OPEN LETTER FROM LUIS ‘KOREANO’ TORRES TO THE WORLD CUP BOXING SERIES

My name is Luis Torres.

They call me “Koreano.” I am using this letter to officially let my former promoters, Terry Hollan and Guy Taylor of the World Cup Boxing Series, know that due to your many violations of our contract, and violations of the Muhammad Ali Act, my manager, Emanuel Romo, and I have hired the services of San Antonio attorney Michael Miller to terminate my promotional contract with you immediately.

Also know that I fully intend to proceed with my 10-round fight against Claudio Gabriel Daneff for the WBC Continental Americas Lightweight Championship on October 21 at the Club Atletico Stockolmo in Montevideo, Uruguay.

May I remind you both:

You said I was scheduled for a July 7 fight against Fradimil Macayo, but then two weeks before the fight, you told my team the fight had been canceled. We later learned the fight was never scheduled and you were not being honest.

Next you offered me an August 12 fight against Raymond Muratalla. You said it was going to be in the co-feature of the Oscar Valdez vs Emmanuel Navarrete show in Phoenix. But then, even though it was broadcast nationally by ESPN and held in front of a live audience of more than 15 thousand people, you offered to pay me $20,000 for the fight. My team talked to Top Rank and their offer was $75,000 – they confirmed it in writing. You’re my promoters and you intended to keep $55,000.00 of my money? You both know my contract clearly stipulates your share should never be greater than 20% for any fight.

Then next you offered me a televised main event against Angel Fierro on September 15, for a pitiful $15,000. I assume you were trying to keep a big part of that purse as well?

And then when I told you I was tired of being lied to and was going to continue my career against Daneff in October in Uruguay, you tried to block the fight by claiming you had a fight locked in for me against Ryan Garcia for the end of November. We talked to Golden Boy. You lied again.

I would also like to let everyone know that your World Cup Boxing Series approaches and signs Mexican fighters while posing as American promoters, but you have never held a promoter’s license in the State of Texas or any other.

This is my only comment to you on this matter. Send me an immediate release from my contract or I’ll see you in court and they can sever it for me.

Sincerely,

Luis “Koreano” Torres

OBREGON, Sonora, México (June 3, 2022) – Undefeated Luis “Koreano” Torres (16-0, 10 KOs) won the inaugural “World Cup Boxing Series (WCBS) 4-Man Lightweight Tournament” championship final in last night’s RJJ Boxing on UFC FIGHT PASS ® main event, as well as capture the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Latino lightweight title, at Palenque de la Expo in Obregón Sonora, México.

All the action – presented by Roy Jones Jr. (RJJ) Boxing Promotions, De La O Promotions and WCBS — was streamed live and exclusively on UFC FIGHT PASS®, the world’s leading digital subscription service for combat sports. To sign up for UFC FIGHT PASS, please visit www.ufcfightpass.com.

The 20-year-old Torres, who fought in his hometown, was in his eighth RJJ Boxing on UFC FIGHT PASS show. In an entertaining match, pre-tournament favorite Torres arguably faced the toughest opponent of his young career to date in Andrade, who defeated 29-1-2 Jorge Lara by 8-round split decision in 2020. Andrade also went the complete 10-round distance last year with both present World Boxing Organization (WBO) No. 1 junior lightweight contender Archie Sharp and 17-0 Bryan Acosta

Torres (R) rocked Andrade

Torres took early control, winning the first seven rounds on one of the judges’ scorecards, 6 of 7 on another, and he cruised to victory from there. The former WBC Youth Silver lightweight champion is clearly a fighter to watch as he prepares to break into the world rankings and possibly challenge one of the top guys in the absolutely loaded 135-pound division in the not-too-distant future.

In the co-featured event, Bryan “Zama” Zamarripa (11-1, 3 KOs) edged previously unbeaten Yair Marmolejo Rojas (7-1-2, 5 KOs) by way of an 8-round majority decision in an evenly matched bout.

The development of 19-year-old undefeated lightweight Marco Cota Moreno (7-0, 5 KOs) continues to be impressive. Moreno, who was a decorated amateur boxer, stopped Juan Leonel “La Vitola” Ortega Resendez (4-3-1, 2 KOs) in the third round. Hot prospect Moreno had a 146-4 amateur record, including 5 Sonora State Championships. Sonora is a hotbed of Mexican boxing having produced the likes of Julio Cesar Chavez and so many other greats. Moreno may be the next great fighter from Sonora.

In the RJJ Boxing on UFC FIGHT PASS opener, Pedro Penunuri Borgaro (3-0, 1 KO) floored Hector Avila Lozano (1-1, 1 KO) in the first round, which proved to be the difference as Borgaro won a 4-round unanimous decision by scores of 39-36, 38-37 twice.

Luis “Koreano” Torres expecting tough fight vs. Irving Castillo in WCBS lightweight tournament final

LAS VEGAS (April 7, 2022) – “WCBS 4-Man Lightweight Tournament” favorite and hometown hero, Luis “Koreano” Torres (15-0, 10 KOs), is preparing for a very tough fight with Irving “Poderoso” Castillo (12-2, 8 KOs) in the June 2nd championship final for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Latino Lightweight Championship.

The 10-round main event championship final of the inaugural “WCBS 4-Man Lightweight Tournament,” presented by Roy Jones Jr. Boxing Promotions (RJJ Boxing), will headline the June 2nd installment of RJJ Boxing on UFC FIGHT PASS®.

All the action will be streamed live and exclusively from Palenque de la Expo in Obregón, Sonora, Mexico, on UFC FIGHT PASS®, the world’s leading digital subscription service for combat sports, starting at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT. To sign-up for UFC FIGHT PASS, please visit www.ufcfightpass.com.

Torres knocked out Rodolfo “Rudy” Flores (14-6, 6 KOs) in round four this past February at the same venue, after dropping him in the second and third rounds.

“It was a tough fight versus Flores, “the 20-year-old Torres said. “I knew I had to knock him out, so I just focused on the knockout and put technique aside. I wanted to give my fans a knockout and I got it.

“My upcoming fight will be different, more strategic. We need more boxing resources because he is a tall fighter who likes to control his distance, throwing long punches and side stepping very well. It will be a very difficult fight than the one I had with Flores.”

Torres vs. Castillo will be contested in a 10-round match and, if needed, an “overtime” round will be held to declare a winner in the event of a draw upon the conclusion of the scheduled distance. The tournament is sanctioned by the World Boxing Council (WBC). The winner will become the new WBC Latino Lightweight Champion, as well as receive a world rating from the WBC.

World Cup Boxing Series Signs undefeated Mexican lightweight prospect Luis “Koreano” Torres

SOUTH LAKE, Tex. (October 19, 2021) — World Cup Boxing Series (WCBS), co-founded by CEO Terry Hollan and matchmaker Guy Taylor, announced today that WCBS has signed undefeated Mexican lightweight prospect Luis “Koreano” Torres (15-0, 11 KOs) to a long term, multi-year promotional contract.

The 19-year-old Torres, the reigning WBC Youth Lightweight World Champion, is a rising star in his native Mexico having defeated quality opponents such as Orlando Zepeda (9-2), Juan Marco Rodriguez (10-4), Gregorio Soto (11-1), Jose Luis Vasquez (12-2), Jose Paez (15-2), and Diego Fabian Eligio (20-5).

“He (Torres) is a real contender,” WCBS CEO Terry Hollan commented, “and the boxing world will see that very soon. I am truly honored to have World Cup Boxing Series be part of the exciting future of Luis Torres.”

“Luis Torres is an absolute pleasure to work with,” WCBS creator/matchmaker Guy Taylor added. “From the first time I saw him fight, I knew this young man was special. At only 19 years old, Torres is proving to be one of the faces to watch in the future.

“Torres only wants marquee match ups in 2022. He’s mentioned the likes of WBC Latino Lightweight Champion Alberto Ruiz and WBO Latino Lightweight Champion Jesus Saracho. World Cup Boxing Series is ready, willing, and able to work with anyone to make these competitive and compelling fights happen. How about a 4-Man Lightweight Tournament featuring four of the best young Mexican contenders? This is something Terry Hollan is actively pursing with the WBC for the beginning of 2022.”

Torres, who had a 23-1 (22 KOs) amateur record, turned pro at the age of 16. He grew up in one of the roughest neighborhoods, Colonia Cajeme, in Obregon, Sonora.

“I am very happy to be working with World Cup Boxing Series,” No. 6 WBO Latino rated Torres said. “WCBS will provide me with the support I need to progress in my career, especially when I fight in the United States, where all the big lightweight fights are held.”

Torres is co-promoted in Mexico with De La O Promotions, which is led by Emmanuel Romo, who remarked: “Luis Torres is the best prospect in Mexico right now. He has everything a promoter wants in a fighter: southpaw stance, skills, chin, and defense. There is no other 19-year-old in boxing right now that has faced the kind of opponents Torres has at this stage of their careers.”

Hot prospects Santiago Dominguez, Luis Torres & Jermone Jones, Jr. all remain undefeated

SAN CARLOS, Sonora, Mexico (August 26, 2020) -The first RJJ Boxing on UFC FIGHT PASS® event in 6 ½ months was held last night, showcasing a trio of undefeated prospects, at Marinaterra Hotel & Spa in San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico.

Luis “Koreano” Torres, World Boxing Council (WBC) No. 15 rated welterweight Santiago “Somer” Dominguez and Jermone Jones, Jr. all remained undefeated.

RJJ Boxing became the first promotion to stream a complete boxing card live from Mexico on UFC FIGHT PASS®, the world’s leading digital subscription service for combat sports. To sign up for UFC FIGHT PASS, please visit www.ufcfightpass.com, or download the UFC app.

“It is a great privilege to be working with Emmanuel Romo from De La O Promotions,” RJJ Boxing CEO/Co-Founder Keith Veltre said. “Having fights in Mexico is extremely political and having a great partner makes things run a lot smoother. Adapting to the current situation is key to being successful and having fights in Mexico is where we need to be right now to make shows successful. I want to thank Terry Holland and the Mexican Boxing Commission for working with us and making RJJ Boxing feel so welcomed.”

In the main event, Torres improved to 10-0 (8 KOs) with a convincing win by 10-round unanimous decision over Jose Luis Vazquez (10-2, 3 KOs) for the vacant WBC Youth Silver lightweight championship. Torres, whose nickname is for his Asian features, had never fought more than four rounds during his young pro career.

Dominguez (22-0, 17 KOs) dropped late replacement and fellow Mexican knockout artist, Jadalberto “Terrible” Borquez (30-20-1, 27 KOs), three times in the first round of their title fight for the WBC FECARBOX and WBC United States welterweight crowns. Borquez, a former WBC Continental Americas featherweight champion, was blasted out by rising star Dominguez in the opening round.

The top world-rated Mexican welterweight in the world, Dominguez has now stopped nine of his last 10 opponents, as he ascends the rankings with each fight. He won the vacant FECARBOX title and retained his WBC U.S. crown.

The 25-year-old Jones (6-0, 6 KOs), the only non-Mexican fighter on the card, kept his perfect pro record intact, winning all six of his fights by stoppage, with a 4th-round knockout of Mario “Cachalote” Israel Vera (6-2, 0 KOs).
