, I can box, I do anything in the ring, nobody can live with me and that includes the Klitschkos.

“This is now my era, I’m taking over and Johnson is not going to stand in my way. I know that he will be awkward, he’s a bit like the Floyd Mayweather of the heavyweight division because he can be defensive but he can punch as well so I have set him the traps and punish him.”

Promoter Mick Hennessy is confident that Fury will face one of the Klitschkos after having talks with their management.

“I have spoken to Vitali’s people and they are very open to doing a fight with Tyson but there is also the option of fighting Wladimir and Tyson is up for fighting any of the brothers,” commented Hennessy.

“As long as they realise that Tyson is the only credible heavyweight out there to make a super fight with and they are fair at the business table then the fight will happen in 2013, either one of the brothers.

“It needs to be a stadium fight so we’ll be looking at sometime between May and July. We know as a team that it would sell out a stadium. They would prefer to work with us and do the Tyson fight than work with any other contender.”
